Champ to keep troops in Afghanistan beyond 2016, officials say
[Aljazeera] President Barack Obama will announce Thursday a reversal of policy in Afghanistan, slowing plans to draw down U.S. troops and instead maintain a force of 9,800 through most of 2016, senior administration officials said.
Can't have it all go to kak on his watch. Leave it for the next poor bastid.
His decision prolongs the U.S. role in that country's 14-year-old war and ensures he hands the conflict over to the next U.S. president, due to be elected in November 2016 and to take office in January 2017.

Obama had aimed to withdraw all but a small U.S.-embassy based force at Kabul before leaving office. Under the new plan, troops will be drawn down to 5,500 starting sometime in 2017 and based at four locations -- Kabul, Bagram, Jalalabad and Kandahar. The decision follows months of deliberations between Obama, Afghanistan's leaders, Pentagon officials, field commanders and White House advisers about how best to support Afghan forces, senior administration officials said.

"Those have been broad discussions, deep discussions, ones that have included the president's personal engagement and a number of very detailed questions from the president about our posture," an official said.

The U.S. troops will go on training and advising Afghan forces, and also will focus on ensuring that any remnants of Al-Qaeda are prevented from posing a threat to U.S. security, the officials said.

"Our mission won't change," an official said.

Afghan Army Says 200 Taliban, ISIL Gunmen Killed within 24 Hours
[ALMANAR.LB] Afghan cops have killed nearly 200 forces of Evil over the last 24 hours -- including bully boyz of both Taliban and the so-called 'Islamic State

group -- in countrywide counter-insurgency operations, the Afghan Defense Ministry announced Tuesday.

At least 66 other forces of Evil were maimed and eight were captured, while numerous vehicles, weapons and explosives were seized in operations carried out in 11 provinces, the ministry declared in a statement.

"At least 186 Taliban forces of Evil were killed and 66 others maimed," the statement read.

"Four dreaded Taliban capos -- Mawlawi Qadeer, Mawlawi Bakhtiar, Mawlawi Mahmood and Mohebullah Nezami -- were among those killed, while six other commanders were seriously maimed," it added.

The ministry went on to say that operations would be extended in coming days to other areas of the country deemed insecure.

The Defense Ministry also asserted that an Afghan artillery unit had killed 10 ISIL gunnies and maimed eight others in the eastern Nangarhar

province.

"An army artillery unit targeted ISIL forces of Evil hideouts in the Abdul Khil area of the Achin district, killing 10 and wounding eight," the ministry said.

During the same period, it added, at least 10 army troops had been killed and two others maimed as a result of direct fire and bomb kabooms.

Taliban bad boys, meanwhile, claimed to have shot down two Afghan army helicopters in two different provinces on Monday, killing all people on board in both cases.

A helicopter and a fixed-wing army plane did reportedly crash in the central Bamyan and Pashtun-infested Logar provinces, leaving two dead and five injured.

The Afghan government, however, dismissed the bad boys' claim, saying both were the result of technical failures and not enemy action.

"[There was] no enemy involvement in the incident," the government asserted.

MP claims Taliban Supreme Leader recently visited Ghazni and led attacks
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] A member of parliament has claimed that Taliban Supreme Leader Mullah Akhtar Mohammad Mansour recently visited Ghazni province and led Death Eater attacks there.

Arif Rahmani who represents Ghazni province in Wolesi Jirga or Lower House of the Parliament said during Wednesday's session that Mullah Mansour stayed in Nawa District for five days to lead operation.

This was the first time he came to Afghanistan, even though, government knew about it but no actions taken against him, Rahmani said.

Giving insight about the recent failed attack of Taliban on Ghazni city, Rahmani said that they "Taliban" planned to explode several boom-mobiles and other Death Eaters to storm the scenic provincial capital but security forces foiled the plan.

He said Taliban are now planning to attack Qara Bagh and Moqar districts.

Rahmani's comments come after the Deputy Chief of Staff of Afghan National Army said that they prevented the arrival of Mullah Akhtar Mansour in northern Kundoz province.

General Murad Ali Murad said that Taliban planned to occupy the province's capital for a few days and bring their supreme leader for a presser to show that he is in Afghanistan.

Mullah Akhtar Mohammad Mansour is believed to be in Pakistain.

Security Forces Re-Take Chahardara District Governor's Office
[Tolo News] Security forces have re-taken the district governor's office in Chahardara district of northern Kunduz province after a military operation, local officials said on Wednesday.

Quasim Jangal Bagh, Provincial Police Chief, said that security forces launched the operation on Tuesday night in the center of Chahardara and on the district governor's office early Wednesday.

Jangal Bagh says that security forces continue their military operation to clear all the Lions of Islam in the district but that festivities are ongoing in different parts of the district.

"The security forces have air support in this operation and more troops are on the way to the district," he said.

The local officials said that the Lions of Islam have sustained massive casualties in the operation and one of their commanders named Hanzala was also among the dead. But he said many Taliban members escaped the area.

At Least 6 Killed in Gunmen Ambush in Northern Mali
[ALMANAR.LB] Militants armed with rocket-launchers killed at least six civilians Tuesday in an attack in the Timbuktu region of northern Mali, the government said, in the latest violence to hit the restive country.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility but security sources told AFP that gunnies were behind the incident, which the government slammed as a "terrorist attack".

A government statement said a convoy of civilian vehicles guarded by security forces came under attack around 7:30 am (0730 GMT) on Tuesday around 100 kilometers (60 miles) from Gao, the biggest city in northern Mali.

"The terrorist attack with rocket-launchers caused the death of six civilians and maimed two others including a soldier," the statement published Tuesday evening said.

A security source told AFP the attack began when one of the vehicles hit a mine laid by the hard boys.

Two other civilian vehicles arrived and were damaged before the gunnies came out from their hiding place to fire on the civilians, the source added.

Three lorries employed on behalf of MINUSMA, the UN peacekeeping mission in Mali, arrived at the scene and were set on fire by the Islamist fighters, the security source added.

A UN mission source said "more than six" people had died.

Seven people, including one fighter, were killed Friday in two separate border region attacks blamed on jihadists in Mali and neighboring Burkina Faso

Two Egyptians injured in small bomb attacks in Alexandria
[AlAhram] Two people were maimed when a small bomb detonated in Alexandria on Tuesday night, with another small blast causing damages to a train.

The first blast took place in a shop at the Mahatat Misr train station and damaged the window of a train, an interior ministry official announced via Facebook.

The second small blast occurred in front of Bab Sharq cop shoppe and injured two civilians, the official added.

Small-scale attacks targetting state-owned buidings or cop shoppes have become commonplace in Egypt since the July 2013 ouster of Islamist president Mohammed Morsi.

Last week two people were maimed when a small bomb went off near Cairo's Azbakeya cop shoppe. The blast damaged police vehicles parked outside the building.

A similar incident in September injured two coppers outside a foreign ministry building in the Giza district of Agouza.

Four Killed in Maiduguri, NE Nigeria Blasts
[AnNahar] Four people were killed when three jacket wallahs blew themselves up in a suburb of the northeastern Nigerian city of Maiduguri, the army said on Wednesday.

"The kabooms occurred at three-minute intervals and seven people were confirmed dead, including the three suicide terrorists," said army front man Colonel Sani Usman.

Eleven others sustained "various degrees of injuries", he added.

The jihadist group Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
has been blamed for a spate of attacks in Maiduguri and the wider northeast, aiming at "soft" civilian targets such as mosques, markets and bus stations.

The blasts happened in quick succession in the Ajilari Cross area of the city from 8:10 pm (1910 GMT) on Tuesday, according to local residents.

Ajilari Cross, located close to Maiduguri Airport and a military base on a main route into the city, has been targeted twice in the last month in similar attacks.

On October 1, at least 10 people were killed when four suicide bombers blew themselves up. On September 20, at least 117 were killed in a wave of kabooms.

More than 1,320 people have now been killed in Boko Haram violence since Muhammadu Buhari became president on May 29, according to an AFP tally.

The majority of attacks have been in Borno state, of which Maiduguri is the capital, with this month seeing an increase in the frequency of suicide kabooms.

Three suicide bombers blew themselves up in two satellite towns near the capital Abuja on October 2, killing 18. The police on Tuesday said they had tossed in the slammer
Youse'll never take me alive coppers!... [BANG!]... Ow!... I quit!
the two suspected criminal masterminds.

Usman also said that 10 suspected forces of Evil were killed on Tuesday when troops laid ambush to rebels who attacked the military and Geidam town in the northeastern state of Yobe last week.

"They were ambushed while returning from an attack on Gajiram near Ngollom village," he said.

Two suspected forces of Evil and a soldier were killed while another soldier was maimed on Tuesday morning in festivities at a location in Okene city in central Kogi state, Usman added.

Bangladesh
Bangladesh arrests suspected Myanmar separatist leader
[AA.TR] Bangladeshi law enforcement agencies have detained a suspected leader of one of three gangs banned from neighboring Myanmar's pre-election peace drive in southeastern Bangladesh.

Bangladeshi news website BDnews24.com reported local police officer Wahidullah Sarkar as saying Wednesday that a man who is thought to be Rannin Soe from the separatist Arakan Army group was detained at a local mosque in the Rangamati Hill district.

The Myanmar government has excluded the Arakan Army from peace talks that President Thein Sein hopes will lead to a nationwide cease-fire agreement before the general election.

The man suspected of being Soe is reported to be currently in the custody of the Rajasthali police.

Police say they had been looking for the rebel leader since an August clash between Arakan Army guerrillas and Bangladeshi security forces near the country's shared border, in which a Bangladeshi border guard was killed.

Shortly after, the ethnic Arakanese rebels were reported to have tried to reach out to the Bangladesh government to prevent further fighting.

Soe's associate, On U Raphine -- who was tossed in the calaboose
... anything you say can and will be used against you, whether you say it or not...
in the wake of the August attack and has confessed to being a member of the rebel group -- reportedly provided police with information about the leader in the run-up to Wednesday's arrest.

The Arakan Army is one of a patchwork of insurgencies that have lingered in Myanmar since independence in 1948.

It is one of three groups -- the Arakan Army, the Kokang or Myanmar Nationalities Democratic Alliance Army and the Ta-ang or Palaung National Liberation Army -- unilaterally excluded from the ongoing peace talks as they were involved in heavy fighting with the Tatmadaw (Myanmar army) in the country's north earlier this year.

According to its "official" website, the Arakan Army was founded Apr. 10, 2009 to protect the people of Arakan -- on Myanmar's western coast -- while establishing peace, justice, freedom and development in the region.

Australian Court: NZ Man Guilty of Trying to Fight in Syria
[AnNahar] A New Zealand man could spend up to three decades behind bars after he was found guilty by an Australian court Tuesday of trying to travel to the Middle East to fight in the Syrian conflict.

Amin Mohammed, 25, was convicted by a Victoria Supreme Court jury of three charges of preparing to enter a foreign state to engage in hostile activities.

Experts believe he is the first person in Australia to be found guilty of attempting to fight in Syria on foreign incursions offences. Each charge carries a maximum 10 years' imprisonment.

Foreign incursions offences have been updated as part of new counter-terrorism laws introduced last year aimed at blocking jihadists going overseas to fight. It is now a crime to fight for murderous Moslems on either side of the Middle East conflict.

The government is increasingly concerned about the flow of fighters to Iraq and Syria to join krazed killer groups such as Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. (IS), with some 120 Australians already in the region.

Canberra has also cancelled passports and prevented a number of people from leaving the country on fears they were heading to the Middle East to join IS.

The court heard that Mohammed, an Australian resident who was living in Melbourne, was stopped at Brisbane airport in September 2013 where he told authorities that he planned to travel to The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
en route to visiting his fiancée in Denmark, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation reported.

The prosecution's case was based on phone calls intercepted by police between Mohammed and an alleged Sydney-based recruiter that detailed his plans to travel to Syria to fight against the Assad regime, Melbourne's The Age newspaper added.

It was not reported which gang Mohammed planned to join. He is due back in court for a pre-sentence hearing on December 1.

Another Melbourne man, Hassan El Sabsabi, last month pleaded guilty to two charges of sending money to a man travelling to fight with Lion of Islam group Jabhat al-Nusra
...formally Jabhat an-Nusrah li-Ahli sh-Sham (Support Front for the People of the Levant), also known as al-Qaeda in the Levant. They aim to establish a pan-Arab caliphate. Not the same one as the Islamic State, though .. ...
in Syria.

A handful of other men have been convicted of foreign incursion offences since they were introduced in 1978 -- for supporting groups opposed to governments in Cameroon
...a long, narrow country that fills the space between Nigeria and Chad on the northeast, CAR to the southeast. Prior to incursions by Boko Haram nothing ever happened there...

The Grand Turk
Three top Turkish police fired over Ankara bombings
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Three top Turkish police officials were sacked Wednesday over the weekend's twin blasts in Ankara, as the under-fire president paid homage to the 97 killed in the country's bloodiest attacks.

The Turkish interior ministry said the officials fired included the head of police for the greater Ankara area, as well as his intelligence and public security chiefs, amid accusations of security lapses.

Earlier Wednesday, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan
... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him...
laid a wreath in front of the city's railway station where two jacket wallahs blew themselves up on Saturday in a crowd of leftist and pro-Kurdish activists attending a peace rally.

The government has said ISIS is the prime suspect behind the attack, which also injured more than 500.

Without giving further details, Erdogan said on Tuesday that The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
had received intelligence indicating that the Ankara attack may be linked to Syria, where ISIS Death Eaters have captured swathes of territory up to the Turkish border.

The weekend bombings have raised political tensions to new highs as Turkey prepares for a November 1 snap election, with polarization within the country now greater than ever.

Erdogan has admitted there were security shortcomings but said their magnitude would only be made clear later. He has ordered a top-level probe into the bombings.

There have been growing indications that the authorities are focusing on possible parallels or even links to a July 20 suicide kaboom at a peace rally in Suruc on the Syrian border that killed 34.

The government blamed ISIS for that attack, which also targeted a gathering of pro-Kurdish and leftist activists.

Pakistan Deploys 10,000 Troops to Prevent Sectarian Violence
[AnNahar] Pakistain is deploying some 10,000 troops and 6,000 paramilitary members to prevent sectarian violence during the holy month of Moharram, the interior minister said Wednesday.

Moharram, which begins on Thursday and sees Shiites hold gatherings and processions to mourn the martyrdom of the Prophet Mohammed's grandson Imam Hussain, is frequently marred by sectarian violence, which has risen markedly in recent years.

Clashes between Sunnis and Shiites led to at least 11 deaths two years ago in the garrison city of Rawalpindi, close to the capital Islamabad.

"We have adopted a pro-active strategy like previous years and some 10,000 personnel from the army and another 6,300 from civil armed forces, including Rangers and Frontier Corps
...a provincial paramilitary force. Total manpower is about 80,000. They are tasked to help local law enforcement in the maintenance of law and order, and to carry out border patrol and anti-smuggling operations....
, will be deployed across Pakistain for security during the month of Moharram," Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar told a presser.

Sectarian violence -- in particular by Sunni hardliners against the Shiites that make up roughly 20 percent of Pakistain's 200 million people -- has claimed thousands of lives in the country over the past decade.

In July the leader of an anti-Shiite group behind some of Pakistain's worst sectarian atrocities was killed in a shoot-out with police, along with 13 other murderous Moslems.

Malik Ishaq and his fellow Lashkar-e-Jhangvi
... a 'more violent' offshoot of Sipah-e-Sahaba Pakistain. LeJ's purpose in life is to murder anyone who's not of utmost religious purity, starting with Shiites but including Brelvis, Ahmadis, Christians, Jews, Buddhists, Rosicrucians, and just about anyone else you can think of. They are currently a wholly-owned subsidiary of al-Qaeda ...

They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
bandidos bully boyz were behind a brutal attack that killed 45 Shiites in Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
in May, a Pak official told AFP Monday, despite the government's long-held stance that the jihadist group does not have a presence in the country.

The worst atrocities, however, have been in the southwestern province of Balochistan
...the Pak province bordering Kandahar and Uruzgun provinces in Afghanistan and Sistan Baluchistan in Iran. Its native Baloch propulation is being displaced by Pashtuns and Punjabis and they aren't happy about it...
, home to some 200,000 Shiites.

Shiite gatherings and processions during Muharram mark Hussain's martyrdom in the Battle of Karbala, Iraq, in 680 AD.

Hussain is equally revered by Sunnis, but hardliners oppose the public mourning of his martyrdom.

He said there are two candidates for union council among those killed in the incident.

Soon after the blast security forces cordoned off the area and launched an investigation into the incident.

more than 50 faceless myrmidons 'inspired' by the self-styled Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. (also known by its Arabic acronym Daesh [Islamic State]) which wants a presence in the country.

However,
some men learn by reading. A few learn by observation. The rest have to pee on the electric fence for themselves...
law-enforcement authorities say they are not sure if the local IS operatives are directly linked to the globally declared terrorist outfit.

The investigation arm of police (east zone) came up on Tuesday with a list of 53 suspected faceless myrmidons who operate in a manner bearing the hallmark of Daesh [Islamic State]. They belong to different parts of the country and are based in Karachi.

"The list prepared by the SSP investigation's east office carries the names of the faceless myrmidons and their personal details," said an official. "For instance, a Lion of Islam named Abdullah Yousuf alias Abdul Aziz alias Saqin heads a Lion of Islams' group in Sindh which is inspired by the IS. His aides are Abdullah Mansoori and Misri Pathan of Dera Ismail Khan
... the Pearl of Pashtunistan ...
and Tayyab and Ali Rahman of Karachi who are engineers by profession."

The findings emerged a day after the Senate Standing Committee on Interior was informed that 14 people had been identified and eight of them nabbed
Youse'll never take me alive coppers!... [BANG!]... Ow!... I quit!
, who were allegedly involved in Karachi's Safoora carnage -- the first case of its kind, warning of increased IS footprints in Pakistain.

Officials said that the investigation into the Safoora bus attack led to the findings about the depth of militancy in urban pockets of the country and growing influence of terrorist outfits, mainly among young and educated people.

"The list is actually an outcome of the findings emerged during the investigation into the Safoora carnage," said SSP Amir Farooqi of the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) tasked with intelligence and investigation into terrorism-related incidents.

"The list being mentioned by the media has not been prepared by the CTD, but it obviously has our input and intelligence. We have been actively pursuing bandidos murderous Moslems and their networks in the city and other parts of the province [Sindh]," he said.

The list also points out other banned and terrorist outfits operating in the city with some half a dozen "commanders" and each of them enjoys the assistance of five to six hit-men.

But police authorities say that the 53 faceless myrmidons identified in the list are not necessarily directly linked to Daesh [Islamic State] fighting mostly in Arab countries.

"They are actually inspired by IS's ideology and thoughts," said a police brass hat who did not want to be named.

"They operate on their own and we are not sure if they have any links with Daesh [Islamic State]. We have identified them and assigned our specialised units the task to arrest them. There will be a major breakthrough on these lines soon," the officer said.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Abbas accuses Israel of 'executions' for killing terrorists
Palestinian Authority president Mahmoud Abbas accused Israel on Wednesday of carrying out "filed executions," most likely referring to the Palestinian terrorists who killed or attempted to kill Israelis, including civilians, and were therefore killed by security forces.

"We have the right to self-defense through peaceful resistance,"
attempted murder is peaceful resistance? Where is that 1984 double-think dictionary ...
he said and referred as well to the Temple Mount, saying the Palestinian Authority "won't accept change of status quo at al-Aksa Mosque."

Abbas also said that the PA will file a complaint against Israel with the International Criminal Court in the Hague.
If Israel can prove that Abbas incited the murderous Muslims to knife civilians I would launch my own complaint to the ICC in the Hague.
In response, Deputy foreign minister Tzipi Hotovely said Abbas and his cronies "continue with their lies and incitement." She said his accusations "lay the groundwork for murder and terrorism, sometimes even [encouraging] children to go out and attack."

"The blood of our wounded and murdered citizens
and the assailants killed by the Israeli citizens in legitimate self defense
is on his hands," she said.

Gazans riot near border fence, at least 3 injured
[IsraelTimes] IDF soldiers fire warning shots at Paleostinians who approached barrier in central Strip

Dozens of Paleostinians on Wednesday demonstrated near the border fence separating Israel and the central Gazoo Strip.

IDF soldiers manning the border east of the Bureij refugee camp fired warning shots at two people who approached the fence, injuring them, Ynet reported.

The Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, Health Ministry spokesperson said three people were maimed by live fire from Israel near the border fence. He reiterated the Hamas line urging Paleostinians from refraining from approaching the border fence with Israel.

The incident along the border of the central Gazoo Strip was the latest in a slew of attacks on Israeli security personnel near the security fence.

Israel authorizes sealing off parts of Jerusalem
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Israeli coppers shot a Paleostinian teen at an entrance to Jerusalem's walled Old City for reportedly attempting to stab paramilitary police, Al Arabiya's correspondent reported Wednesday.

The Paleostinian was killed when Israeli police fired 15 gunshots after they suspected he would attack border police outside Jerusalem's Damascus Gate Plaza, the correspondent said.

Television footage showed the Paleostinian clad in military-style camouflage clothing, running with a knife in his hand. Shots are then heard and in other video he appears to be shot again when lying on the ground before an officer calls on his comrades to halt fire.
Ah. So the police suspected that he might do the thing he was already doing, and killed him because he was doing it. Not quite the bigotted, unsupported expectation presented in the previous sentence.
In an another incident, Israeli police spokeswoman Luba Samri said a Paleostinian stabbed and moderately maimed a 70-year-old woman outside Jerusalem's central bus station, at the entrance to the city, before an officer shot him dead.

In a speech broadcast on official Paleostinian television, Paleostinian President the ineffectual Mahmoud Abbas
... a graduate of the prestigious unaccredited Patrice Lumumba University in Moscow with a doctorate in Holocaust Denial...
said Wednesday he favors "peaceful, popular resistance" against Israeli occupation.

Abbas spoke of the Paleostinian people's "right to defend ourselves" and "pursue our national struggle".
But only peacefully and popularly, of course.
On Wednesday, Israel began setting up checkpoints in Paleostinian areas of East Jerusalem.
Under the circumstances, can they do aught else?

The Times of Israel liveblogged events of 10/14
Two hundred West Bank Palestinians have been investigated by Israeli police for rioting, including throwing rocks, molotov cocktails, and explosives; 1/3rd of them are minors. Sadly, one must conclude from images supplied by Legal Insurrection (scroll down) that Palestinians are more likely to set themselves on fire than their targets.

Several knife attacks resulted in the attackers dead or arrested.

In East Jerusalem, nineteen Arabs involved in terrorist attacks will lose their residency permits, which means their families will lose the right to live there and all benefits.

And tired of Gazans bursting through the border fence as they've done in recent days, Israel will be building 62km of much more serious fencing like what was recently finished along the Sinai border.

Iranian MPs arrive in Damascus before joint offensive
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] A delegation of Iranian politicians arrived in Damascus on Wednesday in the build-up to a joint operation against Lions of Islam in northwest Syria, and said U.S.-led efforts to fight rebels had failed.

The visit, led by the chairman of the Iranian parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, Alaeddin Boroujerdi, came as Iranian troops prepared to bolster a Syrian army offensive that two bigwigs told Rooters would target rebels in Aleppo.

The attack, which the officials said would be backed by Russian air strikes, underlined the growing involvement in the civil war of Syrian Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad

"The international coalition led by America has failed in the fight against terrorism. The cooperation between Syria, Iraq, Iran and Russia has been positive and successful," Boroujerdi was quoted as saying by Iran's state broadcaster IRIB as he arrived at Damascus airport.

The delegation was due to meet Assad, said officials.

Iran has sent thousands of troops into Syria in recent days to bolster the planned ground offensive in Aleppo, the two officials told Rooters.

Iran's Tasnim news agency reported two senior officers from Iran's Revolutionary Guards - Major General Farshad Hasounizadeh and Brigadier Hamid Mokhtarband - were killed fighting ISIS turbans in Syria on Monday, though it did not say where.

of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) forces of Evil battled rival krazed killer groups on Wednesday north of the city of Aleppo, where officials say the Syrian army is preparing an offensive of its own backed by Iranian soldiers and Russian jets.

A rebel fighter and a group monitoring the war said ISIS fighters took control of part of the towns of Ahras and Tel Jabin, about 12 km north of Aleppo, before being pushed back.

Gains by ISIS north of Aleppo will threaten the supply lines of rival rebels inside the city, which is divided between turbans and government forces. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the road used by Aleppo residents heading north to the Turkish border remained closed on Wednesday.

"Today there are fierce battles between us and Daesh [Islamic State] in Ahras, Tel Jabin, and rural northern Aleppo," said Hassan Haj Ali, head of the Liwa Suqour al-Jabal rebel group, using another name for ISIS.

His unit is one of several foreign-backed krazed killer forces which find themselves fighting ISIS on the ground, at the same time as they are bombed by Russian jets and are bracing for a broad ground offensive by the army.

"There are mobilizations by the regime in most parts of Aleppo, particularly in Bashkoy," he said, referring to another town north of Aleppo, which before Syria's civil war began in 2011 was the country's biggest city and a major commercial and industrial center.

"There were advances (by ISIS) at dawn but we were able to recover Ahras entirely. There are battles in Tel Jabin," said Ali, speaking to Rooters via an internet messaging system.

Iran has sent thousands of additional troops into Syria in recent days to bolster one offensive that is underway in Hama province and in preparation for another in the Aleppo area, two senior regional officials told Rooters.

IS and Al Nusra call for jihad in Russia as Russian strikes in Syria hit home
Syria's Al-Nusra Calls on Jihadists in Caucasus to Attack Russia

[AnNahar] Al-Nusra chief Abu Mohammed al-Jolani also threatened Moscow, saying its air war would have dire consequences.

"If the Russian army kills the people of Syria, then kill their people," he said late Monday in a call to jihadists in the Caucasus. "And if they kill our soldiers, then kill their soldiers. An eye for an eye."

"The war in Syria will make the Russians forget the horrors that they found in Afghanistan," Jolani said, referring to the disastrous Soviet attempt to subdue the country in the 1980s.

Moscow's strikes have concentrated on areas in northwestern Syria where Al-Nusra has a powerful presence, mostly in the province of Idlib.

IS Urges jihad on Russia, U.S. as Syria Strikes Intensify

[AnNahar] "Russia will be defeated," IS front man Abu Mohammed al-Adnani said in a recording posted online, calling on "Muslims everywhere to launch jihad against the Russians and the Americans", who it said were waging "a crusader war against Muslims".

Russia said Tuesday its air force had hit 86 "terrorist" targets in Syria in the past 24 hours -- the highest one-day tally since it launched its bombing campaign on September 30. Among them, it said, were several IS targets.

"The fighter jets also targeted heights in the city of Idlib from which ISIS turbans coordinated their activities and there was an ammunition depot at the site," said Major General Igor Konashenkov, a spokesperson of the Russian foreign ministry.
