Three hard boyz die in sting op outside Tripoli
Three men suspected of planning bomb attacks were killed in a sting operation outside the capital on Sunday.
The sting operators might have reversed the red and green wires on the bombs to be delivered to the perps, just for fun...
"The brain of the operation refused to surrender and fought fiercely which resulted in the death of three people, including him," Saleh Darhoub, spokesman for the outgoing National Transitional Council (NTC) said.

Five members of the interior ministry brigade which carried out the bust were wounded. The clashes took place in a farm in Al Aziziya, 40 kilometers (25 miles) south of the capital, he added.

Darhoub said that the explosives discovered in the area matched those found by security forces who had foiled "seven bombing plots". He declined to give details on possible targets.

The sting operation came just one day after a gun battle and a car bomb rocked a market place in the centre of the Libyan capital, leaving one person wounded, according to medics and witnesses. On Sunday, armed assailants laid siege to a residence of Red Thingy Cross staff in the western Libyan city of Misrata, pushing the organization to suspend its work there and in the eastern city of Benghazi.

The organization condemned the attack saying it marked the fifth such incident in the two cities in less than three months. The NTC said it condemned the violence as "a government and a people".

Egypt Says Sinai Attack was Backed by Gaza Mortar Fire
[An Nahar] Egypt's army vowed Monday to "avenge" the killing of 16 troops by gunnies near the Israeli border, as President Mohammed Morsi ordered security forces to take full control of the Sinai Peninsula.

In Sunday's attack, 35 gunnies in Bedouin clothing opened fire on the troops before crossing into the Jewish state in an armored vehicle, Egyptian officials said. Israel said five gunnies were killed on its side.

"We swear in the name of God to avenge them," the Egyptian army said. "Egyptians will not have to wait long before they see a reaction to this attack by terrorists. Anyone liaising with these groups that have attacked our troops in the Sinai in recent months will pay dearly, be it inside Egypt or abroad."

Israel said two armored vehicles were seized, one of which went kaboom! by itself and the other destroyed by a helicopter. The Israeli army said it found the bodies of five gunnies.

"We were ready because we had previous information from Shin Bet (security service) and from military intelligence services, which allowed us to thwart a bloody attack," military front man Yoav Mordechai told Israeli army radio.

Gunmen aboard the armored vehicle "fired in every direction after entering Israeli territory before being attacked by tanks and from the air," said Mordechai.

They were "members of the global jihad based in Sinai, which has become a hothouse for world terrorism because of the weak control exercised" by Egypt, he added.

President Morsi said he had given "clear instructions" that Egypt must take "full control of the Sinai."

Morsi, who only took the oath of office on June 30 to become Egypt's first freely elected leader, said those who committed the "cowardly" attack and those who worked with them would pay dearly.

The Egyptian leader declared three days of mourning to honor the "deaders and maimed in the same way as deaders and maimed of the January 25 revolution" that toppled Mubarak.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed "regret" over the deaths of the Egyptian guards during a visit to the site with Defense Minister Ehud Barak.

"I think it is clear that Israel and Egypt have a common interest in keeping the border between us peaceful," Netanyahu said, adding the attack showed Israel could only rely on itself for its security.

"Nobody can fulfill this role other than the IDF (Israel Defense Forces) and the security services of the State of Israel and this is how we will continue to act."

Barak said the attempt was unlikely to be the last.

"I hope that this will be a wake-up call to the Egyptians regarding the need to be alert and effective on their side," his office quoted him as saying.

Egypt said 16 soldiers and border guards were killed, while another seven were maimed. Israel said nobody from the Jewish state was hurt.

Egypt's MENA news agency said the gunnies were "jihadists" who "infiltrated from Gazoo through tunnels in collaboration with jihadist elements in the al-Mahdiya and Gabal Halal areas" inside Egypt.

The Egyptian army said there were 35 gunnies, and that they were backed by mortar fire from the Gazoo Strip.

"Elements in the Gazoo Strip helped by firing mortars" during the "terrorist act" which was launched during "the iftar and the call to prayer" signaling the end of the daytime Moslem fast during Ramadan, it said.

State media said Egypt was closing "until further notice" its Rafah border post with Gazoo, the Paleostinian territory's only crossing outside Israeli control.

Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, dismissed the idea that cut-throats from inside Gazoo may have been involved, and put its security forces on full alert.

"The national security services are on a 100-percent state of alert to maintain common security between the Gazoo Strip and Egypt," said Hamas security chief Jamal al-Jarrah, accusing Israel of encouraging speculation that Gazooks were involved.

Mauritania to Try Libya Ex-spy Chief before Extradition
[An Nahar] Mauritania's president on Monday ruled out extraditing Luca Brasi Abdullah al-Senussi before the feared ex-spy chief for Muammar Qadaffy
... one of those little rainstorms from the Arab Spring...
faces trial in Mauritania for illegal entry.

"Senussi has problems with Mauritania's judiciary and has to face court for entering Mauritania under a false identity," President Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz said overnight during a local forum in the town of Atar.

"The passport Senussi used to enter Mauritania was not falsified but it presents him as Malian and under a fake name, which is why he must undergo trial in Mauritania," Abdel Aziz said.

Libya's new authorities last month dispatched Prime Minister Abdel Rahim al-Kib to Nouakchott to press for the extradition of Senussi, who is also wanted by the International Criminal Court
... where Milosevich died of old age before being convicted ...
in The Hague.

Senussi, the feared former right hand man of slain Libyan dictator Qadaffy, was cooled for a few years
Yez got nuttin' on me, coppers! Nuttin'!
in Mauritania in March and charged two months later for illegal entry and use of forged documents.

"This situation has been explained to the Libyan delegations who came to request extradition, as well as to La Belle France," where Senussi has been sentenced to life over the 1989 shooting down of a UTA airliner over the Tenere desert.

The plane was carrying 170 people from Brazzaville to Gay Paree via N'Djamena.

The International Criminal Court in June 2011 issued a warrant for Senussi, calling him an "indirect perpetrator of crimes against humanity, of murder and persecution based on political grounds" in the eastern Libyan city of Benghazi.

Benghazi was the birthplace of a revolt that started in February 2011 and eventually put an end to more than four decades of dictatorship in Libya, leading to the slaying of Qadaffy and the arrest of several of his allies.

Suicide Bomber in Nigeria Kills at Least 5 Soldiers
[An Nahar] A jacket wallah in a car rammed into a military patrol on Sunday in the northeastern Nigerian city of Damaturu, killing himself and at least five soldiers, a security source said.

"The attacker died in the kaboom and five soldiers were also killed," the source said on condition of anonymity.

There was no immediate claim for the attack, but it was similar to scores of others carried out by radical Islamist group Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
, whose insurgency has killed hundreds in Nigeria.

The state police commissioner, Patrick Egbuniwe, confirmed the kaboom and said that there were military casualties, without providing a figure.

He provided a slightly different version of events, saying the suicide bomber was being chased by a military patrol vehicle and the driver went kaboom!" when soldiers closed in on him.

However,
if you can't be a good example, then you'll just have to be a horrible warning...
the security source said the bomber in a sport-utility vehicle had been parked along the roadside and rammed into the multiple vehicle military convoy when it passed, affecting two of the vehicles.

Damaturu is located in Yobe state, which has been hard hit by attacks blamed on Boko Haram.

Sunday's attack follows a suicide bomber's attempt to assassinate Yobe state's top traditional Moslem leader, the Emir of Fika, on Friday.

The bomber sought to approach the emir after Friday prayers in the city of Potiskum but was pushed away. He went kaboom!" and maimed a number of others.

Authorities have been carrying out raids since the attempted attack in a bid to arrest suspected members of Boko Haram, which has claimed to be fighting for the creation of an Islamic state in Nigeria's mainly Moslem north.

The group is thought to include various factions with differing aims, however, and demands have repeatedly shifted.

In a video posted to YouTube on Saturday, the suspected leader of Boko Haram criticized U.S. President Barack Obama
I don't sit around just talking to experts because this is a college seminar, we talk to these folks because they potentially have the best answers, so I know whose ass to kick...
over Washington's decision to label him a "global terrorist".

It was unclear when the video was made, but it marked the first time Abubakar Shekau publicly addressed the terrorist designation slapped on him by the United States in June.

In addition to Shekau, the U.S. State Department also announced the designations for Abubakar Adam Kambar and Khalid al-Barnawi. Kambar and Barnawi were said to be linked to Boko Haram and Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb, al-Qaeda's north African branch.

The New York Times fastidiously reported that those in control, while Islamic hard boyz, are not in fact al-Qaeda, but something else that looks, tastes, smells, and acts the same. Sikh temple shooter had white supremacist ties: FBI
OAK CREEK, Wisconsin: US federal agents believe the slain suspect in a deadly attack on worshippers at a Sikh temple in Wisconsin had ties to white supremacist groups, a senior investigator said Monday. Special Agent Teresa Carlson, head of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Milwaukee field office, confirmed that 40-year-old suspect Wade Michael Page is the subject of a “domestic terrorism” probe following Sunday’s massacre.

“We are looking at ties to white supremacist groups,” Carlson told a news conference on the day after Sunday’s shooting, in which six people attending a service at a suburban Sikh temple were shot dead.

“We did not have an active investigation on him before yesterday,” she said. “No law enforcement agency had any reason to believe he was plotting anything.

“We are working on it as a possible domestic terrorism case,” she added. “The definition of domestic terrorism is the use of violence for social or political gain. That’s obviously what we are looking at.”

She said that the firearm retrieved at the scene of the shooting was a 9mm handgun that had been purchased legally and that the shooter had had several magazines with which to reload the weapon.

Officers had searched his home, which was not booby-trapped.

“We don’t have any reason to believe there was anyone else associated with this shooting,” Carlson said. “We are continuing to work and if there is anybody we will identify them”

Delhi blast mastermind, associate killed
[Daily Excelsior] In a major success, police and Army today bumped off two hardcore Death Eaters of Hizbul Mujahideen outfit and apprehended another alive in a three hours long encounter at Leddri forests in Dachchan area of Kishtwar district this morning. One of the slain Death Eaters Aamir Ali Kamaal alias Aamir alias Akram son of Ali Mohammad Kamaal R/o Kitchloo Mohalla, Kishtwar was prime accused in September 7, 2011 blast at Delhi High Court in which 14 persons were killed and scores of others were maimed.

He carried a reward of Rs 20 lakh on his head--10 lakh each from National Investigating Agency (NIA), which has been investigating Delhi High Court blast and Rs 10 lakh from the State Government.

Aamir Ali was the first accused of Delhi High Court blast, who has been killed by Doda police while three others had been jugged
Don't shoot, coppers! I'm comin' out!
earlier in Kishtwar and handed over to the NIA. Four accused were still on the lam including Junaid Akram Malik and Shakir Hussain alias Chota Hafiz of Kishtwar, Abu Saifullah and Abu Billal, both Paks. While Malik and Hafiz were operating in upper reaches of Kishtwar, whereabouts of the Paks were unknown. Aamir had helped the two Paks execute the blast.

IGP Jammu Dilbagh Singh told news hounds here this afternoon that police and Army had laid a cordon at Leddri forests in Dachchan area, located at the heights of Kishtwar districts last evening after developing specific input about the movement of Aamir along with his two associates.

With the onset of dawn today, a team of Doda police and 10 Rashtriya Rifles established a contact with the Death Eaters at 6 am resulting into heavy exchange of gun fighting that continued for three hours in which two Death Eaters were killed and their third associate was captured.

Mr Singh described the killing of Aamir Ali as a big success of Death Eaters as he was among the prime accused in Delhi High Court blast of September 7, 2011 in which 14 persons were killed and scores of others were maimed.

DIG Doda-Ramban range, Gareeb Dass and SSP Doda Arif Reshu supervised the operation.

The IGP Jammu said Doda and Kishtwar police was hunting the Death Eaters involved in Delhi High Court blast for the past quite sometime and a number of times they had skipped the cordon as the cops wanted to capture the ultras alive to help the NIA workout the blast mystery completely. Even today, he added, police gave enough time to Aamir Ali to surrender but he continued firing after which police retaliated and bumped off the two thugs.

The DIG Doda range identified the slain Death Eaters as Aamir Ali Kamaal code Aamir code Akram son of Ali Mohammad Kamaal R/o Kitchloo Mohalla, Kishtwar and Mohammad Shaffi Hajam code Saqib son of Mohammad Sultan Hajam R/o Bangam Quderna, Marwah, Kishtwar. The thug, who was captured alive, has been identified as Sajjad Ahmed alias Rezwan, a resident of Dachchan, Kishtwar.

All of them were affiliated with Hizbul Mujahideen outfit and were involved in a series of subversive activities. Of three, only Aamir Ali was an accused in Delhi High Court blast.

"The operation was executed meticulously and there were no casualties on police or Army'', Gareeb Dass said, adding that two AK-47 rifles, three magazines, 15 rounds, one Chinese pistol and one magazine were recovered from the site of encounter.

The thug, who was captured alive, was being shifted to a safer location for sustained interrogation to extract clues about four other Death Eaters wanted to the NIA in connection with Delhi High Court blast.

Police have sounded the NIA about the killing of Aamir Ali in the encounter. A team of the NIA was expected to reach Doda and Kishtwar shortly to get details on Aamir's killing and extract clues from captured Hizbul Mujahideen ultra, Rezwan.

Sources said there were three Hizbul Mujahideen thugs, operating in Kishtwar, who were wanted to NIA in Delhi High Court blast. They included Aamir Ali Kamaal (killed today), Junaid Akram Malik and Shakir Hussain alias Chotta Haafiz son of Naseer Ahmad R/o Daji, Palmar, Kishtwar. Malik was also a resident of Kishtwar but his family had shifted to Bhatindi in Jammu.

All three carried a reward of Rs 20 lakh each on their head. The NIA had announced a reward of Rs 10 lakh on each of the three thugs. The State Government had also announced an equal amount making it Rs 60 lakh for three NIA wanted thugs.

Kishtwar police and NIA had jugged
Don't shoot, coppers! I'm comin' out!
three thugs, all residents of Kishtwar last year in connection with the blast. Others were still on the lam and in the absence of more arrests, the NIA had not been able to work out the blast mystery.

Police sources here said Aamir Ali Kamaal had played a major role in Delhi High Court blast.

"It was Aamir Ali, who had made all arrangements for stay and movement of two Pak Death Eaters Abu Billal and Abu Saifullah, both Paks from Kishtwar to New Delhi along with bombs. He had also arranged vehicle and other infrastructure for the two Paks'', sources said, adding the whereabouts of both of them were not known since then.

Abu Saifullah was also instrumental in a powerful blast at Udhampur in which a senior Army officer of Northern Command had a narrow escape. He had triggered blast in a car with a remote control device and escaped. Aamir Ali had given shelter to Saifullah and another Pak Abu Billal and also arranged a joint meeting of top brass of Hizbul Mujahideen in a house at Kishtwar town in which a final touch was given to the blast at Delhi High Court.

Sources said police and Army made all out efforts to capture Aamir Ali alive but he failed to give up and continued to rain bullets on the security personnel, leaving no other option for them but to eliminate him along with his associate.

They added that police would now try to capture alive Junaid Akram Malik and Chotta Hafiz to ensure that the NIA managed to get clues from them to work out the blast mystery completely. They said the arrest of the duo could also give police some clues about two Pak thugs, who had played crucial part in Delhi High Court blast.

Sources said Aamir Ali was an active thug since 2008 and was involved in seven militancy related incidents including the killing of police constable Bashir Ahmad. Hajam had joined militancy in July 20910 while Rezwan was an active thug since 2004 and was involved in 12 militancy related incidents including killings, kidnappings and attacks.

In his chat with news hounds, the IGP Jammu said with the killing of two Death Eaters and arrest of another, 27 Death Eaters were left in Jammu region.

Dilbagh Singh said police have intensified security arrangements for this year's Independence Day as some mischief from across the border was not ruled out in view of detection of tunnel in Samba sector and firing by the Rangers last night in Arnia sector.

He said deployment has been strengthened in border belt while IRP personnel have been inducted in the City. He added that Close Circuit Televisions (CCTVs) have also been activated at sensitive places in Jammu region to keep a vigil on anti-national elements.

So far, 150 CCTVs have been installed while more others would be in place shortly.

This was second major success of Doda-Kishtwar police in past few days. Prior to this, Kishtwar police had helped Mumbai police solved murder mystery of Bollywood starlet Laila Khan and her five family members by arresting the main accused, Parvez Ahmad Tak.

The IGP Jammu said group of five armed Death Eaters was sighted along Indo-Pak border during the Pak firing in Arnia last night.

"Yesterday, there was heavy (Pak) firing in Arnia belt (along Indo-Pak border in Jammu sector). It was reported that a group of five armed persons was sighted (along Indo-Pak border)", Singh said.

"If such an attempt to push in an armed Death Eaters group from across to this side to trigger the act of militancy is successful, it will be dangerous," he said.

"We will take strongest security measures to ensure incident-free and smooth I-day passage," he said.

"August 15 period is very sensitive...Some days back a tunnel from Pakistain was detected in Samba, which is serious issue for security...It is a big tunnel," Mr Singh.

"Keeping in view all these aspects we have reviewed the security in Jammu city and other places and sanitised the officers in this regard," Dilbagh Singh said.

Singh said security along the bordering belts has been tightened.

"We are alert and security along the border and within the Jammu city has been put in place with additional deployment," he said.

"All the entry and exit points along the border have been equipped with additional deployment of force while special check points have also been raised to monitor suspicious movement of vehicles," he said.

Singh said 'damaged' closed circuit cameras are also being repaired to maintain surveillance in the region.

The shooting took place in Jamrud area of Khyber district, where Taliban and local Islamist militia are active.

Blast Interrupts Iraq-Turkey Oil Pipeline
[An Nahar] An overnight blast in southeastern Turkey interrupted oil flow from Iraq, a Turkish energy ministry official said Monday.

The blast hit the Kirkuk-Ceyhan pipeline in Mardin province close to Turkey's border with Syria and repairs are expected to take up to 10 days, the official added on customary condition of anonymity.

The 970-kilometre (600-mile) pipeline runs from Iraq's northern oil hub of Kirkuk to the port of Ceyhan on Turkey's Mediterranean coast, pumping 450,000 to 500,000 barrels of crude oil per day.

Al Qaeda prisoners try to tunnel out of Abu Ghraib
[NY Post] A group of al Qaeda prisoners was caught trying to tunnel out of Iraq's Abu Ghraib prison, an official said on Sunday, after the Death Eaters said they would step up their fight against the government.

Jail breaks are common in Iraq and security at prisons was beefed up this week after five Death Eaters stormed a police counter-terrorism headquarters on Tuesday in an attempt to free al Qaeda prisoners. All five were killed in a long shootout.

A front man for the justice ministry, Haider al-Saadi, said in a statement that 11 "dangerous prisoners" at Abu Ghraib dug down three meters and had tunneled along 20 meters using a frying pan and part of a ceiling fan before they were discovered.

They had fashioned breathing apparatus from soft-drink cans stuck end to end.

Another official in the ministry told Rooters that the men were al Qaeda members. The high security prison, notorious for abuse both during the rule of Saddam Hussein and under U.S. occupation, houses several thousand convicted cut-thoats.

"The late shift guard around midnight on Saturday heard some banging and digging under the concrete," Saadi said. "The guards then conducted an arrest operation ...in a professional way by filling the tunnel with water to force them out."

Three Dead in Breakaway Rebel Attack in Philippines
[An Nahar] A breakaway group of Moslem rebels used chainsaws to launch simultaneous attacks across 11 towns in the southern Philippines Monday, leaving at least three dead, officials said.

A civilian died in crossfire, while the army said the bodies of two Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) had been recovered hours after the attacks in Maguindanao province.

The rebels used chainsaws to bring down electricity pylons before dawn, plunging several towns into darkness, and then opened fire on army detachments, police and the military said.

"Sporadic heavy fighting
... as opposed to the more usual light or desultory fighting...
continued in the morning, but we set up roadblocks while the military went after the rebels," provincial police chief Senior Superintendent Marcelo Pintac told AFP.

"They used chainsaws to sabotage the power lines. Heavy fighting
... as opposed to the more usual name-calling or slapsy...
is ongoing," he added.

He said the rebels were also believed to have planted improvised bombs along a major highway that runs through the strife-torn province of Maguindanao, where the fighting erupted.

At least six armored vehicles were seen rolling down the highway as attack helicopters flew overhead, while kabooms and machine-gun fire echoed in the distance.

Provincial governor Esmael Mangudadatu said "hundreds" of villagers were believed to have fled their homes as government forces repelled the rebels.

"They sabotaged power lines and attacked 11 towns. We are now largely in control except for a section of the highway that remains closed," he said.

The governor said he was asking the rebel fighters to call a truce but advised commuters to avoid the area.

The government's chief presidential adviser on the grinding of the peace processor, Teresita Deles, said the attack was apparently meant to derail negotiations with the larger, more mainstream Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF).

The BIFF is headed by Ameril Umbrakato, a hardline Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in their national face...
n-educated guerrilla who split from the 12,000-strong MILF after it dropped its bid for full independence to negotiate for an autonomous region.

Umbrakato has boasted of having about 5,000 armed fighters, though military officials believe he only has a few hundred under his command.

"This act of aggression... is meant to derail the grinding of the peace processor," Deles said in a statement, as she sought to assure the public the violence would not affect a new round of talks set to resume in Malaysia this week.

Umbrakato had previously accused his former comrades of betraying the rebellion's ultimate goal of an independent Islamic state in the troubled south.

The government has said it hopes to sign a peace deal with the MILF by the end of the year, but has asked the MILF leadership to help contain Umbrakato's forces. BIFF opposes peace talks with the government.

The Moslem insurgency on the island of Mindanao began in the early 1970s and the fighting has killed some 150,000 people, miring large parts of the south in deep poverty.

Abu Misri, a front man for Umbrakato, told AFP by phone that the attack was launched to avenge the alleged unprovoked killing of a BIFF member by troops in June.

He said his men were under instructions not to stand down, despite rebel positions being pounded by helicopter gunships.

"We are not harming civilians. But we are prepared to die," he said.

600 Palestinian Families Flee Syria to Lebanon in 3 Days
[An Nahar] Some 600 Paleostinian families have arrived in Leb from Syria, most of them fleeing violence at the Yarmuk refugee camp in Damascus,
...Capital of the last overtly fascist regime in the world...
a Paleostinian official in Leb said on Sunday.

"Some 600 Paleostinian families have arrived in Leb's Paleostinian refugee camps in the past three days," said Marwan Abdel Aal of the Lebanese branch of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Paleostine.
... Paleostinian Marxist movement, founded in 1967. It is considered a terrorist organization by more than 30 countries including the U.S., European Union, Australia, Canada, and Antarctica. The PFLP's stated goal is the establishment of a socialist State in Paleostine. They pioneered armed aircraft hijackings in the late 60s and early 70s...
"Most of these families came from Yarmuk camp," he added.

On Thursday, 21 people were killed in Yarmuk when regime forces shelled the area, according to the Britannia-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

"Most of the families have sought shelter in the Jalil and Taalabaya camps in the Bekaa region" of eastern Leb, Abdel Aal told Agence La Belle France Presse.

"Another 50 families went to Nahr al-Bared (north Leb), 28 went to Baddawi (north), while the rest went to Ain al-Hilweh near Sidon," in the South, he added.

Abdel Aal said the recent violence had triggered an exodus from the Yarmuk camp sheltering people displaced from the central Syrian city of Homs, and families forced by festivities to leave their homes in parts of Damascus.

The Paleostinian official said there were fears that more families would make their way to Leb in the coming days.

"There are still families on the Syrian side of the border, waiting for permission from the Syrian authorities to cross over," Abdel Aal said.

He went on to say that once in Leb, Paleostinian refugees residing in Syria faced another difficulty, as they only have the right to remain in Leb for one week.

Abdel Aal noted that Paleostinian organizations have held several meetings with Lebanese officials, along with the United Nations
...the Oyster Bay money pit...
Relief and Works Agency, or UNRWA.

"We are looking for ways to enable them to stay for three months," said Abdel Aal.

Syrian National Council: 40 Killed in 'Hama Massacre'
[An Nahar] Syria's exiled opposition accused the government on Monday of killing 40 people in a massacre in a central town in a bid to terrorize people into flight to change the confessional balance of the region.

The Syrian National Council said that a further 120 people were maimed in the attack by troops and militia on Harbnafsa, in Hama province, a town of some 8,000 inhabitants.

"Regime forces bombarded the town... with tanks and heavy weapons for five hours straight," the SNC said. "They then stormed the town."

The group said the government's "criminality and desire to commit murder and instill terror has reached such a point that the military and security services, as well as the shabiha (loyalist militia) from nearby... villages, chased fleeing townspeople with knives and live ammunition."

Condemning what it described as a "barbaric massacre," the SNC said the killings were a result of "a clear policy of displacement."

Rural areas of Hama province have suffered a series of massacres in recent months, frequently involving pro-government militia, according to opposition activists and human rights
...which are usually open to widely divergent definitions...
monitors.

The province is confessionally mixed, with some areas Sunni Moslem and others made up of members of the minority Alawite community of Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Leveler of Latakia...

The opposition accuses the government of deliberately stoking sectarian tensions and of unleashing mainly Alawite militia in a bid to drive out Sunnis.

The Britannia-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported the killing of a total of 11 civilians in Harbnafsa, including five children, in violence on Sunday and Monday.

It is impossible to independently verify corpse counts out of Syria. The United Nations
...an organization whose definition of human rights is interesting, to say the least...
has stopped giving figures.

Bomb Rocks Syria TV Headquarters in Damascus, Causing Casualties
[An Nahar] A kaboom rocked the headquarters of Syrian state television
... and if you can't believe state television who can you believe?
in the heart of Damascus
...Capital of the last remaining Baathist regime in the world...
on Monday wounding several people, Information Minister Omran al-Zoabi said.

"It is clear that the blast was caused by an bomb," Zoabi said. "Several of our colleagues were maimed, but there were no serious injuries, and no dead."

The broadcaster said that the blast hit the third floor of its headquarters. It remained on the air despite the bombing.

The television building lies in the Omayyad district of Damascus, a highly guarded area surrounded by multiple security barriers.

The bombing was not the first attack on the pro-government media in Syria.

On June 27, gunnies armed with explosives attacked the offices outside Damascus of the al-Ikhbariya satellite channel outside Damascus killing three journalists and four security guards.
