Kenyan campus attack
[DAWN] THE list of depredations carried out by religious bully boyz grew ever longer on Thursday.

This time in Kenya, where gunnies belonging to the Somalia-based terrorist group Al-Shabaab
... Somalia's version of the Taliban, functioning as an arm of al-Qaeda...
massacred at least 147 people, mainly students, at the Garissa University campus during a 15 hour-long siege, the worst ever attack on Kenyan soil since the 1998 bombing of the US embassy in Nairobi.

The town of Garissa lies almost 200km from the border with Somalia, and the attack is the latest act of retaliation carried out by the Al-Shabaab against a joint Somali-Kenyan military operation to destroy the Al Qaeda-linked group.

For Paks, the atrocity bore a chilling resemblance to the APS Beautiful Downtown Peshawar
...capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (formerly known as the North-West Frontier Province), administrative and economic hub for the Federally Administered Tribal Areas of Pakistan. Peshawar is situated near the eastern end of the Khyber Pass, convenient to the Pak-Afghan border. Peshawar has evolved into one of Pakistan's most ethnically and linguistically diverse cities, which means lots of gunfire.
attack less than four months ago.

Around the same number of students and teachers were murdered that day by snuffies of the banned Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistain who went from classroom to classroom hunting down unarmed children, leaving behind a trail of blood on scattered schoolbooks, devastated families and a nation in mourning.

Earlier, even among the most violent of ideologically driven groups there were some red lines. Now, however, the distinction between combatants and innocents is increasingly blurred.

Nothing is sacred, not even children or young people studying in schools and colleges. In fact, students and/or educational infrastructure -- not to mention other soft targets -- are increasingly being targeted by terrorists, whether by Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
in Nigeria or the TTP in Pakistain.

A worldview more twisted and nihilistic can scarcely be imagined. There was another sinister element to the attack in Garissa, one that is common to several recent acts of terrorism by Al-Shabaab in Kenya.

The campus attackers singled out Christians for murder, a move calculated to drive a wedge between the country's vast Christian majority and its sizeable Moslem minority.

It would be doubly unfortunate were such intentions to bear fruit, for nothing would suit religious bully boyz more than a world riven along the lines of faith and engaged in a never-ending, apocalyptic battle.

Somalia calls for closer security ties after Kenya massacre
Garissa, Kenya -- Somalia and Kenya must boost security cooperation between them, Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud said Friday, as he offered his condolences a day after "barbaric" Islamist gunmen massacred 147 students.
This assumes that the Kenyans want more ties with you. I suspect they want rather less...
Mohamud said he mourned the "lives of innocent students" killed in the university in the northeastern Kenyan town of Garissa, offering his "condolences to the families of those who have died in this attack by the merciless terrorists."

Masked gunmen from Somalia's Shebab Islamist group killed the Kenyan students Thursday in a day-long college campus siege, the country's deadliest attack since the 1998 US embassy bombings. All four of the gunmen wore suicide vests packed with explosives, detonating themselves in huge blasts as the dramatic assault finally ended after some 16 hours.

The attack was claimed by Al-Qaeda-linked Shebab fighters, the same insurgents who carried out the Westgate shopping mall massacre in Nairobi in September 2013, when four gunmen killed at least 67 people in a four-day siege.

Shebab spokesman Sheikh Ali Mohamud Rage told AFP the gunmen had taken non-Muslims hostage, and that their mission had been "to kill those who are against the Shebab."

Al-Muhajiroun An Affiliate Of Al-Shabaab Conducted Garissa Campus Attack
[Intel Briefs] On April 1st 2015, Al-Muhajiroun
...formerly Omar Bakri Muhammad's spin off group from Hizb ut-Tahririn Britain, where the detestable lunatic Anjem Chaudry got his start. More recently the name adopted by al-Qaeda in East Africa for operations in Kenya and Tanzania. It is subordinate to al-Shabaab but will probably be strong enough to fly on its own, given an uninterrupted flow of petrodollars, should the Shaboobs collapse....
, an affiliate of the Somali militant Islamist group Harakat al-Shabaab al-Mujahideen
... the Islamic version of the old Somali warlord...
gave hint of them conducting high-profile mass-casualty operations in northeast Kenya.

Al-Muhajiroun which postures as one solely tasked to take over Al-Qaeda activities in Kenya and Tanzania warned that they would light all East Africa with a high intensity attack on the eve of the attack.

Al-Muhajiroun posted that “A spark has been lit all over East Africa, and its intensity will reverberate around the region until the disbelievers are perished.”

On 31st of March, the group attempted to stop the attack. Al-Muhajiroun seemed aware of memos circulated by Kenyan universities about impending attacks.

On that day, the group wrote on its social media ” tunaomba Mujahideen hapo Afrika Mashariki wa subiri” translated as “We ask our East African brothers to wait”

The group was formed by elements close to Al-Shabaab commander Muhamed Kuno aka Dulyadeen-Gamadheere, a man wanted by Kenya authorities, under Gamadheere’s instructions.

Relevancy of Al-Muhajiroun to Somali militant Islamist group Harakat al-Shabaab al-Mujahideen.

Al-Muhajiroun has been conducting recruitment of professionals. The group was involved in the recruitment of the three female university students arrested crossing to Somalia by Kenya Security Forces.

This group is the replacement for groups like Al-Hijra which have been losing clout as jihadists. Al-Qaeda is actually seeking to better its defense against ISIS which seeks to establish ties and networks with East African jihadists.

Rival Libyan forces clash near Tripoli
[al-Monitor] Clashes between Libyan government forces and Islamist-backed Lions of Islam on Friday killed four Lion of Islams, a security source said, and one person died in a mortar attack on Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
's only functioning airport.

The fighting broke out when gunnies launched an assault on the edges of Aziziya, a town just 35 kilometres (22 miles) south of Tripoli, the source said.

Four people were killed and 11 maimed, the source told AFP.

Libya's capital was seized by the Islamist-backed Fajr Libya ("Libya Dawn
...aka Fajr Libya, the Islamist operation launched to counter that of General Khalifa Haftar (Operation Dignity). It is made up of the Libya Shield militia (Misrata and Moslem Brotherhood), Libya Revolutionaries Operations Room (Moslem Brotherhood), and Tripoli Brigade (close to Abdul Hakim Belhaj, head of Al-Watan party). Financing and moral support come from Turkey and Qatar...
") group last August.

Fajr Libya is an alliance of militias, including Islamists, who have installed a government in Tripoli opposed to the internationally recognised legislature and cabinet based in the east.

The recognised government said two weeks ago that loyalist forces had launched an offensive to "liberate" Tripoli and its suburbs, and Fajr Libya reported that a group of gunnies had infiltrated Aziziya.

As Friday's fighting began, Tripoli's Mitiga airport was hit by a mortar round that killed an airport employee, a source there told AFP, adding that it was not known who fired the round.

"The mortar.... struck a bus transporting three airport employees, killing one and wounding another," the source said, adding that an aircraft carrying medical equipment that was parked on the apron at the time was spared.

Mitiga is a military airfield now used by civilian traffic also after Tripoli's international airport was seriously damaged in last summer's battle for control of the capital.

It is the only airport still functioning in the city and falls under the jurisdiction of the government installed by Fajr Libya last year.

Also on Friday, the Islamic State

group claimed it was behind bomb and mort ar attacks on Fajr Libya south of the central city of Sirte on the coast.

The claim came as Battalion 166, part of the Fajr Libya alliance, said its forces had killed six IS members southeast of Sirte after two of its men were maimed by mines planted by the jihadists in the area.

Somali Militants Vow to Turn Kenyan Cities ˜Red with Blood'
[Breitbart] - Somali militants vowed on Saturday to wage a long war against Kenya and run its cities "red with blood" after the group's fighters killed nearly 150 people during an assault on a Kenyan university.

In the worst bloodshed in Kenya in nearly two decades, four al Shabaab gunmen went on a killing spree on Thursday, hunting down and executing students in a campus in Garissa, a northeastern town 200 km (120 miles) from the Somali border.

The raid has put Kenya on heightened alert and spooked Christian congregations, who were horrified by survivor testimonies recalling how the Islamist militants had sought out Christians to take hostage and kill, while sparing some Muslims.

In the message directed at the Kenyan public, the al Qaeda aligned group said the raid was retribution for Kenya's military presence in Somalia and mistreatment of Muslims within Kenya.

"No amount of precaution or safety measures will be able to guarantee your safety, thwart another attack or prevent another bloodbath from occurring in your cities," the group said in an emailed statement received by Reuters in the Somali capital.

Arabia
Saudi airstrikes against Yemen a historic first
[al-Monitor] On March 25, tribal gunnies loyal to Yemen's Houthis, along with Yemeni military forces, tightened their siege on the southern city of Aden, which President Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi declared as a temporary capital after he fled there from Sanaa more than six weeks ago.

Two weeks earlier, Houthi

(AQAP) and the army; and the six wars between 2004 and 2009 in Saada between the Houthis and the government. Yet, March 26 was a defining moment in Yemen's modern history, as Sanaa residents woke up to the sounds of continuing Arclight airstrikes.

The Houthi threat against Saudi Arabia has increased. Saudi Arabia considers the Houthis an extension of its traditional foe, Iran. Yemen's legitimate president became trapped in Aden after escaping from a monthlong house arrest imposed by the Houthis, who surrounded his house in Sanaa. He escaped Feb. 21, the third anniversary of the referendum that made him president. If Aden falls into the hands of Ansar Allah, the Houthis would effectively tighten their control over the country's key locations, especially Aden's international airport and the Bab al-Mandeb strait. The fall of Aden is considered a threat to one of the largest oil routes in the world and would affect the global oil economy.

The Houthis' military progress from their northern stronghold has been an unprecedented source of concern for Riyadh since mid-2014. That concern culminated in September 2014, when the Houthis tightened their grip on Sanaa, whereby the army and security establishments came under their direct control.

On March 21, high-ranking Saudi security officials met with representatives from other Gulf countries in Saudi Arabia. This meeting seems to have put the finishing touches on a secret operation being prepared against Yemen. This meeting took place nearly two weeks after the Houthis, in conjunction with pro-Houthi army units, conducted a military exercise with live ammunition and heavy weapons on Saudi Arabia's border.

The Saudi-led military operation against the Houthis in Yemen, known as Operation Decisive Storm, started by bombing quality targets that paralyzed Yemeni air defenses. About 185 modern military aircraft, mostly Saudi Arabian, destroyed military targets, most notably the air bases of al-Dailami and al-Adan. They also destroyed weapons stores in Sanaa and Saada, as well as camps for special forces and reserve forces loyal to former President President-for-Life Ali Abdullah Saleh

Uphill battle trying to save young jihadis from themselves in Dagestan
Sevil , the head of the Center for Countering Extremism in Dagestan knows her job well. Even the most senior Russian security experts respect her opinion on methods and tactics "to bring home the boys and girls" of Russia. But sometimes Navruzova feels she is "facing a black wall," and losing her fight against the recruitment of Russians to join the Islamic State.

Russian special services and Navruzova's center are mainly concerned about three destinations for Dagestani Muslims: Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan. Others are inspired to attack in other venues, like the Tsarnaev brothers, whose roots were in Dagestan, and who allegedly carried out the Boston Marathon bombings in 2013.

"Insane propaganda" on the Internet is the main source of recruitment information, Navruzova said. Instructions tell them where to go and how to get the money for the trip. She said, "The drain of youth is massive, it amounts to hundreds from Dagestan alone."

Navruzova said, "This is not just a popular trend, this is a lifestyle. Many in the Muslim community live day and night with the idea of joining the war not for the sake of money but for pure hope to live for once in Sharia World. Recruiters say that the entire Muslim world has to be involved in the war now."

four Russian citizens in the state of Gaziantep, south of the country, who were apparently planning to cross into Syria.

A statement released by the Media Office in the state of Gaziantep said that the four Russians were arrested trying to cross into Turkish territory illegally.

"The detainees were transferred to the foreign office of the Turkish police to be deported from the country."

On Wednesday, the Turkish authorities arrested nine Britons, who were planning to cross the border into Syria, according to a statement of the General Staff of the Turkish army, who declared that the operation took place in the province of Hatay, south of the country.

Speaking to ARA News, Turkish journalist Burhan Yildiz said that high-level coordination was reached recently between the British and Turkish authorities. "This was apparent when many British citizens were stopped in several airports and border points across The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
"They were prevented from entering Syrian territory," he added.

Philadelphia Woman Charged on Syria Terror Link
[AnNahar] A 30-year-old woman from Philadelphia was charged Friday with attempting to join Lions of Islam in Syria, the second Syria-linked terror case involving U.S. women announced by prosecutors in days.

Keonna Thomas, 30, was charged with attempting to provide material support to a terrorist organization after allegedly posting more than a year of tweets in support of the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(IS) group.

If convicted, she faces up to 15 years in prison.

After posting the stream of alarming tweets from August 2013 to December 2014, she applied for a U.S. passport and intended to travel to Syria through Spain and The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
, prosecutors said.

Having applied for the passport in February, she emailed a radical holy man in Jamaica saying she had deactivated her Twitter account until leaving for Syria to avoid attention, they added.

Among her disturbing tweets was one last December. Next to the picture of an armed child she wrote: "I wouldn't be pleased till I became soldier of the Islamic State."

Under FBI surveillance, she allegedly emailed an IS holy warrior based in the group's stronghold of Raqqa in northern Syria.

In February she allegedly wrote to him that it "would be amazing" to carry out a suicide kaboom, adding that "a girl can only wish," court papers show.

She allegedly bought a visa for Turkey and searched the Internet for indirect travel routes to the country, the most common transit point into Syria for Western recruits to IS.

Prosecutors say she bought an airline ticket from Philadelphia to Barcelona intending to fly on March 29.

U.S. intelligence officials warned in February that more than 20,000 volunteers from around the world, including more than 150 Americans, had gone to Syria to link up with holy warriors.
Ynet adds:
Keonna Thomas, also known as Fatayat Al Khilafah and YoungLioness, was charged with trying to provide material support and resources, including herself as a fighter, to a foreign terrorist organization, the department said. Prosecutors allege that Thomas communicated with an Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. Army chief endorses military courts' death verdicts
[DAWN] The army said on Thursday that its chief Gen Raheel Sharif had ratified death sentence awarded to six Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistain (TTP) murderous Moslems by military courts.

"Army Chief confirms death sentence of six hardcore turbans tried by the recently established military courts," military front man Maj Gen Asim Bajwa said in a twitter posting.

This is the first batch of turbans sentenced by the military courts. The military, however, did not disclose when the sentencing was done and in which case.

Seven 'terrorists' affiliated with the TTP had been tried by the military courts in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa
... formerly NWFP, still Terrorism Central...
and six of them were given death sentence while the seventh was sentenced to life imprisonment.

Those awarded death penalty were identified as Noor Saeed, Haider Ali, Murad Khan, Inayatullah, Israruddin and Qari Zahir. A convict identified by single name of Abbas got life sentence. Most of these turbans are at present detained in internment centres in tribal areas established under Actions in Aid of Civil Power Regulations, 2011.

Although there was no mention of the terrorism incident in which the convicts were involved, the ISPR only disclosed the charges under which they had been tried.

"Seven hardcore turbans were involved in committing heinous offences relating to terrorism, manslaughter, suicide kaboom, abduction for ransom and colossal damage to life and property," it said.

The death and life sentences for the convicts were because "of the nature and gravity of offences" committed by them, the military's public affairs division said. The convicts, it said, had the right to appeal before a military court of appeals.

Coordinated bombings rock Pattani
[Bangkok Post] Four explosions shook Pattani province early Thursday, causing extensive damage to vehicles and shops. The bombings appeared to be coordinated, all happening at around 2 a.m.

The first three blasts happened in a downtown area. The fourth was further from the commercial heart of Muang district. The explosions were followed by a 30-minute power blackout in the area.

According to witnesses, the bombs were placed separately by two men on motorcycles. In the first three explosions, the bomb was packed in a gas cylinder. In the fourth blast, the device was planted in a pipe and strapped to a telegraph pole. The bombings may have been retaliation for the killings of four militants in a clash with security officers on March 25, police speculated.

Meanwhile, two unidentified men were gunned down in Narathiwat province, also on Thursday morning. Witnesses said the men had gone hunting in a nearby forest. They were returning to the village with a boar they had shot when they were attacked. Both of the men died on the spot.

Qaeda advances on Syria army base near Idlib: monitor
[al-Monitor] Fighters from Al-Qaeda's Syrian affiliate and allied hard boyz advanced Friday on a key government-held military base in northwestern Idlib province, a monitor said.

The advance follows the capture of bustling provincial capital Idlib by Al-Nusra
...the current nom de guerre of al-Qaeda in the Levant, which isn't to be confused with al-Qaeda in Iraq and the Levant...
Front and its allies on Saturday.

"Violent festivities have been underway since Thursday night between the army and Al-Nusra and its allies... around the Mastuma base," the Britannia-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.

The base, seven kilometres (four miles) south of Idlib city, is the biggest regime base in the province, said Observatory director Rami Abdul Rahman.

The opposition groups had launched a "preventative attack on the base" where regime reinforcements were arriving ahead of a possible bid to recapture Idlib city, he said.

The Observatory added that festivities were underway between the Islamist forces and government troops in the area around the Shiite-majority village of Fuaa.

With the fall of Idlib city, regime forces in the province control only two towns and a handful of districts, along with the Abu Duhur military airport and five military bases.

group have pushed further into the Paleostinian Yarmuk camp in Damascus and now control 70 percent it, according to the Observatory.

IS launched an assault Wednesday on the camp, after Paleostinian groups inside enjugged

several jihadists.

Paleostinian fighters and Syrian rebels initially pushed back the IS assault but the jihadist counter-attacked and have made fresh advances since Thursday inside the camp.

They have reportedly captured a square where the camp's 18,000 residents usually gather to receive aid handouts.

The UN agency for Paleostinian refugees UNRWA e xpressed concern about the situation, saying it had been unable to deliver aid to the camp since Wednesday.

"UNRWA remains acutely anxious about the humanitarian impact of continuing armed conflict between gangs inside Yarmuk," front man Chris Gunness said.

"With intense fighting continuing into a third day, the lives and safety of the 18,000 Paleostinian and Syrian civilians inside Yarmouk are substantially threatened."

The Observatory said government forces were shelling parts of Yarmuk intensively while Paleostinian fighters battling IS hard boyz were running low on ammunition.

Yarmuk has been under government siege for more than a year.

But Syrian state media said the camp was under "the control of terrorist groups", adding that there had been no army presence in Yarmuk "for a long time". It gave no further details.
