Heavy fighting continues in Parwan
Local officials in northern Parwan said on Thursday that Taliban attacked security check posts in Seyagerd district of the province and that clashes are ongoing.

The attacks started early Thursday after dozens of Taliban insurgents attacked the check posts and clashed with the forces, a police official in Dar-e-Ghorband area of Seyagerd, Mohammad Haroon Mubarez said.

“The Taliban will be defeated in their attack and they don’t have the capacity to fight us,” Mubarez said.

However, he did not provide further details about the clashes nor casualties.

In the meantime, a number of motorists have said that the Parwan-Bamiyan highway has been closed to traffic due to ongoing clashes.

However, the Taliban have not yet commented over the clash.

The attack killed 42 people and injured 34 of the 140-plus people on board, the Sherlocks wrote to the UN Security Council on Monday in a 185-page report seen by Rooters news agency on Wednesday.

"This civilian vessel was almost certainly attacked using a 7.62mm calibre weapon from an armed utility helicopter," the report said.

"The Saudi Arabia-led coalition forces are the only parties to the conflict that have the capability to operate armed utility helicopters in the area."
The document said the helicopter was likely to have been operating from a naval vessel.

Algeria arrests jihadist linked to Paris kosher market terrorist
More on this story from yesterday.
[IsraelTimes] Security forces said to foil plot by jihadists with ties to criminal mastermind of deadly 2015 attack on Hyper Cacher

Algerian security forces have foiled a terror plot criminal masterminded by a terrorist with links to La Belle France-based jihadist Amedy Coulibaly and the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. group, the al-Khabar daily reported Thursday.

Citing "well-placed security sources," the newspaper said early results of an investigation "show a strong link between the head of the terrorist cell" and Coulibaly, who in 2015 killed a municipal police officer then four hostages in a Hyper Cacher kosher supermarket in Gay Paree before being killed.

The alleged head of the Algerian cell, Mohammed Yacine Aknouche, was sentenced by a French court in 2004 to eight years in prison for taking part in a failed plan to blow up a Christmas market in the eastern city of Strasbourg.

The French-Algerian dual national was placed in durance vile

Tuesday along with a minor and a third person whose identity has not been revealed, in Ain Tagourait, 60 kilometers (40 miles) west of Algiers, al-Khabar said.

During a raid on Aknouche’s apartment, security forces found "dozens of photos" of places he was hoping to attack, including army installations, it said.

Algerian security forces are "trying to determine the type of relationship" between Aknouche and Coulibaly after discovering electronic conversations between the two men, al-Khabar said.

It said the investigation had uncovered a link between Aknouche and "murderous attacks in European countries... committed by ISIS", an Arabic acronym for IS.

Algerian authorities declined to give AFP further details.

Egypt: 70 people get 7-25 years for post-coup violence
[AA.TR] An Egyptian military court on Thursday handed down sentences ranging from seven to 25 years to 70 civilians convicted of committing violence after the 2013 military coup, according to a lawyer for the defendants.

"The military court in Asyut Governorship [south] sentenced 58 civilians to life in prison after being convicted of storming and burning the Magaga Police Station in Minya Governorship," effectively giving them a 25-year sentence, said Khaled al-Koumi, a member of the defendants’ defense team.

"The same court sentenced five defendants to 15 years in prison, five to 10 years, and two others to seven years," he added.

He also pointed out that Thursday’s verdicts are preliminary and can be appealed before the same court within 60 days.
And then appealed again at the next level, and so forth. Surely Christian Purgatory was modelled on this Muslim reality.
Egypt was roiled by violence and unrest after the military deposed Mohammed Morsi, the country's first freely elected president, in a 2013 coup.

Since Morsi's overthrow, Egyptian authorities have launched a relentless crackdown on dissent, killing hundreds and sending thousands behind bars.

Nigeria: Oil corporation confirms Boko Haram kidnapping

The confirmation comes two days after Boko Haram fighters ambushed the workers in the Gubio area, reportedly killing several of them, including at least nine soldiers who the army says were on a rescue mission.

Local news media are reporting the killing of some 48 persons in the ambush, including soldiers, member of a local vigilante group, and the oil workers, whose bodies they say were brought to a government hospital in Maiduguri, Borno’s capital.

There was no official confirmation of the corpse count outside the nine the army confirmed late Wednesday.

"We're gladdened by reports of the rescue of some of the victims. We however await official confirmation from military authorities," Petroleum Minister and Nigerian National Petroleum Corp. (NNPC) head Ibe Kachikwu told a news briefing on Thursday in the capital Abuja.

Machete-wielding man 'screaming Allahu Akbar' rampage in Hamburg supermarket
We'll probably never know his true motivation
[DailyMail] A man wielding a large kitchen knife killed one and wounded four others after storming into a supermarket in the German city of Hamburg.

The attacker is reported to have screamed 'Allahu Akbar' before running into the Edeka shop where he stabbed one person and slashed at four others while trying to flee.

He was pursued by passers-by who wrestled him to the ground and called the police, who later arrested him.

One officer said there was 'no valid information on the motive of the attacker' who has yet to be identified.

German daily Bild published a photo of the attacker in the back of a police car with a white, blood-soaked bag over his head.

German court jails notorious Islamist preacher
[IsraelTimes] Sven Lau convicted of helping to recruit for so-called ’Army of Emigrants colonists and Supporters,’ deemed a terrorist organization

One of Germany’s most notorious Islamist preachers, Sven Lau, was sentenced Wednesday to five and a half years in jail for backing a terrorist group.

The German Salafist convert, who had previously sparked outrage by forming a "Sharia police" vigilante group, was convicted for helping to recruit for Jaish al-Muhajireen wal-Ansar (JMA) or Army of Emigrants colonists and Supporters.

JMA, which includes Chechens, Uzbeks and Tajiks, first emerged in Syria in 2012, and is deemed a terrorist organization by Germany.

In September 2015, the gunnies pledged allegiance to the al-Nusra
...formally Jabhat an-Nusrah li-Ahli al-Sham (Support Front for the People of the Levant), also known as al-Qaeda in the Levant. They aim to establish a pan-Arab caliphate. Not the same one as the Islamic State, though .. ...

organization.

Prosecutors said Lau was the main contact for JMA in the western city of Duesseldorf.

The 36-year-old had also traveled to Syria in September 2013 and had purchased night vision equipment for the jihadist group, prosecutors said.

Lau, a former firefighter, had denied the accusations when he was incarcerated
Keep yer hands where we can see 'em, if yez please!
in December 2015.

He argued that his trip to Syria was for humanitarian reasons, despite photos showing him carrying a Kalashnikov aboard a tank.

Lau has been a controversial figure in Germany, where he sparked outrage with "Sharia police" street patrols in the western city of Wuppertal in 2014, telling people to stop drinking, gambling and listening to music.

However,
those who apply themselves too closely to little things often become incapable of great things...
a German court in November ruled the vigilante group did not break the law.

The city’s district court ruled that the seven accused members of the group did not breach a ban on political uniforms when they approached people while wearing orange vests bearing the words "Sharia Police."

Judges said there could only be a violation of the law -- originally aimed against street movements such as the early Nazi party -- if the uniforms were "suggestively krazed killer or intimidating."

Separately, Germany’s anti-terror prosecutors announced Wednesday the arrest of three suspected Islamists in the northeastern city of Guestrow.

The trio are suspected of having prepared "an act of violence that threatens the security of the state," said federal prosecutors in a statement, without giving details.

Home Front: WoT
Hezbollah America announces itself, issues first threat
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] A previously unknown bully boy group identifying itself as the "Hezbollah Army in America" has declared its existence by publishing a statement, copies of which were sent to the Iranshahr News Agency headquarters in Los Angeles.

The terrorist group’s statement, dated March 22, 2017, was also clandestinely distributed in large numbers in the Persian Square area ‐ a section of Westwood Boulevard, at the heart of the Iranian expatriate community ‐ in the early morning hours of Wednesday, July 26, 2017.

Referring to the presence of US forces in the Gulf, the authors of the statement have threatened to respond to the American "terrorist" activities in that region, here on American soil.

Repeating the trade mark expressions of the Iranian government regarding ’World Zionism’ and ’System of Arrogance’, the group is calling itself the ’Unified arm of Moslem nations of the Middle East’ in America, and threatens it with "an iron fist" on its own soil if it does not leave the Gulf.

The statement begins with the Koranic verse of "Indeed the Party of Allah [Hezbollah] Shall Overcome Them", which is part of the common logo of the Lebanese Hezbollah and the Iranian IRGC, and its text consists of a series of disorganized cut and pasted sections from another text.

Alarm
According to the Iranshahr local correspondent, some of the Iranians living in the Persian Square area, have reported the issue to the local police as well as the FBI, declaring their concerns over their security in this neighborhood.

The police have expanded their scope of investigations, have increased their open and undercover patrols in the area and have started a range of activities to finding clues and identifying this terrorist group.

The police have also begun investigating possible links between the birth of this group and the death threats received by the editor-in-chief of the Iranshahr News Agency.

It is also noteworthy that an Iranian revolutionary guard "military theorist" named Hassan Abbassi, had previously announced the establishment of terrorist cells on American soil, while a known Iranian militia leader who was travelling to the US under the cover of a "cancer researcher", was deported from the Boston Airport a couple of weeks ago, amid the pro-Iran lobbyists’ intense campaign in his favor.

Pakistan's prime minister removed amid corruption probe
Pakistan's top court on Friday disqualified Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif from office after a damning corruption probe into his family wealth, cutting short his third stint in power and ordering a criminal investigation of his family.

In a surprise move, the court also dismissed Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, one of Sharif's closest allies who has been credited with steering the economy to its fastest pace of growth in a decade.

But Sharif's ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz party, which has a majority in parliament, is expected to name a new prime minister to hold office until elections due next year.

The Supreme Court ruled unanimously that Sharif was not fit to hold office after an investigative panel alleged his family could not account for its vast wealth.

"He is no more eligible to be an honest member of the parliament, and he ceases to be holding the office of prime minister," Judge Ejaz Afzal Khan said in court.

Prior to the decision, several cabinet ministers, including Sharif's closest allies, said the ruling party would respect the Supreme Court's verdict.

"Go, Nawaz, Go," shouted supporters of the PTI opposition party who had gathered outside the court, and who jeered politicians from Sharif's party.

The Balochistan government has already announced a head money of Rs2 million each for the attackers, whereas posters with their pictures on them have also been placed in different areas of Quetta.

The Supreme Court had taken up a follow-up case on a critical report by one-man inquiry commission of Justice Qazi Faez Isa on the Aug 8 suicide kaboom at Quetta’s Civil Hospital. Al Qaeda announces Zakir Musa as head of Kashmir cell
[ENGLISH.MANORAMAONLINE] Global jihadi network Al Qaeda on Thursday officially announced the establishment of its unit in Jammu and Kashmir, naming former Hizbul Mujahideen militant Zakir Musa as its chief in the troubled state.

The announcement was made by the Global Islamic Media Front, a media wing of Al Qaeda and its allied jihadist groups across the world.

The Al Qaeda online propaganda wing disseminated a statement on social media, declaring Musa, a close aide of slain militant commander Burhan Wani, as its leader in Kashmir.

"After the heroic martyrdom of Burhan Wani, the jihad in Kashmir has entered a stage of awakening. Firmly holding the flag of jihad in their hands, Muslims in Kashmir have committed to retaliate with gun every aggression by tyrant Indian invaders," the statement said.

It said jihad with the aid of Allah was the only way to "liberate Kashmir."

"For this goal, a new movement of jihad has been founded by the companions of Wani under the leadership of Zakir Musa," the statement said. The new Al Qaeda cell has been named Ansar Ghawzat-ul-Hind.

Though there have been speculations earlier that Al Qaeda was making inroads in Kashmir, this is the first official confirmation from the terror network about its presence in the state.

Earlier, a 2014 video had called on "brothers in Kashmir" to wage jihad against India.

Though political separatist leaders and militant commanders have been denying a link between Kashmir militancy and jihadi movements like Al Qaeda and Islamic State but Musa, who succeeded Wani after his July 2016 killing, in an April video message made his intentions clear.

Musa asked Kashmiris not to "fall for nationalism" as it was a sin in Islam.

"I see many people in Kashmir are engaged in a war of nationalism, which is forbidden in Islam. The fight in Jammu and Kashmir should not be for the sake of the state. It should be exclusively for Islam so that sharia is established here."

The 23-year-old militant also threatened to kill Hurriyat leaders if they spoke for nationalism and deny that the struggle in Kashmir was for the establishment of strict Islamic code.

The Hizbul Mujahideen, the largest group of local militants, condemned his statement saying they have nothing to do with his Islamist assertions.

Interestingly, Hizbul Mujahideen commander Syed Salahuddin, who is based in Pakistan, released a video statement on Wednesday urging Kashmiris "not to join any global jihadi movement".

"Some of our friends are playing in the hands of our enemy and trying to create divide between people and their leadership. Our movement is an indigenous movement. The freedom movement of Jammu and Kashmir has no worldwide agenda, no links with organizations like Islamic State or Al Qaeda.

"Such organizations have no role in Kashmir," Salahuddin said in a five-minute video clip.
Al Ahram adds:
Musa recently left Kashmire's largest indigenous rebel group, Hizbul Mujahideen, and is believed to have been joined by less than a dozen others.

Previously, no global jihadi groups have openly operated in Kashmire, a territory divided between India and Pakistain but claimed by both.

Iraq
2 ISIS Bombers die in Tikrit
Tikrit (IraqiNews.com) Security forces killed two Islamic State suicide attackers north of Tikrit, Salahuddin, the Interior Ministry said Thursday.

Police forces in Baiji killed the pair at Silo al-Haggag area after they were trapped inside an abandoned house, ministry spokesperson Saad Maan said in a statement.

Islamic State militants have stepped up attacks on security forces, allied paramilitary troops and civilians over the past months across Iraqi provinces, including Salahuddin, coinciding with Iraqi government troops’ operations which managed to oust the group from Mosul, their largest bastion in Iraq.

The eastern side of the town of Shirqat remains Islamic State’s most remarkable holdout in Salahuddin, and it had been the launching point of several attacks.

The Iraqi government plans to invade Islamic State holdouts across Iraq in the near future having concluded its eight-month campaign in Mosul.

Iraqi air force smokes 10 ISIS Bad Guys in Mosul

Tal Afar (IraqiNews.com) Ten Islamic State militants were killed as an airstrike targeted an alternative headquarters, west of Mosul, a local source from Nineveh province said.

“An airstrike targeted an IS alternative headquarters at the outskirts of Tal Afar town, west of Mosul, killing at least ten militants,” the source, who preferred anonymity, told AlSumaria News. “The bodies were taken to the group’s medical centers.”

The source added that the group previously evacuated its main headquarters and moved to alternative ones to avoid airstrikes.

News reports said, earlier this week, that the group carried out emergency evacuations over the night at many of its main headquarters in the town over growing doubts on the people’s cooperation with security services. Other reports indicated huge explosion that occurred at a field clinic, where IS injured militants are treated in the town, which urged the group to block the main roads.

Iraqi Defense Ministry said on Wednesday that a date has been set for the town invasion, however, it will not be declared to maintain the secrecy of the intended operations.

During a weekly press briefing on Tuesday, Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi said a special plan has been drawn to invade Tal Afar.

Col. Ryan Dillon, spokesperson of the U.S.-led coalition against IS, was previously quoted as saying that Tal Afar will be the next target of operations after victory was declared in Mosul.

Tal Afar is one of the important strongholds still held by IS in Nineveh since August 2014.

2 die in bomb attack in Diyala
Diyala (IraqiNews.com) Two women died and three men were wounded Thursday in two consecutive landmine explosions in Diyala province, a security source was quoted saying.

An IED exploded in a tractor driven by a man at a country road in Binikani, Maqdadia region, northeast of Diyala, wounding the driver, Dijlah TV quoted the source saying.

Two men and two women, who happened to be a few meters away from the blasts’ scene, hurried to the rescue before another bomb exploded, killing the two women and wounding the men, according to the source.

Authorities did point to possible perpetrators, but landmines planted by Islamic State militants have killed several civilians and security personnel in Diyala and other provinces over the past months. Many left casualties among civilians fleeing areas under the militants’ control.

Violence and armed conflicts left more than 700 Iraqis dead and wounded during the month of June, according to a monthly count released by the United Nations Assistance Mission in Iraq (UNAMI).

The Iraqi government plans to invade Islamic State holdouts across Iraq, including Diyala, in the near future, having concluded the ousting of the group from their largest stronghold, Mosul, earlier this month.

Anbar Antix

Kop dies in ISIS attack near Fallujah

Anbar (IraqiNews.com) A policeman was killed, while head of police station was injured in a suicide attack, a security source from Anbar police said on Thursday.

“Security troops foiled, early Thursday, a suicide attack against Amiriyat al-Fallujah police station, located in Amiriyat al-Somoud town, south of Fallujah. The bombers were wearing suicide belts and possessing weapons and hand grenades,” the source told AlSumaria News.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, the source added that “troops killed one of the attackers, while the other blew himself up, leaving a policeman killed and head of Amiriyat al-Fallujah police station, Col. Aref al-Janabi, injured.”

Amiriyat al-Somoud town is under control of security troops, backed by the tribes.

Iraqi troops were able to a return life back to normal in the biggest cities of Anbar including Fallujah, Ramadi and others after recapturing them. However, Anbar’s western cities of Annah, Qaim and Rawa are still held by the extremist group since 2014, when it emerged to proclaim a self-styled Islamic Caliphate. There has not been an officially-declared military campaign to free those regions, but the province’s military command launched a brief assault early January that managed to recapture some western villages before stopping again.

Violence in the country has surged further with the emergence of Islamic State Sunni extremist militants.

Government blames bribery for security problems in Anbar

Anbar (IraqiNews.com) Anbar’s local council has blamed recurrent breaches by Islamic State militants of the province’s security on corruption within security bodies besides what it described as the infiltration of paramilitary troops fighting the group alongside the government.

Naeem al-Kaoud, head of the Anbar council’s security committee, told Almaalomah on Thursday that besides the fragile intelligence capabilities in Anbar, the Tribal Mobilization was already infiltrated by Daesh (Islamic State) members.

“There are IS loyalists inside the tribal mobilization, which facilitates security breaches,” Kaoud said, noting that IS militants had been trying to seep again into recaptured areas after their defeat in Mosul.

“Many IS leaders had also been set free by interrogators for huge sums of money,” the official pointed out as another reason for the security violations. He said that insufficient numbers of police personnel was also a factor.

He urged an urgent meeting by security officials to define delinquent security members.

Islamic State has been holding the towns of Annah, Rawa and Qaim in western Anbar, near the borders with Syria, since 2014, when the group occupied a third of Iraq to proclaim an “Islamic Caliphate”. Iraqi government forces had retaken other cities in the province from militants and plans to invade the remaining the havens in the near future.

Kaoud’s statements came a few hours after a suicide attack by IS killed a police official and wounded a lower-ranking officer in Ameriya, Fallujah.

Past statements by some Iraqi MPs and local officials had also talked about IS militants paying bribes to flee detention in Mosul.

Iraqi aircraft drops leaflets heralding freedom from ISIS

DPA (IraqiNews.com) Iraqi warplanes dropped leaflets on Thursday on areas held by the Islamic State near the Syrian and Jordanian borders telling civilians that military offensives to free them were close.

DPA quoted an Iraqi military colonel Yasser Jabbar saying the leaflets were dropped in millions on western Anbar towns of Annah, Rawa and Qaim, telling civilians to not to allow IS militants to lure their sons into fighting on the group’s side.

The messages urged also to steer out of areas held by the group as forces would increase airstrikes targeting those spots, the colonel said. iraqi air forces had adopted the technique throughout earlier military campaigns targeting IS havens.

Islamic State has held the three towns since 2014, when they occupied a third of Iraq to proclaim an “Islamic Caliphate”. So far, there has not been a wide-scale campaign to retake those regions, but occasional offensives managed to take over several surrounding villages.

The Iraqi government declared victory over IS in Mosul, the group’s former capital in Iraq, earlier this month, and said it was going to proceed towards other group holdouts.

Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi and his military commanders said recently that plans were ready for the invasion of the IS stronghold town of Tal Afar, west of Nineveh, which made observers believe it was definitely the next target of operations.

The Ministry of Defense said Wednesday that though the Joint Operations Command gives “special attention” to the liberation of Tal Afar, troops can launch simultaneous operations also targeting IS havens in Kirkuk’s Hawija and the western Anbar towns of Annah and Rawa.

127 Palestinians injured in Al-Aqsa clashes
[AA.TR] At least 127 Paleostinians were maimed in festivities between Israeli forces and Paleostinian worshippers returning to Jerusalem’s al-Aqsa Mosque on Thursday, healthcare workers said Thursday evening.

The injured including 41 injured by rubber bullets, 86 suffering from tear gas inhalation, and at least 15 fractures, the Paleostinian Red Islamic Thingy told Anadolu Agency. Some 21 were transferred to hospitals in Jerusalem, it added.

Moslems’ celebratory return to Jerusalem’s al-Aqsa Mosque turned sour Thursday afternoon when festivities abruptly broke out between Israeli forces and young Paleostinians.

The Paleostinians, jubilant to return after nearly two weeks of protesting new Israeli security measures, entered through the Bab Hutta gate to the holy site, but those already inside began throwing stones after they heard the sound of stun grenades from the pathway up to the gate.

Despite the mosque loudspeakers urging people to retreat and pray, many continued clashing with Israeli forces, a dozen of whom advanced into the compound to disperse the crowds.

Southeast Asia
2 Abu Sayyaf nabbed in Tawi-Tawi
[SUNSTAR.PH] TROOPS of the Joint Task Force Tawi-Tawi have arrested two Abu Sayyaf bandits involved in a series of robbery in Tawi-Tawi, a military official announced on Thursday, July 27.

Brigadier General Custodio Parcon, Jr. , Joint Task Force Tawi-Tawi commander, identified the arrested suspects as Merson Arak Garim and Rustom Garim, both members of the Abu Sayyaf Group, based in Panglima Sugala town.

Parcon said the two suspects were arrested while the Marine Battalion Landing Team (MLBT)-Zamboanga Peninsula (Western Mindanao) troops were on combat operations around 5:30 a. m. , Wednesday, July 26, in the village of Batu-Batu, Panglima Sugala, Tawi-Tawi.

Parcon said the suspects’ arrest came after the residents have reported the presence of seven Abu Sayyaf bandits and the robbery by the group in the village of Batu-Batu. Parcon said the troops seized an M-16 (rifle) loaded with ammunition from the two suspects.

He said the Abu Sayyaf bandits resorted to robbery to sustain themselves, victimizing farmers in far-flung areas like in the village of Balimbing, Panglima Sugala since the marine troops intensified the conduct of seaborne patrols.

On Monday, July 24, the bandits robbed a certain Mansiar, a tenant of a coconut farm and threatened to kill its owner, Reny Flores, a brother of a soldier assigned with the MBLT-Zamboanga Peninsula.

Parcon said records showed the mayor of Panglima Sugala has ordered the Garims to leave the town but they refused and has established a temporary harbor site in the village of Batu-Batu in that municipality.

The Garims were turned over to the custody of the police in Panglima Sugala town. The arrest of the Garims has brought to 72 Abu Sayyaf bandits apprehended by the government troops as of Wednesday in Western Mindanao.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Syrian forces continue advance in Deir Ezzor
[ARA News] The Syrian army forces on Thursday made new gains in the eastern province of Deir ez-Zor after heavy clashes with Islamic State’s (ISIS) fighters.

The pro-Assad troops took over several villages in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor and have reached the strategic al-Sukhna town in the province.

“The army has reached the al-Sukhna suburb in western Deir ez-Zor after bombing major ISIS positions in the area,” local media activist Anwar Abdulbari told ARA News.

Dozens of ISIS militants were reported dead in Thursday’s clashes.

Al-Sukhna is a key defence line for ISIS militants in Deir ez-Zor province, near the border with Iraq.

“ISIS is trying to fortify the central city of Deir ez-Zor from the southwest, using trenches and laying hundreds of landmines to impede the Syrian army progress,” Abdulbari reported.

In the meantime, the ISIS media centre in Raqqa reported that their fighters have carried out three suicide attacks south of the province, targeting Syrian government forces. At least 12 Syrian soldiers were reportedly killed in the attack.

Syrian forces advance in Homs

[AlManar] Syrian army forces are nearing the last major town held by ISIL terrorists in Homs province, a military source said on Thursday.

The source said combat operations would accelerate towards the town of al-Sukhna, some 50 km from the administrative frontier of Deir Ezzor province, where ISIL has redeployed many fighters after losing ground in Syria and Iraq.

“Capturing al-Sukhna means opening the door and path for forces to move to Deir Ezzor directly,” the source told Reuters, adding that the military had captured positions 8 km southwest of the town on Wednesday evening.

ISIL is losing ground fast in Syria to separate campaigns waged by the Russian-backed Syrian government on the one hand, and to U.S.-backed Kurdish forces and their allies on the other.

Army forces, backed by allied forces, have also been advancing against ISIL in Hama province and in southern areas of Raqqa province.

Syrian Army forces have been approaching al-Sukhna gradually since capturing the ancient city of Palmyra, some 50 km away, in March.

“It is natural that combat operations escalate in this direction and take on a stronger and faster nature,” the source said, adding that ISIL had concentrated forces in al-Sukhna.

[AA.TR] Hezbollah and Jabhat Fateh al-Sham
...formerly al-Nusra, the current false nose and mustache of al-Qaeda in the Levant...
gangs have reached a cease-fire deal in the mountainous Leb-Syria border region, according to the official Lebanese news agency Thursday.

"The cease-fire came into effect as of 6 a.m. (0300 GMT) today," National News Agency (NNA) said, adding the deal had been brokered by Leb's General Security Chief Maj. Gen. Abbas Ibrahim.

The agreement over Juroud Arsal town in Syria includes the exit of Jabhat Fateh al-Sham fighters -- known previously as al-Nusra
...formally Jabhat an-Nusrah li-Ahli al-Sham (Support Front for the People of the Levant), also known as al-Qaeda in the Levant. They aim to establish a pan-Arab caliphate. Not the same one as the Islamic State, though .. ...
Front -- in exchange for release of three Hezbollah fighters who were captured while battling alongside Syrian regime forces in the Syrian Tel el-Ais region in 2016, according to a Lebanese official.

According to the same source, the agreement "also includes the Saraya Ahl al-Sham --affiliates the Free Syrian Army
... the more palatable version of the Syrian insurgency, heavily influenced by the Moslem Brüderbund...
(FSA)--, which will go to the town of Ruhaiba in the countryside of Damascus."

The official pointed out that "the deadline for the implementation of the ceasefire agreement will not be open, expecting that it will end by the beginning of next August.

The Jabhat Fateh al-Sham fighters, their families and civilians who wish to join them will leave for northern Syria’s Idlib province, Ibrahim said.

Speaking in a news conference following meeting with Parliament Speaker Nabih Knobby Berri
Speaker of the Lebanese parliament, a member of AMAL, a not very subtle Hizbullah sock puppet...
, the general security chief added the movement of people to Idlib will be carried out under "the supervision of the Lebanese state while the Red Thingy is in charge of logistical issues".

The Beatings Will Continue: Iraqi Edition

ISIS kills 4 Kurds, kidnaps others in Kirkuk

Kirkuk (IraqiNews.com) Islamic State has killed four civilians and kidnapped others as the militants infiltrated into a village of Kakai Kurds, south of Kirkuk, Kurdish security source was quoted saying.

The militants sneaked late on Wednesday into Chechi village in Daquq town and stormed a house there, a source from the Kurdish security forces Asayish told Shafaq News on Thursday.

The militants killed four persons, including two women, and abducted four others from the family living in the same house, the source added.

Islamic State has executed hundreds of civilians and security members since it took over large areas in Iraq to proclaim a self-styled “Islamic Caliphate”. The executions of the victims were mainly blamed over accusations of collaboration with the Iraqi security authorities or for attempting to flee areas under its control.

Kirkuk has a mixed population of Kurds, Turkmens and Arabs. The southern and western regions in the province have been under IS control since June 2014.

IS holds pivotal regions that link between each of Diyala, Salahuddin and Kirkuk, posing threats to the liberated regions.

Several anonymous attacks against IS members have been reported over the past months since Iraqi forces, backed by a U.S.-led coalition, launched a campaign to retake areas occupied by IS militants.

Iraqi kop arrested for helping ISIS

Nineveh (IraqiNews.com) A police officer was arrested on Thursday on charges of smuggling the families of Islamic State (IS) elements from Nineveh governorate to Salahuddin governorate, the Ministry of Interior said.

“The arrest was based on intelligence information as security forces ambushed the police officer on a road lining between Baiji and Tikrit cities while he was smuggling families of the terrorists,” the ministry added in a statement.

The suspect was referred to investigation bodies for questioning and confessed to working with the IS terror group exploiting his position, the statement added.

Since Iraqi forces launched offensives last year to recapture areas held by the Islamic State, occasional news reports emerged quoting local officials and parliamentarians speaking about corrupt security members setting militants free in return for money.

Earlier today. Anbar’s local council blamed recurrent breaches by IS militants of the province’s security on corruption within security bodies besides what it described as the infiltration of paramilitary troops fighting the group alongside the government.

The United Nations had recently warned against “collective punishments” of civilians believed to have links with IS members. Authorities in Mosul had unveiled plans to isolate those families and send them to rehabilitation camps.

ISIS mutilates 23 in Mosul

Nineveh (IraqiNews.com) The Islamic State has cut the ears of 23 of its elements over charges of “cowardice” and leaving the fighting fronts, Alsumaria News reported on Thursday.

A local source told Alsumaria that a judge of the militant group’s so-called sharia court issued a decision to cut the ears of 23 IS elements who fled the battles west of Nineveh governorate, noting that the punished elements were local residents.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, the source added that the group executed the judgment in a court in the town of Tal Afar (55km west of Nineveh). The group cut the upper part of the elements’ ears before taking them to prison.

Tal Afar, held by IS since 2014, has become the group’s most outstanding haven in Nineveh after militants lost their largest bastion, Mosul, to Iraqi forces earlier this month.

Since Iraqi government forces launched offensives to retake areas held by IS in 2014, the group has reportedly imposed various punishments on members whom they believed were delinquent on the battlefield.

Earlier this month, the Iraqi government declared victory over IS in Mosul, ending nearly nine months of battles, and said recently that Tal Afar would be the next target.
