Judge rejects Obama's executive privilege claim over Fast and Furious records
An Obama appointed
federal judge has rejected President Barack Obama's assertion of executive privilege to deny Congress access to records pertaining to Operation Fast and Furious, a gunrunning probe that allegedly allowed thousands of weapons to flow across the border into Mexico.

U.S. District Court Judge Amy Berman Jackson ruled Tuesday that the Justice Department's public disclosures about its response to the so-called "gun walking" controversy undercut Obama's executive privilege claim.

"There is no need to balance the need against the impact that the revelation of any record could have on candor in future executive decision making, since any harm that might flow from the public revelation of the deliberations at issue here has already been self-inflicted," Jackson wrote. "The Department itself has already publicly revealed the sum and substance of the very material it is now seeking to withhold. Since any harm that would flow from the disclosures sought here would be merely incremental, the records must be produced."

Jackson said she wasn't questioning the propriety of Obama's claim of privilege, but ruling that the claim could not be sustained in view of other information the Justice Department had released on the topic, chiefly an Office of Inspector General report released in September 2012.

"This ruling is not predicated on a finding that the withholding was intended to cloak wrongdoing on the part of government officials or that the withholding itself was improper," the judge wrote.
No, no, hurruph. Of course not
The administration could appeal the ruling. Spokescriters at the Justice Department and the White House didn't immediately respond
I guess flicking the bird is not considered a response.

#1  "This ruling is not predicated on a finding that the withholding was intended to cloak wrongdoing on the part of government officials or that the withholding itself was improper," the judge wrote.

Oh but of course not. Who would ever attempt to attribute regime 'wrong doing' to 'cloaking' or a cover up.

#2  To paraphrase Andrew Jackson, "Judge Jackson has made her decision. Now let us see her enforce it."

I predict that Obama will simply ignore the order.

#3  Then there is this.

#4  At the end of part two, the video offers this quote from the State Department: "The notion that [it] did not do everything possible to protect our people that night is as offensive as it is wrong."

That is about as wrong as it can get, and by their own words, that makes it just as offensive. A whole bunch of folks need to go to jail for murder and accessory to murder.

#5  Whoops, that was supposed to go under the Attkisson's Benghazi links article.

But it almost applies here, too. Minus the quote, of course.

Sara Palin endorses Donald Trump ahead of Iowa caucuses
[Iran Press TV] Former Alaska governor Sarah Mama Grizzly Palin
... the babe libs love to hate ...
supports Republican front-runner Donald Trump in the 2016 presidential election just days ahead of Iowa caucuses.

The Tea Party sensation voiced support for the billionaire real estate mogul on Tuesday, which could boost the GOP front-runner even further in Iowa on February 1.

"I'm proud to endorse Donald J. Trump for president," Palin said in a statement.

According to The New York Times
...which still proudly displays Walter Duranty's Pulitzer prize...
, Palin's support marks "the highest-profile backing for a Republican contender so far."

The former reality TV star reacted to Palin's support, saying, "I am greatly honored to receive Sarah's endorsement."

"She is a friend, and a high-quality person whom I have great respect for. I am proud to have her support."

#1  Well, the repub establishment treated her like dirt for the last 8 years, and now wonders why she is returning the favor.

I dunno what to think about a president Trump administration. I expect to be deeply disappointed.

OTOH, in comparison to his immediate predecessor....

#2  I don't trust the candidates that are part of the establishment. They've been screwing us and each other for decades. That leaves Trump and Carson.

And Bernie . . . .

#7  This country has strayed to the left so far any turn to the right or common sense seems extreme. I look for violent action against them. Harvey Oswald, David Hinkle socialist left people are the most crazy of us all. George Wallace assassination even that Arthur Bremer fellow. Perhaps even Nixon but the Post and the Democrats were more politically effective(back up plan for Trump).

You said it, they stink on ice.

Ol' Mel sure nailed the aristocratic attitude that the Beltway Party revels in.

#10  The Donkeycrats have done such a bang up job of discrediting Sara Palin that I'm afraid she'll do Trump more harm than good. I love the girl but she is widely perceived as a kooky right-wing fringe type of character more worthy of SNL comedy routines than high office. It'd serve them right if she got elected vice-president but then the comedians would be making fun of her every day for the next eight years. Remember what they did to Dan Quayle? They could have done it to Al Gore just as easily but, of course, they didn't.

#11  Counterfeit Conservative Champions Croney Capitalist
Posted by: DepotGuy || 01/20/2016 12:14 Comments || Top||

#12  I think if Trump was a crony capitalist you'd never hear his name. He'd be standing in the shadows and contributing to either Bush or Clinton or both.
Posted by: Ebbang Uluque6305 || 01/20/2016 13:14 Comments || Top||

#13  My best hope is that Trump is a rent-seeker who was just playing the game by the rules of the system.

Note, that's not my expectation; I hope that Cruz comes through as the best available selection.

#14  He'd be standing in the shadows and contributing to either Clinton or Bush or both.

Don't know if he's ever slid cash to a Bush but he's given plenty to Clinton.

#15  Cruz is so Establishment the Establishment is rallying to support him against Trump.

Ummm ... like, NOT. Seriously NOT. They are warming to Trump because he can be bought, excuse me "do deals". He and McConnell are gonna be YUGE buddies.

#16  He'd be standing in the shadows and contributing to either Clinton or Bush or both.

I believe he did and admits to doing so. As he explains he did that because 'thats the way the world works' and it insures that he can get help no matter who's in the WH. R or D he can call up and make things happen (or not).

#17  OK, but how many givernment contracts did he get for it? He says all he got from Hilary was her attendance at his wedding. shudder Anything that can compare to AIG, Solyndra, CGI, Haliburton, Goldman Sachs? You know what I mean. All those pigs at the trough. The ones who want cheap imported labor and plastic crap from China. They're the ones who are giving Sanders his ammunition. The difference is Sanders would completely dismantle all that. Maybe I'm giving Trump too much credit, but my idea of a true capitalist and not a crony capitalist is someone who believes in free enterprise instead of sweetheart deals with politicians.

#18  Can't deal with Cruz's smirkery, reminds me way to much of my bad side.

#19  Sanders wouldn't dismantle the Bureaucracy that's brought us to all that.
