#1  I am looking forward to the Presidential debate on Tuesday, 9 p.m. est. Hope Romney has a great showing. He has a battle on two fronts; Candy Crowley, and Obama's lies. He should do all right. There is so much low-hanging fruit for the picking in the debate. Obama's record is deplorable--worst in my lifetime.

What are Rantburger's thoughts on the debate?

#2  JohnQC Hello!. Ditto your comment. I believe the Biden approach will be used. The only way to keep communication to a minimum.

#3  I won't watch; I'll get the lowlights later. Bambi's hectoring, I-know-better-than-you-do-and-how-dare-you-question-me voice drives me bananas.

Bambi's down in Williamsburg "prepping" - wonder if his people have convinced him to do something besides play golf and visit a local dam. I doubt it will do him any good, but I have no doubt the "moderator" - who is obviously in the tank for him - will run as much cover as possible for him.

I just don't think he can keep himself hidden for 90 minutes. Romney will keep his cool, and no doubt has his people throwing out the worst, most insulting questions for him to practice against.

Isn't this the "foreign policy" debate? Wonder how the immoderator will keep Romney from talking about Libya? (I'm sure she'll try.) I have no doubt the "questions" from the "audience" are pre-chosen to give Bambi softballs and screw over Romney.

I do appreciate those who are willing to make the supreme sacrifice and watch so they can report ACCURATELY what happened and what was said (as opposed the spinmeisters in the LSM).

#4  there are to be 80 self described undecideds

Crowley will choose among the questions selected by the undecideds and then pose a follow up after a question has been answered by both candidates.

Somewhere between a dozen and two dozen questions will be selected, depending. There have been two major problems with this format in the past.

1. Some questions have multiple parts or are quite lengthy or have embedded assumptions. Moderators tend to avoid these.

2. Some questions are so incoherent you can't figure out what the issue is. Moderators tend to avoid these also.

In 2008, the questions actually selected were, IMO, pretty good - in fact better than the ones developed by moderators in the other two debates. Hence, McCain basically drew even with Obama in the 2008 town hall debate.

#8  Actually I think both cannidates have to answer each question. So the questions will be along the lines of:

Do you think Romney will ever stop beating his wife and molesting his children?

Why is Obama the greatest, strongest, handsomest, and wisest person the world has ever seen or will ever see again?

Gunmen kill 20 at mosque in northern Nigeria
KADUNA: Terrorists Gunmen opened fire on Muslim worshippers as they were leaving a mosque in northern Nigeria on Sunday, killing at least 20 people, a local official said. The attack happened in a remote village called Dogo Dawa, in Kaduna state, said Abdullahi Muhammad, the traditional ruler and councillor of Birnin Gwari, a local government area next door to the village.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack. Like much of northern Nigeria, Kaduna is plagued by an insurgency led by radical sect Boko Haram. They usually attack security forces, government officials or Christians, but have hit Muslim clerics and mosques in the past, especially ones that do not follow their hard-line brand of Islam.
They just aren't holy enough...
Kaduna also lies close to Nigeria’s volatile “Middle Belt,” where Nigeria’s mostly Muslim north and largely Christian south meet, and where tensions over land and ethnicity often erupt into violence.

But Abdullahi said the attack was most likely carried out by a local criminal gang.
Nah, couldn't be terrorists, because .. well, because...
“We are suspecting a reprisal attack by gangs of armed robbers who lost some of their members after a recent exchange of fire with the villagers and the vigilantes,” he said. “The village had been terrorized by an armed group operating from camps in the forest. These armed men mostly attack villages and motorists along the busy Kaduna to Lagos highway.”

The state police commissioner Olufemi Adenaike confirmed the incident, but said he could not yet confirm the death toll.

Turkish authorities forced an Armenian airliner to land at Erzurum Airport in the east of the country on Monday. A search of the aircraft is underway, according to Turkey's NTV television.

"The bodies bore severe torture marks and both of them were shot in the head from a very close range," said an official at the Civil Hospital Bloody Karachi. "Whatever shall we do, Inspector?"
"Elementary, my dear Legume. Round up all the gunny bag vendors."
"Simply brilliant, Inspector!"

UAE to send air ambulance for girl shot by Taleban
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan says the royal family of the United Arab Emirates plans to send an air ambulance for a 14-year-old Pakistani girl shot by the Taleban in case doctors decide to send her abroad for treatment.
How about sending her abroad to save her from the hard boyz...
Islamabad's ambassador to the UAE Jamil Ahmed Khan told Pakistan's Geo TV on Sunday that visas are being finalized for the crew and six doctors who will accompany the flight.

Khan said arrangements have been made to treat the girl, Malala Yousufzai, at three hospitals in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. The Pakistani military said Sunday that no decision has been taken to send the girl abroad, but the air ambulance is part of the contingency plan.
The military may hoping that the problem 'solves itself'...
Or if it doesn't, she has a much better chance of surviving beyond the reach of Pakistan's vicious taqfiris, whatever they may call themselves.
A Taleban gunman shot Yousufzai on Tuesday for promoting education for girls and criticizing the fundamentalist Islamic movement.

[An Nahar] Two men were killed and another two critically maimed on Sunday in an Israeli strike on central Gazoo, Paleostinian medics said in what was the third deadly raid in 24 hours.

The incident occurred just east of Deir al-Balah, with the Israeli military confirming it had targeted "a terrorist rocket squad."

Ashraf al-Qudra, front man for the Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason,-run health ministry, said the strike had initially killed one man and left three others at death's door, but one of the maimed died shortly afterwards.

"Two people were killed -- one of those who was critically maimed died of his wounds," he told Agence La Belle France Presse.

He named the victims as Ezzedine Abu Nasira, 23, and Ahmad Fatayer, 22, both of whom were from Deir al-Balah.

Witnesses said the strike targeted a cycle of violence, and said that both men were bad boys.

Qudra said both of those maimed in the strike were civilians.

An Israeli army spokeswoman confirmed there was a "targeting of a terrorist rocket squad" which had just fired a rocket at southern Israel.

"They had just fired a rocket at Israel which hit the area of the Eshkol regional council," she said. No-one was injured on the Israeli side.

According to the army, more than 500 rockets have hit Israel since the start of 2012, more than 40 of which were fired in the first two weeks of October.

It was the third deadly Israeli raid within 24 hours.

On Saturday night, the air force targeted a cycle of violence in the northern town of Jabaliya, killing a top Salafist leader and a fellow bad boy.

Army Launches Counterstrike against Rebels in North
[An Nahar] Syria banned Turkish flights from its airspace on Sunday and Turkey made a similar tit-for-tat move, as regime forces counter-attacked rebels to regain territory lost in northern battlegrounds.

The reprisal for Turkey confiscating a cargo of what Russia said was radar equipment being flown from Moscow to Damascus
...The place where Pencilneck hangs his brass hat...
came despite a flurry of diplomacy intended to calm soaring tensions between the neighbors.

Syria accuses Turkey of channeling arms from Gulf Arab states to rebels fighting its troops, who have been under mounting pressure across large swathes of the north, including in second city Aleppo
...For centuries, Aleppo was Greater Syria's largest city and the Ottoman Empire's third, after Constantinople and Cairo. Although relatively close to Damascus in distance, Aleppans regard Damascenes as country cousins...
The Syrian flight ban went into force from midnight (2100 GMT Saturday) "in accordance with the principle of reciprocity", SANA state news agency said.
... and if you can't believe the state news agency who can you believe?
Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said later that Ankara had already banned Syrian civilian flights from its airspace.

"Yesterday (Saturday) we closed our airspace to Syrian civilian flights as we have previously done for Syrian military flights," he said.

"As we have established that civilian flights were being misused by the Syrian defense ministry to transport military material, we sent a note yesterday to the Syrian side," Davutoglu said.

Ankara has taken an increasingly strident line towards its southern neighbor since a shell fired from inside Syria killed five Turks on October 3.

It has since repeatedly hit back for cross-border fire, prompting growing U.N. concern and a flurry of diplomatic contacts.

Tensions from the conflict are also being felt in neighboring Leb, and hundreds of supporters of the Assad regime staged a rally in Beirut on Sunday to thank Russia and China for their backing.

With the violence raging, U.N. and Arab League
...an organization of Arabic-speaking states with 22 member countries and four observers. The League tries to achieve Arab consensus on issues, which usually leaves them doing nothing but a bit of grimacing and mustache cursing...
peace envoy Lakhdar Brahimi on Sunday headed to Iran, the Syrian government's closest ally, after talks in Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in their national face...
and Turkey, the leading backers of the rebels.

Brahimi is on his second tour of the region after taking up his post at the start of September, replacing former U.N. chief Kofi Annan
...Ghanaian diplomat who served as the seventh and so far the worst Secretary-General of the UN. Annan and the UN were the co-recipients of the 2001 Nobel Peace Prize for something or other that probably sounded good at the time. In December 2004, reports surfaced that Kofi's son Kojo received payments from the Swiss company Cotecna, which had won a lucrative contract under the UN Oil-for-Food Program. Kofi Annan called for an investigation to look into the allegations, which stirred up the expected cesspool but couldn't seem to come up with enough evidence to indict Kofi himself, or even Kojo...
who quit complaining he had not received sufficient support from the major powers.

On the battlefield, the military used fighter jets to bombard Maaret al-Numan, captured by the rebel Free Syrian Army earlier in the week, said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

To the east, troops tried to block a new rebel assault on Wadi Deif army base -- the largest in Idlib province, much of which is in rebel hands. Battles erupted nearby as warplanes bombarded the area, said the Observatory.

A military official and the Observatory said troops also recaptured Aleppo's Umayyad mosque two days after rebels claimed control of the site, an important foothold they were hoping to take before surrounding the regime-held citadel.

There was shellfire and rifle shots echoed around the heavily damaged courtyard of the mosque with increasing frequency as regime forces apparently advanced on the mosque, an Agence La Belle France Presse correspondent reported.

"Quickly, quickly!" one rebel shouted before forces of Evil sprinted to avoid snipers through a warren of shrapnel-scarred streets filled by dust from the bombardment.

SANA said troops killed and captured "dozens of hard boyz and destroyed anti-tank rockets" in the northern city.

In Damascus, two kabooms hit the upscale district of Mazzeh early Sunday, the Observatory said, adding that one targeted the car of a pro-regime lawyer who was critically maimed.

SANA said the other blast was a "suicide kaboom" that caused no casualties.

In Damascus province, troops took back control of a military base in Atibah, a day after rebels had seized it.

Dozens of corpses were found in a hospital morgue of the province, said the Observatory's Abdel Rahman, adding that they may be of men killed in fighting "over the course of recent months."

At least 63 people were killed nationwide on Sunday, the Observatory said, in addition to more than 33,000 who have died since the revolt against the regime erupted in March last year.

Human Rights Watch
... dedicated to bitching about human rights violations around the world...
, meanwhile, urged Syria's military to stop using cluster bombs, weapons that can contain up to 650 submunitions which are sprayed over a large area before exploding.

"Syria's disregard for its civilian population is all too evident in its air campaign, which now apparently includes dropping these deadly cluster bombs into populated areas," said Steve Goose, arms director at the New York-based group.

Car bomb blast near Damascus kills eight: NGO
[Dawn] A car boom blast killed eight people, including a child and two women, near the Syrian capital on Saturday in what was once a regime stronghold, a monitoring group said.

"Eight civilians, including a young girl and two women, were killed and 13 others critically injured by a car boom blast in Al-Nabak on the road linking Damascus
...The place where Pencilneck hangs his brass hat...
to Homs," said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

"The blast targeted participants in an anti-regime demonstration,"Observatory director Rami Abdel Rahman told AFP.
Amateur video posted on YouTube by activists and distributed by the Observatory showed a badly damaged white vehicle, with its side door charred and the back blasted away.

It was not clear who was behind the attack, Abdel Rahman said.
