GARBAHAAREY/AfMADOW, Somalia -- Somali government forces captured undisclosed number of Al Shabaab militants in a gun battle on the outskirts of Gedo regional capital of Garbahaarey as new areas in Lower Juba fell to allied forces, Garowe Online reports.

On Thursday, Somali National Army (SNA) commander Col. Abdullahi Mohamed Abshir told the media that army troops are holding fighters from the militant group and will put them on display in the coming days.

Meanwhile, allied forces dislodged Al Shabaab militiamen from Janay Abdalle which lies 80km from Afmadow and nearby Farwaamo.

Al Shabaab controls trivial swathes of territories-mainly rural areas, and began to migrate northwards towards Puntland’s rugged terrain of Galgala.

Rockets continue to fall in Benghazi
[Libya Herald] Benghazi's downtown and port areas as well as some other parts of the city continued to be hit by random missiles today.

An army officer based next to the Islamic Call Society building in central Benghazi who did not want to be named told the Libya Herald that rockets had been landing nearby. He claimed that they had been fired from Garyounis and Gamfouda and accused Ansar al-Sharia

Other missiles are reported to have fallen in Beloun district. The new power plant next to the Hawari Hospital and designed to power it, was also hit by a random shell. Local residents managed to put the fire out and damage is said to be minimal.

According to the officer next to the Islamic Call Society building, the nearby Suq Al-Hoot area is now almost completely cleared of Ansar fighters. The LNA had entered the area, he claimed.

Seven Egyptian soldiers wounded in gunmen's attack: Media
[Iran Press TV] Seven Egyptian soldiers have been maimed in an attack by gunnies in the volatile Sinai Peninsula in the wake of a spate of myrmidon assaults in the region, Egyptian media report.

The incident took place in Sheikh Zuweid, between the cities of al-Arish and Rafah, north of the peninsula on Saturday, reports said, adding that three gunnies were also killed in the raid.

The assault came hours after Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi promised to defeat forces of Evil fighting government forces in the troubled region.

Sisi said his government is ready to brace for a long fight to defeat bandidos faceless myrmidons after a wave of myrmidon attacks in the area.

At least two children were killed in the peninsula on Friday, a day after some 44 people were killed and dozens of others injured in a series of myrmidon attacks across the volatile region.

On Thursday, a massive boom-mobile went off outside the headquarters of the 101st Brigade of the Egyptian army in the city of el-Arish, situated 344 kilometers (214 miles) northeast of the capital, Cairo, leaving scores of people dead and maimed.

Separately, an office of Egypt's most-widely-circulated daily, al-Ahram, was "completely destroyed" in an assault by gunnies on Thursday.

Two Egyptian army officers were also injured when an army convoy was targeted with mortar shells in the border town of Rafah on the same day.

Over an hour later, there were reports of another ambush on an army convoy just south of Rafah. Gunmen also reportedly attacked a checkpoint in Rafah.

The so-called Ansar Bait al-Maqdis myrmidon group grabbed credit for the Thursday attacks.

Drone Attack Kills Four Qaida Suspects in Yemen
[AnNahar] A drone strike killed four suspected al-Qaeda forces of Evil in Yemen Saturday, tribal sources said, the second attack in a week since Washington vowed to pursue its campaign against the jihadists.

Tribal sources said the unmanned aircraft, which only the United States operates in the region, targeted a car carrying four forces of Evil in the southern province of Shabwa, a stronghold of the jihadist network.

A similar strike on a car on Monday in a desert area between Shabwa and the neighboring province of Marib killed three suspected members of al-Qaeda.

That vehicle was hit by four missiles.

The previous day U.S. President Barack Obama
We're gonna punish our enemies and we're gonna reward our friends who stand with us on issues that are important to us...
had vowed no let-up in Washington's campaign against jihadists in Yemen.

He dismissed suggestions that deepening chaos in Yemen since the resignation of Western-backed President Abedrabbo Mansour Hadi last week had forced a change in Washington's campaign against al-Qaeda.

Obama ruled out U.S. troop deployment in Yemen but said Washington would continue "to go after high value targets inside Yemen", admitting however that this was "a long, arduous process."

According to the New America Foundation, the United States has carried out more than 110 strikes on targets in Yemen since 2009, mostly using drones.

Russia investigating nationals fighting with IS
The Russian supreme court has said that authorities are investigating at least 58 criminal cases against Russian nationals fighting alongside IS.

The court's decision says that a Russian citizen is among the commanders of Jabhat al-Nusra. It is likely that the man is fighting with a faction named Seyfullakh Shishani's jamaat (fighting group), an Uzbek-led group that is part of Jabhat al-Nusra, although it maintains its own structure and consists mainly of Russian-speakers.

The Supreme Court material is only partially accurate and contains some claims that are, at best, rather odd.

Iraq
Iraq Kurdish Forces Retake Oil Field, Villages from IS
[AnNahar] Iraqi Kurdish forces and police retook an oil field in Kirkuk province Saturday that was seized by the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. group overnight, and freed 24 workers who had been taken captive, officers said.

"Peshmerga forces and police cleared the Khubbaz (oil) field a little while ago and were able to enter it after surrounding it for hours," police Brigadier General Sarhad Qader said of the fighting, adding that they also retook eight villages.

IS had moved into the oil field Friday night and seized 24 workers, who were freed after they withdrew, peshmerga Major General Westa Rasul said.

A police colonel said their liberation was delayed because of fears that the bunker where they were held had been rigged with explosives.

During the fighting on Saturday, a sniper killed peshmerga Major General Hussein Mansur, Colonel Kawa Gharib said.

A peshmerga major was also killed and four more fighters maimed when an explosives-rigged house blew up.

Mansur was the second senior Kurdish officer to die in two days, after Brigadier General Shirko Rauf was killed Friday during a major IS attack in Kirkuk province.

The U.S.-led anti-IS coalition carried out 10 air strikes in Kirkuk province from Friday to Saturday, hitting IS units and vehicles and buildings used by the jihadists.

The bulk of Iraq's oil output comes from fields in the south, but the government is counting on production of 300,000 barrels per day from fields in Kirkuk in its 2015 budget, so any major loss of output would be damaging.

Suicide Bomber Kills Prominent Tribal Leader in Iraq
[AnNahar] A jacket wallah killed a prominent tribal leader and five other people in an attack southwest of Baghdad, police said on Saturday.

The bomber blew up a tanker truck rigged with explosives outside the home of Sheikh Lorens al-Hadhal in the al-Nikhaib area of Anbar province on Friday night, Major Alaa al-Dulaimi said.

as well as in Iraq.

The blast also maimed 14 people, Dulaimi said.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack, but suicide kabooms are a tactic almost exclusively employed by Sunni snuffies in Iraq, including jihadists of the Islamic State

Bombings Bag Bodies in Baghdad
Baghdad -- A series of bombings in and around the Iraqi capital killed nine people on Saturday. A bomb exploded near a sheep market on Saturday morning in the town of Madain, about 20 kilometres southeast of Baghdad, killing four people and wounding 11, police officials said.

A second blast struck near a string of car repair shops in central Baghdad, killing three people and wounding 10. Authorities said another explosion also struck an army patrol in the town of Taji, just north of Baghdad, killing two soldiers and wounding four. Medics confirmed the casualty figures.

Meanwhile, two Kurdish security officers said on Saturday that Kurdish Brig.-Gen. Hussein Mansour was killed on Friday night by a sniper shot near the oil rich city of Kirkuk during clashes between Daesh fighters and Kurdish security forces.

The two officials said that Mansour has just replaced Brig.-Gen. Shirko Fatih, who was killed early on Friday after Daesh militants attacked peshmerga fighters’ positions near Kirkuk.
Iraqi News adds this detail:
The website of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) cited "The Colonel, Hussein Mansour, the Commander of the 5th Brigade within the Kurdish Peshmerga Forces was killed by a sniper while fighting the ISIL murderous Moslems in Mulla Abdullah area in Kirkuk."

Firebomb Terrorist Killed by IDF in Samaria
[ISRAELNATIONALNEWS] A terrorist was killed Saturday evening by a force of IDF paratroopers, after he and a second terrorist were identified throwing Molotov cocktails at vehicles on the Gilad road in Samaria, next to Yitzhar.

The second terrorist escaped and was caught a short while later. He was slightly maimed.

The Head of the Samaria Regional Council, Gershon Mesika, said Saturday evening: "I wish to congratulate the soldiers who reacted properly vis-a-vis the terrorist this evening. Unfortunately, we already know what terrible results the rock and Molotov cocktail terror can have."

"Therefore, we must strengthen our soldiers who face the enemy daily and as we saw this evening, do not hesitate to react. It is important that every terrorist know that once he prepares to throw a rock or Molotov cocktail at an IDF force or Israeli citizens ‐ he is fair game."

Eleven-year-old Ayala Shapira, critically maimed in a firekaboom last month in central Samaria, is improving.

Avner Shapiro and his daughter Ayala were attacked by Arab gunnies who threw a Molotov cocktail at their vehicle on December 25.

The two suffered burns, but managed to escape from their burning vehicle, with Avner carrying his seriously maimed daughter along a narrow and dark road for over a kilometer to their community of El-Matan. The incident occurred on a service road between Ma'ale Shomron and El-Matan. Ma'ale Shomron is located off Road 55, which stretches between Kfar Sava and Shechem.
The Times of Israel notes:
The army told Ynet News the section of road in question had suffered dozens of rock-throwing and Molotov cocktailing attacks over the past year, and said the troops had been deployed in the area for the express purpose of finding such assailants.

The IDF noted that troops had been instructed to use live fire against anyone throwing Molotov cocktails.

MILF: We lost men too
Mohagher Iqbal, the MILF's chief negotiator, said his group also suffered heavy casualties in the deadly encounter in Maguindanao.

In a joint press conference with the government peace panel, Iqbal said 18 MILF fighters were "martyred". Another 14 were wounded.

He said, "I am very hopeful that as soon as the truth would come out the MILF would be vindicated and I think we are doing everything including this press conference so that we would approach the problem on a very objective manner."

Iqbal also appealed to the public, "especially to members of the media… not to fan the emotions of hatred and prejudices."

He said, "The Bangsamoro people have also suffered a lot in the conflict in Mindanao, as a result of several massacres in the various parts of the Bangsamoro. The encounter in Mamasapano, Maguindanao was not intended by either side. It was a pure and simple misencounter. The operation was intended by the BIFF which is coddling Marwan and Basit Usman."

Military Expert Detonates Bomb in Zgharta's Majdlaya
[AnNahar] A military expert detonated a bomb that was found on a side road between the district of Zgharta and the northern city of Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
, the military said on Saturday.

"At 8:30 p.m. on Friday an army unit located four kilograms of explosives on Majdlaya - al-Qobbeh road," the army said in a communique.

The statement said that the military cordoned off the area as a military expert arrived at the place to detonate it.

The bomb, which was set to explode, was located on the side road of the town of Majdlaya that lies between the city of Tripoli and the town of Zgharta.

"An investigation is underway to find the culprits," the army pointed out.

LBCI reported earlier that the army detained two people at dawn at the Majdlaya checkpoint after tossing a bomb near the army.

On Wednesday, a military expert defused around 10 kilograms of explosives found on the same road in Majdlaya.

The army communique said the bomb was made up of a gas cylinder filled with 10 kilograms of explosives, and linked to a detonator and a 15-meter electric cable.

Kurds Battle IS Jihadists around Syria's Kobane

jihadists around the Syrian town of Kobane on Saturday, seeking to expand their control in the area, a monitor said.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said Kurdish fighters from the People's Protection Units (YPG) had seized a village on Saturday as they battle to expel IS from the region.

YPG fighters now control 17 of the hundreds of villages, some no more than a few houses, in the Kobane area.

Most of those recaptured have been taken since the key town on the border with Turkey was taken by Kurdish fighters on January 26.

While IS has been expelled from Kobane, its forces remain scattered throughout the countryside around the town to the southeast and southwest.

In a statement released late Friday, the YPG said it had managed to "liberate several regions" in the west of Kobane.

It said it also seized several military vehicles and captured a boom-mobile and weapons and ammunition from IS forces.

The recapture of Kobane was a major blow against IS, which began advancing on the town on September 16 in a bid to secure its control over a long stretch of the Syrian-Turkish border.

At one point it looked poised to overrun the town, but Kurdish forces, backed by repeated U.S.-led air strikes, reclaimed Kobane on January 26.

In a video posted on the Internet, IS-linked media said the jihadists had withdrawn from Kobane because of the air strikes but vowed to return, the SITE monitoring group reported.

Some 200,000 people fled into Turkey from the Kobane region because of the fighting, with most unable to return for now because of the destruction caused during the violence.

Everyone seems to be gearing up. How long till the next world war starts? Any guesses?

#11  See TOPIX > [NZ Herald] ISIS: "LET NIGHTMARE FOR JAPAN BEGIN".

The ISIS/ISIL video strongly implies or infers that Violent Jihad-Insurgency will come to Japan iff its demands vee hostage swap + $$$ are not met.

* FYI YAHOO NEWS > BATTLE FOR OKINAWA: ISLANDERS SQUARE OFF AGZ TOKYO OVER BASES.

* TOPIX > [NewsMax] IRAN NOW A NUCLEAR-READY STATE, [wid] MISSLES CAPABLE OF HITTING THE US.

* SAME, DEFENCE.PK/FORUMS > ISLAMIC STATE THREATENS TO INVADE SAUDI ARABIA - TIMES OF INDIA.

Ostensib during the specific power transition from newly deceased King Abdullah to his successor King Salman, BROADLY AT ANY TIME THE ISIS/ISIL FEELS LIKE ATTACKING THE KSA???

JAPAN = US, ETAL. = MUST WORRY OVER ANY HARD BOY TAKEOVER OF ASIA'S NUKES-WMDS + LRBMS.

Can Globalist Obama andor his post-Jan. 2017 POTUS Successor prevent the ISIS or ISIS-style Islamic hardlinism from taking over OWG Co-Superpower IRAN, + Turkey, etal.
