Afghanistan
Afghan bus crash kills 30, Taliban blamed
[BETA.DAWN] An official says a bus in southern Afghanistan has collided with the burning wreckage of a truck that was attacked by Taliban myrmidons, killing 30 bus passengers.

Omar Zawak, the governor's front man in Helmand
...an Afghan province populated mostly by Pashtuns, adjacent to Injun country in Pak Balochistan...
province, said the truck was set on fire by Taliban attackers and left burning in the middle of a road, and the bus could not stop in time to avoid smashing into it.

The fiery
...a single two-syllable word carrying connotations of both incoherence and viciousness. A fiery delivery implies an audience of rubes and yokels, preferably forming up into a mob...
crash happened about 55 kilometers outside the capital of Helmand province.

Zawak said Friday's crash also left 11 passengers injured. He said the casualties included men, women and kiddies.

3,000 Rebels Surrender in South Sudan after Amnesty
[An Nahar] Around 3,000 rebels in South Sudan surrendered Friday after a presidential amnesty, an official in Unity, an oil-producing state that borders Sudan, said.

Around 100 trucks crossed over the border from Sudan into South Sudan's Unity state on Friday, following a presidential decree granting amnesty to six rebel commanders and their forces on Thursday.

"They came from Khartoum and there are about 3,000 of them and they are militia who have been fighting against the south," Unity state government front man Joseph Arop Malual told Agence La Belle France Presse.

It was not possible to independently confirm Malual's claims. But South Sudan's military front man Philip Aguer told AFP that a convoy of trucks and machine gun mounted vehicles had arrived in Unity state.

South Sudan split peacefully from the north in July 2011 with three quarters of the former country's oil after decades of civil war.

Unknown group attacks presidential palace, police arrest 15
[Al Ahram] A group of masked assailants torched a police vehicle near the presidential palace Friday evening on Al-Marghany Street in the Cairo district of Heliopolis, after short festivities with security forces at the palace.
Dozens of unknown assailants threw rocks and Molotov cocktails and rocks at one of the entrances to the palace and the security forces protecting it. The security forces pushed back the protesters, dispersing them with teargas grenades.

News reports are claiming that the assailants are members of the Black Bloc and Revolutionary Ultras groups.

Police announced later that it placed in durance vile

Prompted by conversion rumour, protesters attack church in central Egypt
[Al Ahram] Ahram Arabic website reported that festivities broke out between protesters and security forces at Saint George's Church in Beni Suef, with eight people injured and 11 locked away
You have the right to remain silent...

Angry Mohammedan protesters attempted to storm Saint George's Church in Al-Wasata city in the governorate of Beni Suef on Friday.

Tensions erupted in the city recently after reports that a 21-year-old Mohammedan girl had disappeared, with her family accusing a Christian family in the city of forcing her to convert to Christianity and facilitating her travel to Turkey with a Coptic Christian man.

Local Islamist groups had given the Christian family a deadline to return the girl, which expired on Friday, reported Ahram's Arabic language website.

Security forces fired teargas grenades at angry protesters, who attempted to storm the church following the Friday Mohammedan prayer, and arrested five people for throwing Molotov cocktails at the church.

Security vehicles and forces are reportedly surrounding churches in the city.

A number of traders have already closed their shops, particularly Christian jewelers who fear they will be targets.

Why Is Impoverished Egypt Seeking A Nuclear Program?
[Jpost] Why is Morsi committing to an investment of billions of dollars when it is embroiled in economic crisis that is fueling unrest in an already explosive political environment?

Earlier this week, Egypt announced that it is seeking Russian assistance to revive its nuclear program.

It seems to be a move by the Moslem Brüderbund-led government to solidify the country's position as a regional power, as well as a way to improve relations with Moscow since Cairo has been facing difficulties in getting aid from the International Monetary Fund.

The move could also be seen as a play to increase Cairo's leverage with the West so that it receives the aid it desires without having to make too many concessions in return.

Then-Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak
...The former President-for-Life of Egypt, dumped by popular demand in early 2011...
revived the dormant program in 1996 and planned to start a bidding process, but was removed from power in 2011. Mubarak might have seen the nuclear program in a similar light as does the Brotherhood leaders today -- a way to gain regional and international influence.

When Egypt first formed a nuclear research team back in 1961, the country was full of Soviet scientists.
Zvi Mazel, a fellow at the Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs, a former ambassador to Egypt and a Jerusalem Post contributor, told the Post that when Egypt first formed a nuclear research team back in 1961, the country was full of Soviet scientists.

"Mubarak at the beginning didn't want a program," he said, noting that its 2006 launch came quite late in Mubarak's presidency, mainly because, by that time, Iran's program was at an advanced stage.

"To build a reactor of the value of $4 billion is a political issue," said Mazel, adding that "for America it is seen as a kind of offense" to cooperate with Moscow on nuclear energy, since Cairo receives so much aid from the US.

Egypt is the most important Sunni country, explained Mazel, and under the current circumstances -- when almost every country in the region is seeking a nuclear program -- Egypt must have one too.

The difference between Mubarak's and Morsi's nuclear ambitions is that Egypt today is in much worse shape than it was a few years ago.

The Islamist nature of the current leadership, he added, raises even more worries.

A 2008 report by the London-based International Institute for Strategic Studies said that there were at least 13 states in the Middle East that recently announced or revived plans to develop civilian nuclear programs.
The Moslem Brüderbund, an anti- Western and anti-Semitic organization with global ambitions, does not mix well with a nuclear program, which would be viewed as a major threat by Israel and the West.

In a report by Ibrahim Said last year titled, "The bomb and the beard: The Egyptian Moslem Brüderbund's views toward weapons of mass destruction," Said quotes Hamdi Hassan, front man of the Brotherhood's parliamentary caucus, who said in 2006, "We [Egyptians] are ready to starve in order to own a nuclear weapon that will represent a real deterrent and will be decisive in the Arab-Israeli conflict."

He goes on to quote the vice-spiritual guide of the Brotherhood in Egypt, Mohammed Habib, who stated in 2006, "I do not see any problem with Iran obtaining a nuclear weapon... according to nuclear deterrence theory, even if Iran has a nuclear weapon, it will be used to face the Israeli nuclear arsenal. And, this will create a form of balance between the two parties: the Arab-Islamic party on one hand and the Israeli party on the other."

Egypt's desire for a nuclear program could also be seen as part of the greater Sunni reaction to Iran's program and what they fear will be a Shia nuclear bomb, which will cast a shadow over the entire region. Iran's program has already triggered a number of "civilian" nuclear programs in other Sunni Arab countries.

A 2008 report by the London-based International Institute for Strategic Studies said that there were at least 13 states in the Middle East that recently announced or revived plans to develop civilian nuclear programs. The list includes Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
, Jordan and Turkey.

The nightmare scenario of nuclear proliferation in the Middle East as a result of Iran's nuclear program is moving one step closer.

[Al Ahram] An attack Thursday in restive northern Nigeria where suspected Islamists stormed a cop shoppe and stole nearly $60,000 from a bank killed 20 Death Eaters and five officers, the local police chief said Friday.
"Five coppers and 20 gunnies had been confirmed dead when some Boko Haram

Britain
11 British Islamists Jailed for al-Qaida Bomb Plot
[An Nahar] Eleven British Moslems were jugged

on Friday for planning what a court heard was an al-Qaeda-backed plot to carry out a string of bombings that they hoped would rival 9/11 and the 2005 London attacks.

The conspiracy involved at least six of the plotters traveling to Pakistain for terror training, with the eventual aim of setting off eight rucksack bombs in crowded areas and possibly other timed devices.

Ringleader Irfan Naseer received a life sentence, his right-hand man Irfan Khalid was jugged
Drop the rod and step away witcher hands up!
for 18 years and co-conspirator Ashik Ali was jugged
Drop the rod and step away witcher hands up!
for 15 years by a judge at Woolwich Crown Court in southeast London.

Eight other members of the cell which was based in Birmingham, central England, were also sentenced on Friday.

"Your plot had the blessing of al-Qaeda and you intended to further the aims of Al-Qaeda," Judge Richard Henriques said as he sentenced the men.

"The only barrier between (Naseer's) team and mass murder was the intervention of the authorities."

The terror cell was heavily influenced by the teachings of American-born al-Qaeda preacher Anwar al-Awlaki
... Born in Las Cruces, New Mexico, zapped in Yemen, al-Awlaki was a dual citizen of the U.S. and Yemen. He was an Islamic holy man who was a trainer for al-Qaeda and its franchises. His sermons were attended by three of the 9/11 hijackers, by Fort Hood murderer Nidal Malik Hussein, and Undieboomer Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab. He was the first U.S. citizen ever placed on a CIA target list...
, who was killed by a drone strike in Yemen in September 2011, police said.

Prosecutors said that the attacks planned by the men would have been the deadliest since the July 7, 2005 London bombings, in which 52 people were killed by three Islamist jacket wallahs on subway trains and a fourth bomber on a bus.

Khalid meanwhile boasted that the attack would be "another 9/11", referring to the September 11, 2001 attacks on the United States, the trial heard.

The plot was also the most significant terror plan uncovered in Britannia since the 2006 plot to blow up transatlantic airliners using bombs in drinks bottles, police said.

The judge said the attacks may have been intended to target Birmingham, although police said the planned location was not clear.

A total of three individuals have been found dead in or near the sierras of western Durango since Wednesday, according to Mexican news accounts.

According to a news report posted on the website of El Siglo de Durango news daily, an unidentified man was found dead in Santiago Papasquiaro shot in the head. The victim was found on a road leading to the village of Canelas.

Near the village of Tayoltita of San Dimas municipality, Maria de los Angeles Valdez Villanueva, 62, was shot to death Thursday. The press account said the victim was shot in the chest by an unidentified male suspect who fled the scene. El Sol de Durango news daily, however, said that Valdez Villanueva was shot in the head.

A Mexican Army counternarcotics operation was concluded just two months ago last February in Tayoltita in San Dimas municipality, where soldiers seized two AK-47 rifles, three 5.7mm pistols, two 9mm pistols, one 40mm grenade launching attachment, one 40mm grenade, 333 rounds of ammunition and 14 weapons magazines. The seizure included operations in La Lajita in Tamazula as well.

Violence and kidnap threats have been plaguing government workers as well in San Dimas, according to a separate account in El Siglo de Durango.

According to the report, Eduardo Matuk Sariñana -- an administrator with the federal Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social (IMSS) -- said his charges have been subject to intimidation including threats of kidnapping by local drug gangs.

Two weeks ago an IMSS ambulance was fired on and heavily damaged by armed suspects in the village of Vencedores in San Dimas municipality.

In El Salto in Pueblo Nuevo last February, another IMSS clinic was surrounded by local armed drug gang members after one of their members died in the clinic while receiving medical attention. Threats forced one local doctor to flee the village.

Meanwhile, a third victim was found immolated on Rancho La Joya near the village of San Francisco de Lajas in Mezquita municipality. The victim was tentatively identified in the El Sol de Durango report as Paula de la Cruz. The case is being treated by Durango state police investigators as a homicide.

Europe
Suspected Qaida Member Remanded in Custody in Spain
[An Nahar] A Spanish judge Friday remanded in jug a suspected al-Qaeda krazed killer accused of links to snuffies in Mali and bailed another man on the same charges, the court said.

Judge Santiago Pedraz ordered Nouh Mediouni, 23, to be held in jug as a flight risk on charges of "membership of a terrorist organization", according to a written ruling from the National Court.

Police locked away
Keep yer hands where we can see 'em, if yez please!
Mediouni, who is of Algerian origin, on Tuesday in the northern Spanish city of Zaragoza.

They said he had been in contact with al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM), which has carried out attacks and kidnappings across north Africa.

The interior ministry said Mediouni was highly radicalized and was thought to have been recruited by Mali-based members of AQIM via an online krazed killer forum.

Police in Murcia in the southeast on Tuesday arrested Hassan El Jaaouani, 52, of Moroccan origin, who they said had also been in contact with Mali-based AQIM leaders.

A judicial official said the judge on Friday released El Jaaouani on bail and ordered him not to leave Spain.

Interior Minister Jorge Fernandez-Diaz said the two suspects appeared to be "lone wolves" -- individuals who became radicalized despite not having previous links to organised groups.

The government said 13 people had been arrested in Spain for "international terrorism" since the current conservative government took office at the end of 2011.

On March 11, 2004, Spain suffered one of Europe's worst terror attacks when kabooms linked to al-Qaeda killed 191 people on packed commuter trains in Madrid.

Twenty-one people, mostly Moroccans, were convicted of involvement in those attacks.

FBI picking through landfill for boomer laptop
The FBI's investigation of the April 15 bombing has turned from identification and apprehension of suspects to piecing together details of the plot, including how long the planning took, how it was carried out and whether anyone else knew or was involved.

A federal law enforcement official told The Associated Press on the condition of anonymity on Friday that the FBI was gathering evidence regarding "everything imaginable."

FBI agents picked through a landfill near the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, where Tsarnaev was a sophomore. FBI spokesman Jim Martin would not say what investigators were looking for.

An aerial photo in Friday's Boston Globe showed a line of more than 20 investigators, all dressed in white overalls and yellow boots, picking over the garbage with shovels or rakes.

Taliban attack on ANP meeting kills ten in Karachi
[Dawn] At least ten people, including a child, were killed and more than 40 others were maimed in a myrmidons' attack on a secular political party in Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
, DawnNews reported.

The Pak Talibs targeted a corner meeting of Awami National Party (ANP) near Mominabad Police Station in Karachi's SITE area. The meeting was being attended, among others, by a local leader of ANP, Bashir Jan.

Jan, however, escaped the attack unhurt.

SSP Karachi West Asif Ijaz, while talking to Dawn.Com, has confirmed the number of dead and injured. He said the bomb was a planted device with at leat four kilograms of kaboom. Ball bearings and nuts and bolts, apparently used in the bomb, were also found from the site of the blast, he added.

The blast was heard several kilometres away and damaged nearby shops and houses, witnesses said.

Talking to a private news channel, ANP chief Asfandyar Wali condemned the cowardly act of the Orcs and similar vermin and vowed to not bow down to them.

"People know who is behind these barbaric acts....they want to keep us away from elections," he said. However,
a good lie finds more believers than a bad truth...
the ANP chief said that his party will not boycott the May 11 polls.

Taliban claim

Meanwhile,
...back at the comedy club, Boogie was cracking himself up, but nobody else seemed to be getting the non-stop jokes...
the banned Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistain (TTP) has grabbed credit of the attack.

Speaking to Dawn.com via telephone from some holy man's guesthouse an undisclosed location, Pak Taliban front man Ehsanullah Ehsan said they had carried out the attack on the ANP for their secular views.

"These secular parties want to bring the system of the infidel in Pakistain," said the Taliban front man, speaking about the MQM, ANP and PPP.

Speaking to Dawn, Additional IG Karachi Iqbal Mehmood said political parties were required to inform police authorities 72 hours in advance of holding rallies or public meetings.

According to rules set down by the the Election Commission, parties should inform police of routes and other details ahead of holding public meetings to ensure their safety, Mehmood said.

Day of mourning

The ANP has announced to observe a day of mourning in the city. Transport, businesses and educational institutions however will remain open on Saturday, said the party's chief of Sindh province, Shahi Syed.

Karachi, Pakistain's commercial capital, has witnessed a recent surge in violence.

The Pak Taliban had also grabbed credit for an attack on Thursday on the election office of the MQM in Karachi, the second attack on the party in the city in three days.

Earlier in the day, an ANP's National Assembly candidate from Karachi's Landhi area came under a cracker kaboom in Karachi whereas a convoy of Jamaat Ulema-e-Islam
...Assembly of Islamic Clergy, or JUI, is a Pak Deobandi (Hanafi) political party. There are two main branches, one led by Maulana Fazlur Rahman, and one led by Maulana Samiul Haq. Fazl is active in Pak politix and Sami spends more time running his madrassah. Both branches sponsor branches of the Taliban, though with plausible deniability...
-Fazl (JUI-F) candidate Hashim Shahwani came under gunfire attack in Mach area of Balochistan
...the Pak province bordering Kandahar and Uruzgun provinces in Afghanistan and Sistan Baluchistan in Iran. Its native Baloch propulation is being displaced by Pashtuns and Punjabis and they aren't happy about it...
's Bolan district.

The spike in violence targeting political parties has raised concerns for law and order as the May 11 general elections draw closer.

The Human Rights Commission of Pakistain also expressed its concerns at the continuing terrorist attacks on election candidates, activists and campaigns of certain political parties.

"If this targeted violence persists, it would render the elections meaningless and make the country hostage to fascist forces," the rights watchdog said in a statement released Friday.

Police say rebels kill four policemen in Indian-administered Kashmir
[Dawn] Police say suspected hard boyz have ambushed an armored police car, killing four coppers in the Indian-administered Kashmire.

Police officer Imtiaz Hussain says the coppers were on a routine patrol in Hygam village on Friday. He says they stopped their car and stepped out of the vehicle when the rebels opened fire.

Hygam is 45 kilometers (28 miles) north of Srinagar, the main city in Indian Kashmire. No rebel group has grabbed credit for the attack.

Nearly a dozen rebel groups fighting for an independent Kashmire or its merger with Pakistain often target Indian forces, though jihad boy attacks have decreased dramatically in recent years.

Southeast Asia
Three Thai terrorists gunned down
Three terrorists insurgents were killed during clashes with security forces in Yala province yesterday.

The leader of the three terrorists rebels was allegedly involved in a roadside bomb attack that killed a Yala deputy governor and an assistant governor on April 5.

A combined security team yesterday sealed off an area on the side of a mountain in Ban Jorbandang village, believed to be the hideout of terrorists insurgents in the district. Soon afterwards, the terrorists rebels fired shots at the security officers from the trees on the mountainside, prompting the officers to return fire. After a brief exchange of gunfire, one terrorist militant was found dead near the scene of the battle.

The security forces followed a blood trail found along the the route to the mountain. As the officers went deeper into the woods, they were met with a fresh round of shooting from the terrorists insurgents. Two more terrorists militants were killed during that gunfight.

One of the terrorists insurgents killed in the second clash was identified as Abdulloh Tapoh-oh, wanted in connection with the roadside bomb on April 5. The two senior officials lost their lives in the bombing and their driver was critically wounded..

The attack occurred a week after the Thai government held its first peace talks with representatives of separatist groups in Malaysia.
