Former official wounded in Kismayo Gun Attack
KISMAYO, Somalia -- Unidentified assailants in a car have wounded former Deputy Mayor of the southern port city of Kismayo Yasin Nur Gas (Raader) in apparently coordinated attack according to medics and relatives on Tuesday, Garowe Online reports.

Gas sustained serious injuries to the upper part of his body after the gunmen sprayed his car with bullets while driving out of Tawakal hotel.

A relative said that former Deputy Mayor of Kismayo is in critical condition as the attackers shot him in the head and the stomach. "Another mustard and qat poultice for His Enormity's wounds!"
"Umm, can you transfer me to a real hospital?"
Nobody claimed credit for the shooting but Gas, a well-known politician was targeted in similar gun attack in June 2013.

Algerian army kills man behind beheading
[INDEPENDENT.IE] The man behind the kidnapping and beheading of a French hiker in Algeria has been killed in a military operation, officials said.

A Ministry of Defence statement said Abdelmalik Gouri was killed with two associates near the city of corpse-littered Boumerdes, east of the capital Algiers. Two other turbans were later killed nearby, added the statement.

A group calling itself Jund al-Khilafah and pledging allegiance to the Islamic State

group in Syria kidnapped French hiker Herve Gourdel in the Djurdjura mountains in September.

Mr Gourdel was beheaded on video a few days later when demands for La Belle France to end air strikes were not met.

The Algerian army carried out a massive operation to find the group behind the kidnapping and said two other members had been killed in past months.

Gouri was killed in a late-night operation in the town of Isser. A local security source said the military had been tracking him for a while and nearly caught him a month before.

"This time the intelligence services had information that he was coming to visit his parents so they set an ambush," the officer said.

After the beheading of Mr Gourdel, the Jund al-Khilafah group issued videos showing masked men carrying weapons in a forest and pledging allegiance to Islamic State. Gouri, a former al Qaeda commander, split from al Qaeda in September and pledged allegiance to IS, promising new operations. While al Qaeda is active in the deserts in the deep south of Algeria, its activities in the northern mountains are restricted to occasional attacks on soldiers.

Five Killed As Libyan Forces And Islamist Fighters Clash In Benghazi

He was released around 1990 in a deal with the United States government and spent nearly two decades in the United States, gaining US citizenship. In 1993, while living in the United States, he was convicted in absentia of crimes against the Jamahiriya and sentenced to death. Haftar held a senior position in the anti-Qadaffy forces in the 2011 Libyan Civil War. In 2014 he was commander of the Libyan Army when the General National Congress (GNC) refused to give up power in accordance with its term of office. Gunmen shoot, seriously wound Egypt military officer
[Ynet] Gunmen on a cycle of violence shot an Egyptian military officer, seriously wounding him as he walked to work in a Cairo neighborhood, the military said Monday.

Military front man Mohammed Samir said on his official Facebook page that "terrorist elements" shot the non-commissioned officer in east Cairo's al-Marg neighborhood. He said the officer had multiple wounds in different parts of his body and was transferred to a military hospital for treatment.

Natural gas pipeline in Sinai targeted by gunmen
[IsraelTimes] Gunmen blew up and set fire to a natural gas line in the Sinai peninsula early Tuesday, the latest of a series of dozens attacks targeting the key line in recent years.

No group has so far grabbed credit for the attack, near the town of el-Arish, in the northern Sinai.

Egyptian security officials said all roads leading to the area had been closed after the kaboom, which took place early Tuesday morning.

The official Egyptian news agency MENA said the national gas company had stopped the flow of the gas.

Since the ouster of former Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak
...The former President-for-Life of Egypt, dumped by popular demand in early 2011...
in 2011 the pipeline has been attacked over two dozen times by jihadists, causing interruptions in the delivery of natural gas to Israel and Jordan.

The situation has prompted Jordan and Israel to search elsewhere for natural gas supplies.

In many of the past attacks, Ansar Bayt al Maqdis, a jihadi terror group reportedly aligned with the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. , grabbed credit for attacks and often cited them as Dire Revenge for perceived wrongs by the regime in Cairo against its members or affiliates.

The previous attack on the el-Arish pipeline took place mid-October, around the same time as an kaboom in Cairo which left 12 people dead and only hours after an Egyptian court sentenced seven convicted hard boyz to death ? all but one in absentia ? over the killing of 25 soldiers last year.

Egypt has been fighting hard boyz in the Sinai Peninsula for much of the past year since former president Mohammed Morsi was toppled in a military coup in July 2013. The violence has spread to Cairo in a series of suicide kabooms, liquidations and attacks in the capital.

Egypt Jihadists Release Video of 'Executions'
[AnNahar] An Egyptian jihadist group released video footage on Tuesday that it said showed the execution of two army informants in the holy warrior flashpoint of the Sinai Peninsula.

Ansar Beit al-Maqdis, the country's deadliest myrmidon group which has pledged allegiance to the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. group that has seized large areas of Iraq and Syria, has previously released videos of beheadings.

The new video posted on YouTube shows the "confessions" of four men who admitted to being informants.

It then shows a myrmidon shooting two handcuffed men, one of whom is also blindfolded, in the head. However,
we can't all be heroes. Somebody has to sit on the curb and applaud when they go by...
it is not clear if the two men killed were among those had confessed.

Jihadists are also shown manning checkpoints and searching for soldiers and coppers, and the footage features a myrmidon vowing to launch more attacks on Egyptian security forces.

Ansar Beit al-Maqdis (Partisans of Jerusalem) says it has killed at least 12 people since August last year, often by beheading, for allegedly working for Israel's Mossad spy agency.

Security in the Sinai Peninsula bordering Israel has worsened since the army ousted Islamist president Mohammed Morsi in July last year.

Militants have killed scores of security personnel, saying the attacks are in retaliation for a brutal government campaign against Morsi 's supporters.

The authorities have carried out a widespread crackdown which has left at least 1,400 people dead and more than 15,000 tossed in the clink.
Yez got nuttin' on me, coppers! Nuttin'!

Most of the deaths occurred when police stormed two pro-Morsi protest camps in Cairo in August last year.

Witnesses said the blasts occurred early in the morning at a time when only a few people were on the streets. One of the bombs went kaboom! when a member of the Houthi militia tried to dismantle it, residents said.

Russia convicts 57 in massive terror trial
[Borneo Post] A Russian court on Tuesday convicted 57 people, sentencing five of them to life imprisonment, after a decade-long trial over an armed raid on the North Caucasian city of Nalchik.

The October 2005 attack saw scores of armed men swarm the city, raiding several security offices, arms shops and other buildings. Fifty people died, including 35 policemen, and more than 200 were wounded. Following the attack several suspected perpetrators, including Chechen insurgent Shamil Basayev, were killed in various security operations.

Investigators said that the assailants "planned to create an Islamic state" in the Caucasus region through terrorism and used a wide range of weapons, ranging from Kalashnikov rifles to shoulder-fired missiles.

The Investigative Committee said the regional supreme court convicted all 57 defendants of various charges, giving them sentences ranging from 4 to 23 years. Five were sentenced to life in prison. Among the charges were terrorism, illegal arms possession, murder and armed rebellion.

The case lasted so long that three people were freed after the verdict because their pre-trial detention had already exceeded the length of their sentences. So many suspects had been detained that local authorities built a separate building to house them, and rights organisations objected to the group trial after it was clear that some of the defendants were not involved.

Pakistan boosts security for schools after Taliban attack
[Xinhua] Police in the Pak capital have devised a strategy to improve security for schools following a Taliban attack on an army-run school that killed 141 people, nearly all children, officials said Tuesday.

Police will arrange special briefings for students about security measures in schools, the Islamabad police chief said.

Inspector General of Police Islamabad, Tahir Alam Khan, told news hounds that school administrations have been conveyed to appoint a security officer in their respective schools and also supporting staff like security guards and watchman.

He said Islamabad police will also conduct special training for students on how to deal with security threats.

The police chief said that security of the capital Islamabad has also been enhanced and search operations are being conducted to ensure arrests of suspects.

The Islamabad police also set up a special reporting room at Secretariat cop shoppe.

Alam said that purpose of establishing the model reporting room is to enhance liaison with the public by resolving their problems on immediate basis and win their confidence on the police department.

He said that special rooms have been established for meetings of complainants with police officials to discuss their problems and eligible coppers will be deputed to serve the public.

Iraq
Bomber kills 26 anti-IS fighters in Iraq
[TIMESOFOMAN] A jacket wallah attacked Sunni fighters opposed to the IS group as they gathered on Wednesday to receive salaries south of Baghdad, killing at least 26 people, officials said.

The attack on the fighters, known as Sahwa, near a military base in the Madain area also maimed at least 56 people.

It was unclear how many of the victims were Sahwa fighters.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack, but suicide kabooms are a tactic almost exclusively employed by bandidos bandidos Death Eaters in Iraq, including the IS group.

IS spearheaded a sweeping bad boy offensive that has overrun much of Iraq's heartland since June -- areas that government forces have sought local people help to retake.

The Sahwa, or "Awakening" in Arabic, dates back to the height of the US-led war in Iraq, when rustics joined forces with the Americans to battle bandidos Death Eaters including IS's predecessor organization, the ISSI.

The Sahwa were key to sharply but temporarily reducing violence, but when Iraq's government took over responsibility for their salaries they were sometimes paid late or not at all.

Now fighters, including the Sahwa and other armed rustics, again have an important role to play in the fight against IS.

The Iraqi government has distributed arms and ammunition to rustics, and Prime Minister Haider Al Abadi aims to establish a national guard made up of local fighters, though the necessary law has yet to pass parliament.

IS militants return to outskirts of strategic Iraqi town
[Ynet] Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
bully boyz have returned to the outskirts of a strategic oil refinery town after being driven out last month, an Iraqi official said Tuesday.

Gov. Raed Ibrahim of the Salahuddin province said the bully boyz fought their way to the edge of Beiji after three days of heavy festivities.

He said they were able to advance because Iraqi troops lack heavy weapons.

The bully boyz captured Beiji and besieged its refinery - the country's largest - during their rapid advance across Iraq last summer. Iraqi forces wrested the town back in mid-November in one of their biggest victories to date against the turbans. The refinery is some 20 kilometers (15 miles) north of town.

Maoists free two soldiers in Mindanao
[Gulf Today] The New People’s Army (NPA) has announced the release of two Philippine soldiers abducted on December 2 from a banana plantation compound in Davao del Norte province in the "spirit of the Christmas season". In the same spirit, a spokesman of the National Democratic Front (NDF) announced it ordered the release of nine more hostages who were nabbed last year in the provinces of Surigao del Sur and Surigao del Norte.

The NPA abducted the two soldiers, who were assigned to guard a private airstrip during a raid in Davao del Norte. The communist rebels accused the company of violating its workers' rights, alleging 16-hour work shifts in which they were locked inside a building.

In a related development, NDF spokesman Jorge Madlos said in a press statement that nine more abducted soldiers and militiamen are to be released in time for the observation of the NPA's 46th founding anniversary on December 26. Madlos said that of the nine hostages, five including three policemen kidnapped in Surigao del Norte and two militiamen seized in 2013 in Agusan del Sur and Surigao del Sur.

Insurgent killed in Narathiwat clash
[Bangkok Post] A wanted insurgent was killed in a battle between Thai security forces and a group of militants in Rangae district of Narathiwat.

A team of soldiers and provincial police laid siege to a house at the edge of Bongo village around midnight on information that Arong Duramae and other rebels were hiding there. Arong, who is on police file as a bomb maker, was one of the six insurgents who broke out of jail in Muang district of Narathiwat on Jan 13, 2011.

As police and soldiers approached the house, about eight or nine men hiding inside opened fire. The gunfire exchange lasted for about 20 minutes.

After the battle, authorities found the body of a rebel with a pistol in his hand. He was later identified as Furdin Yoso, wanted for gunning down a policeman in Rangae district on Oct 11, 2012.

Jordan Confirms IS Captured Pilot after Plane Went down in Syria
[AnNahar] Jordan's military on Wednesday confirmed that one of its pilots was captured by the Islamic State jihadist group after his plane went down in Syria, official news agency Petra said.

"During a mission Wednesday morning conducted by several Jordanian Air Force planes against hideouts of the IS terrorist organization in the Raqa region, one of the planes went down and the pilot was taken hostage" by IS, Petra quoted a source from the military's general staff as saying.

The official did not say why the plane went down, but both the jihadists and a monitoring group said it had been shot with an anti-aircraft missile.

IS released photographs of the captured pilot and showed a military card identifying him as 26-year-old First Lieutenant Maaz al-Kassasbeh.

His father Youssef was quoted by Jordanian news website Saraya as saying the family had been informed by the air force of his capture.

He said he was told the military was "working to save his life" and that Jordan's ruler, King Abdullah II, was following events.

"My other son met with the commander of the Jordanian air force who confirmed to him that my son Maaz was captured by IS," he said, calling for the jihadists to show "mercy and free my son".

He said his son had served for six years in the air force.
More from The Times of Israel:
The Islamic State group on Wednesday shot down a warplane from the US-led coalition over northern Syria, a monitoring group said, with the jihadists claiming to have captured a Jordanian pilot.

“We have confirmed reports that IS members took a (non-Syrian) Arab pilot prisoner after shooting his plane down with an anti-aircraft missile near Raqa city,” the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.

The IS branch in Raqa published photographs on jihadist websites purporting to show its fighters holding the captured pilot, with a caption identifying him as Jordanian and giving his name.

Several photographs were released, including one showing the pilot, wearing only a white shirt, being carried from a body of water by four men.

Another showed him on land, surrounded by about a dozen armed men.

Jordan’s military confirmed that one of its pilots was captured by the Islamic State jihadist group after his plane went down in Syria, official news agency Petra said.

“During a mission Wednesday morning conducted by several Jordanian Air Force planes against hideouts of the IS terrorist organization in the Raqa region, one of the planes went down and the pilot was taken hostage” by IS, Petra quoted a source from the military’s general staff as saying Wednesday.

The jihadists claimed to have shot down the warplane with a heat-seeking missile.

The Britain-based Observatory, which relies on a wide network of sources inside Syria, had no further immediate information.

There was no immediate reaction from authorities in Jordan.

Jordan is among a number of countries that have joined the US-led alliance carrying out air strikes against IS after the jihadists seized control of large parts of Syria and Iraq.

Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Jordan and Bahrain are taking part in the air strikes in Syria alongside the United States.

Australia, Belgium, Britain, Canada, Denmark, France and The Netherlands have joined the raids in Iraq.

Coalition warplanes have carried out regular strikes around Raqa, which IS has used as the headquarters for its self-proclaimed “caliphate.”

ISIS makes gains in eastern Syria, Iraq
[Beirut Daily Star] ISIS turbans went on the offensive in eastern Syria Tuesday and have returned to the outskirts of a strategic oil refinery town in Iraq after being driven out last month, activist groups and officials said.

The U.S.-led coalition fighting ISIS in Syria and Iraq launched 10 more strikes against the bad boys, destroying various fighting positions, the American military said in a statement.

The seven strikes in Syria and three in Iraq also struck a unit of ISIS fighters as well as some of the bad boys' oil collection equipment, according to the Combined Joint Task Force for the operation.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, an anti-regime monitoring group based in Britannia, said ISIS fighters seized territory south of the city of Qamishli, after festivities with Kurdish militia fighters and pro-regime paramilitaries from the National Defense forces. The Observatory said dozens of ISIS fighters had entered Syria's Hassakeh province, where the festivities were taking place, from Iraq.

In Deir al-Zor province, ISIS turbans seized a hill overlooking the military airport on the outskirts of the historic provincial capital, the Observatory said. Regime forces and paramilitary groups defending the airport have recently beaten back two ISIS attempts to take the facility, one of the last outposts held by the regime in the east of the country.

ISIS fighters destroyed a tank and two heavy machine guns in the festivities, which coincided with 10 regime Arclight airstrikes against their positions.

The Observatory said that heavy fighting also took place between ISIS forces and Kurdish militia fighters in the border town of Ain al-Arab, and that three coalition Arclight airstrikes targeted the turbans during the festivities.

Three months of U.S.-led strikes in Syria have so far killed at least 1,171 people, mostly ISIS bad boys, the Observatory said.

Rami Abdel-Rahman, the head of the Observatory, told Rooters only 52 were civilians. In a separate statement, to Arabiya television, Abdel-Rahman said that in contrast, "90 percent" of the victims of regime Arclight airstrikes have been civilians.

His network of activists, who are based around Syria, said the corpse count since the military campaign was launched in late September was probably higher among ISIS bad boys. "This is because of the difficulty of activists reaching areas hit by the coalition and also because [ISIS] keeps a tight lid on its human losses," Abdel-Rahman said.

The U.S. and its allies have significantly scaled down their Arclight airstrikes in Syria since late September compared to the first month of the campaign, although the last several days have seen a slight increase in their frequency.

The Observatory said Tuesday's coalition Arclight airstrike on an oil facility in Deir al-Zor province killed three civilians.

In total, the United States carried out 488 air strikes in Syria through Dec. 15, according to U.S. military data. The Observatory figures do not include casualties in Iraq.

An Iraqi official, Gov. Raed Ibrahim of the Salahuddin province, said ISIS turbans fought their way to the edge of Beiji Tuesday after three days of heavy festivities. He says they were able to advance because Iraqi troops lack heavy weapons. The turbans captured Beiji and besieged its refinery ‐ the country's largest ‐ during their rapid advance across Iraq last summer.

Iraqi forces wrested the town back in mid-November in one of their biggest victories to date against the Lion of Islams.

Elsewhere in Syria, regime warplanes carried out at least 10 strikes targeting areas in eastern Damascus and its suburbs, the Observatory said.

Six civilians, among them four children, were killed by a strike against the rebel-held suburb of Douma, while regime planes pounded the neighborhood of Jobar with at least half a dozen strikes, it added.

The Syrian Revolution General Commission said the strike in Douma hit a school, in the second such incident this week.

Seven people were killed and 10 others were maimed in helizap on a village in Idlib province, in northwestern Syria.

The helicopter targeted a market with a barrel bomb in the village of Sufuhan, a rebel police official told the Anadolu Agency.

"The attack targeted civilians and the regime is taken Dire Revenge on civilians after losing Wadi Deif and Hamidieh," Lt. Mohammad Halabi said, referring to this month's seizure of army bases by rebel and jihadi groups.

Also, a mortar bomb struck the Damascus neighborhood of Maisat, after a recent lull in rebel strikes targeting the capital. No information about casualties was available, although the Observatory, citing local sources, said several ambulances rushed to the area.

IS Arrests 'Extremists' Accused of Plot against Group

group has claimed the arrest of four jihadists it classified as "extremists" accused of plotting against the organization in areas of Iraq and Syria under its control.

In a video purportedly posted by IS on jihadist websites, a male voice claims to have "captured an bully boy religious cell planning to take up arms against the Caliphate," referring to the regions it controls in both countries.

In what IS said were confessions, the four detained men said they had plotted against IS as the group doesn't view "all Iraqis and Syrians as infidels".

The men, speaking Azerbaijani Turkish, accused IS leader His Supreme Immensity, Caliph of the Faithful and Galactic Overlord, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi

of being "an infidel as he takes money from infidels".

The video does not specify when or where the men were placed in durance vile
Drop the heater, Studs, or you're hist'try!
but it carries the initials of Syria's Raqa province, a stronghold of IS in the north of the war-ravaged country.

The fate of the four detainees is also not revealed, although the video ends with the recitation of a Koranic verse stating that those who fight against God and the Prophet Mohammed deserve to die or have their arms and legs amputated.

The Financial Times newspaper over the weekend reported that 100 foreign IS members had been executed by the group after trying to flee Raqa.

#1  The men, speaking Azerbaijani Turkish, accused IS leader, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi of being "an infidel as he takes money from infidels"

Odd, considering that Azerbaijanis tend to be Shiite. Azerbaijanis also spent a lot of the last 400 years fighting or being subjugated by the Russians. Food for thought.
