Man shoots off firework from top of his head, dies
[NAPLESNEWS] A young man who was drinking and celebrating the Fourth of July tried to launch a firework off the top of his head, fatally injuring himself, authorities said Sunday.

Devon Staples and his friends had been drinking and setting off fireworks Saturday night in the backyard of a friend's home in the small eastern Maine city of Calais, said Stephen McCausland, a front man for the state Department of Public Safety. Staples, 22, of Calais, placed a fireworks mortar tube on his head and set it off, he said.

The firework went kaboom!, killing Staples instantly, McCausland said.

His death is the first fireworks fatality in Maine since the state legalized fireworks on Jan. 1, 2012, authorities said.

Afghanistan
Ghani to Have Farkhunda Case Reassessed Following Outrage Over Appeal Decision
[Tolo News] Following widespread outrage over a recent Appeals Court decision to reverse sentences for key defendants convicted of murdering Farkhunda, a front man for President Ashraf Ghani
...former chancellor of Kabul University, now president of Afghanistan. Before returning to Afghanistan in 2002 he was a scholar of political science and anthropology. He worked at the World Bank working on international development assistance. As Finance Minister of Afghanistan between July 2002 and December 2004, he led Afghanistan's attempted economic recovery until the Karzais stole all the money. ..
on Sunday said that the president has promised to reassess the case with the help of the Attorney General's Office.

According to the deputy front man, Zafar Hashimi, President Ghani recently met with civil society activists and vowed to pursue justice for Farkhunda -- a 27-year-old girl who was killed in March by an angry Kabul
...the capital of Afghanistan. Home to continuous fighting from 1992 to 1996 between the forces of would-be strongman and Pak ISI/Jamaat-e-Islami sock puppet Gulbuddin Hekmayar and the Northern Alliance, a period which won Hek the title Most Evil Man in the World and didn't do much for the reputations of the Northern Alliance guys either....
mob after she was falsely accused of burning a copy of the Holy Koran.

"The president has promised to leave no stone unturned in ensuring justice for Farkhunda's case," Hashimi said. "There are a number of gaps in the investigation of the case; therefore, it will be reviewed once more."

Meanwhile,
...back at the shouting match, a new, even louder, voice was to be heard...
the Director of the Afghanistan Independent Bar Association (AIBA), Rohullah Qazizada, has confirmed Hashimi's comments, saying that the president is committed to retrial given the major gaps in the original investigation.

Last week, an Appeals Court reversed the verdict of the Kabul Primary Court, which had included four death sentences for defendants accused of having central roles in Farkhunda's brutal murder. The Appeals Court sentenced three of the men to 20 years of imprisonment and another to 10 years.

In addition to the anger of Farkhunda's relatives, civil society activists and women's rights groups expressed outrage over the Appeals Court ruling.

Civil Society Association head Aziz Rafee said on Sunday that his meeting with the president indicated that Ghani is completely unsatisfied with the way the case was handled by Sherlocks and the courts. "The case will be reassessed to come up with a just decision in this regard," Rafee told TOLOnews.

Europe
EU politicians come to grips with the results from Greece.
[POLITICO.EU] German Chancellor Angela Merkel
...current chancellor of Germany. She was educated in East Germany when is was still run by commies, but in 1989 got involved with the growing democracy movement when the Berlin Wall fell. Merkel is sometimes referred to by Germans as Mom...
and French President Francois Hollande
...the Socialist president of La Belle France, an economic bad joke for la Belle France but seemingly a foreign policy realist...
called for an emergency Euro summit on Tuesday, as EU leaders considered their next moves after Sunday's overwhelming rejection by Greek voters of bailout terms demanded by creditors.

Agence La Belle France-Presse, quoting a German government official, reported that the two leaders agreed in a phone call that the "No" from Greek voters must be respected.

European politicians reacted to the Greek referendum results Sunday night with a mixture of dismay and resignation as it became clear that the No campaign was winning by a large margin.

"We have to respect the vote of the Greek people," said Martin Schulz, the president of the European Parliament. "We are in a difficult situation; the Greek people said no but 18 other members agreed on the proposals of which Greeks said no."

#1  It's time to stand back and watch.

It will be a good lesson to those who advocate the type of liberal nanny state policies that have turned Greece into a collapsing near failed state.

Also consider Goldman Sach's contribution as financial advisers to the Greek government in which part of the advice was to cook the books and lie to the IMF and the EU about the amount of debt...and to do a lot of creative hijinks with bonds and monetary policy.

Funny didn't Goldman Sachs essentially do the same thing with Freddy Mac and Fanny Mae?

Why isn't everyone of these geniuses at Goldman Sachs in jail instead of enjoying their wealth sucked from the carcass of Goldman Sachs.

#3  About the same level of "scary" as the 40-45 percent of American voters who believe the Champ is doing a fair to better than average job as president.

As long as the 'free stuff' keeps coming, the politics is not likely to change.

#5  Just got back from the UK and France. Had a very profound visit to Omaha and Utah Beaches. We met some very good people in our travels. Getting back to Reykjavik and eventually Anchorage AK, it feels good to be home. Looking at the big picture, the world is going through the beginnings of a very painful reset. Financially, it is not sustainable. We as a country will have to relearn a lot of basic lessons. The rest is fluff.

#6  ..except the urbanist think the fluff is so important, more so than things like farming, creating energy, clean water. Well, some in Cali are waking up to the latter, but its too late.

Malaysian leader faces risk of criminal charges over fund
[ARABNEWS] Malaysia's prime minister is facing the risk of criminal charges over allegations that hundreds of millions of dollars were funneled from an indebted state fund to his personal bank accounts, the first time a Malaysian leader has faced criminal allegations.

The country's attorney general confirmed late Saturday that he had received documents from an official investigation that made the link between Prime Minister Najib Razak and the investment fund 1MDB. The existence of the documents was first reported by The Wall Street Journal's Asia edition on Friday, showing some $700 million were wired from entities linked to the fund into Najib's accounts.

The documents sent to the attorney general pave the way for possible criminal charges.

African immigrants in US seeking greater rights
[RUDAW.NET] When people think of the controversial immigration debate in the United States, they mostly think of Hispanic immigrants who cross over the border from Mexico . However this minority is not the only one affected by the United States’ complex immigration laws.

Over the past 50 years the number of African immigrants residing in America has almost doubled - and like other newcomers, they want their voices heard.

'Million person march' to take down Confederate flag in Columbia, SC draws almost nobody

#1  I had the misfortune to be in DC the day after 'the million family' march a few years back.
Apparently everybody brought a picnic lunch to the mall, then left it. The park service crews just stood and stared at the mall knee deep in KFC boxes and bones, and watermelon hulls. Ready for public servants to clean it up.

Be glad there were only 3 in Columbia.

Posted by: DarthVader || 07/06/2015 13:17 Comments || Top||

#6  Increasingly, the major media/political class integration at NBC/CBS and the DNC/WH has set about defining news through editing and actual event creation to set the narrative for the low-information (poorly educated) voters who still think they are getting a genuine perspective of events. The political establishments of both parties have become focused on setting the agenda to enrich themselves and their donor-patrons, at the expense of the Republic which will not survive another decade of these abuses. The tidal wave of low-skill, low-education, poor health illegals is already crippling educational and healthcare systems through out the nation.
