Faryab's Ghormach District Falls To The Taliban
[Tolo News] The Ghormach district of northern Faryab province reportedly fell to the Taliban early Sunday after heavy festivities broke out with security forces, sources told TOLOnews.

A source said on condition of anonymity that the Taliban attacked Ghormach at about 2 am local time and took control of the district governor's compound and the police headquarters after heavy festivities with security forces.

The source said that babus government employees have been moved to a military base in the district which is also now surrounded by Death Eaters.

The source said that "if the troops do not receive air support, the military base will also fall to the Taliban".

However,
if you can't be a good example, then you'll just have to be a horrible warning...
the local security officials have not yet commented on the incident.

Officials Arrest Seven Alleged Child Soldiers in Badakhshan
[Tolo News] Security forces have locked away
Keep yer hands where we can see 'em, if yez please!
12 Lions of Islam in Wardooj district in Badakhshan, seven of whom are allegedly "child soldiers", local officials said on Sunday.

In footage sent to TOLOnews, which was reportedly taken two weeks ago when Wardooj fell to the Taliban, at least three of the detained fighters appear to be below the legal age of 18.

Officials have not however given any details regarding the alleged child soldiers or of their ages.

However,
some people are alive only because it's illegal to kill them...
the acting governor of Badakhshan Shah Waliullah Adib confirmed that the use of child soldiers in Badakhshan is a common practice by hard boys. He said there are many child soldiers in their ranks but he was not able to give exact figures.

Security forces have however since retaken control of Wardooj where at least 23 Lions of Islam were reportedly killed after security forces launched a clearing operation. In addition, 32 security force members were also killed in the battle.

Badakhshan has long been the scene of fierce fighting by Lions of Islam and Wardooj and Baharak districts have fallen a few times to the Taliban.

"The collapse of Wardooj district also resulted in the collapse of Baharak district to the Taliban," Badakhshan MP Zakaria Sawda said, calling for government to pay serious attention to the security situation of the north-eastern province.

This comes after a number of Afghan and international human rights
...not to be confused with individual rights, mind you...
organizations accused the Taliban of having committed war crimes in Kunduz -- which the group over ran for 72 hours after a massive and well-planned attack late last month.

Also, the use of children as "soldiers" is globally denounced and is considered a war crime.

Soldiers Foil Suicide Attack at Nigeria Army Base
[AnNahar] Nigerian soldiers rubbed out a suspected jacket wallah outside a military base in the northeast on Sunday, detonating explosives concealed in her handbag, a civilian vigilante and a military source told AFP.

The target was thought to be the Maimalari army barracks -- the main military base in Maiduguri, which has been hit repeatedly in recent months by Boko Haram

Islamists.

"Soldiers at Maimalari army barracks this morning (Sunday) foiled a suicide kaboom by a female bomber," said Babakura Kolo, from the civilian volunteer force assisting troops against the rebels.

The woman approached the barracks around 7:00 am (0600 GMT) and headed towards the gates, he said. Military guards at the gates shouted at her to stop for security checks but she ignored them and continued walking towards the gates, he added.

"She continued walking with her handbag slung on her shoulder‎, despite repeated shouts from the soldiers asking her stop.

"One of the soldiers opened fire on the woman and the handbag went kaboom!, blowing the woman to pieces."

There were no other casualties in the kaboom, which one military officer in the city described as an "attempted suicide attack by Boko Haram terrorists."

Sudan sends ground troops to Yemen to boost Saudi-led coalition
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] A battalion of Sudanese troops arrived in Yemen's southern port city of Aden on Saturday, military officials said, bolstering Saudi-led Arab forces trying to keep out the Iran-backed Houthis and curb the growing presence of Islamist myrmidons.

Aden, a strategic port and shipping hub, became the seat of the Yemeni government earlier this year after the Houthis, a clan from northern Yemen, seized the capital Sanaa and forced President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi to flee to the south.

A military source in Aden said that 300 Sudanese soldiers and officers arrived by sea on Saturday. Their purpose was to "help maintain security for the city against the Houthis and Saleh," the source said, referring to former President President-for-Life Ali Abdullah Saleh

"The decision has been taken to attend (the talks) and a letter will be sent to the U.N. secretary-general (about that)," Rajeh Badi, the government front man, told Rooters.

Police detain 50 ISIL-linked suspects in Istanbul
[Hurriyet Daily News] Fifty individuals have been detained for alleged links to the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) in Istanbul, the state-run Anadolu Agency has reported, in the wake of the Oct. 10 Ankara bombing that killed at least 102 civilians.

The detained suspects, all of whom were foreign nationals, were detained in a pre-dawn operation against ISIL Lions of Islam on Oct. 18 after Istanbul Police Department Counterterrorism Unit officers raided 17 homes in Pendik, a district on Istanbul's Anatolian side.

Speaking after the deadly twin blasts that killed at least 102 civilians and maimed hundreds of others ahead of a peace rally in the Turkish capital on Oct. 10, Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said ISIL was the focal point in the investigation launched into the deadly bombings.

Ömer Deniz Dundar, allegedly one of the two jacket wallahs in the Ankara blast, and his twin brother, Mahmut Gazi Dundar, had previously been probed by Turkish prosecutors for alleged links to al-Qaeda, but the investigation was dropped, news website Radikal reported on Oct. 16.

The police raids came as the Istanbul Police Department gathered intelligence that newly arrived ISIL-linked suspects were about to head to conflict zones in Iraq and Syria.

The detained suspects were taken to the police department in Istanbul's Fatih district after undergoing health check-ups.

In a separate anti-terror police operation against the outlawed Revolutionary People's Liberation Party-Front (DHKP-C) Lions of Islam in Istanbul, the police department's counterterrorism unit officers raided 16 homes in the districts of Atasehir, Sariyer, Gaziosmanpasa and Sultangazi early Oct. 18, although there was no immediate word of detentions.

A 24-year-old woman identified by the initials D.D. was maimed being shot by a person sharing the same apartment with D.D. as the latter reportedly grabbed a police gun while coppers searched D.D.'s home, Anadolu Agency reported. On the other hand, the victims' brother, Emrah Dogan, speaking to journalists in front of the hospital where D.D. was taken in for treatment, accused the coppers for the shooting, stating that police had directly aimed at his sister.

D.D., who was taken to a public hospital in Istanbul's Okmeydani neighborhood with gunshot wounds to the lungs, is reported to be at death's door.

The Sick Man of Europe Turkey

has stepped up anti-terror police operations against ISIL Lions of Islam in the country, as the Oct. 10 twin blasts in the Turkish capital sent shockwaves through the country, with at least 102 civilians dead and hundreds of others injured.

Thirteen ISIL-linked suspects have reportedly been detained so far within the investigation launched into the Ankara bombing.

Iraq
Iraqi Forces Advance against IS on Three Fronts
[AnNahar] Iraqi forces advanced on three fronts against the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group Sunday, flushing out pockets of resistance in and around Baiji and closing in on Ramadi and Hawijah, officers said.

Iraqi security and allied paramilitary forces last week launched a broad offensive on Baiji, about 200 kilometers (120 miles) north of Baghdad.

The city and nearby refinery -- the country's largest -- have been one of the worst flashpoints since IS launched a sweeping offensive across Iraq's Sunni Arab heartland in June 2014.

Anti-IS forces, including thousands from the Popular Mobilization (Hashed al-Shaabi) force that includes many Tehran-backed Shiite militias, have reconquered most of Baiji and its surroundings.

"They are still combing some neighborhoods of Baiji, including Tamim to the west and the market area in the center," a police brigadier general said.

"There are still a few IS members in there," he said.

"The security forces and Hashed forces took up positions to take control of some neighborhoods in Baiji, searching for bombs and booby-trapped houses," an army major general said.

He described the latest advance in the Baiji area as "the biggest victory since 10th of June 2014," when IS made massive territorial gains with a lightning offensive that saw Iraq's federal forces collapse completely.

Since they launched a counter-attack last year, government and allied forces have retaken all areas south of Baghdad and others north of the capital, including the city of Tikrit.

The government forces pushed past Baiji on the main road leading north to djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
, cutting off IS fighters holding the city of Hawijah, east of the Tigris river.

Army and police, backed by hundreds of Sunni tribal fighters incorporated into the Hashed al-Shaabi, began an operation Sunday aimed at surrounding Hawijah.

"The operation started in two areas, one west of Kirkuk around Al-Fatha and the other south of Kirkuk near Allas oil field," a major general said.

The Kurdish peshmerga forces were not directly involved in this operation but they have made progress of their own in recent weeks, pushing southwest from Kirkuk,
... a thick stew of Arabs, Turkmen, Kurds, and probably Antarcticans, all of them mutually hostile most of the time...
which they control.

A security coordination meeting between federal and Kurdish forces and politicians was held in Kirkuk Sunday, governor Najmeddin Karim said.

Iraqi forces also continued to tighten the noose around Ramadi, the capital of the western province of Anbar, which IS captured in May this year.

Iraq's Counter-Terrorism Service is leading operations around Ramadi, with backing from the security forces, Sunni rustics opposed to IS and U.S.-led coalition air strikes.

"Albu Farraj neighborhood is under full control now. The city of Ramadi is completely isolated from the northern side now," said Major General Ismail Mahalawi, from Anbar Operations Command.

A coalition front man said last week the number of IS fighters still inside Ramadi was estimated at 600 to 1,000.

group killed at least 40 IS gunnies in central Syria at the weekend, a monitoring group said on Sunday.

The Britannia-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said unidentified warplanes hit the 16-vehicles motorcade overnight between Saturday and Sunday in Hama province, killing the myrmidons.

The Observatory, which monitors the war in Syria and has a network of sources on the ground, was not immediately able to say whether the raids were carried out by Russian warplanes or Syrian regime ones.

"But they don't belong to the coalition led by Washington," said Observatory chief Rami Abdel Rahman. Charred bodies of IS fighters were found at the scene, he added.

Syrian regime aircraft bombard almost daily the eastern countryside of Hama where IS has positions.

Abdel Rahman said the convoy was hit as it was heading from the self-declared IS capital of Raqa in northern Syria to the Hama countryside.

, has been carrying out a campaign of air strikes against his opponents since September 30.

Last year, a US-led coalition launched an air campaign against IS which controls swathes of Syria and neighbouring Iraq.

Top Khorasan leader killed in airstrike in Syria
More on this story from yesterday.
[WASHINGTONEXAMINER] A coalition Arclight airstrike in Syria killed the highest ranking leader of the Khorasan Group, the Pentagon announced Sunday.

Abdul Mohsen Adballah Ibrahim al Charekh, aka Sanafi al-Nasr, was a "long-time jihadist" who helped to move money into al Qaeda leaders in Iraq and maintain routes for new recruits to travel to Syria, Pentagon press secretary Peter Cook said in a statement. He was killed in a coalition Arclight airstrike in northwest Syria on Thursday.

In 2012, he was put in charge of al Qaeda's core finances. After relocating to Syria in 2013, he went on to become the highest ranking leader of the Khorasan Group, a network of al Qaeda affiliated terrorist groups, according to the statement.

"The United States will not relent in its mission to degrade, disrupt and destroy al Qaeda and its remnants," Defense Secretary Ash Carter said. "This operation deals a significant blow to the Khorasan Group's plans to attack the United States and our allies, and once again proves that those who seek to do us harm are not beyond our reach."

He is the fifth big shot of the Khorasan Group killed in the last four months.

A U.S. strike in Syria killed the previous leader of the Khorasan Group, Muhsin al-Fadhli, on July 8. He was one of a small group of people who knew about the 9/11 attacks before they were launched, according to the New York Times
...which still proudly displays Walter Duranty's Pulitzer prize...
