How 'Dodd-Frank' is becoming the new 'Obamacare'
[Washington Post] If you don't know what the Dodd-Frank Act is, Rep. Paul Ryan
...U.S. Representative for Wisconsin's 1st congressional district, serving since 1999. He is a member of the Republican Party. He proposed an alternative to President Obama's 2011 budget and made himself the target of both Democrat and Republican verbal pies...
(R-Wis.) told an audience last weekend, "it's Obamacare
... aka the Affordable Care Act, an ineptly designed and worse executed piece of legislation designed to bring 17 percent of the U.S. economy under the direct control of the government. The previous iteration, known as Hillarycare, was laughed out of Washington. This stinker was passed on a party-line vote without being read...
for banks." Ryan, outgoing chairman of the House Budget Committee, was echoing Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), who's been using that expression since at least April (and he used it again Wednesday night). Expect to hear the expression more, particularly once a new, probably-Republican-led Senate takes over on Capitol Hill in January.

Dodd-Frank, a set of financial regulations passed in the wake of the financial crisis, has been cited by financial news hounds, liberal publications, and (most importantly) Republican senators as a likely target for overhaul if the Senate changes hands. In particular, Dodd-Frank's "Volcker Rule," which limits speculative trading by banks, has been a Republican punching bag since its passage in 2010.

The origin of the newly in-vogue phrase appears to be a April 2012 Weekly Standard piece by Peter Wallison. "The best way to understand the Dodd-Frank Act," Wallison wrote, "is to think of it as Obamacare for the financial industry. Like its health care counterpart, it leaves the members of the massive financial services industry as privately-owned firms, but blankets them with so much regulation that they are no longer really independent operators."

#1  Is this really the signature issue that the GOP grass roots are pushing for action? Or is this simply more of the beltway myopia that infests the Rove-McConnel-Boehner leadership of the GOP?

Clearly the latter. TEA Party is whats providing the big push in the base, and dissatisfaction with big government and its impact is whats making this into a "wave", and these idiots want to push "Free The Banks". Incredible. The GOP is dead from the neck up.

#2  What an idiotic issue to run on. If you want win run on an issue that ressonates. How about a ban on red light cameras on federally funded highways?

#3  For the most part, the 'Pubs aren't saying much or running on any sort of positive platforms. At least they're not shooting themselves in the foot and letting Obama run his mouth instead ("my policies are on the ballot"). Not pleased about it, but I'll take it.

#4  Most voters probably don't know what Dodd-Frank is. At the worst they might think it was one of Barney's trysts; at best they might think it is one of those obscure pieces among thousands of legislation that is spewed out of Washington.

#5  Dodd-Frank is an Elizibeth Warren project.

If they can easily state why Joe Credit Card now has minimum purchase amounts at some stores, but OS is right in that they will need a counter to the Free The Banks counter.

#6  Remember 2008? The banks screwed us all by violating the first principle of mortgage lending - verify the borrowers' ability to repay.

The banks brought Dodd-Frank on themselves. No sympathy.

#7  Dodd-Frank is just as bad as Obamacare, and it's crippling a lot of companies, not just banks. It's one of several reasons there aren't more jobs. Even more important, it does nothing to prevent the problems of underwater mortgages that caused the problem it's supposed to address. It's not glamorous, but it's one of a hundred things the Rethugs need to work on to get the boot of government off the people and industry.

Latest Attack Ad From Davis Claims Abbott Doesn't Want Blacks To Vote
[BREITBART] With the election only days away, Democrat candidate for Texas Governor Wendy Davis is holding nothing back in her efforts to attack her Republican opponent Greg Abbott. The challenge for Davis is that her past attacks have either been largely ignored by the voters, failed to stick after being debunked, or, backfired on her, as was the case with her "empty wheelchair" ad and an odd attempt to paint Abbott -- whose wife is Hispanic -- as opposing interracial marriage. Now, in a new radio ad, Davis alleges that Abbott does not want black Texans to vote.

The radio ad features an African-American male narrator who asks listeners if they've "heard of this guy running for Governor, the Republican Greg Abbott?" and calls Abbott "bad news," claiming that Abbott "tried to overturn the Voting Rights Act." "Take a guess about who Abbott doesn't want to vote," the narrator continues.

As Ashe Schow at the Washington Examiner notes, Abbott did not oppose the premise of the Voting Rights Act, but rather represented Texas as part of a group of Southern states challenging the section that granted the federal government the authority to preemptively review -- and reject -- any changes to Texas' election laws and redistricting maps. Now, Texas, just like all fifty states, still has to comply with the Voting Rights Act, and anyone who wishes to challenge the state's election laws or maps can file a lawsuit under that law. The only difference is that any new laws passed do not have to get federal approval before being enacted.

The ad also quotes some controversial statements by musician Ted Nugent, an Abbott supporter, attacks Abbott for opposing the minimum wage, and claims that he "led the effort to cut $5 billion from our schools," referring to Abbott's role as Attorney General in the school finance lawsuit. Davis' infamous "meltdown" during one of their debates occurred when she attempted to blame him for not settling this lawsuit and Abbott correctly pointed out that a law that Davis herself had voted for prohibited him from settling the case without legislative approval. Obviously, Abbott was also unable to cast a vote on the education budget in the first place, because he was not in the legislature.

"If you don't want Greg Abbott to do more damage to our community, you gotta get out and vote," the ad concludes, urging listeners to cast a ballot during early voting.

#1  At this point it's about fundraising and her post election gig at MSNBC. (Either that or a sudden gig in the Obama administration, probably in communications, because she's such a klutz.)

It's my bet that her true ulterior motive, is to replace the radical feminist, and stumblin', bumblin, DNC chairwoman, and Obama sycophant -- Debbie Wasserman-Schultz. All Davis needs is a Top Ramen Noodle hair doo, and who in the world could tell them apart ?

NBC: Possible Republican Midterm Wave = 'Hold-Your-Nose Election'
[NEWSBUSTERS.ORG] As the chances of Republicans gaining control of the Senate in the upcoming midterm election remained high, Meet the Press moderator Chuck Todd appeared on Friday's NBC Today to pour cold water on the possibility: "...definitely feels like a hold-your-nose election....talking to voters that I did, they'd like to punish the President's party without rewarding the Republicans. And in many cases, they're sort of sitting on their hands, they're not sure what to do....They're probably leaning against the President, but they're not happy about it."
Oh, I'm so sad. The Pubs could put up the rotting corpse of Nikita S. Khrushchev as a candidate and I'd vote for him over a Dem. And I'd watch twelve hours of Disney Channel to get out of having to watch one hour of anything on [MS]NBC, to include the test pattern if they still have that. And while doing either of those things there'd be a smile on my face and a song in my heart.

#7  What does justice look like?

-the wealthy suburbs around D.C. and all the state capitals, reduced to impoverished ghost towns,

-the money that was going to fund all the bureaucrats, lawyers, functionaries, and lobbyists that base their parasitic existence in those places no longer going there and instead used to pay down the debt and then give tax relief to the productive private sector,

- the former parasite class and coerced sector maggotry let go and forced to choose between working much harder for a lot less money and with actual metrics and the stress and anxiety that go with them in low skilled, low status positions in the dreaded private sector, or watching themselves and their families starve.

That is what justice looks like.

Champ set to make 64-year history in worst midterm loss category
[Wash Times] Chalk up another title to The Champ’s legacy — the White House executive who’s about to oversee the worst successive midterm elections losses in 64 years.
Worst midterm loss, legacy, and president; poetic justice I'd say.
There are those who will mutter that correlation is not causation, but I think in this case the conclusion can safely be drawn...
The Democrats under The Champ lost 63 House seats in 2010. And now, they’re poised to lose up to 12 from the House in Tuesday’s elections — and that’s the worst losing record in back-to-back, four-year midterms since Harry Truman days, the Daily Mail reported.

Now comes The Champ.

Most polls paint a dire picture for the Democrats this election, predicting between five and 12 lost seats in the House — though some analysts say the count could go even higher, the Daily Mail reported. His only bright light?

The Daily Mail said The Champ's combined midterm losses in the House could actually beat the combine losses of Republican Dwight Eisenhower, whose party dropped a total of 66 House seats in 1954 and 1958 elections. But that’s a dubious honor, at best.

#3  I'm extremely skeptical of these "could be the worst ever" stories. They're just MSM battlespace prep. If and when it turns out not to be the "worst ever" (and even if it is) they'll turn around and spin it as a great Dem victory, somehow. It's what they do. It's what they always do.

A desperate Mary Landrieu smears the state she represents
[NOLA] Things must be going even worse for the Democrats than the polls suggest. The campaign of incumbent Sen. Mary Landrieu, D-La., for example, has hit rock bottom.

How else to explain her lame attempt to blame her electoral peril on racism and sexism? Modern illiberals are incapable of thinking their record or their ideas could lead to misfortune.

Landrieu has trailed in the polls for weeks now. Indeed, it seems increasingly unlikely she could beat either of her two top Republican challengers head-to-head, although she will almost certainly get the chance against one in a runoff.
