NATO Soldier Killed in Insurgent Attack in Eastern Afghanistan
[Tolo News] A NATO soldier was killed in an insurgent attack in eastern Afghanistan on Tuesday, the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) said.

"An ISAF service member died as a result of an enemy forces attack in eastern Afghanistan today," ISAF said in a statement.

province in the past week, local officials said.

Fifty-three other murderous Moslems were maimed in the operation.

The operation launched seven days ago and is still underway in Sherzad district of the province to clear the region of murderous Moslems, said Dadan Lawang, a military commander in Nangarhar.

There were no civilian casualties during the operation, he added.

The Taliban have only confirmed the death of nine murderous Moslems during the operation.

Before this operation in Sherzad, the ANSF launched a military operation in Hesarak district of the province in which dozens of Taliban murderous Moslems were killed.

The operation in Hesarak was launched after hundreds of Taliban murderous Moslems attacked the district and began festivities with Afghan forces over a week ago.

Recently, the murderous Moslems have become active in the eastern parts of the country, frequently targeting the Afghan forces.

Egyptian army says it killed 9 'militants' in Sinai
[Al Ahram] Nine alleged gunnies were killed by Egyptian army troops in North Sinai, announced army front man Mohammed Samir on Tuesday. According to a statement issued by Samir, another 15 wanted persons have also been nabbed
Drop the heater, Studs, or you're hist'try!

Egypt's army is countering an insurgency based in the North Sinai governorate that has so far led to the deaths of hundreds of police and army personnel.

A surge in the violence occurred after the bloody dispersal of a sit-in in support of ousted Islamist president Mohammed Morsi in August 2013, moving holy warrior activity to Egypt's capital Cairo and the Nile Delta, as well as Upper Egypt.

Moroccan Activist Jailed for 'False Torture Claim'
[AnNahar] An activist from Morocco's February 20 movement has been sentenced by a Tangiers court to a year in jail for a "false torture allegation", her lawyer told Agence La Belle France Presse.

Wafaa Charaf must also pay a fine of 50,000 Moroccan dirhams (about $6,000, 4,500 euros) in damages and interest and a fine of 1,000 dirhams ($120, 90 euros).

The young woman alleged she was "kidnapped" in April and "thrown into an unmarked police car" after a demonstration in Tangiers, where she lives.

Charaf claimed to have been "tortured" then "left at the side of a road" on the outskirts of town. But the court said she made a "false torture allegation".

During her trial, which went on late into the night on Monday, several dozen activists staged a rally of support outside the court, witnesses said.

Charaf's lawyer Mohammed Sadqo told AFP by telephone that it was an "unjust political verdict" and a "serious breach of the Moroccan constitution and international conventions against torture which Morocco has signed."

Sadqo said he plans to enter an appeal.

The February 20 movement, formed during the Arab Spring, continues to call for political and social reform in Morocco, but its activities have shrunk, with members claiming repression.

The authorities say the main claims has been met with the adoption in summer 2011 of a new constitution.

About 300 women and 500 children have for two days gathered at the gates of a military base in the Borno state capital, claiming that their spouses were ill-equipped to take on the Islamist murderous Moslems.

Boko Haram has been waging a brutal insurgency since 2009 which has left thousands of people dead, despite a state of emergency imposed in three northeast states since May 2013 and a troop surge.

The soldiers stationed in Maiduguri were due to retake the town of Gwoza, which Boko Haram overran last week, killing dozens and sending hundreds more fleeing.

'Terror' tunnel found near Yemen former president's home
[ARABNEWS] Yemeni authorities are investigating a tunnel dug near ex-president President-for-Life Ali Abdullah Saleh
... Saleh initially took power as a strongman of North Yemen in 1977, when disco was in flower, but he didn't invite Donna Summer to the inauguration and Blondie couldn't make it...
's residence, the official news agency reported Tuesday, as his party charged it was an liquidation plot.

Former strongman Saleh ruled Yemen for 33 years before being forced out in February 2012 and replaced by his deputy, Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi, under a UN- and Gulf-sponsored deal.

"The Supreme Security Committee received a complaint on Monday about a tunnel and excavation works near the residence of former president Ali Abdullah Saleh," Saba reported, quoting a committee official.

"Security services immediately began legal measures and collecting evidence" from the site, on orders from President Hadi, it said.

The 88-meter tunnel was connected to a hangar north of Saleh's residence.
Good lord. Those Hamas tunnelers have got serious digging chops.
A committee was formed to "identify the motives and parties" behind the tunnel, Saba said.

The powerful General People's Congress party, which is still headed by Saleh, said: "We were surprised to discover an organized terrorist act targeting the nation's security, stability and unity."

The tunnel was designed to "carry out a terrorist act" targeting Saleh's "life, family, his security guards and leadership" of the party, the GPC said on its website.

The party likened the alleged plot to a June 3, 2011 kaboom in his presidential compound that maimed Saleh and killed 11 people.

Critics accuse Saleh of impeding the political transition in the deeply tribal country, which is facing threats from Al-Qaeda, a northern rebellion and a southern secessionist movement.

Doctor among two shot dead in 'sectarian attacks'
[DAWN] KARACHI: Two men, including a doctor, were bumped off in separate attacks apparently on sectarian grounds in the city on Tuesday, police said. They added that in Landhi a doctor was rubbed out and his brother maimed in the evening.

Dr Amir Mehdi, 56, was sitting at his 'Rifah-e-Aam Clinic' in Landhi-2 when two assailants riding on a cycle of violence emerged there, fired shots and rode away. The doctor and his compounder brother, Nihal Ali, suffered bullet wounds and were taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where Dr Mehdi was pronounced dead.

"Investigators are inquiring into the exact motive of the murder," said Landhi SP Akhter Farooq. However,
the difference between stupidity and genius is that genius has its limits...
a spokesperson for the Majlis-e-Wahdat-e-Moslemeen (MWM) said the victim was Shia and it was an act of sectarian killing.

Earlier, in the Pak Colony area a man was bumped off.

The police said that 40-year-old Abbas Haider Zaidi was travelling in a car when four assailants riding two cycle of violences intercepted him at the Kamal petrol pump near Bara Board and fired at him. Iraq Kurds laud Iran support in confronting ISIL
[Iran Press TV] Kurdish Peshmerga forces in Iraq have thanked the Iranian government for its role in supporting the fighters who are currently engaged in fierce battles with ISIL Takfiri
...an adherent of takfir wal hijra, an offshoot of Salafism that regards everybody who doesn't agree with them as apostates who must be killed...
terrorists, Press TV reports.

"The Iranian government has definitely backed the Kurdish troops and has showed willingness to provide more support. It is for this reason that the Kurdish president has sent a letter of thanks to the Iranian government," Halgurd Hekmat, the front man of the Kurdish Ministry of Peshmerga said.

The comments came after Peshmerga forces managed to retake the towns of Makhmour and Guwair on Sunday.

Some Kurdish media have underscored the significant role of Iranian forces and the Iraqi army in liberating the areas from the ISIL's grip. The media reports say Iranian forces have a decisive presence on the battlefield of the fight against Takfiri terrorists.

In a letter to Iranian President Hassan Rouhani published by local media on Sunday, President of Iraq's semi-autonomous Kurdistan region Masoud Barzani thanked the Islamic Theocratic Republic for throwing its weight behind Iraqi Kurds in the face of the ongoing crisis fueled by the ISIL Takfiris.

Kurdish media reports also say Tehran has dispatched shipments of humanitarian aid, including food and medicine, to Iraq's Kurdistan region.

The Kurdish fighters are planning to regain control of the town of Jalawla, located northeast of Baghdad.

"Peshmerga have taken the region of Guwair and have begun moving forward. As for Jalawla, the Peshmerga have a plan designed to regain control and we're currently waiting for zero hour. In Kirkuk district we have fended off ISIL attacks and attempts to advance as well," Hekmat added.

#1  Iranians have stepped up to the plate with food, water and medical support, making it possible for the Kurdsih forces to concentrate on military issues instead of civil ones.

Smart move by the Iranians - makes them look "humanitarian", makes them look like they are aiding the fight (and they are by allowing resources to be better directed), but without an overt military component to it.

As far as the Kurds go, this is what they want - Iranian help that doesn't involve an overt Iranian military presence in Kurdish territory.

U.S. Drones Strike Iraq Militant Mortar Team as UK Says to 'Transport' Military Supplies to Kurdish Forces
[AnNahar] U.S. drones fired on an Islamic murderous Moslem mortar position in northern Iraq on Tuesday to protect Kurdish forces battling to rescue a group of Yazidi civilian refugees, the military said.

The so-called Islamic State, the region's most powerful Sunni jihadist group, has driven thousands of members of the Yazidi minority from their homes and is besieging the refugees on an exposed mountain.

Last week, the United States launched an air campaign to break the siege of Mount Sinjar, bring humanitarian relief to the Yazidis and support Kurdish troops protecting their capital Arbil.

"U.S. military forces continued to attack ISIL faceless myrmidons in Iraq today, successfully conducting an Arclight airstrike on an ISIL mortar position north of Sinjar," the U.S. Central Command said in a statement.

"At approximately 7:55 am (1155 GMT), U.S. remotely piloted aircraft struck and destroyed an ISIL mortar position that was firing on Kurdish forces defending internally displaced Yazidi civilians who were attempting to evacuate," it said.

"All aircraft exited the strike area safely."

On Monday, the Pentagon said the U.S. military had flown between 50 and 60 sorties per day in support of the operation but did not reveal how many launched strikes or dropped humanitarian aid.

Meanwhile,
...back at the argument, Livia had made her point with her knee to Jane's stomach...
Britannia on Tuesday said it would transport military supplies from other states to Kurdish forces battling jihadist murderous Moslems in northern Iraq, and would send Chinook helicopters to assist its aid mission.

"We are sending a small number of Chinook helicopters to the region for use if we decide we need further humanitarian relief options," said a statement from Prime Minister David Cameron
... has stated that he is certainly a big Thatcher fan, but I don't know whether that makes me a Thatcherite, which means he's not. Since he is not deeply ideological he lacks core principles and is easily led. He has been described as certainly not a Pitt, Elder or Younger, but he does wear a nice suit so maybe he's Beau Brummel ...
's office.

"We have also agreed to transport from other contributing states some critical military re-supplies for the Kurdish forces."

Downing Street could not immediately comment on which states would be providing the supplies.

The statement was issued after British Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond had chaired a meeting of the emergency response committee COBR and following a telephone conversation between Cameron and Australian counterpart Tony Abbott.

British Tornado fighter jets were launched to provide surveillance support for its humanitarian aid effort to help refugees fleeing jihadist Islamic State (IS) fighters in northern Iraq, soon after making a second airdrop.

The Ministry of Defense (MoD) confirmed that the Royal Air Force (RAF) had sent Tornado aircraft from RAF Marham in south east England, fitted with reconnaissance pods.

The planes were bound for RAF Akrotiri in Cyprus, where they would be ready "to provide vital intelligence".

The MoD would not confirm how many aircraft had been sent, but the BBC reported three jets had taken off at 2.00pm (1500GMT).

Downing Street stressed that Britannia's "focus remains the humanitarian situation", particularly those refugees trapped on Mount Sinjar.

Three UK aid drops have now taken place, with RAF planes delivering 3,180 re-usable water containers, filled with a total of 15,900 liters of clean water, and 816 solar lanterns.

"Meanwhile urgent planning to get those trapped on the mountainside to safety will continue in the coming days between ourselves and U.S., the Kurdish authorities and other partners," added a Downing Street spokesperson.

US Deploys Military Advisers to Northern Iraq
[VOA News] U.S. Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel says about 130 more U.S. military advisers have been deployed to northern Iraq, to assess ways in which Washington can help Baghdad deal with resurgent Islamist bully boys.
Forward air controllers and the troops needed to support/protect them?
Hagel, speaking Tuesday at a U.S. military base in Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party,, stressed that the role of the inter-service is limited to advising Iraqi security forces.

He said the deployment to the northern city of Irbil "is not a combat boots-on-the-ground operation," adding that the team will perform an in-depth Iraqi security assessment in the north.

#5  They're probably panicking. Who wouldn't when they learn that the fruit of their last few years of efforts is going to be featured as a full chapter of the worst horrors in the 21st history books.

One may very well think that the Jihadists are on their way to gobble up the Middle East and North Africa, within 1-2 years, and then launch attacks on our homeland. Think Gaza vs Israel, apply it to Europe, then to the rest of Dar al-Harb. I couldn't possibly comment on that.

#6  French have already addressed a lot of supply concerns, as have Iranian resupply efforts. US being seen as a day late and a dollar short -- except for US "security" contractors, who have been over a year in some cases, with many having long term (5+ or even 10+ years in some cases) relationships with the Kurds. Kurds trust Americans personally, but not so much our Government.

#7  To put it another way, if the US needs to talk to the Kurds for direct ground support, US pilots should not be surprised to hear Tennessee or Texas accents talking back to them.

Adam Ferguson, 35, a freelance photographer working for The Times who was accompanying Ms. Rubin, said via cellphone text that he suffered a sore jaw and some minor bumps.
Way to make yourselves the story, guys. You know nobody cares about journalists from far away, right?
"If we had been another 50 meters higher we'd all be dead," he said.

A photograph of two German yachters who disappeared at sea off Palawan Island in the Philippines has surfaced on the Internet and in the picture were masked gunmen believed to be members of the Abu Sayyaf group guarding them.

The picture shows the yachters Stefan Viktor Okonek and Herike Diesen behind a German flag and surrounded by at least ten gunmen in a forest and a black flag with an Arabic inscription can be seen in the background. Al-Basha'er Association Head Killed in Shelling on Qalamun
[AnNahar] The head of a Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
-based association was killed in Syrian troop shelling on al-Qalamun region in the neighboring country, media reports said on Tuesday.

"Head of al-Basha'er association Abou Mohammed al-Rifai and others were killed" in the latest battles in Syria, LBCI television said.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, meanwhile, reported that seven Islamists were killed in shelling on al-Qalamun region, including the leader of an Islamic brigade.

According to the Syrian revolution's official web page, al-Rifai "founded al-Farouq Brigade, which is one of the first brigades" to fight in the war against Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Oppressor of the Syrians and the Lebs...
's forces.

Before he died on Monday, he was the head of the Wa-A'eddou Brigade, the same source said.

The web page provided more details on his activities in the Syrian war: "He was the real founder of the coordinating committee in charge of taking care of Syria's refugees in Leb. Many activists in Leb were previously involved in the committee, which provided them with support and funding."

And the Local Coordination Committee of Rankous said al-Rifai was killed in the restive Qalamun town, noting that he was in charge of supervising the treatment of the maimed in the northern city of Tripoli before getting involved in military operations.

Army Mourns New Martyr in Arsal Violence, Qahwaji Rejects 'Bargaining' over Kidnapped Soldiers' Freedom
[AnNahar] The military institution mourned on Tuesday a corporal who was martyred during the army's festivities against bad boy fighters in the northeastern town of Arsal, as Army Chief Maj. Gen. Jean Qahwaji assured that there will be no bargaining over the blood of the martyred troops and the freedom of kidnapped soldiers.

"We mourn Corporal Suhail Mohammed Hassan Dennawi who was martyred during the army's festivities against terrorist groups in Arsal" last week, the Army Command announced in a communique.

Dennawi, 27, hails from the northern city of Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
His death raises the soldiers and Internal Security Forces troops' corpse count to 19.

The Arsal festivities erupted on August 2 following the arrest of a member of the al-Qaeda affiliated Al-Nusra Front. More than 80 troops were maimed and 16 civilians killed in the Bekaa violence, as 19 soldiers and 17 security forces were held captive by the bad boy turbans.

Efforts and negotiations are still ongoing to release them.

In a related matter, Qahwaji on Tuesday met with a delegation of the kidnapped soldiers' families, and shared with them the latest information and updates in the efforts exerted to free them.

"The issue of the kidnapped soldiers is a priority for the military institution and we will use all available means to release them without any delay," the Army Chief assured.

He added: "The army will not bargain over the blood of its deaders, over its maimed troops or over the freedom of its kidnapped soldiers."

"The army is ready for all options to preserve the safety of the missing troops and to free them," he stated.

Also on Tuesday, an al-Mustaqbal
... the Future Movement, political party led by Saad Hariri...
bloc delegation visited the Arsal region to inspect the situation there following last weeks' violence.

"Arsal's choice remains that of the state, the Lebanese army and the official security institutions, just like our stance," al-Mustaqbal MP Jamal al-Jarrah stated after talks with the town's municipality chief Ali al-Hujairi and the villages' prominent figures.

He continued: "These institutions have protected (Arsal) with blood and have offered deaders to safeguard the military institution and security forces, and to prevent sedition."

Addressing the people of the Bekaa town, he said: " We thank your contribution (to efforts) to release the kidnapped soldiers... We thank you all because if it weren't for you, we wouldn't have been able to do anything."

Al-Jarrah also hoped that the Arsal residents would continue treating the Syrian refugees who remain in the town "with kindness and cooperation... because they are oppressed just like us."

"We heard about violations that happened and we promise you in the name of (former Premier Saad) Hariri that these offenses will be dealt with quickly to restore the situation back to normal and recreate harmony between you and state institutions."

MP Ziad al-Qaderi said that the state's return back to Arsal is "as important as the return of the town's residents."
