Gaddafi left Tripoli for Sabha on Friday - bodyguard
[Emirates 24/7] Deposed Libyan leader Muammar Qadaffy
...a reminder that a single man with an idea can screw up an entire nation...
is reported to have been in the capital Tripoli as late as last Friday and to have gone from there to the southern desert town of Sabha, Britannia's Sky News said on Tuesday, quoting a 17-year-old bodyguard of his son Khamis.

Qadaffy's whereabouts have not been known since forces opposed to him captured Tripoli and his 42-year-old rule collapsed a week ago after a six-month uprising backed by NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. It's headquartered in Belgium. That sez it all....
and some Arab states.

Sky quoted the unnamed captured bodyguard as saying Qadaffy held a meeting with Khamis at around 1:30 p.m. on Friday in a Tripoli compound that was under heavy fire at the time by anti-Qadaffy forces.

Qadaffy had arrived in a saloon car and was also joined shortly afterwards by his daughter Aisha.

"They had a short, short meeting, the boy says. He wasn't close to them but he could see them very clearly," said Sky news hound Stuart Ramsay.

"They swapped into a series of Land Cruiser cars and headed off. He spoke to his immediate officer (who said) 'They're going to Sabha."

Along with Qadaffy's home town of Sirte, Sabha is one of the few remaining places in Libya where pro-Qadaffy forces are holding out.

Aisha is one of three of Qadaffy's children who, along with his wife, have now been confirmed to have crossed the border into Algeria.

#1  Qadaffy's whereabouts have not been known...

It's not exactly a secret that, over the years, ol' Mo has amassed quite a stash of gold. Find the man - find the booty. Dead men tell no tales. Those palace loyalists found with bullets in their buckets ain't talkin'.

Libya Rebels Give Gadhafi Forces Saturday Deadline
[An Nahar] Libya's rebels issued a Saturday ultimatum for Moammar Qadaffy's
...Custodian of Wheelus AFB for 42 long years...
forces to surrender or face a military onslaught, as NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. A single organization with differing goals, equipment, language, doctrine, and organization....
said the strongman is still able to command his troops despite being on the run.

National Transitional Council (NTC) chief Mustafa Abdul Jalil told news hounds in the rebel stronghold Benghazi Tuesday that the respite was offered to mark the three-day Eid al-Fitr Mohammedan feast which follows the end of the Mohammedan fasting month of Ramadan.

"This window of opportunity will be closed at the end of Eid al-Fitr (Friday in Libya)," Abdul Jalil said, adding that talks were under way with officials in towns including Qadaffy's birthplace Sirte to arrange their peaceful surrender.

"From Saturday, if no peaceful solution is in sight on the ground, we will resort to military force," Abdul Jalil warned.

He also warned that Qadaffy still enjoyed support inside Libya and outside the country.

Qadaffy "is not finished yet," he warned, as NATO said the strongman is still able to command and control his remaining troops even though he is on the run.

"He is displaying a capability to exercise some level of command and control," Colonel Roland Lavoie, military front man of the NATO air mission in Libya, told a news briefing in Brussels.

"The pro-Qadaffy troops that we see are not in total disarray, they are retreating in an orderly fashion, conceding ground and going to the second best position that they could hold to continue their warfare," he added.

Lavoie earlier told news hounds that NATO's military mission in Libya was still necessary and would continue as long as Qadaffy's forces threatened civilians.

"Despite the fall of the Qadaffy regime and the gradual return of security ... NATO's mission is not finished yet," Lavoie he said.

Algeria meanwhile on Tuesday defended its decision to give shelter to Qadaffy's wife and three children, as the angry rebels demanded they be returned for trial.

Algerian foreign ministry front man Amar Belani told Agence La Belle France Presse the decision to allow Qadaffy's wife Safiya, daughter Aisha and sons Mohammed and Hannibal to cross into the country on Monday was based solely on humanitarian concerns.

"These people have been admitted to Algeria for strictly humanitarian reasons," Belani said, adding that U.N. chief the ephemeral Ban Ki-moon
... of whom it can be said to his credit that he is not Kofi Annan...
, the Security Council and number two leader of the rebels' NTC, Mahmoud Jibril, had been informed.

Just hours after crossing over, daughter Aisha gave birth to a girl, Algerian authorities announced Tuesday.

The NTC, already at odds with Algiers for its refusal to recognize it as the legitimate authority in Libya, had reacted angrily when news broke Monday that some of their quarry had decamped.

"We'd like those persons to come back," NTC front man Mahmoud Shammam said in Tripoli, adding that Algeria had given the family members "a pass" to enter a third country.

"Saving Qadaffy's family is not an act we welcome and understand," Shammam told a presser in Tripoli.

"We can assure our neighbors that we want better relations with them ... but we are determined to arrest and try the Qadaffy family and Qadaffy himself," Shammam went on, saying the rebels guaranteed a "fair trial."

So far Algeria has not recognized the NTC and has adopted a stance of strict neutrality on the Libyan conflict, leading some among the rebels to accuse it of supporting the Qadaffy regime.

There has been no word on the whereabouts of Qadaffy himself, who went into hiding when rebel forces overran his Tripoli headquarters a week ago.

Italian news agency ANSA, citing "authoritative Libyan diplomatic sources," said he and his sons Saadi and Seif al-Islam were holed-up in the town of Bani Walid, south of the capital Tripoli.

The Western alliance earlier said its warplanes had fired a new barrage of bombs against Qadaffy forces holed up in Sirte, 360 kilometers east of Tripoli.

It said it destroyed 22 vehicles mounted with weapons, four radars, three command and control nodes, one anti-aircraft missile system and one surface-to-air missile system in the town's vicinity on Monday.

In Tripoli, Ahmed al-Tharaht, the NTC's official in charge of interior affairs, said rebels controlling the Libyan capital will be disarmed as quickly as possible.

"We will remove the weapons that are on the streets," and the plan will be quickly implemented, Tharaht said.

Disarmed rebels will be given the choice of joining the "national army" or the security forces, he added.

On the ground, rebel reinforcements were arriving on Tuesday at Bin Jawad, 100 kilometers east of Sirte, an AFP news hound said.

Occasional kabooms could be heard from near Nofilia, a desert hamlet just inland from Bin Jawad, while rebel T-55 tanks and armored vehicles rumbled towards the front line, taking up positions in the sand dunes.

Nofilia was seized by the rebels on Monday, sparking celebrations among the rebels.

"Tomorrow (Tuesday), God willing, we will continue our advance. Their morale is rock bottom," a rebel commander said of Qadaffy loyalists.

Other rebel fighters had moved to within 30 kilometers of Sirte from the west and were awaiting the reinforcements, rebel commander Mohammed al-Fortiya, told AFP on Sunday.

National Security Holds Islamic preacher Wagdy Ghoneim in Sana'a
[Yemen Post] Prominent Islamic preacher Wagdy Ghoniem was jugged at Sana'a International Airport and was informed that he is unwanted in Yemen.

National Security jugged Ghoneim upon his arrival Monday to Sana'a, together with his wife, as he was coming from Qatar.

Sources confirmed that Ghoneim would remain in jug until Tuesday morning, and to be deported with his family back to Qatar.

It is worth mentioning that he has official residence in Yemen.

The Islamic preacher Wagdy Ghoneim has been living in Yemen since his expulsion from Bahrain for political reasons.

It is believed that this situation has occurred as a result of Ghoneim's comments recently against the Yemeni regime or fears that he might be playing a political role in the Yemeni revolution especially that he was arriving from Qatar, which the Yemeni regime accused of supporting the revolution.

Defected Military Leader Advising Saleh not to Follow Satan
[Yemen Post] In a televised speech on Monday, Yemen's most powerful military leader advised President President-for-Life Ali Abdullah Saleh
... Saleh initially took power as a strongman of North Yemen in 1977, when disco was in flower...
, not to follow the footsteps of Satan and step down from power.

General Ali Mohsen's speech came on the eve of the Mohammedan holiday, "Eid al-Fitr".

He addressed President-for-Life Saleh
... exemplifying the Arab's propensity to combine brutality with incompetence...
saying: "I remind brother Ali Abdullah Saleh and the remnants of his regime that the people do not respect who make fun of them and will not tolerate such actions. He should not follow satan and his wishes."

Mohsen praised the military units in Abyan governorate who are fighting Al-Qaeda, which he said are engaged in heroic operations with courage despite their limited resources, and their old and dilapidated weapons.

Concerning the palace bombing, he expressed surprise at the charges the government announced against him and said that these accusations are used by the remnants of the regime to attack protesters in freedom and change squares around the country.

General Mohsen controls the military' northern-western region and defected from the government on March 18.

Saleh Authorizes his party to Conduct Negotiations with Opposition
President President-for-Life Ali Abdullah Saleh
... Saleh initially took power as a strongman of North Yemen in 1977, when disco was in flower...
said that he instructed his party to negotiate an agreement with the opposition to hold early presidential elections in Yemen.

In a speech on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr on Monday, he said, "the General People Congress party will be responsible to negotiate with the leaderships of the opposition parties, the foreign ministers of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), the ambassadors of the United States and the European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
to put an operational mechanism of the Gulf initiative and sign without delay."

Saleh added, "We are all able to find many constitutional vents that help us to overcome this crucial phase in the history of our people."

Huge demonstrations have taken place in the country for nearly seven months, demanding an end to the continued governance of Saleh who has been ruling Yemen for 33 years.

Saleh is still receiving treatment in Soddy Arabia after an liquidation attempt last June while he was performing Friday prayers along with senior state leaders who were maimed in the incident.

Recently Shura Council Chairman Abdul Aziz Abdul Ghani died as a result of the liquidation incident.

Yemen's Saleh commits to presidential elections: agency
Yemen's President President-for-Life Ali Abdullah Saleh
... Saleh initially took power as a strongman of North Yemen in 1977, when disco was in flower...
, who has clung to power despite a wave of protests against his 33-year rule, said on Monday he was committed to holding elections for a new president, the state news agency reported.

Saleh issued his statement from Soddy Arabia, where he has been for medical treatment since an liquidation attempt in June, saying the vote should be held as soon as possible.

A political source told Rooters that Saleh had reached an agreement with the opposition to hold the elections within three months, with power transferred to Vice President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi in the meantime.

"We have committed to the previous initiatives including the Gulf initiative and the efforts and statement of the (United Nations
...Parkinson's Law on an international scale...
) Security Council and to moving toward achieving ... as soon as possible arrangements to hold general and free and direct elections for the new president of the republic," Saleh said in the statement posted on the SABA news agency's website.

Soddy Arabia had led a Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) plan to end Yemen's political deadlock by easing Saleh out of office, but he backed out of signing the deal three times at the last minute, leaving Yemen in political limbo.

Last month the Security Council called for "an inclusive, orderly and Yemeni-led process of political transition."

The impoverished Arabian Peninsula country of 23 million people has been in turmoil since January when protesters erupted into the streets demanding Saleh leave office.

Saleh issued his statement to mark the Eid al-Fitr holiday which ends the Mohammedan fasting month of Ramadan and starts in Yemen on Tuesday, without saying when he would return.

On August 16, Saleh said he would "soon" go back to Yemen from Soddy Arabia where he is recovering from the liquidation attempt at his palace, reiterating he would hand over power "via elections, not via coups.

"In the shortest time possible we will find many constitutional ways which will help us to overcome this dangerous phase of the history of our people and which has come to threaten our unity and our freedom and our democracy," SABA quoted Saleh as saying in Monday's statement.

The opposition had previously refused to talk to the government until Saleh signed the transition plan.

Saleh Calls for Way to Implement Gulf's Yemen Plan
[An Nahar] President President-for-Life Ali Abdullah Saleh
... Saleh initially took power as a strongman of North Yemen in 1977, when disco was in flower...
, who has been out of Yemen for nearly three months, called on Tuesday for a mechanism to implement a Gulf plan aimed at a peaceful transition of power in his impoverished country.

Saleh, in a Riyadh hospital since June 4 after being maimed by a bomb in Sanaa, has so far refused to sign a plan proposed by the six Gulf monarchies calling for his resignation after protests against his rule erupted in January.

In an Eid al-Fitr speech carried by the official SABA news agency, Saleh said he has told his ruling General People's Congress to "make contact with the Common Forum to develop a mechanism for implementing the Gulf plan without delay."

The Common Forum, a coalition of the parliamentary opposition in Yemen, has refused to renegotiate the Gulf plan which it has already signed, holding Saleh responsible for the ongoing impasse.

The Gulf plan proposes that Saleh would transfer power to the vice president within 30 days in exchange for a promise of immunity from prosecution.

Saleh, while attacking his opponents whom he calls "criminals" and "coup plotters," also called for "national dialogue" to "set priorities in accordance with the constitution," referring to his presidential term which ends in 2013.

In his speech, Saleh urged his countrymen to "join forces against those who impede democracy in the country."

Saleh has appeared in good shape on state television
... and if you can't believe state television who can you believe?
in recent weeks but has so far ignored questions about his possible return to Yemen, an Arabian Peninsula country of some 24 million people and one of the world's poorest states.

Kosovar admits killing two US airmen in Frankfurt
A 21-year-old Albanian from Kosovo has confessed to killing two US airmen at Frankfurt airport, saying that he had been influenced by Islamist propaganda online.

Arid Uka is charged with two counts of murder for killing Nicholas J Alden, 25, from South Carolina, and Zachary R Cuddeback, 21, from Virginia in March of this year. He also faces three counts of attempted murder in connection with injuring two others.

Prosecutor Herbert Deimer told the court in Frankfurt that Uka went to the airport "to kill an indeterminate number of American soldiers, but if possible a large number".

Uka confessed to the killings after the indictment was read, saying: "What I did was wrong but I cannot undo what I did."

He encouraged other radical Muslims not to seek inspiration in his attack, telling them not to be deceived by "lying propaganda" on the internet. "To this day I try to understand what happened and why I did it ... but I don't understand."
Sounds like he's angling to get a less than fifteen year sentence in Germany...
Uka said he had become increasingly introverted in the months before the attack, staying at home and watching Islamist propaganda on the internet. On the night before the crime, he said he followed a link to a video posted on Facebook that supposedly showed American soldiers raping a teenage Muslim girl. It was actually a scene from Redacted, a 2007 anti-war film by Brian De Palma.

He said he then determined to anything possible to prevent more American soldiers from going to Afghanistan. "I thought what I saw in that video these people would do in Afghanistan," he told the court as he wiped away tears. Uka admitted that the airman driving the bus had not been going to Afghanistan, when asked by the prosecutor.

The indictment says Uka went to the airport armed with a pistol, extra ammunition and two knives. Inside, he spotted two US servicemen arriving and followed them to their US air force bus. Sixteen servicemen were on or near the bus.

Uka approached one of them for a cigarette. He confirmed they were US air force members en route to Afghanistan, then "turned around, put the magazine that had been concealed in his backpack into his pistol, and cocked the weapon", according to the indictment.

He first shot unarmed Alden in the back of the head. He then boarded the vehicle shouting "Allahu Akbar" and gunned down Cuddeback, who was the driver, before firing at others. He injured two others -- one victim has permanently lost sight in one eye -- before his gun jammed and he fled. Uka was then chased down and caught.

Many criminal Nazis spent their last days in such places. By 1970 few who did were still alive. German prison is not pleasant, like Sweden's.

1 Killed, 2 Injured in Shooting Near Copenhagen Mosque
[An Nahar] A shooting outside a Copenhagen mosque after prayers to mark the end of the Mohammedan fasting month of Ramadan has left one person dead and at least two people injured, police said Tuesday.

Police front man Lau Thygesen said the shooting took place outside the Mohammedan Culture Institute, located in the Danish capital's western Vesterbro district, and that the roads surrounding the mosque and a nearby car park have been cordoned off. Thygesen could not immediately provide more details.

A front man for the Mohammedan institute, who declined to give his name before hanging up the telephone, told The News Agency that Dare Not be Named that the incident took place on a parking lot next to the mosque as hundreds of people were leaving the 9 a.m. prayer service.

Kuran Qureshi, who attended the prayers, told Danish broadcaster TV2 in a live interview that he had witnessed two groups of "younger men having some kind of argument" on the parking lot just before the shooting started.
Just boys being boys, then. Stop being judgemental.
Qureshi said he had heard "15, maybe 20 shots," as he drove away from the area with his 10-year-old son. "I saw people, women, children ducking and hiding behind cars. It was really unpleasant."

The Mohammedan Cultural Institute was founded in the late 1970s by Pak immigrants. It includes a mosque as well as facilities where Islam is being taught to boys and girls in Danish.

Religion of Pieces Explodes at Another Mosque
A suicide bomber killed 11 people in a parking lot outside of a Shia mosque in Quetta, the provincial capital of Pakistan's Baluchistan province. The attack is the latest to take place at a mosque in Pakistan.

The suicide bomber entered a parking lot adjacent to the mosque and attempted to hit the building as worshipers were leaving after a service commemorating the end of Ramadan. The bomber detonated in the parking lot after he was unable to reach the mosque, killing 11 people, including two women and a child.
Killing women and kids is the traditional way to celebrate Ramedan? (I get cranky when I'm hungry, but this is ridiculous.)
Police said the corpse of the suicide bomber was seen in the wreckage of the car.

Today's suicide attack is the third in Asia to target Muslims as they celebrated the end of Ramadan.

Of course the unspoken BY MUSLIMS is underplayed. Kinda like black on black crime reporting. You can't tell the truth because it ruins the narrative.

Pisses me off because in the black case it very much diminishes the worth of the victims.

What makes you think the standard leftist reporters think black victims of crime have any worth to diminish, Alan?

Or blacks in general, for that matter? (Except as tools to beat other people over the head with.)

Leftists seem to think that non-white or non-Japanese minorities can't fend for themselves without Uncle Sugar holding their hands. >:-(

Execution postponed for ex-Indian PM's killers
[Dawn] Judges in Chennai on Tuesday delayed by two months the execution of three men convicted of the 1991 liquidation of former Indian prime minister Rajiv Gandhi.

The three men were due to be hanged on September 9 at a jail in the southern state of Tamil Nadu after India's president rejected their final mercy pleas earlier this month.

But the Chennai high court said it had "stayed the execution of the capital punishment by eight weeks" after a further round of appeals from lawyers and state politicians who oppose the executions.

The hangings would be the first in India since 2004, when a former security guard was hanged for the rape and murder of a 14-year-old schoolgirl.

Murugan, Santhan and Perarivalan -- all known by one name -- belonged to the now-defeated Tamil Tigers thug group of Sri Lanka, which was accused of plotting the murder of Gandhi by a female jacket wallah two decades ago.

Gandhi rose to become India's youngest-ever prime minister after his mother, former premier Indira Gandhi -- who was herself assassinated in October 1984 -- and he ruled until losing the 1989 election.

The shredded clothes and the shoes Gandhi was wearing when he was killed while on an election tour in southern India 20 years ago remain on display in a museum in the national capital New Delhi.

The separatist Tamil Tigers, who were wiped out in 2009 in a bloody offensive by Sri Lankan government troops, always denied involvement in Gandhi's liquidation.

But his killing was widely seen as retaliation for Gandhi sending Indian troops to Sri Lanka in 1987 when he was prime minister, in a failed attempt

to disarm the guerrillas.

Oddly enough the .38 actualy has a .357 Bore, exactly the same as the .357.
I know of No common pistol that has a .30 Caliber bore.
There ARE a few Rifles with that bore.

7 Killed as Syrian Security Forces Disperse Thousands of Demonstrators
[An Nahar] Syrian security forces opened fire Tuesday, killing seven people as they tried to disperse thousands of protesters rallying against the regime on the first day of the three-day Mohammedan holiday that marks the end of the fasting month of Ramadan, activists said.

The activists said security forces fired at protesters in the southern province of Daraa, in the central city of Homs and in the Damascus

suburbs following morning prayers marking Eid al-Fitr.

The Local Coordination Committees activist network said six protesters were killed in Daraa and one in Homs. An activist in Daraa confirmed the six deaths in Daraa province, saying four were killed in the village of al-Harra and two others in Inkhil.

The LCC said the deaths in al-Harra included a 13-year-old boy.

Pious Mohammedans traditionally visit cemeteries to pray for the dead on the first day of the Eid, and children get new clothes, shoes, haircuts and toys for the holiday.

On Tuesday, many in Syria visited graves of loved ones who have been killed in the five-month uprising against President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad

.
Human rights groups say Assad's forces have killed more than 2,000 civilians since the uprising erupted in March, touched off by the wave of revolutions sweeping the Arab world.

The government crackdown escalated dramatically at the start of Ramadan, a time of introspection and piety characterized by a dawn-to-dusk fast. Mohammedans typically gather in mosques during the month for special nightly prayers after breaking the fast, and the Assad government used deadly force to prevent such large gatherings from turning into more anti-government protests.

The LCC activist network said Syrians were keeping their Eid celebrations to a minimum this year in solidarity with the Syrians who have died and the families of detainees.

"There will be no happiness while the deaders' blood is still warm," it said in a statement Tuesday.

The Syrian government has placed severe restrictions on the media and expelled foreign news hounds, making it nearly impossible to independently verify witness accounts.

U.S. Blacklists Muallem, Shaaban, Syrian Envoy to Lebanon
[An Nahar] The U.S. Treasury Department slapped sanctions on Syria's foreign minister and two other brass hats Tuesday, adding new pressure on the embattled regime of President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
One of the last of the old-fashioned hereditary iron-fisted fascist dictators. Before going into the family business Pencilneck was an eye doctor...

Asset freezes and bans on business interactions were imposed on Foreign Minister Walid Muallem, top presidential advisor Buthaina Shaaban, and Syrian ambassador to Leb Ali Abdul Karim Ali, the Treasury said.

"Building on our sanctions targeting the entire government of Syria, we are bringing additional pressure to bear today directly on three senior Assad regime officials who are principal defenders of the regime's activities," said Treasury Under Secretary David Cohen.

The new sanctions follow an August 18 order signed by President Barack B.O. Obama that froze all Syrian state assets inside the United States and forbade investment and exports to the country, due to the Assad government's deadly crackdown on anti-government protesters.

It also banned imports of oil and gas from Syria, aiming to hurt a key revenue stream for the Assad regime.

The attacks on protesters "constitute an unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security, foreign policy and economy of the United States," the presidential order said.

#1  Americans were already outlawed from doing business with Syria years ago. Sounds like fluff from Treasury to give the appearance of action...

Yeah riiiight. They'll just jack up the prices for their Black market kick-backs. Hell, if anything, they'll prolly increase their "revenue stream". Besides, the Rooskies don't play that game.
