Sunday Morning Coffee Pot: A Call to Action
By lotp

Biden's debate behavior last Thursday and the reception it received is just one more example of hate and disdain expressed by the left towards anyone who disagrees with them. It stands in a long line of behaviors like "hating Bush", Occupy Wall Street and recent Tweets/Youtube of people pissing and sh*tting on Romney/Ryan signs.

But for me it was the proverbial straw on the camel's back. And it has motivated me in ways the Veep never intended. It's time for me to take action. It's time for you to do so, too.

BOTTOM LINE UP FRONT

Let's get to the bottom line right at the beginning. The hate coming from the left is no aberration. Biden's refusal to allow a real debate isn't an accident. The left has no intention to allow policy discussion or debate by the citizenry. They have embraced the heckler's veto on a key activity of a constitutional republic.

And they have done so because they do not share the core values or presuppositions on which this country was built.

Our public institutions have been eroded by a Gramscian program of slow takeover. Public schools were intended first and foremost to prepare immigrants to assimilate into this culture and this civic society, and secondarily to prepare them to contribute economically. Our schools stopped filling this role by the 1970s. Art, entertainment, literature and political discourse constantly send the message that there are no core values worth defending, no authority worth yielding to, no first principles that have a claim on us.

And we have allowed this to happen.

For all the right reasons -- including a commitment to a government representative of free men and women -- we continue to justify positions, argue policies, attempt to engage the left in dialogue despite their behavior.

And maybe we've allowed the left to take over our society and to engage in heckler's veto for some wrong reasons too -- we're busy, we have job/business/family commitments, we don't want to rock the boat with relatives and friends.

Whatever the mix of reasons we each had, the reality is that Gramsces has won this round. We have allowed the core principles on which this country was built to be dangerously eroded, hollowed out, disparaged and replaced across the public spectrum.

Does that seem overstated to you? Then consider this: On September 29, 2003 Jonathan Chait published an article in The New Republic subtitled "The Case for Bush Hatred". Read or re-read it now. Observe and absorb the basis on which he justifies his hatred.

This article opened a floodgate. Not long afterward writers and TV shows openly fantasized about assassinating a sitting President. And the left openly applauded, while the right and libertarians either kept quiet or muttered about how events in Iraq were unfolding.

Chait was not denounced, fined, fired, ostracized. Nor were his fellows in hatred. TNR did not lose subscribers. Jon Stewart did not lose viewers nor were his advertisers put on notice.

Over the last 4 years the current POTUS has openly refused to enforce immigration law and has flouted other laws with no consequences from the left and few from the right. We gather at places like the Burg to tut-tut, but not a hell of a lot more.

We have failed to act as if we really believe what we say we believe about this country. We have failed to ensure that this country lives up to its purpose and calling.

It's time for that to change.

DIAGNOSIS

We all know the figures -- nearly half of American adult citizens pay no net income tax and have little stake in an efficient, effective government so long as their entitlements continue. Voter fraud is tacitly tolerated. There is far more corruption at local, state and federal levels than would ever have been accepted half a century ago.

And maybe you see some of the more subtle signs of social collapse that deeply concern me. Open acceptance of public, falling down, puking drunkenness among our young adults, at levels that are starting to approach those of the demoralized members of the British welfare state. Widespread cheating in universities -- among faculty members who plagiarize papers and fake research results. I could go on and you probably have your own list.

This society is deeply hollowed out, corroded, crumbling. We will not fix things politically unless and until we also rebuild our society and reweave the social contract on which it was once built.

You and I will probably differ on a variety of social issues. That's as it should be. But I hope we can agree on some key things:

(1) At the heart of the Founding is a deep commitment to individual dignity, responsibility and accountability. Everything -- everything -- in the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution proceeds from this basis.

(2) In order to protect the inalienable rights with which we are endowed "among them life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness", we establish governments which we are free to hold accountable and even to dissolve as need be.

(3) Political and economic freedoms therefore demand an ongoing negotiation among ourselves, at the polls, in legislature and courts, and in the marketplace. Neither chaos nor usurped power may be tolerated, for both destroy day to day opportunities for freedom to flourish. There is no perfect outcome, only sustained and appropriate balancing of competing interests and insights over time.

A CALL TO ACTION

There are 23 days until the election. Get up, get out and help elect Romney/Ryan and a republican Congress. There's too much at stake to stay home or let Obama, Pelosi, Reid win.

If you're in a swing state, your time, donations, energy are needed. Find a local campaign center, make calls from home, knock on doors, do something. Do it with urgency. You might get to know some new people who think like you along the way.

If you're in a hopelessly blue state, well, that's what God made cheap long distance calling plans, online donations and promising local candidates for.

If you're in a 'safe' red state, well, ditto.

If you can, drive voters to the polls on election day. Volunteer to poll watch - and for all our sakes, be sure to vote yourself. And as Trailing Wife notes, double-check your voter registration at your county board of elections, then vote early in the day - calls are now going out that suggest a variety info gathering to facilitate voter fraud on election day.

Do it. Do it NOW.

This election is only the first step, however, critical though it be.

It's hopeless for us to nation build in Afghanistan. It had damned well better not be hopeless for us to rebuild our nation here at home. We need to pursue the military strategy of Take, Hold and Build in our own home territory -- politically, societally -- or we are lost.

Take: We need to take back the narrative about our country. We need to be prepared to actively explain the principles on which this country was founded -- including economic principles. We need to demand that the significant successes of our society be acknowledged even while noting areas that could use improvement.

We need to be vocal against ads that present men as infantile, against sexualization of young girls, against usurpation of parental responsibility by schools and government officials or whatever other issues we each feel strongly about. We will disagree on some of these. That's okay. But let's try to focus on the key issues of freedom, accountability, responsibility.

Above all, we need to make our voices very clearly heard by our elected officials.

We need to speak up, even when it is uncomfortable to do so, in family and other situations. And we need to have something thoughtful, focused and unapologetic to say when we do.

If we are not willing to advance and defend our principles, the game is already ceded to the enemy.

Hold: It's not enough to have a message or even to speak out. We have to follow through. We must hold the terrain through control of our institutions at all levels of government and society. That means making time and energy to participate in political campaign activities. It means donating, knocking on doors, phoning people, talking to neighbors and friends and family. It means continually holding the media accountable for accurate reporting. It means going to local school board meetings and reviewing text books. It means letting universities, charities, candidates know what they must do and represent to get your donations and support. For some of us it means holding religious institutions accountable as well.

And it means doing this against signficant resistence from entrenched people, power and ideology. Just because your patrol takes a town doesn't mean it's yours: you have to be prepared to fight to hold it.

So it is probably a good idea to band together with other people who share your values and concerns. They're there to be found, if you look. You can start with local campaign volunteer groups, among other places. But find like minded people and go work together, or be prepared to be defeated.

Build: Our country and our society are in shambles. They need rebuilding. Building takes time, effort, and vision.

Rebuilding means raising kids and influencing friends to live by the principles we value. It means volunteering for after-school or weekend activities that teach a younger generation how to take responsibility, discover talents, risk and earn rewards in life. It means looking around and deciding whether and how to build ties to neighbors.

Rebuilding means taking advantage of new technologies and opportunities to build economic value by offering goods and services for profit.

And rebuilding means articulating and sharing a new vision for a new time. Digital technologies are already revolutionizing education. How can that support responsive home and community schooling of children? How should we live when self-driving cars and local manufacturing make industrial models obsolete?

Take. Hold. Build.

We are at the very edge of a precipice: politically, socially, economically. The decision is upon us. We are at war, whether we like it or not.

Wresting this country back from the infiltrated left won't come easily, quickly or without sacrifice. You're busy, you're burdened already and maybe you're demoralized about the state of things too.

But if you and I don't get involved now, if we fail to articulate our principles, take back our culture and rebuild towards a vision of the future, we will have surrendered ourselves and future generations to an ideology that tends always and everywhere to authoritarian and totalitarian tyranny. We will have handed victory to those who delight in the destruction of beauty and meaning, to those who sh*t on the symbols of our joint civic life and who revel in hatred.

Our choice.

#1  My 26-yr old nephew's rant (there's hope for the younger generation):
"As if 48 months with no job creation, obama-care, fast and furious, the benghazi cover up, the crony stimulus binge, and Obama's class warfare tactics aren't enough to steer you towards Romney, now he wants us to believe that Iran is DECADES away from nuclear capability. "Nothing to see here folks. Those guys are noooooo problem." These idiots are like a toddler with a shotgun. They simply do not respect or comprehend the power that they wield, and are reckless and dangerous with it. I don't believe that Romney will be the next Reagan, but I think it would be national suicide to re-elect these blithering idiots."

#2  Dr. lotp, I agree with every word of your post.

I would add: if you're going to fight back, understand first that the other side plays dirty. (They're entitled to, because what they think is so right that anyone who disagrees with them is a sort of intellectual untermensch.) Last week I posted an article at another site over my real name in which I took factual issue with something a certain Democratic senatorial candidate had claimed, and virtually the next day my "Google profile" had changed so that the top article was about someone of the same name being arrested in Florida for aggravated assault. Now, that's no big deal and is something I can fix pretty easily, but the speed with which some unknown person investigated my background was seriously creepy.

Anyway, this is the first election where I have made several contributions. After I read this, I contributed to Allan West, the Tea Party, and Mitt for Prez. I hope Fred is good for a couple of weeks!

#9  Good lotp. Civil discourse and the debate of ideas is unknown to the progressives. Their notion of a debate is to shout everyone down who disagrees with them. If they are not shouting everyone down, they lie about what it is they are doing. They care little for the principles which are the foundation of this great country.

#11  Righteous rant, lotp!

Spent an hour yesterday making online donations to conservatives such as Mia Love, Allan West, and of course Romney. (It's not that I have a lot of money, it's just that each form has to be filled out again, and that takes time.)

All my overtime pay for the past 2 years is going to this effort. And I'll definitely be voting Election Day before I go to work.

Special IG warns fraud endangering troops in Afghanistan
PDF: Based on concerns shared with the Office of the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction (SIGAR) by the military, we have identified potentially significant contract fraud in the installation and inspection of culvert denial systems designed to prevent access to roadway culverts by insurgents. Through our preliminary investigative work, we estimate that a large number of culvert denial systems might have been falsely reported by Afghan contractors as complete when, in fact, the denial systems were not installed or were installed in a defective manner, rendering them ineffective and susceptible to compromise by insurgents seeking to emplace IEDs.

Four including two coalition members killed in Kandahar: ISAF
[Dawn] A suicide kaboom killed at least six people including two coalition forces members and four Afghan agents in southern Afghanistan on Saturday, ISAF and local officials said.

The Taliban grabbed credit for the attack, according to their front man Qari Yousif Ahmadi, after the blast that targeted a group of foreign soldiers and Afghan intelligence agents in Maruf district of Kandahar province.

ISAF said in a statement the attack also maimed several coalition civilian members and Afghan National Security Forces.

"ISAF can confirm that one coalition forces service member and one coalition forces civilian, along with several ANSF service members, died today in southern Afghanistan," ISAF front man Adam Wojack told AFP.

"The injured personnel were evacuated to ISAF medical facilities for treatment," he said.

The attacker was on foot and detonated his explosives-filled vest at a checkpoint close to an office of NDS, the Afghan intelligence agency, according to Kandahar provincial front man Jawed Faisal.

"The foreign and Afghan officials were standing at the checkpoint when the attacker went kaboom!".

"The blast killed four NDS agents and maimed three others. There were some casualties among foreigners too." he said.

The Taliban said the attack killed six foreigners and several Afghan cops.

Bombers Target Senior Libyan Officer's Car
[An Nahar] Bombers targeted the car of a senior Libyan police officer in the country's second city Benghazi on Saturday, without causing casualties, a security official in the eastern city told Agence La Belle France Presse.

"The car of Colonel Mohammed bin Halim, chief of police operations in Benghazi, went kaboom! outside his home. No one was hurt," the official said, speaking on condition of anonymity
... for fear of being murdered...

"Preliminary inquiries show that a home-made bomb was thrown at the vehicle by person or persons unknown."

Saturday's attack was the latest against senior police and army officers in eastern Libya, heartland of the 2011 revolution that toppled veteran dictator Muammar Qadaffy
... one of those little rainstorms from the Arab Spring...
, and comes just a week before the first anniversary of his death at the hands of the victorious rebels.

Former members of security services under Qadaffy have been among those targeted in the attacks, which are generally blamed on radical Islamists repressed under Qadaffy and who are seen to be seeking Dire Revenge™.

Moktadir, 4 others admit guilt
[Bangla Daily Star] Abdul Moktadir, a key instigator behind the attacks on Buddhists in Ramu, has admitted to having spread Facebook images among local citizens on the night of September 29, police said yesterday.

Moktadir and his friend Omar Faruk, both currently on a four-day remand, are, however, yet to disclose any further details, said Basu Dutta Chakma, an inspector of the Detective Branch of Police in Cox's Bazar.

Basu, who is also the investigation officer of a case filed in this connection, told The Daily Star that police were trying to ascertain whether someone had backed Moktadir in spreading the images derogatory to the Koran.

Police placed in durance vile
Drop the rosco, Muggsy, or you're one with the ages!
Faruk, a mobile servicing shop owner, on October 6 and Moktadir, also known as Alif, on October 9. They were shown set to sit in solemn silence in a dull, dark dock, in a pestilential prison with a life-long lock
... anything you say can and will be used against you, whether you say it or not...
on October 11.

It was from Faruk's shop that the two friends showed and distributed those photos among locals. It provoked the torching of a dozen Buddhist temples and pagodas and damage to six others in Ramu on September 29.

Meanwhile,
...back at the hoedown, Bob finally got to dance with Sally...
four detainees yesterday made confessional statements before the Senior Judicial Court of Cox's Bazar over their involvement in the mayhem.

They are Md Rubel, 20, of Askor Para;Abul Hashem, 40, of Rajar Kul under Ramu; Kamal, 32, of Paschim Moricha; and Borhanuddin, 25, of Coatbazar in Ukhia.

Hashem confessed his guilt and said there were 18 persons, including himself, who attacked the house of Sudhangshu Barua at Purba Katalia Para.

Rubel, driver of a mini-truck, said he had brought in people from different areas of Ramu upazila. He also revealed the names of four individuals who were involved in the attacks.

Borhanuddin said he took part in the vandalism at a Buddhist temple in Coatbazar area and had also attacked a team of law enforcers.

Kamal admitted that he and four others had attacked Dipankar Buddha Bihar at Paschim Moricha.

Criminal killed in 'gunfight' with cops
[Bangla Daily Star] A criminal was killed and another sustained bullet wounds when a gang of hoodlums "exchanged fire" with police after a chase on a road in Ashulia on the outskirts of the city yesterday afternoon.
Didn't bother to set up a 'crossfire', did they...
It's only the local police, not the Rab. Kudos to them for trying.
The dead is Rony
...who is rony no more...
aged about 22. He was from Kaundia area of Savar.
No doubt a certain mod will claim that with a high magnification jewelers loupe she can find that on a map...
It's near Dhaka. Good shopping, mediocre restaurants
See? So there, O Salmon One.
Police locked away
Drop the heater, Studs, or you're hist'try!
six members of the gang including the maimed and recovered one revolver, ten bullets, two machetes and two knives from their possession, Wahiduzzaman, officer-in-charge of the police's Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka, told The Daily Star.
No shutter gun? Rony didn't rate?
It was a running battle, so they didn't have time to check out any of the shiny things from the evidence locker. Besides, nobody seems to do shutter guns anymore.
That's what prosperity will do to you...
Law enforcers had information that a gang of myrmidons will cross Narasinghapur in the afternoon.
"Hist! Sarge! It's Mahmoud the Weasel's fourteenth grandson once removed, and have I got news for you!"
Accordingly, a 10-member team of the DB set up a check post on a road in Dhonaid around 4:00pm and started checking vehicles there.
And, as a bonus, nab a couple of 'miscreants' for a 3 am crossfire...
As a microbus approached the check post, police signaled it to stop.
"You! [bang] [bang!!] [BLAM!!] Stop!"
But the driver of the vehicle sped away ignoring the police signal.
"You'll never catch me ya flatfoots!"
This prompted the DB men chase the microbus.
"Chase that microbus!"
They sent a wireless message to the high officials of police about the incident.
"Calling all cars! Calling all cars! Be on the lookout for a microbus. That is all."
Alerted by the message, Ashulia police put up a barricade near the Ashulia bridge.
"You there! Lend me that water buffalo!"
The microbus crossed about eight kilometers dodging the police chase and finally stopped near the water buffalo barricade.
Because of the barricade or the fusillade of bullets?
As the DB team reached near the vehicle, the gang shot up the law enforcers,
"Eat hot lead, ya flatfoots!"
forcing them to retaliate.
"Okay, boys, let 'em have it!"
Two myrmidons were hit by bullets, while two others ran into a nearby village.

Villagers caught one of them and handed him over to the police,
...after beating the snot out of him...
while the other managed to escape.
Was he ever there?
Police locked away
Drop the heater, Studs, or you're hist'try!
four more criminals from the microbus and sent the two bullet-hit to Enam Medical College Hospital in Savar, where the doctors declared Rony dead.
"He's dead, Jim!"
"No problem, send him on to Dr. Quincy."
The injured were undergoing treatment there.
Why bother, they're going to end up in cross-fires...
It's easier on the trainees if their miscreants aren't at full strength, like Mama Cat teaching her kittens to hunt.

Soldier, three terrorists killed in Dagestan gun battle
Three Islamic terrorists militants and an army soldier were killed during a gun battle in the North Caucasus republic of Dagestan.

The skirmish took place during a law enforcement operation in a forest outside the village of Endirei. No details were immediately available.

Seven bombs worth a combined 19 kilograms of TNT were found earlier on Saturday in a house in the regional capita Makhachkala. Police detained 11 suspects in connection with the discovery.

Earlier this week, media reports claimed the regular army may rejoin the hunt for terrorists in the volatile region for the first time since 2006. Airstrikes were reported on the outskirts of Makhachkala on Tuesday.

Media blamed the tentative army involvement on an upsurge in terrorist insurgent activity, but the Kremlin’s envoy to the North Caucasus, Alexander Khloponin, denied it on Saturday. He said, “There’s no upsurge in terrorist activity, only an upsurge in law enforcement activity.”

He added that the airstrikes in Makhachkala were part of a military exercise.

[Dawn] A car boom tore through a crowded bazaar outside an office for anti-Taliban tribal elders Saturday in Darra Adam Khel-- a town located between Kohat and Beautiful Downtown Peshawar
...capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (formerly known as the North-West Frontier Province), administrative and economic hub for the Federally Administered Tribal Areas of Pakistan. Peshawar is situated near the eastern end of the Khyber Pass, convenient to the Pak-Afghan border. Peshawar has evolved into one of Pakistan's most ethnically and linguistically diverse cities, which means lots of gunfire.
-- killing at least 17 people, officials said.

The blast was the latest to strike the troubled area near the Afghan border, showing bully boyz still pose a threat to the stability of key US ally Pakistain despite government offensives against the Taliban and their supporters.

No group immediately grabbed credit, but the Pak Taliban have staged similar attacks in the tribal region of Darra Adam Khel to punish elders for backing security forces in offensives against bad turbans.

The explosives-laden car was parked near the office of one of anti-Taliban peace committees that have been formed by local elders trying to rid the area of bad turbans, regional government administrator Fakhruddin Khan said.

It was unclear how many people were in the office at the time, but Khan said those killed included tribal elders and passers-by. He said 40 people also were maimed and the attack destroyed 35 shops and eight vehicles.

The dead and maimed, including some at death's door, had been transported to hospitals in Peshawar.

The region, which is in the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa
... formerly NWFP, still Terrorism Central...
province, is famous for its weapons market selling guns made by local craftsmen.

Provincial Information Minister Mian Iftikhar Hussain blamed the Pak Taliban, noting the fundamentalist Islamic movement also had tried to kill a 14-year-old girl who is an advocate of education for girls and a critic of the Taliban. Malala Yousufzai was shot and maimed by a Taliban gunman in the Swat

Valley on Tuesday.

The attack has drawn widespread condemnation.

Hussain urged the federal government to consider launching a "decisive operation against terrorists" to eliminate the bad turbans.

"These Taliban have killed our innocent people in so many attacks. They are still killing our people. Instead of wasting time, we should hit them back, and we should do it as early as possible to save the precious lives of our innocent girls like Malala Yousufzai," he told news hounds in Peshawar.

The official intelligence sources said that the authorities have locked away

four police commandos who were on duty; After interrogating, one of them, confessed that he had provided satellite phone to Dr Shakeel Afridi.

The sources said that Dr Shakeel Afrid had made more than 68 calls from the satellite phone set and most of these calls were long-distanced calls, but the authorities are assessing the satellite phone data to ascertain the country location.

To a query, the sources said that after a controversial interview with Fox News, a US-based news channel, a few weeks back, the authorities had installed special equipment around Central Jail Peshawar to check Dr Afridi's activities and had traced some calls from his jail cell, following which the authorities conducted investigation with the four coppers. One of the coppers, the sources said, admitted of his involvement in providing Dr Afridi the satellite phone.

The sources said that it's likely that the interview might have been conducted through the satellite phone but the authorities are assessing the facts.

Her interrogation led security officials to over 60 telephone numbers of SIM cards she and her aides had bought in various northwestern cities. By monitoring all the numbers, authorities rounded up the faceless myrmidons -- including several would-be jacket wallahs -- and a large number of weapons and explosives was also seized, the officials said.

The officials did not want to be identified because they were not authorised to speak to the media.

Iraq
Al-Qaeda planned Tikrit jailbreak
BAGHDAD: Iraq’s branch of Al-Qaeda said it masterminded a jailbreak in the northern city of Tikrit last month and smuggled weapons to inmates, according to a statement posted on militant websites.

Dozens of prisoners, many of them convicted members of Al-Qaeda on death row, fought their way out of the jail, killing 16 members of the security forces in ensuing clashes.

Al-Qaeda issued a statement saying it planned the mass escape with prisoners, sent them arms and detonated a car bomb outside the prison gate to give them a chance to flee, according to SITE, a group which monitors militant websites.
I think we've seen this movie ... on the SpikeTV channel...
Iraq’s Interior Ministry has accused prison officials of complicity in the jailbreak. Security at prisons was beefed up following the jailbreak and some inmates were transferred to fortified jails.

Israel Air Strike Kills One Palestinian in Gaza
[An Nahar] An Israeli air strike killed one Paleostinian and maimed two others, including a child, in the Gazoo Strip on Saturday, Paleostinian medical sources said.

The attack, one of several on the coastal strip over the course of the day, targeted an unidentified man driving a cycle of violence in the northern town of Jabaliya, they said.

The Israeli army confirmed an attack, but gave no details.

Following the fatal strike, the air force also hit a training camp in Gazoo City of the Ezzedine al-Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of the Islamist movement Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason,, which controls the strip, Paleostinian sources said.

No casualties were reported.

Earlier on Saturday, the air force hit three targets in Gazoo, hours after a rocket fired from the territory went kaboom! near a house in southern Israel, sources on both sides said.

"Aircraft targeted a terror activity site in the northern Gazoo Strip, and two terror activity sites in the central Gazoo Strip. Direct hits were confirmed," a statement from the Israeli military said.

"The sites were targeted in response to the rocket fire towards southern Israel."

Paleostinian security officials said there were no casualties from the strikes, one of which hit an unmanned training camp of the Ezzedine al-Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of the ruling Hamas movement, south of Gazoo City.

They said the other two hit open ground near the Nusseirat and Al-Bureij refugee camps in central Gazoo, possibly used as rocket launch sites.

On Friday night, Gazoo gun-hung tough guys fired a Grad rocket that went kaboom! in the yard of a residential building in the southern Israeli town of Netivot.

One person was taken for medical treatment suffering from shock, and the building was damaged by the rocket.

The Mujahedeen Shura Council, a Salafist group, issued a statement saying it fired the rocket on Netivot.

Hezbollah's Madoff heads to Israel with cache of cash ($5M) and goodies
Put forward by several esteemed members of the Burg community as today's "holy crap!" story. This one was posted first. Thanks to Glenmore, Barbara and others.
Hezbollah's CFO has fled to Israel taking with him large sum of stolen money, classified documents and maps, local news media reported on Friday.
I'm going to Disneyland Superland
The news website, Now Lebanon, cited Hezbollah officials saying that the 29-year old telecommunication engineer, Hussein Fahs, has crossed to Israel carrying with him $5 million in embezzled money from the group. Fahs is also head of Hezbollah's operational communications network.
And a free trip to Ft. Meade
In September, Fahs, who is native of southern Lebanon, was arrested along with other four Hezbollah members over the suspicion of embezzling the group's funds and collaborating with Israel, Yoni Alpert's Terror Watch reported.
Who decided to let him out? Eric Holder?
According to Al-Joumhouria newspaper, he was arrested while on his way to an unknown destination by 20 Iranian intelligence officers at Beirut's Hariri Airport. At the time it was suspected that they stole at least $5 million in Iranian aid funds.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Syria rebels stop army advance on seized town
MAARET AL-NUMAN, Syria: Syrian rebels on Saturday blocked army reinforcements advancing toward the strategic town of Maaret Al-Numan which has been under rebel control, an AFP journalist said.

Some 40 military vehicles, including 10 tanks, four-wheel-drive vehicles with mounted machine guns and buses loaded with troops were forced to stop 10 kilometers (six miles) south of the town, rebel fighters told AFP. The rebel Free Syrian Army used anti-tank rockets and improvised explosives to block the army’s progress.

The FSA seized control of Maaret Al-Numan on Tuesday, pushing the army out into two military bases on its outskirts, and blocking the arrival of new reinforcements to Aleppo.

“The rebels tried again to storm the Wadi Deif army base (on Saturday) ... when they were bombarded by a MiG fighter jet,” said Syrian Observatory for Human Rights director Rami Abdel Rahman.

Regime forces have been launching rockets daily from the two bases on the outskirts, focusing their fire mainly around an underground emergency field hospital. On Saturday, army shelling injured 20 rebel fighters, the Observatory said.

Some 125,000 people once lived in Maaret Al-Numan and its outskirts but most have fled because of the violence. Alongside the rebels, only a few elderly men remain in the town, guarding homes and shops.

Rebel fighters decorate their motorbikes and the few cars they have with the colors of the Syrian independence flag, which has come to symbolize the revolt against President Bashar Assad’s regime.

Experts say the Syrian army has been worn down by an increase in the number of battlefronts and rebel attacks that have cut major supply routes and undermined the regime’s military superiority. The army relies mainly on its monopoly on air power to slow the progress of the insurgency.

“The army can try and take back the town from rebel hands temporarily, but it’s clear that it can no longer keep control of it,” said the Observatory’s Abdel Rahman. “The army is genuinely losing control in the north.”

Syria Rebels Down Fighter Jet near Aleppo, Car Bomb Blast near Damascus Kills 8
[An Nahar] Syrian rebels shot down a fighter jet in the northern province of Aleppo
...For centuries, Aleppo was Greater Syria's largest city and the Ottoman Empire's third, after Constantinople and Cairo. Although relatively close to Damascus in distance, Aleppans regard Damascenes as country cousins...
on Saturday, a monitoring group and a military defector said as reports said that a car boom blast killed at least eight people in Damascus
...The place where Pencilneck hangs his brass hat...
"The rebels shot down the fighter jet in the west of Aleppo province, where fierce battles are taking place," Syrian Observatory for Human Rights director Rami Abdel Rahman told Agence La Belle France Presse.

"The jet was bombarding the village of Khan al-Asal."

A defected military officer in the province confirmed the reports, adding that the MiG jet was shot down some 10 kilometers west of Aleppo, scene of fierce battles since July 20.

Amateur video shot by activists and distributed by the Observatory showed groups of people gathering around a pile of embers, and smoke rising from the scene, as men fired their weapons into the air in celebration.

It also showed the tail of a fixed-wing aircraft, blackened by fire and broken off from the body of the plane.

"God is greatest," people shouted.

"People celebrate when planes are shot down because they are used to bombard civilian areas," said Abdel Rahman.

Meanwhile,
...back at the Senate, Odius Sepulcher called for war against the Visigoths...
a car boom blast killed eight people, including a child and two women, near the Syrian capital in what was once a regime stronghold, a monitoring group said.

"Eight civilians, including a young girl and two women, were killed and 13 others critically injured by a car boom blast in al-Nabak on the road linking Damascus to Homs," said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

"The blast targeted participants in an anti-regime demonstration," Abdel Rahman told AFP.

Amateur video posted on YouTube by activists and distributed by the Observatory showed a badly damaged white vehicle, with its side door charred and the back blasted away.

It was not clear who was behind the attack, Abdel Rahman said.

inmates managed to escape from the largest prison facility in the country, media reports said.

According to MTV, State Commissioner to the Military Court Judge Saqr Saqr ordered the detention of 11 guards at the prison.

The channel pointed out that several officers will be interrogated on Sunday.

Three Fatah al-Islam inmates -- a Paleostinian, a Syrian and an Algerian -- managed to escape from Roumieh prison around a month ago, media reports said on Friday.

Judicial and Security sources informed MTV that counting prisoners in Roumieh was "impossible."

They also noted that bloc "B" was completely under Fatah al-Islam inmates' control, who have all the required technologies to form a comprehensive network."

Interior minister Marwan Charbel said earlier that the prisoners are being counted on a daily basis.
