#1  So the US just announced that we will be sending weapons and other defense systems to Lebanon. This is about as dumb as it gets. Just how long do we think these weapons will be in Lebanon before Hezbollah and Hamas get their hands on them. Israel needs to be paying attention to this and tracking it...

Somaliland forces take control of Saah Dheer
LASANOD, Somalia -- Somaliland forces seized Sool region town of Saah Dheer after heavy fighting erupted in the early hours of Thursday morning according to officials, Garowe Online reports. Somaliland armed forces Commander-in-Chief Gen. Ismael Shaqale confirmed to BBC Somali service that they took over Saah Dheer in clean-up operation.

The battle between local forces of Khaatumo and Somaliland forces broke out after separatist administration launched pre-planned raid on Saah Dheer, 70km south west of Lasanod. The casualties on both sides remain unknown.

The attack on the border town has coincided with the inauguration ceremony of the newly elected president of Khaatumo mini-state Ali Khalif Galaydh.

On Wednesday, three planes carrying delegations from Mogadishu and Nairobi landed at airstrip in Buhotle. In attendance at the inauguration of Galaydh were Mogadishu clan elders, politicians and Federal MPs.

Khaatumo seeks substantial autonomy without Somaliland and Puntland influence. It has long called for the removal of Somaliland troops from Lasanod.
Splitters...
Somaliland militarily seized Sool regional capital of Lasanod in October 2007. Ever since, locals have been battling separatist administration’s army via guerilla warfare.

Puntland and Somaliland have fought sporadic battles since 2002 over the control of territories mainly in Sool region.

Sinai Group Says It Beheaded 4 Egyptian 'Mossad Agents'
[Ynet] Ansar Bayt al-Maqdis
...Supporters of Jerusalem, the current pen name of al-Qaeda in the Sinai Peninsula...
-- Egypt's most radical terror group -- claims responsibility for death of four Egyptians, claims they aided Israel in reported aerial attack against group.

A Sinai-based Death Eater group said on Thursday it had beheaded four Egyptians, accusing them of providing Israel with intelligence for an Arclight airstrike that killed three of its fighters.

Four headless corpses were found in the Sinai Peninsula earlier this month, security sources said - the first time that any decapitations had been made public in Egypt.

The men had been kidnapped by gunnies two days earlier while driving in the town of Sheikh Zuwaid, which is just a few kilometers (miles) from the Gazoo Strip.

In a video released on Twitter, Egypt's most dangerous Death Eater group, Ansar Bayt al-Maqdis, said the four men had been spying for Israel's Mossad spy agency.

Armed men in black masks stood over the kneeling captives as one of the snuffies read out a statement. Minutes later, the four men had their heads cuts off.

The filmed killings was reminiscent of images posted on the Internet by Islamic State, which has seized large parts of Iraq and Syria, suggesting Ansar Bayt al-Maqdis might have been inspired by the group, notorious for beheadings and executions.

The Sinai snuffies are not believed to be officially linked to Islamic State bad boys. However,
some people cause happiness wherever they go; others whenever they go...
Egyptian intelligence officials say the group has influenced Egyptian snuffies who are based just over the border with Libya.

The officials say the Libya-based fighters have also established contacts with Ansar Bayt al-Maqdis.

Though the four dead men were civilians, security sources had said initially that they might have been targeted for their perceived allegiance to the police and army.

In the video, Ansar Bayt al-Maqdis presented what it said were confessions by the men. Two of them said they had spent time in Israeli jails for smuggling. The other two said Mossad had paid them for information.

The group said the men provided intelligence used in an Arclight airstrike on July 23 in northern Sinai that killed three of its fighters. At the time, the Egyptian army said no Israeli aircraft or drones had crossed into Egyptian airspace.

Militants in the Sinai have stepped up attacks on coppers and soldiers since then-army chief Abdel Fattah al-Sissi toppled President Mohammed Mursi of the Moslem Brotherhood in July 2013.

The attacks initially targeted security forces in Sinai - a remote but strategic part of Egypt located between Israel, the Gazoo Strip and the Suez Canal - but they have since extended their reach, with bombings on the mainland.

The violence has hurt tourism, a pillar of the economy.

Three Qaida Suspects Die in Clash with Yemen Troops
[AnNahar] Three al-Qaeda suspects were killed in a clash with troops Wednesday in the southeastern Hadaramawt province, the scene of frequent attacks on the army, a military official told Agence La Belle France Presse.

The suspects attacked troops setting up a checkpoint and camp on the outskirts of the historic city of Shibam, sparking a clash that left "three al-Qaeda Lions of Islam killed and two others maimed," the official said.

Three soldiers were also hurt and the remaining snuffies fled, he added.

On August 23, al-Qaeda suspects planted a bomb on a road linking the towns of Seiyun and Shibam killing three soldiers when it went kaboom! as an army vehicle passed.

Earlier this month, six al-Qaeda suspects and three soldiers were killed in festivities in the restive province where the army has boosted its deployment.

Yemeni authorities blame al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, branded by Washington as the turban network's deadliest franchise, for most attacks on members of the security forces.

The group has on its part claimed several attacks on troops in Yemen.

France Detains Accomplice of Napoleon Hotel Potential Suicide Bomber
[AnNahar] Authorities in Gay Paree have detained a man suspected of being the accomplice of a Frenchie who is originally from the Comoros islands and who was incarcerated
Drop the heater, Studs, or you're hist'try!
in Beirut on charges of having links to the Islamic State of the Iraq and the Levant.

The pan-Arab daily al-Hayat reported on Wednesday that the French suspect, who was detained in Gay Paree, entered Leb with Fayez Bouchran, who was arrested by Lebanese authorities in June 20.

Sources said that the latter confessed that a Frenchie from Moroccan origins had accompanied him to Beirut.

However,
the way to a man's heart remains through his stomach...
the suspect had to leave Leb before the expiry of his passport.

The report said that Lebanese security forces briefed their French counterparts on Bouchran's confessions, prompting the arrest of his accomplice.

Earlier in June, security forces raided the Napoleon Hotel in Beirut's Hamra district after obtaining information on a plot to target hospitals and high-ranking security officials.

Over 100 people were interrogated during the security raid but only Bouchran was arrested and has reportedly confessed to being sent by the ISIL to carry out a terrorist attack in Leb.

Bouchran was reportedly part of a group of four would-be jacket wallahs who had come to Leb.

Iraq
Iraqi Forces Retake Villages on Way to Besieged Town
[AnNahar] Iraqi security forces backed by volunteer murderous Moslems on Thursday retook several villages located on the way to the town of Amerli, which jihadists have besieged for months, officers said.

Time is running out for Amerli's Shiite Turkmen-majority residents, who face danger both because of their faith, which jihadists consider heresy, and their resistance against the turbans, which has drawn deadly retribution elsewhere.

And the town, besieged since holy warriors led by the Islamic State (IS) jihadist group launched a sweeping offensive in June, is without electricity and running dangerously short on both food and water.

Army Staff Lieutenant General Abdulamir al-Zaidi told Agence La Belle France Presse that villages north of Al-Adhaim were retaken as part of a major operation aimed at advancing toward Amerli.

Brigadier General Khalaf Jassem confirmed that the villages had been retaken, and like Zaidi put the toll for holy warriors at more than two dozen dead.

Senior Iraqi officials and officers frequently report large turban corpse counts, but they are usually impossible to independently confirm.

In addition to the Iraqi forces advancing toward Amerli from the south, a civilian volunteer commander said that thousands of Shiite murderous Moslems from groups including Asaib Ahl al-Haq and the Badr Organization were gathering in the Tuz Khurmatu area, north of Amerli, in preparation for a battle to break the siege.

But reliance on such groups carries risks, especially after 70 people were bumped off in a Sunni mosque on August 22 by suspected Shiite militiamen.

Jihadists Burn Three Iraq Oil Wells as Kurds Attack
[AnNahar] Retreating jihadists set three wells ablaze at a northern Iraq oil field Thursday as they battled Kurdish forces who launched a major attack nearby, officials said.

The Islamic State (IS) jihadists set the wells on fire before deserting the Ain Zalah field, which was seized by bully boyz along in early August, an official from the North Oil Company said.

A colonel in the Kurdish peshmerga forces said they had launched a major attack that has seen the jihadists pushed back from several villages in the area of the oil field.

IS-led bully boyz launched a sweeping offensive in June that overran large areas of Iraq, and turned their sights on Kurdish forces in the north earlier this month, driving them back toward Arbil, the capital of their three-province autonomous region.

That advance, during which the bully boyz targeted minority groups and forced some 200,000 people to flee, sparked a campaign of U.S. air strikes which, combined with international shipments of arms and ammunition, have helped the Kurds claw back some ground.

The bully boyz reportedly rake in significant volumes of cash from the sale of oil from fields they control.

They have made repeated attempts to seize the Baiji oil refinery, which once filled some 50 percent of Iraq's demand for refined petroleum products.

The turban offensive has wreaked havoc on northern production and exports, but Iraq's main southern fields and export terminals have not been affected by the violence.

Police Arrest Hezbollah-Backed Drug Ring In Northern Israel
[Ynet] Four Arab Israelis incarcerated
Into the paddy wagon wit' yez!
on suspicion of selling drugs for drug pushers tied to Hezbollah. Shin Bet interrogation reveals the four acted on orders from Hezbollah to advance terrorist activities in Israel.

The Shin Bet, in a joint operation with the police, arrested in July four Hezbollah-backed drug pushers suspected of involvement in terror activities, it was cleared for publication Thursday.

According to the statement issued by the Shin Bet, extensive activity has been carried out in the past two weeks aimed at exposing the links between narcos in Israel and Hezbollah-affiliated drug pushers from Leb, in an attempt to nip the crime activity in its bud.

During the Shin Bet interrogation of the four who were arrested, Israeli Arab residents of the north, it was revealed that Hezbollah had been using the connection to plot terrorist attacks in Israel.

The interrogation of the suspects -- A-Khalim Abbas and his brother, Iz a-Din Abbas, both residents of Nahaf, and Ahmed Mazariv and Riyadh Marariv from Biet Zazir -- further revealed their link to George Nimer, a resident of the Lebanese town of Marjayoun and a Hezbollah bad boy. The four had reportedly transferred drugs to Nimer in Leb and established a safe communication channel used for the purpose of transporting arms.

The interrogation also revealed that Nimer had intended to transfer weapons and drugs into Israel, and had even ordered patrol groups to inspect certain areas near the border with Leb. Several of the detainees had been in contact with Nimar in the past, prior to their involvement in the current criminal case.

The interrogators also found one of the detainees to be in possession of illegal weapons. In addition, 12 more Israeli drug pushers were also arrested and taken for questioning as part of the interrogation.

"The interrogations carried out by the Shin Bet and the Israeli Police expose a broad infrastructure of Israeli drug pushers who worked with Lebanese drug pushers known for their links with Hezbollah," a statement issued by the Shin Bet said, adding that the cross-examination further revealed "moves that were made towards the transport of weapons from Israel to Leb, Syria and Jordan, using the same drug pushers."

In August 2012, it was cleared for publication that thirteen northern Israel residents were arrested a month earlier on suspicion that they planned terrorist attacks. Police and Shin Bet forces seized 21 kg of C4 explosives, advanced explosive mechanisms, weapons and narcotics. The suspects were on orders from Hezbollah and were meant to target Israelis. Serious indictments had been filed against 10 of the suspects.

An investigation was launched in early July after Israeli intelligence officers received information regarding the smuggling of a large quantity of explosives.

NPA militants capture two soldiers
The Philippine military has accused the New People's Army (NPA) of disrupting soldiers' efforts in providing basic services to the people in the hinterland communities by capturing two enlisted personnel last Friday, August 22.

In an e-mailed statement, the NPA identified the soldiers they had taken as prisoners of war (POW) as Private Marnel Cinches and Private Jerrel Yorong of the 8th Infantry Battalion (8IB). The Maoist rebels said they recovered from the soldiers a .45 caliber pistol and live ammunition.

Lieutenant Norman Tagros, of the 8IB, said Cinches and Yorong were not in uniform and unarmed when the insurgents flagged them down on board a motorcycle. The captives had been assigned under the Community Organizing for Peace Development (COPD) in the village.

Tagros said, "They came [from the area where the livelihood program was held]. As far as we know, they never brought their arms which we do not know where the guns came from based on the NPA's statement."

Teacher killed by roadside bomb in Thailand
A female teacher was killed, while her colleague severely wounded when terrorists insurgents set off a home-made bomb as the two were being escorted by police to their school in Pattani's Khok Pho district yesterday. A policeman was also injured in the attack. The teacher's death brought the region's teacher death toll so far to 175.

This attack took place despite tight security, which worries many teachers. They are planning to set up a meeting to discuss security with related agencies.

This recent attack has also prompted local district chief Sanan Pong-aksorn to order adjustments to the teacher protection details. He said the bomb was reportedly meant for security officers in the convoy escorting seven teachers. He explained that the seven-vehicle convoy, comprised two motorcycles, each with two teachers onboard, and one truck with three teachers, while security officers were on the leading motorbike and the tailing truck and two motorcycles. The bomb was detonated to hit the tailing vehicles, he said, but as convoy had slowed down the wrong vehicle got hit.

2nd Minnesota Man Reportedly Killed Fighting For ISIS In Syria
[Fox9News] Sources tell Fox 9 News a second Minnesota family has received word that a man who left the Twin Cities has died fighting with the terror group ISIS in Syria.

At about 9 p.m. on Wednesday, leaders in the Somali-American community heard that State Department officials notified a Minneapolis family that a second American was found among the dead murderous Moslems. According to Fox 9 sources, Abdirahmaan Muhumed -- who was the focus of an MPR story just two months ago -- died in the same battle as Douglas McCain, a former Robbinsdale-Cooper High School student.

According to Abdi Bihi, a leader in the local Somali community, ISIS has recently begun trying to recruit young women from the Twin Cities to their cause as well.

"They are brainwashing them to marry them off to jihadists," he said. "They call them to help out as nurses, help out the maimed -- but the real catch is they will be sexually exploited."

While the jihadists may see fighting as a path to paradise, Bihi said the only thing young people who take that path will face is disappointment, possibly even death.

"What will not change is the pain and agony and suffering of the parents," he lamented.

Filipino Peacekeepers Abducted By Al-Qaeda Linked Rebels
[Ynet] Over 40 Filipino forces reportedly taken captive by Islamist Syrian rebels battling with regime forces on Golan over border crossing.

Syrian holy warriors fighting with the Al-Nusra Fron (Jabhat al-Nusra) have kidnapped over 40 soldiers from the UN Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF) in the Golan Heights. According to report and unnamed officials, those kidnapped include soldiers of Philippine origin.

The news came amid massive fighting near the Quneitra crossing -- the sole connections between Israel and Syria -- which was seized Wednesday by rebels from Syria in some of the heaviest festivities this year, rebels and residents said on Thursday, and rebels have even posted a video showing the Israeli flag from their side of the border. The video claims that the Free Syrian Army
... the more palatable version of the Syrian insurgency, heavily influenced by the Moslem Brüderbund...
Battalions retook the crossing.

Earlier this week, the Philippines announced they would be recalling their 331-strong peacekeeping force after a number of violent incidents. For example, last September some 21 Filipino UN peacekeepers were kidnapped by Syrian rebels, and after a week were handed safely over to Jordan.

The peacekeeping mission, known as UNDOF, was established in May 1974 following intensified firing on the Israel-Syria border after the 1973 Yom Kippur War. Israel captured the Golan Heights from Syria in 1967, and Syria has campaigned for decades for return of the land.

For nearly four decades, the UN monitors helped enforce a stable truce between Israel and Syria. But in recent months, the Golan Heights has increasingly become a battlefield in the more than three-year-old Syrian conflict.

IS Executes 'Dozens' of Captured Syrian Soldiers
[AnNahar] Islamic State fighters have executed "dozens" of Syrian soldiers it captured during its storming of a key northern air base this week, a monitoring group said on Thursday.

The jihadists boasted on Twitter that they had killed 200 defeated troops and posted video of what they said was the garrison in headlong flight.

"Dozens of Syrian soldiers captured while fleeing... after the IS overran Tabqa airbase were executed by the jihadists during the night," said Rami Abdel Rahman, head of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

The jihadists seized the airport on Sunday after weeks of bitter fighting with loyalist forces, cementing their control over Raqa province, capital of their self-declared Islamic "caliphate".

Abdel Rahman said the defeated garrison comprised 1,400 soldiers, 200 of whom were killed and 700 of whom managed to escape.

The other 500 remain on the run. Dozens were captured on Wednesday night as they attempted to cross the desert to government-held territory in the Orontes Valley to the west.

IS posted video footage showing young men in underwear being marched barefoot along a desert road. Militants shouted "Islamic State" and "There's no going back".

In Syria, the group controls all of Raqa province and much of Deir Ezzor further down the Euphrates Valley towards the Iraqi border.

It also controls most of the Sunni Arab heartland of neighbouring Iraq, north and west of Baghdad, including second city djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
It has repeatedly posted often gruesome videos, both as a warning to those joining up to the Syrian army and as a propaganda tool to recruit volunteers from the wider Islamic world.

Army Kills Syrian, Wounds Several after Illegally Crossing to Lebanon
[AnNahar] The army opened fire overnight Thursday at a group of Syrians in a minibus, who were trying to infiltrate the country from the border crossing of Ain Ata in the Bekaa southwest of Rashaya.

According to the National News Agency, armed festivities erupted between the army and a group of Syrians in a minibus as they tried to illegally cross into Leb from Ain Ata.

The minibus, which reportedly contained ten armed Syrians and three Lebanese men, didn't respond to stop warnings, prompting the army to open fire at it.

NNA reported that one Syrian was killed and two others were maimed as the remaining passengers were tossed in the calaboose

The driver of the minibus hails from the town of al-Rafid in the Bekaa valley and was identified by his initials M. A.

The news agency said that the detainees were referred to the army intelligence, adding that the maimed were transferred to Rashaya's public hospital.

[AnNahar] Clashes broke out on Thursday between the army and Islamist gunnies in the northeastern border region of Arsal, media reports said.

It said that an army post came under attack by gunnies from the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant
... the current version of al-Qaeda in Iraq, just as blood-thirsty and well-beloved as the original...
and al-Qaeda-affiliated al-Nusra Front in the al-Rahwa region.

Fierce festivities have ensued, it added, while MTV said rocket-propelled grenades were used in the fighting.

The army has since brought reinforcements to the area, reported LBCI television.

Earlier, the army repelled an attack by jihadists on its base in the Wadi Hmeid area of Arsal, leaving casualties among their ranks, the state-run National News Agency reported.

NNA said the Lions of Islam advanced on the base on Wednesday night and sought to isolate it by advancing towards Arsal, which lies about 90 kilometers from Beirut.

But the troops engaged in heavy gunbattles with the fighters, leaving several of them maimed, the agency said.

It was not clear if the fighters belonged to the Islamic State or al-Nusra Front, whose members fought the army for several days earlier this month.

The army has yet to issue a communique on the details of the fighting.

The Arsal festivities erupted on August 2 when the military tossed in the slammer
Yez got nuttin' on me, coppers! Nuttin'!
an al-Nusra Front official.

It was the most dangerous spillover from Syria and raised fears of the advance of the Islamic State on Leb.

The fighters withdrew from Arsal after a ceasefire was brokered by Moslem scholars. But they took with them hostages from the army and security forces.

Syrian Army Hits Al-Qaeda Affiliated Rebel Positions Near Israeli Border
[Ynet] Rebels from Al-Nusra Front post video showing Israeli side of border crossing, after violent fighting between Syrian rebels and regime fighters over coveted Golan border crossing end in loss for Assad.

Syrian jets shelled rebel positions near the border crossing with Israel close to the Golan Heights.

The Quneitra crossing -- the sole connections between Israel and Syria -- was seized by rebels in some of the heaviest festivities this year, rebels and residents said on Thursday, and rebels have even posted a video showing the Israeli flag from their side of the border. The video claims that the Free Syrian Army
... the more palatable version of the Syrian insurgency, heavily influenced by the Moslem Brüderbund...
Battalions retook the crossing.

Al Qaeda's Syria Al-Nusra Front alongside moderate rebel groups who had launched the attack early on Wednesday on the border post were "holding ground" despite the heavy bombardment, according to a source in the Islamist Beit al Maqdis brigade, whose fighters were involved in the fighting.

Abu Iyas al Horani, a front man for another rebel group operating in the area, said at least six rebels were killed in the latest spillover of violence in the area that lies almost 20 kilometers west of the town of Quneitra, the main urban centre, which is under state control.

The crossing is monitored by the United Nations
...an organization originally established to war on dictatorships which was promptly infiltrated by dictatorships and is now held in thrall to dictatorships...
, which oversees traffic between the two enemy countries, but the distance between the two warring adversaries' posts is some 200 meters (yards).

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said 20 Syrian soldiers and 14 rebel fighters were killed in the festivities. The organization gathers information from all sides in the Syrian war.

A UN spokeswoman earlier said the organization's peacekeepers could not confirm whether the rebels had seized the crossing, "as fighting is ongoing" at one of its gates.

Rebels, who included Al Qaeda inspired murderous Moslems hostile to the Jewish state, last year briefly took the Quneitra border crossing with Israel and now control many villages in the area.

Hundreds of Nusra fighters who fled from the eastern Deir al-Zor province after being driven out by their hardliner rival, the Islamic State, earlier this year have regrouped in southern Syria, boosting a growing rebel presence in that area, activists say.

Earlier this year, Nusra and its allies seized several army bases near the town of Nawa, one of the biggest rebel gains in the south during the three years of Syria's war.

The advances in the south were important not just because they expand rebel control close to the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights and the Jordanian border, but because Assad's power base in Damascus lies just 40 miles (65 km) to the north.

Rebels say a stretched Syrian army fighting on several fronts that has already lost control of large parts of the countryside in southern Syria wants to ensure it does not lose control of the towns of Nawa and Quneitra in the Golan foothills and the city of Deraa, along the border with Jordan.

The southern front's potential as a launch pad for an offensive against the capital means it could ultimately pose the main challenge to Assad.

Rebels have repeatedly launched several offensives aimed at ultimately advancing towards the capital Damascus but they complain lack of sufficient support by Assad's Western and Gulf enemies has prevented them from making real progress.
