Another Blast In Kabul City Near AG's Office
[ToloNews] Yet another blast was reported in Kabul city in Police District 6, near the Attorney General's Office, early Wednesday morning -- bringing the total number in the past two weeks to three.

According to a local security official, a magnetic bomb was placed on a police vehicle that was parked near the AG's Office by unknown persons.

Security officials said there were no casualties. However,
Switzerland makes more than cheese...
an eyewitness said the vehicle had been driven to the area by gunnies who then left and detonated their explosives remotely.

No krazed killer group including the Taliban has yet grabbed credit.

This follows Sunday's attack in the same area when a jacket wallah detonated explosives. The target was a mini bus transporting staff from the Attorney General's Office. Three people were killed in the attack and at least 18 injured.

Last week, the same AG's office was also the target of a suicide kaboom which resulted in the deaths of two civilians.

These back-to-back attacks aimed at public prosecutors prompted calls earlier this week among members of the legal community for the Attorney General's office to close its doors until action is taken to ensure the safety of its employees.

In less than two weeks, two suicide kabooms -- and now a third blast -- has targeted convoys of prosecutors.

Naeema and Storai, who worked in the Attorney General's office dedicated to preventing violence against women, were the female prosecutors killed in this week's attack. Their families have criticized the government for failing to keep them safe.

"It is due to a lack of management and weakness in the system that we are facing these conditions every day," said Noor-ul-Haq, a brother of Naseema. "I am sure this is not the first tragedy and it certainly won't be the last," he added.

The violence has prompted some in the legal community to argue for the Attorney General's office to be closed so long as physical safety cannot be guaranteed.

"The investigative institutions and Ministry of Interior must maintain security for the prosecutors; prosecutors don't have anything but their pen - they are weak," a prosecutor named Shah Qasem told TOLOnews. "If they cannot maintain security for the prosecutors, then the doors of the Attorney General's office must be closed."

However,
Switzerland makes more than cheese...
the targeted attacks on prosecutors have been a solemn reminder of just how much political violence in Afghanistan impacts the lives of everyday civilians.

Baghlan Operation Continues, Now In Its Third Week
[Tolo] The ongoing special forces operation in Baghlan is now in its third week as troops battle it out with Taliban krazed killers.

According to officials at total of 63 holy warriors have been killed and maimed. An exact breakdown of those dead and injured were not however available.

Special Police Forces Commander of Interior Minister Asadullah Shirzad said the festivities started on April 27 after a large group of Taliban holy warriors attacked certain points in the province.

Susan, a female security force member in the area said she had been involved in active combat for just over two weeks.

"I have been here for just over two weeks and have been fighting Afghanistan's enemies alongside my brothers." According to her, the fact she is a woman has made no difference to either her or her male counterparts.

However,
a poor excuse is better than no excuse at all...
Baghlan residents are feeling the strain of the ongoing battle and as one resident said: "Yesterday two people were killed. We want peace. Our leaders should bring peace. What is going on that people cannot continue with their daily routines."

Baghlan officials meanwhile urge residents to cooperate with security forces to eliminate the holy warriors from the province.

Taliban holy warriors are yet to comment about the operation and casualties.

Taliban Attack Herat District
[Tolo] Dozens of Taliban holy warriors attacked Shindand district of western Herat

province early Tuesday and clashed with security forces, local officials said.

The attack took place at about 5:00am local time after Taliban holy warriors converged on the area. No details regarding casualties were available as yet, said officials.

Shindand is one of Herat's insecure districts where holy warriors frequently target the security forces.

This attack comes two days after Taliban holy warriors attacked and took control of Jawand district in western Badghis province.

On Monday, military forces launched an operation in Jawand to regain control of the district after Saturday night's attack, said officials.

Taj Mohammad Jahid, the commander of the 207th Corps of the Afghan National Army (ANA) in western Afghanistan said reinforcement troops have been deployed to the area.

This latest incident is just one of many to have been carried out by holy warriors following the launch of their spring offensive last month. Northern provinces that have come under attack in this time include Kunduz, Badakhshan, Baghlan and Faryab provinces.

ANA Overtakes Daesh Recruitment Center in Zabul
[Tolo] ATAL 205 Army Corps Commander General Syed Waqif Shan Saeedi on Sunday announced that security forces had overrun a Daesh recruitment center in southern Zabul province where a number, if not all, of the 31 kidnapped Hazara travelers were once detained.

According to Saeedi, the military operation in Zabul has lasted 22 days and left 150 faceless myrmidons dead. Although the center was once the location of the 31 hostages, they have since reportedly been moved to Ghazni province.

"The security forces have taken control of a Daesh recruitment center and the command and control center of the enemies has been eliminated here," General Saeedi said on Sunday. "Operations are still going on in Shahjoy district, but also in some other districts," he added.

ATAL 205 Army Corps 2nd Battalion Commander General Mohammad Akram Same, who also led troops in the offensive, said it was the casualty damage inflicted on the enemy that led to them fleeing. "We launched the operation in between Shahjoy and Gellan districts, but our forces faced resistance from the enemy," General Same said. "But the security forces caused major casualties for the enemy and that forced them to escape and succeeded in getting control of the recruitment center."

The head of security for Zabul province, Ghulam Jailani Farahi, said Daesh had been launching attacks from the center as well as using it for logistics related to attacks in other areas."The Daesh base existed in the area and Daesh was deploying its fighters to other regions from this center," Farahi said.

The soldiers who participated in the raid that ultimately routed the Daesh faceless myrmidons indicated they were pleased with the outcome, but urged the public to continue to provide help to the security forces in future confrontations with murderous Moslems. "We call on the people to support the security forces so that they eliminate the enemies of Islam and the country," one soldier told TOLOnews.

The Zabul operation was launched by the Afghan National Army (ANA) under the code name "Badr" about 22 days ago. The operation is ongoing and forces are currently fighting faceless myrmidons in Shahjoy, Mizani, Shahr-e-Safa, Arghandab, Nawbahar and Shinkai districts.

He worked at the World Bank working on international development assistance. As Finance Minister of Afghanistan between July 2002 and December 2004, he led Afghanistan's attempted economic recovery until the Karzais stole all the money. ..

Speaking to news hounds near the Park Palace Guesthouse, Massoud said the Death Eaters attacked the guesthouse thinking the ambassador was present in the compound.

Massoud said the attack on Park Palace Guesthouse is likely a political attack but he did not elaborate further.

A security official earlier said a musical event was due to be organized in the event which was due to be attended by the Turkish and Indian guests as well Afghan nationals.

This comes as the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi earlier said he was concerned about the situation after hearing the news.

"In the aircraft I got news about the attack in Kabul. Am concerned about the situation & I pray for everyone's safety," Modi said through a Twitter message.

In the meantime, the Indian ambassador Amar Sinha earlier said all Indians reported safe and the Embassy is in constant touch with security forces and evacuation is on.

The Afghan cops continue to their operations as sporadic gunfire are heard from within the compound of the guesthouse.

There are still no reports regarding the exact casualties.

Four army personnel killed in fresh Sinai bombing
[AlAhram] Four security personnel killed Wednesday following a separate attack that also left civilians dead

A roadside kaboom killed four security personnel Wednesday in the Sinai Peninsula, where Egypt's military is combating an Islamist insurgency, security sources told Al-Ahram Arabic news website.

Two army officers and two recruits were killed when the roadside kaboom went off in a village near the town of Rafah in North Sinai, a hotbed of jihadist fighters who have stepped up their attacks since the 2013 ouster of Islamist president Mohammed Morsi.

The attack was reported shortly after three non-combatants were killed in a separate attack south of Rafah.

to $540 million on Wednesday, the first day of a humanitarian pause in a bombing campaign it has led against its neighbor.

"We announce that we are setting aside one billion riyals ($266 million) for aid and humanitarian operations... in addition to more than one billion riyals ($274 million) we had already pledged," the official Saudi Press Agency quoted the king as saying.

On April 18, the kingdom pledged the entire $274 million sought by the United Nations
...a formerly good idea gone bad...
in an appeal for emergency assistance to help victims of the war in Yemen.

The U.N. said that that money would "meet the life-saving and protection needs of 7.5 million people affected" by a deepening humanitarian crisis in Yemen.

"Projects and partners have been identified for implementation of the grant but money has not been disbursed yet, so it is still a pledge," Jens Laerke, front man for the U.N. humanitarian agency OCHA, said on Tuesday.

Before the five-day ceasefire took effect at 2000 GMT on Tuesday, a Saudi-led coalition had carried out nearly seven weeks of air strikes against Iran-backed rebels and their allies who control much of the country.

The Houthis acknowledged the Arclight airstrike, but said nothing about the convoy. There were no immediate reports on casualties or damage resulting from the Arclight airstrike.

However,

continued ground fighting was reported in some areas shortly after the cease-fire came into force on Tuesday night, with security officials and witnesses saying fierce combat broke out when the rebels sought to storm the southern city of Dhale, firing tank shells, rockets and mortars. The officials and witnesses all spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to the media.

A Saudi Defense Ministry statement accused the Houthis of violating the ceasefire Wednesday morning by firing toward the Saudi border areas of Jizan and Najran. The statement quoted an unnamed official, as it regularly does, as saying the kingdom's armed forces were exercising restraint in line with a commitment to the ceasefire.

The Saudis and their allies are seeking the restoration of the Western-backed President Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi, who fled the country in March in the face of the Houthis' advance

In Tehran, Gen. Masoud Jazayeri warned that actions against the Iranian aid ship would not be tolerated.

"I bluntly declare that the self-restraint of Islamic Theocratic Republic of Iran is not limitless," Jazayeri, the deputy chief of staff, told Iran's Arabic-language Al-Alam state TV late Tuesday. "Both Saudi Arabia and its novice rulers, as well as the Americans and others, should be mindful that if they cause trouble for the Islamic Theocratic Republic with regard to sending humanitarian aid to regional countries, it will spark a fire, the putting out of which would definitely be out of their hands."

U.S. Charges Four after Intercepting Gun Shipments to Lebanon
[AnNahar] Four U.S. relatives with ties to Leb were charged Tuesday with conspiring to illegally ship a large number of guns and ammunition to Leb, hidden in supplies for refugees.

Federal agents intercepted cargo containers in March and again last week that were bound for Beirut carrying a total of 152 firearms and 16,000 rounds of ammunition, according to a criminal complaint unsealed Tuesday.

The suspects were identified as brothers Ali Herz, 50, and Bassem Herz, 29; Adam Herz, who is Ali Herz's 22-year-old son; and Sarah Zeaiter, who is Bassem Herz's 24-year-old wife.

All four were placed in durance vile
Book 'im, Mahmoud!
and expected to make court appearances Tuesday in Cedar Rapids, where the investigation centered. They didn't yet have attorneys who could comment on the allegations.

Cedar Rapids is home to a large Moslem community, with immigrants from Leb first arriving in the early 1900s. The Mother Mosque of America in Cedar Rapids, built in 1934, is widely recognized the oldest mosque in North America.
The four came under suspicion as they stockpiled guns and ammunition legally purchased from dealers in Iowa over the last several months. A gun store owner in February expressed concern
...meaning the brow was mildly wrinkled, the eyebrows drawn slightly together, and a thoughtful expression assumed, not that anything was actually done or indeed that any thought was actually expended...
s to authorities after the group twice purchased all of his store's 5.7 millimeter ammunition and the parts to assemble 15 assault rifles. One of the men also requested accessories for military-style rifles after reviewing a text message written in a foreign language, the owner reported.

The firearms found in March were hidden inside of a container that had three skid loaders that were being exported and Midamar boxes marked "Syria" that were filled with clothing, shoes, honey and household supplies.

After the container arrived by train at a seaport in Norfolk, Virginia, Sherlocks found 53 guns and 6,800 rounds of ammunition during a March 26 inspection.

Last week, agents searched a container the suspects had brought to Midamar for shipment that had 99 firearms, over 9,500 rounds of ammunition and firearms parts and accessories that were hidden in skid loaders and inside suitcases and boxes that contained clothing.

The four suspects, who are in the United States legally, are not licensed to sell or export firearms, the complaint says.

Ali Herz and Zeaiter were born in Leb; Bassam Herz was born in Kuwait, and Adam Herz was born in the United States.

The Herzes previously caught attention for their ties abroad. Ali Herz had $61,400 in cash on him when he returned to the United States from overseas in December and has sent and received $160,000 in wire transfers over the last two years, the complaint says. Adam Herz was questioned after returning to the United States in 2012 and 2014 from what he said was a monthslong visit to Leb. Bassem Herz has made many trips abroad and previously exported other equipment to Leb.

U.S. Man Sentenced to 20 Years after IS Support Guilty Plea
There's been a steady trickle of penny ante wannabe johadis arrested and convicted recently...
[AnNahar] A U.S. man was sentenced to more than 20 years in prison after he pleaded guilty to supporting the myrmidon Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. group, authorities said Wednesday.

Donald Ray Morgan was tossed in the clink

last year and charged over supporting and attempting to join the radical group.

Morgan traveled to Leb but was unable to cross the border into Syria, prosecutors said.

He was a "threat to national security," said FBI agent John Strong in North Carolina, where the sentence was handed down by a federal judge.

Prosecutors said Morgan frequently promoted "violent terrorist activities" and IS in social media.

The 44-year-old was arrested at JFK International Airport in New York last year on an indictment for possessing a firearm as a convicted felon.

Morgan's guilty plea for possessing and selling an assault rifle in 2012 following a felony conviction was factored into his 20-year sentence. Convicted felons are prohibited from owning firearms in the U.S.

IS controls swathes of territory in Iraq and Syria and the U.S. is leading an air campaign to try and destroy the group.

The myrmidon group known for its brutality has motivated a number of supporters in the U.S. with its radical ideology. U.S. officials said an attempted attack in Texas earlier this month was "inspired" by IS.

"We will continue to do everything we can to shine a light on the false allure of violent extremism and protect innocent people from terrorist activity, whether inside or outside the United States," U.S. Attorney Ripley Rand said in a statement.

India-Pakistan
Gunmen Ambush Bus in Pakistan, Killing Dozens
[WSJ] KARACHI, Pakistain--At least 43 people were killed when gunnies ambushed a bus in this southern port city, Pak officials said, in a sectarian assault that was the country's first major attack claimed by Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
The victims were Ismailis, members of a branch of Shiite Islam, who were traveling together on a bus Wednesday morning.

While Shiites have come under regular assault by the Pak Taliban and its Sunni bad boy allies, Wednesday's bloodshed would be the first time that the central leadership of Islamic State, a virulently anti-Shiite bad boy group that controls parts of Iraq and Syria, has taken responsibility for such an attack in Pakistain.

A message posted on Twitter by an arm of Islamic State calling itself Khorasan Province, an old Islamic term for the Afghanistan-Pakistain region, said the Ismailis were targeted because their beliefs "slander the honor" of the Prophet Muhammad.

Separately, pamphlets Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
police found on the bus claimed to be from Islamic State, security officials said. Police are investigating whether Wednesday's carnage and other recent attacks in Karachi are really the work of the group.

"This time there is a direct claim from this group that it is--on its own admission--part of Daesh," Raja Umar Khattab, head of the counterterrorism unit of Karachi police, told The Wall Street Journal, using an Arabic term for Islamic State. "But this is all circumstantial evidence at the moment. We need more to say with authority that Daesh has actually started operations in Karachi."

In the past, the parent Islamic State organization hadn't confirmed that it was responsible for recent attacks in Pakistain and Afghanistan that were claimed in its name, leaving a confused situation.

The bus had just left a residential complex for Ismailis in the east of Karachi when it came under attack.

Southeast Asia
Philippine military disturbed by rise in NPA child soldiers
[Manila Standard] Philippine military spokesman Brigadier General Joselito Kakilala said the military is disturbed at the resurgence of child-soldiers in the New People's Army, especially in Eastern Mindanao. He said, "The latest child-soldier that surrendered to our troops is an 11-year-old boy from Mati City, Davao Oriental."

Kakilala wouldn't give the name of the victim but a separate report identified him as Michael Gabriel, a.k.a. Dodong, who voluntarily surrendered to troops on security patrol in Barangay Camansa, Asuncion, Davao del Norte on May 9. Gabriel is the fourth minor to surrender since March of this year.

Captain Alberto Caber said three minors who had earlier surrendered were aged between 14 and 17. He said, "Around 22% of NPA members are minors ages six 6 to eighteen 17 while around 74% are Indigenous People or Lumads in Eastern Mindanao area."

Bunagan said Gabriel reported he was 6 years old when recruited into the NPA. He said, "The boy had experienced 6 encounters with security forces in some parts of Davao del Norte and in Davao Oriental."

The boy also told him he was being used to plant landmines along the routes of military operations.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Hizbullah, Syrian Army Seize Control of Strategic Tallet Moussa Hill
[AnNahar] Hizbullah
...Party of God, a Leb militia inspired, founded, funded and directed by Iran. Hizbullah refers to itself as The Resistance and purports to defend Leb against Israel, with whom it has started and lost one disastrous war to date, though it did claim victory...
and the Syrian army seized control Wednesday of the strategic Tallet Moussa hill in Syria's Qalamoun, as they pressed on with a major offensive against hard boy groups in the border region.

"The Syrian army and the fighters of the resistance (Hizbullah) have taken the strategic Tallet Moussa hill in Qalamoun," Hizbullah's al-Manar television reported.

The peak provides a line of sight over the border area.

Al-Manar said the allies have also made "major advances in their pursuit of takfiri
...an adherent of takfir wal hijra, an offshoot of Salafism that regards everybody who doesn't agree with them as apostates who most be killed...
groups in the mountains of Qalamoun, east of the Lebanese border."

Syrian forces and Hizbullah fighters are now in control of "more than 50 percent of the outskirts of Ras al-Maara," al-Manar added.

It said the advancing forces continued their onslaught Wednesday on the heights of the strategic Mount al-Barouh, where "tents belonging to the gunnies were torched and two military vehicles were destroyed, which left several of them dead or maimed."

Syrian state television
... and if you can't believe state television who can you believe?
said "army forces in cooperation with the Lebanese resistance (Hizbullah) pursued the remnants of terrorist forces in the Tallet Moussa area."

Hizbullah and the Syrian army also seized control of "strategic" Southern Aqabat al-Faskh hill west of Ras al-Maara, the Tallet al-Harf and Dahr al-Hawa hills, and "the entire al-Khashaat heights which lie in Lebanese territory on the border with Syria," al-Manar said.

It noted that the al-Khashaat area lies east of the outskirts of the Lebanese town of Nahle and "overlooks several border crossings and a large chunk of Arsal's outskirts."

Sky News television meanwhile said five Hizbullah fighters were killed in Wednesday's festivities in Qalamoun.

According to LBCI TV, Hizbullah is now in control of "40 square kilometers of Lebanese territory east of Nahle's outskirts, from Aqabet al-Bayda in the south to Qornet Abdul Haq in the north."

Last week, Hizbullah and Syrian forces controlled the strategic heights of Assal al-Ward in Qalamoun.

Some 3,000 Islamist-led gunnies are in the Qalamoun region, a Hizbullah commander recently said. He said Hizbullah and Syrian troops surround the Qalamoun from the north, the east and the south, as well as part of the west, squeezing the gunnies who remain there.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said Wednesday that 18 Hizbullah fighters, 31 pro-regime troops and 36 rebels had died since battles restarted in Qalamun on May 4.

In April 2014, regime and Hizbullah fighters took control of most of Qalamun, but hundreds of rebel fighters remain entrenched in the mountainous region.

Jihadists have also launched attacks inside Leb from bases in the area, and Hizbullah chief His Eminence Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah
The satrap of the Medes and the Persians in Leb...
said last week that the situation there required "radical treatment."

Hizbullah cites fear of gunnies sweeping through Shiite and Christian villages in Leb's Bekaa as one of the main reasons for its involvement in Syria.

The group's critics, however, argue that the group's intervention has acted as a magnet for the Lion of Islam groups that have launched deadly kabooms inside Leb.

Especially if the enemy has good artillery. Don't believe that's the case here though.

Syrian regime mourns Commander of Elite Forces killed in Jisr al-Shughour
[EN.ZAMANALWSL.NET] Syrian regime on Wednesday mourned the general commander of special forces, the powerful Syrian army unit, who died of his wounds after leading the battles against Salafist tough guys in captured Jisr al-Shughour town northern Syria.

M. General Muhi al-Din Mansour, who led Syrian elite forces, had big history of blind loyalty to Assad family, father and son, since the eighties of last century.

Mansour, who was born in Safita town of Tartus, one of Bashir al-Assad's Alawite strongholds, was unable to escape shells of Fatah Army fighters in Idlib, the alliance that seized swathes of territory in the northern province since late of March 2014.

Syria's four-year-old war has killed more than 220,000 people and forced millions out of their homes.

Double bombing kills 4 in Syria's Homs
[EN.ZAMANALWSL.NET] At least four people were killed and 17 maimed in a double kaboom in Syria's central city of Homs on Tuesday, the provincial governor told AFP.

Governor Talal Barazi said the blasts were caused by cycle of violences rigged with explosives in the Wadi Dahab and Al-Zahra neighbourhoods of the city.

He said four people were killed and 17 maimed in the two districts which are both predominantly Alawite -- the sect to which Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
The Scourge of Hama...
belongs.

"The attacks are intended to disrupt security and stability in Homs," Barazi said, accusing the perpetrators of wanting "to target the city at all costs".

Barazi said motorbikes rigged with explosives had been used in a bid to "evade checkpoints" set up in the city to defend it from would-be attackers.

Both Wadi Dahab and Al-Zahra have been targeted in previous bombings, along with several other Alawite-majority districts of Homs.

The city was around 25 percent Alawite before the conflict began in March 2011, with most of the community living in its southern and southeastern neighbourhoods.

All but one district of Homs are under government control after rebels withdrew from the area following a punishing regime siege.

More than 220,000 people have been killed in Syria since the conflict began with anti-government protests before spiralling into a war after a regime crackdown.

Violent Battles on Outskirts of Arsal between Nusra Front, ISIL

[AnNahar] Fierce battles erupted on Wednesday on the outskirts of the northeastern border town of Arsal between al-Nusra
...formally Jabhat an-Nusrah li-Ahli sh-Sham (Support Front for the People of the Levant), also known as al-Qaeda in the Levant. They aim to establish a pan-Arab caliphate. Not the same one as the Islamic State, though .. ...

of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL).

The state-run National News Agency reported that festivities reached the outskirts of Arsal and Wadi Hmeid crossing, four kilometers from a Lebanese army checkpoint.

The army prevented owners and employees of stone crusher plants in the area from heading to the region.

The Lebanese army recently said that its role is limited to defending Leb's land and border, refusing to interfere in the Qalamoun battle.

Meanwhile,
...back at the bunker, his Excellency called the chief of staff and complained that the artillery was keeping him awake...
unknown gunnies stole 1,500 liters of fuel from a petrol station in Arsal's Wadi al-Rayaan area after they tied a worker.

Unknown knife-wielding attackers also stabbed Fatmeh Nabil al-Hujairi several times and robbed an amount of a money from her.

Despite ideological similarities, the Nusra Front and ISIL are opposed and in conflict with each other in other parts of Syria, particularly in the north.

Hizbullah
...Party of God, a Leb militia inspired, founded, funded and directed by Iran. Hizbullah refers to itself as The Resistance and purports to defend Leb against Israel, with whom it has started and lost one disastrous war to date, though it did claim victory...
backed by Syrian forces controlled strategic heights of Assal al-Wared in the Syrian region of Qalamoun that abuts Leb's eastern border.

Some 3,000 forces of Evil are in the Qalamoun region, a Hizbullah commander recently said. He said Hizbullah and Syrian troops surround the Qalamoun from the north, the east and the south, as well as part of the west, squeezing the Islamic forces of Evil who remain.

The total area of the Qalamoun being contested is about 1,000 square kilometers -- of which 340 square kilometers (131 square miles) lie in Leb and are under bully boys' control.

Hizbullah cites that fear of forces of Evil sweeping through Shiite and Christian villages in diverse Leb as one of the main reasons for their involvement in Syria.

Some observers however fear the Qalamoun offensive could prompt Islamist forces of Evil to launch attacks in Shiite areas of Leb itself, including Beirut's southern suburbs.

A wave of bombings targeting Hizbullah strongholds in 2013 and 2014 left scores of people dead and maimed. Already, residents in a southern Beirut stronghold of Hizbullah say security has been tightened in the area, with officials searching cars and checking identification papers.

of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) group has seized more territory in the central province of Homs amid intense festivities with government forces, Syrian activists say.

The UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said Wednesday's fighting killed at least 28 government troops and about 20 fighters from the ISIL. It said hundreds more were maimed.

ISIL has a presence in the eastern countryside of Homs and has been pushing west.

Twitter accounts affiliated with ISIL say its fighters reported advances northwest of the city of Palmyra, the News Agency that Dare Not be Named news agency reported.

Bebars al-Talawy, an activist based in Homs, said ISIL seized a large government ammunition warehouse outside Palmyra and was bombing a nearby government-controlled airport.

The reports of ISIL's advances could not be independently confirmed.

ISIL has continued to make gains in Syria despite loss of territory in neighbouring Iraq under aerial bombardment by the US-led coalition.

Fighters from the group seized large parts of the Yarmouk refugee camp in Damascus in April.

ISIS acting leader al-Afri killed by US-led airstrike
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The second-in-command of the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) terrorist group, Abu Alaa al-Afri, has reportedly been killed following a US-led Arclight airstrike.

According to Iraqi government officials, al-Afri was killed while attending a meeting at a mosque in Tal Afar.

He had been meeting dozens of murderous Moslems who also died in the strike, Iraq's foreign affairs ministry said Wednesday.

According to reports, al-Afri assumed acting command of the ISIS terrorist group last month after His Supreme Immensity, Caliph of the Faithful and Galactic Overlord, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi
...formerly merely the head of ISIL and a veteran of the Bagram jailhouse. Looks like a new messiah to bajillions of Moslems, like just another dead-eyed mass murder to the rest of us...
, the group's self-declared "caliph", was injured in a separate air strike in March.

Al-Afri is a physics professor and longtime bigwig of the ISIS terrorist group who has published dozens of publications and religious studies.

He has reportedly trained in AFgahnistan from 1998 onwards as he is thought to have know al Qaeda leader the late Osama bin Laden
... who is now sometimes referred to as Mister Bones...
Described as the strongest men in ISIS after al-Baghdadi, al-Afri is thought to have acted as the link between al-Baghdadi, his inner circle and ISIS's network of emirs inprovinces across their self-proclaimed caliphate.
An Nahar adds:
The U.S. military on Wednesday denied that coalition aircraft bombed a mosque in Iraq after Baghdad officials said American-led warplanes had targeted Islamic State jihadists meeting at the mosque in Tal Afar.

U.S. Central Command, which is overseeing the air war against the IS group in Iraq and Syria, said "we can confirm that coalition aircraft did not strike a mosque as some of the press reporting has alleged."

The statement came after Iraq's ministry of defense said the U.S.-led coalition had gone after several big shots of the IS group, including the outfit's second-in-commmand, in a strike on a gathering in the Martyrs' Mosque in Tal Afar's al-Ayadiya district.

The U.S. military also said it had "no information to corroborate" that the IS group's second-in-command, Abu Alaa al-Afari, had been killed.
