Afghanistan
German Aid Worker Abducted in Kabul
In such places one finds Man in his natural, uncivilized state. Being kidnapped by unknown idiots of unknown viciousness is part of the adventure -- assuming one lives through it, of course.
[AnNahar] Gunmen kidnapped a German female aid worker in Kabul
...the capital of Afghanistan. Home to continuous fighting from 1992 to 1996 between the forces of would-be strongman and Pak ISI/Jamaat-e-Islami sock puppet Gulbuddin Hekmayar and the Northern Alliance, a period which won Hek the title Most Evil Man in the World and didn't do much for the reputations of the Northern Alliance guys either....
in broad daylight Monday, officials said, highlighting the growing risk to humanitarian workers in war-battered Afghanistan.

No group has so far grabbed credit for the kidnapping, which comes amid heightened security in Kabul after a wave of recent devastating bombings that left more than 50 people dead.

Police officials said unidentified attackers kidnapped the woman on Monday morning from a central Kabul neighborhood where a number of foreign aid agencies are based.

"The aid worker is believed to be a German national and works for (German development agency) GIZ," Kabul police front man Ebadullah Karimi told AFP.

Two Afghan security officials and the head of an Afghanistan-based foreign NGO with contacts inside GIZ gave the same details.

An AFP photographer saw a maroon Hilux pickup truck outside GIZ's office in Kabul, with the backseat window smashed.

Security forces at the scene, who did not want to be named, told AFP the victim was taken from the vehicle and hauled away by gunnies.

German foreign ministry front man Martin Schafer refused to confirm the news and GIZ declined to comment.

The incident marks the second abduction of a GIZ aid worker since April, when an employee of the agency was kidnapped in the northern restive province of Kunduz.

Afghan officials said the man was liberated by security forces in late May.

Aid workers in Afghanistan have increasingly been casualties of a surge in Lion of Islam violence in recent years.

In April the bullet-riddled bodies of five Afghan workers for Save the Children were found after they were kidnapped by gunnies in the strife-torn southern province of Uruzgan.

Boko Haram Attack Kills Seven in NE Nigeria Village
[AnNahar] Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
hard boyz on Monday raided a village in restive northeast Nigeria
... a particularly crimson stretch of Islam's bloody border...
's Borno state near the border with Niger, killing seven people, community leaders told AFP.

Dozens of gunnies stormed Awonori, a farming and herding village near the fishing town of Damasak, and carted away food supplies and livestock, they said.

"They killed seven people, looted grains and took away all the livestocks in the village before fleeing into the bush," Muhammadu Modu Wan-Wan, head of the Damasak fishermen's union, told AFP.

"The gunnies who came in vans and on cycle of violences around 7:00 am (0600 GMT) besieged the village and opened fire on residents as they were having breakfast before moving to their farms," he said.

Wan-Wan said the attack forced the villagers to flee but they returned after the assailants had left.

Abubakar Gamandi, the head of Borno's fishermen's union, confirmed the attack.

"I received report from my members in the Damasak area that Boko Haram gunnies attacked Awonori village this morning where they killed seven people and took away food and livestocks," he said.

Last month, residents of Damasak and surrounding villages fled their homes and crossed the border into the Niger town of Diffa, fearing Boko Haram attacks. But Wan-Wan said many residents have since returned to their farms.

"People have no food to feed their families which is why they take the risk of going back to their villages to work on their farms now that the rainy season has started," he said.

Yemen: More than 80 dead in 24 hours of fighting for Taiz
[DAWN] Heavy fighting
... as opposed to the more usual name-calling or slapsy...
between government loyalists and rebels for Yemen's third city Taez has left more than 80 people dead in the past 24 hours, military sources said on Monday.

The dead bodies of 50 Houthis and allied troops were retrieved from the city on Monday, the sources in Taez said, adding that 31 pro-government fighters were also killed.

Military sources said on Sunday that pro-government forces, supported by Gulf air strikes have made key gains against rebels in Taez -- seen as a gateway to the rebel-held capital Sanaa.

They have seized several strategic locations in the city, including intelligence headquarters, a fortress from which the rebels had been shelling Taez, as well as the highest peak overlooking the city, according to Rashad al-Sharaabi, front man of the pro-government militia there.

Clashes were ongoing Monday with fierce fighting using heavy weaponry reported around the rebel-held presidential palace.

The latest advance on Taez came after loyalist forces made sweeping gains in south Yemen, starting with their recapture of main city Aden in mid-July.

Military sources say the coalition has provided exiled president Abedrabbo Mansour Hadi's supporters with modern heavy equipment, including tanks and armoured personnel carriers, and Yemeni soldiers trained in Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. Yemeni Army, Committees Attack Saudi Jizan Post, Kill Two Border Guards
[ALMANAR.LB] Yemeni army and the Popular Committees forces attacked a Saudi border military base on Monday, killing 2 soldier guards, Riyadh's official news agency said.

A statement of the official SPA agency said that the soldiers were killed on Sunday in the Jizan district bordering Yemen, identifying them as "Sergeants Ali al-Ghazwani and Sarwi al-Saeed".

It didn't add further details.

Moreover, the state-run Sabanews.net website reported that the Popular Committees and the national Yemeni army attacked Saudi border positions on Sunday in the Aseer and Jizan regions.

"The forces fired Katyusha rockets, destroying Saudi army vehicles, and killing several soldiers," it said.

The two Saudi soldiers bring the number of troops killed in shelling and skirmishes on the kingdom's side along the frontier with Yemen to more than 51 since the coalition military campaign on Yemen began on March 26.

[RFE/RL] Thousands of people in Uzbekistan's security forces have been mobilized in the Ferghana region to search for two women they allege are potential suicide bombers.

Sources said that Rishton district had been blocked off by police and security measures had been increased after two women armed with a pistol and a grenade robbed a family in one house and attempted to rob another house in Rishton on August 16.

Police said the suspects were wearing belts in the video that looked similar ones used by suicide bombers. Both women were described as missing their left thumbs and right little fingers.

Blitz in North Waziristan, Khyber kills at least 65 'suspected militants'
[DAWN] At least 65 Death Eaters were killed and their ammunition dump destroyed Monday in air strikes on hideouts in the country's tribal belt near the Afghan border, the military said.

The strikes targeted hideouts in the Gharlamai and Shawal areas of the lawless North Wazoo tribal region, where the army has been waging an offensive against Talibs since June last year.

"At least 50 bad boyz were potted in precise air strikes in Shawal and Gharlamai this afternoon. There are reports that the terrorists' infrastructure in the area, including their ammunition dump, is badly damaged," the military said in a statement.

Earlier in the day, two intelligence officials, who declined to be identified as they were not authorised to speak on the record, told Rooters that air strikes on Monday morning killed at least 24 suspected Death Eaters in the Zoi Nari, Lataka, Mizer Madakhel and Shawal areas of North Waziristan.

"Jet air shelling destroyed six bad boy hideouts and killed 24 Death Eaters hiding in this area," said one of the officials, adding that the dead included some foreigners.

A second official confirmed the deaths but declined to comment when asked if the strikes were in retaliation for Sunday's attack in Punjab, which killed nine people, including the provincial security chief.

According to Radio Pakistain, air raids were also conducted in Rajgal area of Khyber Agency, where 15 forces of Evil were targeted including two jacket wallahs.

These areas are generally off-limits to journalists, making it difficult to independently verify the number and identity of the dead.

The deeply forested ravines of Shawal Valley and Datta Khel are a smuggling route between Pakistain and neighbouring Afghanistan, and are dotted with bad boy bases used as launch pads for attacks on country's security forces.

The Pak wing of the hard-line Taliban used to control all of mountainous North Waziristan, which includes the Shawal Valley and Datta Khel, and runs along the Afghan border. But the Pak military recaptured most of the region in a major armed operation launched last June.

Security forces had on Sunday carried out aerial strikes in Shawal Valley that killed 40 terrorists.

Iraq
Gov’t claims ISIS militants killed in Anbar in run up to Ramadi assault
[Rudaw] The Iraqi Cabinet has announced that on Monday 70 ISIS gunnies were killed in battlefield areas in Anbar province.

"Security forces from Anbar operations units managed to repel an ISIS assault in the area of Albu Issa close to Ramadi on Monday killing 70 myrmidons," said the Cabinet in a statement.

It also claimed that 40 improvised bombs (IEDs) laid by retreating ISIS gunnies in the area were defused, and US-led coalition warplanes with the help of Iraqi combat forces carried out seven Arclight airstrikes, destroying a boom-mobile equipped with explosives in the process.

"Police forces along with tribal fighters conducted a military campaign in the area of Jazira-Khalidiya and Hassibiya near Ramadi, defusing a boom-mobile as well as a booby-trapped home, killed eight myrmidons, destroyed two weapons depots and another six IEDs," the statement added.

This announcement comes as the government has claimed once again it is preparing to retake the Anbar placid provincial capital of Ramadi.

Iraqi police are claiming to have recaptured the city's outskirts, and Iraqi forces have also arrived at Anbar University just a few kilometers from the center of Ramadi. However,
a clean conscience makes a soft pillow...
the advance has been slow because of explosives and booby traps planted in the newly-liberated areas, the government has said.

According to information obtained from residents, people living close to Ramadi's city gate have evacuated their homes in anticipation of upcoming attacks, according to a video report by Rudaw on Sunday.

"We concluded the first phase of the operation with a security siege on the city and ISIS has no power to move," Defense Minister Khalid Obaidi said in a Thursday statement.

"The first phase of military campaigns to liberate Ramadi started in May with the cooperation of security forces, Sunni tribes, the Hashd al-Shaabi and the US-led coalition. It was successfully concluded," he added.

Obaidi said the second phase of liberation is underway, made the big claim Iraqi security forces are in control of Anbar and ISIS has lost its once-formidable military power. Most of Anbar, the largest province in Iraq, fell to ISIS fighters last year.

Farhan Mohammed, a member of the Anbar provincial council, told Rudaw in June that there was little cooperation between the disparate Iraqi forces. He said the delay in the campaign was to allow for US military advisers to train Sunni tribal fighters and Iraqi forces.
No doubt that's absolutely true.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Palestinian killed while attempting knife attack
[Ynet] Paleostinian man rubbed out while attempting to stab a border policeman at the Tapuch junction, the third such incident in a matter of days.
Clearly, it's this year's thing.
In the third incident of its type in a week, a Paleostinian terrorist was shot and killed after attempting to stab a Border Policeman at the Tapuach Junction in the West Bank on Monday.

The junction is roughly where another Border Policeman was stabbed on Saturday by another Paleostinian perpetrator.

Police said the attacker, Mohammed Amsha, 25, from a village near Jenin, arrived at the Tapuach Junction checkpoint and told the Border Police soldiers stationed there that he was feeling unwell.

The troops instructed him to approach so they could help him, but once he came within a short distance of them he pulled out a knife and attacked to stab one of the soldiers.

The soldier was only lightly maimed and succeeded in pushing the attacked back, while another Border Policeman shot and neutralized the attacker.

"During the afternoon at the checkpoint, me and my fellow fighter detected a suspicious individual moving from Ariel towards Nablus," said the Border Policeman who was maimed.

"In our initial questioning he told me he was from Jenin. I asked for his identity card and he took out the knife."

The Border Policeman, who saw the knife, pushed the terrorist back. "The terrorist then ran towards me with the knife brandished and tried to stab me in the head. I then cocked my weapon and neutralized him. Simultaneously, a soldier came to help me."

"We were ready and prepared and that is why the event has ended this way. It only took a few seconds, so vigilance and operational readiness are the only way to confront these events. My injury was superficial. I'll get quick treatment and return to my duty," said the Border Policeman.

Border Police commander, Major General Amos Yaacov, praised the fighters on the quick operational response noting: "Nearly 48 hours had passed since the first stabbing attack when a Border Policemen neutralized the terrorist who tried to stab them, a couple of kilometers from here. Time after time, our fighters demonstrate their professionalism, vigilance and determination. Within seconds they dealt with the incident and neutralized the terrorist. I came here to tell the soldiers that they acted exactly as is expected of fighters."

The incident bears a striking resemblance to two other incidents last week in which a Paleostinian man attempted to stab a Border Policeman on Saturday near the same junction. That incident also ended with a soldier lightly maimed, and an injured Paleostinian attacker.

during a raid in the southern city of Sidon.

The state-run National News Agency said H.R. was apprehended by the Information Branch of the General Security during an early morning raid on an electronics shop.

In the evening, NNA said army intelligence agents arrested in Sidon a man identified as Musaab Qaddoura. It said he is a brother of Mutassem Qaddoura, "one of the most wanted supporters of al-Asir."

Later on Monday, the Army Command said an intelligence patrol arrested Mohammed al-Naqqouzi in Sidon over his ties to al-Asir.

"He has confessed to meeting terrorist groups and plotting to target army posts," it added.

Al-Asir was arrested on Saturday at Beirut's Rafik Hariri International Airport. He was carrying with him a forged Paleostinian passport and trying to flee to Nigeria via Cairo.

General Prosecutor Judge Samir Hammoud later confirmed that said DNA samples taken from al-Asir match those of his parents

holy man had been on the run since June 2013 after his armed supporters clashed with the Lebanese army in Sidon.

Since Saturday, security forces have conducted several raids in and around Sidon in search of suspects linked to al-Asir.

2 Militants Dead as Leb Army Stops Infiltration Attempts
[AnNahar] The Lebanese army has thwarted an attempt by gunnies to infiltrate Lebanese territories in the eastern Bekaa Valley, leaving two faceless myrmidons dead, the military and state-run National News Agency said on Monday.

Two faceless myrmidons were killed and five injured in the areas of al-Misyada and Wadi Hmeid in an ambush on the outskirts of the northeastern border town of Arsal, they said. The army transported the two bodies to Hermel's state hospital.

NNA identified the gunnies as Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group faceless myrmidons Mohammed Kanj and Ali Mtaweh.

Later, the military shelled the positions of gunnies on the outskirts of Arsal and Ras Baalbek. In the afternoon, the army shelled a group of IS faceless myrmidons who tried to infiltrate from Syria into the outskirts of the al-Naamat area in Lebanese territory, NNA said.

"The Lebanese army's artillery bombardment thwarted their infiltration attempt and forced them to retreat," the agency added.

The faceless myrmidons from al-Nusra
...formally Jabhat an-Nusrah li-Ahli sh-Sham (Support Front for the People of the Levant), also known as al-Qaeda in the Levant. They aim to establish a pan-Arab caliphate. Not the same one as the Islamic State, though .. ...
Front and the IS are taking the porous Lebanese-Syrian border as a hiding place. Their threat rose in August last year when they overran Arsal and took with them hostages from the military and police following deadly festivities. They have since executed four of them.

The army regularly festivities with the faceless myrmidons and thwarts their attempts to infiltrate Arsal.

Syrian Army, Hezbollah Tighten grip on Terrorists in Zabadani
[ALMANAR.LB] Syrian army and Hezbollah fighters took control of a strategic neighborhood in Zabadani, tightening the grip on the Takfiri
...an adherent of takfir wal hijra, an offshoot of Salafism that regards everybody who doesn't agree with them as apostates who must be killed...
bandidos snuffies in the city.

Military Media in the Lebanese resistance movement reported on Monday that the allied forces were in full control of az-Zahra neighborhood and the Western Neighborhood.

The area from Az-Zahra Castle Mosque to Barada Mosque, which lies west if Zabadani is liberated, Military Media said.

Seizing theses neighborhoods helps the allied forces to further tighten grip on the Takfiri terrorists, since the area are densely populated and contain many slams and narrow roads, sources told al-Manar.

Meanwhile,

the Military Media reported that five of Ahrar al-Sham
...a Syria jihadi group made up of Islamists and salafists, not that there's that much difference, formed into a brigade. They make up the main element of the Islamic Front but they don't profess adoration of al-Qaeda and they've been fighting (mainly for survival) against the Islamic State. Their leadership was wiped out at a single blow by a suicide kaboom at a crowded basement meeting in September, 2014...
(Takfiri group fighting in Zabadani) bandidos snuffies handed themselves to the allied force in Zabadani's north.

The Syrian army and Hezbollah have been since July 4 engaged in the battle of Zabadani, the last city under the control of bandidos snuffies in the Qalamoun region on the Lebanese border.

The ongoing battle is part of a wider operation launched by the Syrian forces and the resistance movement's fighters on May 4, which has reportedly driven bandidos snuffies out of more than 90 percent of the territory in the mountainous region.

Syrian army bombards Douma as air raid toll rises - monitor
[IN.REUTERS] The Syrian military bombarded an area northeast of Damascus on Monday, keeping up its attack on a rebel-held district where around 100 people were killed on Sunday in an air strike on a market, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.

Sunday's air strike on Douma, 10 miles (15 km) northeast of Damascus, was one of the bloodiest attacks of its type in the four-year-long war that has killed an estimated quarter of a million people and driven 10 million from their homes.

The U.N. envoy for Syria condemned the air strike, while the United States said it showed that Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Horror of Homs...
had lost legitimacy and called for a "genuine political transition". But Syria's political opposition said the protracted conflict could not be resolved if such attacks went unpunished.

"Any talk of political and peaceful solutions in the shadow of massacres and excusing the criminal from punishment will have no meaning in realising stability in Syria," said Khaled Khoja, head of the The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
-based political opposition coalition.

Sixty bodies were buried on Sunday night in two mass graves, said a front man for the Syrian Civil Defence force in Douma, a rescue service operating in rebel-held areas. Another 35 were buried on Monday, and the corpse count was over 100, he said.

"It was really difficult to identify the bodies of the deaders. Some of them were burned to the bone, so we couldn't add them to the documented list," said the 28-year-old front man, who declined to give his real name for security reasons. His house was destroyed in the bombing, he added.

A Syrian military source said the air force attacks on Sunday on Douma and the nearby area of Harasta targeted an murderous Moslem group, Islam Army, and were a response to recent attacks on nearby government-held areas.

The opposition National Coalition for Syrian Revolutionary and Opposition Forces said the attack aimed to inflict as many civilian casualties as possible. The dead included children.
