Saudi-led strikes kill 30 in northern Yemen
Sanaa -- Air strikes by Saudi-led forces killed 30 civilians in an attack on a market in northern Yemen on Sunday, the Houthi-run news agency Saba said, as UN mediators pushed for a humanitarian pause in fighting that has killed nearly 3,000 since March.

Saba also said Houthi forces launched rockets against a number of Saudi army positions, including a military airport in the southern city of Najran, in response to what it described as Saudi aggression against Yemen.

An Arab coalition led by Saudi Arabia has been pounding the Iran-backed Houthi forces and allied army units loyal to former President Ali Abdullah Saleh since March in a campaign to restore exiled President Abedrabbo Mansour Hadi to power.

Saba said the air strike targeted the Aahem market in Hajjah province, where preliminary figures showed that 30 civilians were killed and an unspecified number of people were wounded.

“The Saudi enemy targeted citizens while they were doing their shopping at Aahem market,” the agency quoted a security source in Hajjah as saying.

Residents confirmed an air strike on the market but gave no figures on casualties, saying the Houthis closed off the area and were transporting casualties to hospitals. A spokesman for the Saudi-led coalition could not immediately be reached for a comment.

On the attacks on Saudi military positions, Saba said that the Yemeni army launched several strikes on Al Sharafa army camp and the military airport in Najran and on tanks stationed north of the Al Khoba region of the Saudi province of Jizan.

It said one Saudi soldier was killed at an observation tower in Dhahran Aseer, where an armoured vehicle was also destroyed, while a tank was destroyed and dozens of soldiers were wounded at Al Makhrooq post in Najran when it was attacked with artillery and rocket fire.

Britain
Cameron gives SAS permission to launch raids inside Syria and Iraq
[Daily Mail] British special forces have been given the go-ahead to launch raids deep into IS territory in Syria and Iraq, top intelligence sources have revealed.

In response to the threat posed directly to Britain, the SAS has been given 'carte blanche' to kill or capture IS leaders, including those who planned the Tunisian beach massacre. An elite force of up to 100 troops is expected to be committed to the secret war, working with US special forces and Navy Seal teams.

Prime Minister Cameron last week promised a 'broad spectrum' response to the murder of 30 British tourists by IS gunman Seifeddine Rezgui in the beach resort of Sousse in Tunisia. Reports say the SAS and SBS will be working with MI6 and GCHQ, the government's eavesdropping service, to target the IS and other terror groups which pose a threat to the nation.

One senior intelligence source said, "The SAS have been pushing to be more proactive for quite a while. In the past couple of years they have planned a number of operations in Syria when the chemical weapon threat was high but the missions were vetoed at the highest level because of the risks involved. The Tunisian attack has led to a rethink and has speeded up the inevitable use of SF [special forces] against Islamic State."

Last week Defense Secretary Michael Fallon it was 'illogical' for the RAF to be bombing ISIS in Iraq, but not joining the American-led assault on their bases in neighbouring Syria. He said, "IS has to be defeated in both countries. It's evil in Iraq is being directed by its headquarters in Syria."

Seven Pakistan troops, 12 militants die in clash
[ARABNEWS] At least seven soldiers and 12 holy warriors were killed in a clash on Sunday in Pakistain's troubled tribal belt where the army is fighting a major offensive against Taliban bully boys.

The military made a new push into the Lion of Islams' last major stronghold near the border with Afghanistan, intelligence officers said Sunday.

Pakistain began a major offensive in North Wazoo last summer to drive out Pak Taliban and other hard boy holy warriors who launch attacks on government and civilian targets.

The army is meeting fierce resistance as it moves further into the lower-lying areas of the Shawal Valley, the Taliban's last stronghold, military officials said.

Pakistain's Army Chief Gen. Raheel Sharif visited troops on Friday and said the initial phase around the surrounding peaks of the Shawal Valley was successful and it was now time to begin a final push into the lower areas.

"We will not stop unless we achieve our end objective of a terror-free Pakistain," he said.

Militants ambushed a military convoy on Saturday in the valley's Pir Ghr area, killing two soldiers and wounding three others, intelligence officials said on condition of anonymity because they were not authorised to speak to the media.

The Pak Taliban grabbed credit for the attack, with front man Azam Tariq saying five soldiers were killed.

The intelligence officials added that troops moving from both the North and South Waziristan sides into the Shawal Valley were encountering tough resistance from Lion of Islams.

The heavily forested ravines in the area are dotted with Taliban hideouts and the area is a key smuggling route into neighboring Afghanistan.

Two other attacks in the northwest killed five more soldiers outside the Shawal Valley.

The first, a remote-controlled kaboom on army vehicles in North Waziristan, killed three and injured six.

A second kaboom on a military vehicle in South Waziristan killed two others, the military officials said.

The Pak Taliban had controlled almost all of the northwestern region of North Waziristan before troops launched their offensive last year.

Many holy warriors have fled to other parts of Pakistain, and some into Afghanistan, complicating the US-backed Kabul

Pakistain's military said the incident took place in the Ghaziza area of Datta Khel town, some 20 km east of Miranshah
... headquarters of al-Qaeda in Pakistain and likely location of Ayman al-Zawahiri. The Haqqani network has established a ministate in centered on the town with courts, tax offices and lots of madrassas...
, the main town in the North Waziristan tribal district which borders Afghanistan.

"Fleeing Death Eaters also left behind three of their dead bodies. Four soldiers also embraced Shahadat (martyrdom) in the exchange of fire," it said in a statement.

A security official in the area confirmed the incident and casualties.

The conflict zone is remote and off-limits to journalists making it difficult to verify the army's claims, including the number and identity of those killed.

Pakistain has been battling a homegrown Islamist insurgency for over a decade following the late 2001 US-led invasion of Afghanistan.

The Pakistain Army began a major campaign against Taliban and other Lion of Islam strongholds in the North Waziristan tribal area in June last year and authorities have now vowed to intensify operations both in the border regions and across the country.

The military says more than 2,700 holy warriors have been killed since the launch of the major offensive.

Landmine explosion kills three Pakistani soldiers in North Waziristan
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] Three Pak soldiers have been killed in a landmine kaboom in North Wazoo tribal built.

Security officials say a military convoy was passing through Bannu area when a landmine went kaboom! on one of its vehicles on Sunday.

The kaboom destroyed the vehicle and left three soldiers killed and six others maimed.

Those maimed have been shifted to a near by hospital for treatment.

According to officials the bomb exploded from a larger distance through a remote control.

This comes as Pakistain is on its final stages of winding up its military operation Zarb-e-Azab which started about a year before in North Waziristan.

The operation started in June last year after peace talks with Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistain (TTP) failed and a deadly myrmidon attack conducted on Bloody Karachi

Iraqi Fighter Jet Drops Bomb Over Baghdad, Kills 12 People

"Oops. Our bad"
An Iraqi Russian-made fighter jet accidentally dropped a bomb over a Baghdad neighborhood on Monday, killing at least 12 people on the ground, Iraqi officials said.

The plane ‐ one of several Sukhois used by Iraq in the fight against the Islamic State group ‐ was returning to base when the accident happened.

Military spokesman, Brig. Gen. Saad Maan Ibrahim, told The Associated Press that a technical failure caused the Sukhoi jet to malfunction and drop the bomb, which hit a number of houses in the Iraqi capital's eastern neighborhood of New Baghdad.

800 Christians join Shiite militias battling ISIS
[RUDAW.NET] The Hashd al-Shaabi Shiite militias, also called Popular Mobilization Units, are training 800 Christian volunteers to battle ISIS in its stronghold djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
, a source from the Babylon Battalion told the Iraqi Al-Mada newspaper.
Citizens, not subjects? This will cause trouble among those who cannot conflate citizen with dhimmi.
"As local forces prepare for the Mosul operation to clear out ISIS gunnies, 800 Christian volunteers have also joined the Battalion of Babylon that belongs to the Hashd al-Shaabi," a source inside the Christian battalion told Al-Mada late Saturday.

According to the source, the Christian volunteers have been training in three military camps in the city of Baghdad and Salahadin province.

"The battalion is a special military arrangement for Christians under the control of Hashd al-Shaabi," Al-Mada quoted the Christian source as saying.

This is not the first time non-Shiite volunteers have reportedly joined the Hashd al-Shaabi. The militias have previously claimed their military groups belong to all parts of Iraq, with different religious and ethnic backgrounds.

Moen al-Kazemi, a Hashd al-Shaabi commander, said the group is a national military group, fighting to protect Iraq and Iraqis, and that volunteers from various background are among the Shiite group.

The Shiite militias signed up 100,000 volunteers in June in Iraq's ongoing war against the Islamic State

, Kazemi said.

The militias, some of which have known ties to Iran, took the lead in the liberation of Tikrit earlier this year amid subsequent allegations the fighters marginalized Sunni residents of the area.

The Hashd al-Shaabi rose up last year at a call from Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani, the highest Shiite holy man in Iraq, when ISIS fighters overran much of country's western territory.

Islamic State suicide bombers strike in Iraqi refinery town

jacket wallahs and fighters attacked the center of Iraq's northern oil refinery town of Baiji overnight, forcing the army and Shi'ite fighters to pull back, military sources and the local mayor said on Sunday.

The town of Baiji and its refinery - Iraq's largest - have been a battlefront for more than a year. The hardline Islamists seized the town in June 2014 as they swept through much of northern Iraq towards the capital Baghdad.

Control of Baiji neighborhoods has changed hands many times during the conflict. The latest Islamic State offensive comes after authorities said they controlled nearly the whole town and expected to drive murderous Moslems from the refinery within days.

The snuffies attacked around 8 pm (1300 EDT) on Saturday with two suicide boom-mobileings. The blasts were followed by fierce festivities that lasted until midnight and drove the army and mainly Shi'ite Hashd Shaabi forces from the center of town, two army colonels said.

Baiji mayor Mahmoud al-Jabouri said there had been a pattern of withdrawals by Islamic State fighters in the town followed by counter-offensives. "Their lethal weapons are suicide kabooms and snipers, and this is why we have fighting back and forth."

Army officers said the army and Hashd groups were preparing a response. "Islamic State fighters are still holding positions in three neighborhoods in Baiji and they are still receiving reinforcements," said one of the army colonels.

In Anbar province west of Baghdad, witnesses said two rockets hit a crowd in the Islamic State-controlled lovely provincial capital Ramadi on Saturday evening, killing at least 18 people.

They said a group of people had gathered after the daily Ramadan fast to play Muhaibis, a game where players have to identify a member of the opposing team who is hiding a ring.

"I heard a blast and saw fire coming from Dolphin Square. I ran to the place and saw vehicles carrying bodies and maimed covered with blood. They were innocent people playing a ring game; they were not making bombs," said Haj Thamir Ahmed, a Ramadi resident who lives nearby.

In northwest Baghdad, at least three people were killed and 11 maimed when a bomb went off near a restaurant in the mainly Shi'ite district of Shulaa on Sunday morning, police and medical sources said. Another two people were killed by a bomb in Hussainiya on the city's northern outskirts.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for those attacks, but statements in the name of Islamic State said the group carried boom-mobileings on Saturday evening in Baghdad and Balad Roz which killed 10 people.

"The investigation uncovered that the suspects met secretly to discuss and promote Islamic State's ideology," Shin Bet said.

Some started spreading the organization's beliefs among their family, friends and acquaintances, while some had also planned to travel abroad to join ISIS' ranks in the fighting in Syria.

The Shin Bet claimed that the four teachers tried to spread the Islamic State's teachings among their students and among other teachers on school premises.

At least six injured in Galilee drive-by shooting
[IsraelTimes] Family of five among victims moderately injured after cycle of violence rider opens fire in Jadeidi-Makr

At least six people, including a family of five, were maimed Sunday after a cycle of violence rider opened fire on them in the northern Israeli Galilee region.

The incident occurred in the Arab town of Jadeidi-Makr, Israeli news site Ynet reported.

The victims were evacuated to the Western Galilee Hospital in Nahariya, with minor to moderate injuries.

According to police, a woman and two minors were among the injured.

Further details were not made immediately clear, but police said they were investigating the incident.

Arab-Israeli politicians have repeatedly cited the prevalence of illegal weapons in Arab society as a major problem requiring greater attention by authorities.

According to Knesset statistics, Arabs are 10 times more likely than Jews to be indicted for possession of an illegal firearm.

Maoist militants attack crop duster in Mindanao
[Inquirer] Over a dozen Maoist militants stormed an airstrip owned by a multinational banana company and blasted a parked light plane in Compostela Valley province on Saturday.

The heavily-armed New People's Army guerrillas swooped down on the compound of Dole-Stanfilco Philippines in Maragusan at 10:20 p.m. The militants forced their way to the company's hangar, firing at the guardhouse, and planted an improvised explosive device under the plane. The attackers then set off the explosive, damaging the crop duster, before they fled.

The US-led coalition, which launched an air war against ISIL in Syria last September, said it had carried out "significant" air strikes against Raqa.

"The significant air strikes tonight were executed to deny Daesh (ISIL) the ability to move military capabilities throughout Syria and into Iraq," front man Lieutenant Colonel Thomas Gilleran said.

"This was one of the largest deliberate engagements we have conducted to date in Syria and it will have debilitating effects on Daesh's ability to move from Raqa."

Coalition forces "successfully engaged multiple targets" throughout Raqa, the statement said, destroying IS structures and transit routes.

The strikes "have severely constricted terrorist freedom of movement," it added.

Islamic State attacks power plant in Hasaka, in northeast Syria: army

jacket wallahs on Sunday blew up an explosive- laden truck near a power plant that serves the northeastern city of Hasaka, the latest attack after their expulsion from most parts of the city, the Syrian army said.

State television said a second attack, against a power plant that serves the southern districts of the city, was prevented, but the first had caused "material damage" and led to "casualties". It did not elaborate.

The ultra-hardline bandidos murderous Moslems continue to stage lighting attacks inside the city, although they were driven out of some districts after they mounted a major offensive that failed last month. That offensive attempted to capture the scenic provincial capital of the oil and grain producing province of Syria.

The city is divided into zones run separately by the government of President Bashar al Assad and a Kurdish administration.

The offensive was meant to relieve pressure on IS, which has given up significant ground recently to Kurds and some local Arab tribes backing them. The bandidos murderous Moslems lost villages around Ras Al Ayn and the town of Tal Abyad northwest of Hasaka along the Turkish border.

The northeastern corner of Syria is strategically important because it links areas controlled by Islamic State in Syria and Iraq. Syrian Kurds have also sought to expand their territorial control over a region stretching from Kobani to Qamishili, which they see as part of a future Kurdish state.

Hezbollah, Assad troops enter rebel-held border city
[ARABNEWS] The Syrian army and Lebanese Hezbollah fighters said on Sunday they had entered the rebel-held city of Zabadani on the second day of a major offensive to capture the border area around the Beirut-Damascus highway.

The army, backed by Hezbollah, has long sought to wrest control of Zabadani, near the Lebanese border, from the rebels who have held it since 2012, a year after the start of the Syrian civil war.

The Lebanese Shiite group Hezbollah's al Manar television station said its fighters and the Syrian army had entered the Jamaiyat district in the western part of Zabadani, about 45 km (30 miles) northwest of the capital Damascus.

Footage showed ground troops entering parts of the city lying in a lush agricultural plain surrounded by a mountain range shared to the east with Leb.

The offensive began on Saturday and was preceded by several days of aerial and artillery bombing of outposts held by a coalition of mainly Sunni Moslem fighters defending the city.

The Syrian army also said on state television
... and if you can't believe state television who can you believe?
their fighters had seized the Sultani district, east of the city, while Hezbollah said it now had encircled the northern portion.

Earlier the Syrian army said: "Tens of bad boyz were potted and injured" in the assault.

The Syrian army, aided by Hezbollah, last March captured the western mountains overlooking Zabadani but rebels who control the eastern hilltops have used rocket launchers to hit army and Hezbollah posts.

The latest offensive is part of Syrian Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad

The capture of the city would secure a safe arms and troops corridor for Hezbollah, whose military role inside Syria has been growing steadily since the start of the conflict.

The area around the once popular resort city was part of a major supply route for weapons sent by Syria to Hezbollah before the 2011 outbreak of the Syrian conflict, which has killed more than 200,000 people.

The Syrian army is fighting on several other fronts. As well as battling rebels around the southern city of Daraa and the northern city of Aleppo, it has been fighting Daesh (Islamic State

Coalition airstrikes target Raqqa, Syria
[CNN] A wave of coalition Arclight airstrikes took aim at ISIS targets in the group's Syrian stronghold of Raqqa over the weekend.

Their goal, according to Brig. Gen. Kevin Killea, is to deny the Death Eaters' "freedom to maneuver" and help ground forces strike back against ISIS.

They were part of "the most sustained set of Arclight airstrikes to date" against ISIS in Syria, Brett McGurk, the U.S. envoy for the coalition against ISIS, said on Twitter.

Eighteen of the strikes were near the Syrian city of Raqqa, capital of the 'caliphate' that Islamic State has declared.

In Iraq, Islamic State was targeted in 12 strikes near eight cities. The statement said tactical units, fighting and staging positions, weapons and vehicles had been hit.
