Yesterday's outage
We were down for a few hours yesterday because of an outage at our hosting company. They had a power supply failure and we happened to be in the bank of machines affected. That's the first major failure I can remember with them and I've been with them for going on twenty years, so I don't expect another one soon.

Afghanistan
IS Fighters Kill Six Afghan Police
[An Nahar] Islamic State

fighters stormed a police base in eastern Afghanistan Saturday, killing at least six officials in a pre-dawn attack, months after the government claimed to have defeated the group.

The attack in Haska Mina district in Nangarhar
The unfortunate Afghan province located adjacent to Mohmand, Kurram, and Khyber Agencies. The capital is Jalalabad. The province was the fief of Younus Khalis after the Soviets departed and one of his sons is the current provincial Taliban commander. Nangarhar is Haqqani country..
, bordering Pakistain, comes a day after three worshippers were killed and 70 others maimed in a bombing inside a mosque during Friday prayers in the restive province.

"The district police chief Shah Mahmood was martyred along with five other coppers" in Saturday's attack, Ataullah Khogyani, front man for Nangarhar's governor told Agence La Belle France Presse.

"Eleven ISIS fighters were also killed and seven others were maimed," he added, using the Arabic acronym for the group.

IS fighters are making inroads into Afghanistan, winning over sympathisers, recruiting followers and challenging the Taliban on their own turf, primarily in the country's east.

But in March Afghanistan's Caped President Ashraf Ghani
...former chancellor of Kabul University, now president of Afghanistan. Before returning to Afghanistan in 2002 he was a scholar of political science and anthropology. He worked at the World Bank working on international development assistance. As Finance Minister of Afghanistan between July 2002 and December 2004, he led Afghanistan's attempted economic recovery until the Karzais stole all the money. ..
announced that the Islamists had been defeated after local security forces claimed victory in a months-long operation against the group.

The group also intermittently airs propaganda through a mobile radio station, which the government claimed to have destroyed in an air strike in February.

Militant strikes have recently increased in Nangarhar. Those killed during Friday prayers in Nangarhar's Rodat district included the prayer leader and a child, officials said.

Africa North
IS retreats into Sirte centre, reported cut off
Tripoli, 11 June 2016:

An IS counterattack on Sirte port which the terrorists lost to Bunyan Marsous forces last night, was beaten off at noon today. IS are now encircled in the town though it is unclear if the cordon of Misratan-led forces is so tight that no IS people could slip away.

Along with the fall of the port, which is to the east of Sirte, a suburb nearby was also taken. The terrorists also lost a base in which Al Jazeera reported Nigerian Boko Haram fighters had been staying.

A local commander, Mohamed Al Hassan warned the network, as he stood in front of IS banners outside the camp gate, that IS had been weakened but they were not yet beaten.

In the course of the day warplanes from Misrata carried out six bombing raids on IS positions in the centre of the town. Artillery salvoes were also unleashed. The main target appears to be the Ouagadougou centre which has been used by IS as their main headquarters.

One symbolic location to the west of the town that has been overrun by Misratan forces was the Jafran roundabout in the centre of which IS used to hang out the orange jump-suited corpses of their murdered victims. Photos taken by advancing fighters of the grim framework on which the dead were tied in a cruciform position were posted today on social media. A later report said the framework had been torn down.

The key terrorist tactic that had challenged the Bunyan Marsous advance has been a combination of vehicle bombs and booby traps. An SVBIED (Suicide Vehicle-Borne Improvised Explosive Device) was launched at attackers yesterday but sources say that the IS fighters have not left behind the expected array of devices. This may be because they were overrun before they could rig them and perhaps because they are running short of explosives and armoured vehicles on which to launch them toward their attackers.

Seven civilians killed by shelling in Benghazi: hospital official
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] At least seven civilians have been killed and eight maimed by shelling in the eastern Libyan city of Benghazi, a hospital official said on Saturday.

He said the shelling had taken place on Thursday and Friday in residential areas close the frontlines in Benghazi, which has seen heavy fighting in some neighborhoods over the past two years.

Forces loyal to military commander Khalifa Haftar
... served in the Libyan army under Muammar Qadaffy, and took part in the coup that brought Qadaffy to power in 1969. He became a prisoner of war in Chad in 1987. While held prisoner, he and his fellow officers formed a group hoping to overthrow Qadaffy. He was released around 1990 in a deal with the United States government and spent nearly two decades in the United States, gaining US citizenship. In 1993, while living in the United States, he was convicted in absentia of crimes against the Jamahiriya and sentenced to death. Haftar held a senior position in the anti-Qadaffy forces in the 2011 Libyan Civil War. In 2014 he was commander of the Libyan Army when the General National Congress (GNC) refused to give up power in accordance with its term of office. A special forces front man, Fadel al-Hassi, said shelling over the past two days had come from the Sabri and Souq al-Hut districts in northern Benghazi, where Haftar’s opponents have been holding out. The claim could not immediately be verified.

Earlier this week jets pounded Sabri and Souq al-Hut and at least six men from Haftar’s forces were killed in fighting on the ground.

Libyan Forces 'Retake Port' in Jihadist Bastion Sirte
[An Nahar] Forces allied with Libya's unity government said Saturday they had recaptured the port in the jihadist stronghold of Sirte from Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. group fighters who are now surrounded inside the city.

The fall of Sirte, the hometown of ousted dictator Moamer Qadaffy, would be a major setback to the holy warriors who have also lost territory in Syria and Iraq where they have declared an Islamic "caliphate".

The Libyan forces also retook a residential area in the east of Sirte, the main IS base in the North African country, a front man for the forces, Rida Issa, told Agence La Belle France Presse.

The jihadists are now encircled in an area of around five square kilometres inside the city, he said.

The rapid pace of the anti-IS advance has surprised the Libyan authorities.

"The battle wasn't as difficult as we thought it would be," a Libyan government official said Friday.

Foreign intelligence services estimate the Death Eater group has 5,000 fighters in Libya, but its strength inside Sirte and the number of civilians living in the city are unclear.

Libya's unity government forces have fought fierce street battles with the jihadists around a sprawling Qadaffy-era conference centre which once hosted international summits but now houses an IS command centre.

An AFP correspondent at the scene reported heavy street fighting on Friday about two kilometres (one mile) from the Ouagadougou centre.

- 'We won't back down' -GNA forces used tanks, rocket launchers and artillery, the correspondent said, while the jihadists responded with machineguns, mortar rounds and sniper fire.

"We are fighting between houses, on the streets, and we won't back down before we eliminate them," said one GNA combatant, who declined to be named.

Warplanes have carried out air strikes around the conference centre and other IS positions inside the city, according to social media accounts belonging to the anti-jihadist operation.

Eleven members of the forces loyal to the UN-backed Government of National Accord (GNA) were killed and 45 maimed on Friday, mostly by sniper fire, Issa said.

Bangladesh Arrests 37 'Islamist Militants' in Crackdown
[An Nahar] Bangladesh police have placed in durance vile
Drop the heater, Studs, or you're hist'try!
37 suspected Islamist holy warriors as part of a nationwide crackdown on jihadists, an official said Saturday, following a spate of murders of minorities and secular activists.

Police officials said more than 1,000 people were detained after the anti-militant drive was launched across the Moslem-majority country on Friday, although that number included regular arrests.

"In the last 24 hours, 37 Islamist holy warriors were arrested. They included 27 members of Jamayetul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB)," A.K.M Shahidur Rahman, deputy police inspector general told Agence La Belle France Presse.

"Police have also seized one weapon, explosives and ammunition from their possession," he added.

Nine members of the JMB, a banned hard boy outfit, were arrested in Rajshahi, Shariful Islam, a police inspector in the northwestern district, told AFP.

Suspected Islamists have carried out several attacks in Rajshahi in recent months, including the killing of a liberal professor in April.

Police have blamed the JMB for most of the murders of minorities and secular activists in the last three years, which have seen nearly 50 people brutally killed.

The murders have spiked in recent weeks, with a gruesome wave of killings that has spanned from the capital Dhaka to remote parts of the north and coastal south.

On Friday, a Hindu monastery worker was hacked to death in the northwestern district of Pabna.

Also this week, an elderly Hindu priest was found nearly decapitated in a rice field, a Christian grocer was hacked to death near a church and the wife of an anti-terrorism officer was stabbed and shot.

Most of the latest attacks have been claimed either by the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. She and the head of the BNP, Khaleda Zia show such blind animosity toward each other that they are known as the Battling Begums..
's government has, however, blamed homegrown Islamists for the attacks, rejecting claims of responsibility from the international jihadist groups.

The JMB is one of the main domestic hard boy outfits suspected of the murders, with police shooting dead five members of the group since Tuesday.

Colombia Detains Asian Migrants Deserted by Human Traffickers
[An Nahar] Thirty-seven South Asian migrants colonists without visas have been detained in Colombia after they were abandoned by human traffickers, officials said Friday.

They were found near the town Riosucio that borders Panama after being "abandoned by individuals who transported them from one country to another," said the Colombian Navy in a release.

The migrants colonists -- 36 men and one woman -- came from Bangladesh, Nepal, India and Pakistain.

Officials transferred them to the port town Turbo on the coast of the Gulf of Uraba, part of the Caribbean Sea. There they received food and medical attention before taken into the custody of migration authorities, said the statement.

Colombian officials have intercepted 322 undocumented individuals in Turbo, the majority Cuban, who are now in a shelter awaiting word from migration officials who will decide if they can stay, said Emelides Munoz, Turbo's government secretary.

Within the past 15 days more than 750 undocumented migrants colonists have been placed in durance vile

The country has deported more than 6,000 people since the beginning of the year, arresting nearly 4,000 in Turbo and the town Capurgana, both close to the Panamanian border.

Anadolu Agency says the court in Istanbul on Saturday charged one of the suspects with premeditated murder and membership in an armed organization, while the two other suspects were charged with membership in an armed organization.

There was no information on what role they played in Tuesday's attack which targeted a riot police vehicle and killed six coppers and five civilians.

A Kurdish Death Eater group, considered to be an offshoot of the Kurdistan Workers' Party, or PKK, grabbed credit for the attack and warned tourists that Turkey was no longer secure for them.

Mateen Dad ran for AFG Presidency, supported Taliban, Possibly Pashtun
The father of Omar Mateen, identified by police as the man behind the carnage at an Orlando nightclub early Sunday morning, is an Afghan man who holds strong political views, including support for the Afghan Taliban.

Seddique Mateen, who has been referred to as Mir Seddique in early news reports, hosted the "Durand Jirga Show" on a channel called Payam-e-Afghan, which broadcasts from California. In it, the elder Mateen speaks in the Dari language on a variety of political subjects. Dozens of videos are posted on a channel under Seddique Mateen's name on YouTube. A phone number and post office box that are displayed on the show were traced back to the Mateen home in Florida. Mateen also owns a nonprofit organization under the name Durand Jirga, which is registered in Port St. Lucie, Fla.

In one video, Mateen expresses gratitude toward the Afghan Taliban, while denouncing the Pakistani government.

"Our brothers in Waziristan, our warrior brothers in [the] Taliban movement and national Afghan Taliban are rising up," he said. "Inshallah the Durand Line issue will be solved soon."

The "Durand Line issue" is a historically significant one, particularly for members of the Pashtun ethnic group, whose homeland straddles the border between Afghanistan and Pakistan. The Durand Line is that border. It is not clear whether the Mateens are Pashtun. The Afghan Taliban is mostly made up of Pashtuns.

Approx 20 50 dead inside Florida gay nightclub after mass shooting - possible Islamic connection
[CNN] Approximately 20 people people are dead inside Pulse nightclub, Orlando Police Chief John Mina said Sunday morning, just hours after a shooter opened fire in the club. At least 42 people have been transported for medical treatment, he said.
Photo of 29 year old gunman Omar Mateen. TMZ link
Police have shot and killed the gunman, Mina told reporters.

"It's appears he was organized and well-prepared," the chief said, adding that he had an assault-type weapon and a handgun.

Orlando authorities said they consider the violence an act of domestic terror. The FBI is involved.

The shooting began around 2 a.m., and an officer responded, Mina said. The officer engaged in a shoot out outside the club. The gunman then ran into the club.

"That turned into a hostage situation," Mina said.

More police rushed to the scene and broke down a door with an armored vehicle. At that point police shot and killed the gunman, Mina said.

CNN affiliate WKMG video captured club goers carrying injured people from the club.

50 dead in Orlando nightclub terrorism attack, state of emergency declared
[ORLANDOSENTINEL] One gunman armed with a pistol and an assault rifle killed 50 people and injured 53 more at a gay Orlando nightclub early Sunday morning in the deadliest mass shootings in American history.

Federal and local authorities are investigating the massacre as a possible terrorist attack and say the gunman may be an Islamic bully boy. The man, whom officials have identified as 29-year-old Omar Mateen of Port St. Lucie, was killed after a shootout with Orlando police.

Police Chief John Mina said Mateen fired the first shot about 2:02 a.m. at an Orlando police officer and then ran into the club, which held more than 200 people. Details about exactly what happened inside the club were unclear, but police said handled it as a hostage situation.

By 5 a.m., the police department's SWAT team opened fire. They distracted Mateen with an bomb and plowed into the building with a vehicle. When officers went inside, they discovered 50 dead, including Mateen, and 53 injured.

Mina said nine officers were involved in the shooting, and one sustained an injury to his eye and was saved by his helmet.

Mina credited his officers with rescuing 30 hostages from the club, Pulse Orlando, on 1912 S. Orange Ave., which is just south of downtown Orlando and near Orlando Regional Medical Center.

Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer declared the city in "a state of emergency" and Gov. Rick Scott, who is on his way here, extended it to all of Orange County.

"Tonight our community witnessed or experienced a very horrific crime," Dyer said.

In an attempt to shift family members away from ORMC, where many of the injured were taken, authorities set up an information center at a nearby hotel, Hampton Inn at 43 Columbia Street and urged relatives to call 407-246-4357.

U.S. Rep. Alan Grayson, D-Orlando, called the attack a "hate crime" because the shooting happened at a gay club.

Video shows shots being fired at Pulse nightclub
Video recorded by a witness shows the scene at Pulse nightclub in downtown Orlando during a mass shooting.
"It's no coincidence the attack took place where it did and when it did," he said.

Authorities said there is no indication of future attacks in Florida or across the nation. The Federal Bureau of Investigation is leading the investigation.

Mina said the situation is not related to a separate shooting Friday inside The Plaza Live theater in Orlando, where a man opened fire, killing former NBC's "The Voice" contestant Christina Grimmie and himself.

'I saw fire coming out of his gun'

It was Latin night at the club.

Christopher Hansen, who was inside, said he dropped to the floor when he heard about 40 gunshots. People ran from the bar as coppers screamed for everyone to leave.

"I just fell down and crawled out," said Hansen, 23.

"I helped someone who was on the ground. I wasn't sure if he was dead or alive," he said.

As people fled the club, Pulse Orlando posted a note to its own page that said, "Everyone get out of pulse and keep running."

Mina said some people trapped inside the club hid in the bathrooms and called 911.

Rosie Feba was there with her girlfriend for the first time.

"She told me someone was shooting. Everyone was getting on the floor," Feba said. "I told her I didn't think it was real, I thought it was just part of the music, until I saw fire coming out of his gun."

Feba and her girlfriend ran out of the club. On the way out, they saw a man who had been shot.

Feba grabbed him. Others around her called 911. Some of the man's blood stained the sleeve of her striped T-shirt.

Both Feba and her girlfriend were unharmed, but shaken. They waited in a CVS parking lot for more information.

Victims experiencing emotional trauma related to the shooting can dial 2-1-1 for support, said Ashley Blasewitz of the Heart of Florida United Way.

Looking for family

Many of the victims were taken to ORMC, where family members gathered, hoping to get information.

Florida Hospital wouldn't comment on whether it was treating any of the injured, but said they can check on names for families.

Mina called the mass shooting "absolutely terrible. ... one of the worst tragedies we’ve seen."

He said the immediate priority is to identify the dead and injured and notify their next of kin, something that he said would require people to be patient.

"Unfortunately this tragedy and the amount of bodies that are in there, the amount of victims, is going to take some time," Mina said.

Carlos Muniz went to OPD headquarters after the shooting to give an interview.

"It was massacre, basically," said Muniz, who was in the club at the time of the shooting. "And one of our friends is missing."

Muniz initially thought the shots were part of the music.

Meanwhile,
...back at the palazzo, Count Guido had been cornered by the banditti...
authorities scoured the area for bombs, using robotic devices and K-9s. In addition to carrying the weapons, Mina said Mateen was possibly wearing an explosive "device."

Imam Muhammad Musri, president of the Islamic Society of Central Florida, urged people to pray on what he called "a heart-breaking morning."

"It’s a horrible tragedy. We are mourning, We are sad. We are heart-broken," he said.

A mass shooting, he added, "is the worst nightmare, and we are sorry to know that it happened to us."

#14  ...Have been thinking about something all morning, and I hope I can put this with some coherence: What if those predisposed to terrorism and those who are specifically sent here to commit terror actually believe Donald Trump? What if they are starting to believe that Trump will not only be elected, but will go after them unlike anyone previously? What if they fear he will never let them swamp us the way they have other nations? What if they fear he will deal with them the way they deal with others?

What if they think that now is the time to strike, before he can stop them?

"An FBI spokesman said the mass shooting is being investigated as an act of terrorism, adding that they are looking into whether this was an act of domestic or international terror, and if the shooter was a lone wolf.

Police said the gunman, who was shot dead by officers, was believed to be in his 20s, while the FBI believe he may have 'leanings to radical Islamic terrorism'."

#43  FBI FAIL

Omar Mateen, Terrorist Who Attacked Orlando Gay Club, Had Been Investigated by FBI

The senior law enforcement source reports that Mateen became a person of interest in 2013 and again in 2014. The Federal Bureau of Investigation at one point opened an investigation into Mateen but subsequently closed the case when it produced nothing that appeared to warrant further investigation.
“He’s a known quantity,” the source said. “He’s been on the radar before.”

Mateen was a U.S. citizen; his parents are from Afghanistan, CBS News reports.

The senior law enforcement source told The Daily Beast that Mateen was born in New York and was married for a time to a woman from New Jersey.

Speaking to NBC news, Mateen’s father, named as Mir Siddique, said the act was not linked to religion but possibly homophobia.

“This had nothing to do with religion,” he added according to NBC news, adding that his son “got very angry when he saw two men kissing in downtown Miami a couple of months ago.”

Not religion. Culture. The man drove two hours to a third city (saw in Miami, lives in wherever, went to Orlando) to kill as many strangers as he could because his culture told him to. Any chance they are Pashtuns?

#62  WTF? Man with weapons and possible explosives arrested, said he was going to L.A. gay pride parade

Authorities in Santa Monica found possible explosives as well as assault rifles and ammunition in the car of a man who told them he was in town for the L.A. Pride festival in West Hollywood, a law enforcement source said.

Early Sunday, there was a call to Santa Monica police of a suspected prowler near Olympic Boulevard and 11th Street. Patrol officers responded and encountered an individual who told officers he was waiting for a friend. That led officers to inspect the car and find several weapons and a lot of ammunition as well as tannerite, an ingredient that could be used to create a pipe bomb.

The car had Indiana plates. He did make comments that he was in town for the pride event in West Hllywood this weekend. Sources said they did not know of any connection between the gay nightclub shooting in Orlando, Fla., early Sunday morning and the Santa Monica incident, and the investigation has been taken over by FBI.

At first, the marriage was normal, she said, but then he became abusive.

"He was not a stable person," said the ex-wife, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because she feared for her safety in the wake of the mass shooting. "He beat me. He would just come home and start beating me up because the laundry wasn'™t finished or something like that."

U.S. Man Imprisoned for Violating Syria Sanctions
[An Nahar] A Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party, man was sentenced to 32 months in prison Friday for conspiring to skirt US sanctions against Syria by sending tactical military equipment to jihadists in the war-torn country.

Amin al-Baroudi, 50, a Syrian-born naturalized US citizen, pleaded guilty in January to purchasing tens of thousands of dollars' worth of tactical equipment, including night vision rifle scopes, speed loaders and bullet proof vests, destined for Ahrar al-Sham
...a Syria jihadi group made up of Islamists and salafists, not that there's that much difference, formed into a brigade. They make up the main element of the Islamic Front but they don't profess adoration of al-Qaeda and they've been fighting (mainly for survival) against the Islamic State. Their leadership was wiped out at a single blow by a suicide kaboom at a crowded basement meeting in September, 2014...
, an turban group fighting to overthrow the regime of Bashir al-Assad.

Ahrar al-Sham frequently fights alongside the Al-Nusra Front, Syria's Al-Qaeda affiliate that has been designated a terrorist organization by the United States, authorities said.

According to court documents, Baroudi and his co-conspirators traveled with the military goods aboard commercial flights to The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
and then smuggled them into Syria.

Baroudi was accused of making two such trips in February and March 2013.

Militant blows himself up, two others held near Zhob
QUETTA: A militant blew himself up and two others were arrested during a search operation carried out by security personnel near Zhob on Saturday.

According to official sources, personnel of the Frontier Corps (FC) launched the operation in the Kakhao area after getting a tip-off about the presence of militants there.

Men hiding in a house opened fire on FC personnel when they cordoned it off. This led to a heavy exchange of fire between the two sides.

Towards the end of the gunfight, one of the militants blew himself up. Security personnel arrested two militants and recovered a huge quantity of arms and ammunition from the house.

The arrested militants were moved to an unspecified place for interrogation. A spokesman for the FC said the militants belonged to a banned organisation.

Islamic State stones woman to death
[Iraq Sun] (IANS/AKI) Militants from the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group stoned a woman to death for alleged adultery in the northern city of Iraq, aided by onlookers, local news site Aranews reported on Friday.

"Hundreds of people gathered in front of the Zahraa mosque in djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
to witness the execution of the woman," media activist Abdullah al-Malla was quoted as telling Aranews.

The IS bully boyz forced several civilians to take part in the stoning, Aranews cited an eyewitness as saying.

"They called on people to take part in the execution, saying we're in the holy month of Ramadan and we should show commitment to Allah's Sharia and that the woman deserved death for committing adultery," a witness said.

IS' al-Hisba moral police earlier detained the woman in Mosul's al-Tahrir district, accusing her of adultery. A Sharia court then sentenced her to death by public stoning.

During a lightening offensive in 2014, IS captured Mosul, making it the 'capital' of its self-styled Caliphate, which extends across swathes of territory in Iraq and Syria.

The ultra-extremist Sunni Moslem group has continued to mete out barbaric punishments to alleged transgressors in the areas under its control including stoning, beheadings, burning alive and amputations, according to rights activists and monitoring groups.

Military spokesman Ramon Zagala said, "They were not there for combat mission. What we see here is an act of treachery of attacking unarmed and in civilian clothes personnel. These are members of peace and development outreach program teams who are just there trying to build a community."

The identities of the slain soldiers, with a rank of corporal and private first class, were withheld pending notification of their families.

Zagala said they would file murder charges against the perpetrators. He said, "We won’t let this pass. We will continue our operations against them."

Coalition warbirds hit ISIS oil facility in Deir ez-Zor
[ARA News] DEIR EZZOR – US-led coalition’s warplanes on Saturday bombed an oil facility for the radical group of Islamic State (ISIS) in eastern Syria.

Fighter jets of the western coalition launched several airstrikes on ISIS positions near the Abu Kamal city in Syrian eastern Deir ez-Zor province.

“The airstrikes targeted 11 ISIS fighting positions and an oil facility in the vicinity of Abu Kamal,” the coalition said in a statement.

Speaking to ARA News, local media activist Yalmaz Qassim said that Saturday’s strikes left heavy losses in ISIS’ ranks.

“At least five ISIS vehicles were destroyed and over 30 fighters were killed in the coalition’s raids,” Qassim reported, citing an ISIS official.

“Also, a major oil facility in the ISIS-held Abu Kamal city was destroyed by the coalition’s fighter jets on Saturday. This may increase the pressure on the group especially that they already suffer financial shortage,” the activist said.

Bombers Kill Twenty Outside Shrine near Syrian Capital
[An Nahar] A double kaboom outside a Shiite shrine near Syria's capital killed at least twenty people Saturday, in the latest in repeated deadly strikes on the revered site, state media said.

The official SANA news agency said a jacket wallah and a boom-mobile struck at the entrance to the Sayyida Zeinab shrine, which is revered by Shiites around the world.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a British-based monitoring group, reported a higher toll of at least 20 people killed and 30 maimed in the blasts.

The shrine, around 10 kilometres (six miles) south of the center of Damascus, is heavily guarded by pro-government forces but has still been the target of several jihadist attacks, including those claimed by the Islamic State

(IS) group.

Syria's official Al-Ikhbariya channel showed images from the scene of burned-out cars billowing with plumes of black smoke.

Firefighters battled to extinguish the flames as shop signs lay in the street.

The last attack on Sayyida Zeinab on April 25 killed at least seven and maimed dozens.

A string of IS bombings near the shrine in February left 134 people dead, most of them civilians, according to the Observatory.

And in January, another attack claimed by IS killed 70 people.

Lebanese Shiite Lion of Islam group Hezbollah cited the threat to Sayyida Zeinab as a principal reason for its intervention in Syria's civil war on the side of Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad

Thousands of Civilians Trapped in Syria's Manbij
[An Nahar] Tens of thousands of civilians are trapped inside the northern Syrian city of Manbij after US-backed fighters surrounded the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. group stronghold, a monitor said Saturday.

The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) encircled Manbij on Friday, severing IS's principal supply route between The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
and its de facto Syrian capital, Raqa.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a British-based monitor, said warplanes from a US-led coalition were conducting heavy bombing raids on Manbij.

"Tens of thousands of civilians who are still there can't leave as all the routes out of the city are cut," Observatory head Rami Abdel Rahman told AFP.

The US envoy to the anti-IS coalition backing the SDF, Brett McGurk, said the surrounding of Manbij had severed an important route for IS fighters.

"ISIS snuffies now completely surrounded with no way out," he wrote on Twitter, using another name for IS.

The city has been held by IS since 2014 and the Observatory said that thousands of inhabitants had recently fled Manbij as air strikes intensified.

"Bakeries in the town haven't been open since Friday and food is beginning to become rare," Abdel Rahman said.
