Puntland State TV director targeted in Shaboob ambush
BOSASO, Puntland -- Amidst worsening security situation in Bari region of northeastern Somalia, suspected Al Shabaab militants ambushed a vehicle carrying the newly appointed Director of Puntland Television and Radio Agency Abdifatah Nuur Qodah Ashkir along Garowe-Bossaso highway on Tuesday, Garowe Online reports.

According to independent sources, landmine explosion firstly triggered plumes of black smoke nearby while he was driving Meer-Meerka escarpment and fallow-up bullets were sprayed with the car enroute to Bossaso port city.

Ashkir escaped unhurt and safely arrived in Bossaso on Tuesday afternoon, well informed sources stated.

Terror attacks on Garowe-Bossaso highway by Al Qaeda linked Al Shabaab fighters have been proliferating at an alarming rate over the last few months.

US Drone Attack On Al Shabaab Senior Leaders
[IsraelTimes] US military forces attacked the Islamic krazed killer al-Shabaab
... the Islamic version of the old Somali warlord...
network in an operation in Somalia on Monday, the Pentagon said, in a strike a Somali official said targeted the group's runaway leader.

Pentagon front man Rear Adm. John Kirby said the US was assessing the results and would provide more information when appropriate. No further details were available.

A senior Somali intelligence official said a US drone targeted al-Shabaab leader Ahmed Abdi Godane as he left a meeting of the group's top leaders. Godane, also known as Mukhtar Abu Zubeyr, is the group's spiritual leader under whose direction the Somali turbans forged an alliance with al-Qaeda.

The Somali official, speaking on condition of anonymity
... for fear of being murdered...
since he was not authorized to speak to the media, said intelligence indicated Godane "might have been killed along with other Death Eaters." The official said the attack took place in a forest near Sablale district, 105 miles (170 kilometers) south of Mogadishu, where al-Shabaab trains its fighters.

The governor of Somalia's Lower Shabelle region, Abdiqadir Mohammed Nor, told The News Agency that Dare Not be Named that as government and African Union
...a union consisting of 53 African states, most run by dictators of one flavor or another. The only all-African state not in the AU is Morocco. Established in 2002, the AU is the successor to the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), which was even less successful...
forces were heading to a town in Sablale district, they heard what sounded like an "earthquake" as drones struck al-Shabaab bases. "There was an Arclight airstrike near Sablale. We saw something," Nor said.

The US has carried out several Arclight airstrikes in Somalia recent years.

A US missile strike in January killed a high-ranking intelligence officer for al-Shabaab, and last October a vehicle carrying senior members of the group was hit in a US strike that killed al-Shabaab's top explosives expert.

The latest US action comes after Somalia's government forces regained control of a high-security prison in the capital that was attacked on Sunday by seven heavily armed suspected Islamic turbans who attempted to free other holy warriors held there. The Pentagon statement did not indicate whether the U.S. action was related to the prison attack.

Somali officials said all the seven attackers, three government soldiers and two non-combatants were killed. Mogadishu's Godka Jilacow prison is an interrogation center for Somalia's intelligence agency, and many suspected turbans are believed to be held in underground cells there.

Al-Shabaab grabbed credit for the attack that shattered a period of calm in Mogadishu after two decades of chaotic violence. The attack started when a suicide boom-mobileer detonated an explosives-laden vehicle at the gate of the prison, followed by gunnies who fought their way into the prison.

It was al-Shabaab gunnies who attacked the upscale Westgate Mall in Nairobi, Kenya, with guns and grenades last September, killing at least 67 people. Al-Shabaab had threatened retaliation against Kenya for sending troops into Somalia against the krazed killers. Godane said the attack was carried out in retaliation for the West's support for Kenya's Somalia intervention and the "interest of their oil companies."

Al-Shabaab is now mostly active in Somalia's rural regions, after being ousted from the capital by African Union forces in 2011. But the group is still able to launch lethal attacks -- often involving turbans on suicide missions -- within Mogadishu, the seat of government.

Somali military officials last week launched a military operation to oust al-Shabaab from its last remaining bases in the southern parts of Somalia. However,
by candlelight every wench is handsome...
on Saturday the town of Bulomarer, which is about 110 kilometers (70 miles) south of Mogadishu, was seized from turbans after hours of fighting.

#1  Ahmed Abdi Godane: Somali terror leader behind Kenya shopping mall massacre. The US state department lists Godane as one of the world’s eight top terror fugitives, with a US$7-million reward for information on him, the third-highest level of bounty offered by Washington. Godane’s leadership has seen Al Shabab gunmen carrying out high profile attacks, both at home in Somalia as well as Djibouti, Kenya and Uganda – all contributing nations to the African Union force who are fighting the jiahadists.

Godane, 37, who reportedly trained in Afghanistan with the Taliban, took over the leadership of the Shebab in 2008 after then chief Adan Hashi Ayro was killed by a US missile strike.

48 hour rule and take everything from a Somali official with a grain of salt, but still...

A senior Somali security official echoed the comment. "We believe that the Shebab leader is dead, though we don't have his body. Most probably he is dead," said the official, who also spoke on condition of anonymity.

Airlines go missing from Tripoli International Airport
According to NewsMax:
Jihadists have stolen several commercial jetliners in Libya, raising concerns with intelligence officials about 9/11-style terror strikes as the 13th anniversary approaches, several news reports say.

The Algerian news site al-Fadjr on Aug. 6 said 11 aircraft went missing from Tripoli International Airport during fighting between militias, IHS Jane's 360 reports, but says the Algerian report was "probably not credible."

Subsequently, Mohamed Frikha, CEO of the Tunisian airline company Syphax, told Tunisia's Shems FM that two Airbus-A320 aircraft belonging to Libyan company Ifriqiya were missing from Misratah, Jane's reports.

#3  Might not be a good time to book that late summer trip to Paris, Frankfurt, or London. And what about discovery, and the potential shooting down of civilian airliners as a preventative measure?
Terror at an entirely new level.

The current media frenzy over airline seat reclining wars may soon be the least of our worries.
Posted by: Besoeker || 09/03/2014 3:44 Comments || Top||

#4  Is this report credible? To steal these aircraft, trained pilots would need to be found. Some place to stow these aircraft without being found would have to be located. Fuel would have to be available. The aircraft would have to be maintained. Transponders would have to be turned off and the aircraft go dark. Should the aircraft take-off from any location, it would likely show up on radar. If not properly identified, it might get shot down.

All that said, Malaysian 370 is still missing. Radicalized pilots can probably be found. Fuel is likely available. Transponders can be disabled. I can see a scenario where the jihadists could load a bunch of hostages on a plane with a jihadi-bent pilot and crash it into some target, somewhere--probably Europe.

Missing aircraft in jihadi territory is always a concern. These a$$holes, like dogs, tend to return to the same old fire hydrants to pi$$ on them (WTCs). Apologies to dogs everywhere. Park an aircraft carrier in the Mediterranean--create a no-fly zone. Take down anything that appears in this NF zone.

#9  who is to say the Malaysian flight was not the test run for turning a commercial airline into a drone?
Posted by: airandee || 09/03/2014 10:34 Comments || Top||

#10  i agree that missing malaysian airlines flight was likely a test for something

i think test for suitcase nuke that vaporised it over the sea leaving no debris

but realistically modern flights are very controlled they all have to log flight plans and the transponders report the jets position

if terrorists flew a jet anywhere, air traffic controllers would soon know that it was an unidentified jet with no flight plan. Simple to shoot it down. no passengers need worry
Posted by: anon1 || 09/03/2014 12:25 Comments || Top||

#11  I think a suitcase nuke is a stretch. If you have a suitcase why need a jetliner. Just walk across the southern border. Probably much easier as you won't have to deal with radar or pesky air traffic controllers.

In fact Obama may even give you a free ride to LA or some other large American city. No questions asked.

#12  A nuclear explosion of any size anywhere in the world will be detected. We, the other major western powers, the Russians and the Chinese have a plethora of detectors designed to do just that.

#13  I think the ones that were not flyable were cut up for the metal. Of the flyable ones opportunists more than likely stole them and are parting them out on the market in Europe, Iran or Africa. It is too easy to hijack a plane and very expensive to operate one. With that said, UBL wanted to detonate 11 plane simultaneously but it proved to be too complicated to pull off.
Posted by: 49 Pan || 09/03/2014 13:00 Comments || Top||

#14  Even if they got the planes to a secret volcano base somewhere and fueled them up and had pilots standing buy there are still transponder codes and such that would give them away pretty quick before they came near any 1st world nation.

The bad guys better do a pretty nifty paint job on the planes to fool the combat aircraft ready to shoot them down. House paint won't do.

Much a doo about looting.

Operation Dignity jet crashes during Tobruk flyover
[Libya Herald] An Operation Dignity jet has crashed, killing its pilot and others, during a flyover at Tobruk Air Base.

In a cruel twist of fate, the plane crashed during a memorial ceremony for another pilot who died when his plane crashed, killing him, just four days ago. Both crashes are believed to be the result of technical failures.

An Air Force officer at Tobruk airbase told the Libya Herald that the Mig jet crashed into a building as a result of the fault. There are a reports that a young boy was also killed by the impact. It is not known if this is the full extent of the casualties.

The pilot killed int the accident this afternoon has been identified as Rafa Al-Farani. Farani was in his fifties and lived in Tobruk with his family. He was originally from Benghazi.

The crash took place during a service of remembrance for Air Force officer Ibrahim Al-Manifi who died on Saturday when his aircraft suffered a technical fault over Beida while flying from Tobruk to Benghazi.

In July a Mig jet fighter being used by the Operation Dignity crashed into waste ground in Kuwaifiya in Benghazi. However,
a poor excuse is better than no excuse at all...
no one was hurt after the the pilot was able to eject safely. Operation Dignity said at the time the crash was due to a technical problem although Ansar al-Sharia

11 policemen killed in Sinai attack
Eleven Egyptian policemen were killed when a roadside bomb blast struck their armoured vehicle in the restive Sinai Peninsula on Tuesday, security officials said. An officer and 10 conscripts were killed in the attack that took place on a road leading to the town of Rafah bordering the Palestinian Gaza Strip. Four conscripts were wounded.

Egypt's military has sought to quell the militants in a massive operation that has killed scores of extremists and netted some of their leaders.

The main militant group, Ansar Beit Al Maqdis, has acknowledged the loss of some of its leaders, but has continued to attack both the security forces and Bedouin suspected of collaborating with them. The group, whose name means Partisans of Jerusalem, has also said it was behind deadly bombings of police buildings in the capital and the Nile Delta.

It says it wants to implement Islamic law and that it attacks security forces to avenge the killings of pro-Mursi protesters by the military and police following Mursi's ouster.

Ansar Beit Al Maqdis, which has also fired rockets at neighbouring Israel, released a video last month claiming responsibility for beheading men it accused of working with the Jewish state. In another video, a militant thought to be the group...™s spiritual leader, Abu Osama Al Masri, supplicated God for victory for what he called his “brothers” in ISIS in Iraq and Syria.

Attacks in Egypt by the militants have eased over the past month as the military squeezes their hideouts in the sparsely inhabited peninsula.

In July, at least 12 people, including four children, were killed in north Sinai when militant rockets aimed at security forces misfired in two separate attacks.

Boko Haram seize Bama town in Borno
Nigeria's militant Islamist group Boko Haram has seized the key north-eastern town of Bama after fierce fighting with government forces, residents say. Thousands of civilians have fled the town, along with soldiers, they added.

The military has not yet officially commented on the claim that it has lost control of Bama, the second biggest town in Borno state.

Last month, Boko Haram said it had established an Islamic state in areas it controls in north-eastern Nigeria.

If confirmed, the capture of Bama would be an extremely significant development and would raise concerns that Boko Haram's next target will be Maiduguri, the state capital about 70km (45 miles) away, says BBC Hausa service editor Mansur Liman in the capital, Abuja. It would be the biggest town under Boko Haram control.

Residents told BBC Hausa that Boko Haram captured Bama after heavy fighting on Sunday and Monday.

The military had initially repelled Boko Haram's assault, but the group returned with reinforcements to seize the town, the residents said. The militants, who travelled in armoured trucks, first took control of the military barracks, they added.

Soldiers and residents fled on foot, many of them walking all the way to Maiduguri, residents told the BBC.

Several security sources said Boko Haram had over-run much of Bama and there were heavy casualties on both sides, Reuters news agency reports. About 70 militants had been killed, the Associated Press quoted security sources as saying.

On Monday, the military said on its Twitter account that the air force had been used to "repel and dislodge" Boko Haram from Bama.

Reports: 30 Libyans Arrested in UAE
[AnNahar] Pro-Islamist Libyan media on Monday reported that some 30 Libyans were tossed in the calaboose
Maw! They're comin' to get me, Maw!
in the United Arab Emirates following air raids which U.S. officials said were carried out last month by the UAE against Islamist targets in Libya.

Media, including television channel An-Nabaa, said among those arrested were businessmen with long-standing ties to the UAE, including some from Misrata.

It was unclear why they were being held, the reports said, but the oil-rich Gulf monarchy looks upon Islamist forces of Evil in the region as a serious threat and last month toughened its anti-terrorism laws.

Libya has been sliding into chaos since Muammar Qadaffy

was tossed and killed three years ago, with interim authorities confronting powerful militias which fought to oust the veteran dictator.

Saudis arrest 88 for being part of Al Qaeda cell
A top Saudi security official said on Tuesday that police had arrested 88 men suspected of being part of an Al Qaeda cell that was plotting attacks inside and outside of the kingdom.

Interior Ministry spokesman Mansour Al Turki did not give any details about the alleged plots, but said 59 of those arrested had previously served prison sentences for similar offences. Al Turki said that Saudi security forces monitored the group for months and learned about their plans. He said the arrests were made over the past several days and that Saudi forces “are serious in tracking down” anyone who joins a terrorist group.

“It is unfortunate that some of those who had completed their sentences and were released by court orders returned to their previous ways,” Al Turki said.

The police said that three of the men are Yemeni nationals, one is still being identified and the rest are Saudis.

A ministry statement carried by the official Saudi Press Agency said the ministry had been following a number of suspects in view of what it called the spread of “strife and sick ideas” that lured members of the community “to places of strife”.

The announcement comes amid the advance of the ISIS extremist group in Iraq and Syria, which has prompted Saudi Arabia to take harsher measures against sympathisers who could threaten the kingdom's stability. The kingdom made it illegal this year for its citizens to fight as militants abroad.

Vandals Deface Three Indiana Christian Churches With Islamic Graffiti
[BREITBART] Sometime on Saturday night, vandals attacked three Christian houses of worship in Columbus, Indiana, spray-painting the word "infidels" and citations of verses from the Koran on the outer walls.

"Is there somebody that really believes this, that we're all infidels, so they felt the need to write it all over our church? Is this some sort of a nasty prank? Is this someone that's trying to incite people against Moslems? I mean, I don't know."
St. Bartholomew Catholic Church, Lakeview Church of Christ, and East Columbus Christian Church all had the word "infidels" spray-painted on them, in places of prominence to be seen by worshipers.

Cited in the Indianapolis Star, Columbus police spokesperson Matt Harris said that church employees discovered the vandalism when they arrived to prepare for Sunday services.

At St. Bartholomew, the words "Qur'an 3:151" were also left.

That verse reads:
We will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieve for what they have associated with Allah of which He had not sent down [any] authority. And their refuge will be the Fire, and wretched is the residence of the wrongdoers.
Speaking to WTHR, Channel 13, the Columbus NBC affiliate, associate pastor Father Doug Marcotte said, "It is certainly not a warm and fuzzy verse. It talks about the infidels, their refuge being the fire."

There was no Koran verse painted on the Lakeview Church but "Qu'ran 19:88" was left on East Columbus Christian Church.

That verse begins a phrase, which, in its entirety (19:88 to 93), says:
None will have the power of intercession save he who has received a promise from the Gracious God. And they say, "The Gracious God has taken unto Himself a son." Assuredly, you have done a most monstrous thing. The heavens might well-nigh burst thereat, and the earth cleave asunder, and the mountains fall down in pieces. Because they ascribe a son to the Gracious God. Whereas it becomes not the Gracious God to take unto Himself a son.
Said Father Marcotte, "Is there somebody that really believes this, that we're all infidels, so they felt the need to write it all over our church? Is this some sort of a nasty prank? Is this someone that's trying to incite people against Moslems? I mean, I don't know."

Quoted by Fox59.com, Columbus resident Nassim Khaled, who volunteers at the local Islamic Center, said, "We condemn this, and I read the verse, most importantly what it showed me is the ignorance, who actually misquoted or misinterpreted the Koran."

According to WTHR, Columbus police wouldn't comment on whether federal authorities had been contacted, but at least one of the churches has surveillance video that may offer clues.

#6  Pappy, I know some Muslims here who would offer to go clean churches defaced that way. I suspect the offer would be declined, but the offer would be honest. Islam has its good and bad adherants, same as Christianity - though the proportions are a lot different and the bad are a lot worse (and the 'good' Muslims are probably bad in the eyes of their leadership.)

India-Pakistan
Rebels Killed in Indian Kashmir Gun Battle
[AnNahar] Government forces in Indian Kashmire killed three suspected rebels Tuesday during a lengthy shootout, police said, in the latest flare-up ahead of tense local elections later this year.

Soldiers cordoned off a house in Hanjan village, some 40 kilometers (25 miles) south of the main city of Srinagar, on Monday evening after receiving a tip-off that gunnies were inside, a police officer told AFP.

The rebels then opened fire, sparking armed exchanges which went on till early morning, the officer, who was not authorized to speak to the media, told AFP.

"All the three gunnies died during the shootout," he added.

Another police officer, Vijay Kumar, told news hounds that all three of the victims were local men.

Kashmire is divided between India and Pakistain, with both partially administering it separately, since the two nations won independence from Britannia in 1947.

The nuclear-armed South Asian rivals claim the disputed Himalayan territory in full.

Since 1989 fighting between about a dozen rebels groups, who seek independence or a merger of the territory with Pakistain, and Indian forces has left tens of thousands, mostly civilians dead.

The latest fighting happened after multiple festivities between suspected rebels and government forces last week left five of them and three soldiers dead in the north of the disputed territory near the de facto border with Pakistain known as the Line of Control or LoC.

A report Sunday in a local daily Greater Kashmire, quoting an unnamed federal interior ministry official in New Delhi, said 60 gunnies have "infiltrated" this year into Indian Kashmire from across the LoC.

The official said the government forces were cautioned about a "likely spurt in Lion of Islam actions in the coming months" as the territory is gearing up for state elections expected in November or December.

Iraq
Iraq Forces Advance North From Amerli
[AnNahar] Iraqi forces regained control on Tuesday of part of a key highway linking Baghdad to the north where Amnesia Amnesty International said jihadists had carried out a wave of ethnic cleansing.

Iraqi troops backed by militia have been pushing north after breaking a months-long jihadist siege by Islamic State fighters of the Shiite Turkmen town of Amerli.

The breakthrough at Amerli on Sunday was the biggest success for the Iraqi government since the army's collapse across much of northern and north-central Iraq in June.

On Monday, troops and Shiite Death Eaters retook Sulaiman Bek and Yankaja, two towns north of Amerli that had been important krazed killer strongholds.

On Tuesday, troops regained control of a stretch of the main highway to the north which had been closed by the miliants for almost three months, Army Staff Lieutenant General Abdulamir al-Zaidi said.

A senior militia commander said it would be be several days before the road reopened as sappers needed to clear it of mines and booby-traps planted by the retreating krazed killers.

The United States carried out limited air strikes in the area during the Amerli operation, the first time it has expanded its more than three-week air campaign against IS outside the north.

A senior U.N. human rights
When they're defined by the state or an NGO they don't mean much...
official said the jihadist group had carried out "acts of inhumanity on an unimaginable scale," since it swept through much of the Sunni Arab heartland north of Baghdad in June and then stormed minority Christian and Yazidi Kurdish areas last month.

Amnesia Amnesty International accused the jihadists of "war crimes, including mass summary killings and abductions".

"The massacres and abductions being carried out by the Islamic State provide harrowing new evidence that a wave of ethnic cleansing against minorities is sweeping across northern Iraq," said its senior crisis response adviser Donatella Rovera.

IS has carried out beheadings, crucifixions and public stonings in areas under its control in Iraq and neighbouring northeastern Syria, where it has declared an Islamic "caliphate."

Obama notifies Congress of airstrikes in Iraq
President Barack Obama has sent official notification to Congress of his order for last week's airstrikes and humanitarian aid drops to help Iraqis threatened by ISIS militants.
Thus meeting the terms of the War Powers Act.
The White House on Monday released a letter formally letting Congress' leaders know that Obama approved the mission that repelled militants in the northern town of Amirli and dropped food, water and medical supplies for civilians.

Such notifications are required by law and are considered a formality.

The United States has conducted airstrikes in northern Iraq to halt the advance of ISIS fighters. It is also considering extending its air campaign into Syria.

Meanwhile, the US Central Command said that American military forces continued to attack militant targets, using fighter and attack aircraft to conduct three airstrikes Sunday and Monday near Mosul Dam. It said the strikes destroyed three trucks, severely damaged another, destroyed an armed vehicle and took out a mortar position near the dam. The Central Command said all aircraft exited the strike area safely.

#1  Just as it failed to defeat the Taliban in Afghanistan, the exploitation of so-called social networks and the striking of High Value Targets (HVT) by itself [as opposed to killing them all] will not defeat ISIS. Of course if one has no intention of totally defeating the adversary, drone zapping provides an excellent medium for the appearance of meaningful activity and incremental success.

The tactic of hitting HTV's and media releases of of drone full motion video (FMV) 'hits and near misses' is in itself quite revealing. It tells us that a great deal of intelligence effort has already gone into target development of the ISIS network. Of course the previous detainment [and release] of senior leadership at GITMO certainly provides a head start.

Again, validated and prioritized HTV's are not plucked from thin air. The building of social networks and kinetic target folders is time consuming, difficult, and laborious. Someone or a large group of someone's has been very busy for quite some time. The notion that ISIS came into being overnight from someone striking a rod against a rock is as ridiculous as the theatrical tactics currently employed against them.

Our combat losses, and those who have suffered and lost their heads as a result of our various 'catch and release' progrommes.... well, such is the cost of a theater of the absurd. The political appearance of doing something at the 'eaches level' while clandestinely supporting the larger Islamic goal must continue. The ISIS moderates will eventually surface and the process of diplomatic settlement can then begin in earnest. It is, as we have been told, "a difficult and messy business."

Yeah, this meme is getting threadbare. Our intelligence agencies must cringe whenever this clown gets out there and makes inane, feckless statements.

The costs to these misfits, rejects, and psychos who contemplate joining up with ISIS to find meaning in their pitiful, pathetic lives is going to have to be made very dear to them (such as assured death). Enough of the happy appeasement talk of "management of the problem". Like rabid dogs, ISIS will have to be destroyed and a message sent to jihadist wannabees everywhere.

Terror Suspects Caught, Manhunt Lifted In Sharon Region
[IsraelTimes] Police called off a massive manhunt for suspected Lions of Islam in the Netanya area on Tuesday afternoon after the suspects they were seeking were located and taken into custody.

Large parts of the Sharon area, especially near Kfar Yona and Netanya, had been at a standstill for two hours on Tuesday midday after police received "hot" intelligence information indicating that Paleostinian Lions of Islam may have entered Israel in the Kfar Yona area.

Two suspects were reportedly incarcerated

after allegedly fleeing from police roadblocks to the Arab Israeli town of Taibe. Police caught up to them in Taibe shortly before 1 p.m. and arrested them without incident. The men were carrying firearms, police said.

The suspects have not been identified, nor is there immediate information about the suspicions against them.

The area had been on virtual lockdown since about 11 a.m. Police had deployed roadblocks, particularly along Road 57, the east-west highway leading from Netanya to the West Bank city of Tulkarem. For two hours, police searched every car headed east, particularly in the direction of Taibe and Kalanswa south of the highway, and had temporarily closed the Tnuvot Junction east of Kfar Yona to eastward traffic.

Sharon District police oversaw the search from a hastily-established field command center, and deployed protective roadblocks at the entrances of towns and villages.

After 12:30, police roadblocks were being reported farther south, in the Glilot area south of Herzliya and along the highways entering Tel Aviv from the north.

At least one helicopter and elite police units also participated in the search for the reported infiltrators, reportedly operating in the agricultural fields outside several local villages.

Massive traffic jams are still being reported in the area, despite the lifting of the roadblocks.

"We are treating this [intelligence] alert very seriously, so we have deployed a large number of forces in the field," a police official told the Walla news site at the start of the manhunt.

Local authorities had ordered schools to "remain on alert and vigilant," Emek Hefer Regional Council head Rani Eden told Israel Radio. Schools were instructed to keep kids in class, school gates were ordered closed, and Border Patrol troops were deployed to stand outside schools throughout the region.

"We know there's a very high alert. We've told schools to prepare," Eden said.

"Be vigilant," Kfar Yona mayor Efraim Deri urged residents. "We've increased our own presence," he said of the city's security department. "We have security guards in all schools and part of the preschools and kindergartens. We've pretty much covered everything."

Syrian rebels issue demands for captive UN troops
[ARABNEWS] Al-Qaeda-linked Syrian rebels holding 45 Fijian peacekeepers hostage have issued a set of demands for their release, including the murderous Moslem group's removal from a UN terrorist list and compensation for the killing of three of its fighters in a shootout with international troops, an official said Tuesday.

The Nusra Front seized the Fijians on Thursday in the Golan Heights, where a 1,200-strong UN force monitors the buffer zone between Syria and Israel. The rebels also surrounded two Filipino units, but those UN troops escaped over the weekend.

Speaking in the Fijian capital of Suva, military commander Brig. Gen. Mosese Tikoitoga said the Nusra Front has made three demands for the peacekeepers' release: to be taken off the UN terrorist list; the delivery of humanitarian aid to parts of the Syrian capital of Damascus; and payment for three of its fighters it says were killed in a shootout with UN officers.

Tikoitoga did not say whether the rebels' demands would be seriously considered. He said the UN had sent hostage negotiators to Syria to take over discussions from military leaders.

"Negotiations have moved up to another level with the professional negotiators now in place," he said.

Tikoitoga also released the names of the 45 detained soldiers, who he said are led by Captain Savenaca Siwatibau Rabuka. He asked Fiji's community and church leaders to help look after the families of the captive troops and asked the public to also offer support.

"I appeal to all Fijians that while we pray for our soldiers in Syria that we be sensitive to the families," he said, adding "the UN has assured us they will use all of their available resources for the safe return of our soldiers."

Syrian rebels, including Nusra Front krazed killers, seized a border crossing with Israel on the Syrian side of the Golan Heights on Wednesday. The area has been engulfed in heavy fighting between the opposition fighters and Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Oppressor of the Syrians and the Lebs...
's forces since then.

In Manila, Philippines, military chief of staff Gen. Gregorio Pio Catapang said the 40 Filipino peacekeepers who escaped had not accepted a rebel demand that they give up their firearms and surrender because that would have put the troops in grave danger.

Catapang said the rebel demands for the Fijians' release showed their true nature.

"We don't negotiate with terrorists," he said. "We have machine guns and crew-served weapons so if we give them our weapons, this will help create an international problem."

The Nusra Front, in a statement posted online Sunday, accused the UN of doing nothing to help the Syrian people since the uprising against President Bashir al-Assad began in March 2011. It said it seized the Fijians in retaliation for the UN's ignoring "the daily shedding of the Moslems' blood in Syria."

Army Engages in Overnight Battles with Gunmen on Outskirts of Arsal
[AnNahar] Intense clashes erupted between the Lebanese army and gunmen on the outskirts of the northeastern border town of Arsal overnight Monday.

The state-run National News Agency said that rocket fire could be heard in Lebanon's Eastern Mountain Range, in particular, in the Sweid valley.

The gunbattles had reportedly remained for 15 minutes.

Media reports said that Syrian warplanes carried out two air raids on the outskirts of the Bekaa village, targeting gunmen.

There were no immediate reports on the number of casualties.

Several soldiers and policemen were taken captive by Islamist gunmen who overran Arsal on August 2.

Arsal lies 12 kilometers from the border with Syria and its inhabitants are overwhelmingly sympathetic to the Sunni-dominated uprising against Syrian President Bashar Assad's regime and is widely suspected of smuggling weapons and fighters across the border.

Exodus from Hasakeh as Syria Hunts IS Jihadists
[AnNahar] Raids by Syrian forces hunting suspected Islamic State infiltrators in the northeast town of Hasakeh have sparked an exodus of more than 60,000 civilians in three days, a monitor said Monday.

Hasakeh is split between zones controlled by Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Supressor of the Damascenes...
's forces, Kurdish groups and Death Eaters from the radical IS group, which is sowing terror in both Syria and neighboring Iraq.

"No fewer than 60,000 residents have fled Hasakeh's Ghuiran district since Friday, after air raids by regime forces," the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.

"The regime claims there are IS fighters in the neighborhood, and that's why they are bombarding it," its chief Rami Abdel Rahman said.

"At least 90 percent of the area has been emptied of its inhabitants," he added.

Since July, regime forces and the IS have clashed after the jihadists attacked army bases in northern Syria.

The army has also stepped up raids targeting IS positions in the north and east, where the jihadist group notorious for its brutality is dominant.

Other rebel groups that have been battling Assad's regime for more than three years -- in a conflict the U.N. says has killed at least 191,000 people -- are also fighting the IS bully boys, accusing them of stealing their "revolution."
