Afghanistan
Scores dead in clashes in Afghanistan
[Iran Press TV] Clashes between Talibs and Afghan forces have left several dead amid deteriorating security situation in war-ravaged Afghanistan.
It's said things were getting better over there, but an Iran PressTV journalist wouldn't know that.
Talibs attacked a construction company in the Gereshk district of Afghanistan's southern Helmand Province on Sunday night, Rooters reported. Eight security contractors were killed and three others were maimed during the ensuing shootout with the jihad boys. Afghan authorities said several Talibs had also been killed in the clashes.

Meanwhile,
...back at the ranch...
the Taliban claimed they had captured a cop shoppe in the region, killing all 16 officers on duty.

In a separate incident in the western Afghan city of Herat, a bomb kaboom near a police check post left at least three civilians dead and eight others injured.

Violence has spread from the country's south to its northern and western areas over the course of the past year despite the presence of some 150,000 foreign troops. According to statistics by the United Nations, aka the Oyster Bay Chowder and Marching Society, the number of civilians killed in the first half of 2010 alone has seen a 25 percent rise compared to the same period last year, with more that 1,200 civilians killed. The deaths come as around 40,000 security guards are employed by dozens of private security firms in Afghanistan.

Kabul recently announced a decision to dissolve most private security firms by the end of 2010. The decision excludes a handful of the firms, allowing them to continue their operations in the country in order to protect foreign military bases and embassies.

'Taliban' kill woman accused of murdering mother-in-law
[BBC] A woman accused of murdering her mother-in-law has been killed by Taliban in the eastern Afghan province of Ghazni, local officials say.

The mother-in-law was pushed into a bread oven by two of her daughters-in-law after a spat on Monday, they say.

The incident took place in the remote Abe Band district, 60km (37 miles) east of the quiet provincial capital Ghazni City.

Officials say the Taliban have so far spared the life of the second daughter-in-law, as she is pregnant. The names of the three women have not been released.

"There was a verbal clash between the daughters-in-law and the mother-in-law. The daughters-in-law threw her into the oven. She died of serious burns,'' one Afghan official told the BBC.

He said it appears that the family approached the Taliban after the incident. A local intelligence official said it is suspected the Taliban gave an AK-47 assault rifle to the brother of the dead woman and asked him to shoot one of the daughters-in-law in public. But he added that it is possible that the family killed the daughter-in-law on its own.

The other daughter-in-law has been taken to an unknown location. The intelligence official said she may be kept hostage until she gives birth. "She may then be killed," he said.

Beheadings
Abe Band district is considered to be a Taliban stronghold. Several Afghans had their heads chopped off in the district last year after the Taliban accused them of spying for foreign forces.

Somali government seizes Bulo Hawo town from al-Shabab
[BBC] Pro-Somali government forces have seized the town of Bulo Hawo on the border with Kenya and Ethiopia from the hardline Islamist group al-Shabaab. This is seen as a significant victory for the weak, UN-backed government against the al-Qaeda-linked bad turbans. Al-Shabaab and their allies control most of southern and central Somalia but pro-government forces have been gaining ground in recent weeks. Kenya has responded by boosting security along the border.

Black flag lowered
On Monday, pro-Somali government forces said they had carried out a controlled kaboom of a huge roadside kaboom in Bulo Hawo. They have also imposed a curfew in the town.

The BBC's Bashkas Jugsodaay in northern Kenya says many people decamped the fighting into Kenya. He says they have not come as refugees but are staying with relatives until the situation is calm. They have mostly gone to the Kenyan town of Mandera, just 3km (two miles) from Bulo Hawo.

Somalia's government says 11 al-Shabaab fighters and one government soldier were killed in Sunday's fighting. It says the bad turbans' black flag was replaced with the blue and white Somali national one on all government buildings. The moderate Islamist group, Ahlu Sunnah Wal Jama, helped government forces against al-Shabaab.

There has also been fighting around the town of Beledweyne, north-east of Bulo Hawo. Beledweyne is controlled by al-Shabaab but government forces have advanced to within 20km (13 miles).

The government has this month seized several parts of the capital, Mogadishu, from al-Shabaab, with the help of African Union peacekeepers.

Al-Shabab bans mobile phone money transfers in Somalia
[BBC] Somali Islamist group al-Shabaab has ordered mobile phone companies to stop their popular money transfer services, saying they are "unIslamic".
If people are transferring money via phone, they don't need to carry it around, which makes them ever so much harder to rob by the Noble Lions of Islam.
Mobile phone banking was introduced in the northern Somaliland region in 2009 and has now spread across the country. Al-Shabaab and its allies control much of southern Somalia and one mobile phone company official said he had "no option but to obey" the order.

Despite years of conflict, Somalia's telecommunications sector is thriving. Mobile phones are a common sight in the capital, Mogadishu, and three companies currently offer mobile phone banking.

But the al-Qaeda linked group has given them three months to stop. Al-Shabaab says mobile phone banking could expose Somalia to interference by Western countries, through the international partners of the Somali telecommunications firms.

Some observers believe the ban may be intended to block a rival to the traditional money transfer systems, known as hawala, which al-Shabaab can influence, or tax, more easily.
That, too.

LRA attacks Sudan border region
[Iran Press TV] The Ugandan Lord's Resistance Army (LRA), a perennial thorn in Africa's side gunnies have attacked a border area between Sudan and Central Africa, a member of Sudan's National Assembly says.

"Sudan's LRA have advanced 65 kilometers into southern Darfur region in western Sudan and have plundered shops there," Mohammad Adam said.

The Sudanese MP further expressed concern over the activities of LRA gunnies that are considered a threat to Darfur, which you'd think had enough problems of its own without importing more.

The majority of the LRA are aged between 11 and 15. They are paramilitary forces formed in Uganda in 1988. The army has turned the lives of ordinary Sudanese people into a nightmare.

The main goal of the LRA is to form a Christian state in Africa.
... the definition of "Christian" being pretty elastic...
They have conducted different military operations in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda, Sudan and Central Africa.
... Pretty much anywhere there's money and wimmin...
Money and children would be more important, I think. The little ones make such nice sex toys and future soldiers, both at once.
The United Nations, aka the Oyster Bay Chowder and Marching Society High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has announced that LRA gunnies have killed more than 2,000 people since December 2008. More than 400,000 people have also been displaced ever since.

The LRA is wanted by the International Criminal Court for war crimes and crimes against humanity. It took up arms in 1988 in northern Uganda, but has been largely defeated in that country, extending its activities into the far northeast of the Democratic Republic of Congo about a decade ago.

Yemen sentences al Qaeda bomb-maker to death
SANAA - Yemen on Monday sentenced to death an al Qaeda bomb-maker who told the judge the “demise” of the country was in the hands of militants whose southern hideouts are being targeted by air raids. Saleh al-Shawish was arrested in January and prosecutors said he specialised in explosives while training with jihadist militants in Afghanistan.

Shawish confessed in court to involvement in al Qaeda, the judge said in his sentencing, including attacks on oil sites, military bases and checkpoints. His indictment said his expertise was building bombs and preparing suicide bombers.

“He belonged to al Qaeda and caused the death of a number of innocent people and damaged Yemen’s ... economic interests,” the judge said. “The punishment for this is the death penalty.”

Shawish, who is from the eastern province of Hadramout, rejected an appeal and told the judge: “God willing, your demise is in our hands, starting in Abyan.”

Mexican Federal Agents rescued five individuals Monday who had been illegally detained in two separate crimes, and conducted house to house searches for contraband and criminal suspects in a neighborhood in Juarez, say Mexican press reports.

On Mexico Highway 45 to Juarez a detachment of the Mexican Policia Federal intercepted a bus and questioned a woman about a young male companion with her.

Finally, Mexican federal agents cordoned off the Juarez neighborhood Altavista, establishing a checkpoint and conducting house to house searches for drugs, fugitives and weapons.

Altavista is a known gang and drug area.

No reports were released of any arrests or contraband seized in the operation.

Parliament attackers "liquidated" by security forces, says Chechen government
Police in Russia's Chechnya have killed all the terrorists who attacked the republic's parliament on Tuesday morning, an Interior Ministry official said.

The deputy head of the republic's Interior Ministry, Roman Edilov, said four militants and two police officers had died during the operation. He also dismissed reports that the militants had taken hostages.

The attack began when a vehicle carrying terrorists drove in with cars carrying lawmakers, a police source told RIA Novosti earlier.
Hm? What, they just follow them in the gate or something? Like I have to do at my Dad's community sometimes?
He added that a suicide bomber had blown himself up while the other militants headed toward parliament.
Didn't appear to do much?
Parliament was evacuated and a special operation, headed by Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov, was launched to flush out the militants.
Oh, taking the military credit for himself, is he? He was a rebel, I suppose he knows how to do such things and was nearby.

US missile strike in Waziristan kills 4
(KUNA) -- At least four people were killed in the latest US missile strike Monday night in Pak tribal region, bordering Afghanistan, said officials.

About six missiles were fired by predator drones at a vehicle and a house in a village of Dattakhel district in North Wazoo tribal agency, security officials told KUNA.

Four missiles hit a vehicle and two hit a house, suspected to be a hideout of alleged foreign bad boys, said officials. They said the strike killed more than four suspects and maimed several others. Tribal sources feared further rise in the corpse count. They also said that the killed suspects are believed to be foreign beturbanned goons of Arab and Uzbek origin.

Fresh violence takes 11 lives in Iraq
[Iran Press TV] Eleven people have died in kabooms and gun fights across Iraq where more than 231 people have been killed by homemade bombs so far this year.

The deadliest incident occurred on Sunday in western Storied Baghdad when a large gang of gunnies robbed a number of jewelry stores in al-Yarmuk neighborhood, Aswat al-Iraq news agency reported.

Three soldiers, two jewelers and two gunnies lost their lives in the attack, security sources said.

In a separate incident, two non-combatants were killed as two improvised bombs (IED) attached to their vehicles went off in the capital's western neighborhood of al-Mansour.

A soldier was also killed and an officer maimed when an IED detonated near their patrol vehicle in a village west of djinn-infested Mosul, the capital of the northern province of Nineveh.

Not sure how it works at that particular university, lg, but I do know of another university department that took care of that problem by scheduling the (lousy) prof's classes for 7 am and whatever the latest time was. Also made sure she had Monday morning and Friday evening classes. She eventually decided to retire.

(Related to me by a prof at my college who was at that college at the time it occurred.)

Of course, that presumes they disagree with him and want to get rid of him.

They don't. >:-(

#6  In true university fashion, charge him (and his univ) with "hate speech."

#7  Well, hate speech is protected speech according to the constitution and I wouldn't want him to stop spouting it and showing the world his true colors.

However, the fact the university keeps him on their payroll and does nothing to censor him means they endorse his message of genocide and antisemitism. So, do you want your child going to a university that condones this or have your tax dollars fund this?

#9  "oh, and he has tenure" Some years ago a full tenured professor at the university where I taught was basically fired. Rules are in place whereby a tenured prof can be fired for many reasons. Tenure rules are changing and there has been a subtle move to abolish tenure over the years. More and more courses are being taught by adjuncts, temporary faculty, non-tenured faculty, and graduate students. Many of these faculty and graduate students are foreign and have difficulty with the English language. There is probably more tenure in the public school system K-12 than large universities. In my opinion, it is also easier to obtain in the latter system. Bottom line: This guy can be dumped if there is enough pressure. However, I don't know how this would work in a private black college. There may be the OJ jury syndrome at work, i.e. protect a member of our race no matter what. Similar to the BHO phenomenom--in 2012 most blacks will probably vote for Obama no matter how bad he screws the country in the meantime.

#10  @#8 >private college

Not. State-assisted, considered public. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Commonwealth_System_of_Higher_Education

#11  Apologies for the private college misprint, I was misinformed. Anyhow, onward and upward, while in a hurry I found the time to make a phone call and get the exact key people to send the letters to, not just peruse the faculty directory and making a stab at a guess. The administrative assistant I spoke with was quite nice, even when supplied with the reason for my call, and was also apologetic and said the profs name with notable derision as if he has been a huge problem. I urge peeps to actually write, if you would be so kind.

#12  http://02bee66.netsolhost.com/lincolnhomepage/

The college's homepage. The black college part is very much apparent. Just wondering why it is necessary to have a black college in the year twenty ten in the United States? Much for the same reason I don't get women's colleges. Or schools for the gay. Or any special interests. What if you were a gay black woman? Does that mean your entire life you should be cloistered from others?
