Misratan forces kill and capture Sirte IS fighters: report
[Libya Herald] Misratan Libya Dawn
...aka Fajr Libya, the Islamist operation launched to counter that of General Khalifa Haftar (Operation Dignity). It is made up of the Libya Shield militia (Misrata and Moslem Brotherhood), Libya Revolutionaries Operations Room (Moslem Brotherhood), and Tripoli Brigade (close to Abdul Hakim Belhaj, head of Al-Watan party). Financing and moral support come from Turkey and Qatar...
forces claim to have killed 17 Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
fighters and lost two of their own, in yesterday's fierce battles in Sirte.

Details are confused but the fighting appears to have started after IS units set up a checkpoint on the coastal highway in the eastern section of the town.

A Misratan unit sent to investigate came under fire and a battle then developed. Misrata's 166 brigade has been positioned guarding roads leading into the town for some weeks, after IS announced its presence in Sirte, draping black flags from public buildings and taking over the radio station.

A front man for Libya Dawn's Al-Shorooq force told the media that battles had continued throughout the day. He said that Dawn forces had taken several IS fighters prisoner and had sent them back to Misrata.

Photographs on social media showed Misratan fighters in armed jeeps battling in the town.

One Misrata source told Libya Herald that its forces had killed and captured several IS imported muscle, but gave no details of their nationality. He said the prisoners would be questioned back in Misrata.

In recent months IS forces have established bases in Sirte, Derna and Nawfilya, a small settlement south-east of Sirte. In February IS in Sirte posted images showing the execution of 21 Christians, 20 from Egypt, apparently on the Sirte shoreline. Egypt launched retaliatory air strikes. Earlier this month gunnies, believed to be IS, beheaded 8 Libyan guards and kidnapped 9 foreign hostages from Al-Ghani oilfield, south east of Sirte.

Yesterday's festivities bring to an end a tacit ceasefire between Libya Dawn forces outside the town and IS units within. Several journalists who visited the area this month reported that Misratan units maintain checkpoints around the town. However,
it's easy to be generous with someone else's money...
IS units are inside, holding sites including the central Ouagadougou conference hall, from which a black IS flag has been draped.

Libya Dawn said it had previously held back from a direct assault on the town for fear of civilian casualties. It also seems to be concerned about its military capacity being overstretched, by involvement in the stalled attack on Sidra and deployments to the south at Sebha and to the west of Tripoli

#1  Now I am really confused.

Libya Dawn is supposedly a Moslem Brotherhood Islamic force. Some where in all of this I thought they were aligned with Ansar al Sharia in Benghazi since they went to war in Tripoli when Haftar and Operation Dignity or whatever went to war with Ansar al Sharia.

Ansar al Sharia, I thought, had pledged loyalty to ISIS and was part of the big move in Southern Libya by Islamists to take over the oil fields and refining capability of Libya to starve out the popularly elected government.

So now we have Fajr Libya/Libya Dawn taking pot shots at ISIS/Ansar al Sharia?

Sort of like Abbott and Costello's who's on first...

Can someone with some good intell straighten me out? I thought I had Libya figured out.

Explosion at west Tripoli checkpoint kills one, injures five
[Libya Herald] One coppers was killed and five were maimed after an bomb exploded at the Ghiran checkpoint in the western region of Tripoli

this afternoon..

No one has grabbed credit for the kaboom, the news agency LANA reported.

The attack on the checkpoint comes only 3 days after a bomb went kaboom! outside the cop shoppe in the central Tripoli district of Zawiet Al-Dahmani. That attack, which was claimed by IS, caused no deaths or injuries. There was damage to the cop shoppe and to cars.

41 judges sacked 'for supporting Brotherhood'
[ARABNEWS] An Egyptian disciplinary court ordered 41 judges into compulsory retirement on Saturday for supporting the outlawed Moslem Brüderbund, judicial sources said, the latest move in a sweeping crackdown on political dissent.

The Disciplinary Council headed by Nabil Zaki, a judge, did not immediately release the reason for its decision, but the judicial sources said 31 of the judges were sent into compulsory retirement for signing a statement condemning Mursi's removal.

Another 10 were removed from their posts for joining the "Judges for Egypt" group, which supported the Brotherhood even before Mursi's removal, the sources added.

Egyptian law prohibits judges from engaging in politics, but critics and human rights
...which often include carefully measured allowances of freedom at the convenience of the state...
groups say the judicial disciplinary court has turned a blind eye to judges who openly support the current government.

The government says the judiciary is independent and it never intervenes in its work.

"The decision is shocking and it is a massacre of the judges," Ahmed El-Khatib, one of the punished judges, told Rooters. He made no comment about whether he supported the Brotherhood.

The judges have the right to appeal the decision.

Separately, security forces placed in durance vile
Don't shoot, coppers! I'm comin' out!
63 middle-level Brotherhood leaders who face charges of attacking police headquarters and inciting violence, Egypt's Interior Ministry said in a statement on Saturday.

Another 13 Brotherhood supporters were arrested on suspicion of possessing arms and ammunition, it added.

Zintan airport bombed by Libya Dawn aircraft
[Libya Herald] Zintan airport was bombed by Libya Dawn
...aka Fajr Libya, the Islamist operation launched to counter that of General Khalifa Haftar (Operation Dignity). aircraft on Saturday, the pro House of Representative LANA news agency reports.

LANA's Zintan correspondent reported that three aircraft targeted the civilian airport with what he referred to as new type of high explosive bombs not used in previous air raids.

However,
the difference between stupidity and genius is that genius has its limits...
he reported that the bombs which had landed on the runway had failed to cause any damage to property or cause any injury to any people.

Some of the bombs had failed to detonate, the report stated, and were subsequently destroyed in a controlled detonation.

The report noted that on Friday a Libyan Airline flight had arrived at Zintan civilian airport and returned to Al-Beida's Labrak airport.

Somali Islamists kill at least one in attack in north Kenya
[Ynet] Somali Islamist bully boyz killed at least one man and maimed three others in the northern Kenyan town of Mandera on Sunday, the second deadly attack in the area in three days, an official and the Islamist group said.

The Mandera region, which lies on the border with Somalia, has long been targeted by al-Shabaab
... Somalia's version of the Taliban, functioning as an arm of al-Qaeda...
, which has said it wants to punish Kenya for sending troops into Somalia where they are fighting alongside other African peacekeepers. Mandera County Commissioner Alex Nkoyo said four mechanics were attacked by gunnies while they were driving home. One was killed and the other three were being treated in hospital, the commissioner said. Al-Shabaab said it carried out the killings. "Tonight, we carried out an operation inside Mandera town of Kenya. We killed one person and injured three others," Sheikh Abdiasis Abu Musab, the group's military operation front man, told Rooters.

Bombs Found in Camp for Displaced People in Nigeria's Maiduguri
[AnNahar] Nigerian soldiers on Saturday detonated two homemade bombs found in a camp housing people displaced by Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
violence in the restive northeastern city of Maiduguri, witnesses told AFP.

Two men suspected of planting the explosives were nabbed
You have the right to remain silent...
and an investigation is ongoing, they said.

The bombs were found in the city's Yerwa primary school, prompting panic until soldiers destroyed the bombs from a distance.

The school was converted into a camp for Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) after Boko Haram Islamists captured the town of Bama, some 70 kilometers (43 miles) from Maiduguri, last July.

"Two improvised bombs were found in Yerwa primary school IDP camp by the people who notified soldiers stationed nearby," local vigilante Ari Butari said.

"The soldiers asked people to evacuate before shooting the bombs from a distance, triggering two kabooms that didn't harm anyone," he said.

"Two men were arrested on accusation that they were involved in planting the bombs. They drew suspicion because they were not known to be living in the camp," he added.

Butari accused Boko Haram of being behind the foiled kaboom.

His account was supported by Suleiman Yusuf, an IDP staying in the camp.

"Some people saw two abandoned black polythene bags and called the attention of our leaders in the camp who in turn informed security personnel," Yusuf said.

"The bags turned out to be containing bombs and the soldiers asked everyone to stay clear of the bombs which they detonated from a distance," he said.

He confirmed that two men were detained after raising suspicions.

"Everyone is vigilant and once a new face shows up we all remain on the alert," he said.

Scores of IDP camps dot Maiduguri following a huge influx of people fleeing towns and villages seized by Boko Haram, doubling the population of the city which stood at around one million people.

This is believed to be the first foiled attempt to attack any of the camps in the city.

The six-year-old Boko Haram insurgency has killed some 13,000 people and displaced 1.5 million in Nigeria and neighboring countries.

45 villagers killed by suspected herdsmen in central Nigeria: Police
[Al Ahram] At least 45 villagers were killed in a dawn raid Sunday by suspected herdsmen in Nigeria's central Benue state, a police front man and a politician said.

"I confirm that 45 people, including women and kiddies, were killed this morning in an attack on Egba village... of Benue state by suspected herdsmen," state police front man Austin Ezeani told AFP.

"Several others were maimed in the gun and machete attack," he added.

Hundreds of people have been killed in attacks and reprisal attacks between farmers and ethnic Fulani herdsmen in the past few years in Benue state.

A state parliamentarian from the local area, Audu Sule, gave a corpse count of about 50 from the attack.

"Around 50 people were killed in Egba village in my constituency in an early morning attack. The gunnies came in large numbers, all armed with AK47 rifles," he told AFP.

He also said women and kiddies were among those killed.

"They opened fire on the sleepy village, killing residents, including women and kiddies," Sule added.

No arrest has been made yet but police are on the trail of the attackers who fled into the bush after the deadly raid, Ezeani said.

"It was an unexpected attack, the reason for which we still do not know. The attack happened around 6.00am (0500 GMT). Policemen are on the trail of the assailants and we are hopeful to nab them," he stated.

"This area has been volatile for some time following farmers-herdsmen frequent festivities," he added.

Herdsmen and farmers in the state and neighbouring states often engage in bitter dispute over grazing rights that often result in deadly festivities.

fighters from the southern regions of Iraq's Kirkuk province and away from valuable oilfields, military officials said.

Peshmerga commanders told the Kurdish media network Rudaw that their forces were within 12 miles of Hawija, just south of the oil-rich city of Kirkuk. They said they had deployed heavy weapons and troops in the area.

Last week, Kurdish forces backed by coalition Arclight airstrikes launched a campaign that also helped clear ISIL from large tracts of territory near Kirkuk's oilfields.

ISIL Death Eaters have been fleeing north to Hawija from Tikrit, where the Iraqi Army has been conducting a joint offensive with Iranian-backed Shiite militias for two weeks.

Iraqi officers on Saturday claimed that in Tikrit a dwindling band of Islamic State Lions of Islam were in "total collapse." Iraqi government leaders predicted ISIL fighters would be driven from Tikrit within a few days.

#2  If they could get some of those M-1s back from ISIS, they could just roll into town and blast them out of their rat holes.

Just finished Stephen Ambrose's "Citizen Soldiers" and the latter chapters are almost a textbook on how to conduct urban warfare. It is pretty messy on the townscape but it does root them out and keep casualties down...it involves tanks and a willingness to blow up a building instead of assaulting it.

Perchance the destruction of property that AI is sniveling about is just good doctrinal urban warfare behavior.

group who were responsible for planning and carrying out 52 attacks in Baghdad.

It said in a statement that the operation was conducted in coordination with the security forces and the judiciary.

It "resulted in the dismantling of terrorist groups linked to what is known as Wilayat Baghdad (Baghdad province), a part of the terrorist group Daesh," the statement said, using an Arabic acronym for IS.

The intelligence service said the 31 people arrested are IS members from all parts of Baghdad, as well as areas south and north of the capital.

"They confessed to 52 terrorist acts in different areas of our beloved Baghdad in 2014 and early 2015," the statement said.

It said "large quantities of arms, (explosive) belts, silencers, rigged cars and cycle of violences, statements, videos of their cowardly operations" were seized.

The statement does not say exactly when the arrests were made but the front man for the intelligence service suggested they were last month.

"The reason for the decrease in attacks in Baghdad over the past three weeks is the arrest of this network," Fahim al-Atraqchi told AFP.

The number of attacks in Baghdad, which at one point last year used to be rocked by boom-mobiles almost every day, has dropped this year.

Troops recovered another improvised explosive planted by militants.

In Surigao del Norte's Cortes town, militants ambushed a police patrol, injuring an officer. The policemen were responding to a vehicular accident in a nearby village when NPA gunmen attacked them.

Six wounded by bomb targeting Buddhist monks
[Khao Sod] Thai police say four security officers and two civilians were wounded by a homemade bomb that targeted a group of Buddhist monks in Saiburi district of Pattani province.

A border patrol team was escorting Buddhist monks during their morning walk to collect alms when the bomb exploded. The bomb reportedly had been placed in a trash bin on the side of the road. Four police officers and two civilians were wounded by shrapnel. Police sources say they believe the bomb was planted by "violent individuals", a phrase usually used to describe the Islamic insurgents.

On the same day, two civilians were shot and wounded by unidentified assailants as they were riding a motorcycle in Pattani.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
18 Dead in Syria Regime Air Raids near Damascus
[AnNahar] At least 18 people were killed and more than 100 injured in Syrian government air strikes near the capital Damascus on Sunday, a monitor said.

The raids on the town of Douma, northeast of the capital, came as the conflict entered its fifth year and the corpse count soared over 215,000.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said government warplanes had carried out four raids on Douma, leaving women and kiddies among the injured.

The Britannia-based monitor said the toll was expected to rise because of serious injuries among the maimed.

An AFP photographer on the ground said the raids were continuing and that residents were sheltering in basements, terrified of the ongoing bombardment.

Douma lies in the opposition bastion area of Eastern Ghouta, which has been subject to massive regime aerial bombardment for months.

The area has also been under a crippling government siege for nearly two years as part of a regime bid to break the rebel hold in the region.

Rebels regularly fire missiles into the capital from the area.

Sunday marked the fourth anniversary of Syria's conflict, which began with anti-regime protests in mid-March 2011 and spiraled into a bloody war after a harsh government crackdown on demonstrators.

The Observatory said Sunday that at least 215,518 people have since been killed in the conflict.

Kurdish, Christian forces gain on ISIS in NE Syria battles
[RUDAW.NET] Kurdish fighters and Christian snuffies are making gains against the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. group in northeastern Syria, with intense festivities amid Arclight airstrikes by the U.S.-led coalition, an activist group and a Kurdish official said Saturday.

Nasser Haj Mansour, a defense official in Syria's Kurdish region, said the fighters captured the Christian village of Tal Maghas in Hassakeh province, which had been under the control of Islamic State krazed killers. Haj Mansour and the Britannia-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the village was taken overnight.

They said Arclight airstrikes by the U.S.-led coalition, the first in the area in days, were targeting Islamic State positions near Tal Tamr village, about 10 kilometers (6 miles) west of Tal Maghas. The Observatory and Haj Mansour reported intense festivities near Tal Tamr on Saturday.

The U.S. military said in a statement Saturday that an Arclight airstrike against Islamic State faceless myrmidons near the city of Hasakeh struck one tactical unit and destroyed a fighting position.

Syria's main Kurdish force, the People's Protection Units, or YPG, called Friday for air support from the U.S.-led coalition in Hassakeh province. The Islamic State group has been fighting YPG fighters and members of the Christian Syriac Military Council in Hassakeh for weeks, with dozens killed on both sides.

In the past months, U.S.-led Arclight airstrikes have helped YPG fighters push the Islamic State group out of some parts of northern Syria. Recently, weeks of Arclight airstrikes helped tip the balance against Islamic State fighters attacking the northern Syrian town of Kobani. Since then, YPG has regained full control of Kobani as well as dozens of surrounding villages.

The YPG has called on young men to join the battle, saying Islamic State group has brought in reinforcements from Syria and Iraq.

The Observatory and the Local Coordination Committees, another activist group, said government warplanes on Saturday conducted scores of air raids in different parts of Syria, killing and wounding dozens. One of the deadliest struck Douma, a rebel-held suburb of the capital Damascus, killing at least 12 people and wounding many others, the groups said.

Also Saturday, the Observatory, which has a network of activists around Syria, said a cousin of Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Supressor of the Damascenes...
was rubbed out in a dispute with an influential person in his northwestern hometown of Qardaha.

The Observatory did not give further details or name of the person who allegedly killed Mohammed Toufic Assad.

In a statement marking the beginning of the fifth year of Syria's conflict that has killed more than 220,000, U.N. refugee agency special envoy Angelina Jolie urged "governments around the world to put aside their differences and mount a new attempt to solve the conflict politically."

"I appeal for urgent steps to demonstrate that the international community is serious about accountability in Syria: to show that we will not turn a blind eye to war crimes, and that we will not fail refugees, the displaced and the survivors," she said.

Political will can lead to Iran-P5 1 nuclear deal: Zarif. Honest
[Iran Press TV] Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif says Iran and the P5+1 global powers can reach a deal over Tehran's nuclear program if the six countries show the same political will as Iran.

"In my view, if the opposite side has the same political will as the Islamic Theocratic Republic of Iran, reaching a solution will not be difficult," Zarif said upon his arrival in the Swiss city of Lausanne on Sunday.

The Iranian chief nuclear negotiator added that technical aspects and the lifting of sanctions will be the two most important issues that will be discussed in the upcoming round of talks with the P5+1.

"There are two issues that need to be highlighted in this round of talks. One is regarding the issues which have not been resolved yet or those for which there are solutions but the details of which have not been fully discussed," he said.

He said that Iran and the P5+1 countries may require more elaborated discussions about certain technical topics, adding that head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Ali Akbar Salehi and US Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz will start technical discussions on Sunday.

"The second issue pertains to the sanctions and the commitments of all parties...it should be made clear how the sanctions will be removed and what guarantees are provided for the agreement," Zarif stated.

He underscored the importance of working out a specific mechanism to make sure that all sides stick to their commitments.

Zarif said political directors of the P5+1 countries are also likely to join talks on Tuesday, noting that the negotiating sides should make efforts to put final touches on the proposed solutions as they should discuss all the proposed solutions before drafting the text of an agreement.

Terror Networks
Australian criminal group sending militants for ISIL in Syria
[Iran Press TV] A criminal group has been covertly sending would-be Lions of Islam from Australia to join the ISIL Takfiri
...an adherent of takfir wal hijra, an offshoot of Salafism that regards everybody who doesn't agree with them as apostates who must be killed...
Lions of Islam in Syria, local media reports.

A community member, a lawyer, an accountant and a "travel agent" were indicated in the report for alleged involvement in the secret operations, RT cited the Sydney Morning Herald as reporting on Sunday.

Also another person fabricated "fake international passports" for future bully boys, the report added.

The report, which was collected in accordance to freedom of information laws, contains personal information such as names , phone numbers, and the workplace of some of those involved in the case.

A police investigation revealed that one of the persons involved in the smuggling ring had previously attempted to leave the country with a large amount of money and another person had successfully managed to transfer money out of Australia through family members.

"The [Australia Federal Police] continues to investigate a number of people suspected of facilitating the travel of people to Syria, who are intending on engaging in the conflict," said a police front man.

The report came amid Australia's desperate attempts to find out how its young citizens are being recruited by Takfiri bandidos murderous Moslems in Iraq and Syria.

On Thursday, reports surfaced that authorities were investigating the ISIL's claims that an Australian teenage recruit had blown himself up in the Iraqi city of Ramadi.

On Wednesday, ISIL Takfiris released an image that purportedly shows a white four-wheel drive alongside an inset image of a teenager, who appears to be Jack Bilardi alias Abu Abdullah al-Australi, before he attacks an Iraqi army unit in the western city.

Last month, Canberra announced that nearly 100 Australians have been fighting alongside and backing terrorist groups in Iraq and Syria and have had their passports revoked.

The Takfiri Lions of Islam that control large swathes of land in Iraq and neighboring Syria, have been carrying out horrific acts of violence, including public decapitations and crucifixions, against Iraqi communities such as Shias, Sunnis, Kurds, and Christians in areas under their control.
