1st American soldier killed in Iraq since war on ISIS says Pentagon
[Iraq News] On Saturday, U.S. Pentagon announced the first death of an American solider in Iraq in the U.S. military campaign against the ISIS krazed killer group.

Lance Corporal Sean P. Neal served as a Marine soldier. Neal was 19 years old from Riverside, Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party, and was killed in Baghdad last Thursday during what the Pentagon described as a noncombat-related incident.

He was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, Special Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Force -- Crisis Response -- Central Command, whose headquarters element deploys from Camp Pendleton, Calif., according to the DOD news release.

The Pentagon had announced earlier in October that Cpl. Jordan L. Spears, 21, is the first American marine to die in the war on ISIS. The soldier had died after jumping from a military plane in the waters of the Gulf.

Afghanistan
Camp Leatherneck & Camp Bastion handed over to Afghan control
(Reuters) - British troops ended their combat operations in Afghanistan on Sunday as they and U.S. Marines handed over two huge adjacent bases to the Afghan military, 13 years after a U.S.-led invasion launched the long and costly war against the Taliban.

Their departure leaves Afghanistan and its newly installed president, Ashraf Ghani, to deal almost unaided with an emboldened Taliban insurgency after the last foreign combat troops withdraw by year-end.

At the U.S. Camp Leatherneck and Britain's Camp Bastion, which lie next to each other in the southwestern province of Helmand, troops lowered the American and British flags for the final time on Sunday and folded them away.

The timing of their withdrawal had not been announced for security reasons.

WaPo's subheadline "The handover from Marines and British troops is a dramatic signal that the 13-year war is near its end." But what about the Afghan war of all against all?

The Grand Turk
Kurdish militants kill three soldiers in southeast Turkey
Kurdish militants killed three Turkish soldiers in Turkey’s southeast on Saturday, the Turkish Armed Forces said, in a further blow to peace talks between Ankara and the insurgents.
That's not going to induce the Turks to help the Kurds in Syria...
The Turks are already not helping the Kurds in Syria, or so it appears.
Three members of the "separatist terrorist organisation", a term used by the army to describe the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK), shot the soldiers who were in plain clothes, the army said in a statement. The soldiers were buying electrical supplies for the military post where they served, media said.

On Friday, soldiers shot dead three PKK guerrillas after fighters from the outlawed group set fire to two vehicles and a power plant in the eastern province of Kars and shot at soldiers who returned fire.

Dozens were killed in eastern Turkey this month after riots by Kurds over what they saw as the government's refusal to help Syrian Kurds fighting ISIS in the besieged town of Kobani on Turkey's southern border.

Turkish planes bombed PKK targets in the southeast in mid-October in response to attacks on a military post near the Iraqi border, the Turkish army said, the first major air operation against the PKK since the launch of peace talks.

Ottawa attack: MPs fashioned spears from flagpoles
h/t Instapundit
Duplicate from the other day but it's a great story. AoS.
Stephen Harper spent about 15 minutes hidden in a Parliament Hill closet after a gunman stormed Centre Block where he and the rest of the Conservative caucus were guarded by MPs who’d fashioned sharp spears from flagpoles, sources say.

After they heard gunfire outside their meeting room door Wednesday, members of Parliament snapped close to 15 flagpoles to make weapons.

Kurdish forces regained control of strategic town in Northern Iraq
Kurdish armed forces have retaken control of town Zumar in northern Iraq and pushed Islamic State (IS) militants out of several nearby villages, RIA Novosti reported referring to a Kurdish security official.

A source in the Kurdish intelligence told that Islamic State fighters had put up a fight as they were evicted by local Kurdish forces, who made considerable gains on Saturday morning. Zumar lies 60 kilometers (36 miles) northwest of Mosul, a city which is a key to Iraq's oil and gas production.

It was reported earlier that US Air Force and its allies from the 60-member anti-IS coalition carried out new airstrikes against jihadist positions in Syria and Iraq.

Iraqi security forces retake most of town near Baghdad from IS
Iraqi security forces have retaken most of the town of Jurf al-Sakhar near Baghdad from Islamic State militants, the biggest gains in months of fighting for the strategic area, Dailystar reported referring to senior local officials. Full control of the town could allow Iraqi authorities to prevent the insurgents from edging closer to the capital and maintaining connections to their strongholds in western Anbar province as well as infiltrating the south.

"We have managed to push out Islamic State terrorists from the town of Jurf al-Sakhar today and now we are raising the Iraqi flag over the government offices," provincial governor Sadiq Madloul told.

Some Islamic State fighters had fled towards the western city of Falluja, which is held by the group, while fighting still raged near a bridge linking Jurf al-Sakhar to Anbar, said a commander and spokesman for Iraqi security forces.

"There has been a significant collapse among Islamic State fighters. Attacks by Iraqi army helicopters have not stopped since yesterday," said Raad Hamza, head of the Hilla Provincial Council.

Speaking by telephone, Hamza said he was in the town with Iraqi security forces.

#1  After victory comes revenge
A Reuters witness saw the fighters in green camouflage uniforms scream and swear at members of the Islamist group as they kicked and struck them with rifle butts in Jurf al-Sakhar.

As the angry crowd of militiamen around the unarmed militants swelled, shots rang out. The three men lay soaked in blood in the dirt with gunshot wounds to the head.

"Those dogs are Chechens. They don't deserve to stay alive. We took confessions from them and we don't need them anymore," said one of the Shi'ite militiamen.
...
Asked why the three men were executed, an army officer in Jurf al-Sakhar said: "We don't need them anymore. Why should we keep them alive?"

Responding to the same question, a senior member of a local Shi'ite militia said: "When we liberated Jurf al-Sakhar we found the skeletons of innocent people they killed and never buried. They should face the same fate."
...
Asked why government forces had not buried the bodies of men who were killed a day before, an Iraqi army colonel said: "Those terrorists do not deserve to be buried. Let the dogs eat their flesh. Many of our men were killed by them."

But then came a reminder of the determination of Islamic State militants to expand their reach to Baghdad in pursuit of a powerful caliphate.

As Iraqi government soldiers and militias savored their victory and were taking photographs of the bodies, mortars fired by Islamic State fighters who had fled to orchards to the west rained down on the town.

The blast hit the militiamen, killing dozens and scattering body parts. Soldiers who moments before were celebrating now screamed out in fear.

"Run to the ditch. Mortars. Mortars," yelled a militiaman. An army officer shouted at local militia leaders, berating them for advancing too fast, before helicopters had wiped out any pockets of resistance.

"OK, let's retreat," one of the militiamen shouted.

Jerusalem Violence Isn't New Intifada, Says Senior Cop
[IsraelTimes] A senior Israel Police officer downplayed the severity of ongoing unrest in Jerusalem, saying that the violence is not the beginning of a third Paleostinian uprising.

"There is no intifada here," said Police Major General Aharon Eksol in an NRG interview published Saturday. "There is primarily a weakening sense of security as the result of a few riots and small incidents in different places, that demand a police response in a few locations throughout the capital. The more complicated story is the struggle against terror. We are working extensively with the Shin Bet and IDF in order to foil more than a few terror attacks. But one must remember that it is very hard to stop someone who wakes up in the morning and decides to take his car or his tractor and go run people over and kill."

Eksol, operations officer for Israel Police, said that Police Commissioner Yohanan Danino met with Attorney General Yehuda Weinstein in an attempt to convince the justice system to take a harder line with rioters.

Clashes in Lebanon's Tripoli kill six soldiers
[Iran Press TV] At least six Lebanese troops have been killed in festivities between the army and faceless myrmidons in the country's second largest city of Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...

The army said in a statement that the soldiers were killed in the northern city's historic market during encounters with the faceless myrmidons on Saturday.

Five soldiers were killed in festivities with the faceless myrmidons in Tripoli and an area north of it. A Lebanese soldier also died of wounds he sustained during festivities on Friday

The statement added that the military jugged

some of the gunnies and seized their weapons and ammunition. Several faceless myrmidons were killed and maimed in the fighting.

The skirmishes came two days after troops raided the northern Dinniyeh region, slaying three faceless myrmidons and detaining a local leader.

One of the dead was a Lebanese soldier, identified as Abdul-Qadir Akkoumi, who said earlier this month that he had defected and joined the ISIL terror group.

Separately, an officer was killed and two others injured when faceless myrmidons fired a rocket propelled grenade at an army vehicle in the nearby town of Minye, while government forces also clashed with gunnies in the town of Mhamra, where two soldiers bit the dust.

Tensions have soared in Leb since August when the army fought deadly festivities with the al-Qaeda-affiliate al-Nusra

ISIL, Kurds continue fierce fighting in Syria's Kobani
[Iran Press TV] Fierce festivities have resumed between ISIL Takfiri
...an adherent of takfir wal hijra, an offshoot of Salafism that regards everybody who doesn't agree with them as apostates who must be killed...
holy warriors and Kurdish fighters in Syria's northern town of Kobani, which has been under siege by ISIL for over a month.

Reports coming out of the town on Saturday said ISIL had made a new attempt to capture Kobani.

The holy warriors attacked the Kurdish forces with mortar and heavy machinegun fire before dawn.

This came after Kurdish fighters had gained control of a strategic hill overlooking the town on Friday.

Meanwhile,
...back at the shouting match, the spittle had reached unprecedented levels...
Iraq's semi-autonomous Kurdistan Region has decided to send reinforcement troops to Kobani next week to aid Kurds.

Kobani and its surroundings have been under attack since mid-September, with the ISIL holy warriors capturing dozens of nearby Kurdish villages.

The ISIL advance in the region has forced tens of thousands of Syrian Kurds to flee into Turkey, which is a stone's throw from Kobani.

Turkey continues to block any delivery of military, medical or humanitarian assistance into Kobani where the ISIL Death Eaters are feared to be aiming at massive bloodletting.

Analysts say Ankara, having already won the US green light, plans to let the Death Eaters seize the Kurdish town of Kobani before sending tanks and troops to fight them in a bid to capture and possibly annex the Syrian territory.

#1  British SAS and US Delta Force have been on the ground around Kobane for 2 weeks.

A team of British special forces were dispatched to the Turkish- Syrian border to help brave Kurdish fighters battle against Islamic State (IS) gunmen.

The British troops called in several air strikes, killing dozens of IS fighters and halting their advance towards Kobane, just inside the Syrian border.

In one attack, SAS guided warplanes into an area where IS fi ghters were massing for an attack The US jets dropped several 500lb bombs into the area, killing and injuring dozens of fighters.

In another strike the SAS pinpointed the location of a large convoy of tanks, armoured personnel carriers and ammo trucks heading towards the area. An SAS team hiding in the surrounding hills directed two US combat planes into the area.

The pilots then swooped on the convoy, destroying the vehicles with missiles and bombs. One source last night said: “The SAS deployed to the area around Kobane a couple of weeks ago and have done themselves proud.

“They have done this at no small risk to themselves. If their positions had been identified by IS they would have been lucky to escape with their lives. “The conditions for the British soldiers have been very testing."

“Their role in the battle for Kobane probably saved hundreds of lives”

“It’s been extremely hot, they were living on meagre rations and had to be sparing with water.

Sources added that US Delta Force troops and the SAS were able to cut off fl anking assaults by IS militants trying to encircle the town.

#7  I doubt "Delta Force" [Tier One SOF] is being used in Kobani. More likely Tier Two and some specialized communicators. Just my guess.
