Afghanistan
Bomb kills 3 policemen, injures 4 in eastern Afghanistan
[Iran Press TV] At least three Afghan coppers have been killed and four others maimed in a kaboom in Afghanistan's eastern province of Laghman.

According to a statement released by the provincial government, the blast took place in the Baad Pukh district of the province, located 260 kilometers (161 miles) east of the capital, Kabul, at around 05:00 a.m. local time (0030 GMT) on Thursday when a vehicle touched off a buried bomb.

The statement further noted that a police commander, identified as Mohammadulla, was among those killed in the attack. The Taliban later grabbed credit for the act of violence.

Roadside bombs and improvised bombs (IEDs) are by far the most lethal weapons Talibs use against Afghan forces, foreign troops and civilians.

On Wednesday, four civilians bit the dust in a similar incident in Afghanistan's southern province of Helmand

Libya airstrike targets Derna terrorists
[MAGHAREBIA] An air assault by Operation Dignity forces on Monday (August 11th) destroyed a weapons-laden boat as it approached the Libyan port of Derna.

The strike followed a warning from General Khalifa Haftar's operation that incoming vessels were likely carrying weapons and hard boys.

"We struck a boat carrying ammunition and people coming from Syria," Colonel Mohammed Hijazi said.

"Then we shelled a convoy of cars that were loaded with weapons and were heading to Tobruk, forcing some of them to return to their hideouts in Derna," he added.

Derna eyewitness Ahmed Albardi described the bombardment.

"The aircraft kept flying over Derna. Some individuals were trying to bring it down from one of the houses in the city, which was rented by terrorist Sufian al-Quma," Albardi said.

"As soon as they saw the aircraft bombing the boat, they began firing at it with anti-aircraft missiles, which landed on nearby houses killing the people inside," he added.

According to Albardi, "forces of Evil are still hiding in Derna on the roofs of buildings, in forests and on farms".

"They walk in the city without fear, because the people are scared of them," he said.

Lawyer Siraj Ahmed blamed the forces of Evil for the injury of close to a dozen residents, including at least three children.

"What happened in Derna was the result of not taking the Libyan army's warnings seriously," he told Magharebia.

"The command had already warned that if a single bullet was fired at them from any house or building, then it would become a legitimate target," he said.

Other Derna residents blamed religious bully boyz and their fatwas legitimising bloodshed.

"We, the Libyans of Derna or any other city, are moderate Mohammedans. We do not deviate and we do not want extremism or separation," Abdelaziz Monsif, 32, told Magharebia.

"Sadik Ghariani has been relieved of his duties as Mufti," he noted. "There is a warrant for his arrest so he can be tried for causing destruction in Libya through his suspicious fatwas," he said.

He added: "Ghariani, al-Quma, Salah Badi, Hakim Belhadj, Ismail Salabi, Wisam Bin Humaid, and Zahaoui should all be tried, because they are war criminals who caused destruction in Libya under the pretext that they wanted a Mohammedan state."

5 Dead in Egypt as pro-Islamists Mark Rabaa Anniversary
[An Nahar] At least five people were killed in sporadic violence in Egypt on Thursday after Islamists called protests to mark the first anniversary of a police crackdown that cost the lives of hundreds of demonstrators.

On August 14, 2013, after then army chief and now President Abdel Fattah al-Sissi had removed Egypt's first freely elected Islamist president Mohammed Morsi, police set upon thousands of Morsi supporters at protest camps in Cairo's Rabaa al-Adawiya and Nahda squares, leaving hundreds of people dead.

The assault was "one of the largest killings of demonstrators in a single day in recent history", the New York-based Human Rights Watch
... During the fiscal year ended June 30, 2011, HRW received a pledge from the Foundation to Promote Open Society, of which George Soros is Chairman, for general support totaling $100,000,000. The grant is being paid in installments of $10,000,000 over ten years.Through June 30, 2013, HRW had received $30,000,000 towards the fulfillment of the pledge....
said in a report released ahead of Thursday's anniversary.

In Rabaa al-Adawiya at least 817 people were killed, HRW said, calling for investigations into likely "crimes against humanity".

Official estimates say more than 700 people were killed at the two squares on that day.

On Thursday, attempts by Morsi supporters to demonstrate were swiftly suppressed, reflecting their dwindling ability to stage protests amid violent repression that has left more than 1,400 people dead since Morsi's overthrow in July 2013.

The pro-Morsi Anti-Coup Alliance had called for nationwide rallies under the slogan "We Demand Retribution".

Four people were killed by gunshots across Cairo when Morsi supporters clashed with riot police and civilian opponents, a security official said.

Earlier, a policeman was bumped off in a southern Cairo suburb by unknown assailants. The interior ministry blamed Morsi supporters for his death.

Police fired tear gas during festivities with pro-Morsi demonstrators in three neighborhoods of the Mediterranean city of Alexandria and in the town of Kerdasa, southwest of Cairo.

Similar trouble was reported in the Nile Delta province of Sharqiya.

At least 14 people were maimed and around 70 enjugged
Please don't kill me!
nationwide, security officials and state news agency MENA said.

Security forces were deployed around Cairo's main squares including Rabaa to thwart any attempts by pro-Morsi groups to hold rallies.

In a conference call on Tuesday, HRW executive director Kenneth Roth said the Rabaa crackdown was a "widespread systematic attack on civilian population".

He called for an investigation into the roles played in the assault by Sisi, Interior Minister Mohammed Ibrahim and Medhat Menshawy, who led the crackdown.

Hazem al-Beblawi, who was prime minister at that time, brushed off the HRW criticism.

"It was a sad decision yet necessary... I do not have the slightest doubt that what happened was right," Beblawi told Agence La Belle France Presse.

"No disproportionate force was used... it only took so long because of the vicious resistance (of the protesters)," he added.

The crackdown was launched after thousands of pro-Morsi supporters refused to end their sit-ins despite repeated warnings by the authorities.

Boko Haram: Soldiers intercept youth moving from Borno to Abuja
[PREMIUMTIMESNG] The Nigerian military on Thursday said it had intercepted about 51 youth moving from Maiduguri, Borno State, to Abuja.

This was disclosed via an unsigned statement on its website.

The military said the convoy was intercepted around 3 a.m. along Babale, Plateau State on Wednesday.

The youth, travelling in three 18-seater transit buses, were led by a woman, it said.

It added that officers of the Special Task Force were currently trying to unravel the motive of the youth movement.

The statement also disclosed that during an interrogation, the youth claimed they were being conveyed to Abuja on the order of a Borno State Government official, to meet their relatives for assistance in an economic empowerment programme. It also said the youth had made contradictory statements regarding sponsorship of their mission to Abuja.
"Why were you on the bus?"
"We was going to hunt elks."
"I thought you were going for job training!"
"Um, yeah, that too."
The military, however, added that efforts to reach the official, to verify the claims, were not responded, adding that the issue was being investigated to ascertain the genuine mission of the young people.

It said the investigation had become necessary in the light of the security situation and the suspicious claims by the youth.

Ukrainian Army overruns airport at Lugansk
By Chris Covert
Rantburg.com

As elements of the Ukrainian Army slowly tightens the ring around Donetsk, Russian nationalist forces have taken a key settlement near the opening of the ring, while Ukrainian forces have taken a key area of Lugansk, according to reports which appeared in the online edition of Voice of Sevastopol.

The heaviest fighting in the Ukrainian war against Russian nationalists continue to be in the area of Krasnii Luch where several Ukrainian military units have been attempting to close the ring surrounding the city of Donetsk.

Already Ukrainian Army units are shelling the city and its suburbs. Reports of casualties indicate Ukrainian artillery fire is being confined to industrial areas and not residential areas. That said, between five and dozens of civilians have been killed or wounded since the shelling began 30 hours ago.

Russian nationalist forces in the region claim to have four large Ukrainian military formations surrounded and unable to breakout. The units were identified as the Ukrainian 24th and 30th Mechanized Brigades and the 51st and 95th Brigades. Those forces are pinned down near Miusinsk.

According to report those formations attempted to take Miusinsk by coup after a long and rapid approach march of 400 kilometers. Russian nationalist forces say 20 Ukrainian soldiers have died in that battle. Russian nationalists claim to have lost two.

Miusinsk is the key area Russian militia now hold.

Reports are that a heavy firefight was taking place in the vicinities of Yasinovataya and Alchevsk, which are about 15 kilometers north of Krasnii Luch. Civilians may have died in the fighting.

India-Pakistan
Shots fired at Imran Khan, anti-govt protesters clash
[HINDUSTANTIMES] Clashes broke out Friday as tens of thousands of Pak protesters from two anti-government movements converged on the capital, presenting the 15-month-old civilian government with its biggest challenge yet.

Gunshots hit the vehicle of former cricket star and opposition politician Imran Khan
... aka Taliban Khan, who isn't your heaviest-duty thinker, maybe not even among the top five...
as he led his supporters through the eastern city of Gujranwala. Residents brandishing ruling-party posters attacked his convoy, throwing shoes and stones. Khan was not injured, his spokeswoman said.

Khan and populist holy man Tahir ul-Qadri are slowly leading separate processions towards Islamabad where they plan to occupy main streets until Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif
... served two non-consecutive terms as prime minister, heads the Pakistain Moslem League (Nawaz). Noted for his spectacular corruption, the 1998 Pak nuclear test, border war with India, and for being tossed by General Musharraf...
resigns.

Security was tight in the capital and authorities had blocked several main roads with shipping containers and barbed wire in a effort to thwart the marches.

Riot police were out in force but hundreds of protesters began to gather, banging drums, singing and dancing as they prepared to welcome the their comrades approaching the city.

"We have come to save our country because of the call of our leader, Imran Khan," said 36-year-old Ajaz Khan in central Islamabad. He was speaking before the shots were fired at Khan.

"We will not leave from here until our leader tells us to go."

The protests have raised questions over stability at a time when the nuclear-armed nation of 180 million is fighting an offensive against Pak Talibs and the influence of anti-Western and sectarian groups is growing.

In the latest violence, 10 Lions of Islam were killed and 13 members of the security forces were maimed in attacks on two air force bases in the city Quetta late on Thursday, the third time since June airports had been targeted.

Some members of Sharif's ruling party have suggested the protests are secretly backed by elements in the powerful military, which has had an uneasy relationship with Sharif.

How far Khan and Qadri succeed in destabilising the government is likely to depend on the stance taken by a military, which has a long history of mounting coups.

While few people think there will be a coup but many officials fear the threat of unrest will increase the military's hold over the government.

The military has been frustrated with the government, in particular over the prosecution of former army chief and president Pervez Perv Musharraf
... former dictator of Pakistain, who was less dictatorial and corrupt than any Pak civilian government to date ...
for treason.

There was also disagreement between the government and the army on how to handle the Pak Taliban with the army favouring military action and the government holding out hope for peace talks.

The government is also struggling to overcome daily power shortages, high unemployment, and spiralling crime - the legacy of decades of corruption and neglect.

Anger over the economy means the protests appeal to many disillusioned young Paks.

Both protest leaders also command intense personal loyalty from their followers. Khan is a famed former cricketer, known for his charity work, who now heads the third largest legislative bloc in the country.

Qadri, a holy man and political activist who usually lives in Canada, controls a large network of schools and Islamic charities. His followers say they intend to occupy Jinnah Avenue, Islamabad's main thoroughfare leading to many embassies and government buildings.

"We will not go back until Sharif resigns," said Qadri's front man, Shahid Mursaleen. "They killed our people, there is no way we can make a deal with them."

Qadri has accused police of killing 22 of his supporters during festivities in the eastern city of Lahore in June and this month. Police confirmed 11 deaths.

About 2,000 of Qadri's supporters were also tossed in the calaboose
Please don't kill me!
this month, police said.

Khan is protesting against alleged electoral irregularities in last year's polls.

Most observers expect the military to play referee, to maintain security but not support action to force Sharif out.

"Imran will not get from the army what he was expecting," said an analyst close to the military.

"If there was any confusion earlier about whether the army would help Imran or rescue him or topple the government, there should be none now. There is no question of army intervention."

Militant attack kills 2 policemen, civilian in Kashmir
[Iran Press TV] Two Indian coppers and a civilian have been killed after unidentified Lions of Islam attacked a police vehicle in the disputed Himalayan region of Kashmire, officials say.

The attack took place in the Galander area of Pampore town, located 14 kilometers (nine miles) south of Kashmire's main city of Srinagar, at around 7:45 p.m. local time (1415 GMT) on Wednesday as Lions of Islam opened indiscriminate fire on a police vehicle.

A police official, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said two coppers and a bystander sustained injuries in the shooting. The injured were shifted to a nearby hospital to receive medical treatment.

Following the attack, contingents of Indian army, police and paramilitary rushed to the site and cordoned off the area. However,
a clean conscience makes a soft pillow...
no one was locked away
I ain't sayin' nuttin' widdout me mout'piece!
as Lions of Islam managed to escape in the darkness.

No group has grabbed credit for the attack.

According to health authorities, the civilian was pronounced dead on arrival at hospital, while the two coppers later shuffled off the mortal coil.

Islamabad and New Delhi have fought two wars over Kashmire since their independence from British colonial rule in 1947. The arch rivals lay claim over the whole region but control parts of it.

Attack on Samungli Airbase, Quetta Airport in Pakistan; Four Killed
[NDTV] Suspected Militants tried to storm the heavily-guarded Samangi airbase and airport in Quetta, the capital of Pakistain's Balochistan
...the Pak province bordering Kandahar and Uruzgun provinces in Afghanistan and Sistan Baluchistan in Iran. Its native Baloch propulation is being displaced by Pashtuns and Punjabis and they aren't happy about it...
province, but the attack was thwarted by security forces who killed four attackers.

Four suspected holy warriors have been killed in the exchange of fire while at least five loud kabooms were heard near the airbase and airport last night, Dawn reported.

"Security forces had also found and disabled four bombs near the Khalid airbase," Sarfaraz Bugti, Home minister of the Balochistan province told PTI.

"There were two other incidents after the bombs were found. Armed men opened fire near the Samangi airbase and one kilometre from the Quetta airport," he added.

A high level source said that two of the suspected holy warriors were killed at the Khalid airbase and two at the Samangi airbase and firing was still going on at both places.

The Khalid airbase is located in the Cantonment area of Quetta in Nawakhali while the Samangi airbase is located on the outskirts of the city.

The distance between the Samangi airbase and Quetta airport is two kilometres apart.

Bugti said that at both places security forces which included police, Airport security forces and Frontier Corps had repulsed the attacks and heavy exchange of fire took place between the attacker and security forces.

Bugti also said that security forces responded after the suspected holy warriors had first fired rockets from a gutter lane near the airbase and airport.

He said additional security forces had cordoned off the area while the injured had been rushed to the Bolan Medical complex in Quetta.

#5  Mortars, small arms. But the big prize will be 122mm artillery most likely. Variant of D-30 (towed) or 2S1 (SP version). They already have some of each of those (recovered from the Iraqi Army, and some seized way back during OIF-I) so they know how to operate them. Prob is not much ammo in the supply chain so they have been held to the rear as "last ditch" defense for Kurdish areas.

If they get the D-20, those are first class 155mm Howitzers (towed). Get a few batteries of those up and running with effective fire control, and ISIS will be having some very bad days.

Iraqi Army, Militants Clash West Of Baghdad
[Ynet] Clashes between Iraqi troops and Sunni bully boyz west of Baghdad killed at least four children on Thursday as the United Nations
...the Oyster Bay money pit...
said the humanitarian crisis ignited by the advance of Islamic murderous Moslems had escalated to its highest emergency level.

The myrmidon Islamic State group's lightning advance across much of northern and western Iraq has driven hundreds of thousands of people from their homes since June, and last week prompted the US to launch aid operations and Arclight airstrikes as the murderous Moslems threatened religious minorities and the largely autonomous Kurdish region.

'Far fewer' stranded on Iraq mountain than feared: US
[ARABNEWS] An American assessment team found "far fewer" Yazidis trapped in northern Iraq than expected, making an evacuation mission less likely, as the flight of minority groups from advancing jihadists showed no let-up Thursday.

The UN refugee agency had said tens of thousands of civilians, many of them from the Yazidi religious minority, were trapped on Mount Sinjar by jihadists of the Islamic State (IS) Lion of Islam group, which has overrun swathes of Iraq and Syria.

But the Pentagon said that — based on a firsthand assessment by a small party of US military personnel — the plight of those on the mountain was not as bad as had been feared, and an evacuation mission was therefore "far less likely."

A US military official said the special forces personnel had returned safely to Arbil, the capital of Iraq's autonomous Kurdish region.

Pentagon press secretary Rear Admiral John Kirby said the fewer than 20 troops did not engage in any combat.

"The team has assessed that there are far fewer Yazidis on Mount Sinjar than previously feared, in part because of the success of humanitarian air drops, air strikes on (IS) targets, the efforts of the (Kurdish forces) and the ability of thousands of Yazidis to evacuate from the mountain each night over the last several days," he said.

"The Yazidis who remain are in better condition than previously believed and continue to have access to the food and water that we have dropped."
Ynet adds:
Two US officials say that roughly 4,500 people remain atop northern Iraq's Sinjar Mountain, and nearly half are herders who lived there before the siege and have no interest in being evacuated.

The officials, speaking on condition of anonymity
... for fear of being murdered...
because they weren't authorized to speak publicly, said a US team who spent Wednesday on the mountaintop reported numbers far smaller and circumstances less dire than feared.

Obama Reportedly Blocks Israel Missile Shipment
[ISRAELNATIONALNEWS] A new report reveals that US President Barack Obama
If you have a small business, you didn't build that...
's administration stopped a shipment of missiles to Israel late last month and tightened weapons shipment procedures to Israel, as tensions between the two nations grow amid Operation Protective Edge.

The report in the Wall Street Journal, released Wednesday night, cites US officials in Obama's administration, who say they discovered Israel had requested a large number of Hellfire missiles directly through military-to-military channels. An initial batch of the missiles was about to be shipped, according to sources in Israel and the US Congress.

At that point, the Pentagon stepped in and put the transfer on hold. Further, top White House officials instructed various US military agencies to consult with the US State Department before approving any additional requests from Israel.

A senior B.O. regime official was quoted in the report as saying the transfer shouldn't have been a routine "check-the-box approval," given Israel's defensive operation in Gazoo against Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason,, which is recognized as a terrorist organization by the US.

The decision to clamp down on future transfers was the equivalent of "the United States saying 'the buck stops here. Wait a second…It's not OK anymore,'" said the official.

A Israeli defense official confirmed the reports to Walla! on Thursday, saying "the US delayed a shipment of Hellfire missiles to the Israeli airforce." He added "apparently it was (done) on the background of national tension" with Israel.

Obama has been at odds with Israel over the defensive operation in Gazoo, making various attempts to press Israel into accepting a truce with the adamant terrorist organization of Hamas. Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu reportedly responded to the pressure by telling the administration "not to ever second guess me again," after Hamas committed one of its many ceasefire violations.

I don't think they would cap the President, but they may certainly dig up enough dirt on him, and see it's available to everyone, everywhere, to destroy him. They may even already have it. Obama is digging really, REALLY deep holes for himself.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Army Arrests Syrian Refugees in Minieh Raid
[An Nahar] The Lebanese army incarcerated
Youse'll never take me alive coppers!... [BANG!]... Ow!... I quit!
on Thursday several Syrians during a raid in the northern district of Minieh-Dinniyeh, the state-run National News Agency reported.

The military raided al-Siddiq compound in the town of al-Minieh, which houses Syrian refugees, and arrested several young men, it said.

LBCI quoted officials from the Mohammedan Scholars Committee as saying that raids on Syrian refugee encampments and the arrest of the maimed complicate the negotiations with the kidnappers of Lebanese soldiers and security forces members in the northeastern town of Arsal.

"Negotiations could not continue this way," the officials, who were not named, said.

The Mohammedan Scholars Committee is involved in the negotiations with jihadists to release the hostages.

On Wednesday, it handed Prime Minister Tammam Salam a video of seven of the captured soldiers.

Committee front man Sheikh Adnan Imama told As Safir newspaper published on Thursday that some of the captors who belong to the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant
... the current version of al-Qaeda in Iraq, just as blood-thirsty and well-beloved as the original...
have demanded the release of several Roumieh prison inmates to exchange them with the Arsal captives.

They have also called for "guaranteeing the safety of maimed rebels in Lebanese hospitals," and "ending the siege on the refugee encampments and securing humanitarian assistance to them."

Operator of Free Sunnis of Baalbek Brigade Twitter Account in ISF Captivity
[An Nahar] The Internal Security Forces announced on Thursday evening the arrest of the operator of the Free Sunnis of Baalbek Brigade's Twitter account, revealing that he a 19 years old man who hails from the Bekaa's Baalbek region.

"The Intelligence Bureau tossed in the slammer
Maw! They're comin' to get me, Maw!
on Thursday the operator of the Free Sunnis of Baalbek Brigade's Twitter account," the ISF said in a tweet on the same social media website.

He is Lebanese national H.Sh.H., 19, and has confessed to managing the shadowy group's account, the ISF added.

The mysterious Free Sunnis of Baalbek Brigade had in the past claimed that it is an affiliate of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant
... the current version of al-Qaeda in Iraq, just as blood-thirsty and well-beloved as the original...
, but the ISIL later denied that.

The Brigade has grabbed credit for several rocket and kabooms inside Leb, the last of which were the suicide kabooms in Dahr al-Baydar and Raouche's Duroy Hotel.

But what raised suspicions over the seriousness of the vague group's influence was a war of words it engaged in on March 16 with al-Nusra Front in Leb, believed to be a local franchise of the Syria-based, Qaeda-linked al-Nusra Front.

The dispute erupted after both groups grabbed credit on Twitter for a deadly suicide kaboom that rocked the Bekaa town of al-Nabi Othman.

On July 24, the account was unreachable on Twitter, despite having many followers. Another account was founded to replace it but could not enjoy the same popularity.

The obscure group has threatened to target Interior Minister Nouhad al-Mashnouq, army chief Gen. Jean Qahwaji and Maj. Suzan al-Hajj, chief of the Internal Security Forces' Cyber Crime and Intellectual Property Protection bureau.

It has repeatedly slammed the military institution as the "Crusader Army" and it vowed to task gunnies to attack churches in Leb and in the eastern Bekaa valley in particular.

Consequently, another Twitter account emerged as a response to the Free Sunnis of Baalbek Brigade under the name of "Free Crusader Brigade."

Leb: Imad Jomaa, 42 Others Charged with Belonging to Terrorist Groups
[An Nahar] State Commissioner to the Military Court Judge Saqr Saqr charged on Thursday 43 Syrians for belonging to armed terrorist groups, reported the National News Agency.

The suspects include Imad Ahmed Jomaa, whose arrest sparked festivities on August 2 between the army and Islamist gunnies in the northeastern border town of Arsal.

Ten of the suspects are in detention, while the rest are on the lam, added NNA.

They include the "emirs" of battle fronts in Syria and commanders of brigades, particularly in the Syrian town of al-Qalamoun.

They have also been charged with seeking to carry out terrorist attacks, seizing control of Lebanese territories in order to set up their own emirate, killing soldiers and civilians, sabotaging military vehicles, and damaging public and private property.

The suspects may face the death penalty if convicted.

Saqr referred their case to First Military Examining Magistrate Judge Abu Ghida.

Several soldiers were killed and maimed in the Arsal festivities that ended on August 7.

The Islamists withdrew from the town, abducting with them a number of troops and security forces.

Negotiations are ongoing with them to ensure their safe release.

Media reports have said that the gunnies are seeking to exchange the captives for Islamists detained in Roumieh Prison.

LBCI television later reported that the Moslem Scholars Committee delegation, tasked with negotiating the release of the captives, was informed by a mediator that the al-Nusra Front was irritated by Saqr's charges, threatening to halt the talks.

Syrian troops seize contested Damascus suburb
[ARABNEWS] Syrian government troops captured a fiercely contested suburb of the capital Thursday after five months of heavy fighting, flushing rebels from their last hideouts and quickly moving to crush pockets of resistance in the surrounding countryside, activists and state media said.

The fall of Mleiha, located some 10 kilometers (6 miles) southeast of downtown Damascus, marks the latest setback for rebels around the capital. Over the past year, the opposition has watched as one stronghold after another has either slipped into government hands or been forced to strike lopsided truces.

The military's campaign around Damascus has succeeded in pushing the rebels farther from the heart of the city, while also strengthening Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Horror of Homs...
's once shaky hold on the capital. Those gains, coupled with significant victories elsewhere in Syria in recent months, have swung the momentum in Syria's 3 ½-year-old conflict firmly in the government's favor.

Assad's forces have waged a ferocious offensive since April to try to dislodge rebels from Mleiha, pounding the besieged town daily with Arclight airstrikes and artillery. Both sides placed a premium on controlling Mleiha because of its strategic location near the highway to the Damascus airport and its proximity to the opposition stronghold of eastern Ghouta.

Government troops backed by fighters from the Lebanese Hezbollah, a Shiite Death Eater group, finally seized the town Thursday, the Britannia-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which relies on activists inside Syria, said.

"Mleiha is under government control, but there is still fighting in the areas surrounding the town," said Observatory director Rami Abdurrahman.

Syrian TV said army units have restored peace and security to Mleiha after destroying the last of the terrorist groups there. The government calls those fighting to topple Assad terrorists.

Syrian state TV and Leb's Al-Mayadeen and Al-Manar TV stations broadcast live from the northern part of Mleiha Thursday. The footage showed bombed out buildings and dusty, rubble-strewn streets. Electricity cables dangled from apartment blocks.

"The Syrian army carried out early Thursday a critical military operation on the edges of the town through which it was able to take by surprise and destroy large numbers of Nusra Front terrorists," Syrian TV said, referring to the Al-Qaeda-affiliated rebel group.

It showed soldiers waving their rifles in the air and shouting pro-Syria slogans in celebration. The crackle of gunfire could be heard, which the correspondent said was fighting on the edge of the town.

ISIS jihadist poses with severed head as Caliphate seize more key towns
[DAILYMAIL.CO.UK] A British rapper who travelled to Syria to fight for ISIS has posted a photograph on Twitter showing himself posing with a severed head.

The sickening image was taken in the city of Raqqa - the capital of ISIS' self-declared caliphate - and uploaded to the social media site along with the caption 'Chillin' with my homie or what's left of him.'

The photograph shows masked former rapper Abdel-Majed Abdel Bary, 23, holding the decapitated head while standing in Raqqa's central square - the same location where the seven-year-old son of Australian jihadist Khaled Sharrouf was seen holding a different severed head earlier this week.

The shocking image of Bary emerged as ISIS hard boyz seized a number of key towns and villages close to Syria's northern border with Turkey.
One wonders if it's the standard thing newbie jihadis do when they get there -- go to the head fence and pose with the nearest one. Kind of like taking a photo in front of Niagara Falls, or with Mickey Mouse at Disneyland.

#2  British rapper walked away from a 1.0 M pound home in West London and a promising career as a rap artist to join ISIS? "Promising career" and "artist" might be questioned but someone must listen to this $h!t. Rap inspired his violence? More likely he was a psychopath which is in keeping with the Islamic tradition. He was just trying to get a head.
