18 Dead in Fierce Clashes in Libya's Benghazi
[AnNahar] At least 18 people were killed in fierce festivities Friday between Islamist groups and forces loyal to the army and an ex-general in Libya's second city of Benghazi, hospital sources said.

Benghazi Medical Center said the dead were mostly soldiers and civilians fighting alongside the army in the central district of Al-Majouri.

On Wednesday, forces of retired general Khalifa Haftar
... served in the Libyan army under Muammar Qadaffy, and took part in the coup that brought Qadaffy to power in 1969. He became a prisoner of war in Chad in 1987. While held prisoner, he and his fellow officers formed a group hoping to overthrow Qadaffy. He was released around 1990 in a deal with the United States government and spent nearly two decades in the United States, gaining US citizenship. In 1993, while living in the United States, he was convicted in absentia of crimes against the Jamahiriya and sentenced to death. Haftar held a senior position in the anti-Qadaffy forces in the 2011 Libyan Civil War. In 2014 he was commander of the Libyan Army when the General National Congress (GNC) refused to give up power in accordance with its term of office. Haftar launched a campaign against the GNC and its Islamic fundamentalist allies. His campaign allowed elections to take place to replace the GNC, but then developed into a civil war. Guess you can't win them all...
, backed by army units, launched what he called an operation to "liberate" Benghazi from Islamist militias that control the eastern city.

Sinai Bomb Kills Two Egypt Policemen
[AnNahar] A roadside kaboom killed two Egyptian coppers and maimed nine in the town of El Arish in the restive north of the Sinai Peninsula late Thursday, security officials said.

Sinai-based Death Eaters have killed scores of coppers and soldiers since the military overthrew Islamist president Mohammed Morsi in July last year.

The attacks have spread to the capital and other parts of Egypt, despite a sweeping police crackdown on the myrmidons.

Twin bombs near a mosque in the Nile Delta on Thursday night maimed 11 people, including a policeman, the state MENA news agency reported.

The bombs struck during a Sufi Moslem festival in the city of Tanta, two days after a bomb in central Cairo maimed 12 people.

RPG Attack Kills 2 Policemen In Egypt's Sinai
[Ynet] An attack with a rocket propelled grenade killed two coppers and maimed another in the capital of Egypt's restive North Sinai province, state media reported late on Thursday.

The coppers were in their patrol car in Al-Arish when a rocket propelled grenade struck the vehicle, state media said. There was no immediate claim of responsibility.

Cameroon Soldiers Kill 107 Boko Haram Fighters
[AnNahar] Cameroon
...a long, narrow country that fills the space between Nigeria and Chad on the northeast, CAR to the southeast. Prior to incursions by Boko Haram nothing ever happened there...
said Friday its army killed 107 Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
fighters in ferocious combat this week in its north, in a claimed success against the Nigeria-based Islamist guerrilla group.

The "fighting of rare violence" occurred in two areas in the north on Wednesday and Thursday and also resulted in the deaths of eight soldiers, the defense ministry said in a statement read on state radio.

It was not possible to independently verify the information or the toll.

The ministry said that, late Wednesday, heavily armed Boko Haram members travelling in armored vehicles crossed over the border from Nigeria into the towns of Amchide and Limani, sparking fierce battles with Cameroonian soldiers.

After a pause, fighting resumed on Thursday and the Cameroonian troops pushed the Boko Haram units back across the border, it said.

A tank, a pick-up truck and a Peugeot car packed with ammunition and explosives were destroyed by the soldiers, it said.

"Several light and heavy arms were seized," it said. "Calm has returned and our defense forces are in control of the border areas," it said.

Cameroon shares a border of more than 2,000 kilometers (1,200 miles) with Nigeria, where Boko Haram has been waging a bloody insurgency since 2009 in which 10,000 people have died.

Sunni tribesmen and Houthi fighters clash in Yemen, 15 dead
[REUTERS] At least 15 people were killed in heavy fighting between Sunni Moslem rustics and Shi'ite Houthi
...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The Yemeni government has accused the Houthis of having ties to the Iranian government, which wouldn't suprise most of us. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to Americaâ¢, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews ...
rebels in central Yemen on Friday, increasing fears of outright sectarian warfare.

The Houthi rebels also entered Radaa city, in the central province of al-Bayda, a bastion of the Yemen-based al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula
...the latest incarnation of various Qaeda and Qaeda-allied groups, including the now-defunct Aden-Abyan Islamic Army that boomed the USS Cole in 2000...
(AQAP), local officials and residents said.

The Houthis established themselves as Yemen's new powerbrokers last month, capturing the capital Sanaa on Sept. 21 to little resistance from residents or from the weak administration of President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi.

Their ascendance has angered al Qaeda, which views Shi'ites as heretics and Houthis as pawns of Iran. Last week, AQAP claimed a suicide kaboom on a Houthi gathering that killed at least 47 people.

In Friday's fighting, medical sources said 15 people from both sides were killed on the outskirts and inside the city of Ibb, 150 km (90 miles) south of Sanaa.

"We are hearing the sound of machine-guns and mortars everywhere," a resident told Rooters by telephone.

The city of Ibb borders al-Bayda province.

Al Qaeda said in a statement that its fighters had stormed the town of Odein, near Ibb on Wednesday, killing three soldiers and holding it for nine hours before withdrawing.

Houthi fighters have been making advances outside of Sanaa in recent days, taking over cities and towns with the apparent agreement of the authorities there. At least 10 people were killed on Thursday in fighting between Houthi rustics and al Qaeda-linked myrmidons.

In addition to the rise of AQAP and the Houthi takeover of Sanaa, Yemen, an impoverished country of 25 million people, faces a secessionist movement in the south. The widespread and growing instability has alarmed neighboring Soddy Arabia

Saudi court sentences Shiite cleric, Qaeda militant to death
Saudi Shiite cleric and protest leader Nimr al-Nimr was sentenced to death on Wednesday after a judge found him guilty of "sedition," Agence France-Presse cited his family as saying.

Nimr led demonstrations in 2011 in the oil-flush east of the kingdom, alongside a Shiite-led protest movement in neighboring Bahrain, Al Arabiya reported. The cleric was also convicted of seeking "foreign meddling" in the country, a reference to Iran, his brother Mohammed al-Nimr wrote on Twitter.

Nimr, who is in his 50s, had been on trial since March 2013. He was found guilty of "disobeying" the kingdom's rulers and taking up arms against security forces, his brother said.

Nimr's family accused the court of ignoring the sheik's "peaceful and non-violent approach," saying the case had caused "social and political discontent."

"The ruling... is political par excellence," his relatives in the Eastern Province communities of Awamiya and Qatif said in a statement.

They called for a dialogue with officials, "out of concern for our dear country."
And how they might destroy it if they don't get what they want...
Meanwhile, another court on Wednesday sentenced a suspected al-Qaeda Sunni extremist to death and 21 others to various jail sentences after they were convicted of a range of militant crimes, including setting up training camps and identifying oil locations to hit, state news agency SPA reported.

Riyadh's concern about Islamist militants has increased over the past two years as conflicts in Syria and Iraq have attracted more of its own citizens to travel there to join groups fighting in the name of jihad.

Of the 22 people convicted, the man sentenced to death was a citizen of Chad, SPA said. The rest, which included another Chadian and a someone described as Bengali, were given prison sentences of between five and 28 years.

The group was convicted of embracing militant ideology, the possession of ammunition in their apartment and firing on security services during a raid on their apartment in Mecca, killing one security officer.

Britain
Four men from London appear in court charged with terrorism offences
[DAILYMAIL.CO.UK] A gang of British terror suspects laughed in the dock yesterday as they were charged with plotting to kill coppers and soldiers in London drive-by shootings.

Tarik Hassane, 21, Suhaib Majeed, 20, Nyall Hamlett, 24, and Momen Motasim, 21, appeared amid extraordinary security as they were charged with an Islamic State

-inspired gun plot.

It was alleged to have been formulated in response to a fatwa by a senior IS terrorist who called for followers to kill 'disbelievers' in their home countries.

The gang is accused of swearing allegiance to IS and acquiring a handgun, silencer and ammunition in preparation for a mission to tour London on mopeds looking for targets.

Prosecutor Mark Dawson told Westminster magistrates' court yesterday: 'It is a plot in essence, not fully formulated, to shoot to kill a police officer, coppers or soldiers on the streets of London in accordance with the fatwa that was issued.'

The gang is accused of scouting Shepherd's Bush cop shoppe and White City Territorial Army barracks in a 'hostile reconnaissance' mission using Google Street View.

They were said to have kept Instagram images of two Scotland Yard coppers and two community support officers. The group is also charged with amassing jihadist material, including videos of beheadings.

It is the first alleged terrorist plot in Britannia directly linked to the IS Death Eaters responsible for the murders of British hostages Alan Henning and David Haines.

The young men, some of whom attended Westminster City School in London, were all born in Britannia.

Yesterday, when they appeared in court for the first time charged with intending to commit acts of terrorism, they were surrounded by 14 coppers and security officers, many wearing stab vests.

Three militants killed in Dagestan
Security forces have killed three suspected militants in the Russian republic of Dagestan.

The National Antiterrorist Committee said the deaths happened during a gunbattle in the Caspian Sea port of Derbent. It said several gunmen had fortified themselves in a five-story apartment building and opened fire after security forces demanded their surrender. Law enforcement authorities did not report any casualties among security forces.

Officials said the three men planned a terrorist attack in the region and then planned to travel to Syria to fight as jihadists.

'Syria Recruiter' Charged with Preparing Australia Terror Attack
[AnNahar] A man tossed in the calaboose

in Australian counter-terrorism raids in September is facing fresh charges of preparing a terrorist attack on home soil, police said on Friday.

Agim Kruezi, 22, was initially accused of recruiting, funding and sending jihadist fighters to Syria after he was detained in Brisbane on September 10.

He is now facing a new charge of committing an act in preparation for a terrorist act by transporting a firearm, which carries a maximum sentence of life in jail, authorities said.

Kruezi was also Friday charged with possessing machetes, knives, balaclavas, military fatigues, fuel, corks, and a firearm in connection with preparing for a terrorist act.

"These additional charges are as a result of ongoing investigations into the man's activities including the alleged preparation and recruitment for incursions into Syria to fight," federal police said in a statement.

The additional charges came after Australia last month raised its terror threat level to "high" after years on "medium" on growing concern about jihadists returning from fighting in Iraq and Syria.

The case against Kruezi and Omar Succarieh, 31, who was also arrested in the Queensland operation, were adjourned to December 19 after a hearing in Brisbane Magistrates Court.

Another man -- Louis Maestracci, 32, who was charged with funding jihadists travelling overseas to fight after a separate Brisbane raid in late September -- also had his case adjourned to the same date.

Crown prosecutor Shane Hunter told the court police needed more time to prepare their evidence against the men because they were busy with preparations for the G20 leaders' summit in Brisbane in November.

A week after the Queensland raids, police mounted their largest ever counter-terrorism operation across Sydney and Brisbane, with one person so far charged with serious terrorism-related offences.

In a separate incident, a "known terror suspect" -- 18-year-old Abdul Numan Haider -- was rubbed out by police after stabbing two officers outside their station on the outskirts of Melbourne late last month.

Baghdad Car Bombs Kill 23
[AnNahar] Car bombs went kaboom! in three crowded areas of the Iraqi capital Friday, killing at least 23 people, the latest in a string of deadly blasts in the city, officials said.

One boom-mobile hit Baladiyat in eastern Baghdad, killing at least 13 people, security and medical officials said.

A second struck Adhamiyah in the north, killing at least five, and a third, in the central Karrada district, left at least five more dead.

The bombings also maimed more than 50 people.

The bandidos snuffies have been kept from reaching Baghdad in force and would face major challenges if they tried to occupy part of the city, but they are able to carry out deadly bombings with impunity.

Bombings in and around Baghdad killed at least 26 people Thursday, while a suicide boom-mobile on Tuesday killed 28 people, among them an MP who was also a senior Shiite militia commander.

Iraqi Forces Launch Anti-IS Operation North of Tikrit

jihadist group north of the myrmidon-held city of Tikrit, officials said.

Security forces backed by air support have begun "an operation to liberate areas north of the city of Tikrit," said Ali Mussa, an adviser to the governor of Salaheddin province, where the operation is taking place.

An army lieutenant colonel also confirmed the launch of the operation north of the city, which was seized on June 11 during a sweeping Islamic State-led myrmidon offensive that overran large areas of the country.

The officer said that security forces were moving slowly toward the myrmidon-held Baiji district due to bombs along the way, and were also advancing west of Tikrit.

While the sources were positive about the operation, its scale was not immediately clear, and other efforts to regain ground in Salaheddin province have ended in failure after initial reports of success.

A U.S.-led coalition is carrying out air strikes against IS forces in both Iraq and Syria, where the group also holds significant territory.

But Iraqi troops have struggled to retake and hold ground.

The IS group has pushed back Iraqi government forces in the western province of Anbar in recent weeks, prompting some officials to warn that the entire region could fall to jihadists.

NPA leader nabbed at checkpoint
Philippine security forces captured a New People's Army (NPA) leader Friday afternoon at a checkpoint in Tagum City, Davao Del Norte province.

Military intelligence reports have identified Dominicano D. Muya, who uses the aliases Marco and Atoy, as a former staff member of the NPA's Northeastern Mindanao Regional Committee and present staff member of the Southern Mindanao Regional Party Committee. Muya had also reportedly served the latter committee as secretary of Guerrilla Front 18.

Capt. Alberto C. Caber, information chief of the Eastern Mindanao Command of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), said the suspect is wanted for robbery, homicide, and murder in the provinces of Agusan del Sur and Bukidnon. According to Mr. Caber, Mr. Muya was involved in the June 19, 2004, killing of PO1 Marito Correos and PO1 Rey Ejercito in Bayugan City, Agusan del Sur, and in the June 14, 2009, killing of 2nd Lt. Lucresio Julampong Jr. in Bantawan village in Davao Oriental.

Maj. Gen. Eduardo M. Año, commander of the Army’s 10th Infantry Division, said Muya's capture is another major setback for the NPA. Earlier this year, government forces captured Benito and his wife Wilma Tiamzon in Cebu City, a week before the NPA's 45th anniversary.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Iranian top military commander killed in Syria
Iran's state agency confirmed that a senior Iranian Revolutionary Guard commander, brigadier general Jabbar Darisawi has been killed in Syria.

IRNA reported on Oct.17 that the body of general Darisawi was buried in Ahvaz Province on Thursday, but didn't mention when the top commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) was killed. IRNA reported that the general was killed in an effort "defending the Sayyidah Zaynab Mosque".

Sayyidah Zaynab is the daughter of the first Imam of Shia Muslim people and the Sayyidah Zaynab Mosque is located in the southern suburbs of Damascus, Syria. Iran symbolically calls supporting the Syrian government headed by Bashar Asad as "defending Sayyidah Zaynab Mosque" and this place isn't necessarily the exact place where Darisawi was killed.

Since the protests which changed to internal war in Syria in spring 2011 have started, several reports were published about death of IRGC members in Syria. Iran says it provides military consultant for Bashar Asad regime.

15 Dead in Regime Air Raids Near Damascus
[AnNahar] At least 15 civilians, including three minors, were killed in Syrian regime air raids on a rebel-held town near the capital on Friday, a monitoring group said.

"At least 15 civilians, including three aged under 18, were killed in eight raids by Syrian military planes on several districts of the town of Douma," 13 kilometers (eight miles) northeast of Damascus, said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

On Thursday, regime air strikes killed 20 people, including two children and two women, in Jisrin to the east of Damascus, and two others in nearby Saqba, according to the Observatory.

Closing in on Douma, a town of 200,000 residents, the army has seized control of Mleiha and Adra and has set its sights on Jobar and Ain Tarma, all towns to the east of the capital.

group jihadists are being trained by Saddam Hussein's former pilots to fly three fighter jets captured from the Syrian military, a monitoring group said Friday.

But a front man for the American central command said the U.S. military was "unaware" of flight operations by IS turbans.

The planes, which are believed to be MiG-21 and MiG-23 jets, are capable of flying although it is unclear if they are equipped with missiles, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

The jets were seized from Syrian military airports now under IS control in the northern provinces of Aleppo and Raqa, according to the Britannia-based group, which has a wide network of sources inside the war-torn country.

It said that former Iraqi army officers who once served under Saddam were supervising the training at the military airport of Jarrah, east of the city of Aleppo.

Witnesses have reported seeing planes flying at a low altitude to avoid detection by radar after taking off from Jarrah.

It comes as the United States and its allies carry out a wave of air strikes on IS positions in Syria and Iraq.

The jihadists also control two other airports in Syria -- Albu Kamal near the Iraqi border and Tabqa in Raqa province.

IS has captured large parts of Syria and Iraq, committing atrocities and declaring an Islamic "caliphate".

After the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq in 2003, some Sunni former officers from Saddam's army joined the ranks of the Islamic State of Iraq, a branch of Al-Qaeda which later became IS.

#2  ...There's a lot wrong with this story - it's not absolutely impossible, but:

1) Airplanes are very, very, VERY touchy beasts when they don't get daily maintenance - even if we're talking MiGs, which are notably resilient under conditions of little or improper maintenance. What is more likely is that we're looking at other aircraft, and the locals are ID'ing them as 'MiGs'.

2) They ain't Saddam's MiG drivers. They haven't had a single hour at the stick of a MiG in 11 years, and although flying in and of itself is a 'never forget' skill, flying a reasonably high-performance fighter IS'NT.

3) ISIS fighters are, as a rule, not the sharpest knives in the drawer. They trust in Allah to guide their bullets and hide them from the bombs of the Infidels. It might - MIGHT - be possible to teach them to take off and land, assuming one has functioning high performance trainers...but see paragraph 1.

Conclusion: they're seeing something, but they are unlikely to be seeing combat aircraft.

Soldier Killed In Akkar As Tripoli Suspects Held After Attacks On Army Patrols
[AnNahar] A Lebanese soldier was killed at dawn Friday when assailants opened fire on a bus transporting troops on the Bireh road in the northern Akkar district, the army and the state-run National News Agency said.

The dead soldier was identified as Jamal Jean al-Hashem, who hails from the town of Qobayyat.

Following the attack on the army bus, the military deployed heavily in Akkar and erected checkpoints along the road of Halba and Qobayyat.

The army said in a communique that troops carried out raids in the area in search for the suspects. According to NNA, at least Syrians were tossed in the slammer
Drop the gat, Rocky, or you're a dead 'un!
The shooting angered the residents of Qobayyat, who closed schools and announced a general mourning in the town. They also blocked several roads.

The army said in another communique that also at dawn Friday gunnies opened fire on two military patrols in the area of al-Bissar in the northern city of Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
A hand grenade was also tossed at a military post, it said.

The attacks did not cause any casualties but the army responded to the sources of fire, the communique added.

The assaults on Friday came hours after the army defused a homemade bomb in Tripoli, said NNA.

Voice of Leb radio (100.5) said the 200-gram bomb was found in Tripoli's Abi Samra district.

Later on Friday, the army carried out raids in Tripoli's al-Mankoubin area, arresting several runaways, including Rami al-Gharib and Bilal al-Mir, according to NNA.

A number of women hurled stones at the army during the raids, the agency added.

For the past few months, the military has been coming under increasing armed attacks mainly in northern Leb.

One Person Injured In Shootout With Army In Al-Beddawi
[AnNahar] One person was injured on Thursday in a shootout during an army raid to arrest a suspect for killing an army soldier in al-Beddawi in Tripoli.

The army said in an official statement on Thursday night that two men âriding a motorcycle fired at a position for the army in al-Akoumi area, and the army members fired back.â

"One of the attackers, Mahmoud al-Manaa, was injured during the fire exchange and was transported to a near by hospital,â the statement added.

The other man was able to escape to an unknown place, where he is chased by the army in order to arrest him.

The statement also explained that the shootout started after âa patrol by the Directorate of Intelligence arrested Bahjat Metlej, for being involved in shooting at army positions, including the shooting of soldier Mohammed Hussein on September 23 in al-Badawi, which led to his death.â

The army also seized four hand grenades.

in Syria are training members of the group to fly in three captured fighter jets, a group monitoring the war said on Friday, saying it was the first time the murderous Moslem group had taken to the air.

The group, which has seized swathes of land in Syria and Iraq, has been flying the planes over the captured al-Jarrah military airport east of Aleppo, said Rami Abdulrahman, who runs the Britannia-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

Rooters was not immediately able to verify the report and U.S. Central Command said it was not aware of Islamic State flying jets in Syria.

U.S-led forces are bombing Islamic State bases in Syria and Iraq. The group has regularly used weaponry captured from the Syrian and Iraqi armies and has overrun several military bases but, if the report is confirmed, this would be the first time it has been able to pilot warplanes.

#2  Yeah, what Grunter said. Plus, flying is one thing, killing stuff from the air quite another. Unless you are going to use the planes simply as high-speed car bombs.

forces of Evil single-handedly.

Rehana became famous in Kurdish Twitter circles after a photo of her giving a peace sign began to circulate on the social network.

According to the International Business Times, Rehana is a YPJ (Kurdish female Peshmerga) soldier under the command of famed female soldier Mayssa Abdo, who herself has become famous for running the operation to keep the Syrian border town of Kobani out of the hands of the Islamic State. Shortly after this photo of Rehana began to circulate, rumors followed that she had been killed in battle, none of which have been confirmed independently by news sources.

Government
Mooslim GITMO guests butthurt over COED guards.
[Miami Herald] The military now has female soldiers escorting former CIA captives around Guantánamo’s high-value prison, an apparent personnel change that defense lawyers say is causing an uproar over religious insensitivity.

When one captive — who had just finished meeting with his attorney — refused to be touched by a female soldier, the military called in a special unit to move him using the detention center’s tackle-and-shackle technique, a Forced Cell Extraction. Since that incident, at least four of the 9/11 defendants have boycotted legal meetings over the issue, according to the attorneys.

The prison would not confirm the tension at Guantánamo’s most secretive detention facility, called Camp 7. But Navy Capt. Tom Gresback, a spokesman, said the U.S. military has a policy of being gender neutral in its relations with detainees.

The prison has “no intention in modifying its assignment of job responsibilities to members of the guard force based on gender,” Gresback said Wednesday.
Good luck Skipper, I hope you can hold the line on this one. My sense is however, you'll be reassigned or retired within a week or two.
