-Lurid Crime Tales-
Former Navy Seal Consulate Attack Victim
Working as security, was he ordered to provide security unarmed by the State Department?
Glen Doherty, a former Navy SEAL from Massachusetts, was one of the victims of the deadly attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, a family friend confirmed to Fox News.

Doherty is the latest victim to be identified. The U.S. government earlier confirmed that U.S. Ambassador to Libya Christopher Stevens and Sean Smith, a foreign service information management officer, died in the attack.

The name of the fourth American who died in the attack has not been disclosed.

The Boston Globe first reported that Doherty was among the victims. His sister told the Globe that Doherty, 42, was working for a private company providing security at the time.

A former ski instructor in Utah, Doherty reportedly trained as a sniper and medical officer after joining the Navy SEALs. He served for seven years before leaving to work at the private security firm.

According to FOX5 in San Diego, Doherty lived in Encintas, Calif., after leaving the Navy. He worked at the CrossFIT/SEALFIT gym as well as security firms.

Based on an account of the Benghazi attack provided by senior administration officials, Doherty was one of two people who died while trying to take cover from gunfire in the annex near the main U.S. consulate building. At least three others were wounded in the attack.

#1  I was a proud veteran
That served my country well
To those that would listen
I had many stories to tell.

We fought for America's freedom
In far away places on foreign land.
Wherever the battle for democracy raged,
America's finest made a stand.

We fought for your future
And the right to remain free.
For we saw what freedom meant
To those not blessed with Liberty.

For you and yours
We would gladly have given our life.
We faced the fears and perils of battle
We braved endless turmoil and strife.

Please remember us veterans
And the sacrifices we made for you.
Please share the blessing of freedom.
Proudly wave the red, white and blue.

Afghanistan
Afghanistan Bans YouTube over Anti-Islam Film
[An Nahar] The Afghan government on Wednesday banned YouTube from the country for the first time to prevent people from watching an anti-Islam film which sparked a riot in Libya that killed the U.S. ambassador and three other American diplomats.

"Following instructions by the ministry of information and culture, the ministry of communication has ordered all service providers to block YouTube access," communications ministry official Aimal Marjan told AFP.

He said the block had been ordered "until YouTube removes this abusive film".

The Afghan presidency earlier condemned the film as "inhuman and insulting," calling for it not to be broadcast.

It was made by an Israeli-American and describes Islam as a "cancer" and depicts the Prophet Mohammed sleeping with women, the Wall Street Journal reported.

It has been promoted by controversial U.S. pastor Terry Jones, who has drawn protests for burning the Koran and vehemently opposing the construction of a mosque near Ground Zero in New York.

The communications ministry official said the ban may be lifted if video-sharing website YouTube bans access to the film.

"It seems YouTube has removed all searches for Prophet Mohammed. We may lift the ban soon if it is confirmed that YouTube has banned access to this trailer," Marjan told AFP.

At least one Internet user in Kabul confirmed to AFP that he lost access to the website about an hour before the announcement was made public.

Hundreds Protest at U.S. Embassy in Khartoum
[An Nahar] Hundreds of protesters upset over a movie mocking Islam demonstrated outside the American embassy in Sudan on Wednesday, an embassy official said, after attacks on U.S. missions in Libya and Egypt.

"I do believe it was a few hundred," the official said, asking for anonymity. "Our compound was not breached."

He said the demonstrators were upset by the same film which prompted a mob attack late Tuesday on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya, which killed Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans.

Sudan's foreign ministry expressed "great sorrow" over what it said are escalating insults to Islam in some Western countries, but it also rejected attacks against innocent people unconnected with the slurs.

The amateur American-made Internet video film at the center of the controversy, "Innocence of Moslems", portrays Moslems as immoral and gratuitously violent.

Somalia's New Leader Survives Terrorist Attack
[ABC News] Somalia?s new president survived an liquidation attempt on his second day in office when two jacket wallahs blew themselves up Wednesday while trying to gain access into a heavily guarded hotel that is his temporary residence, officials and witnesses said.

The attack highlights the challenge that insecurity caused by an Islamist insurgency poses to Somalia?s fledgling government, which is expected to help transform the east African country from being a failed state to one with functioning government.

The African Union
...a union consisting of 53 African states, most run by dictators of one flavor or another. The only all-African state not in the AU is Morocco. Established in 2002, the AU is the successor to the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), which was even less successful...
Mission for Somalia said one of its soldiers was killed when the two suicide kaboomers attempted to penetrate the Jazeera Hotel where the President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and Kenya?s foreign minister were giving a news conference.

The two suicide bombers set off kabooms after they were shot by soldiers guarding the Jazeera Hotel, while another was intercepted and rubbed out as he attempted to scale the walls of the hotel?s compound, the African Union Mission for Somalia, known as Amisom, said in a statement.

Witnesses say at least one more person was killed, bringing the total corpse count to a minimum of five, including the three attackers.

Egyptian protesters, police continue to clash near U.S. Embassy
As Egypt's security forces fired tear gas Thursday to disperse rock-throwing crowds near the U.S. Embassy here, President Mohamed Morsi condemned attacks on American missions in his country and Libya.

Two days after protesters scaled the embassy's walls to take down the U.S. flag, hundreds of people clashed with security forces in downtown Cairo. As the scuffles have continued throughout the day, about 70 people have been injured, among them members of security forces, according to the state-run news agency.

The protests purportedly were initially sparked by anger over a video produced in the United States that many Muslims deem insulting to the prophet Muhammad and Islam.

On Thursday, live video from Cairo showed hundreds of protesters chanting as they charged at security forces on the outskirts of the embassy: "With our soul, our blood, weĀ’ll sacrifice ourselves for you, prophet."

But unlike earlier in the week, the protesters clashing with security forces on Thursday were primarily street youths and so-called soccer hooligans with no clear political affiliation.
Security forces managed to push the protesters away toward the outskirts of Tahrir Square, the epicenter of the 18-day uprising that toppled President Hosni Mubarak early last year.

Despite the ongoing violence, the Muslim Brotherhood continued to call for peaceful protests across Egypt on Friday to denounce the film.

#2  Not quite like Mogadishu: in Mog we had plenty of resources, and supposedly had the UN forces (including our bestest friends, the mighty Pak army) backing us up.

Whereas in Benghazi we didn't have much to assist the ambassador when things went bad. That is a problem but we can't have a SEAL team at every consulate just in case.

We'll find out if the intel boys blew it, or whether the ambassador had too optimistic expectations of security, or whether Foggy Bottom misread the situation. But this doesn't sound like Mog.

Libyan Assembly Elects Mustafa Abu Shagur as Prime Minister
Mr Shagur's victory was in part due to the support of deputies from the Muslim Brotherhoods' Justice and Construction Party, AFP news agency says.

Mr Shagur studied at the University of Tripoli before moving to the US, where he earned a PhD and worked as an academic and optical engineer.

He returned in 2011 to become an adviser to the National Transitional Council, which was formed during the revolt that ousted Gaddafi.

Last November, he was appointed deputy to Prime Minister Abdurrahim al-Keib.

Protest Filmmaker in Hiding, 'Upset' by U.S. Ambassador's Death
[An Nahar] The director of a film that sparked protests in the Middle East is "upset" at the death of the U.S. ambassador to Libya and has gone into hiding, a consultant on the project said Wednesday.

"He's very upset that the ambassador got murdered," Steve Klein told Agence La Belle France Presse, adding that he had spoken to filmmaker Sam Bacile by phone earlier in the day, but did not know his location.

When Bacile was told about the death of U.S. ambassador to Libya Chris Stevens, "he melted, he fell apart," added Klein, who said he was one of some 15 people behind the film, "Innocence of Mohammedans."

Bacile -- not his real name, according to Klein -- is concerned about family members in Egypt. "They're underground too, in hiding, he said.

He added that the reported Israeli-American director could suffer the same fate as Dutch filmmaker Theo Van Gogh, who was assassinated in 2004 after triggering protests with an anti-Mohammedan film.
According to Ay Pee, the director is not Israeli at all, this was probably originally intended as a check kiting scheme gone awry...and it is highly likely the most offensive dialog was dubbed during post-production.

#1  Methinks it was intended to be a cover for a terrorist act all along.

Everything is too well coordinated. The film was only shown once, how the heck did it get on the internet, how did these guys FIND it.

This is all too coincidental to be a coincidence.

The movie was made to be an excuse for a terrorist act and intended to damage our relations in the ME.

The "reaction" is just another episodic recruiting drive for JIHAD. However, wouldn't be surprised if the dubbing had actually been done by jihadis to enhance the movie's effect.

U.S. Marine Anti-Terrorism Team Heads to Libya
[An Nahar] The United States is deploying a U.S. Marine anti-terrorism team to Libya to bolster security after a deadly attack on the American consulate in Benghazi, a U.S. defense official said Wednesday.

"The Marines are sending a FAST (Fleet Anti-terrorism Security Team) team to Libya," the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told AFP.

The decision to move the roughly 50-member unit to Libya comes after Washington's ambassador to Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of thich is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
and three other Americans were killed when a mob stormed the U.S. consulate in Benghazi.

The crowd had been angered over an amateur American-made film mocking Islam, after video clips from the movie had been posted on the Internet.

The low-budget movie, "Innocence of Mohammedans," in which actors have strong American accents, portrays Mohammedans as immoral and gratuitously violent.

President Barack Obama
I mean, I do think at a certain point you've made enough money...
quickly ordered increased security at U.S. diplomatic posts around the world, while denouncing Tuesday's deadly assault in Benghazi -- an Islamist stronghold in eastern Libya -- which coincided with the anniversary of the September 11 attacks in the United States.

U.S. Marines and private contractors are charged with safeguarding diplomatic posts abroad and it was unclear how the attackers managed to breach security.

The Fleet Anti-terrorism Security Teams, under the authority of the U.S. Navy's chief of operations, were formed in 1987 to provide a fast response to security threats after a series of terror attacks in the 1980s and 1970s.

"These companies are called on to protect forces and installations when a heightened security threat requires it," states the unit's website.

Libyan Guards Were Killed in U.S. Consulate Attack
[An Nahar] Libyan security guards were killed and maimed trying to defend U.S. ambassador Chris Stevens during the attack in Benghazi in which the U.S. diplomat died, a Libyan U.N. envoy said Wednesday.

Ibrahim Dabbashi, Libya's deputy U.N. ambassador, told news hounds that up to 10 Libyan security personnel were casualties of the attack on Tuesday. "Some of them have been killed at the start of the attack," he said.

U.N. Assistant Secretary General Jeffrey Feltman told the U.N. Security Council he had "seen reports that Libyan security personnel were also killed" in the attack.

Stevens was among four U.S. diplomats killed in Benghazi by a mob who stormed the U.S. consulate after allegedly being angered by a movie mocking Islam.

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton
... sometimes described as For a good time at 3 a.m. call Hillary and at other times as Mrs. Bill, never as Another John Marshall ...
also hinted at the role played by Libyan guards.

"Heavily armed snuffies assaulted the compound and set fire to our buildings. American and Libyan security personnel battled the attackers together," Clinton said in Washington.

Dabbashi said he did not have an exact number for the Libyan guards who were hit. He paid an emotional tribute to Stevens, who was sent to Libya as opposition forces battled former dictator Muammar Qadaffy
...a proud Arab institution for 42 years, now among the dear departed, though not the dearest...
"The ambassador was a friend of Libya. He was always shoulder-to-shoulder with us when we had to face murder and destruction during the reign of the despot," the Libyan envoy said.

Moroccans Protest against Film Outside U.S. Consulate in Casablanca
[An Nahar] Hundreds of Moslems protested on Wednesday outside the U.S. consulate in Morocco's largest city Casablanca to decry a film deemed insulting to Islam that already sparked deadly violence in Libya, an Agence La Belle France Presse photographer reported.

The protesters, numbering between 300 and 400 mostly young activists, gathered around 200 meters (yards) from the consulate amid a heavy police presence.

Some shouted anti-U.S. slogans, including "Death to Obama!", but without resorting to violence.

Tunis Police Disperse Salafist Protesters Outside U.S. Embassy
[An Nahar] Tunisian police on Wednesday fired tear gas to disperse hundreds of Salafist demonstrators outside the U.S. embassy in Tunis gathered to condemn a film deemed offensive to Islam, an Agence La Belle France Presse photographer said.

He said the intervention came as the demonstrators, estimated to number 300, started to try to break through the gates of the embassy compound after having demonstrated peacefully for several hours outside.

An AFP photographer said men and women protesters carrying black and white salafist flags had massed outside the diplomatic compound.

Police deployed reinforcements at the already highly secure embassy blockhouse, with a military vehicle standing guard outside and cycle of violence units patrolling the area.

A source inside the compound told AFP the embassy was working as normal on Wednesday despite the violence in Libya and Egypt.

On Tuesday, U.S. ambassador to Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of thich is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
Chris Stevens and three other Americans were killed in the eastern Libyan city of Benghazi when an armed mob stormed the American consulate there, torching the building after ransacking and looting it.

And in Cairo, several thousand people stormed the American embassy in a similar protest against the amateur American-made Internet video called "Innocence of Moslems."

Attack on US ambassador planned: report
[NY Post] Tuesday night's deadly assault that killed the American ambassador to Libya and three other Americans was planned by attackers who used protests as a diversion, sources told CNN today.
Libyan authorities are no doubt rounding them up now, and not being gentle in the process...
Earlier reports said the Americans were killed when a mob of protesters and gunmen overwhelmed the US Consulate in Benghazi, setting fire to it in outrage over a film that ridicules Islam's Prophet Muhammad.
In civilized countries, if you don't like a movie the appropriate response is not to go to see it. If it's all that offensive you can make a movie to counter it.
Libya's new president apologized Wednesday for the attack, which underlined the lawlessness plaguing a region trying to recover from months of upheaval.
Thanx for the apologies. When are the hangings?
Ambassador Chris Stevens, 52, died as he and a group of embassy employees went to the consulate to try to evacuate staff as a crowd of hundreds attacked the consulate Tuesday evening, many of them firing machine-guns and rocket-propelled grenades.
Y'see, when they went to make their movie to counter the one they didn't like they, too, were met with... Ummm... No. They weren't.
By the end of the assault, much of the building was burned out and trashed. Stevens was the first US ambassador to be killed in the line of duty since 1979.
What's that line in the Marine hymn? Oh, yes: "... to the shores of Tripoli." They did something there. And when Qadaffy's evil minions kaboomed a disco in Berlin the U.S. Air Force and the Navy took offense and did things to Tripoli again.
A Libyan doctor who treated Stevens said he died of severe asphyxiation, apparently from smoke.
... or from hard boyz taking turns standing on his chest...
In a sign of the chaos during the attack, Stevens was brought alone by Libyans to the Benghazi Medical Center with no other Americans, and no one at the facility knew who he was, the doctor, Ziad Abu Zeid, told The Associated Press.
Those who brought him should be rewarded. Those who made the trip necessary need to be killed, preferably brutally.
Stevens was practically dead when he arrived close to 1 a.m. on Wednesday, but "we tried to revive him for an hour and a half but with no success," Abu Zeid said. The ambassador had bleeding in his stomach because of the asphyxiation but no other injuries, he said.
I'm not an M.D., but I happen to know that internal bleeding is one of the signs of someone standing on your abdomen.
President Obama ordered increased security to protect American diplomatic personnel around world.
"And Braddock? Tell them to check and make sure all those barn doors are locked!"
"Of course, Your Excellency!"

Hours before the Benghazi attack, Egyptians angry over the film protested at the US Embassy in Cairo, climbing its walls and tearing down an American flag, which they replaced briefly with a black, Islamist flag.
Well, that kinda indicates who it was that violated our sovreign territory.
"I strongly condemn the outrageous attack on our diplomatic facility in Benghazi," Obama said,
"Even as I speak these words, a strong, strong letter is being staffed!!
adding the four Americans "exemplified America's commitment to freedom, justice, and partnership with nations and people around the globe."
"But we can't blame Moslems for what they do in the name of their religion! They're not responsible for their acts!"

#1  Report: Egyptian Intelligence Warned of Embassy Attacks as Early as Sept 4

Israeli sources have revealed that Egypt's General Intelligence warned jihadists were planning attacks on U.S. and Israeli embassies as early as a week before they occurred on the anniversary of Al Qaeda's 9/11 terror attacks.

The report indicated that the group behind the attacks was Global Jihad. This group is now supsected in the deaths of 16 Egyptian border guards in Sinai -- deaths for which some Egyptian officials originally blamed Israel.

A letter from Egyptian intelligence warning of pending attacks was circulated to all Egyptian security posts on September 4th.

U.S. President Barack Obama has not attended a daily intelligence briefing since September 5th.

#2  Looks like coordinated tactics to me. The attack in Libya was no random event. One theory was posted on www.Debka.com implying that the Libyan action was a highly-planned terrorist attack by Al Qaeda.

You are right that ambassador Steven's injuries were probably caused by mistreatment.

The USA needs a strong response, IMO.
These comments are purely personal and do not reflect any knowledge of official intel.

Incidentally, I think these events are a warm-up for further Al Qaeda attacks before the US election. And possibly also a prelude to a major Muslim response if Iran is attacked because of its nuclear program.

Egyptian-Iranian intelligence meeting prompts fears of a new Middle East terror axis

U.S. intelligence agencies recently monitored a secret meeting between EgyptĀ’s intelligence chief and a senior Iranian spy that is raising new fears the Muslim Brotherhood government in Cairo could begin covertly supporting global terrorism.

According to U.S. officials, the head of the Egyptian General Intelligence Service, Maj. Gen. Murad Muwafi, met in early August with a senior official of IranĀ’s Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS).

Disclosure of the Egyptian-Iranian intelligence meeting comes as the Obama administration is planning to provide $1 billion in aid to bail out EgyptĀ’s new Islamist government. The administration is said to be seeking closer ties to the new regime in Cairo, following the ouster in February 2011 of long-time ally Hosni Mubarak.

The nutters attack the US embassies in Libya and Egypt. They get media coverage and get to look pius to their fanatical co-lunatics as they 'stick it' to the Americans. They pay no price personally. This is encouragement. Is anyone surprised that another embassy was attacked?

The embassy is sovergn US territory. Defend it. Start killing fanatics if they attack it, and not just a few of them. Open fire and don't stop until everyone is either dead or out of range. There are no innocents in a mob. Kill them all. This would be personal discouragment.

#19  Little correction. Embassies on foreign soil are not "sovereign territory" of the respective state occupying them.

It is just a territory that authorities (or anyone else) of the host state may not enter without permission of the chief of mission.

The host state technically still enjoys full sovereignty, also in legal matters happening inside the compound.

Yemen Police Defuse 4-kg Explosive Device at Deadly Bombing Site
[Yemen Post] The Yemeni Police defused a 4-kg bomb at the cabinet presidency on Tuesday, shortly after the defense minister escaped a car boom that killed 12 people including 7 of his bodyguards, security officials said.

"The bomb was spotted at the main gate of the cabinet inside a medium-sized shopping bag," the sources said.

Interior minister, Abdulqadir Qahtan, said President ,Abdrabu Mansour Hadi , has formed a panel to investigate the car boom to find out whether some concerned authorities were neglectful.

In his comments to Yemen TV following the kaboom , Qahtan said defense minister, Muhammad Nasser Ahmed, survived the liquidation attempt while his convoy was leaving the weekly meeting of the cabinet.

12 people including seven of the minister's bodyguards were killed and 12 others injured, some at death's door, he said, adding some cars and houses were also affected.

The attack came a day after an Arclight airstrike killed AQAP's second-in-command, Saudi Saeed Al-Shehri.

Al-Shehri was targeted along with six other Al-Qaeda bully boyz including leaders in the eastern Hadramout
...the formerly independent Qu'aiti state and sultanate, annexed by Communist South Yemen in 1968, encompassing a region along the Gulf of Aden, extending eastwards to the borders of the Dhofar region of Oman. Hadi Fires Senior Security Chiefs, Picks New Governors, Presidency Officials
[Yemen Post] Yemen's President Abdrabu Mansour Hadi sacked senior security chiefs and picked new governors and presidency officials on Tuesday night after the defense minister escaped a car booming at the cabinet HQ in downtown the capital Sanaa.

Among the fired chiefs were heads of the national security system and intelligence systems who have been seen as very close to the former president Saleh.

Previous governor of Shabwa, Ali Al-Ahmadi, became the new chief of the national security and ,Hassan Al-Yafe, a former defense ministry officer, the new chief of the intelligence system.

Hadi also named new ministers for oil and higher education and five new governors for Sanaa, Jawf, Amran, Shabwa and Baidha.

Furthermore, he appointed Nasr Taha Mustafa, the former head of Saba agency, the new manager for the president's office and ,Mansour bin Safaa, as the secretary general at the office.

The appointments came shortly after the defense minister, Muhammad Nasser Ahmed, survived a deadly car booming while leaving the cabinet's weekly meeting.

12 people including 7 of the minister's bodyguards were killed and 12 others injured, some seriously, in the attack.

In the meantime, the Yemeni people plan to stage a massive demonstration to condemn terrorist attacks and violence and to announce their support to the decisions and efforts of Hadi.

Turkish Driver Kidnapped in South Yemen
[An Nahar] Gunmen kidnapped a Turkish tourist bus driver in southern Yemen on Wednesday to apply pressure on the authorities to release a fellow primitive, an official in Abyan
...a governorate of Yemen. The region was a base to the Aden-Abyan Islamic Army terrorist group until it dropped the name and joined al-Qaeda. Its capital is Zinjibar. In March 2011, al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula declared the governate an Islamic Emirate after seizing control of the region. The New York Times fastidiously reported that those in control, while Islamic hard boyz, are not in fact al-Qaeda, but something else that looks, tastes, smells, and acts the same. So far 60 coppers have been bumped off in the city this year.

"Police constable Mohammad Nawaz, 30, was reportedly riding his cycle of violence to work when gunnies, also on a two-wheeler, followed him and shot him near Madina Masjid in Sector 4, Pirabad," Pirabad cop shoppe SHO Ashfaq Baloch said.

"A single bullet hit him in the head, causing his instant death."

The victim was a resident of Orangi Town, posted at the Pirabad cop shoppe, the police said. Following the incident, the police shifted the body to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) for medico-legal formalities.

Police said the incident occurred near Sikandar Goth, where the two brothers -- Salahuddin, 35 and Sirajuddin, 48 -- were going home from work when two unknown suspects riding a cycle of violence fired handgun shots at them and rode away.

Both men were being taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, but Salahuddin died on the way to the hospital.

Sachal cop shoppe SHO Azhar Ali said that both brothers worked at a reti-bajri stand.

He hailed from Kabul, the police said, adding that personal enmity was a likely motive for the murder.

Hamas Condemns Anti-Islam Film, Gazans Protest
[An Nahar] The Paleostinian Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, movement on Wednesday condemned an anti-Moslem film that has sparked deadly riots, as a handful of Gazooks burned U.S. flags to protest against the movie.

The low-budget film, "Innocence of Moslems," portrays Moslems as immoral and gratuitously violent. It sparked protests in Egypt and Libya, where rioters attacked the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, killing the ambassador and three others.

In a statement on his Facebook page, Hamas front man Fawzi Barhum condemned the film as "disgraceful, racist and an insult to the feeling of every Moslem in the world."

"We want to stop all disregard of principles and human values, to put an end to all these misguided policies, and we want respect for Moslem rights."

Tens of Paleostinians gathered outside the United Nations
...boodling on the grand scale...
headquarters in Gazoo City to protest against the film on Wednesday afternoon, burning American flags and pictures of a U.S. pastor who has reportedly backed the movie.

The demonstration was called by a small Salafist group called the Popular Resistance Movement.

"This anti-Islam movie is proof of a clear Western Zionist policy intended to insult Islam in every possible way," a front man for the group, Khaled al-Azzbat, told AFP.

"There must be clear responses to the Zionist enemy and the West and we will not stand and watch."

Filipino terror network tied to YouTube, Facebook
On November 6, 2011, a Filipino man uploaded a video on YouTube. In the video he wore a camouflage jacket and a mask covered his face and head. In Arabic he asked Muslims to support and contribute to the jihad in the Philippines.

Identified as Commander Abu Jihad Khalil al-Rahman al-Luzon, the man called on Muslims to unite, saying there was "no way to restore the Islamic Caliphate and the glory of the religion but through jihad."

It triggered a big reaction in the Philippines, triggering a wave of videos, letters and audio messages from Filipino jihadists which were promoted on al-Qaeda linked sites and jihadist websites like Shumukh al-Islam and Ansar al-Mujahideen English Forum (AMEF).

Sources from 3 different countries say that Abu Jihad Khalil is 31-year old Khalil Pareja, a Christian convert to Islam who became the leader of the Rajah Solaiman Movement in 2005. RSM worked closely with the Abu Sayyaf and Jemaah Islamiyah.

Their alliance carried out at least two attacks: the Superferry bombing in 2004, one of the worst maritime terrorist attacks in history; and the Valentine's Day bombings in 2005 -- two near-simultaneous explosions in General Santos City and Davao City, followed an hour later by an explosion on a bus in Makati.

A Philippine intelligence report said that Pareja not only made jihadi posts on YouTube, he was also active on Facebook -- a case study of how one man can connect jihadis and terrorists from many countries through social media.

Car bomb kills at least 18 Syrian soldiers in Damascus ahead of UN envoy's visit
[Haaretz] At least 18 Syrian soldiers were killed Wednesday in a car booming near the Turkey border, the opposition said, a day before international mediator Lakhdar Brahimi was to visit Damascus
...The capital of Iran's Syrian satrapy...
.

Russia, meanwhile, accused Western members of the UN Security Council of supporting terrorism by failing to condemn attacks on Syrian government forces.

The opposition Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the bombing took place near a military outpost in the northern area of Saraqab, close to the border with Turkey.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told news hounds in Kazakhstan that "an act of terror is an act of terror. If it looks, is planned and carried out like an act of terror, it is an act of terror."

Russia, a staunch ally of Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Supressor of the Damascenes...
, has vetoed with China three UN resolutions condemning the regime's crackdown on protesters.

The Syrian Foreign Ministry said that Brahimi, a veteran Algerian diplomat, would meet Thursday with Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Moallem in Damascus. There was no word yet if he would also meet Assad.

Opposition activists said at least 76 people were killed Wednesday across Syria.

Clashes between Assad's soldiers and rebel forces erupted near an airport in the northern city of Aleppo
...For centuries, Aleppo was Greater Syria's largest city and the Ottoman Empire's third, after Constantinople and Cairo. Although relatively close to Damascus in distance, Aleppans regard Damascenes as country cousins...
. Activists said a convoy carrying Syrian Christian Armenians from Aleppo came under attack, leaving four dead and 14 maimed.

Aleppo, the country's commercial hub, has a large Syrian Christian Armenian community. The battle for Aleppo started in mid-July.

With the civil war in its 18th month and with little movement on the diplomatic front, Brahimi has attended a series of meetings aimed at finding a solution to the conflict.

Brahimi, who replaced former UN chief Kofi Annan
...Ghanaian diplomat who served as the seventh and so far the worst Secretary-General of the UN. Annan and the UN were the co-recipients of the 2001 Nobel Peace Prize for something or other that probably sounded good at the time. In December 2004, reports surfaced that Kofi's son Kojo received payments from the Swiss company Cotecna, which had won a lucrative contract under the UN Oil-for-Food Program. Kofi Annan called for an investigation to look into the allegations, which stirred up the expected cesspool but couldn't seem to come up with enough evidence to indict Kofi himself, or even Kojo...
, on Wednesday met Arab League
...an organization of Arabic-speaking states with 22 member countries and four observers. The League tries to achieve Arab consensus on issues, which usually leaves them doing nothing but a bit of grimacing and mustache cursing...
chief Nabil al-Arabi and Qatari Prime Minister Hamad bin Jassem, who leads an Arab ministerial committee on Syria.

A front man for the main opposition Syrian National Council (SNC), George Sabra, told dpa that earlier this month Brahimi met SNC officials in La Belle France who had briefed him on the situation in Syria.

"We told him that the regime has to leave before any dialogue or talks on a transitional period in Syria," Sabra said.

The United Nations
...where theory meets practice and practice loses...
says an estimated 1.2 million Syrians, more than half of them children, are internally displaced, while about 250,000 refugees have sought shelter in neighboring Jordan, Leb, Turkey and Iraq.

Opposition activists say more than 27,000 people have died since the unrest began in March 2011.

Terror Networks
Anti-American Protests Spread to More Countries, Warnings at Seven Embassies
Protesters turned out in Tunisia, Morocco, and Sudan today as US embassies in at least seven countries warned of possible attacks sparked by outrage over an anti-Islamic film.

In Tunisia, some 200 protesters turned up at the US embassy and police responded by firing "teargas and rubber bullets into the air" to disperse the crowd. Soldiers protected the embassy. There were no injuries reported.

In Morocco a crowd of more than 300 gathered near the US consulate in Casablanca. A photo of the scene shows police standing before barricades. No violence has been reported but protesters shouted "Death to Obama!"

And in Sudan, a few hundred protesters gathered outside the US embassy in Khartoum. The group, which called itself "Sudanese Youth" delivered a list of written demands to staff at the Embassy. Staff described the demands as "asking for an immediate apology, removal of the YouTube video," and criticism of Pastor Terry Jones.

Pastor Terry Jones scheduled an anti-Islamic protest yesterday but has claimed he has no connection to the film "The Innocence of Muslims" beyond showing it once. The film's producer was interviewed by various news outlets yesterday as Sam Bacile, but today someone connected to the production claimed this is not the producer's real name but a pseudonym.

Until recently, the ultra-low budget film was only available on YouTube in English. But on September 4th, Bacile uploaded a portion of the film to YouTube in Arabic. From there it spread to Arabic television and was condemned by Salafi leaders in Egypt.

There are now indications that the film may not have been the motivation for the deadly attack in Benghazi. That attack appears to be the work of Al Qaeda, who merely used the protest over the film as an opportunity to enlist large crowds to aid in the killings.

Frankly, according Au Auric, this does not look like a SROP "Sudden Reactionary Operation" but rather a "Co-ordinated Strike Operation" = COSOP against US interests.
