[Ynet] KABUL - A provincial official says four Afghan coppers were killed and another one was maimed when their vehicle struck a roadside kaboom in the country's south.

Omer Zwak, front man for the provincial governor of Helmand
...an Afghan province populated mostly by Pashtuns, adjacent to Injun country in Pak Balochistan...
province, said on Wednesday that the incident occurred on Tuesday evening while the coppers were on their way back from an operation in Sangin district.

Zwak says the police vehicle was completely destroyed in the blast.

No one has grabbed credit for the attack in Sangin.

Kenyan police arrest tailor with security uniforms in Wajir
Police are interrogating a tailor arrested in the border town of Wajir who is suspected of selling security uniforms to al Shabaab.

Wajir County Commissioner Naftali Mungathia said the uniforms which include the military jungles of regular and administration police were found stashed at the tailor’s shop by military intelligence officers. Mr Mungathia said they suspect the uniforms were being sold to members of al Shabaab militia and that of armed clan militia currently engaged in inter-clan warfare in Wajir and Mandera County.

“Our security uniforms are usually highly protected from criminals who can get access to them and we are wondering how the tailor got such huge consignments of the uniform,” he said.

Mr Mungathia said several police officers including Wajir officer commanding station (OCS), were recording statement to assist in the investigations since they were mentioned by the tailor as those he was making the uniform for.

“We have established a consignment of 15 newly made jungle uniforms was dispatched on Monday and we are doing a probe to establish who the recipients of the delivery were,” he noted.

The government administrator said they highly suspect, the uniforms have been going to wrong hands of criminals, adding that, three clan militia who were among those who raided Gunana village and killed four people were found to be in a full police uniform an indication that, they were being supplied from the tailor’s shop.

ONLF, Al Shabab fought against Somalia Army in Bakool region
The upshot of this article is that a non Al Qaeda group in the Pgaden region is helping an Al Qaeda group against the Somali government.

Here is what Wikipedia sez. Here is what the ONLF sez about themselves.

The Al Qaeda-linked group of Al Shabab and the Ogaden National Liberation Army [ONLF] fought against Somalia National Army and the African Union Forces in Bakool region in recent weeks' fierce battle that killed more than 40 people, according to Bakool Governor Mohamed Abdi Tool.

The governor said the ONLF which is an armed militia that fought against Ethiopia crossed into Somalia and helped the militant group in Aato district near the Ethiopian-Somali border.

"We have credible information about ONLF's involvement in the fight last week," Mr Tool said.

Al Shabab group carried out a deadly attack on army bases in Aato village last week. The joint forces of Somalia and Ethiopia then launched a massive operation on several towns where the militants were hiding.

If confirmed, this is the first direct battle by Al Shabab and ONLF carried together on Somalia Army bases in Somalia.

Al Shabab is a jihadist militia based in Somalia. In 2012, the group joined the Al-Qaeda network as a cell but ONLF is a separatist rebel group fighting to make the region in eastern Ethiopia (known as Ogadenia) an independent state.

ICRC Confirms Aid Worker Killed in Libya's Sirte
[AnNahar] Gunmen killed a Swiss national working in Libya for the International Committee for the Red Thingy when they intercepted his car in the city of Sirte on Wednesday, the Red Islamic Thingy said.

"The ICRC's head of mission in Misrata was killed today as he was carrying out a visit to Sirte," Red Islamic Thingy front man Mohammed Mustafa al-Misrati told AFP.

Misrati said the ICRC worker was killed when unidentified gunnies stopped his car in the coastal city of Sirte, 500 kilometers (300 miles) east of Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
, where he had been working with the Libyan Red Islamic Thingy's local branch.

The ICRC in Geneva confirmed the death an employee in Libya.

"He was attacked by gunnies as he left a meeting with two colleagues. He died in Sirte's hospital. His colleagues are unhurt but in shock," ICRC front man Wolde Saugeron told AFP.

Since the popular uprising that toppled dictator Muammar Qadaffy
...who single-handedly turned a moderately prosperous kingdom into a dictator's fantasyland and was then murdered by his indignant subjects 42 years later...
in 2011, the country has been awash with heavy weapons and rival militias with varying ideological and political bents have controlled tracts of territory across the North African nation.

Attacks have targeted members of the security forces and foreigners in eastern Libya, particularly the city of Benghazi, where several powerful Islamist militias are based.

No group has claimed the attacks, but jihadist groups in the region have been blamed for the bombings and shootings.

Red Thingy offices in Benghazi and Misrata were targeted in 2012, although they left no casualties.

Libya: Haftar Escapes Suicide Attack
[AnNahar] A rogue general, whose repeated deadly assaults on jihadists in Libya's second city Benghazi have earned him threats of reprisal, escaped a suicide kaboom Wednesday, one of his commanders said.

But three loyalists of former general and longtime U.S. exile Khalifa Haftar were killed in the attack on a villa outside the eastern city, the commander told Agence La Belle France Presse.

Bullets in the Classroom: Cameroon Students Caught in Boko Haram Crossfire
This explains why Cameroon is sending troops to join the fight against Boko Haram.
[AnNahar] Stray bullets regularly whizz through the courtyard of the Fotokol highschool in northern Cameroon, a terrifying reminder of the Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
gunnies carrying out deadly raids just across the border with Nigeria.

Their insides cramped with fear, pupils' eyes dart from their teacher towards the windows during class, unable to concentrate on their lessons.

"We have a phobia, the danger is always there," said Boris Bouba, a 20-year-old student at the school.

"When we are in class, we are always keeping watch on the windows. We can never fully concentrate because we are afraid."

As the school year wraps up, pupils gathering in the tree-lined courtyard appear impatient to get their reports and leave as soon as possible.

"We are always on the alert," school headmaster Jean Felix Nyioto told Agence La Belle France Presse, seated behind his desk in a cramped office.

"At any moment gunfire crackles on the other side, but also from time to time here" in Fotokol.

The other side refers to Gamboru, a Nigerian village descended upon by swarms of Boko Haram fighters in May. The forces of Evil opened fire on residents in an attack which local sources say left at least 300 people dead.

The Fotokol highschool is just 300 meters (nearly 1,000 feet) away from Gamboru, separated by only a small river.

However there is no fence or security for the nearly 600 uniformed youngsters who file into its classrooms every day.

- Threats to burn down school -

His expression taut, Nyioto describes how bullets from Gamboru regularly zing through the highschool, and mortar shells fall nearby.

However the headmaster is currently more anxious about flyers that recently appeared on the streets of Fotokol, threatening direct attacks on the school and its teachers.

"Boko Haram has threatened to burn down the school, customs and government buildings. We are so scared of being targeted," said another student, Ali Abba.

Boko Haram, which has been waging a violent insurgency in Nigeria's north since 2009, loosely translates as "Western education is forbidden".

The hardline Islamists have burned down many schools, often massacring students in their sleep. In February nearly 60 Nigerian pupils were killed in an attack on their dormitory before it was razed to the ground.

Their deadly insurgency hit international headlines in April when 219 schoolgirls were taken hostage in the remote northeastern town of Chibok.

Cameroon, which shares 2,000 kilometers (1,250 miles) of border with Nigeria, is increasingly targeted by Boko Haram. The Islamist gunnies have already kidnapped several foreigners there.

In mid-May suspected gunnies from the group took 10 Chinese road workers captive in an attack which left a Cameroonian soldier dead.

- Kidnapping terror -

The girls at Fotokol highschool are particularly afraid of what Boko Haram may have in store for them.

"I am so scared Boko Haram will come to our school and kidnap us," said Sidonie Dimissigue, 15, a Christian who says she has been wracked with anxiety and unable to concentrate in class since hearing of the Chibok attack.

"Thoughts are racing through my head. I speak to Daddy about them to try and calm down," she said.

Alice Kouvou, 20, said she decided to stay in school despite efforts by her parents to get her to leave Fotokol.

She is afraid the kidnapping of the Nigerian girls will "radicalise Mohammedan parents who already don't like sending their children to school." Especially girls.

- Some 'lost their minds' -

Surrounded by fellow pupils, Ali Abba pulls out his cellphone to show them a series of gruesome images. In one, about 20 bodies are heaped on top of each other, in another you see burned out cars.

"These are pictures of the Gamboru massacre," said Abba, who says he was in the town two days after the attack.

The raid on Gamboru took place as students were sitting their final exams.

"When the kabooms started all the students abandoned their work. They jumped out of the windows to escape" and some were later found up to 15 kilometers away, said Nyioto.

"Some were crying, others completely lost their minds," the headmaster explained, adding he was concerned about the students' "sanity".

The students are not the only ones suffering.

Five teachers hastily left town before the end of the school year as the danger mounted, and the highschool has only 10 teachers left.

"The establishment risks being left empty. Everyone says they are going to leave," says the headmaster who has vowed to stay put.

Cameroonian soldiers which arrived in Fotokol a few days ago as part of an effort to beef up security in the region, are seen as the school's only hope.

Some 300 soldiers and paramilitary officers have been deployed in the town to provide security for residents and allow children to safely attend school.

[AnNahar] German prosecutors have filed terrorism charges against a Lebanese man accused of belonging to a hard-line Islamic group in Syria, and two suspected accomplices.

Federal prosecutors said Wednesday the main suspect, identified only as Ismail I., was charged with membership in the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant

, an al-Qaeda breakaway group.

His brother, Ezzeddine I., and German national Mohammad Sobhan A. were charged with supporting it. They're also charged with procuring equipment and money.

The main suspect is accused of training and fighting for the group in Syria last year. Prosecutors say the group sent him back to Germany to procure money, medicine and military supplies.

Cross-Border Militant Attacks Kill Four Soldiers In Bajaur
[Dawn] PESHAWAR: At least four soldiers were killed and four others injured Wednesday when hard boyz from the Afghan side of the border attacked a military post in Bajaur tribal region, military officials said.

The military's media wing, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), confirmed that the attack took place on Manozangal and Moukha top checkposts and was repulsed by security forces.

"In Bajaur region during the early morning today, faceless myrmidons from across the border fired on Pak border posts," said a military source. "Four soldiers were martyred and four are injured.

Sources said this was the third cross-border attack by hard boyz since May 25.

"This is the third incident of cross-border attacks and firing since May 25 from Afghanistan," said one source.

Moreover, intelligence sources suspect that Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistain (TTP) chief Mullah Fazlullah
...son-in-law of holy man Sufi Mohammad. Known as Mullah FM, Fazlullah had the habit of grabbing his FM mike when the mood struck him and bellowing forth sermons. Sufi suckered the Pak govt into imposing Shariah on the Swat Valley and then stepped aside whilst Fazlullah and his Talibs imposed a reign of terror on the populace like they hadn't seen before, at least not for a thousand years or so. For some reason the Pak intel services were never able to locate his transmitter, much less bomb it. After ruling the place like a conquered province for a year or so, Fazlullah's Talibs began gobbling up more territory as they pushed toward Islamabad, at which point as a matter of self-preservation the Mighty Pak Army threw them out and chased them into Afghanistan...
-led hard boyz based in Kunar and Nuristan along with factions based in Bajaur and Mohmand tribal areas may be involved in the cross-border attacks along with what they described as foreign elements.

Soon after the attack, the Pak foreign office condemned the attack and said it had raised the issue with the Afghan government in Kabul and with the country's embassy in Islamabad.

"This matter has been raised with the Afghan government in Kabul and with their Embassy in Islamabad," said a statement from the foreign office. "Afghanistan must take concrete steps to stop the use of its territory against Pakistain."

Bajaur agency sits directly across Afghanistan's Kunar province
... which is right down the road from Chitral. Kunar is Haqqani country.....
where a large number of suspected hard boyz who had fled operations in Swat
...a valley and an administrative district in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province of Pakistain, located 99 mi from Islamabad. It is inhabited mostly by Pashto speakers. The place has gone steadily downhill since the days when Babe Ruth was the Sultan of Swat...
and Bajaur have been living for the last few years. These people have in the past launched similar cross-border attacks.

Rooters adds: Pakistain launched its first major ground offensive in years against faceless myrmidons near the Afghan border on May 22 after several rounds of government-led peace talks ended in failure.

Afghanistan claims hundreds of rockets and bombs have landed in Afghan villages close to the border since the offensive began 11 days ago.

Last month, Pakistain lodged a formal complaint with Afghanistan after a military post in Bajaur came under heavy attack from suspected Taliban fighters
Legume, I suspect those are -- duck! -- Taliban fighters!
Inspector! How do you do it?

, killing one soldier.

The attacks on Wednesday come days after the Pak Taliban split into two groups, limiting the government's chances of finding a negotiated settlement to end the insurgency.

The breakaway group is said to be in favour of peace talks with the government while the main insurgency has announced that it will continue attacks against government and security targets.

Iraq
Iraq Attacks Kill 21
[AnNahar] A wave of attacks across Iraq, including twin boom-mobiles in an ethnically mixed tinderbox city, killed 21 people Wednesday as a year-long surge of violence showed no signs of a let-up.

Nearly 50 people were also maimed in the violence, in and around Storied Baghdad, as well as in Salaheddin and Kirkuk provinces to its north, all afflicted by near-daily bloodshed.

The attacks came a day after a jacket wallah killed a key anti-Qaeda leader battling snuffies in the conflict-hit province of Anbar.

In Wednesday's deadliest incident, two vehicles rigged with explosives went off in the center of Kirkuk,
... a thick stew of Arabs, Turkmen, Kurds, and probably Antarcticans, all of them mutually hostile most of the time...
killing eight people and wounding nine, said provincial health chief Sabah Mohammed.

Kirkuk, an oil-rich ethnically diverse city, lies at the center of a swathe of territory that Iraqi Kurdistan wants to incorporate into its three-province autonomous region over the objections of the central government in Storied Baghdad.

No group immediately grabbed credit for the attack, but Sunni snuffies frequently detonate bombs in the disputed territory, capitalizing on poor communication between Kurdish and central government security forces.

Elsewhere in northern Iraq, a suicide truck bomb killed two people in Suleiman Bek, and a corpse booby-trapped with explosives killed a policeman in nearby Tuz Khurmatu.

Both towns, like Kirkuk, lie in the disputed territory, which stretches from Iraq's border with Iran to its frontier with Syria.

In the adjoining province of Salaheddin, two separate bombings left a policeman and a soldier dead.

In the capital, a boom-mobile killed four people in a shopping area of the Sunni-majority neighborhood of Saba Abkar, while separate attacks in different Sunni-dominated districts left two others dead.

On Storied Baghdad's northern outskirts, two coppers were killed by a roadside kaboom.

Wednesday's violence came a day after a suicide bomber killed 11 people at a camp for families displaced from the conflict in the western desert province of Anbar, where security forces have struggled to retake territory from krazed killers.

Among the casualties was Mohammed Khamis Abu Richa, nephew of a well-known anti-Qaeda militia leader, and himself a key tribal commander.

Though Abu Richa frequently criticized the government, he had fought snuffies opposed to the authorities, including the powerful Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant
... the current version of al-Qaeda in Iraq, just as blood-thirsty and well-beloved as the original...
jihadist group, which he and Storied Baghdad regarded as a common enemy.

Violence is running at its highest levels since 2006-2007 when Iraq was gripped by a brutal Sunni-Shiite sectarian war that killed tens of thousands.

More than 900 people were killed last month, according to figures separately compiled by the United Nations
...where theory meets practice and practice loses...
and the government.

More than 4,000 have been killed this year, according to an AFP tally.

Officials blame external factors for the rise in bloodshed, particularly the civil war in Syria, and insist that wide-ranging operations against snuffies are having an impact.

But the violence continues unabated, with analysts and diplomats saying the Shiite-led government needs to do more to reach out to the disaffected Sunni Arab minority to reduce support for militancy.

Two Syrian Mortar Shells Land In Golan Heights
[Ynet] Defense sources estimate shells were celebratory fire from Syrian Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Horror of Homs...
's forces, rejoicing at his victory.

The Iron Dome missile defense system was activated for the first time in northern Israel to intercept the two shells. At least two intercepting misiles were fired towards the Syrian border, but were "called off" in-flight by the Iron Dome's operators when it was made clear the shells were going to fall in open fields.

The falling shells caused fires in several spots in the area between Alonei HaBashan and Ein Zivan in the Goland Heights. Firefighters were called at the scene and put out the fires.

In addition, Syrians shot machine gun fire, hitting Israeli territory at the northern Golan.

No one was hurt in any of these incidents.

Israeli defense sources believe this was celebratory fire from Syrian President Bashir al-Assad's forces, who were rejoicing at Assad's election victory. Unlike the mortar shell fire last week, when a shell went kaboom! near an IDF post on Mount Hermon and the IDF responded with artillery fire, this time the army did not respond.

Six MNLF leaders face charges for killing US soldiers
Philippine government lawyers have recommended murder charges be filed against six senior leaders of the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) and 26 of their men for the killing of two US soldiers and a Philippine marine in a bomb attack in Sulu province on Mindanao in 2009.

The Sulu provincial prosecutors office found "probable cause" to file before a regional court murder charges against the MNLF leaders and their men headed by Commander Khaid Adjibon.

The case stems from a bomb attack on a vehicle carrying Filipino and American soldiers on their way to a village in the town of Indanan. Earlier, the MNLF took responsibility for the bombing to avenge the killing of their men in an encounter with government forces in the town in September 2009.

Police revealed a break in the case occurred when a suspected MNLF bomb expert, identified as Miraji Bairullah but more popularly known as Mahang, was arrested Sunday morning.

Chief Superintendent Benjamin Magalong said Mahang did not resist when a team of policemen and soldiers served his warrant. He said, "He (Mahang) is an expert bomb-maker who trained under Jemaah Islamiyah and Al Qaeda."

Roadside bomb injures two Thai soldiers
A roadside bomb explosion wounded two soldiers while they were on foot patrol in Pattani province yesterday. The soldiers were part of a 10-man patrol unit assigned to guard a road used by teachers on their way to school. The improvised explosive device was detonated as the soldiers passed by in the morning.

Meanwhile, the Pattani Provincial Court yesterday issued a warrant for the arrest of a suspect in the murder of a policeman at his wedding on May 26. He was identified as Marudin Tahe, a suspected terrorist militant wanted under another warrant in a security-related case.

At least four men attacked the wedding party at the victim's house in Mayo district. One of the men opened fire at the groom, killing him instantly, before fleeing with the others.

In Yala province, terror insurgent suspects damaged three closed-circuit television cameras in Raman district.

In Narathiwat province, security officers arrested five men suspected in bomb attacks on two railway bridges that disrupted regional rail service last month. The arrested men were identified as Aidi Lomawa, Abdunwahit Mavo, Rosali Makae, Ibroheng Yama, and Mahadi Long. The May 14 blasts damaged the railway bridges, halting train travel to the border town of Sungai Kolok for several days.
