Three arrested outside NYC after weapons cache, ballistic vests found in vehicle
[FoxNews] Three people who were arrested when police discovered a weapons cache in a vehicle outside New York City at the Holland Tunnel Tuesday, claim they were on they way to "rescue" a teenage girl involved in drugs, according to officials.

Port Authority Police Department Superintendent Michael A. Fedorko said that Dean Smith, 53, John Cramsey, 50, and Kimberly Arendt, 29, were taken into custody after they were stopped around 7:40 a.m. in Jersey City, N.J.

Cramsey wrote on Smith's Facebook page early Tuesday morning that he was driving to New York to "do an extraction" of a 16-year-old girl from a hotel room in Brooklyn after an issue involving drugs. Smith replied, "I'm there." It was unclear what, if anything, the weapons had to do with their plans.
It was abundantly clear...
The trio, from Pennsylvania, initially was stopped by Port Authority Police at a toll plaza for a cracked windshield, authorities said. An officer saw the weapons in plain view on the passenger side of the vehicle.

Officials found multiple weapons -- some loaded -- including rifles and handguns in their vehicle, described by a law enforcement source as a "jacked up SUV." Law enforcement sources told the New York Post that ballistic vests were also found in the SUV.

A spokeswoman for the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Kelly Langmesser, told Reuters that counter-terrorism agents weren't involved and the case didn't have a "terrorism nexus."

"If it's not terrorism, it's criminal," a source told Fox News.

Drugs were also recovered from the vehicle, which has been cleared from the scene but is still being processed for evidence.

Afghanistan
18 militants killed in an airstrike in North of Afghanistan
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] At least 18 holy warriors were killed in an Arclight airstrike in northern Faryab province of Afghanistan, the Ministry of Defense (MoD) said Tuesday.

The Arclight airstrike was carried out in the vicinity of Garziwan district targeting the bad boys, MoD said, adding that 8 more holy warriors were critically maimed in the raid.

The Ministry of Defense also added that two vehicles belonging to the holy warriors were also destroyed in the Arclight airstrike.

The anti-government armed bad boy groups including the Taliban forces of Evil have not commented regarding the report so far.

Faryab is among the relatively volatile provinces in northern Afghanistan where anti-government armed bad boy groups are actively operating in a number of its districts and often carry out insurgency activities.

This comes as a key Taliban group commander was killed during a shootout with the Afghan cops in Qaisar district two weeks ago.

The senior Taliban capo was identified as Mullah Kamal and was involved in major terrorist activities in this province.

ISIS in Afghanistan claims attacks on Canadian Embassy guards in Kabul
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The loyalists of the Islamic State

The sympathizers of the terrorist group in Afghanistan have claimed that the attack was carried out by a suicide bombeق whom they have identified as Irfanullah Ahmad.

The loyalists of the terror group claim that a group of Nepalese guards working for a foreign embassy were targeted in the attack.

In the meantime, the Taliban group in Afghanistan has claimed that the attack was carried out by the fighers of the Taliban group.

Taliban group front man Zabiullah Mujahid claimed that over 20 people were killed or maimed in the attack.

At least 14 Nepalese security guards were killed after a jacket wallah targeted their vehicle in the 9th police district of Kabul city earlier this morning.

The Canadian Embassy in Kabul confirmed the attack on the employees of security company working for the Embassy in Kabul.

The attack was carried out around 6:00 am local time in Benayi area of the city in the 9th police district of Kabul.

The claim by ISIS loyalists which could not be verified indecently comes as they attempt to expand foothold in the country despite ongoing operations by the Afghan and US forces against the group in the country.

The Afghan and coalition forces officials earlier expressed concern

Taliban kidnap scores of passengers from Helmand province
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The Talibs have kidnapped scores of passengers from the restive in Helmand
...an Afghan province populated mostly by Pashtuns, adjacent to Injun country in Pak Balochistan...
in southern Afghanistan.

The incident took place in Greshk district earlier today after the Talibs stopped a number of vehicles including a bus carrying passengers.

The passengers have been taken to an unknown location and the exact number of hostages yet to be confirmed.

The Talibs group has not commented regarding the report so far.

The Talibs have stepped up hostage takings across the country during the recent weeks as the group claim they abduct security personnel and government officials traveling in the highways.

Numerous kidnapping incidents have taken place in northern Afghanistan following a major kidnapping incident that took place late last month in northern Kunduz province.

At least 185 passengers were kidnapped as they were traveling on the main highway in Kunduz last month but majority of them were released after they were interrogated.

The Talibs killed at least 17 of the kidnapped passengers after they were accused of working for the government.
Later the same day:

Mujahid further added that 27 people were taken by the Talibs and the remaining holy warriors were released after they went through a preliminary interrogation process.

He said the remaining 27 people would be released if found not guilty or would be handed over to the judiciary of the Taliban group if they had role in working with the security institutions.

39 dead in fresh Bunyan Marsous offensive in Sirte
[Libya Herald] At least 39 soldiers from the Bunyan Masrous operations room were killed today in massive clashes with Islamic State (IS) forces near the centre of Sirte. The fighting followed a fresh offensive by the operations room to seize the centre of the town.

Misrata Central Hospital reported that in addition to receiving 39 bodies, it was treating 33 injured, six of them in critical condition. Other reports, though, speak of at least 60 wounded. Most of the dead and injured are from Misrata although some are from Sebha, Sirte, Jufra and Waddan.

The number of IS casualties is unknown although the operations room spoke of dozens dead.

Most of the fighting was in the area known as “700 district” in south east of the centre, and less than a couple of kilometres from the Ibn Sina hospital. Bunyan Marsous says that it now controls much of the area as well as the already heaving damaged District No. 2 in the west centre of town along with the neighbouring Ben Hamal Mosque, the electricity headquarters north of the hospital and the radio station nearby.

Violent clash blocks travellers at Garabulli
Tripoli, 21 June 2016:

Violent fighting this morning blocked the Tripoli-Misrata main road at Garibouli. Travellers were warned on social media not to approach the area. Pictures of the conflict showed burning property and vehicles.

The cause of the fight remains unclear. A local resident claimed that Misratan militiamen were involved in a clash with local militiamen. However another source said that the destruction had followed a dispute between a shopkeeper and a checkpoint guard.

Many die in day-long Garabulli violence

Tripoli, 21 June 2016:

It appears that as many as 80 people may have died in fighting in Garabulli today, with tension remaining high as locals expect further violence in the next 24 hours.

Yesterday, a militiaman from a Misratan unit, believed to be the Bayou Battalion, which is based in the town, went into a shop and allegedly refused to pay for goods. The shopkeeper, Ali Al-Rajhi, shot the militiaman, identified as Al-Ghanma, in the leg. Some reports say Rajhi seized Ghanma’s own weapon and shot him with it. Before sunset, Ghanma’s comrades returned and burnt down the shop and demolished the shopkeeper’s home.

At dawn this morning, young men from Garabulli reportedly attacked three Misratan militia camps in the town, including that belonging to the Bayou Battalion as well as one used by military police. At some point, in one of the camps, a container holding ammunition is said to have exploded causing multiple deaths and injuries. A large brown cloud hung over a compound after the blast. It is being claimed that as many as 49 Misratans died in the course of the day, many apparently in that explosion. However, Misratan military sources are only been mentioning militiamen killed in the fighting in Sirte. There have been no comments about the Garabulli incident.

Meanwhile Garabulli sources are saying that 30 locals were killed and 25 wounded, many of them by Misratan fire from 106mm guns and, one report claimed, Grad rocket salvoes. A resident in the town told the Libya Herald that some of the wounded townspeople had died of their injuries because Misratans blocked the road to both Tripoli and Khoms. Ambulances were not allowed through.

The road either side of Garabulli had earlier been blocked by local residents with sand heaps.

The Bayou Battalion is reported to have abandoned its base and relocated to the village of Gasr Ben Hamad to the east of the town. One source in Misrata described the battalion as “hooligans deeply involved in people-smuggling”. Garabulli along with Zuwara has emerged as a key launching point for migrants.

Tonight the lightly-armed residents are preparing for what they believe will be a counter-attack tomorrow. One claimed that individuals from Tripoli had been arriving in the town to help with its defence.

The incident has been condemned by both the Presidency Council and by UN special envoy Martin Kobler.

In its statement, the Presidency called for militias to withdraw completely from Garabulli and for an investigation, saying that the guilty would be published. It also promised that the army would take over responsibility for security in and around the town.

In a tweet, Kobler said that he was shocked at what had happened and called on everyone to exercise restraint and resect the sanctity of Ramadan.

The death toll among Garabulli townspeople brings awkward echoes of Tripoli’s November 2013 Gharghour massacre in which 47 demonstrators died in a protest at the continued presence of outside militias. Those reverberations are the louder because there are unconfirmed reports that Bayou Battalion members were among the Misratans at the Gharghour base at the time of the killings.

At the time, there was widespread shock at what was the first major loss of life since the Revolution. The bloody confrontation, which was condemned by some in Misrata, led to the withdrawal of its militias from the capital. Misratan forces returned with the Libya Dawn takeover in June 2014. Militiamen from the city are now responsible for guarding prime minister-designate Faiez Serraj and other members of the Presidency Council in their headquarters in Tripoli’s Bu Sitta naval base.

Arms depot blast kills 29 near Libya capital
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] An kaboom in an arms depot near the Libyan capital killed at least 29 people and maimed dozens of others on Tuesday, security and medical officials said.

The blast occurred in Garabulli, a town about 60 kilometers (40 miles) to the east of Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
, when gunnies stormed the depot belonging to a militia, a security official said.

"Armed men stormed the arms depot which belongs to a militia from Misrata (further east). A blast occurred but the exact causes are still unknown. Maybe the militia had rigged the depot," said the official.

A medical source said at least 29 people were killed and dozens maimed.
"There are body parts" at the depot, he said, adding that the corpse count could rise.

The security official said the gunnies stormed the warehouse after clashing Tuesday with armed residents of Garabulli who had accused them of stealing from a grocery store.

Ballistic missile intercepted in Yemen
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] A ballistic missile fired early Tuesday towards the central Yemeni city of Marib has been intercepted, a Saudi-led military coalition battling rebels in the impoverished nation said.

The missile was "destroyed with no damage" after its launch at around 12:15 am (2115 GMT), a statement from the alliance said.

"Coalition air forces immediately responded by destroying the missile launching pad."

#1  Who is crewing the Patriot batteries? And launching one missile is supposed to do what? The bigger the warhead, the bigger the missile, the bigger the launching facility, the harder it is to move said launching facility in a rapid fashion.
So, you launch a single missile into an effective Patriot envelope and are pretty sure in advance you'll lose the launching facility.
Either the shooters are pretty dumb, or there's something OFF here.

Robber killed in gunfight
[Dhaka Tribune] A robber was killed and three police personnel were also injured
...a splinter, a stubbed toe, and a blister on a trigger finger...
in a shootout between his cohorts and police at Rasulpur village in Sarail upazila of the district early yesterday.

The dear departed was Abdus Sattar, 32, a resident of Rasulpur-Rifiujipara village of the upazila.

Officer-in-charge of Sarail Police Station Rupok Kumar Saha said police tossed in the slammer

Sattar from his house in Rifiujipara village on Monday evening.

Based on his information, a team of police along with Sattar conducted a drive in Rasulpur graveyard area to recover arms at about 1.15 am.
Was the graveyard next to a banana grove?
Spider senses tingling at the proximity of the law enforcers, associates of Sattar shot up them. In retaliation, the law enforcers also opened fire leading to a shootout for sometimes.
It took just long enough for those two bullets, one each behind each ear for thoroughness. Longer would have been wasteful.
Sattar was caught in line of the fire and was struck down in his prime while his associates managed to flee the scene.
... as though they had never been...

Did Sattar make it as far as the Dhaka Medical Center Trauma Unit door or did he go straight to Dr. Quincy?
Three coppers including a sub inspector were also injured during the shootout.
Injuries covered at the top of the story, and all have recovered by now.
Sattar was wanted in twelve systems eight cases including for robbery, the OC added.
And so, dear Reader, a good time was had by all, excepting the former miscreant, of course.

"After an initial inspection it was confirmed that it contained salt and [cookies]. Any threat of an kaboom has been initially ruled out," prosecutor’s front man Rym Kechiche said in a statement.

Police later searched the house of the suspect’s mother where they found the remains of the material used in the fake belt.

"The suspect gave a confession and admitted having fabricated his abduction," Kechiche said.

The suspect also confessed to having taken at random a license plate number from a car in the street that he alleged was the one in which he was driven, he added.

The vehicle’s driver was released following questioning.

Prosecutors called for the man to undergo a psychiatric exam and be formally arrested on charges of falsely threatening an attack.

"J.B. is known to the authorities for various incidents, including some linked to psychiatric problems," Kechiche said.

In one recent incident, he had contacted the police saying he had been urged to leave for Syria to join the Islamic State group.

Tuesday’s apparent threat had triggered a massive security operation involving soldiers and police sealing off the shopping center and a nearby Metro station.

Prime Minister Charles Michel called an emergency meeting of his security cabinet when the shopping mall alert was ongoing, reflecting the tensions in the country.

"The situation is for now under control. We remain vigilant," Michel said after the meeting.

The terror alert level in Brussels remained at level three out of four, Belga news agency reported.

The City 2 mall had been mentioned in Belgian media in recent days as a possible target for attacks.
Al Arabiya adds:
The incident began at about 0430 GMT this morning after a report of a man acting suspiciously near the City 2 shopping centre triggered a bomb alert, broadcaster RTL reported.

Three arrested over links to killer of French police couple
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Three people have been jugged

over their connection to the killer of a French policeman, police sources said on Tuesday.

A man who claimed allegiance to ISIS stabbed a senior French police officer to death on June 13 before he was killed in a dramatic police operation, officials have said.

The unidentified attacker killed the officer before taking his partner and their son hostage in their home in Magnanville, near Gay Paree.

He was rubbed out by members of an elite police unit after negotiations failed. The partner was found dead but the child was rescued.
The Times of Israel adds:
Investigators release a man held briefly Tuesday for his links to the jihadist killer of a police commander and his partner, saying they would not charge him at this stage.

The 41-year-old convicted jihadist had been incarcerated

in Les Mureaux, a town west of Gay Paree, where police carried out six raids looking for associates of Larossi Abballa, rubbed out by police after he killed the couple on June 13.

"There are no charges against him at this stage," the Versailles prosecutor tells AFP, adding: "The investigation continues."

for eight years for his role in bombings claimed by Al-Qaeda that killed 33 people in Casablanca, Morocco, in 2003. He was stripped of his French nationality in a move that was upheld earlier this month.

Police officer Jean-Baptiste Salvaing and civil police employee Jessica Schneider were stabbed to death at their home in Magnanville, also west of the French capital. Abballa, 25, killed Salvaing before taking Schneider hostage and slitting her throat. Her three-year-old son who was in the house was traumatized but unharmed.

Home Front: WoT
Brownsburg man arrested, accused of traveling to support ISIL
[WTHR] A Brownsburg, Indiana, man was tossed in the calaboose
Please don't kill me!
Tuesday for attempting to join the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
of Iraq and the Levant (ISIS).

FBI agents arrested Akram Musleh, 18, as he tried to board a bus from Indianapolis to New York. The FBI believes Musleh was going to fly to Morocco in transit to ISIS-controlled territory.

The arrest was announced by Assistant Attorney General for National Security John P. Carlin, U.S. Attorney Josh J. Minkler of the Southern District of Indiana and Special Agent in Charge W. Jay Abbott of the FBI’s Indiana Division.

Musleh is accused of planning to provide support to ISIS by fighting for the terrorist group.

FBI agents were on the scene at Brownsburg Pointe Apartments in connection with the investigation.

Musleh attended Brownsburg High School
According to the criminal complaint, when Musleh was a student at Brownsburg High School in 2013, he posted three videos of Anwar Al-Awlaki to YouTube. Al-Awlaki was a radical holy man assassinated in a drone strike several years ago, and his videos encouraging Moslems to kill Americans have been associated with the radicalization of several suspects in domestic terror attacks.

The complaint says the school worked with the FBI to dissuade Musleh from "engaging in radical extremism."

In September 2014, Musleh bought an ISIS flag online. In June 2015, he was seen in a photo posing in front of the flag.

Musleh allegedly asked youths if they wanted to join ISIS
In April 2015, Brownsburg Police investigated an incident in Williams Park in Brownsburg to look into allegations that certain people at the park were asking juveniles if they wanted to join ISIS (another name for ISIS). The FBI determined that Musleh was one of the people asking juveniles about joining ISIS.

First attempt to travel to The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
It's believed Musleh traveled to Istanbul, Turkey in June 2015, booking at least three separate one-way tickets from reliably Democrat Chicago, aka The Windy City or Mobtown
... home of Al Capone, a succession of Daleys, Barak Obama, and Rahm Emmanuel,...
to Istanbul. Musleh allegedly told U.S. Customs and Border Protection that he was going to Istanbul to visit family. Then he explained he was traveling to get married, and would be meeting his fiancee and her family there. But the FBI says Musleh doesn't have family or friends in Turkey - and they say that the alleged fiancee is an ISIS sympathizer living in Sweden.

Musleh was not allowed to travel to Turkey in June 2015 because his passport was set to expire that August. Turkey requires a minimum of six months of validity on passports for visitors.

Journal, online statements in support of ISIS
When the FBI conducted an authorized search of Musleh's checked baggage, they found a journal containing quotes from Al-Awlaki, the late Osama bin Laden
... who was laid out deader than a mackerel, right next to the mackerel...
and others associated with terrorist groups.

The FBI says Musleh posted statements supporting ISIS on social media and found evidence of that activity online.

One-way ticket
Investigators say Musleh bought a one-way ticket on April 4, 2016 for June 23, 2016, from John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York to Casablanca, Morocco, and then on to Nador, Morocco. On April 21, 2016, he bought a one-way Greyhound bus ticket from Indianapolis to New York, to depart on June 21, 2016.

Musleh researched terror targets in Indiana
The FBI found that in May 2016, Musleh looked at a 2006 news article with the headline, "Indiana tops lists for terror targets," which details the Indiana Department of Homeland Security's list of 8,500 terror targets in the state. He also looked at commercial websites for pressure cookers a few days later and conducted extensive research on kabooms like dynamite, flash powder, explosive precursors, along with instructions about explosive chemical recipes.

Iraqi commander: About 2,500 IS militants killed in Fallujah
[IsraelTimes] A senior Iraqi military commander says about 2,500 Islamic State

holy warriors have been killed during a month-long offensive to recapture the city of Fallujah.

The counter-terrorism forces’ chief in the operation, Lt. General Abdul-Wahab al-Saadi, tells the local al-Sumaria TV late on Monday that the number of IS fighters inside Fallujah ranged between 3,500 to 4,000 when the offensive began in late May.

Iraqi troops have not disclosed their losses in Fallujah though the Islamic State group claims to have killed dozens.

Al-Saadi offers no specifics to back up the figure of 2,500 killed IS fighters. He claimed about 15 percent of them were imported muscle.

He cites Iraqi police reports as saying 1,086 IS-linked suspects have been placed in durance vile

300 Kurd prisoners released as ISIS gets the hell outta Dodge

[ARA News] DUHOK – Subsequent to the withdrawal of the radical group of Islamic State (ISIS) from major parts of Fallujah city, Iraqi forces announced the release of hundreds of Yezidi Kurds who had been taken by ISIS as hostages two years ago.

Activists confirmed the release of 354 Yezidi girls from ISIS detention in Fallujah.

“The freed girls had been taken as sex slaves by ISIS jihadis,” Yezidi rights activist Kelesh Shingali told ARA News. “They are now under the protection of the government forces and they’ll soon be transferred to the Kurdistan Region.”

“The release of those girls was a great accomplishment, especially after they suffered brutal practices and sexual abuse by ISIS barbarians,” he said.

“The entire Yezidi community is happy for the freedom of those girls, and we are looking forward to the release of the rest of Yezidi women held by ISIS,” Shingali told ARA News.

In August 2014, ISIS radicals took over the Yezidi region of Shingle (Sinjar) in northern Iraq, causing a mass displacement of nearly 400,000 people to Duhok and Erbil in Iraqi Kurdistan. Tens of thousands of Yezidis remained trapped in Mount Sinjar, suffering mass killings, kidnappings and rape cases, according to local and military sources. Also, more than 3000 Yezidi girls have been taken by the radical group as sex slaves.

On November 13, the Kurdish Peshmerga forces in Iraqi Kurdistan, backed by an air cover from the US-led coalition forces, announced the liberation of the entire Yezidi district of Shingal in the northern Iraqi province of Nineveh after fierce battles with ISIS extremists. The Kurdish forces have recently discovered more than five mass graves in the Yezidi region, where hundreds of Yezidi civilians have been summarily executed and buried by ISIS jihadis. Yet, thousands of Yezidi women remain in ISIS captivity after being sold as sex slaves across the group’s territory in Iraq and Syria.

Human Rights Watch called on ISIS to urgently release Yezidi women and girls abducted since 2014. “The longer they are held by ISIS, the more horrific life becomes for Yezidi women, bought and sold, brutally raped, their children torn from them,” said Skye Wheeler, women’s rights emergencies researcher at Human Rights Watch.

“Many of the abuses, including torture, sexual slavery, and arbitrary detention, would be war crimes if committed in the context of the armed conflict, or crimes against humanity if they were part of ISIS policy during a systematic or widespread attack on the civilian population,” the HRW said. “The abuses against Yezidi women and girls documented by Human Rights Watch, including the practice of abducting women and girls and forcibly converting them to Islam and/or forcibly marrying them to ISIS members, may be part of a genocide against Yezidis.”

Iraqi forces seize 2 Fallujah districts from Islamic State
[Iraq Sun] Iraq's armed forces pressed on with their offensive to retake the city of Fallujah from Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
on Tuesday, June 21dislodging the gunnies from two eastern districts and pushing them back into a handful of northern and western neighborhoods, Rooters reports.

A military statement said the elite counter-terrorism forces took the northeastern Shurta police district while units from Baghdad operations command recaptured the Askari military neighborhood.

Islamic State still held the northern districts of Jughaifi and Golan as well as the western banks of the Tigris river.

Fighting to recapture the Iraqi city longest held by Islamic State, now in its fifth week, has forced more than 85,000 residents to flee to overwhelmed government-run camps.

Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi said last week that the recapture of Fallujah would pave the way for the military to march on djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
, Islamic State's de facto capital, Rooters says.

The operation's commander Lieutenant General Abdul Wahab al-Saidi told Rooters on Monday that U.S.-backed Iraqi forces expected the final push would take place in the west.

The Iraqi army is also pressing on with an offensive to dislodge the gunnies from farmlands located on the western bank of the Euphrates, opposite the built-up area of Fallujah,
... the City of Mosques, which might have somthing to do with why it's not called Center of Prosperity or a really nice place to raise your kids...
that the gunnies use as a base for snipers and mortar attacks.

"The simultaneous attacks are continuing from four directions to tighten the noose around ISIS (Islamic State)fighters entrenched in houses among civilians and prevent them from catching their breath," said Colonel Ahmed al-Saidi from the federal police.

Government troops launched the operation on May 23 to retake Fallujah, a bastion of the Sunni Moslem insurgency against U.S. forces that toppled Saddam Hussein, a Sunni, in 2003, and later against Shi'ite-led governments.

The gunnies seized Fallujah in January 2014, six months before they declared a "caliphate" over part of Syria and Iraq.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Palestinians firebomb Israeli cars; teen shot dead by IDF
[IsraelTimes] Three Israeli motorists said lightly injured; army walks back statement blaming slain youth for attack.

Israeli troops rubbed out a Paleostinian teenager after Paleostinians threw Molotov cocktails at cars near the West Bank village of Beit Ur al-Tahta early Tuesday. Other Paleostinians were maimed, Paleostinian security officials said.

The army said that troops shot at least two men, "after a number of Paleostinians hurled rocks and Molotov cocktails at moving vehicles near the village of Beit Sira on route 443."

Three Israelis were maimed when their car was pelted with stones on Route 443, a highway connecting Tel Aviv and Jerusalem that runs through the West Bank west of Jerusalem, the IDF said. Several vehicles were damaged.

"An initial review suggests that as the mob continued, nearby forces acted in order to protect the additional passing vehicles from immediate danger and fired toward the assailants," a military statement said. "Forces confirmed hits resulting in the death of one of the attackers."

An IDF spokesperson later retracted the statement, telling The Times of Israel that none of the Paleostinians hit by gunfire were believed to have been involved in the rock-throwing incident.
It's never a good idea to hang around when bullets are flying -- they don't differentiate between innocent and guilty.
Paleostinian officials named the dead youth as as 15-year-old Mahmoud Badran. Paleostinian media identified him as coming from the village of Kafr Qadum, east of Qalqilya.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Syrian rebels open aid corridor to Manbij
[ARA News] QAMISHLO – The Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) on Tuesday opened a humanitarian corridor between the ISIS-held city of Manbij and its countryside, in a bid to help civilians evacuate the war-torn city.

Backed by the US-led coalition’s air cover, the SDF recaptured the entire countryside of Manbij from ISIS militants subsequent to heavy fighting. More than 105 villages were liberated since the SDF launched a battle for Manbij on 31 May, 2016. However, the group is still in control of the city of Manbij and has been using civilians as human shields in the fighting against the SDF.

“After capturing western parts of the city, our forces have opened a humanitarian corridor between the city and its liberated countryside in order to assist civilians to evacuate the city so that we can continue with our operations against ISIS terrorists inside Manbij city,” SDF officer Habun Osman told ARA News.

Hundreds of civilians were able to escape the besieged city of Manbij, using the corridor opened by the SDF west of the city.

“The safety of civilians is a top priority for us at the moment, otherwise we would have already liberated the entire Manbij border pocket from ISIS,” the SDF official said. “So, now we are trying to rescue the stranded civilians and prevent the terror group from using them as human shields during the clashes. Then we’ll attack ISIS in its final stronghold in Manbij downtown.”

The 98-kilometer-long border area in Aleppo’s countryside is called the Manbij pocket, and is used by the Islamic State group (ISIS) to transport foreign fighters from Turkey to Syria, and to smuggle arm supplies to the de-facto ISIS capital of Raqqa, in northeastern Syria. Also, the extremist group has used the Manbij pocket to send trained jihadis abroad to conduct terrorist attacks. Closing it down would make Europe and America safer, US and Kurdish officials have said.

ISIS counter-attack pushes Syrian forces out of Raqqa province
[RUDAW.NET] The Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(ISIS) has reportedly pushed Syrian regime forces back out of the province of Raqqa in a large counter-offensive which has killed 40 soldiers, afflicting a serious setback on the regimes two-week old offensive against the murderous Moslems there.

"ISIS [ISIS] has managed to drive out regime troops from the administrative borders of Raqqa province after a fierce counter-offensive," the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitor reported.

ISIS launched this counter-offensive late on Sunday as the regime forces closed in on the town of Tabqa, home to a former airbase and Syria’s largest dam. Tabqa is 40 kilometers upstream, west, of the lovely provincial capital city of Raqqa, ISIS’s primary city stronghold in Syria.

The Syrian Observatory reported on Monday that the regime has been forced to 40km from Tabqa airport after previously being only 7km away from it.

Fearing losing Tabqa - and the regime successfully securing a foothold in Raqqa for the first time since August 2014 - ISIS poured hundreds reinforcements into that key town from Raqqa city.

The Observatory estimates that 40 of the regime forces were killed, including an officer, while no fewer than 21 ISIS murderous Moslems were killed. This brings the total casualties in the regimes Raqqa offensive to 93 dead regime forces and 126 dead ISIS murderous Moslems, according to the Observatory’s estimates.

#2  Firebombing villages in Idlib and Aleppo, far as I can tell. Maybe some CAS east of Palmyra. There's some claiming that the Tabqa area was under a sandstorm, but the footage doesn't show anything particularly extreme. And that there is a heck of a rout.

Might have been the result of withdrawals to south of Aleppo to reinforce or re-build a front behind where Hezbollah broke under the pressure of a rebel/Nusra offensive out of Idlib a couple days ago.

The regime policy of "fight everybody" seems to paying anti-dividends.

Meanwhile there's footage today of a B-52 over Manbij. I don't know if they were using telephoto lenses or if they're really flying BUFFs that low on CAS duty. I honestly thought they used the B-52s further out than that.

#5  I just don't get it. I was never in the military, which given my penchant for arguing with authority, is probably a good thing all around. I have all the respect in the world for you guys that have "been there, done that."

That said, though, I was raised on the stories of WWII and almost wound up in Viet Nam. 40 killed seems like a minor skirmish rather that the results of a "large counter-offensive".

So for all you spurts out there why am I so off the track?
