Shaboobs abandon strategic island you've never heard of
KISMAYO, Somalia -- Fighters from the Al-Qaeda-linked group in Somalia have withdrawn from a strategic island in Somalia as the result of advancement by Somali troops backed by the African Union forces, officials told GO on Sunday.

The loss of Kudha, an island that lies 70km south-west of Kismayo is a major setback for the Al-Shabab and serves as a resounding victory for the allied forces who recaptured the town peacefully. Al-Shabab used the island's harbor to smuggle weapons into the horn of Africa nation to build up its deadly insurgency against the African Union forces in Somalia and Somali government.

The recapture of Kudha by government forces will help the weak UN-backed government to link key towns and villages in the Jubba region as well as cutting off the transit point for the Al-Shabab's new recruits crossing over the Kenya border.
Rather makes you wonder why the AU didn't do this before...
Residents in the Island reported seeing Kenyan helicopters hovering over the area after militants' withdrawal, making reconnaissance before troops moved in.

Heavy seasonal rains that started in Somalia will have a major impact on troops' mission. Rains often cut off roads, bogging down troops progress. It's unclear if militants would be able to step up attacks during the seasonal rains.

No comments could be reached from Al-Shabab on the latest development. The regional Jubbaland forces have forced militants out of Kudha in October last year, however, Al-Shabab struck back, recapturing the island in November 2015.

Most of the Kudha residents' livelihood is dependent on fishing, exporting fish to Kenya by sea.

#1  Uh, uh, Guam's COCOS ISLAND, as ala WORLDNEWS.COM PIC the PLA already has dibs on Guam's Camel Rock???

All humor aside, as per 1960's-1970's GUAM TAOTAMONAS, whom knew about GWCC + Rising China + Texas-sized Asteroids , etc. many years or decades before these were same, I've been shown the "white ships" of the PLAN patrolling off Guam, as well as Armed Muslim Jihadis in the Marianas.

THE TIME TO CHANGE THE FUTURE IS NOW, OR YESTERDAY = BETTER LATE THAN NEVAR!, BUT IT APPEARS THAT GLOBALIST POTUS OBAMA IS WORKING FOR THE OTHER/OPPOSITE DIRECTION, i.e. a future time when the Pacific-n-World-retreating US will sink Guam + strategic Pacific islands inorder to deny utility to China + other MilPol rivals???

GLOBALISM OR NO GLOBALISM, THE "GREAT GAME" DOESN'T END.

LNA reports to have taken Azizia and Zahra from Libya Dawn; Salah Badi and Khaled Sharif deny it
[Libya Herald] Following yesterday's reported advances between Ghariyan and Aziziya by Libya National Army forces, it is claimed that they have taken the Warshefana towns of Aziziya and Zahra today from Libya Dawn
...aka Fajr Libya, the Islamist operation launched to counter that of General Khalifa Haftar (Operation Dignity). It is made up of the Libya Shield militia (Misrata and Moslem Brotherhood), Libya Revolutionaries Operations Room (Moslem Brotherhood), and Tripoli Brigade (close to Abdul Hakim Belhaj, head of Al-Watan party). Financing and moral support come from Turkey and Qatar...
. The latter's fighters are said to have left earlier. One report claims that LNA forces are now within 20 kilometres of Qasr Ben Gashir and Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
's destroyed international airport.

However,
ars longa, vita brevis...
both Salah Badi
...a Misrata militia commander, self-appointed colonel and a member of the Wafa Islamist bloc. He was cashiered from the Libyan army in 1992 because he was nuts...
, the Libya Dawn commander from Misrata, and former deputy interior minister Khaled Sharif have both gone on TV to deny the claims. Speaking on Al-Nabaa TV, which strongly supports Dawn, Badi said he was in Aziziya but also said said that his forces were kicking the LNA out of the town. Gunfire could be heard in the background while he was speaking by phone to the channel.

For his part, Sharif, said to be a member of the Moslem Brüderbund, likewise insisted that the LNA's claims were false and that life was normal in Tripoli. However,
ars longa, vita brevis...
it was possible that there were some LNA sleeper cells in and around the capital, he conceded, adding that some LNA fighters had been incarcerated
Don't shoot, coppers! I'm comin' out!
Pro-Dawn media meanwhile claim that although LNA forces attempted to move towards Tripoli this morning, they were beaten back and that LD forces are now within nine kilometres from Wattiya airbase.

Zintani commander Abubakr Al-Ejami, in charge of the unit holding Saif Al-Islam Qadaffy, has added to the confusion with a claim this afternoon that LNA forces are within striking distance of Tripoli International Airport and that they will enter the capital within two days.

In the city itself, Libya Dawn checkpoints appear to have vanished, although this could be connected to the fact that it is Friday. However,
ars longa, vita brevis...
a Libya Dawn convoy, allegedly Misratan, was seen on the Tripoli Highway this afternoon heading towards Misrata. The city is very quiet at the moment although occasional distant heavy artillery fire can be heard.

Despite claims last night that the LNA would enter Zawia, there appears to have been no such move. However,
ars longa, vita brevis...
there are reports of festivities in the town between the Farouq Brigade, which is part of Libya Dawn, and local youths allegedly supporting Operation Dignity.

Meanwhile a statement from Ghariyan elders is said to be expected this evening. There are unconfirmed reports that the mountain town is now surrounded by LNA forces.

Yemen: Victims of ISIS
Last Friday, terrorists who claimed to be affiliated with the Islamic State (ISIS) targeted two mosques affiliated with the Shiite Houthi rebel movement which has taken over the capital of Yemen, Sanaa.

The attacks, carried out by suicide bombers during the rush for Friday prayers, killed 137 people and injured 345 others, according to Al-Jazeera.

...One of the mosques targeted was the Al-Hashoush Mosque. According to video footage posted to the internet and translated by the Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI), the worshippers at the mosque were cursing Jews and wishing death upon Israel just as the suicide bomber detonated his explosive device.

Arutz Sheva chose not to present the video here due to its graphic nature.

The preacher is shown saying in the video, "Our belief in Allah will increase after today. We will triumph over their deceit and their arrogance. Allah is with us..."

The worshippers respond by chanting, "Death to America. Death to Israel. Curse upon the Jews. Victory to Islam. Allah Akbar. Death to America. Death to Israel. Curse upon the Jews. Victory to..."

An arrow on-screen then points to a man walking through the crowd, a bomb goes off and worshippers cry out.

Yemeni president declares Aden provisional capital
[NEWS.XINHUANET] A senior UN official on Sunday told the UN Security Council that Yemeni President Abdo Rabbo Mansour Hadi has arrived in Aden, the second biggest city of the country, and declared the city the provisional Yemeni capital, after his residence was targeted in Arclight airstrikes.

UN Special Adviser Jamal Benomar made the statement as he was briefing the council via a video link from Doha, capital of Qatar
...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates...
, at an emergency council meeting at the request of the Yemeni president.

Hadi and his government have made Aden, the port city, their provisional capital, Benomar said.

Also at the council meeting, the Yemeni representative told the Security Council that rebel bandidos holy warriors staged a coup against the constitutionally elected president after their occupation of the capital Sanaa.

In his first speech since fleeing Sanaa, the president denounced on Saturday the rebel occupation as "a coup against constitutional legitimacy" and declared Aden as the country's " temporary capital".

Huthis Seize Airport in Key Yemeni City
[AnNahar] Shiite militia in Yemen seized the airport in a key central city Sunday as deteriorating security prompted Washington to evacuate personnel and the U.N. Security Council to call an emergency session.

The Security Council was to meet later Sunday after President Abedrabbo Mansour Hadi called for "urgent intervention" amid mounting unrest, including suicide kabooms claimed by the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. group that killed 142 people in the capital Sanaa on Friday.

Impoverished but strategic Yemen has descended into chaos in recent months, with the Shiite militia, known as Huthis, seizing control of Sanaa and forcing Hadi to flee to the main southern city of Aden.

The Arabian Peninsula country is increasingly divided between a north controlled by the Huthis, who are allegedly backed by Iran, and a south dominated by Hadi's allies.

On Sunday the Huthis and their allies seized the airport in Taez, which is just 180 kilometers (110 miles) north of Aden on the road to Sanaa and seen as a strategic entry point to Hadi's refuge.

Security sources told Agence La Belle France-Presse some 300 men, including Huthi fighters dressed in military uniforms and allied forces, had deployed at the airport and reinforcements were arriving from Sanaa by air and land.

The forces allied with the Huthis included members of the former central security force, a unit seen as loyal to ex-president President-for-Life Ali Abdullah Saleh
... Saleh initially took power as a strongman of North Yemen in 1977, when disco was in flower, but he didn't invite Donna Summer to the inauguration and Blondie couldn't make it...
Saleh was forced from power in early 2012 after a year-long popular uprising and has been accused of working with the Huthis to restore his influence.

- Protester killed -
Security sources said Huthi bandidos turbans were also patrolling parts of Taez and had set up checkpoints in Raheda, some 80 kilometers south of the city on the road to Aden.

A military source said troops loyal to Hadi and southern paramilitary forces had meanwhile deployed in restive Lahj
... a Yemeni governate located in the southwestern corner of the Arabian Peninsula. It is the stomping grounds on the southern secessionist al-Harak movement
province north of Aden, in anticipation of a possible Huthi advance.

Huthi bandidos turbans killed one protester in Taez when they opened fire to disperse thousands of people demanding that the rebels withdraw, activists said.

Elsewhere, six rustics were killed in Qania, in Marib province, in a clash with Huthis advancing towards the eastern province, a tribal source said. The source claimed that 30 bandidos turbans were killed.

AFP could not verify the corpse counts with an independent source.

Hadi, backed by Western and Gulf states as Yemen's legitimate ruler, has struggled to reassert his authority since escaping house arrest in Sanaa last month and fleeing to Aden.

In a letter to the Security Council, he said the Huthis and their allies "not only threaten peace in Yemen but regional and international peace and security."

He called for "urgent intervention by all available means to stop this aggression that is aimed at undermining the legitimate authority, the fragmentation of Yemen and its peace and stability."

Hadi has been trying to cement his power base in Aden which he declared the temporary capital after he retracted a resignation tendered under Huthi pressure.

- Iranian influence -
On Thursday, his forces overran the special forces base in Aden after its commander rejected Hadi's decision to remove him.

On Saturday he pledged to fight Iranian influence in Yemen, accusing the Huthis of importing Tehran's ideology.

Hadi said he would ensure that "the Yemeni republic flag will fly on the Marran mountain in (the Huthis' northern stronghold) Saada, instead of the Iranian flag."

Yemen: Taiz seized by Houthis
[BBC] Yemen's third largest city Taiz and its airport have been seized by Shia Houthi
...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The Yemeni government has accused the Houthis of having ties to the Iranian government, which wouldn't suprise most of us. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to America™, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews ...
rebels, officials say.

Residents erupted into the streets in protest and one was killed as the rebels fired on them and used tear gas.

The faceless myrmidons already hold the capital, Sanaa, after overthrowing President Abdrabbuh Mansour Hadi in February. He fled to Aden in the south.

Instability has been growing in Yemen, where al-Qaeda and Islamic State

sympathisers also pose a threat.

On Saturday, the US said it was withdrawing its troops from the country due to the worsening security situation.

The US evacuated a southern military base seen as key to its use of drones against al-Qaeda holy warriors.

Tanks
Dozens of tanks and military vehicles were reported to be heading from north Yemen towards Taiz, which lies between Sanaa and Aden.

The seizure of the Taiz brings the Houthis to within 140km (86 miles) of President Hadi's new base in Aden - a southern port city.

The UN Security Council is holding an emergency meeting on Yemen's security situation on Sunday.

The Foreign Office said it was providing consular assistance to their families.

Army claims killing 80 militants in Tirah
[DAWN] Fierce festivities between security forces and snuffies in parts of Khyber Agency's Tirah Valley on Saturday resulted in heavy casualties on both sides. There was no let-up in the fighting when this report was filed.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), at least 80 snuffies were eliminated in the operation in Khyber Agency. It said seven soldiers also bit the dust during the operation.

An official said that security forces had suffered casualties in Operation Khyber-II. He said one army major was among the injured.

The bodies of soldiers were shifted to the Combined Military Hospital in Beautiful Downtown Peshawar

(LI), Salahuddin Ayubi, told journalists on phone that bodies of 11 soldiers were in the custody of his group.

He said the soldiers were killed during a ground offensive launched by security forces to take control of the LI stronghold in Sipah area.

The LI has recently announced merger with the banned Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistain (TTP).

According to sources, at least 20 soldiers were either killed or maimed in the ongoing shootout in Tirah.

They said the fighting was raging between security forces and snuffies for control of an important ridge that overlooked the entire valley and adjacent areas of Afghanistan. Reinforcements have been dispatched to the embattled area.

The ridge had fallen to security forces on Friday, which snuffies claimed in a statement that they had recaptured. They said they had repulsed the offensive of security forces and that the fighting was still going on.

ISPR Director General Maj Gen Asim Bajwa said in a twitter message that the Khyber-II operation had been launched to clear areas further ahead, close to Pakistain-Afghan border.

He claimed that security forces had made steady progress.

Maj Gen Bajwa said snuffies suffered heavy losses and they were being dislodged from hideouts. So far, he added, 80 forces of Evil had been killed and approximately 100 others injured.

(IS/ISIS) were able to take control of the villages of al-Hanita and Sheikh Hilal near the city of Salamiya in the northeastern countryside of the province of Hamah in central Syria, .

The festivities caused blockage of the road of Salamiya-Aleppo for days.

"The two villages were under the control of pro-regime Popular Defense Committees and allied Shiite militias. The IS group tried to control the highway of Salamiya-Raqqa," an activist told ARA News on the condition of anonymity.

The source pointed out that the IS gunnies took control of the Syrian regime battalions of Zor as-Sous and al-Kafat near Salamiya, killing more than 60 pro-Assad gunnies as well as seizing a great deal of weapons after two suicide kabooms.

Speaking to ARA News in Salamiya, civil rights activist Yusuf al-Bakri said that Salamiya's National Hospital received 16 dead of the regime's forces, including commanding officers who were killed in the festivities of Sheikh Hilal.

On the other hand, Tayseer Hassan, a dissident from the Syrian regime army, confirmed that units of the Syrian army in Hamah cut off the highway of Salamiya-Athraya which leads to the city of Aleppo, following fierce festivities between the army forces and the IS group near Sheikh Hilal.

"The Syrian Arab Army was able to regain many strategic points in the area within 60 minutes and re-open the way for passengers from and to the city of Aleppo," Hassan told ARA News.

The city of Salamiya is about 33km away from Hamah to the northeast and it is under the regime's control. Since nearly a year ago, the Syrian army has withdrawn from the checkpoints of the city as well as from the eastern countryside, but the area has remained under the control of the pro-regime National Defense Army and Popular Defense Committees' militias.

group (IS/ISIS) were reportedly killed in an attack by rebels of the Hayzoom Unit (linked to the Army of Islam) in the city of Shaddadi (60 km south of Hasakah), in northeastern Syria, military forces reported Saturday.
Who's Shadaddi?
The military operation, described by the rebels as "strategic", targeted a security checkpoint of the Islamic State in eastern Shaddadi, where a group of military commanders from the radical group were holding a meeting.

The targeted checkpoint is considered the most highly equipped IS-led checkpoints in northeastern Syria.

Speaking to ARA News, Khalil al-Hamidi, a local from Shaddadi, said that the attack led to the killing of Abu Mohammed al-Janoubi, "Emir of al-Qate' ash-Sharqi" (prince of east Shaddadi), and the injury of Abu Mahmoud ar-Raqqawi, head of the security apparatus in the eastern areas (ah-Sharqiya).

"The attack also caused the injury of a number of IS Death Eaters; of which some injuries are critical," the source added.

"Hasakah's IS-linked alderman, Abu Osama al-Iraqi, announced a reward of one million Syrian pounds and a Kalashnikov for anyone who provides him with information about the members of these sleeper cells (in reference to the rebel fighters of the Hayzoom Unit)," the source told ARA News.

The IS group launched a campaign of arrests in the village of Hariri near the city of Shaddadi, looking for suspects and to collect information about the attackers.

Front (Syria's branch of al-Qaeda) since more than one year ago. The group took Shaddadi as major center in the "State of al-Barakah" (in reference to the province of Hasakah).

Kurdish joint forces deter ISIS-led attack south of Kobane, kill 15 militants
[ARA] On Saturday, military sources reported that festivities broke out between the Kurdish joint forces (People's Protection Units "YPG", Peshmerga and FSA) and Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. group (IS/ISIS) in the southern countryside of Kobane, in the province of Aleppo, northern Syria.

Meanwhile,
...back at the alley, Slats Chumbaloni was staring into a hole that was just .45 inch in diameter and was less than three feet from his face ...
the U.S.-led international coalition's warplanes launched several raids on locations of the Islamic State group (IS/ISIS) in the eastern fighting front.

Speaking to ARA News on the phone, Noureddin Gaban, fighter in the ranks of the YPG, said that fierce festivities broke out and continued until Saturday evening in the vicinity of the village of al-Sunu and the Serrin's junction south of Kobane, after an IS-led attack to regain the areas seized by the joint forces.

Gaban confirmed the death of 15 bandidos bully boyz of the radical group during the festivities, adding that the joint forces seized quantities of weapons and ammunition.

The source added that sporadic festivities continued between the two parties since Friday in the vicinity of the village of Akbash, in southeastern Kobane, and pointed out that at least four IS hard boyz were killed during the festivities near Akbash.

In the meantime, field sources in the eastern front of Kobane's countryside reported that the U.S.-led international coalition's warplanes launched on Saturday afternoon several Arclight airstrikes against locations of the group in the vicinity of the village of al-Jirin (administratively linked to the city of Tel Abyad).

ARA News could not verify the exact numbers of casualties in the jihadists' ranks.

Noteworthy, the western front of Kobane has been almost completely quiet after the control of the joint forces on the town of al-Shuyoukh, and the IS bombing of the bridge linking the town with the city of Jarablus in the northern countryside of Aleppo on the Syrian-Turkish border.

ISIL claims bloody attacks on Kurds, regime in Syria

of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) has grabbed credit for a series of attacks across Syria that left dead dozens of people, in an announcement on its radio station.

In the message broadcast Saturday on Al-Bayan radio, ISIL said it was behind kabooms targeting Kurdish new year festivities in northeast Syria and raids on government positions in the central province of Hama.

Forty-five people, including at least 12 children, were killed in twin bombings in the northeastern city of Hasakeh on Friday as they marked their new year's eve, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.

Observatory head Rami Abdel Rahman said people were too scared to celebrate on Saturday, fearing more attacks.

The ISIL radio station said the group detonated a car and a bike rigged with explosives in Hasakeh city, which is controlled by Kurdish fighters and Syrian regime forces.

The attacks, which took place on the bloodiest day in Syria so far this year, were widely condemned.

"Committing these barbaric crimes on this day, which amounts to a national holiday in Syria, shows that the killers have no link to the Syrian people or to their values. In fact, they lie in wait for Syrians," said the Syrian National Council, the largest bloc in the opposition National Coalition.

"This description applies to the regime of (President Bashar) al-Assad and to the Lion of Islam terrorist organizations it has produced," it said.

Syria's foreign ministry sent letters to UN Secretary General the ephemeral Ban Ki-moon
... of whom it can be said to his credit that he is not Kofi Annan...
and the president of the UN Security Council calling for "steps to deter terrorist organizations and their funders".

No doubt when their coreligionists shoot them down for being insufficiently devout, their last curses will be at the Jews.

In Syria, three strikes near the city of Kobani hit an Islamic State tactical unit, vehicles and fighting positions in a 24-hour period that ended early Sunday. Another raid near Raqqah destroyed an armored personnel carrier, the task force said in a statement.
