[FOXNEWS] Government officials were meeting at the Central Hotel in Somalia's capital when an Islamic bad boy rammed an explosives-laden vehicle into the hotel gate, and another went in and went kaboom!, killing at least 10 people on Friday, officials said.
Mogadishu's deputy mayor and a politician were killed in the attack, a politician said, and the country's deputy prime minister was among the maimed, said a police official.
The attack is the latest blow to the Somali government's efforts to contain the deadly insurgency by the al Qaeda-linked al-Shabaab ... Somalia's version of the Taliban, functioning as an arm of al-Qaeda... that, despite the loss of key strongholds in Somalia, continue to stage attacks in the capital and elsewhere. The Islamic myrmidon group grabbed credit for the twin suicide kabooms, according to the group's radio station, Andulus.
"We can confirm that more than 10 persons, including politicians and soldiers were killed in that horrific attack," said Capt. Mohammed Hussein, a senior Somali police officer.
The blast ripped off large parts of the hotel's wall and smoke blackened its facade. Two dead bodies were lying outside the hotel in Mogadishu, and a maimed man struggled to stand up, but immediately collapsed as blood gushed from his abdomen. Soldiers had cordoned off the area.

Social media showed photos of hooded gunnies in pick-up trucks and 4X4 vehicles mounted with anti-aircraft guns, brandishing the black flag of IS, which has seized large swathes of Syria and Iraq and is believed to have extended its presence to the North African country.
Witnesses said the gunnies had also taken over the once grandiose Ouagadougou Center in what is the hometown of the late Muammar Qadaffy ...who single-handedly turned a moderately prosperous kingdom into a dictator's fantasyland and was then murdered by his indignant subjects 42 years later... , where the then dictator once organized extravagant African or Arab summits.
An Agence La Belle France-Presse photographer who managed to visit the city briefly, said the Fajr Libya and IS forces were keeping their distance from each other and that there had been no hostilities between them.
Last week, jihadists seized state-run Radio Sirte and several government buildings in the city, hometown of Muammar Qadaffy, which has become a bastion of Islamic extremism since the dictator's overthrow and death in 2011.
Sirte is a bastion of a group called Ansar al-Sharia ...a Salafist militia which claims it is not part of al-Qaeda, even though it works about the same and for the same ends. There are groups of the same name in Libyaand Yemen, with the Libyan versions currently most active. Tunisia's Shabaab al-Tawhid started out an Ansar al-Sharia and changed its name in early 2014. It still uses the old name now and then, probably because the stationery's not all used up and the web site hasn't expired yet... , classified as a terrorist organization by the United Nations ...an organization conceived in the belief that we're just one big happy world, with the sort of results you'd expect from such nonsense... , which is believed to have links to IS.
Several days ago, IS affiliates in Libya released a video showing their beheading of 21 Coptic Christians, most of whom were Egyptian, taken prisoner in the country. That prompted Egypt to bomb jihadist targets in Libya and to threaten further action.

Unknown assailants in the canal city of Suez shot up a police patrol on a highway late on Wednesday, killing a police recruit who was driving the vehicle and injuring a lieutenant.

Speaking to Asharq Al-Awsat on the condition of anonymity, Yemeni political sources said the leader of the powerful group, Abdul Malik Al-Houthi, sacked the head of the "Revolutionary Committee" Mohammed Ali Al-Houthi after he failed to convince other factions to join with it in forming a new government in the wake of president Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi's resignation.
A top military commander, Mohammed Al-Houthi emerged as the de facto ruler of Yemen after the Shi'ite group, officially known as Ansar Allah, announced a controversial declaration earlier this month that dissolved parliament and tightened its grip on the organs of government.
He also reportedly played a key role in the Houthi seizure of the Yemeni capital Sana'a in September.
Prominent Houthi leader Youssef Al-Fishi has now been appointed the new head of the committee, according to sources.
While some sources said Mohammed Al-Houthi had resisted his dismissal, a senior Ansar Allah figure, Saleh Al-Samad, toldAsharq Al-Awsat that reports of his dismissal were untrue.
The talks between the Houthis and their rivals, conducted under the auspices of the UN, have failed to produce an agreement to end Yemen's worsening political crisis. Several parties have already walked out of the talks, demanding the Houthis withdraw from Sana'a, surrender power, and lift the virtual house arrest they have imposed on outgoing president Hadi and other bigwigs.

Jailer Nesar Ali of the Dhaka Central Jail told the Dhaka Tribune that they had received the death warrant.
"We will take further steps in line with the directives stated in the death warrant," he added.
The judges of tribunal 2 signed the warrant around noon yesterday.
An official of the tribunal left the premises around 12:50pm with the warrant, wrapped in a piece of red cloth, to hand it over to the jail authorities.
The full verdict of Kamaruzzaman's appeal case against his death penalty was released on Wednesday. The Jamaat leader would get 13 more days from today to file a review petition.
The Appellate Division might take a week to hear and dispose of the petition, Attorney General Mahbubey Alam said after the release of the full verdict. "If it dismisses the review petition, Kamaruzzaman can seek presidential mercy to save his neck." The top court delivered its verdict upholding the tribunal's death penalty on November 3 last year.
The tribunal sentenced Kamaruzzaman to death on May 9, 2013 for committing crimes against humanity during the 1971 Liberation War. Five out of seven charges were proved by the prosecution in the case.
Kamaruzzaman appealed against the judgement after a month.
The Apex Court handed down capital punishment to Kamaruzzaman for the massacre of Sherpur's Sohagpur village, which has come to be widely known as "Bidhoba Palli," or the village of widows, following a mass killing in 1971.

A British teenager arrested in London carrying a knife, a hammer and a black Islamist flag and inspired by the killing of a soldier was on Thursday found guilty of plotting an attack.
Brusthom Ziamani, 19, was detained in August 2014.
The jury at London's central criminal court convicted him of "preparing an act of terrorism" and he now faces years in jail when sentenced on March 20.
The court was told that he had been inspired by the brutal murder of British soldier Lee Rigby on a south London street in 2013.
Ziamani became radicalized by members of Death Eater organization al-Muhajiroun (ALM), attending their meetings in a halal sweet shop in east London.
During the meetings, Ziamani produced his black flag and said: "I'm going to rock it everywhere I go" and wrote online that he was "willing to die in the cause of Allah."
Police said they were alerted to his intentions after he showed his weapons to his ex-girlfriend.
He had previously been arrested in June 2014 on an unrelated matter, and police found a ripped-up letter in his trousers in which he wrote about attacking a British soldier.
Ziamani claimed he was only "ranting and raging about the situation in Moslem countries" and that his postings were an attempt to "fit in" with the ALM group.
He said he was carrying the weapons as protection after getting out of a credit card theft operation.

[DAWN] KARACHI: A textile mills general manager belonging to the Ismaili community was rubbed out along with his driver in a suspected sectarian attack in North Nazimabad behind a cop shoppe soon after he came out of his home on Wednesday, officials said.
They added that a police party present on the spot went after the suspected attackers and detained one of them, allegedly belonging to a banned sectarian outfit.
The officials said that 50-year-old Mohammed Karim left his home in a chauffeur-driven car in Block-D behind the North Nazimabad cop shoppe when armed motorcyclists attacked them and fled.
They sustained critical wounds and were taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where doctors pronounced Karim and his 55-year-old driver Mohammed Nawaz dead on arrival.
A police party led by North Nazimabad DSP Afaq Ahmed chased the fleeing suspects and managed to detain a suspected hit man while another fled, the police claimed.
Karim was a general manager of the human resource department in a textile mills.
"The victim belonged to the Ismaili community and the incident appeared to be of sectarian nature," said additional inspector general of police of Bloody Karachi ...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous... Ghulam Qadir Thebo.
He added that the held suspect identified as Ishaq alias Hashim allegedly told interrogators that he belonged to Charsadda in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa ... formerly NWFP, still Terrorism Central... and had come to Karachi recently to target members of the Ismaili community.
The suspected hit man told the police that he belonged to the banned Sipah-e-Sahaba Pakistain ...a Sunni Deobandi organization, a formerly registered Pak political party, established in the early 1980s in Jhang by Maulana Haq Nawaz Jhangvi. Its stated goal is to oppose Shia influence in Pakistain. They're not too big on Brelvis, either. Or Christians. Or anybody else who's not them. The organization was banned in 2002 as a terrorist organization, but somehow it keeps ticking along, piling up the corpse counts... and their outfit had formed two teams of hit men to carry out killings of Ismaili and Shia community members in Karachi. Mr Thebo said that Ishaq claimed that he belonged to Charsadda, but it transpired that he belonged to Karachi. Besides, all numbers in his seized mobile phone were traced back to Karachi, the police officer added.
However, ars longa, vita brevis... the city police chief said the detention of the suspect from the spot was a major breakthrough and they hoped to get 'leads' from him that would help them bust their network of hit men.
Replying to a question, Mr Thebo claimed that this was a second assassination incident in the city in February. Previously, PPP leader Danish Ramzan who belonged to the Shia community was targeted in Gulshan-e-Iqbal.
"These are only two incidents of assassination out of 36 murders in this month of February so far," the AIG Karachi said.

The injured were rushed to district headquarter hospital in Dera Murad Jamali for medical treatment.
The blast was heard over a wide radius, causing panic in the area. There has been no claim of responsibility for the blast.

The military said in a communique that it apprehended Walid Mohammed Kheir Ali Hussein in the town of Bar Elias on suspicion of having ties with terrorist groups.
His arrest came as part of a security crackdown by the authorities in the Bekaa.
Other arrested suspects included a Syrian, who had fake identification papers and was driving a car with no proper registration papers, and a Lebanese man who was smuggling food to the outskirts of the northeastern border town of Arsal.
In the areas of Baalbek, Talya and Douris, the military said it detained a wanted Lebanese man and four others for driving unregistered cars.

[AnNahar] A rebel counter-attack and stormy weather are preventing Syrian government forces from pressing their offensive in the northern province of Aleppo on Thursday, a monitor said.
They've been experiencing serious global warming all over the Levant these days. Possibly Allah is not pleased about something.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the assault was stalling on its third day and that the festivities have killed 170 people, including 90 government troops and allied fighters.
The offensive has so far failed to break a rebel siege of the regime-held Shiite villages of Nubol and Zahraa, but government forces had effectively cut the turbans' main supply route from Turkey into the east of Aleppo city.

On another front, rebel fighters were battling government forces around the regime-held village of Bashkoy, also in the Aleppo countryside.
"Most probably the offensive will fail because of the regime's inability to get reinforcements and because of the bad weather," he said in reference to winter storms that have lashed the region.
The Observatory said 90 regime combatants, including allied militiamen, had been killed in the offensive since Tuesday, as well as more than 80 rebels, among whom were 25 foreign jihadists.
Regime forces had captured 40 rebel fighters, while 32 government troops and allied turbans were seized by the turbans.
On Tuesday the U.N. envoy to Syria, Staffan de Mistura, said the Damascus government was ready to suspend aerial bombardment of Aleppo for six weeks to allow humanitarian aid into the northern city.
Once Syria's economic hub, Aleppo has been divided between regime control in the west and rebel control in the east since shortly after fighting began there in mid-2012.
In the surrounding countryside the situation is largely the reverse, with rebels controlling much of the area west of the city and regime forces much of the east.

The advance comes as Kurdish and rebel forces push outwards from the border town of Kobane, from which they expelled IS forces after more than four months of fighting.
Since driving IS out of Kobane on January 26, Kurdish and allied forces have taken much of the surrounding countryside in northern Aleppo province and begun pushing east into neighboring Raqa province.
They have captured some 242 villages around Kobane, including the 19 in Raqa province, according to the Observatory.
They are now 25 kilometers (15 miles) from Tal Abyad, another Kurdish-majority border town overrun by IS.
Located 65 kilometers east of Kobane, the town is used by IS fighters to cross into Turkey.

On Thursday, Sky TV said that a Briton has left military service to join the Kurdish forces of the Peshmerga in Iraq.
The source reported that the man, whose identity remained anonymous, has earlier told his family he intends go to the Middle-East, whiteout mentioning his plan to join the Peshmerga.
The British authorities are aware of the case and are carrying out investigations at the moment.
"We are aware of these reports and we are looking into them," Sky quoted a British official as saying.

Speaking to ARA News, aid worker M.N. said that rebels of the Army of Islam were able to repel an infiltration attempt by the pro-Assad forces who were backed by Iraqi Shiite militias and members of the Lebanese militia of Hezbollah, in the area of ââTel Kurdi, eastern the city of Duma in Ghouta.
Duma is deemed the largest city in Damascus countryside.
The same source pointed out that the rebels of the Army of Islam destroyed several pro-Assad tanks and armored vehicles.
On the other hand, units of border guards in the pro-Assad Syrian Arab Army, were able to thwart an attempt by hard boyz to infiltrate the Syrian-Jordanian border Thursday morning, the Syrian state news agency SANA quoted sources from the Syrian regime's army as saying.
"Units of the border guards were engaged in festivities with a group of hard boyz who tried to infiltrate into the Syrian territory near police headquarters "62" and "63" southwest the town Mataiya in southern Daraa, which resulted in the death of a several hard boyz and the injury of many others, while the rest fled returning to the Jordanian territory," SANA reported.

Speaking to ARA News in Raqqa, Yasser al-Harbi, 29, said that the group started storming houses in some neighborhoods, trying to oblige people abide by the new regulations.
"People can only leave through a guarantor (third party who apparently will be responsible for his return) or paper signed by the governor or for critical health conditions," the source added, pointing out that in the case of non-return the group will imprison the guarantor and confiscate his property.
"They are watching all the moves, and preventing women from leaving their houses," said al-Harbi.

Two strikes also were staged near Al Hasakah, Syria, the task force said in a statement.
Eight air strikes near six Iraqi towns hit fighting positions, tactical units, a weapon-storage facility, vehicles and buildings.
All the strikes were conducted between Wednesday and Thursday mornings, the statement said.

In a related development, activist Abdel Qader Shihab from al-Bab told ARA News that the power of IS has remarkably declined in the recent weeks.
"The group is trying to compensate its losses in other areas by showing an increasing degree of brutality against civilians in al-Bab," Shihab said.
He added that the IS gunnies are launching arrest campaigns against the youth of the city without any specific reason.
