[Ynet] Gunmen stormed an Egyptian security forces base in the Sinai Peninsula at dawn on Monday and exchanged gunfire with forces inside the base before retreating, security sources said.
The gunnies attacked the base in the Al-Ahrash area in North Sinai from a truck and fired automatic weapons, but the attack did not result in any casualties. The identity of the attackers was not immediately clear, but security sources said they were likely to be Islamist bully boys.

[Naharnet] Armed men on Monday attacked Mellitah gas complex in western Libya, wounding a soldier and a leader of the brigade which guards the complex, the official Lana news agency reported.
"An gang attacked at dawn the Mellitah gas complex wounding the commander of the brigade responsible for the security of the plant and a soldier," it quoted a military source as saying.
The source said the attack did not disrupt gas production at the complex managed by Mellitah Oil and Gas, a company owned by Italian energy major ENI and Libyan National Oil Company.

U.S. drone strikes are up and at it again in Yemen, continuing to target al-Qaeda-linked terrorists operating in the region. Reuters reports that al-Qaeda militants continue to operate in the southern areas.
Two al-Qaeda militants were killed Monday in a drone strike by the U.S. government south of the capital city Sanaa. This past Saturday, up to four militants were killed in a different part of southern Yemen.
The U.S. government does not discuss their drone strikes and this policy is under fire in the U.S., but not by the liberal media which stays silent.
The Yemeni branch of al-Qaeda, called al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) and is considered the most dangerous branch of the international Islamist terrorist group. The group, according to Reuters, has exploited Arab Spring to take parts of Yemen in 2011 and put it under their control. Yemens geopolitical position along major oil shipping routes make it an important part of most industrialized economies and their foreign policy.

Dozens of communist rebels disguised as Philippine troops raided a village in the southern Philippine province of Zamboanga del Sur Sunday morning and took weapons issued by the military to local militias.
Police said some 40 New Peoples Army guerillas also seized communication equipment from village chieftain Reynaldo Villaver in Camp Blessing. The rebels, armed with M14, M16 and Ak-47, fled after the raid.

Police believe six men, including two already questioned and relaesed, were involved in Saturday's hotel bomb blast in Narathiwat. The explosion on the third floor of the Asia Hotel in Sungai Kolok injured six people.
After the explosion, police rounded up Sulaiman Yapa and Tameesi Jeyor, both from Narathiwat province. The pair, who had stayed at the hotel the previous night, were seen on surveillance video rushing out of the hotel shortly before the blast. The suspects told police they had hurried out of the hotel to catch a bus. The pair were released later on Saturday after police took their fingerprints and DNA samples.
Four other men, who had checked into rooms close to the explosion, were also taken in for questioning yesterday. Narathiwat governor Aphinan Suethanuwong said authorities believe all six men were involved in the blast.
Meanwhile, police found and safely detonated a bomb under the surface of a rural road in Pattani province yesterday morning.
Israel and Syria traded fire across their border today in the third such incident in a week. Although Israel has not taken sides in Syria's civil war, it has been explicit that it is willing to take drastic measures to ensure that, amid Syria's chaos, advanced weapons do not drift unnoticed into the hands of the anti-Israel militant group and Damascus-ally Hezbollah.

[Naharnet] An opposition leader, rights activist and longtime dissident in Syria's rebel-held city of Raqa has been kidnapped, a watchdog said Monday.
"The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights has learned of the abduction by an gang of lawyer, human rights ...which are usually open to widely divergent definitions... activist and head of Raqa city's (opposition) local council Abdallah al-Khalil," the Britannia-based group said.
"The Observatory condemns in the strongest terms the abduction of opposition lawyer Abdallah al-Khalil, and demands his immediate release," it said.
Khalil was kidnapped as he left the local council's headquarters in Raqa Sunday morning, added the watchdog, which relies on a broad network of activists, doctors and lawyers for its reports.
Syrian regime troops have not been inside the city since March this year, when Raqa became the first and only bustling provincial capital to fall to rebel hands since the uprising against Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad Trampler of Homs... broke out more than two years ago.
The local council led by Khalil have worked with rebel groups and campaigned for the return of civilian life, despite frequent aerial attacks by the air force.

"Ali Shhade and Omar al-Hajj Omar were killed and 6 others were maimed after they came under gunfire from gangs in Tripoli," the statement said, explaining that this took place when the army was implementing security measures to restore stability in northern areas witnessing conflicts.
"Army bases in Mallouleh and Bab al-Tabbaneh came under fire from gunnies."
The military institution warned against the persisting attacks against civilians and against targeting army bases, assuring that it will firmly respond to the sources of fire.
"We call on the citizens to cooperate with the army's measures as they are taken to insure their safety and stability in the city," the Army Command stated.
The death of the two soldiers brings the toll in the second day of fighting in Tripoli to four, the other two being civilians.
LBCI said that the army's efforts to storm the areas witnessing festivities were met with resistance in some areas, resulting in the casualties.
The deaths prompted residents in the city to block roads in protest against the gunnies's targeting of the army.
Some fighters are refusing to abide by the army's orders to lay down their arms in a measure that is seen as an attempt to maintain tensions in the city, it added.
The army has consequently been opening fire against any gunshots directed against it, it continued.
Moreover, it said that sniper activity has been reported at the Mallouleh bridge in Tripoli, warning that the area is not safe for citizens.

MP Samir al-Jisr also said that the only way to control the fighting is for the army to take strong measures.
But the head of the Arab Democratic Party, Rifaat Eid, warned in remarks to An Nahar daily that his supporters will continue to respond to the sources of fire on Jabal Mohsen if the army failed to do that.
Tripoli has seen repeated festivities between Sunnis and Alawites.
In March, at least five people were killed and 26 others were maimed, including army troops, in gunbattles between Jabal Mohsen and Bab al-Tabbaneh.

"Twenty-eight members of Hizbullah's elite forces were killed in the festivities that have been ongoing since yesterday in the town of Qusayr," Observatory chief Rami Abdel Rahman told Agence La Belle France Presse.

The Joint Command of the Free Syrian Army, the loose-knit United States-backed rebel umbrella group, issued a rallying cry that supporters of Hezbollah were bound to see as inflammatory, calling the group "impure," in a phrase that could resonate as a sectarian slur against Shiites.
It congratulated rebels holding out in Qusayr, calling them "brave heroes whose victories will be highlighted by history in letters made of light as they have defended their land and their honor from the impurity of the criminal terrorist members of Hezbollah." It also taunted Hezbollah's leadership, saying, "We know very well how their gang is constructed and we know how to take it apart and we will take it apart. We see heads that are ripe for the picking."
In a dig at Lebanese families sending Hezbollah fighters to the battle, the Free Syrian Army said, "We can now say that every single family or neighborhood in Baalbek or Hermel has a dead family member among their sons who fought in Qusayr."
One relative of a slain Hezbollah fighter spoke in equally strong terms about the battle, saying in an interview that it was as crucial for the party as the struggle against Israel.
Rebels said they destroyed seven armored vehicles and killed dozens more government and Hezbollah fighters, according to an activist in Qusayr.
The Observatory also said that at least six rebels had been killed on Monday, including a commander, but activists say the toll could be higher because not all bodies have been recovered. The joint command of the rebel forces also said that hospitals in Baalbek and the Hezbollah-controlled southern suburbs of Beirut had accepted many Hezbollah maimed.
On Sunday, Syrian government troops backed by Hezbollah fighters pushed into parts of Qusayr, hammering the city with Arclight airstrikes and artillery, killing at least 52 people and wounding hundreds as civilians cowered, unable to flee, activists said. By the end of the day on Sunday, about 60 percent of the city, which is in Homs Province, was under the army's control for the first time in months, one activist said.
