Afghanistan
Jacket wallah kills 3 police officers in Afghanistan
A suicide attacker rammed a car full of explosives into a police convoy in southwestern Afghanistan on Thursday, killing three policemen and wounding four others, the government said.

The attack in Nimroz province, blamed on the "enemies of Afghanistan" -- a common reference to the Taliban -- comes with presidential and provincial council elections just weeks away and amid mounting violence. "A police supply convoy came under attack from a suicide bomber. As a result, three border police, including their commander, were killed and four other police wounded," the Interior Ministry said.

Gunbattle: Separately, the Taliban attacked a military supply convoy in southern Afghanistan, sparking a gunbattle that killed 21 Taliban and three border police, AP quoted a provincial official. The convoy was targeted on Wednesday soon after it crossed the border from Pakistan, said Hamidullah Zhwak, a spokesman for the governor of Paktika province. He said it was guarded by more than 80 private security guards, and he had no reports that any of them were killed or wounded.

Africa Horn
Indian vessel, crewmembers released off Somalia
[Iran Press TV Latest] The French Navy, in cooperation with the Indian Navy, has ensured the release of 14 Indian sailors whose ship had been hijacked by Somali pirates.

The Indian vessel, the MV Nafeya, was hijacked by pirates off Boosasso near Somalia on July 10, after dropping off its cargo at a Somali harbor. The MV Nafeya was proceeding towards Dubai when Somali pirates armed with RPGs and AK47s raided the vessel, Indian Navy officers said in New Delhi on Thursday.

After the pirates were tailed by warships, they sailed the Indian vessel close to the coast of Somalia and released it at 0300 GMT on July 15 and managed to flee in their skiffs, the officials said. The kidnapped crewmembers were reportedly unharmed.

Bangladesh
Five outlaws held with arms, bombs
[Bangla Daily Star] Rapid Action Battalion arrested five top Janajuddho cadres including a regional leader and recovered firearms, ammunition and explosives from them at a hotel in Chuadanga Wednesday night.

The arrestees are Sahanur Joardar, 33, regional leader of Shailkupa, Miron, 25, Faruq, 22, Selim 38 and Saiful, 27 of Shailkupa, Jhenidah.
I'm sure Chuadanga and Shailkupa, Jhenidah can be found somewhere on the map of Bangladesh, if one has a very, very strong magnifying glass.
Tipped off
By Mahmoud the Weasel,
a team of Rab-6 led by Maj Shafiqur Rahman raided the hotel near Chuadanga railway station at around 9:30pm. Sensing presence of the law enforcers
Spidey sense tingling,
the activists fired a shot and blasted a bomb inside the hotel, Rab said.
Blasting bombs inside one's hotel generally results in a cleaning surcharge added to your bill... or so I've heard.

Rab later surrounded and arrested them and recovered three pistols, four bombs and 30 bullets from their possession, sources said, adding that they also seized two motorbikes used by the outlaws.
Jim at the hospital must be feeling lonely with all these arrests. Dr. Quincy hasn't spoken to him in ages.
Rab said the men came to hold meeting with Janajuddho activists of Chuadanga and adjacent areas in a bid to reorganise the outfit, one of the factions of Purbo Banglar Communist Party.
Given the short lifespan of Purbo Banglar commies, they need weekly meetings
They were organising under the command of new Janajuddho leader Abdul Kuddus, nephew of Abdur Rashid Tapan alias Dada Tapan, sources said.
Soon to have an encounter of his very own.
Being a Purbo Banglar Communist Party leader has as much appeal as being the manager of the Washington Nationals.

Alleged US missiles kill 5 in northwest Pakistan
Alleged? Hey man, that's profiling. Ima sick Al Sharpton on yo ass.
A suspected U.S. missile strike in a Pakistani tribal region killed at least five alleged militants Friday, officials said, showing America's unwillingness to abandon the tactic even as Pakistani officials say it could interfere with army offensives in the northwest.
Could have been the Ruritanians ...
The missile strike hit a house in Gariwam village in North Waziristan, said two intelligence officials who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to media on the record.

Local government official Anayat Ullah also confirmed a missile hit the village, while resident Ahmad Raza said he heard Taliban in the area saying five of their comrades were dead.

Also Friday, Pakistan's top court overturned opposition leader Nawaz Sharif's conviction on hijacking charges stemming from the 1999 coup against his government, clearing the last obstacle to his running for office.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
PA seizes seven Hamas members in West Bank
[Iran Press TV Latest] Hamas says Fatah-run security forces in the occupied territory of West Bank have arrested at least 7 people affiliated with the Palestinian faction.

According to a statement released by the Islamic resistance movement, those arrested in the late Wednesday raids came from the areas of Tulkarem, Nablus and Ariha (Jericho).

The Palestinian Authority forces had reportedly ransacked their West Bank homes overnight for possible documents.

The recent arrests come as part of a violent crackdown that the Palestinian Authority has mounted on affiliates to Hamas in the West Bank.

The opponent Palestinian factions, Hamas and Fatah, have long been wrangling with each other over substantial discords which have undermined efforts to bridge the gap between different Palestinian factions.

In another development, meanwhile, Israeli army soldiers seized eight Palestinians, including three teenagers, and took them into custody during overnight operations in the West Bank.

According to the Israeli army, the pre-dawn raids took place in the occupied Palestinian cities of Jenin, Nablus, Beit Lahm (Bethlehem) as well as Ariha.

The arrests came despite the Israeli army's pledge last month to refrain from future incursions into West Bank terrains. The pledge has been broken on numerous occasions.

A number of Israeli ground soldiers also broke into a Tulkarem refugee camp in the northern West Bank early on Thursday. The troops cordoned off the al-Balawna neighborhood in the camp at 2 am local time (24 GMT) and started combing through the residents' houses. No one was reported as arrested.

Tel Aviv claims that those arrested in overnight raids in the West Bank are 'wanted fighters'. More than 11,500 Palestinians, including women and children, are currently imprisoned in Israeli detention facilities, facing harsh and life-threatening conditions.

Southeast Asia
Two soldiers, two civilians killed in southern Thailand
Two soldiers were killed and four others wounded by a bomb planted by separatist terrorists militants in Thailand's restive south on Friday, police said. They said two civilians also died in separate other attacks also thought to be the work of the terrorists militants.

The soldiers were killed when a bomb exploded in a car parked in front of Yaha district administration office in troubled Yala province, police said. The explosion targeted about eight soldiers patrolling the area in a pickup truck. A civilian woman was also wounded.

Late on Thursday night a 44-year-old food vendor was shot dead at his home in neighbouring Narathiwat province. A few hours earlier in Yala province, a 26-year-old villager was shot dead at his home.

At Least 4 Dead in Bomb Explosions at Hotels in Indonesia
Mods, if this has already been posted and is in the holding tank for Friday, please delete.
You posted the most complete report, Barbara. Well done!
JAKARTA, Indonesia -- Bombs have exploded at the Ritz-Carlton and Marriott hotels in the Indonesian capital on Friday, ripping the facade off the Ritz.

Police say at least 4 foreigners were killed.

Debris and shattered glass littered the street outside the neighboring hotels in an upscale Jakarta neighborhood. Ambulances were being shuttled into the area.

A man jogging by the hotels said he first heard a loud explosion at the Marriott. Five minutes later, a bomb followed at the Ritz. Alex Asmasubrata said he saw four bodies inside the Marriott. One had its stomach blown out. An Associated Press reporter saw three injured taken away from the Ritz.

Police, however, would only confirm four people were injured.

The Marriott hotel was attacked in 2003, when 12 died. Southeast Asian terror network Jemaah Islamiyah was blamed in that blast.

Update at the Jerusalem Post:
Updated Jul 17, 2009 7:22 (Jerusalem time)

Nine people were killed and at least 50 were wounded after two powerful bombs exploded at a pair of luxury hotels in an upscale Jakarta business district Friday, Indonesian officials said.

The police operational chief Arief Wahyunadi said the bombs were planted in the Ritz-Carlton's Air Langga restaurant and the basement of the Marriott, which was attacked in 2003. Twelve people died in that assault, which was blamed on Southeast Asian terror network Jemaah Islamiyah.

The Manchester United football team was scheduled to stay at the Ritz on Saturday and Sunday nights for a friendly match against the Indonesian All Stars, the Indonesian Football association said.

Because of past attacks, most major hotels in Jakarta take security precautions, such as checking incoming vehicles and requiring visitors to pass through metal detectors.

#1  B..b...b...b...but this can't be. Home Boy Barry Sotero is in the White House now. He's supposed to engender the love, admiration, and respect of the terrorists Muslim activists.

There must be some mistake.

Maybe they don't like being jilted in favor of the Urdu poets? Or the great Russian innovators?

Hey, Barry, you big surrender monkey, can you take a break from destroying America - long enough to see if you can placate the mad Islamic bombers? I mean, you've got at least a few more months before you can bring on the total meltdown of the US financial system, no matter how hard you try. So - polish up your teleprompter, and see what you can do about apologizing enough for America existing to make all the bad men go away.
