Shaboobs kill two police officers in Puntland
Shaboobs Islamist fighters have killed at least two officers at a police post in a northern Somali town, rebels and police said on Thursday, as the Shaboobs militants, driven out of areas further south, make more frequent attacks in the semi-autonomous north.

African Union peacekeepers and the Somali army launched a campaign last year that has forced al Qaeda-linked Shaboobs al Shabaab rebels out of major strongholds in central and southern regions, but they still control many rural areas.

Analysts say the Shaboobs group might have shifted extra fighters to Puntland, a semi-autonomous northern region that was relatively calm till recently, and in the last two weeks, Puntland troops have fought rebels in the area over several days.

“Gunmen attacked us last night with grenades and gunfire. Two policemen died and three others were injured,” said Mohamuud Saciid, a Puntland police captain told Reuters, referring to Wednesday’s late night assault which he blamed on Shaboobs al Shabaab.

Al Shabaab’s military operations spokesman, Abdiasis Abu Musab, confirmed the group was behind the attack in Basasso port town, although he said three officers had been killed. Al Shabaab often gives a higher death toll than officials.

Residents worry that the attack, coming so soon after the fighting in the Galgala hill region, where Puntland security forces said they killed 20 militants, heralds the start of a new militant offensive in the area.

“It seems al Shabaab is increasing in number these days after the Galgala hills war. Some al Shabaab fighters have come into the towns,” Basasso resident Ahmed Nur said. He had heard of other attacks on police posts, he said.

“We also see many forces deployed into the town. We cannot say al Shabaab is as strong as it is in Mogadishu. However, the mood is changing here,” he said.

Kenya Korpse Kount
One Kenyan soldier and five suspected Islamists insurgents loyal to Somalia’s Al-Qaeda-affiliated Shebab fighters were killed in a battle in Kenya’s coastal Lamu district on Wednesday, the army said.

Kenyan troops, part of the UN-backed African Union force in Somalia fighting the Islamists, were travelling northwards close to the Somali border when they were attacked.

“A firefight ensued and five suspected Al-Shebab militants were killed,” army spokesman David Obonyo said in a statement, adding that one Kenyan soldier was killed and three others wounded. “Some militants escaped with multiple injuries, and immediately an operation was launched in pursuit.”

Wedmesday’s attack took place on the mainland in Lamu country near Basuba, over 60 kilometres (40 miles) north of Lamu island, a UNESCO World Heritage site dependent on tourism for its economy, that has been badly hit with visitors scared off by a string of attacks.

Egyptian Soldier Killed Defusing Bomb
[AnNahar]. An Egyptian soldier was killed trying to defuse a roadside kaboom in the restive Sinai Peninsula on Thursday, security officials said.

The soldier was killed in the town of Sheikh Zuweid, where jihadist snuffies have been active despite a sweeping army crackdown.

His death came two days after a kidnapped policeman was found rubbed out in the northern part of the peninsula, a jihadist hub.

Algeria finds body of beheaded Frenchman
[NEWS.YAHOO] Algerian troops found the body of French tourist Herve Gourdel, security sources said Thursday, months after he was beheaded by jihadists demanding that France halt air strikes against the Islamic State group.

The body was found buried without its head in Akbil, where Gourdel was abducted by the Jund al-Khilafa (Soldiers of the Caliphate) group, the sources said.

The army had mobilised 3,000 troops to find the 55-year-old mountain guide's body and launched a new search operation on Wednesday.

Excavations were carried out in Akbil and in the neighbouring town of Abu Youssef following a tip-off by an Islamist detainee, a security source told AFP.

The search was headed by an elite army unit and aided by sniffer dogs.

Police experts arrived at the burial site to conduct genetic tests to formally identify the body and Algeria's senior terrorism prosecutor, as well as the judge presiding over Gourdel's case, were also at the scene.

State paper: China arrests Turks smuggling Uighurs to Syria
[Ynet]. A Chinese state newspaper says Shanghai police have detained nine terror suspects from an ethnic minority in western China plus 10 Turkish people accused of helping them illegally travel abroad, including to Syria.

The Global Times reported Wednesday that the Turks were placed in durance vile
Book 'im, Mahmoud!
in November when the nine Chinese Uighurs attempted to sneak out of China with altered Turkish passports. The nine Uighurs, plus two other Chinese nationals who allegedly helped them, also were detained.

Citing Shanghai police, the report said each of the nine Uighurs was charged 60,000 yuan ($10,000) to leave the country via Shanghai's international airport.

German proposes jihadi ID Card - 'Ihre Papiere Bitte!'
[Breitbart] Despite confiscating passports, Germany has found Jihadists have still been able to leave the country to fight and get training abroad by using their Federal identity cards, so the state has proposed to replace them, with specially designed ‘Jihadi’ cards.
Hopefully loaded with biometric data and micro-locater beacon.

#1  This is problematic for many reasons, and will probably not survive a ruling from the German Constitutional Court.

My approach is different. Whoever leaves, leaves for good. Joining IS or other terror groups means you lose citizenship. You joined the enemy. So stay with him.

#2  Actually, I like your recommendation even better EC. Please collect the issued ID Cards prior to the miscreant's eviction or departure. I would further recommend a careful archiving of the returned ID Cards, but my recommendation would be superfluous.

#3  First of all, the lack of a proper ID card won't prevent anyone from leaving.

Then I don't think you can issue discriminatory ID cards to people you merely suspect of leaving and joining IS. ID cards are needed for many things in Germany. J for Jihadi? This is simply wrong. Of course this person must be watched over closely.

It's a lot different when this person has actually left Germany and joined IS. Sorry, no return possible. Rot away in Syria.

Another policeman shot dead
[DAWN] A policeman was rubbed out in Malir City on Wednesday, the police said.

They added that 35-year-old head constable Malik Abdul Hafiz was riding a cycle of violence when armed motorcyclists attacked him near the Jamia Arabia seminary in Gharibabad.

He sustained five bullet wounds and was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where doctors pronounced him dead

on arrival.

The suspects also took away his mobile phone, cash and pistol, said Malir City SHO Abdul Khaliq Marvat.

He had served in Malir City for a considerable period and had been transferred to DIG east headquarters around two months ago.

He lived in Green Park City in Shah Latif Town. It was not known as to where he was going, said the police officer.

The officer suspected that the incident might be linked to the ongoing assassination of coppers in the metropolis. The dear departed was in plain clothes at the time of the incident.

The police authorities suspended and demoted the Malir City SHO following the murder of the head constable in the area. The victim originally hailed from Gujrat and has one child.

Four suspects in imambargah attack held

four suspects.

However,
a poor excuse is better than no excuse at all...
tracing out the man who planted the bomb and detonated it, killing six people and injuring 15, would be a major breakthrough for the police.

Police sources said two of the suspects arrested were convicted of murdering PTV producer Aun Mohammad Rizvi in 1999 and were acquitted by the Supreme Court in October 2011. But the sources declined to disclose their names.
Police sources said two of the suspects arrested were convicted of murdering PTV producer Aun Mohammad Rizvi in 1999 and were acquitted by the Supreme Court in October 2011. But the sources declined to disclose their names. One of them, residing in Banni, had disappeared with his family from his house two days before the Imambargah was bombed, the sources said.

Police Sherlocks, the Counterterrorism Department (CTD) and intelligence agencies are now scouring for the suspects links to Hafiz Muhammad Nawaz facing death penalty for killing Aun Mohammad Rizvi.

Sources close to the investigation say the police had been desperately looking for the six accused tried in the 1999 murder of the television producer but acquitted of the charge in the end.

Yes, we have been working on putting his name on the Exit Control List when the man disappeared from his Banni house, Regional Police Officer Akhtar Umar Hayat Laleka said, suspecting his involvement in the Friday night bombing.

Police Sherlocks are viewing CCTV images of a man seemingly planting bomb in a drain pipe and then vanishing from the scene.

A senior police officer told Dawn that a remote controlled device planted inside a drain pipe caused the blast and the man who set it off must not have been far from the scene.

CCTV images show a man in white clothes arriving at the site at 3am Friday with a stick in his right hand and a bag in the left, and then walking away as if he came for surveying the surroundings.

Some time later he returned and inserted the stick in the drain pipe, taking care that it does not slip down. While doing all that, he pulled his cap down as if to hide his face. He sat close to the pipe giving the impression he was urinating. Police have found a battery cell used to detonate explosive from afar.

A top-ranking police officer confided on condition of anonymity that the face of the suspected explosive planter is recognizable and he seems to be from Bahawalpur or Abbottabad
... A pleasant city located only 30 convenient miles from Islamabad. The city is noted for its nice weather and good schools. It is the site of Pakistain's military academy, which was within comfortable walking distance of the residence of the late Osama bin Laden....
areas.

His images have been sent to Nadra for identification and police believe he would be captured soon.

The bomb went kaboom! at 9:30pm on Friday during a power break that lasted just a couple of minutes. The Sherlocks are ascertaining why the power supply was suspended for such a short span of time and why CCTV recording was not seen during that time.

Syed Ibn-e-Mohammad Rizvi, who lodged the FIR about the terrorist attack with the Waris Khan police, told Dawn that except the station house officer Raja Abdul Rasheed, none of the other senior police officer had contacted them since the terrorist attack happened on Friday.

Gun battle in Indian-held Kashmir kills five suspected rebels: police
[DAWN] Government forces in Indian-held Kashmire killed five suspected rebels on Thursday in a fierce hours-long gun fight in a forested area of the disputed region, police said.

Clashes erupted when police and army officers launched a hunt for the murderous Moslems after receiving specific information they were in the Gadar forest south of the main city of Srinagar.

The troops came under fire from the krazed killers, triggering the fire fight, the region's inspector general of police, Abdul Gani Mir, told AFP.

All the five murderous Moslems have been killed and their identities are being ascertained, he said.

Kashmire has been divided between India and Pakistain since the two countries won independence from Britannia in 1947. Both claim the picturesque Himalayan territory in full.

Tens of thousands of people, mostly civilians, have been killed since 1989, when rebel groups started fighting Indian government troops for independence or a merger with Pakistain.

At least two dozen people including civilians and soldiers on both sides have been killed and thousands living near the border have fled their homes since firing across the border started last year.

India and Pakistain forces have been exchanging intermittent fire across an undisputed part of their border in the south of Kashmire since October. Fighting picked up again early this month after a brief respite.

India routinely accuses Pakistain of supporting armed krazed killers, including by providing covering fire as they cross the border a charge Islamabad denies.

Thursday's shootout also comes within 24 hours of another in Sopore town in the north of the region that left one suspected rebel dead after a six-hour fight with government forces.

US drone strike kills seven in South Waziristan
[DAWN] At least seven suspected hard boyz have been killed while four others were maimed in a US drone strike near the Pak-Afghan border in South Wazoo Agency.

Two of the dead hard boyz are reported to be of Uzbek origin.

Intelligence sources say that the US drone fired two missiles on a compound in Wacha Dara area of Liddah Tehsil.

The Wacha Dara area is located near the Pak-Afghan border between Makeen and Shawal.

South Waziristan is among Pakistains seven tribal districts near the Afghan border which are rife with homegrown bandidos bully boys and are alleged to be strongholds of Taliban and Al Qaeda operatives, among others.

Drone attacks are widely unpopular across Pakistain and according to a survey conducted in June last year, 66 per cent of the country's citizens oppose these strikes.

Officials said about 20 gunmen led by Commander Cayub, of the MILF's National Guard, opened fire on the villagers in Guindulungan town after he couldn't locate a man who killed one of his relatives three months ago. Cayub’s group fled before soldiers could arrive.

Abu Sayyaf seizes, releases three construction workers
[Mindanao Examiner] Three construction workers were nabbed briefly by Abu Sayyaf militants in Basilan province. Officials said the three were seized by five militants under Abdulhassan Tabadjanul in Akbar town.

The victims were onboard a truck owned by Muktar Muarip's construction firm where the men are employed. It was not known whether Muarip negotiated for the release of his workers. Security forces recovered the trio in the same village where they were taken.

Captain Eugene Espino said, "After an hour of pursuing the bandits, the victims were released by their abductors. Subsequently, the victims proceeded to the location of their dump trucks where they were rescued by government troops."

Bomb fails to kill Thai district chief
The Chanae district chief escaped unharmed when a motorcycle bomb meant for him exploded on Wednesday afternoon as he drove by.

The bomb went off in mid-afternoon on a road outside a Muslim cemetery while Atthapol Sonsakul, the Chanae district chief, and four defense volunteers were heading to the district office. A gas cylinder was placed in the front of a motorcycle to side of the road. When the truck drove past, nearby insurgents detonated the bomb. It damaged the pickup, and four defense volunteers suffered minor injuries.

Security officers believe the attack may be a reprisal in response to recent killings of several key terrorists by security forces in Narathiwat and Pattani provinces.

Car Rigged with 120 Kgs of Explosives Seized in Arsal's Ain al-Shaab
[AnNahar]. The army seized Thursday a booby-trapped car containing around 120 kilograms of explosives in the northeastern border town of Arsal.

The Lebanese army closed the Ain al-Shaab road in Arsal and imposed a security cordon around a dirt road on which a Mercedes car flipped over, state-run National News Agency reported.

After suspecting that the vehicle could be booby-trapped, the army called in a bomb technician to examine the suspicious car.

It turned out to be rigged with 120 kilograms of extremely kaboom, which were defused by the military expert, NNA added.

On September 11, the army dismantled a booby-trapped car containing 100 kilograms of explosives in the same Arsal region.

The development comes after two jacket wallahs blew themselves up at a packed cafe in Tripoli

's Jabal Mohsen on Saturday, killing nine people and wounding more than 37 others.

In recent months, the outskirts of Arsal have been witnessing near-daily festivities between the army and Syria-based jihadist groups, which had stormed the town in early August and engaged in deadly battles with the army. They also took hostage around 35 troops and coppers.

Bassam Hussam al-Naboush, Elie Tony al-Warraq, aka Abou Ali, and Syrian national Muhannad Ali Mohammed Abdul Qader, who were plotting to carry out terrorist operations against army posts and residential neighborhoods, the Army Command said in a statement.

They were moving around the country with fake Syrian and Paleostinian IDs, the army added.

Investigations revealed that they were affiliated with the group led by the runaways Osama Mansour and Shadi al-Mawlawi, the army said.

The charges also involve pledging allegiance to terrorist groups, taking part in combat in Syria, attacking the (Lebanese) army, and participating in the festivities between the Jabal Mohsen and Bab al-Tabbaneh districts.

The interrogation of the detainees is underway under the supervision of the relevant judicial authorities, while the rest of the group's members are being pursued, the army added.

Mansour, Mawlawi and their gunnies fought unprecedented festivities against the army in Tripoli's old souks and Bab al-Tabbaneh on October 24 and 25. The battles also spread to the nearby northern regions of Bhannine and al-Mhammara.

The Islamist duo went into hiding as the army seized control of the aforementioned areas.

On Saturday, two jacket wallahs who hail from Tripoli's al-Mankoubeen targeted a packed cafe in Jabal Mohsen, killing nine and wounding 37 others.

It also accused the men of having fought in the civil war in neighboring Syria and of having pledged allegiance to unspecified terrorist organizations.

Five Canadians killed in Syria fighting with IS

Glad they're titzup, eh?
The National Post said Ottawa-born John Maguire, who joined IS jihadists in Syria in January 2013, died Wednesday in the flashpoint town Kobane.

In a video message last year, the former University of Ottawa student warned Canada it faces retaliation for participating in US-led Arclight airstrikes against IS.

Calling himself Abu Anwar al-Canadi, Maguire urged Moslems to follow the example of a driver in a hit-and-run killing of a soldier near Montreal and of a gunman who killed an unarmed soldier in Ottawa.

broadcaster CBC said that four other Canadians from a single family of Somali origin died in recent months while fighting with the Islamic State group in Syria.

Three of the cousins are thought to have left Canada in October 2013, the CBC reported.

Ahmed Hirsi said his 20-year-old son Mahad was killed last fall along with cousins Hamsa and Hersi Kariye.

The CBC said another cousin from Minnesota, Hanad Abdullahi Mohallim, was also killed.

Hirsi said his son had called him from Egypt to say he was traveling to Syria.

Hamsa and Hersis brother confirmed the two men had died, but did not say how or where. He denied they had traveled to Syria and said instead they went to Egypt to study Islam.

That is the path my brothers wanted to take from day one, he told CBC.

These people left their country to go study their religion.

Canada has joined the US-led campaign against the Islamic State group, which has taken over large swathes of territory in Iraq and Syria.

US air strikes in Syria, Iraq
US-led forces launched 11 air strikes each in Syria and Iraq since Wednesday, targeting extremist fighters, equipment and buildings, the US military said.

Five of the strikes in Syria were in the contested city of Kobani near the Turkish border, where they destroyed four fighting positions, a building and a tactical unit, the Combined Joint Task Force said in a statement on Thursday.

US and partner nations launched strikes near seven Iraqi cities including Mosul, Baiji and al Qaim, destroying a shipping container, tactical units, buildings, boats and land vehicles, it said.
