Yes sir folks, the usual profanity laced name calling after the question, "What do you want the president to do..." in the other bonehead post by the leftist brain damaged liberal. Why just go to happy hour and get drunk with the rest of the liberal know nothings!! Yes sir, that is the real action by the president, join in with the CHOOM GANG while the Putin invades nations across the pond.

So lets see, what does a Southern bagger recommend drivals out of the ignorant one's mouth.

Ted Cruz says, "Cruz said the U.S. must suspend Russian membership in the G8. If that doesn't give Putin pause, he added, suspensions from "the World Trade Organization and even the United Nations Security Council" should be pursued."

Looky, looky! Suggestions. No Dumbass Liberal Cuss Fit, no Dumbass Liberal name callin!

Africa Horn
Pirates attack luxury cruise liner off coast of Somalia
British passengers aboard a luxury cruise liner are recovering after the ship was attacked off the coast of Africa by pirates firing a rocket propelled grenade and machine guns.

The Bahamas-registered Seabourn Spirit was 100 miles off the coast of Somalia when the attack took place. Terrified passengers were woken by the sound of gunfire as two 25 foot rigid inflatable boats came up to the liner and started shooting as their occupants tried to get on aboard.

There were 18 British passengers on board, but all were reported to be safe after the incident.

The ship was carrying 302 passengers and crew, but there was only one casualty -- a crew member suffered minor injuries from flying debris. It is not believed that the bazooka fire struck the ship, but it was hit by small arms fire. The vessel escaped with only minor damage.

The crew used an on-board loud acoustic bang to repel the attackers who finally sped off without managing to board the liner. They did not return fire at the pirates.
This is when that joke advertisement about a cruise ship for people who want to hunt the pirates begins to make serious sense...
The drama happened in an area notorious for pirate activity, leading to warnings to stay away from the coast where bandits board ships and demand ransoms.

David Dingle, a spokesman for the Miami-based company Seabourn Cruises, owned by US cruise giant Carnival, said Britons were aboard but he could not confirm the number. He said the ship was en route to Mombasa in Kenya on a 16-day cruise out of Alexandria in Egypt.

The 10,000-ton liner offers the height of luxury, with huge suites, marble bathrooms and more than one crew member to each passenger on board. Most of the passengers are believed to be American.
Perhaps it should offer a gun deck, choice of weapons and lots of ammo...
"The ship's crew immediately initiated a trained response and as a result of protective and evasive measures taken the occupants of the small craft were unable to gain access to the ship," Mr Dingle said.

He said that when the rocket propelled grenade-type weapon was fired at the ship, the crew and passengers remained calm.
Oh sure they were...
"The passengers were somewhat surprised and shocked because it happened at 5.30am in the morning and they were woken," he explained. "The passengers were mustered in a public room, told what was going on and reassured that we were fighting off the attack. They were shocked but no passengers were injured whatsoever.

"We are extremely pleased that all the measures worked. The captain and crew did a fantastic job."

The ship has now cancelled its stop at Africa Mombasa and will end the cruise in the Seychelles on Monday.

Mr Dingle said authorities in the US and the Department of Transport in the UK have been informed of the attack. He said the company had no reason to believe it was a terrorist attack and all the evidence pointed to pirates.
Is there a practical difference?

Libya ex-Rebel Chief Shot Dead in Gadhafi Home Town
[An Nahar] Gunmen Saturday rubbed out a former rebel chief who worked for local councils set up after the 2011 uprising that ousted and killed dictator Muammar Qadaffy
...Proof that a madman with money will be politely received for at least 42 years until his people get tired of him and kill him...
, a security official said.

Makhluf al-Ferjani was killed in Qadaffy's home town of Sirte, where he headed the local military council, said the official, speaking on condition of anonymity
... for fear of being murdered...

A medical source at the Ibn Sina hospital in the Mediterranean oasis town east of Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
said he was killed by bullets to the head and chest.

The local military councils, which are under the jurisdiction of the defense ministry, were set up amid lawlessness that spiraled after Qadaffy's overthrow.

Ferjani's killing is the latest to target the army, security forces, judges and other public figures, mostly in eastern Libya where the uprising took root.

Libya's weak central government has struggled to rein in the former rebels, blaming them and Islamists for the wave of violence across the country.

Prime Minister Ali Zeidan
... served as a diplomat for Libya during the 1970s, serving in India under Ambassador Mohammed Magariaf. Both men defected in 1980 and went on to form the National Front for the Salvation of Libya. Zeidan spent nearly three decades in exile in Geneva after the defection. During the revolution Zeidan served as the National Transitional Council's Europe envoy, and is credited as having played a key role in persuading French President Nicolas Sarkozy to support the anti-Qadaffy forces...
was himself kidnapped by gunnies for several hours last year, and deputy industry minister Hassan al-Droui was killed in Sirte on January 12.

Sirte, on the Mediterranean coast, was the last regime bastion to fall into rebel hands in the uprising.

U.N. Gunships Strike Ugandan Muslim Rebels in DR Congo
[An Nahar] U.N. gunships targeted a base of the Ugandan Moslem rebel group ADF-Nalu in the eastern DR Congo for the first time Saturday, the U.N. force said.

The Congolese army had in recent weeks taken the lead in the drive to root out ADF-Nalu, one of the oldest but lesser known armed organizations in the Democratic Republic of the Congo
...formerly the Congo Free State, Belgian Congo, Zaire, and who knows what else, not to be confused with the Brazzaville Congo aka Republic of Congo, which is much smaller and much more (for Africa) stable. DRC gave the world Patrice Lumumba and Joseph Mobutu, followed by years of tedious civil war. Its principle industry seems to be the production of corpses. With a population of about 74 million it has lots of raw material...
A statement from MONUSCO, the U.N. mission in the country, said two attack helicopters struck an ADF base northeast of Beni at 1255 GMT.

Beni is a remote town in North Kivu, a restive resource-rich province that borders Rwanda and Uganda.

"This operation, conducted with great precision, helps achieve a clear goal: bringing an end to ADF's recent attacks against the civilian population," said MONUSCO chief Martin Kobler, quoted in the statement.

The FARDC regular army launched its offensive against ADF-Nalu on January 16 and announced in mid-February that it had inflicted severe losses on the rebels.

Backed by a newly-formed U.N. intervention brigade with an unprecedented offensive mandate, the Congolese army notched up a rare military victory against the M-23 Tutsi rebel group.

The ADF-Nalu was next on the list.

MONUSCO has vowed to help Kinshasa rid the region of the myriad rebel groups running amok in one of the continent's most impenetrable regions.

ADF-Nalu stands for Allied Democratic Forces-National Army for the Liberation of Uganda. It is one of the oldest but lesser known rebellions based in North-Kivu and is considered the only Islamist organization in the region.

The Brussels-based think tank International Crisis Group said in a report last year the rebel group had "shown remarkable resilience attributable to its geostrategic position, its successful integration into the cross-border economy and corruption in the security forces".

ADF-Nalu is led by Jamil Mukulu, a Christian convert to Islam, and has never really managed to take its fight against Yoweri Museveni's regime to Uganda.

Some observers have voiced concern that it could become a link in the growing network of radical Islamist groups in East Africa.

Tension In Benue Over Missing Boko Haram Kingpin
[LEADERSHIP.NG] Barely three days after a man suspected to be a kingpin of the dreaded Islamic sect Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
was enjugged
Drop the rosco, Muggsy, or you're one with the ages!
in Makurdi, Benue State, the state government and state police command are still trying to explain how he got away.

Tension heightened in the state following the announcement of the alleged terrorist's arrest on Radio Benue. Shortly after the supposed arrest, the state government claimed that the man was whisked away by coppers to an unknown destination. However,
if you can't say something nice about a person some juicy gossip will go well...
the police countered the claim.

According to a statement released by Special Adviser to the Benue State governor, Cletus Akwaya, on Thursday, "a very important member of the sect was arrested by men of the police in Kanshio, a suburb of Makurdi town". Shortly after the blurb, the announcement was made on the radio station.

The statement revealed that the alleged terrorist, a Fulani from Taraba State, was arrested following a tip-off, and was found to be in possession of six blank cheques and copies of maps of some parts of Makurdi, the state capital.

"The detailed descriptions of the places were contained in an exercise book. A police source disclosed that the maps showed some possible targets for attacks. The suspect was whisked away to an unknown location where he is being questioned by security operatives," a portion of the statement read.

In a turn of events, however, the front man of the Benue State Police Command, DSP Daniel Ezeala, denied the arrest yesterday. He insisted that the police only arrested a Chadian who had long been handed over to the men of the Nigerian Immigration Service.

"The man we arrested is a Chadian and if we find him to have breached the law in any way or suspect him of any wrong-doing, we shall charge him to court. But we have handed him over to the immigration service," Ezeala said.

Eaeala could, however, not confirm if the said suspect had the items listed in the statement in his position as made public by Akwaya's statement. "There is nothing like that, investigation into the matter is on-going," he said.

13 Boko Haram terrorists killed in military raid
[NIGERIANEYE] The Director of Defence Information, Maj. Gen Chris Olukolade, has said that 13 turbans were killed in a military raid on makeshift bully boyz camp located between Borno and Adamawa states on Friday.

Olukolade said in an electronic mail on Friday that the special forces also tossed in the clink
Please don't kill me!
some of the turbans who escaped the raid in Maiduguri and its environs.

He did not give the exact number of turbans arrested in the raid.

Olukolade said calm had returned to Shuwa community, which was attacked by the turbans on Thursday after the confusion and panic in the community when the people mistook the convoy of troops in pursuit of the bully boyz for the Death Eaters.

He said the community members became panicky when they saw the column of military trucks because they mistook them for turbans on a mission for another attack.

Olukolade said the confusion sparked the rumour that the Governor of Adamawa State, Murtala Nyako, was attacked while visiting the community.

He said, "The troops were deployed to block a discovered entry and exit point of bully boyz into the country through the state."

Military locates 12 Boko Haram hideouts in Cameroon
[NIGERIANEYE] The Nigerian armed forces have located about a dozen hideouts of the Islamic sect, Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
, in neighbouring Cameroon.

Consequently, the Federal Government is mounting pressure on the neighbouring country for collaboration in routing the hard boys.

President Goodluck Jonathan
... 14th President of Nigeria. He was Governor of Bayelsa State from 9 December 2005 to 28 May 2007, and was sworn in as Vice President on 29 May 2007. Jonathan is a member of the ruling People's Democratic Party (PDP). He is a lover of nifty hats, which makes him easily recognizable unless someone else in the room is wearing a neat chapeau...
and President Paul Biya are already in talks on how to deal with the security challenge, authoritative sources said yesterday in Abuja.

Nigeria is said to have tabled four conditions before Cameroon for its consideration on the issue.

A military source said that many Boko Haram leaders and field commanders have relocated to Cameroon from where they direct operations in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa states, the latest being Sunday's massacre of about 50 students of Federal Government College, Buni Yadi, Yobe State and Wednesday's attack in Madagali and Michika Local Government areas of Adamawa State.

The source said: "We have been able to establish that Boko Haram now operates fully from Cameroon where they have more than a dozen of deadly bases. Most of their wanted leaders live in havens in the Frenchie-loving country.

"The sad aspect is that they have been operating with impunity in Cameroon. We do not know why they enjoy such latitude.

"We have done reconnaissance which confirmed that the sect has been coming in and out of Cameroon to wreak havoc on innocent villages and communities in Nigeria."

The Federal Government, the source said, has been liaising with the Cameroonian government although it is yet to get a decisive response.

Nigeria's demands are:

  • Allowing Nigerian troops to enter Cameroon for limited engagement against fleeing Boko Haram members

  • Permitting troops to take the battle to the sect in their bases in Cameroon, especially in border areas

  • Temporary closure and freezing of movement at Nigeria/ Cameroon borders

  • Stoppage of harbouring or hosting of Boko Haram leaders under whatever guise.

The source added: "The Federal Government has been mounting pressure on Cameroon to collaborate with Nigeria to curtail the hard boys.

"In the 80s, when there was a similar insurgency by the Maitatsine sect, Nigerian troops trailed them to their based in Chad.

"The understanding is necessary because it is obvious that the sect is not ready for any constructive dialogue again and their recalcitrance is threatening our illusory sovereignty.

"I think we have had enough from these hard boyz who are taking us for granted. The battle line is certainly drawn."

President Biya is said to be receptive to the idea of co-operating with Nigeria but the source declined to go into details.

He only said: "Where Cameroon decides to accommodate the hard boyz against our security interest, we know what to do as a nation."

    President Francois Hollande
...the Socialist president of La Belle France, an economic bad joke for la Belle France but seemingly a foreign policy realist...
of La Belle France said on Thursday in Abuja that his country stood shoulder-to-shoulder with Nigeria in its battle against Boko Haram.

He pledged his support in the fight against Islamist militancy as it had done in Mali. Hollande, guest of honour for celebrations to mark 100 years since Nigeria's unification, expressed his condolences, calling the Yobe attack "brutal" and "unjustified".

#1  Cameroon is an interesting situation. Combined with a huge influx of refugees from everywhere, a low-simmering dispute with Chad (likely also a supporter of Boko Haram,) and general regional instability, it's not surprising Boko Haram took up residence there. Related, Cameroon's also an unwilling conduit for arms trafficking in the same areas, a significant part of the weaponry being of Iranian origin.

Their military is an anomaly in West Africa; it's apolitical and civilian-controlled. French advisers, with a growing liaison with China (including Chinese technical support and an increasing number of troops trained in China.)

Number-wise, it's relatively small, probably not much more than 20K or so. That's not really enough to control the regions where Boko Haram and the weapons trafficking are.

Boko Haram Kills 15 In Adamawa
[TRIBUNE.NG] BARELY 24 hours after the massacre of some students in Yobe State, rampaging gunnies on Wednesday night descended heavily on two local government areas of Adamawa state, killing, maiming as well as burning houses, including some banks.

Madagli and Michika Local Government Areas of Adamawa State have come under heavy fresh attack as gunnies launched assault on the two local governments leading to the death of about 15 people.

In recent time, myrmidon attacks have escalated within the border villages of Adamawa and Borno resulting in the sacking of over 20 border villages.

The unknown gunnies first struck the border village of Kirchinga in Madagali Local Government at about 8:30pm where they set houses ablaze before proceeding to Shuwa where they killed eleven persons.

Eye witness account at the village said immediately the gunnies attacked Kirchinga, many of the residents fled to Shuwa for safety but the gunnies went on their trail and pursued them up to Shuwa where they killed eleven people.

Nigeria Tribune also gathered that the attackers were undaunting as they came into the town in a convoy of 13 Hilux pick up vans shooting sporadically as people scampered in different directions for safety.

The source maintained that the military personnel manning different check points in the area beat a retreat as the gunnies had a field day as they laid siege on the border villages for more than five hours.

A resident of Shuwa, Mr Kwaje Bitrus, said "the gunnies launched attack on many places in Shuwa including a Bishop's House, Theological School, cop shoppe as well as houses of prominent people in the town leading to the death of two people."

The Chairman of Madagali Local Government Mr. Maina Ularamu confirmed the incident.

A pastor who preferred anonymity, said the gunnies destroyed three banks and many shops in the town while four lives were lost in the attack which lasted throughout the night.

"When the soldiers at the military check points saw the number of the attackers, they retreated into the nearby bushes as the gunnies operated without challenge during the operation that lasted throughout the night," he said.

Similarly, the Army Public Relations Officer of the 23rd Armoured Brigade Captain Jafaru Nuhu confirmed the incident but could not ascertain the number of casualties.

28 dead in Kunming rail station violence
Twenty-eight civilians were confirmed dead and 113 others injured Saturday in a railway station attack in southwest Chinese city of Kunming, authorities said. A group of knife-wielding people attacked the Kunming Railway Station in the capital of southwest China's Yunnan Province at around 9 p.m., causing death and injuries, said the city police.
Sounds like the Uighurs staged a knife fight and were finally gunned down by the police.
It was an organized, premeditated violent terrorist attack, according to the authorities. The authorities also said five suspects were shot dead but their identities have not been confirmed yet.

A Xinhua reporter on the spot said several suspects have been controlled, while police are still questioning people in the station. The reporter said that firefighters and medical workers have arrived on the scene, and injured people have been rushed to hospital for emergency treatment. The arterial road of the station has been cordoned off.

A doctor with the Kunming No.1 People's Hospital told Xinhua over the phone that medical workers of the hospital are busy treating the injured, adding that they are still unsure of the exact number of casualties.

According to Xinhua reporters at the hospital, a dozen of bodies were seen at the hospital. As of 0:00 a.m. Sunday, more than 60 victims in the attack have been sent to the hospital, emergency registration records showed.

Yang Haifei, a local resident of Yunnan, told Xinhua that he was attacked and sustained injuries on his chest and back. Yang said he was buying a ticket when he saw a group of people rush into the station, most of them in black, and start attacking others.

"I saw a person come straight at me with a long knife and I ran away with everyone," he said, adding that people who were slower were severely injured.

"They just fell on the ground," he said.

At the guard pavilion in front of the station, three victims were crying. One of them named Yang Ziqing told Xinhua that they were waiting in the station square for a 10:50 p.m. train to Shanghai, but had to escape when a knife-wielding man suddenly came at them.

"My two town-fellows' husbands have been rushed to hospital, but I can't find my husband, and his phone went unanswered," Yang sobbed.

Pictures on Sina Weibo, the Chinese equivalent of Twitter, show local police patrolling the station. Bodies in blood can be spotted on the ground in the pictures. Doctors were seen transporting injured people to a local hospital.

A Weibo user screen-named "HuangY3xin-Dione," who was dining in a restaurant near the railway station, said that she was "scared to death," adding that she saw a group of men in black with two long knives chasing people.

According to Kunming railway bureau, train departures have not been affected.

The incident has fueled massive anger among the people across China, with netizens severely condemning the violent attacks on social websites like Sina Weibo and WeChat, a popular instant messaging service.

The security management bureau under the Ministry of Public Security called the incident a "severe violent crime" at its official Sina Weibo account. Now, the situation is gradually going stable, and the injured have been treated, while police are investigating the case, it said.

"No matter what motives the murderers hold, the killing of innocence people are against kindness and justice. The police will crack down the crimes in accordance with the law without any tolerance. May the dead rest in peace," it read.

The Kunming Railway Station, located in the southeastern area of the city, is one of the largest railway stations in southwest China. It was put into operation in 1958.

The latest violent terrorist attack that caused most civilian deaths happened in June last year in Lukqun Township of Turpan Prefecture in farwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. A total of 24 people were killed and 23 others were injured in the attack.

On October 28 last year, a jeep crashed at downtown Beijing's Tian'anman Square, causing five deaths and 40 injuries. Police found gasoline, two knives and steel sticks as well as a flag with extremist religious content in the jeep. The police later identified the deadly crash as a violent terrorist attack.

Somali man faces torture, kidnapping charges in Italy
AGRIGENTO, Italy – The trial of a Somali man, accused of helping overcrowd a migrant vessel that sank in October, killing 366 people, began Friday in Agrigento, Italy, Friday.
Let's hope the Italian prosecution is better prepared and more ethical than the recent trial of the American chick...
The trial of Mouhamud Muhidin, 34 — charged with kidnapping, conspiracy to aid illegal immigration, human trafficking and sexual violence — was adjourned shortly after it began Friday, the Italian news agency ANSA reported.

Prosecutors are relying on testimony of seven Eritrean survivors of the vessel’s sinking, who say they were tortured, imprisoned and threatened by a gang that included Muhidin. The witnesses also said they saw women raped. Authorities said Muhidin was nearly lynched when he was recognized within a migrants’ holding center.

Survivors previously said they were taken hostage on the border between Libya and Chad and tortured until relatives paid ransoms. The prisoners were then allegedly taken to Tripoli, Libya, and housed until more ransoms were paid, after which they were taken to the ship that sank in the Mediterranean Sea off the coast of Lampedusa, Italy.

Blasts targeting polio team kill 11 in Khyber agency
PESHAWAR: At least 11 people were killed and 10 wounded Saturday in bomb attacks targetting security personnel guarding a polio vaccination team in Khyber tribal agency.

The blasts in Lashoro area of the tribal region's Jamrud district were the latest attack on efforts to stamp out the crippling disease in Pakistan, which is one of only three countries where polio remains endemic.

Assistant Political Agent Nasir Khan confirmed that ten members of the Khasadar forces were killed in the attack, which damaged two vehicles belonging to the security forces. A child was also among the dead, said Khan.

Another political administration officer, Siddiq Khan, said the two planted IEDs which exploded back to back were detonated through remote-controlled devices. One of the vehicles was completely destroyed while the other was partially damaged.

Dr Rehman Khan, a surgeon at the agency hospital in Jamrud, confirmed the death toll. The doctor said eight of the wounded were brought to the Jamrud hospital, while two other were taken to the Hayatabad Medical Complex in Peshawar.

Polio persists in Pakistan with militant groups seeing vaccination campaigns as a cover for espionage. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), Pakistan recorded 91 cases of polio last year, up from 58 in 2012. WHO has warned that Peshawar is the world's "largest reservoir" of polio.

Pakistan's struggle to defeat polio stands in stark contrast to its neighbour and great rival India, which recently celebrated three years since its last polio case.

3 FC troops killed in Kalat bombing
[Pak Daily Times] QUETTA: At least three Frontier Corps (FC) personnel were killed and seven others maimed in a roadside blast in Sorab area of Kalat district on Saturday.

"An FC patrol convoy was on way to Panjgur from Kalat district when attacked with a roadside improvised bomb (IED) along the RCD Highway in Sorab," an FC front man said. "At least three soldiers were martyred," he said, adding seven others sustained splinter wounds in the attack.

One of the four FC vehicles was damaged in the blast. "The target was FC convoy," senior police officer in Kalat Nazir Kurd said. The bodies and the injured were shifted to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Quetta. According to security officials, around six to eight kilogrammes of kaboom was used in the attack.

Rescue workers, bomb disposal squad and troops reached the scene and cordoned off the area. Nobody immediately claimed the responsibility.

    Meanwhile,
...back at the buffalo wallow, Standing Buffalo drew a bead on his old enemy and squeezed the trigger...
the FC claimed to have killed 10 suspects in Sui area of Dera Bugti after an exchange of fire during a search operation. "There was heavy exchange of fire between miscreants and FC. At least 10 miscreants were killed," FC Spokesman Khan Wasay told media. "Security forces seized improvised bombs and weapons from houses in Darinjan Nalla during the search operation," he added. According to the front man, the suspects were involved in bombing of gas pipelines and carrying out attacks on security forces in Dera Bugti.

11 foreign hostages rescued in Turbat
[Pak Daily Times] QUETTA/TEHRAN: Security officials on Saturday said they had rescued 11 kidnapped foreigners - eight Iranians, two Tunisians and one Yemeni national - in Turbat near the Iranian border.

"11 foreigners were rescued in a raid in a neighbourhood of Turbat town," a security official told AFP.

The raid had been conducted in an attempt to rescue five Iranian border guards who were kidnapped on February 6 from Iran's Sistan-Balochistan
...the Pak province bordering Kandahar and Uruzgun provinces in Afghanistan and Sistan Baluchistan in Iran. Its native Baloch propulation is being displaced by Pashtuns and Punjabis and they aren't happy about it...
province, officials said. "Five Iranian soldiers who were kidnapped in early February by bully boyz and taken across the border into Pakistain have been freed," Iranian army's deputy chief of staff confirmed.

Initially, the security officials had said that those freed did not include the Iranian border guards. "The freed hostages are not thought to be the guards but believed to be connected to narco mobs operating in the province and to have been held hostage by them," the officials had said.

An Death Eater group calling itself Jaish-ul Adl, or Army of Justice, had grabbed credit for the kidnapping. The group posted pictures on its Facebook page it said were of the soldiers, handcuffed and being held in an unknown location.

Diplomatic ties between Iran and Pakistain touched a fresh low last week over fate of the kidnapped guards, when Interior Minister Abdolreza Rahmani-Fazli threatened Pakistain that Tehran may send forces into Pakistain to free them.

All political parties welcome Taliban's ceasefire statement
[Pak Daily Times] Almost all major political parties welcomed the Taliban statement in which the banned outfit announce a ceasefire for a month.

    Jamaat Ulema-e-Islam
...Assembly of Islamic Clergy, or JUI, is a Pak Deobandi (Hanafi) political party. There are two main branches, one led by Maulana Fazlur Rahman, and one led by Maulana Samiul Haq. Fazl is active in Pak politix and Sami spends more time running his madrassah. Both branches sponsor branches of the Taliban, though with plausible deniability...
-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman
Deobandi holy man, known as Mullah Diesel during the war against the Soviets, his sympathies for the Taliban have never been tempered by honesty ...
welcomed the Taliban's declaration of a ceasefire.

He termed the Taliban announcement "a wise decision" and called on Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif
... served two non-consecutive terms as prime minister, heads the Pakistain Moslem League (Nawaz). Noted for his spectacular corruption, the 1998 Pak nuclear test, border war with India, and for being tossed by General Musharraf...
to convene an all-parties conference immediately.

Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Khursheed Shah also welcomed the TTP's announcement.

Talking to the media in Sukkur, the Pakistain People's Party (PPP) leader said that his party wanted peace in the country by any means.

He said that all options must be considered to restore peace in the country, and added that if there would be sincerity from both sides, dialogue could be successful. The ANP, MQM and the PTI also welcomed the development, saying that peace must be giving a chance. The PPP and the ANP called it a positive step.

Talking to PPI on the phone soon after the Taliban announcement on Saturday, Senator Zahid Khan, the information secretary of the ANP, said that his party believed in the philosophy of non-violence action, and had always stressed the need for holding a dialogue, which was why it welcomed the Taliban announcement. He, at the same time, said that the ANP was doubtful about the sincerity of the Taliban, so it did not think that the announcement would help improve the situation of law and order in the country.

"The announcement is a positive step but there is no guaranty that different groups of the Taliban will stop their attacks," he added.

To a question, he said that surgical strikes in North Wazoo were a reaction of the army, and the government had nothing to do with it, as it did not have the guts to take any action against the krazed killers.

    Meanwhile,
...back at the pound, the little lost dog backed into the corner and showed its teeth. And what big teeth they were!...
PPP Sindh General Secretary Taj Haider also welcomed the Taliban's announcement and called it a positive step. To a question, he said that the announcement would be good for law and order in Sindh, particularly in Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
, as it had proved that the Taliban were active in the province.

Responding to a question, he said that the government should now make the Taliban accept the constitution of Pakistain and completely surrender. He said that if the Taliban did so, the PPP would support the government's amnesty for them.

Haider said that if the issue could be solved through a dialogue, surgical strikes against the Taliban in North Waziristan should also be stopped during the dialogue process, as saving someone's life was better than taking it.

    Pakistani Taleban announce month-long ceasefire
Pakistani Taleban spokesman Shahidullah Shahid on Saturday announced a month-long ceasefire to allow the resumption of stalled peace talks with the Pakistan government.
Want to bet on how long it will take for a splinter group to violate the ceasefire?
“We announce a month-long ceasefire from today and appeal to all our comrades to respect the decision and refrain from any activity during this period,” the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Taleban (TTP) spokesman told AFP.

“Because of a positive response from the government, an appeal from the religious scholars and for the better future of Pakistan we have decided not to carry out any activity (attacks) for one month,” he said.

Last month Islamabad began peace talks with the Taleban in an attempt to end a seven-year insurgency which has cost thousands of lives. But the militant group continued to carry out attacks in the country on a near-daily basis.

Government mediators later suspended dialogue with their Taleban counterparts after the insurgents claimed they had executed 23 kidnapped soldiers in a northwestern tribal region.

    Iraq
UN: 703 Iraqis killed in violence in January
The United Nations says a total of 703 Iraqis have been killed due to violence in February, excluding deaths of insurgents and those from an embattled western province.

The figures issued Saturday by the UN’s mission to Iraq show that 564 civilians and 139 members of the security forces were killed last January. UNAMI added that 1,381 more Iraqis, including 1,179 civilians, were wounded.

The capital, Baghdad, was the worst affected with 239 people killed.

The death toll for January stood at 733, also excluding Anbar province, fighting is ongoing between security forces and Al Qaeda-linked militants. The statement cited problems in verifying “the status of those killed and injured as civilians.”

Both statements also did not give a figure for militant death.

'Mentally Ill' Gaza Woman Killed by Israeli Fire
[An Nahar] A mentally ill Gazook woman was rubbed out by Israeli troops near the border early on Saturday, the Paleostinian territory's Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason,-run health ministry said.

The Israeli military confirmed soldiers had opened fire after several people approached the border security fence, hitting one of them.

"The body of Amena Atiyyeh Qdeih, 57, was found near the border in the Khazaa area" close to the southern city of Khan Yunis, a health ministry front man said.

"She had been hit by several bullets," the front man said, adding that her body could not immediately be retrieved because of continuing Israeli fire.

The Israeli military said troops had fired warning shots when several people failed to heed instructions to keep back from the security fence.

"The suspects continued to move forward, so the soldiers fired at their legs, hitting one of them," a front man said.

Both neighbors and the Gazoo health ministry said the dead woman suffered from mental health problems.

The shooting came after an Israeli aircraft hit a suspected rocket launch site in the north of the Gazoo Strip late on Friday.

Tensions have risen in and around Gazoo after a year of relative calm.
