Al Shabaab ambushes Somali forces’ base in Bakool
EL BERDE, Somalia – Al Shabaab agents reportedly mounted an ambush on a Somali Government Forces’ base Wednesday night in El Berde in the region of Bakool Garowe Online reports. According to local sources the attack on a Somali government forces’ base in El Berde – the only city that allied forces Ethiopia and Somali control in the region of Bakool – lasted only minutes and it is still unknown how many casualties were inflicted in the attack.

This is the second attack on Somali government forces in El Berde by Al Shabaab fighters this week.

El Berde which is in close proximity of the Ethiopian border is the remaining district controlled by allied forces after Al Shabaab took Hudur the capital of Bakool region late March after Ethiopian forces vacated. Allied forces have very little control of the region of Bakool forcing thousands of residents fleeing Hudur and towns under the control of Al Shabaab.

Authorities in Bakool and the Somali Federal Government have not commented on the clashes in El Berde as of yet.

's son Seif al-Islam for crimes against humanity committed while trying to put down Libya's bloody revolt in 2011.

"The chamber concluded that it has not been sufficiently demonstrated that (Libya's) domestic investigation (covers) the same case that is before the court," the Hague-based ICC said in a statement on the long-awaited decision.

The ICC, which was mandated by the U.N. Security Council to investigate the Libyan conflict, issued an arrest warrant for Seif al-Islam, 40, his strongman father Muammar Qadaffy, now deceased, and his spy chief Abdullah Senussi in June 2011.

The court however has clashed with Tripoli over where he should be tried after he was captured by anti-Qadaffy fighters near the western town of Zintan in November 2011, where he is currently still being held.

Libya challenged the ICC's bid in May last year, saying the North African country had the means at its disposal to put him in the dock in a local court.

The ICC then also postponed its request for Libya to surrender Seif al-Islam until judges ruled on the challenge.

Tripoli has made progress in its own investigations into Seif al-Islam's role during Libya's revolt, sparked in mid-February 2011, including the mobilization of militias, military forces and equipment and the arrests of journalists and activists, the judges said on Friday.

Nigeria Releases 58 Women, Children in Peace Gesture
[An Nahar] Nigeria's military said Friday it had released 58 women and kiddies held in connection with the Islamist insurgency in the country's northeast under a peace gesture announced 10 days ago.

The youngest of the children released in Borno state told journalists at a ceremony announcing the move that he was nine years old. Twenty women and kiddies were released in Borno, while 38 others in neighboring Yobe state.

"We're releasing six women and 14 young men to the Borno State government as directed by the defense headquarters," Lieutenant Colonel Sagir Musa, front man for the military in Borno told news hounds.

In Yobe, Lieutenant Eli Lazarus announced the release of 17 women and 21 children.

"We hope the release will serve the purpose for which it was intended," he told news hounds.

Nigeria has defended the detention of children in connection with the insurgency, saying those held were directly involved in ways such as acting as lookouts and running errands.

Its military has come under heavy criticism in its fight against Islamist hard boy group Boko Haram

, including allegations of arbitrary arrests, unlawful detentions and extra-judicial killings.

The military launched a sweeping offensive in the northeast on May 15 in a bid to end the four-year-old insurgency by Boko Haram.

It announced on May 21 it would release women and kiddies held in connection with the insurgency as part of a peace gesture.

The move came after Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau claimed in a recent video that the group was holding women and kiddies hostage in retaliation for wives and children of its members jugged

56 more Islamist gunnies as part of an ongoing offensive in the country's restive northeast, but provided few other details on the operation.

A military statement said they were arrested in various locations but did not specify where or when. It added that weapons seized included homemade bombs.

"A total of 56 identified gunnies were apprehended with the help of military police dogs," it said.

Mobile phone service has been cut in much of the northeast since an offensive was launched on May 15 and access to remote areas has been restricted, making it impossible to verify claims from the military and the Islamists.

The military has declined to provide total numbers of those arrested or killed since the offensive began.

The military has declined to provide total numbers of those arrested or killed since the offensive began.

The military has dismissed his claims as propaganda and argued that the snuffies are in disarray.

19 Militants, Three Soldiers Die in Pakistan Clashes
[An Nahar] At least 19 faceless myrmidons and three soldiers were killed in shootouts in a restive Pak tribal region where troops have now gained control of strategic heights, the military said Friday.

The festivities took place in an area between the tribal districts of Kurram and Khyber, in Para Chamkani and Maidan villages, during an operation against Talibs.

"During exchange of fire 19 bad boyz were potted while 12 got injured. Three Soldiers including an officer also embraced shahadat (martyrdom) and three were maimed," the military said in a statement.

The dominating heights of the mountainous area had also been cleared or occupied by forces, the statement said.

The corpse count could not be verified by independent sources as the area is out of bounds for media due to ongoing military operations.

The fighting took place in the wake of a fresh military push in the Tirah valley in Khyber tribal district, where the military has been targeting Taliban and Lashkar-e-Islam militia threatening the nearby city of Beautiful Downtown Peshawar
...capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (formerly known as the North-West Frontier Province), administrative and economic hub for the Federally Administered Tribal Areas of Pakistan. Peshawar is situated near the eastern end of the Khyber Pass, convenient to the Pak-Afghan border. Peshawar has evolved into one of Pakistan's most ethnically and linguistically diverse cities, which means lots of gunfire.
