Egypt Sentences Four Brotherhood Members to Death
[AnNahar] An Egyptian court on Sunday sentenced to death four members of the blacklisted Moslem Brüderbund over the killing of protesters who stormed the group's Cairo headquarters in June last year.

A crowd of angry protesters stormed and torched the headquarters on June 30, 2013, as millions erupted into the streets in Cairo and other cities demanding Islamist President Mohammed Morsi's resignation.

Morsi, who belongs to the Moslem Brüderbund, was ousted just days later by then army chief and now President Abdel Fattah al-Sissi after one year in office.

A Cairo court sentenced the four men to death after finding them guilty of "killing, inciting to kill, possessing guns and live ammunition and joining gangs to terrorize people," a judicial official said.

Prosecutors said 12 protesters were killed when they clashed with Morsi supporters during the storming of the offices. More than 90 protesters were maimed.

Sunday's sentences are preliminary and will be forwarded to the country's mufti, or top Moslem holy man, to be ratified.

Decisions on 14 other defendants in the case, including Moslem Brüderbund chief Mohammed Badie and his deputies Khairat al-Shater and Saad al-Katatni, will be made at the next hearing on February 28, the official said.

All the defendants were present in court on Sunday.

Badie and his two deputies along with Morsi are facing several other trials. Badie has already been sentenced to death in one case and to life in prison in three others.

#1  My first thought was that this would be a disincentive to Ferguson rioters as well but then again this means of dealing with dissent could be used to get rid of political enemies. One doesn't want to give too much power to a statist government.

Our Constitution does has built into it a provision for free speech. Our 2nd Amendment also provides a counter to a tyrannical government. Our revolutionary forebearers implemented this option at great risk to themselves. There is always the question of when to exercise this option. I've never been certain of the trigger point for acting on the 2nd Amendment. Such an option would be messy. This is a bit off-topic.

New Massacre Leaves 14 Dead in Eastern DR Congo
[AnNahar] Suspected Ugandan rebels in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo
...formerly the Congo Free State, Belgian Congo, Zaire, and who knows what else, not to be confused with the Brazzaville Congo aka Republic of Congo, which is much smaller and much more (for Africa) stable. DRC gave the world Patrice Lumumba and Joseph Mobutu, followed by years of tedious civil war. Its principle industry seems to be the production of corpses. With a population of about 74 million it has lots of raw material...
have killed 14 people with machetes and axes, authorities said Sunday, despite efforts by the army and U.N. peacekeepers to stop such massacres.

The overnight attack in the area of Beni in Oicha village in North Kivu province was confirmed by a military front man and a local official.

More than 200 people have been killed since October in a series of massacres in Beni and the surrounding area blamed on the Allied Democratic Forces and National Army for the Liberation of Uganda (ADF-NALU).

The rebels have been terrorizing the east of the DR Congo, which borders Uganda, for the last two decades.

Town chief Jean-Baptiste Kamabu, reached by telephone from the North Kivu capital Goma, said the assailants wielded machetes and axes.

He said two people were maimed and another two were kidnapped.

Celestin Ngeleka, front man of a military operation against gangs in the region, confirmed the corpse count of 14, which he said could rise.

Soldiers are still searching the area and could "find other cadavers", he said.

Recent attacks in the area have followed a similar pattern, the assailants arriving at night armed with machetes and brutally massacring residents, including women and kiddies.

An NGO based in Beni, Civil Society of North Kivu, claimed the corpse count from the overnight attack was 32 and called on the Congolese army and U.N. peacekeepers to restore order to the region.

It said in a statement it was "extremely shocked by yet another massacre."

Residents have repeatedly denounced what they see as passivity from DR Congo troops and U.N. peacekeepers in the face of the massacres.

Beni is an important commercial center and a stronghold of the Nande community, whose leaders rallied behind a militia supported by Uganda during the second Congo war from 1998 to 2003.

The latest attack comes after Martin Kobler, head of the U.N. peacekeeping mission in the country, known as MONUSCO, said last week "we could reduce our presence" in the country next year if the government's authority was restored.

Already a delegation from U.N. headquarters in New York "has come to see how MONUSCO could reduce its forces, because the security situation in many places is getting better," Kobler said in an online chat session.

MONUSCO is one of the biggest peacekeeping missions in the world.

A Congolese army operation launched in January allowed the military to retake rebel strongholds in the region, but the operation was halted after the death of its commander in August. It was restarted in late November.

The ADF-NALU rebels, who oppose Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni, have been present in eastern DR Congo for nearly two decades.

Believed to number around 400, they have hidden in the Ruwenzori mountains that straddle the border with Uganda since being driven out of their homeland by Museveni's soldiers in 1995.

Arabia
135 Arrested For ‘Terrorism’ In Saudi Arabia
[IsraelTimes] Saudi Arabia said Sunday it has arrested 135 suspects for “terrorism” offenses, after the kingdom’s participation in Arclight airstrikes against Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group Death Eaters raised concerns about possible retaliation.

The suspects include 26 foreign nationals, among them “16 Syrians and three Yemenis,” interior ministry front man General Mansour al-Turki said, cited by the official Saudi Press Agency.

The detainees belong to “suspect groups… that terrorism united,” and their arrests followed “repeated attempts to harm the security and stability of the homeland,” Turki said, without specifying when they were detained.

Forty of the suspects had gone to “zones of conflict, joined krazed killer groups and trained in the handling of weapons… before returning to the kingdom to destabilize the country,” continued Turki.

He added that 54 others were implicated in the “financing, recruitment, propaganda and manufacture of explosives… in aid of krazed killer groups.”

Seventeen suspects were linked to unrest and armed attacks on security forces in Awamiya, a community in Eastern Province just west of Dammam city.

Awamiya has been a focus for festivities between security forces and minority Shiite protesters.

Turki said the detained foreign suspects included an Egyptian, a Lebanese, an Afghan, an Æthiopian, a Bahraini and a stateless person.

The arrests come as Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Jordan and Bahrain take part in US-led Arclight airstrikes against the IS krazed killer group in Syria.

Saudi pilots who took part in the initial air raids in September received online death threats after photos were published of those involved, among them a son of the crown prince.

‘Enemy number one’
The kingdom’s Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdul Aziz al-Sheikh has said al-Qaeda and IS “have nothing to do with Islam and [their proponents] are the enemy number one of Islam.”

Last week an IS-linked media group released a video claiming to show the shooting in Riyadh of a Danish national by its “supporters,” the US-based monitoring group SITE said.

Denmark has confirmed that one of its citizens was shot and maimed in the Saudi capital on November 22.

The video carries an audio recording, allegedly of IS leader His Supreme Immensity, Caliph of the Faithful and Galactic Overlord, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi
...formerly merely the head of ISIL and a veteran of the Bagram jailhouse. Looks like a new messiah to bajillions of Moslems, like just another dead-eyed mass murder to the rest of us...
saying that Saudi rulers will see “no more security or rest.”

A week after the Dane was shot, someone stabbed and maimed a Canadian while he shopped at a mall in Dhahran on Saudi Arabia’s Gulf coast.

Police arrested a Saudi suspect.

A source familiar with the situation told AFP last week that they were “still trying to figure out what the motive is,” but many people were wondering if the attacks signaled a trend.

In October, a Saudi-American former employee of a US defense contractor rubbed out an American colleague and maimed another in Riyadh.

The suspect had recently been fired, officials said.

That was the first deadly strike against Westerners in Saudi Arabia since several were killed in a wave of al-Qaeda violence between 2003 and 2007.

Both Canada and Denmark are among the Western states taking part in an aerial campaign against IS in Iraq.

In November, Saudi Arabia blamed IS-linked suspects for the killing of seven Shiites, including children, in Eastern Province.

Security forces in the Sunni-dominated kingdom arrested 73 Saudis and four foreigners in connection with the attack, the interior ministry has said, adding that the head of the criminal network behind the murders “had links with Daesh,” the Arabic name for IS.

The ministry added that security forces seized documents and electronic equipment that “revealed contact between this terrorist organization and [IS] abroad.”

Caucasus/Russia/Central Asia
Was the Grozny attack a trial run?
Two days after clashes in Grozny between Chechen security personnel and Chechen insurgents under commander Khamzat (Aslan Byutukayev), the militant leadership still has not formally claimed responsibility for the attack or revealed its objective.

Just hours after the battles began early on December 4, a two-minute video clip was posted on YouTube in which a man claiming to be one of the fighters at large in Grozny identified them as having pledged loyalty to Ali Abu-Muhammad, the Avar theologian chosen to succeed Doku Umarov as Caucasus Emirate leader.

Speaking in Chechen, the man said "many" fighters had entered Grozny on orders from Amir Khamzat, and had killed "many" of the enemy, destroyed vehicles, and seized more weaponry than they could carry away. But he also said it was a suicide mission and that "we shall fight to the death."

Chechen parliament speaker Dukvakha Abdurakhmanov dismissed that video and other footage filmed by Grozny residents as fakes "filmed far from Grozny and long before today."

Great White North
Ottawan fighting for IS urges lone-wolf attacks in Canada
[CBC News] Islamic State has released a video that shows an Ottawa man calling on his fellow Muslims to carry out lone-wolf attacks on Canadian targets.

John Maguire, who was already reportedly under investigation by the RCMP after travelling to Syria to join IS in January 2013, appears in the video. He is identified in the video as Abu Anwar al-Canadi and speaks in English.

Standing amid ruins, Maguire warns Canadians that the country's participation in the coalition fighting the IS will lead to revenge attacks. He urges Muslim Canadians to follow the example of Martin Couture-Rouleau, who a warrant officer and wounded another soldier when he ran them down with a car in Quebec in October. The video also references October's attack at the National War Memorial and Parliament Hill in Ottawa.

In previous online statements, Abu Anwar has said he is going to have the "reward of jihad" and "the opportunity for martyrdom." He also calls Canada "evil."

Public Safety Minister Steven Blaney said in a statement on Sunday that Canadians must remain vigilant. He said, "That is why we are taking part in the coalition that is currently conducting air strikes against ISIL, and supporting the security forces in Iraq in their fight against this terrorist scourge. It is also the reason that we are working very determinedly to strengthen the tools available to the police and intelligence community to better protect us."

Earlier this year, Canadian intelligence officials estimated that 130 other Canadians have joined the conflicts in either Syria or Iraq. Many, but not all, are joining IS.

Some, such as former Canadian Forces corporal Dillon Hillier, have gone to the area to take up arms against IS militants. Hillier has been fighting alongside Kurdish forces in northern Iraq since late November, with support from the 1st North American Expeditionary Force, a private organization that helps people who want to volunteer to fight IS.

Blaney has advised Canadian citizens to "avoid engaging in a combat activity abroad."

ASWJ activist killed in 'sectarian' attack
[Dawn] KARACHI: An activist of the Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat
...which is the false nose and plastic mustache of the murderous banned extremist group Sipah-e-Sahaba Pakistain, whatcha might call the political wing of Lashkar-e-Jhangvi...
(ASWJ) was rubbed out while another critically maimed in a gun attack said to be carried out on sectarian grounds near Sakhi Hasan on Sunday evening, Taimuria police and party officials said.

They added that the ASWJ activists were returning from their party workers convention held at Nagan Chowrangi on a cycle of violence and when they reached the Haroon Shopping Centre near Sakhi Hasan, armed motorcyclists opened fire on them and escaped.

As a result, 35-year-old Qari Saeed Ahmed and 30-year-old Qari Mohammed Sadiq sustained critical wounds and were taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where doctors pronounced Qari Saeed dead on arrival.

The victim sustained two bullet wounds in the chest while Mr Sadiq received a single bullet on his face and his condition was stated to be critical.

"It appeared to be an act of assassination carried out on sectarian grounds," Gulberg SP Chaudhry Asad Ali said.

The officer added that a spent bullet fired from the 0.9mm pistol was found on the scene of the crime.

The dear departed, a resident of Khawaja Ajmir Nagri, was a seminary teacher in the same area, said an ASWJ spokesperson.

Killing in Jam Goth

An 18-year-old man was rubbed out in Memon Goth on Sunday morning, police said.

They added that Umair Nabi Bux was attacked and killed by gunnies in Jam Goth near a football ground.

The dear departed allegedly had a criminal record and might have been killed by gangsters over some dispute, said Memon Goth SHO Jan Mohammed.

He added that the dear departed was living with his maternal uncle in Shanti Nagar, Gulshan-e-Iqbal and had gone to Jam Goth to meet his relatives when the incident occurred.

Sources said missiles were fired in Kher Tangi area. A vehicle was also destroyed in the attack that occurred at around 6am.

Names and nationalities of the dead and the maimed could not be ascertained.

Agencies add: Some officials claimed that a senior member of Al Qaeda was among the dead. They identified him as Omar Farooq and said he operated in Afghanistan and Pakistain.

The Taliban sources said that Farooq, 38, belonged to Bloody Karachi

Farooq was close to Al Qaeda leaders the late Osama bin Laden
... who is now sometimes referred to as Mister Bones...
and Ayman al Zawahiri
... Formerly second in command of al-Qaeda, now the head cheese, occasionally described as the real brains of the outfit. Formerly the Mister Big of Egyptian Islamic Jihad. , who leads his own faction in the area.

"There is [suspicion] that an important `commander' was within the compound when missiles struck but this is yet to be verified," one intelligence official said on condition of anonymity.

The drone attack came a day after Pak troops killed a major Al Qaeda leader, Adnan el Shukrijumah.

Key commanders of Gul Bahadur group killed in Datakhe strikes: reports
[Dawn] Conflicting reports suggest that air strikes conducted in Datakhel tehsil of North Wazoo Agency have killed key commanders of the Hafiz Gul Bahadur
...a member of the Madda Khel clan of the Uthmanzai Waziris. Educated in a Deobandi madrassa located in Multan, he is affiliated with the Jamaat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) political party. Upon the formation of the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) in December 2007, he was announced as the group's overall naib amir under Baitullah Mehsud, who was based in South Wazoo, but has largely distanced himself from the TTP due to rivalries with the Mehsuds and disagreements about the TTP's attacks against the Pak state..
group.

The dead are reported to include Gul Bahadur, Sadiq Noor and Akhtar Muhammad along with 30 other forces of Evil of the group.

Some sources are saying that at least seven key commanders of the Hafiz Gul Bahadur group have died in the strikes.

Pak F16 jet fighters targeted the forces of Evil compound and a vehicle in Seen Tanga area of Datakhel tehsil of the agency.

Military sources say that the strikes have been carried out against the forces of Evil in the area but their identity and the causality figure is yet to be confirmed.

Hafiz Gul Bahadur is commander of the Shura Mujahideen in North Waziristan. He had signed a peace deal with the Mighty Pak Army in 2006, which had been renewed in 2008.

Bahadur however withdrew from the agreement citing the military operation in North Waziristan as a violation of the peace treaty.

Bahadur is also reportedly associated with the Haqqani group while leading his own group of the Taliban in NWA distinct from the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistain (TTP).

U.S. Drone Strike Kills Four in NW Pakistan
[AnNahar] A U.S. drone strike killed at least four murderous Moslems and maimed two others in Pakistain's restive tribal region near the Afghan border on Sunday, security officials said.

The strike took place in the Khar Tangi area of Datta Khel district in the North Wazoo tribal region, where the Pak military has since June been battling murderous Moslems linked to the Taliban and Al-Qaeda.

"The drone fired two missiles targeting a compound, killing four snuffies and wounding two others," a security bigshot told AFP on condition of anonymity.

He added the compound belonged to loyalists of hard boy commander Hafiz Gul Bahadur
...a member of the Madda Khel clan of the Uthmanzai Waziris. Educated in a Deobandi madrassa located in Multan, he is affiliated with the Jamaat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) political party. Upon the formation of the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) in December 2007, he was announced as the group's overall naib amir under Baitullah Mehsud, who was based in South Wazoo, but has largely distanced himself from the TTP due to rivalries with the Mehsuds and disagreements about the TTP's attacks against the Pak state..
, who leads his own faction in the region.

Another official who confirmed the strike said the identities of those killed in the strike were not known.

North Waziristan is one of the seven semi-autonomous tribal districts that border Afghanistan. It has been a hub for Al-Qaeda and Talibs since the early 2000s.

The area is generally off-limits to journalists, making it difficult to independently verify the number and identity of the dead.

Washington pressed Islamabad for years to wipe out sanctuaries in North Waziristan, which murderous Moslems have used to launch attacks on NATO

forces in Afghanistan.

The Pak military launched a major offensive in the district in June and says it has killed more than 1,560 murderous Moslems so far, with 125 soldiers losing their lives.

A soldier was killed and another maimed when their vehicle was hit by a roadside kaboom near Datta Khel district on Sunday, a local security official said.

Some Anbar tribes threaten to halt fight against ISIS if not armed
[al-Arabiya] Some tribes in the western province of Anbar threatened on Sunday to halt their fight against the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) unless the government in Baghdad gives them more arms, Al Arabiya News Channel reported.

Tribal leader Shalaan al-Namrawi said: "Meetings between sheikhs from Anbar and Iraqi security leaders in Ain al-Assad and Ramadi military bases were futile when it came to our demand to for arms."

He added: "We are facing a big dilemma, and will be massacred if the government continued to be like this."

He said tribal fighters who had joined security forces also considering to suspend their fight against ISIS or even seek support from another party, he said.

Namrawi said Anbar tribes were left out as the Kurds were being supplied with arms from Europe and the United States and while Shiite volunteers were receiving weapons from the central government in Baghdad as well as training from Iran.

Hameed al-Hayis, one of the prominent figures in Anbar and former al-Sahwa Awakening, a force formed to fight al-Qaeda in 2005 but nonexistent now, said tribal envoys will visit Iran with the government's support to discuss the issue.

Politicians in Anbar have always criticized the Shiite-dominated government of being influenced by Iran.

Also, an advisor for the Iraqi parliament for national reconciliation, Wahda al-Jumaili urged the formation of Sunni forces capable to rebel jihadists with international guarantees.

France launchs massive air raid on ISIS targets in Iraq
On Friday, the French Defense Minister Jean-Yves Odrian announced that a "massive" air raid was launched on targets of the ISIS organization in Iraq, pointing out that French aircrafts have carried out about 120-130 intelligence and shelling operations against the terrorist group since the beginning of the international coalition’s strikes, confirming that the latter ceased the expansion of ISIS in Iraq.

Odrian said in a statement followed by IraqiNews.com, "A massive air raid took place today in Iraq," pointing out that, "The French aircrafts have carried out from 120 to 130 intelligence operations and bombardments against the terrorist organization ISIS since the beginning of the strikes of the international alliance."
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means...
Ordian added, "We are completely determined to prevent the terrorist organization from occupying Iraq," and added, "Thanks to the work of the international coalition, we stopped the expansion of ISIS, but it does not mean the war is over."

He continued, "The coalition will provide air support until Iraqi forces can gradually regain its territories."

Seven Israeli Arab Teens Charged With Launching IEDs At Israeli Police
[Ynet] Cleared for publication: Haifa District Court indicted the teens for making, throwing IEDs at police during riots that broke out last month after the death of Kheir Hamdan in Kafr Kanna.

The Haifa District Court on Sunday indicted seven Israeli Arab teenagers for throwing IEDs at a police car near the town of Fureidis last month.

On Sunday afternoon, it was released for publication that the seven Arab teens, who had thrown the IED during riots in the Arab sector last month, were tossed in the calaboose
You have the right to remain silent...

According to the indictment, the charges filed against the suspects were not of a nationalistic motive.

The IEDs were thrown at police by the seven Arab teens during riots that broke after 22-year-old Kheir Hamdan was shot and killed by Israeli police in Kafr Kanna in the Galilee.

Israeli police said Hamdan had threatened the life of coppers as he tried to stab them with a knife while they were inside their cruiser. However,
the way to a man's heart remains through his stomach...
video footage of the incident led some people to interpret the events differently, and claimed Hamdan had tried to run away from the vehicle when he was shot.

The indictment filed against the teens revealed that the main suspect had made seven bombs that were inteded to explode during protests against Hamdan's death.

On November 9th, the prime suspect handed over two IEDs two his fiends who threw the bombs at police who were monitoring the protests on Route 4, near Fureidis. The IED's fell close to the coppers but did not explode.

The prosecution also claimed that the prime suspect, who is 15-years-old, had previously traveled to the town of Al-Jiftlik in the West Bank where he learned how to make pipe bombs using matches and fireworks.

When he returned to Israeli territory, he purchased materials and made close to 20 bombs, some of which were made while two other suspects sat and watched. He went kaboom! some of the IEDs in his hometown.

A day after the Arab teens launched the homemade explosives at Israeli police, the suspects launched additional IEDs near the Fureidis post office and close to a local school.

The indictment also revealed that some of the suspects had wanted to launch another IED at police but set off the explosive on the side of the road instead.

Israel police said that more than one teen was involved in making the explosives.

Chief Superintendent Jacob Gov of the Central Beach Unit said that the investigation involved about 20 officers, detectives and Sherlocks from the Central Youth Unit.

The first suspects were arrested two weeks after the incident and police investigated a total of eight suspects. "They confirmed their participation in committing the offenses," said Chief Superintendent Gov, "and in one case led the researchers to a hidden explosive."

The prosecution requested to extend the remand of the seven suspects until the end fo the judicial process. They have been charged with serious weapons offenses and conspiracy to commit a crime.

Mohammad Darwish, the main suspect's lawyer said that the major disagreement was whether to call the IEDs weapons and said, "These are 14-15-year-olds that built these things as a game."

Is this a new term for Molotov cocktails?

I always think of land mines when I hear IED usually made from some left-over artillery shells. Kinda improbable for throwing.

Swiss hostage hacks Abu Sayyaf captor to death, escapes
[Oman Tribune] A Swiss man escaped from his Abu Sayyaf captors who held him hostage for two years by hacking to death one of their sub-commanders on the island province of Sulu.

Col. Allan Arrojado said a team of soldiers found Lorenzo Vinceguerra wandering in a remote village in the town of Patikul, Sulu, an Abu Sayyaf stronghold, on Saturday morning. Vinceguerre, who was injured in his escape after the militants fired upon him, was airlifted to a hospital and pronounced in stable condition.

Based on their initial interview, Arrojado said Vinceguerre managed to escape by hacking the neck of Juhurim Hussien, an Abu Sayyaf subleader thought to be holding other 10 hostages in Sulu.

Vinciguerra told soldiers that he had killed one of his abductors in a struggle over a machete while trying to escape. Arrojado said,"He ran while the bandits were shooting at him, but he got away."

A Dutch man who was abducted with Vinciguerra, Ewold Horn, had not been able to run away and is believed to still be a captive. Arrojado said Vinciguerra also told the military that Horn had been unable to run due to a back injury.

Syria Army Repels Jihadist Advance on Key Air Base
[AnNahar] Syrian troops have repelled an attack by jihadists from the Islamic State group on a key military airport in the eastern Deir Ezzor province, a monitoring group said on Sunday.

"Troops and pro-regime militia stopped the attack that Islamic State launched on the Deir Ezzor military airport," the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said, adding that both sides suffered heavy losses in the fighting.

The jihadists had withdrawn to the edges of the base, a day after managing to seize a southeastern part of the complex, it said.

The Observatory said more than 100 jihadists had been killed in fighting for the base since Wednesday, when they launched an operation to try to take the airport.

Pro-regime forces also suffered heavy casualties, with some 59 troops killed, it said.

State news agency SANA said Syrian army units had "repelled an attempt" by IS fighters to attack positions at the base, but provided no further details.

The Deir Ezzor air base is a key regime outpost from which warplanes and helicopters mount raids on jihadist positions in several areas of the war-wracked country.

IS fighters control most of Deir Ezzor province, but half of its capital remains in government hands.

The oil-rich province lies between IS-controlled Raqa province and the border with Iraq, and is a key prize for the jihadist group which declared an Islamic "caliphate" straddling the two countries in June.

Syrian Refugee Tents Set on Fire in Akkar as Others Come under Gunfire in Bekaa
Boys will be boys.
[AnNahar] Unknown assailants set on fire on Sunday Syrian refugee tents in the northern region of Akkar, reported the National News Agency.

It said that the development took place in Masha in the second of such incidents in two days.

No one was injured in the attack, reported al-Jadeed television.

A investigation has been launched in the incident.

Masha municipal chief Zakaria Zohby condemned the assault, demanding officials to uncover the attackers and bring them to justice.

Earlier on Sunday, gunnies from the eastern Bekaa district of Baalbek shot up Syrian refugee tents in the area, severely wounding two people, reported al-Jadeed.

It said that the gunnies, from the town of Hosh Tal Safieh, were riding in a black Jeep when they shot up the refugee encampment.

The injured were identified as Aziz al-Mlouh and Dahiyeh al-Qotouf.

They were also robbed of their mobile phones, LL 800,00, and 70,000 Syrian pounds.

They have since been taken to al-Rayan Hospital for treatment.

Tensions with Syrian refugees have been high in recent days in light of the execution of policeman Ali al-Bazzal by Islamists from Syria.

Al-Bazzal was one of around 30 Lebanese soldiers and coppers kidnapped by jihadists in August during fighting in Arsal.

On Saturday, the al-Bazzal family called on the state to start executing inmates linked to terrorist groups to ease the tension on the streets after the execution of al-Bazzal by al-Nusra
