New lead in Nairobi bus blasts
Outrage is growing after suspected terrorists targeted two public service vehicles, this time in the capital city Nairobi. The 5.30pm twin blasts on the Thika Superhighway left at least two dead and dozens injured, at least three had their legs severed. Women and children were among the casualties in the latest campaign of terror.

It came as police revealed that the terror suspects behind a similar attack on a bus in Mombasa on Saturday had been arrested and released by the courts. The two, Mr Suleiman Mohamed Said and Mr Jamal Mohamed Awadh, were in the Masjid Musa when police raided it in February to flush out radicalised youth who were attending a banned seminar on Islamic jihad.

In the Nairobi attacks, Deputy head of bomb disposal Eliud Lagat said improvised explosive devices (IEDs) were used to maim passengersin the two 60-seater buses. Police spokesperson Zipporah Mboroki added that preliminary investigations indicated the IEDs had been planted in the buses. One was headed to Githurai from the city centre and the other to Mwiki.

In the first explosion, which occurred at Roasters, the impact of the blast tore off the right side of the bus and shattered all the windows. Minutes later, the second explosion rocked the Mwiki–bound bus on the underpass near the Thika Road Mall.

Mboroki said seven passengers suffered serious injuries and morethan 30 others had multiple injuries. The injured were rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH), St Mary’s and Neema hospital in Kasarani.

Three killed, dozens injured in twin bomb blasts in Nairobi
[ABC.NET.AU] At least three people were killed and dozens more maimed when bombs went kaboom! in two buses on a busy highway in the Kenyan capital Nairobi.

Two privates buses were ripped apart by what is believed to be improvised bombs.

More than 60 people were taken to hospital, some of them at death's door.

It is the second attack in Kenya in as many days after eight people died in three kabooms in the coastal city of Mombasa on Saturday.

"Security agencies are in pursuit of the perpetrators of this heinous and cowardly act," Kenya's vice-president William Ruto said about the latest bombings.

Kenyan media reports said bombs appeared to have been planted on the buses, while unconfirmed reports said powerful grenades may have been thrown at them from the side of the road.

The buses blew up along the Thika Road highway, an area around eight kilometres north-east of Nairobi's city centre.

An AFP news hound at the scene saw a red passenger bus with a large hole in its side, and with the ripped panels spattered in blood.

Kenyan media also showed images of a green bus with its roof and sides buckled by an kaboom.

The Nation newspaper said the 45-seater buses were almost full when the blasts occurred.

Egypt Claims Israeli Spy Ring Uncovered
[IsraelTimes] Egyptian government officials announced Sunday that they had captured an espionage network in the country that was working for several foreign intelligence organizations, including Israel's.

According to Egyptian news reports, 12 suspects were placed in durance vile

by Egyptian security services. Three of the suspects were Egyptians, and the remainder had entered the country as tourists, the Ynet news site reported.
"Come to picturesque Egypt and enjoy their ancient prisons -- better than Turkey's!"
The Egyptian newspaper Alyoum Sabaa said the suspects had gathered information on the current political climate in Egypt. Presidential elections, the first since the Moslem Brüderbund's Mohammed Morsi

In February 2014, Egyptian authorities charged four people for spying for Israel's Mossad. Eight others were tried, including five Israelis and three Egyptians, on similar charges in a court in the Suez Canal city of Ismailia. The Israelis were tried in absentia.

Egypt Militants Claim Responsibility for 2 Attacks
[An Nahar] An Egyptian hard boy group has grabbed credit for twin suicide kabooms that killed three people and maimed eight on Friday in the southern Sinai Peninsula.

In a statement posted Sunday on hard boy websites, al-Qaeda inspired group Ansar Beit al-Maqdis warned the Egyptian army "we will not rest until we achieve retribution for the blood and honor of the Mohammedans."

In the first attack, a jacket wallah went kaboom! in front of a bus carrying workers, killing one and wounding three. Another bomber went kaboom! at an army checkpoint, killing a soldier and a civilian passer-by and wounding five others.

The group urged the Egyptian people to "rebel against this oppressive and tyrannical regime" and not resort only to peaceful opposition movements.

Arabia
Army kills 37 Qaeda suspects in south Yemen
Yemen’s army killed 37 Al Qaeda suspects and wounded dozens on Sunday as part of a major offensive launched in the south of the country last week, the defence ministry said.

The “terrorists” were killed in the Maifaa region of Shabwa province on the sixth day of the operation against Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) militants, the ministry said in text messages sent to journalists.

On Friday, soldiers backed by warplanes killed five suspected Al Qaeda militants in the same area.

The offensive has gathered pace, resulting in the deaths of 67 militants and more than 24 soldiers, according to an AFP tally based on official figures. Hours ahead of Sunday’s raid, state news agency Saba reported that army reinforcements had been dispatched to Shabwa to “deal with Al Qaeda”.

Forty suicide jackets seized at Torkham border
[DAWN] Security forces on Sunday seized 40 boom jackets at the Torkham border which were being smuggled into Pakistain from Afghanistan.

Official sources said the suicide jackets did not contain any explosives, but were being transported to Pakistain with the intention of being used for suicide missions.
The ISI thought they had compartmentalized the good Taliban in Afghanistan and the bad Taliban in Pakistan. But really, they are just one large, amorphous group sharing personnel and the resources ISI donated. It's all about sowing and reaping, dear generals.
The sources said that this was going to be done with the aid of local operators who were to fill the jackets with explosives.

The officials said that the Khasadar force personnel have also tossed in the calaboose

an Afghan national who was smuggling the jackets into Pakistain.

The accused has been shifted to Landikotal jail where authorities are further investigating the matter.

Some sources say that the accused might have been a spy tasked with the shipment but there is no official confirmation about this information.

Troops kill two key TTP men
[DAWN] Two leaders of the outlawed Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistain (TTP) were killed in festivities with security forces in the Bober area of South Wazoo, officials said on Saturday.

Irfan Mehsud, son of Azam Tariq, a member of the central shura and former front man for the TTP, was killed in an exchange of fire with troops as sporadic festivities continued in Bober. An official source identified the other slain leader as Wafadar Mehsud.

Officials claimed that five TTP supporters had also been killed in festivities on Friday and Saturday.

Security forces and supporters of TTP leader Khan Said alias Sajna have been engaged in fighting since Monday. His supporters, including foreigners, have set up hideouts in Bober.

Sources in the TTP confirmed the killing of Irfan Mehsud. About Wafadar Mehsud, they said he had sustained minor injuries in the fighting.

They claimed that eight soldiers had been killed in festivities, but officials did not confirm that.

Militants said security forces, backed by helicopter gunships, had launched an undeclared offensive and destroyed their hideouts in Bober. They admitted that troops had made an advance in the area.

They said nomads had been caught in the conflict and families who had returned to their homes only recently after having been displaced earlier had again moved to safe locations. They claimed that several women and kiddies had suffered injuries in artillery shelling.

Pakistani security official killed by Afghan firing
A Pakistani security official was killed on Sunday by firing from Afghanistan in the mountainous border tribal region of Bajaur, military officials said.

The military said in a statement the incident happened at 11:45. It was unclear whether the firing came from Afghan forces or from Pakistani or Afghan militants hiding across the border.

“We don’t have more information yet. We can only confirm that a security official was killed because of firing across the border in Bajaur region,” said a senior military official when contacted for details.

Iraq
Iraq Violence Kills over 30 People in 24 Hours
[An Nahar] Violence in Iraq, including shelling in a Death Eater-held city and an attack targeting Shiite pilgrims, has killed more than 30 people in 24 hours, officials said Sunday.

The bloodshed comes as officials count ballots from the April 30 general election, the first since U.S. troops withdrew in late 2011, and amid a protracted surge in nationwide unrest that has sparked fears of a return to the sectarian killing sprees of 2006-2007.

While officials are quick to blame external factors like the civil war in neighboring Syria for the heightened violence, analysts and diplomats say widespread anger among the Sunni Arab minority is also a key cause.

In Fallujah,
... the City of Mosques, which might have somthing to do with why it's not called Center of Prosperity or a really nice place to raise your kids...
just a short drive west of Storied Baghdad, shelling in southern areas of the city killed 11 people and maimed four, Doctor Ahmed Shami said.

It was not immediately clear who was behind the bombardment, which began on Saturday evening and continued into Sunday.

In a sign of both the reach of anti-government turbans and the weakness of security forces, all of Fallujah and shifting parts of Anbar quiet provincial capital Ramadi, farther west, have been out of government control since early January.

Southeast Asia
Top Maoist militant killed in the Philippines
The Philippine military on Sunday reported that a top leader of the communist New People's Army (NPA) with a $70,000 bounty on his head was killed in a recent encounter with security forces in Sorsogon province in the Bicol Region.

Brigadier General Joselito Kakilala said the body of Recto Golimlim was recovered from a remote village in the town of Magallanes following an encounter with soldiers on April 27. But just last Friday a military asset identified the slain militant as Golimlim, described as an explosives expert and the number two man in the NPA regional command in Bicol.

Also on Friday, the military announced the arrest of another alleged top NPA officer, identified as Felix Armodia. He is blamed in a series of attacks on agricultural plantations and construction companies in the provinces of North and South Cotabato and Davao del Sur in Mindanao.

Captain Alberto Caber, spokesman for the military's Eastern Mindanao Command, said, "He (Armodia) was responsible for the series of attacks on plantations and construction firms in the region that did not give in to their demand for protection money."

The killing and arrest of the two ranking NPA leaders followed attacks by Maoist militants that resulted in the death of at least six soldiers and the wounding of another 15 in the provinces of Ilocos Sur and Isabela in Northern Luzon.

Rebel infighting in eastern Syria kills 62
The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said on Sunday the rebel infighting is taking place around a cluster of three villages in the oil-rich Deir El Zour province near the Iraqi border.

Activists say heavy fighting between rival militant groups has killed 62 fighters in eastern Syria.

Fighting has recently flared up there, and in the past four days 62 rebels have been killed, The Observatory said. The rebel-on-rebel violence has also forced hundreds of civilians to flee their homes, the group added.

Syria Army, Hizbullah Advance in Key Damascus Town
[An Nahar] Syrian rebels on Sunday reached a deal with the regime for the withdrawal of rebels, civilians and maimed people from the city of Homs, where they have been under siege for two years, as the army advanced in the strategic town of Mleiha near Damascus.

"An agreement occurred between representatives of the rebels and the chiefs of security, in the presence of the Iranian ambassador, for the pullout of fighters from the Old City to the northern countryside of Homs," said Abul Hareth al-Khalidi, a rebel negotiator.

Dangerous Fugitive Involved in Car Bombings Arrested in Arsal
[An Nahar] Dangerous runaway Ali Ammoun, who is involved in boom-mobileings, has been placed in durance vile
You have the right to remain silent...
in the Bekaa border town of Arsal, state-run National News Agency reported on Sunday.

"The Lebanese Army arrested in Arsal a man called Ali Ammoun, who is one of the most dangerous runaways who are involved in booby-trapping cars and sending them to the Lebanese interior," NNA said.
So these would be the Salafist bombs that blew up Hizb'allah? Scarlet on crimson is a good thing. Carry on.
Voice of Leb radio (93.3) said Ammoun is accused of "sending bomb-laden cars from Syria into Leb."

Meanwhile,
...back at the shouting match, a new, even louder, voice was to be heard...
MTV pointed out that Ammoun was arrested on Saturday, noting that he was wanted on multiple arrest warrants and that he is being interrogated by the army.

The development comes amid a strict security plan that is being implemented by the army in Arsal and the entire northern Bekaa region, which has resulted in the arrest of many desperados.

On April 9, the army arrested in Arsal the dangerous runaway Mohammed Qassem along with several Syrian gunnies.

State Commissioner to the Military Court Judge Saqr Saqr later charged Qassem and several others with belonging to a terrorist organization.

They were charged with belonging to the Syrian al-Nusra Front, an al-Qaeda-linked rebel movement, carrying out terrorist attacks, the possession of arms, and booby-trapping vehicles.

Al-Akhbar newspaper has reported that security forces are pursuing several explosive-rigged vehicles that were mentioned by Qassem during his interrogation.
