Afghanistan
Afghan, US forces destroy al-Qaeda training sites in Kandahar
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] Afghan and U.S forces jointly destroyed the training sites of al-Qaeda in Shorabak District of southern Kandahar province.

After months of intelligence gathering and planning, the operation began in the evening hours of Oct. 7 and ended on Oct 11 in which U.S. carried out 63 precision Arclight airstrikes while Afghan forces engaged in several battles on the ground against al-Qaeda networks at two related sites.

"This is one of the largest joint ground-assault operations we have ever conducted in Afghanistan," said Brig. Gen. Wilson Shoffner, a U.S. spokesperson in Afghanistan. "We struck a major al-Qaeda sanctuary in the center of the Taliban's historic heartland. This significant operation is a testament to the professionalism and expertise of our Afghan partners and demonstrates the growing capability of the Afghan cops."

The assault team was comprised of more than 200 Afghan and U.S. servicemembers who navigated through difficult terrain and cleared two targeted areas. The first site, a well-established training camp, spanned approximately one square mile. The second site covered nearly 30 square miles.

"The goal of the operation was to degrade the terrorist network in Afghanistan," Shoffner said. "Aside from validating the accuracy of our intelligence, we were able to seize a large amount of data and weapons. Based on the digital media equipment collected from the site, it also appears that this was the location of a large media cell."

Initial reports state that heavy weapons, IED-making material and other valuable intelligence data including foreign passports, laptops and associated IT media, digital cameras and cards, documents, and mobile phones were recovered. Additionally, forces seized anti-aircraft weapons; rocket-propelled grenade systems with associated hardware and warheads; machine guns, pistols, rifles and ammunition.

"The enormous success of this operation validates our ongoing campaign. Working with, by, and through our Afghan partners, we're building their capabilities while we fight our common enemies," said Gen. John F. Campbell, Commander for U.S. Forces in Afghanistan. "That's why our strategic partnership here is so important. We continue to protect our fellow Americans at home by fighting al-Qaeda here. I couldn't be prouder of our brave U.S. servicemen and women and their Afghan counterparts. It's because of their extraordinary efforts that faceless myrmidons here haven't been able to attack our homeland in over 14 years."

General Dawlat Waziri, a front man for the Ministry of Defense told a presser on Monday that 234 snuffies were killed Shorabak operation.

Kunduz City Cleared of Insurgents, Forces Moving Forward: Officials
[Tolo News] Quasim Jangal Bagh, the northern Kunduz Police Chief, said on Tuesday that all parts of Kunduz city have been cleared of turbans and the security forces continue to push forward.

Jangal Bagh said that clearing operations still continue on the Takhar --Kunduz highway and in the Dasht-e-Archi district of Kunduz. In addition, five turbans were killed in operations on Tuesday night in the Sher Khan Bander area in Kunduz city.

The local officials said that clearing operations continue in Dasht-e-Archi -- a district in Kunduz province which is currently under the control of the Taliban.

Officials said that military operations also continue in Khaja Ghar district of Takhar.

A policeman was however killed and four others injured during the operation on Monday after their vehicle struck a roadside mine.

Mohammad Omar, District Governor of Khaja Ghar said: "The security forces are moving forward in Khaja Ghar district towards Dasht-e-Archi district of Kunduz."

He says that the turbans have sustained massive casualties in the operation and one of their commanders named Hanzala was also among the dead. He said many Taliban members escaped the area.

TOLOnews journalist Karim Amini reported early Tuesday that the situation is back to normal in Kunduz city and said it was "like it was two weeks ago". He said "most of the people have come out into the city and are going back to work."

On Monday, the Afghan acting defense minister Masoom Stanekzai said that al-Qaeda, Lashkar-e-Taiba
...the Army of the Pure, an Ahl-e-Hadith terror organization founded by Hafiz Saeed. LeT masquerades behind the Jamaat-ud-Dawa facade within Pakistain and periodically blows things up and kills people in India. Despite the fact that it is banned, always an interesting concept in Pakistain, the organization remains an blatant tool and perhaps an arm of the ISI...
(LeT) and other foreign holy warrior groups were involved in the Kunduz attack after Pakistain launched a military operation to oust them from the tribal areas of northern Wazoo.

Pakistain launched a large-scale joint operation called "Zarb-e-Azb
..the Pak offensive against Qaeda in Pakistain and the Pak Taliban in North Wazoo. The name refers to the sword of the Prophet (PTUI!)...
" in mid June 2014 which Pak officials said was aimed at eliminating holy warrior groups from northern Waziristan, which is along the Afghanistan-Pakistain border.

The operation however evoked widespread criticism from Afghanistan after hundreds of bully boyz reportedly fled to Afghanistan.

Stanekzai told a media briefing Monday that foreign holy warriors, including those who fled Waziristan were behind the Kunduz attack, which led to the northern city's collapse to the Taliban two weeks ago.

Forces Heading to Taliban Key Hideout in Kunduz
[Tolo News] Security officials in Kunduz said early Tuesday that the forces have been able to get to Chahardara district to conduct a large-scale offensive against the murderous Moslems.

Ahmad Habibi, commander of 209th Army Shaheen Corps, said the main hideout of the Taliban in Chahardara will be eliminated soon.

"Our clearance operation is continuing based on our plan. We have reached Chahardara now and we will continue moving forward," he said.

However the residents who had fled Kunduz city are returning back to their homes.

"The situation is good now but the fighting has extensively affected us. We lost everything we had and now we have no money," a resident of Kunduz named Abdul Halim told TOLOnews news hound Wali Arian.

They praised the security forces for driving the hard boyz out of the city.

The hard boyz are reportedly hiding now in Chahardara district after being pushed back from Kunduz city -- which they seized about two weeks ago.

According to the officials, the hard boyz are now using Chahardara as their main hideout and their training base is also located there.

"The main hideout of the Taliban is in Chahardara, and the police forces and army troops are going to Chahardara to destroy them," a police commander Safiullah Safi said.

Gunmen release dozens of Tunisian workers held in Libya
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] A group of Tunisian workers who were kidnapped by gunnies in northwestern Libya earlier on Tuesday, have been released according to an official statement by the Tunisian foreign ministry.

Earlier on Tuesday gunnies had kidnapped dozens of Tunisians in northwestern Libya, demanding the release of a local Libyan official tossed in the calaboose
Don't shoot, coppers! I'm comin' out!
in Tunisia this week, according to families and locals sources said on Tuesday.

But according to sources Tunisian authorities released the Libyan activist, which led to the return of the hostages, who have since returned home.

The kidnapping happened when an official from Sabratha, a coastal town between Libya's capital Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
and the Tunisian border, was arrested along with another Libyan at Tunis airport on Saturday, Sabratha's municipal council said.

The two had flown to Tunis on a visit organized by United Nations
...an organization originally established to war on dictatorships which was promptly infiltrated by dictatorships and is now held in thrall to dictatorships...
, the council said.

At the time of the kidnapping the daughter of one of the detained Tunisians told local radio: "Gunmen kidnapped my father... We talked with the kidnappers over the phone and told us they would release them only when Tunisia frees the Libyan officials arrested in Tunisia... I ask the authorities to intervene."

Mustapha Abd El Kebir, a Tunisian human rights
...which are usually open to widely divergent definitions...
activist with contacts in Libya, also confirmed that dozens of Tunisians were being held in Sabratha.

Algeria to close private TV over 'subversive' interview
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Algeria on Monday ordered the closure of a private television station after it broadcast an interview with an Islamist figure accused of "subversive" remarks, the communications ministry said.

The decision came after El Watan TV broadcast on Oct. 3 an interview with Madani Mezrag, the former head of the Islamic Salvation Army (AIS), the armed wing of the banned Islamic Salvation Front (FIS).

In the interview Mezrag spoke of his plans to set up a political party and criticized President Abdelaziz Bouteflika
... 10th president-for-life of Algeria. He was elected in 1999 and is currently on his third or fourth term. Maybe it's the fifth....
for rejecting his initiative.

"If he (the president) does not review his position, he will hear from me what he has never heard before," Mezrag said in the interview.

A source at the communications ministry said El Watan was being shut over "subversive remarks and attacks against the symbol of the State" -- an apparent reference to the veteran leader.

The source said that Communications Minister Hamid Grine has asked the governor of Algiers to take the necessary steps to close down El Watan.

"This chain is not authorized to work in Algeria where it has no official accreditation," said the source.

El Watan TV is based in London and broadcasts from the eastern Mediterranean island of Cyprus, although it has offices in Algiers where it employs 170 people.

Owner Dfajar Chelli told AFP he would appeal the decision.

More than 40 private television channels work out of Algeria but only five have official accreditation, according to the communications ministry. Others are tolerated by authorities.

"El Watan has stepped over the line of tolerance," the ministry source said.

In 1997, Mezrag cut a deal with the army that allowed thousands of ISA members to be pardoned after laying down their weapons. Other Islamist leaders also benefited from the agreement.

Bangladesh Arrests Islamists for Slashing Pastor's Throat
[AnNahar] Bangladesh police said Monday they had locked away
Drop the rosco, Muggsy, or you're one with the ages!
five Islamists for the attempted murder of a Christian pastor whose throat was slashed in the latest of a string of attacks blamed on religious hard boys.
Are they Palestinian?
The five members of the outlawed Jamayetul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) group have been detained on suspicion of planning or carrying out last week's attack on Baptist pastor Luke Sarker in the town of Iswardi.

One of those arrested was suspected of having attacked Sarker before making his getaway on the back of a cycle of violence, while the other four were believed to have been involved in plotting the attack.

"They carried out the attack to draw international attention and destabilize the country," district police chief Alamgir Kabir told Agence La Belle France Presse.

Sarker, who runs a church in the mainly Muslim northwestern town, was attacked on October 5 while trying to respond to a question about Christianity.

He was rushed to hospital but medical officials say he is now recovering.

The attack came only days after gunnies rubbed out an Italian aid worker and a Japanese farmer. The Islamic State

They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
organization has grabbed credit for both of those killings.

Attacks on Christians, who make up less than one percent of Bangladesh's 160 million people, are rare although 10 people were killed in 2001 when Islamists bombed a church in the southern district of Gopalganj.

Experts say Islamist hard boyz pose a growing danger in Muslim-majority Bangladesh, warning that a long-running political crisis has radicalized opponents of the government.

The liquidation of four atheist bloggers since the turn of the year undermines the government's efforts to play down the threat posed by hardliners, experts say.

The JMB killed 28 people in 2005 when they carried out a series of kabooms on courts. While its top leaders were subsequently executed for the bombings, police say the JMB is now regrouping.

Three Guards Killed in Kyrgyzstan as 9 Islamists Break Out of Jail
[AnNahar] Three prison guards were killed and one was maimed after nine prisoners held for extremism and terrorism beat feet from a jail near the Kyrgyzstan capital Bishkek on Monday, the interior ministry said.

The three were killed attempting to apprehend the group after it broke out of the jail in Chui province in the early hours, it said.

Five were captured by police and four were still on the lam, including two serving life sentences and two who were being held under arrest pending trial, it said.

"All of them have been prosecuted for religious extremism and terrorism," the Kyrgyz authorities said in a statement.

The escapees have been identified by police as active supporters of the outlawed Jaishul Mahdi (Army of the Righteous Ruler) religious group.

Kyrgyzstan's border service said Monday that it had boosted security at the border with Kazakhstan after the jail break.

Kyrgyzstan, a fragile ex-Soviet republic in Central Asia, saw over 500 people die in political violence in 2010.

In recent years, it has been sounding the alarm over religious extremism.

It claimed to have foiled a plot by the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. group to destabilize the country after six alleged snuffies were killed in festivities with government forces in July.

Last week a local court sentenced a popular imam from an ethnic minority group to five years' jail on extremism charges.

The prosecution said imam Rashot Kamalov's sermons contained passages showing support for IS, who are believed to have recruited hundreds of Kyrgyz citizens to fight in the Middle East.

A number of observers of the trial including local civil society leaders say it was marred by irregularities and accuse the government of trying to silence a prominent critic.

Terror suspects get pretrial detention in Moscow
[RFE/RL] A Moscow court has sent three men to pretrial detention on suspicion of plotting a terror attack in the Russian capital. The Lefortovo district court ruled that Aslan Baisultanov, Elman Ashayev, and Mokhmad Mezhidov should be held in detention without bail until at least December 12.

Federal Security Service chief Aleksandr Bortnikov said that the suspects were among a group of 12 Russian citizens who were detained on October 11.

Bortnikov alleged that Baisultanov traveled to Russia from Syria to organize a terrorist attack in Moscow. He said all of the detained men were members and supporters of the Daesh.

8 suspects in Safoora carnage arrested
[DAWN] MULTAN: At least eight convicted men were hanged on Tuesday for murder, officials said, bringing the total number of people executed since the moratorium was lifted on death penalty to more than 230 since December.

The executions - including two sets of brothers - took place in four cities in the province of Punjab: Attock, Gujrat, Multan and Bahawalpur.

Read: Resumption of executions

Two brothers, Mohammad Azam and Mohammad Aslam, were hanged in Gujrat; while another two brothers, Ghulam Qadir and Ghulam Sarwar, were executed in Bahawalpur for murdering two relatives, prison officials said.

Double murder convict Muhammad Ashraf was hanged in Attock, two men were executed in Multan, and the eighth was also hanged in Bahawalpur, the officials added.

Pakistan lifted its moratorium on the death penalty in all capital cases on March 10.

Supporters argue that the death penalty is the only effective way to deal with the scourge of militancy in the country.

But critics say the legal system is unjust, with rampant police torture, poor representation for victims and unfair trials.

Initially executions were resumed for terrorism offences only in the wake of a Taliban massacre at an army-run school in Peshawar which had claimed the lives of more than 150 persons, mostly schoolchildren, on December 16, 2014.

The United Nations, the European Union, Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch have called on Pakistan to re-impose its moratorium on the death penalty.

IDF: Fifty percent decrease in riots in West Bank in three days leading up to Monday
Stepping back from counting trees to see the forest:
[Ynet] The number of West Bank riots fell by 50 percent in the three days leading up to yesterday (Monday). Nineteen instances of riots were recorded on Monday, compared to 52 last Friday - the worst day of confrontations in the West Bank so far.

The majority of terrorist attacks involving stabbing and shooting over the past two weeks across Israel, including Jerusalem, were carried out by Paleostinians from East Jerusalem and not the West Bank.
Jerusalemites can lose residency rights and citizenship, which would, I assume mean exiling them to the West Bank or Gaza. Separately, An Nahar points out:
In the first and second intifadas, in 1987-1993 and 2000-2005, hundreds were killed in near-daily violence between Israel and the Paleostinians.

The Times of Israel liveblogged Tuesday's events
Another busy day: stabbings, rock throwings, a car ramming, an attempted bus hijacking, funerals, Gaza crossing closed again, attackers arrested or killed...

The cabinet decided:
o The IDF will bolster its presence in city centers.
o East Jerusalem Arab neighborhoods will be encircled by security forces.
o Terrorists’ homes will be demolished within days of carrying out attacks.
o The residency status will be revoked from families of East Jerusalem terrorists who aren’t Israeli citizens.

The Jerusalem Post adds two more:
o in addition to destroying terrorists' homes, it will now not be permitted to rebuild at the site of the demolitions;
o the seizure of terrorists' assets.

Think how much worse it would have been had not the security fence been built.
The Israelis are going to have to consider the rather significant number of Israeli Arab citizens who are in open cahoots with the Paleos. If they can't behave as citizens perhaps they have to go on the other side of the security fence, and politics be damned...

Southeast Asia
One Dead, Church Burned, in Clashes in Indonesia's Aceh
[AnNahar] One man was killed Tuesday in violent festivities that saw a church burned to the ground by hundreds of gunnies in Indonesia's conservative Islamic province of Aceh, a local police chief said.

About 750 stick-wielding men razed a church in southern Aceh before clashing with local Christians at a second church.

"After burning the church the mob tried to attack another church, but it turned out Christians were already at the ready," Aceh police chief Husein Hamidi told AFP. "A clash occurred, and one man was killed after being shot in the head with an air rifle."

Four others were maimed by rocks thrown during the confrontation, he added.

Police and the military were jointly deployed to restore order and one of the injured was a member of the armed forces, according to Hamidi.

The identity of the dead man and the three other injured remained unclear.

Hamidi said the festivities followed a demonstration last week by an Islamic youth group demanding the local government tear down a number of churches they claimed had been built illegally without permits.

The local authorities agreed to act, but tensions boiled over Tuesday as angry civilians took matters into their own hands, Hamidi said.

The situation has since been brought under control, and 30 people have been detained for questioning, he added.

group Imparsial "condemned the burning of a place of worship and the loss of life," director executive Poengky Indarti told AFP.

"Imparsial is deeply concerned of the presence of intolerant groups (acting) in the name of religion."

Indonesia is the world's most populous Muslim majority country but significant minorities of Christians, Hindus, Buddhists and Confucians live side by side in the diverse archipelago.

Attacks on places of worship have occurred in the past. A mosque was razed in Papua, a Christian-majority province in eastern Indonesia, in July on the Islamic holy day of Eid al-Fitr.
This suggests the journalist believes we oughtn't take seriously the destruction of one church followed by the attempted destruction of a second. Question for those who know more about Indonesia than I: how serious are yesterday's attacks?

Seven Indonesians on Trial over Alleged IS Links
[AnNahar] Seven Indonesian men went on trial Monday accused of links to the Islamic State

group, and could face the death penalty if found guilty of breaking anti-terror laws.

They were all charged with being part of an "evil conspiracy" and accused of a range of crimes, from trying to aid acts of terror to supporting IS, which has been banned in the world's most populous Muslim-majority country since October last year.

Three of the accused -- Ahmad Junaedi alias Abu Salman, Ridwan Sungkar alias Abu Bilal, and Helmi Muhamad Alamudi alias Abu Royan -- allegedly went to Syria to join IS last year and received military training, prosecutors said.

"Not only has the defendant declared that he joined IS, he also joined military training in ISIS camps," prosecutor Teddy Irawan told a Jakarta court, opening the case against Sungkar. ISIS is an alternative name for the Islamic State group.

"The defendant was aware that the objective of the training was preparation to launch acts of terror," he added.

One defendant, Tuah Febriwansyah alias Muhammad Fachry, was accused of running websites with pro-IS content, uploading articles such as one named: "Pledging loyalty to ISIS, why not?".

All the defendants were being tried separately.

The lawyer for six of the defendants, Asludin Hatjani, said he hoped his clients could escape the IS-linked charges as most of their crimes were alleged to have taken place before Indonesia banned the group.

Hundreds of Indonesians are feared to have traveled to the Middle East to join IS, which controls vast swathes of territory in Syria and Iraq. Several have been detained on their return.

However,
some people are alive only because it's illegal to kill them...
counter-terror officials complain that current laws are still too weak to stop turbans leaving for Syria and to block the spread of radical information on the Internet.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Iran broadcasts footage of underground missile base
TEHRAN: Iranian state television broadcast unprecedented footage Wednesday of a deep underground tunnel packed with missiles and launcher units, which officials said could be used if "enemies make a mistake".

The pictures were released just three days after Iran tested a new long-range missile that the United States said may have breached a U.N. Security Council resolution.

The footage also came a day after Iran's parliament approved the country's July 14 nuclear deal with six world powers.

Iranian officials have said the nuclear agreement will not affect its military forces, particularly its ballistic missile program.

Two rockets hit Russian embassy in Syria, no casualties reported
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Two shells were fired at Russia's embassy in Damascus on Tuesday during a demonstration in support of Moscow, but there were no immediate reports of casualties or damage to the building.

The incident came nearly two weeks after Russia, a major ally of Syria's Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad

, launched air strikes against Syrian rebels and ISIS Lion of Islams.

One witness said both shells appeared to land in a park close to the embassy compound. A second witness said one of them landed inside the compound but did not hit the building itself.

Russia's Interfax news agency said two rockets landed in the embassy grounds. It quoted a diplomat at the embassy as saying none of the embassy employees was maimed.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitoring group said the rockets were fired from the eastern edges of the capital, where rebels are entrenched.

and the head of powerful Shiite bully boy group Hezbollah.

In a voice recording released late Monday, head of Al-Nusra Front Abu Mohammed al-Golani said he would pay "three million euros ($3.4 million) for anyone who can kill Bashir al-Assad and end his story".

"How long must Muslims delay their rights and shed their blood for a man who loves his power?" he asked.

The bully boy chief said he would pay out the sum even if a member of Assad's own family killed the head of state, and said Al-Nusra would protect the killer and his family.

Golani also offered "an amount of two million euros ($2.2 million) for whoever kills (Hezbollah head) Hassan Nasrallah, even if it is a member of his own family or sect."

Hezbollah has intervened militarily in Syria's brutal conflict on behalf of Assad, dispatching thousands of fighters to various fronts across the country.

ISIS confirms killing of number two in U.S. air strike
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] The Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) group's front man confirmed on Tuesday the killing of the holy warrior organization's second in command in a U.S. air strike earlier this year.

"America is rejoicing over the killing of Abu Mutaz al-Qurashi and considers this a great victory," Abu Mohammed al-Adnani said in an audio recording posted on holy warrior websites.

"I will not mourn him... he whose only wish was to die in the name of Allah... he has raised men and left behind heroes who, God willing, are yet to harm America," he added.

Adnani did not say, however, in what circumstances Qurashi died.

But the White House, in an announcement on August 22, said that Qurashi, whose real name is Fadhil Ahmad al-Hayali, was killed on August 18 in a U.S. air strike near the northern Iraqi city of djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
It said the strike targeted a vehicle and also killed an IS "media operative" known as Abu Abdullah.

The U.S. National Security Council said at the time that Hayali was IS leader His Supreme Immensity, Caliph of the Faithful and Galactic Overlord, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi
...formerly merely the head of ISIL and a veteran of the Bagram jailhouse. Looks like a new messiah to bajillions of Moslems, like just another dead-eyed mass murder to the rest of us...
's senior deputy.

Hayali was reportedly a former Iraqi officer from the era of Saddam Hussein.
The White House described Hayali as a member of the ISIS ruling council, and "a primary coordinator for moving large amounts of weapons, explosives, vehicles and people between Iraq and Syria."

In its August announcement the White House also said that Hayali "was in charge of ISIL operations in Iraq, where he was instrumental in planning operations over the past two years, including the ISIL offensive in Mosul in June 2014," using another name for ISIS.

Like many senior Iraqi holy warriors, before joining the ISIS group, Hayali had been a member of Al-Qaeda's Iraqi faction.

He was reportedly a former Iraqi officer from the era of Saddam Hussein.
