Civilians Pay the Price for Clashes in Faryab's Almar District
[Tolo News] Clashes between Afghan forces and Taliban faceless myrmidons in Almar district of northern Faryab province have displaced hundreds of families, leaving them homeless and despairing.

TOLOnews news hound, Karim Amini, visited the area and reports that local communities have suffered the brunt of the damage brought on by the fighting. Hundred of households have lost all of their belongings and property.

According to Amini, the Dara-e-Qaraee area in Alamar district, which has been embattled in conflict between Afghan cops and rebels for the past month, is like a ghost town, with no inhabitants in sight.

Although there are a few families who have dared to stay in their houses, they might not last much longer. They're situation is prison-like, and they cannot farm their lands, which is an essential source of income.

"There will be no fighting if there are no Talibs. People escaped and were displaced when the fighting started," Dara-e-Qaraee resident Mohammad Qurban said. "Women have gone to one side and men to the other side. Every night, we are afraid and concerned that maybe our house will be hit by a mortar or rocket; no one can work on their lands."

Some local families have left their houses and are living near the mountains in Maimana city -- the capital of Faryab. But these families have no access to critical services.

A member of a displaced family and resident of Almar district, Sher Mohammad, told TOLOnews that he had witnessed fighting every day. "We have been fed up with war. We can't tolerate anymore. We left everything and came here to save our lives," he said.

Sher Mohammad's son, Farhad, said his uncle and cousins were killed in the violence. "Please stop the war. We are tired of it," he said.

#1  This was a very large kaboom - likely the biggest in Kabul. Initial estimates say 3,000 to 5,000 lbs. Looking at the blast crater and surrounding damage - I'm guesstimating much bigger.

No boogereaters are taking credit due to the high number of civilian casualties and destroyed homes/shops. Got a pretty good idea though :).

Attacks on army, police and U.S. special forces kill 50 in Kabul
[REUTERS] A wave of attacks on the Afghan army and police and U.S. special forces in Kabul
...the capital of Afghanistan. Home to continuous fighting from 1992 to 1996 between the forces of would-be strongman and Pak ISI/Jamaat-e-Islami sock puppet Gulbuddin Hekmayar and the Northern Alliance, a period which won Hek the title Most Evil Man in the World and didn't do much for the reputations of the Northern Alliance guys either....
have killed at least 50 people and maimed hundreds, dimming hopes that the Taliban might be weakened by a leadership struggle after their longtime leader's death.

The bloodshed began on Friday with a truck bomb that went kaboom! in a heavily populated district of the capital and ended with an hours-long battle at a base used by U.S. special forces. It became the deadliest day in Kabul for years.

The Islamist Lions of Islam grabbed credit for both the police academy attack and the battle at the U.S. special forces base, though not for the truck bomb.

The violence was a stark reminder of the difficulty of reviving a stalled grinding of the peace processor, conveying a no-compromise message from the Taliban following last week's revelation of Mullah Mohammad Omar's death and a dispute over the leadership of the insurgency.

"The question is, who is sending the message?" said Thomas Ruttig of the Afghanistan Analysts Network.

The U.N. mission in Afghanistan said the incident was the worst since it began recording civilian casualties in 2009, with 355 civilians killed or injured. The U.N. Special Representative, Nicholas Haysom, called it "extreme, irreversible and unjustifiable in any terms".

On Saturday, NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. It's headquartered in Belgium. That sez it all....
-led coalition forces confirmed that one international service member and eight Afghan contractors had been killed in the attack on Camp Integrity, a base used by U.S. special forces near the main airport.

Policeman killed, 3 injured in attack on Cairo-Fayoum desert road
[AlAhram] One policeman has been killed and three others injured after unknown assailants fired shots early Saturday at a prisoners transfer truck on the Cairo-Fayoum desert road, Al-Ahram Arabic news website reported.

The injuried were transported to the Fayoum General Hospital for treatment.

According to initial investigations, gunnies on a cycle of violence fired shots on the police truck that was travelling on the desert road south of Cairo.

The Cairo-Fayoum desert road has been disrupted several times by assailants firing on security checkpoints.

In May, assailants fired on a checkpoint on the road. However,
a lie repeated often enough remains a lie...
no injuries were reported and the assailants escaped.
An Nahar adds:
The assailants were hiding in a field and fired on a convoy transporting two prisoners due for release, before fleeing the scene, a police general told AFP.

The shooting came days after coppers killed five suspects in Fayoum province, southwest of Cairo.

Car blown up in Derna in fresh revenge attack

(IS) supporter was blown up near the town's Azzouz roundabout.

The practice of destroying anything belonging to IS members -- whether cars or homes -- has now become well established since IS were forced out in June by forces of the Shoura Council of Mujahideen (SCMD).

Meanwhile,
...back at the Hubba Hubba Club, Nunzio wondered: Where the hell was Chumbaloni? And where was his $600?...
festivities were reported today on Derna's east coast after IS started bombarding the area from the Fataiah farm area outside the town where it is still based. The Mujahideen fired back.

Elsewhere, outside the town, explosives found near Al-Hila checkpoint were diffused. They apparently had been left by IS forces during fight there yesterday in which the Mujahideen say they captured a number of vehicles.

It is also believed that yesterday's air strike by the Libyan National Army on a boat heading for Derna port was a mistake. It had been claimed that the vessel contained ammunition and fighters. However,
it was a brave man who first ate an oyster...
it is locally reported as having been just a fishing boat.

Four die in Sebha protests as anti-Saif Al-Islam death sentence demonstrations continue in Libya
[Libya Herald] At least four pro-Qadaffy protestors were reported killed yesterday in Sebha yesterday, allegedly by members of Misrata's Third Force backed by a local force, named as the Bahir Eldeen brigade. It is also reported by a local resident that a number of other demonstrators were maimed in the incident.

The protestors were again demonstrating against the death sentences passed by a court in Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
last week on Saif Al-Islam Qadaffy, Abdullah Senussi and seven other prominent members of the former regime.

It is alleged that yesterday's demonstration, in Sebha's Jadid district, started peacefully and that the Third Force opened fire on the without provocation. This has not been confirmed. Other reports, however, claim that the protestors were armed.

Demonstrations started in Sebha almost as soon as the sentences were announced and despite warnings from the municipal council and the Third Force that they would be dealt with severely, have been growing in strength.

According to the local resident, who claimed he was opposed to the protests, yesterday's demonstrators, waving green former regime flags and put at several hundred, were largely made up of Magarha and Qaddadfa tribe members. However,
alcohol has never solved anybody's problems. But then, neither has milk...
it is also reported that anger at the lack of security and power, rising prices and the growing chaos in the town have also played a part in rallying support for the Qadaffy era.

In Bani Walid, green-flag waving demonstrators also turned out yesterday for what they called a "Friday of Anger" at the death sentences. Numbers appear to have been fewer than in Sebha but there were some among men among them. There were also, for the first time, women, children among the protestors, with with men wearing the green military uniforms.

"We're fed up with being afraid," a resident from Bani Walid told the Libya Herald. "Now it's time to make clear that our town and its residents are still sticking to the leader (Qadaffy) and his sons," he added.

" We completely reject and refuse the ruling of a court controlled by militias and criminals," he said.

Nine Killed, Four Rescued From Hotel in Mali, Says Official
[WSJ] Mali's special forces early Saturday rescued four people who hid in a hotel for nearly 24 hours after Islamic faceless myrmidons stormed the building and launched a rare attack far from their northern strongholds that killed nine people, officials said.

Three attackers were also killed in the fighting.

The four rescued U.N. employees are two South Africans, a Russian and a Ukrainian, said U.N. mission in Mali spokeswoman Radhia Achouri.

"Our contractors survived because at no time was their presence discovered by the forces of Evil in the hotel," she said, adding there wasn't much resistance Saturday morning during the rescue. The four will soon go to Bamako, the capital, she said.

Additional U.N. personnel may still be missing, said a U.N. official not authorized to speak to the press on the matter. Some personnel couldn't be reached, and some of the attackers left Sevare after the initial attacks Friday morning, the official said.

A 38-year-old South African who died in the attack worked for an aviation company that was assisting the U.N. contingent in Mali, Nelson Kgwete, front man for South Africa's Foreign Ministry, said on Twitter. Mr. Kgwete declined to reveal the identity of the dead South African. Two other South Africans caught up in the attack are safe, he said on Twitter.
An Nahar has a slightly different count:
There are 12 dead in all," an army officer told Agence La Belle France Presse after the operation at the Hotel Byblos in Sevare, listing the fatalities as five "terrorists", five soldiers and "two white people".

They said most of the casualties were civilians returning to their homes, including in picturesque provincial capital Huta.

The Iran-backed rebels fled after forces loyal to exiled president Abedrabbo Mansour Hadi retook large parts of the southern province.

Loyalists have regained the upper hand in the south, after recapturing second city Aden last month and the key al-Anad airbase to its north earlier this week.

A passenger plane of national carrier Yemenia landed Friday in Aden from Djibouti, carrying 180 Yemenis returning home, airport director Tareq Abdu told AFP.

An Emirati plane also arrived late on Thursday, he said, carrying navigation equipment to rehabilitate the airport, which was partly destroyed in fighting.

Earlier, ISIS revealed the bomber's image, and said that his nickname was "Abu Sinan al-Najdi."

Interior Ministry front man Gen. Mansour al-Turki told Al Arabiya News Channel that Salman had previously been detained, and authorities are now searching for additional suspects in the mosque bombing.

"There are sides who are complicit and we must find them," he said.

Turki said while Saudis make "thousands of phone calls" to report suspicious people, which could lead authorities to "arrest those who we've have enough evidence to do so," mere alerts were "not enough."

"Educating youngsters" is important to stop them being used as "tools for terrorism," he urged.

Britain
UK Special Air Service A&S to Be 'Softened' Due to New Health and Safety Rules
[Breitbart UK] The Special Air Service (SAS) is widely regarded as one of most fearsome military units in the world, but its admissions tests are now set to be weakened following the deaths of three reservists during a training exercise in 2013.

An investigation found that those in charge failed to take the relatively high temperature into account during the exercise in the Brecon Beacons mountain range in Wales, while a tracker system did not properly monitor the men.

From now on test marches will likely be halted if temperatures rise above 28C (82F), combined with high humidity. There are also likely to be more water stations along the training route in Wales and a practice session to allow recruits to familiarise themselves with the terrain.

However, American special forces, who often work closely with the SAS, have expressed their shock at the decision. One insider told The Times: "It's all very well taking weather conditions into account in the training course, but what happens when they are deployed to Iraq in 50 degrees?"

Former SAS officers also fear the lighter regime will mean weaker men are recruited. "Once you start introducing health and safety then forget it," said one. "The feeling around the camp fire is that this is going to change [assessment & selection] and make it softer and easier."

One source also said the additional water stations would make training more like a civilian marathon race and remove the need to demonstrate "water discipline" -- the ability to go long periods without water, a skill especially important in desert environments.

"The [Ministry of Defence] is after a no-risk environment, but that is a nonsense," the officer said. "You are not joining the boy scouts."

#9  they'll just make the training longer and drop the hammer on them later in the training.

Sort of like Ranger School. I thought the Harmony Church phase was the hardest thing I had ever done until I got to Dahlonega and Eglin. Each phase was tougher and by the time I got back from Eglin, I could had done the Harmony Church morning PT in my sleep...

Of course the other poster is right, if the do gooders soften up the entrance requirements for the SAS, then there will be an "elite" subset of the SAS that is pure hell training.

Its funny though, of all of the people you would think would be trying to diversify or whatever the elite services, you don't hear the French saying that about the Foreign Legion or the Italian's saying that about their rather reclusive unit within the Carbinari.

The real men will find some way around this and we'll still be able to man up no matter what these idiots try to do.

2.) A province of Pakistain ruled by one of the Sharif brothers
3.) A province of India. It is majority (60 percent) Sikh and Hindoo (37 percent), which means it has relatively few Moslem riots....

Secretary Maulana Zubair Ahmed Siddiqi said the joint operations of security forces had been going on for two days and hundreds of seminaries had been searched across the province.

"Offices, hostels and even kitchens have been searched by police. Harassment is being created among the teachers and students," he said. He said seminaries were being defamed as part of an international conspiracy.

"No weapon has been recovered from seminaries during the search operation nor was any illegal activity reported," he said. He said the government should now clear that the seminaries had nothing to do with terrorism, sectarianism and illegal activities besides taking action against the 'officials' who submitted false reports about the seminaries, while media trail of seminaries also should be stopped.

He said action against the seminaries of any particular sect was discrimination and it would further pave the way for fanaticism and sectarianism. He said action should be taken without discrimination.

He said the administrations of some districts were promoting sectarianism by including peaceful and non-sectarian personalities in the Fourth Schedule to keep them away from the administrative affairs of the seminaries. He said the Wifaqul Madaris was ready to solve any issue with the government.

Resolutions passed against Altaf Hussain in Sindh Assembly
[DAWN] The Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf, PML-F and PML-N on Friday moved resolutions condemning recent statements of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain in the Sindh Assembly.

The PTI celebrated the development as a historic move as it managed to persuade the Pakistan Peoples Party's (PPP) Sohrab Sarki to sign its resolution.

Amidst protest and sloganeering from MQM lawmakers, the resolutions calling for the government to take notice of the statements of the MQM supremo and "take legal action against Altaf" were submitted in the presence of Speaker Agha Siraj Durrani.

The Sindh Assembly Speaker moved the resolutions in the House and called for a vote. After majority voted in favour of the resolutions, the speaker concluded, "The ayes have it," and adjourned the session until Aug 10.

The PTI resolution submitted under Rule 256 of the Sindh Assembly rules says, "This House condemns the statements of Altaf Hussain asking for intervention by foreign institutions and countries in the internal matters of Pakistan. His statements asking for the breakup of Sindh are also strongly condemned."

Iraq
Peshmerga quash ISIS attacks in Shingal
[Rudaw] Kurdish forces in Shingal repelled a furious Islamic State

attack on Saturday.

United States-led coalition warplanes bombed the terrorists, destroying two vehicles and killing several ISIS holy warriors, a Peshmerga commander told Rudaw.

"This afternoon, Daesh [ISIS] attacked the Peshmerga outposts in Shingal with advanced weapons, but the assault was silenced by the Peshmerga and coalition warplanes, causing no casualties from the Peshmerga," said Brig Gen. Hashim Sitai, commander of the 8th Peshmerga brigade.

"ISIS brought in new batches of forces from djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
to Shingal, and today they launched the assault," said Sitai. "The warplanes bombed the ISIS force seven times, destroying two military vehicles and killing 70 percent of the new ISIS force."

In a major ground offensive last December, nearly 8,000 Kurdish fighters lifted a four-month siege on Mount Shingal. The city below the mountains, however, is still highly disputed and largely in ISIS control.
Another Rudaw article adds:
Shingal sits on a vital ISIS supply route from djinn-infested Mosul to Raqqa. The Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) and Peshmerga engage in daily skirmishes with the holy warriors.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
PKK affiliate in Iran claims deadly attack on military outpost
[Rudaw] The Kurdistan Workers' Party's (PKK) affiliate in Iran claimed Friday it had killed 20 Iranian soldiers in an attack on a military outpost in the city of Mariwan, a claim denied by Iranian authorities.
Because being hunted by the Turkish army isn't nearly excitement enough.
KODAR, the Free and Democratic Society of Eastern Kurdistan, said that its armed wing (YRK) had targeted the military outpost in the Kurdish town on Thursday, killing members of Iran's Islamic Theocratic Republic Guards Corp (IRGC).

A KODAR statement said that recent tensions had been triggered after Iranian forces launched sporadic attacks on the YRK, known as the Rojhelat Protection Unit.

"We previously announced that IRGC attacks on YRK guerrillas would lead to war. These assaults are tantamount to the breaking of the ceasefire by the Iranian regime," the statement said.

Iranian officials in the country's Kurdistan Province refuted KODAR's claim of soldiers killed or injured, reporting only minor damage from the attack.

Meanwhile,
...back at the fist fight, Jake ducked another roundhouse, then parried with his left, then with his right, finally with his chin...
Iran's outlawed Kurdish Komala party claimed late Friday that it had carried out the Marivan attack, saying the KODAR claim was false.

Last year, PKK's offshoot organization in Iran, known as the Free Life of Kurdistan (PJAK), announced major shifts in its political agenda in Iranian Kurdistan.

It established KODAR and has been promoting it as a group not only for Iranian Kurds, but for all oppressed and marginalized populations in Iran.

field sources told SANA that the army units and the Resistance forces are combing several areas they had earlier taken control of in central al-Zabadani city.

The sources noted that the terrorist Ziad Nassif, a group's leader within the so-called "Hamza Bin Abdul-Muttalib Battalions" was killed during operations on Friday.

30 people killed in Assad air strikes on Idlib
[EN.ZAMANALWSL.NET] At least 27 people were killed on Saturday when Syrian regime forces shelled a local market in rebel-held town in Idlib province, medics told Zaman al-Wasl.

Saturday's barrel bombs barrages hit the crowded sheep market in Senjar town, leaving dozens killed and maimed,
.
Two women and a child were also killed by missile attacks on Ma'arret al-Nou'man in Idlib.

Syrian regime has extended its fierce aerial campaign on Fatah-Army-held towns. The air force has carried out 12 raids on the countryside of Idlib in the last 24 hours, activists said.

At least 230,000 people have been killed since Syria's conflict erupted in Deraa in March 2011.

Hundreds of Syrian Christians flee ISIS
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Hundreds of Christian families have fled a central Syrian town as Islamic State

of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) fighters advance toward it, activists said Saturday, the anniversary of the U.S. beginning Arclight airstrikes against the murderous Moslems in Iraq.

A U.S.-led coalition has conducted nearly 6,000 Arclight airstrikes against ISIS, expanding its operations to target the murderous Moslems in Syria as well. But a year later, ISIS remains able to launch attacks across its self-declared "caliphate" in both countries, despite some gains by Kurdish fighters and allied Iraqi forces.

Meanwhile,

searches continued in Egypt for a missing Croatian hostage that an ISIS affiliate had threatened to kill.

On Saturday, Osama Edward, the director of the Christian Assyrian Network for Human Rights in Syria, said "hundreds of families" have fled the Christian town of Sadad toward the government-held central city of Homs and the capital, Damascus.

Syria-based activist Bebars al-Talawy said intense festivities took place Saturday near the central town of Qaryatain, which ISIS captured on Thursday. Qaryatain is about 25 kilometers (15 miles) northwest of Sadad.

Qaryatain lies in the middle of a triangle formed by the cities of Homs, Palmyra and Damascus. Activists say it has a mixed population of around 40,000 Sunni Moslems and Christians, as well as thousands of internally displaced people who earlier fled Homs.
