A-29s to start combat operations with Afghan Air Force from March: Wardak
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The commander of the Afghan Air Force Major General Abdul Wahab Wardak said Thursday that the A-29 Super Tucano light attack aircraft will start combat operations with the Afghan Air Force from the month of March.

During a ceremony "Re-birth of the Afghan Air Force" at Hamid Maybe I'll join the Taliban Karzai
... A former Baltimore restaurateur, now 12th and current President of Afghanistan, displacing the legitimate president Rabbani in December 2004. He was installed as the dominant political figure after the removal of the Taliban regime in late 2001 in a vain attempt to put a Pashtun face on the successor state to the Taliban. After the 2004 presidential election, he was declared president regardless of what the actual vote count was. He won a second, even more dubious, five-year-term after the 2009 presidential election. His grip on reality has been slipping steadily since around 2007, probably from heavy drug use...
International Airport, Gen. Wardak said the Afghan Air Force is expecting to receive a total of 8 A-29 aircraft until March.

Gen. Wardak further added that the Afghan Air Force has so far received four of the eight aircraft from the United States and the remaining four will be handed over in the near future.

He said the aircraft are equipped with cannons, rockets and bombs and will be used to suppress the anti-government armed bully boy groups.

According to Gen. Wardak, the Afghan Air Force is currently operating in four brigades, including two brigades in Kabul
...the capital of Afghanistan. Home to continuous fighting from 1992 to 1996 between the forces of would-be strongman and Pak ISI/Jamaat-e-Islami sock puppet Gulbuddin Hekmayar and the Northern Alliance, a period which won Hek the title Most Evil Man in the World and didn't do much for the reputations of the Northern Alliance guys either....
, one in Herat
...a venerable old Persian-speaking city in western Afghanistan, populated mostly by Tadjiks, which is why it's not as blood-soaked as areas controlled by Pashtuns...
and one in Kandahar province.

He said 14 MD-530 warrior helicopters are currently serving with the Afghan Air Force in 12 provinces of the country.

Gen. Wardak also added that 230 Afghan pilots, engineers and other technical staff are currently being trained abroad while 200 others are studying inside the country.

The A-29 is a multi-role, fixed-wing aircraft that will provide the Afghan air force with an indigenous air-to-ground capability and aerial reconnaissance capabilities to support the country's counterinsurgency operations.

Eight Afghan Air Force pilots completed their training late last year and graduated from a program hosted by the 81st Fighter Squadron at Moody Air Force Base in United States and will return to Afghanistan for combat.

Egypt’s Sisi orders opening of Gaza border crossing on 13,14 Feb
So the next big ISIS in the Sinai attack can be expected in a week or two.
[AlAhram] Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi ordered the opening of the Rafah border crossing, which links Egypt with Gazoo, in both directions on 13 and 14 February, state news agency MENA reported on Friday.

The Rafah border crossing, which is the main entry and exit point to Gazoo, has been mostly closed since October 2014 when a Death Eater attack in North Sinai left over 30 Egyptian security personnel dead.

Public Prosecutor's Office issues arrest warrants for financial corruption
[Libya Herald] The office of the Libyan Attorney General (Public Prosecutor) based in Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
has issued a number of arrest warrants for financial corruption.

The revelation was made at a lengthy presser held yesterday by Sidiq Al-Sour, head of the Investigations Department of the PPO, at Tripoli's Court Complex.

Sour explained some of the major investigations by his department and that have attracted the attention of the general public and gained a lot of media publicity.

These cases included the money laundering / Letters of Credit (LCs) cases through which ''tens of millions'' of FX were allegedly smuggled out of Libya. Sour said that his department had received numerous cases referred to it by the Central Bank of Libya (CBL) and the Audit Bureau.

Sour said that the PPO has issued ''tens of arrest warrants'' for those against whom they have evidence of money laundering or through fake LCs or through false customs duty declarations.

With regards to the notorious ''empty containers'' cases that had attracted much public attention and condemnation, he revealed that the PPO had inspected 50 containers at Tripoli port and that these inspections had revealed that these containers did not contain what they had declared that they were importing.

Tunisia Prepares for Impact of Possible Intervention in Libya
[ALMANAR.LB] Tunisia said Friday that it was asking its regional authorities to work on a plan to cope with the fallout of a possible foreign military intervention in neighboring war-torn Libya.

In 2011, hundreds of thousands of people fled from Libya to Tunisia -- a country of around 11 million -- to escape fighting that led to the fall of longtime dictator Moamer Qadaffy.

Tunisia shares a southeastern border with Libya, where Western powers are openly considering an intervention against the Takfiri

in Iraq and Levant), which has gained influence there in the chaos following Qadaffy's ouster.

"In preparation for the situation developing and its consequences, Prime Minister Habib Essid has authorized governors in the southeast regions to form regional committees," a government statement said.

These will include "the different parties concerned in order to draw up a plan for each governorate to successfully face... exceptional events that could occur," it said, without giving further details.

On Thursday, the health ministry said it had met to discuss "an emergency plan for the health sector... in preparation for the influx on Tunisian soil of refugees and migrants fleeing military air strikes that could occur in Libya."

Last week, President Beji Caid Essebsi issued a warning to countries considering an intervention in Libya.

"Don't just think of your own interests," he said. "Think of the interests of neighboring countries, starting with Tunisia."

"Before any such act, please consult us, because it could serve you, but adversely affect us."

How is Al-Qaeda in Yemen simulating Houthis attacks?
[AlArabiya] The methods of Al-Qaeda in Yemen, which is witnessing an internal coup, is becoming increasingly similar to the Houthi rebels’ approach.

This leads to suggestions of an undeclared cooperation between the two sides, which will increase the challenges to the Yemeni legitimacy.

Saudi Authorities Shut down Husayniyah in Ahsaa, Prevent Friday Prayers
[ALMANAR.LB] Saudi authorities prevented Friday prayers in a Husayniyah in al-Ahsaa governorate, as tensions rise over the execution of prominent holy man, Sheikh Nimr al-Nimr.
Those poor Shiites with no place to worship.
Khabir electronic newspaper reported that the Saudi authorities shut down Rasoul al-Azam mosque in al-Ahsaa, after preventing Sheikh Hussein Radhi from performing Friday prayers there.

The newspaper said that the move comes after Sheikh Radhi slammed the Saudi authorities.

The move also comes after some media reports said that Sheikh Radhi was summoned for questioning, according to Khabir.

Sheikh Radhi slammed the Saudi regime over the execution of Sheikh Nimr, the war on Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of. Except for a tiny handfull of Jews everthing there is very Islamic...

ideology which he considers is widespread in the Saudi Kingdom.

Sheikh Nimr was a vocal supporter of the mass pro-democracy protests against Riyadh, which erupted in Eastern Province in 2011, where a Shia majority has long complained of marginalization.

CBS Confirms Machete Attack Suspect Was In United States On Green Card
Update on this story from yesterday..
CBS News has confirmed from the FBI that the man who attacked a Columbus restaurant Thursday with a machete was living in the United States on a green card.

The motives for the attack by 30-year-old Mohammed Barry remain unclear but Sherlocks are looking for possible ties to Death Eaters.

One of the only two relatives Barry had in Columbus, who only identified himself as Barry's uncle, said Barry was a bit of a loner with a bit of a temper.

"I know that when he gets mad he, that's why he wanted to be by himself," he said.

He said Barry was born in Guinea
...in west Africa between Guinea-Bissau and Mali, and very far from Somalia, where it was originally said Mr. Barry is from. Guinea is 86.7% Muslim...
but that his family, including three sisters, lives in Philadelphia. His uncle said Barry lived with him while looking for a job when he first moved to Columbus from Philadelphia last fall.

The uncle says he knew something wasn't right when he received a strange text message from Barry just five hours before the attack. He says the message was in Arabic and English but didn't understand the meaning. His uncle couldn't show or read the text because he said the FBI now has his phone.

The four victims he attacked with a machete are expected to make a full recovery. Barry was shot and killed by police after fleeing the restaurant.

Somali national in Minnesota to plead guilty in IS case
A Minnesota man accused of conspiring to provide material support to the Islamic State group is expected to plead guilty. Twenty-year-old Abdirizak Mohamed Warsame is scheduled to appear in U.S. District Court on Thursday for a change of plea hearing.

Court documents allege Warsame tried to help other young men from Minnesota’s Somali community travel to Syria to fight for the Islamic State group.

Nine other members of that group were charged previously; one is believed to be in Syria and three have already pleaded guilty. Five others are scheduled to go to trial in May and a hearing in their case is also scheduled for Thursday. That hearing will address several pretrial issues.

Daesh gearing up for chemical attack on US: Clapper
[Iran Press TV] The Daesh [Islamic State] (ISIL) group is seeking to use chemical weapons it has procured against the United States, says the director of US National Intelligence Agency (NIA).

"It is pretty clear that they [Daesh [Islamic State]] have used this [chemical weapons] numerous times, it is very clear aspirationally they would like to do more and it is a concern to us in the United States because the indications are that they would like to use chemical weapons against us," Clapper said.

India-Pakistan
US OKs F-16 jets sale to Pakistan
The US government said it had approved the sale to Pakistan of eight F-16 fighter jets built by Lockheed Martin Corp, radars and other equipment.

The Pentagon's Defense Security Co-operation Agency said it had notified lawmakers about the possible sale, valued at $US699 million ($A987.71 million) on Thursday.
WHY? when are our rulers going to understand that the moral decision while difficult in the short term is a lot better over time???

stop selling weapons to Islamist theocrats. Pakistan is one toe from official sharia hell that already afflicts most of its citizenry. If it spreads sharia, sell it no weapons or technology. No weapons for Saudi. No weapons for Pakistan until they can be dragged kicking and screaming into a secular modern era.

#5  I'd be content with letting the Chinese have Pakistan. Then we can stop sending them billions of dollars in foreign aid every year. Doesn't seem like it buys us a helluva lot of influence when they give aid and comfort to the likes of bin Laden and Zawahiri. As far as I'm concerned, Paks and Chicoms deserve each other.

Come to think of it, how much of that US foreign aid money did they use to buy the F-16s? That's money that goes from the American tax payer to the private pockets of Lockheed and then it gets used to make life difficult for India.

No organised presence of IS in Pakistan, says FO. Really.
[DAWN] Despite intelligence warnings that the murderous Moslem Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(IS) group is an emerging threat, Foreign Office insists that the Middle Eastern terrorist group has "no organised presence" in the country.

"Let me reiterate that there is no organised presence of Daesh [Islamic State], the Arabic acronym for IS, in Pakistain," FO front man Nafees Zakaria said on Thursday.

The new front man, who was holding his first media briefing, was answering a question about the testimony by Aftab Sultan, the chief of the Intelligence Bureau, the lead civilian intelligence agency, before a Senate committee on Wednesday that IS was an emerging threat, particularly because of the support of local terrorist and murderous Moslem organizations, including the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistain, Sipah-e-Sahaba (now operating under the name of Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat
...which is the false nose and plastic mustache of the murderous banned extremist group Sipah-e-Sahaba Pakistain, whatcha might call the political wing of Lashkar-e-Jhangvi...
) and Lashkar-e-Jhangvi
... a 'more violent' offshoot of Sipah-e-Sahaba Pakistain. LeJ's purpose in life is to murder anyone who's not of utmost religious purity, starting with Shiites but including Brelvis, Ahmadis, Christians, Jews, Buddhists, Rosicrucians, and just about anyone else you can think of. They are currently a wholly-owned subsidiary of al-Qaeda ...
IS has been discussed as an emerging threat at different national forums in the past as well.

Speaking at a corps commanders' conference on Wednesday, Army Chief General Raheel Sharif
..Pak chief of army staff, meaning he pulls the strings on the Nawaz Sharif puppet to make it dance and sing and not do much at all....
cautioned about local abettors of terrorists. However,
a person who gets all wrapped up in himself makes a mighty small package...
he did not directly link his observation to IS.

Foreign Office has all along maintained that IS is not a major security threat for the country, but such assertions have failed to quash fears about the group, which has found a foothold in neighbouring Afghanistan and reports about its activities inside Pakistain keep coming.

Several sleeper cells and recruiting rings of IS are said to have been busted by security agencies.

Pakistan is fighting terror war alone, says Ms Rehman
[DAWN] Pakistain is fighting one of the largest inland wars on terrorism alone, says Senator Sherry Rehman.

"I don't see anyone else stepping up to resource this battle, although this is hardly strategic justice," she said at a seminar here at the School of Advanced International Studies, John Hopkins University.

Senator Rehman, who is also a former Pak ambassador to the US said that after the bloodbath in Beautiful Downtown Peshawar
...capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (formerly known as the North-West Frontier Province), administrative and economic hub for the Federally Administered Tribal Areas of Pakistan. Peshawar is situated near the eastern end of the Khyber Pass, convenient to the Pak-Afghan border. Peshawar has evolved into one of Pakistan's most ethnically and linguistically diverse cities, which means lots of gunfire.
and Charsadda where students were targeted, the international community "cannot just watch as forces of Evil continue to kill" innocent Paks.

Speaking on "Building Pakistain's Peace and Security," she said, "We are not laying the blame on other countries, nor do we get into finger-pointing about whose ungoverned spaces provide sanctuary for which high-value target".

"But terrorism is now a global epidemic, and the international community needs to build a lasting multi-lateral coalition against it," she said.

Ms Rehman said violent extremism was not something that could be contained by "kinetic means alone. It must be addressed as a hearts-and-mind challenge".

She said this meant facing up to the reality that had caused policy miscalculations both at home and abroad.

"Pakistain is now in a serious long-haul battle pitched between Jinnah's Pakistain and Zia's Pakistain," said the PPP leader while pointing out that the mainstream Pakistain still "votes for Jinnah and his vision".

'We do not vote in religious parties to the PM's office, and we are now looking to reverse the extremism that has crept into society at the hands of a dictator we neither chose nor coddled," she said.

Her host, Dean Vali Nasr, who is also a former adviser to the US State Department, appreciated Pakistain parliament's decision to stay out of the Middle East's sectarian conflict.

Noting China's enhanced role in the region which Ms Rehman saw as a net positive for economic stability, especially with the growing need for jobs in a large youth cohort.

"I hope a political settlement for Afghanistan is not just a bumper sticker, and that Pakistain will not be left with the fallout of this long war next door again," she said.

She noted that 30 years ago the US-led coalition won the war in Afghanistan, but lost the peace.

"This time it looks like nobody is winning the war or the peace, which is unsettling for all stakeholders in inclusive, progressive societies," she said.

Ms Rehman said Pakistain was not treating Afghanistan as its strategic backyard anymore, but its "refugee issue always becomes a niche conversation, while the rest of the globe closes its borders, we have kept our border and our cities open for all those ravaged by wars."

Iraq
Build up to Mosul: Former ISIS sex slaves now army of ‘Sun Ladies’ ready to defeat terror group
[FoxNews] They witnessed the slaughter of their families on Mount Sinjar, and then were forced by ISIS into sexual slavery. Now the "Sun Ladies" are ready to fight - for veangeance as well as survival.

Some 2,000 Yazidi women who were captured in the brutal August 2014 attack on their mountain stronghold have escaped and have taken up arms against their former tormentors. Driven by the fresh memories of unspeakable atrocities and the survival of their people, hundreds have signed up to fight the black-clad terrorist army.

"Now we are defending ourselves from the evil; we are defending all the minorities in the region," Capt. Khatoon Khider told FoxNews.com from the unit's makeshift base in Duhok, Iraq. "We will do whatever is asked of us."

Khider is one of 123 Yazidi women who have undergone training and taken their place alongside the Kurdish Peshmerga forces, as they skirmish almost daily with ISIS and prepare for a looming assault on the terrorist army's Iraqi base in djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
. The women range in age from 17 to 37, and there are another 500 who are awaiting training.

Khider had no experience with weapons or combat when she approached the Peshmerga senior command and proposed the idea of a specialized all-female Yazidi force after having survived the assault on Mount Sinjar. She hopes that in forming the force, the women will be able to protect themselves and inspire other minority groups to follow suit.

"Our elite force is a model for other women in the region," she said. "We want to thank all the other countries who help us in this difficult time, we want everyone to take up weapons and know how to protect themselves from the evil."

The women willfully stepped into the line of fire as a support force to the Peshmerga on Nov. 13, the day the Kurdish forces took back their hometowns and villages from ISIS occupation. The newly formed unit engaged in direct combat and later helped clear streets and buildings rigged with explosives.

As with the Christians, Kurds and Iraqi military, they know the imminent battle to retake Mosul will be the real test. Iraq's second-largest city, Mosul is the terrorist group's regional base. Most of the Yazidi women who escaped ISIS were held in Mosul and can help provide valuable intelligence, as well as boots on the ground. And fighting to free those left behind provides added motivation.

"We have a lot of our women in Mosul being held as slaves," Khider said. "Their families are waiting for them. We are waiting for them. The liberation might help bring them home."

But one prospect frightens the Yazidi women as they prepare to fight ISIS. Yazidi boys kidnapped from Mount Sinjar have been drugged and brainwashed, and could now be fighting their mothers and sisters under the black flag of ISIS.

"Now there will be terrorist Yazidis, something that never used to be," Khider added. "But we have many missions left. We will do whatever is needed."

#1  "Our elite force is a model for other women in the region,"

A seperate and distictive Yazidi Army Womans Corps (YAWC), how innovative and professional. Probably a "model" outside the region as well...unless I missed the part about 12 weeks maternity leave and breast feeding rooms.

#2  Harsh Dude.
They're already outcasts in their own villages because of archaic beliefs and abuse. It's good if they can form support groups, whatever the claimed purpose. If they can shoot, that much better.

#3  Beso, how far "outside" the region are you thinking?

Maybe somewhere to the north west? Maybe round about, oh say, Cologne?

Build up to Mosul: Iraqi Army forces arrive in Makhmour
[Rudaw] A convoy of Iraqi soldiers arrived, as planned, on the Makhmour front on Thursday. Kurdish officials said the deployment is in cooperation with locals.

The military brigade is reportedly from the Iraqi Army's 15th Division which is being deployed on the Makhmour front as part of the preparations underway for the long-anticipated operation to force Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. (ISIS) forces of Evil from djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
, the Iraqi commander for the Mosul operation Najmadin Jbouri told a presser.

Speaking to Rudaw Najat Ali, the top Kurdish commander on that front, said that Iraqi soldiers were permitted entry and the deployment was in done in coordination with Peshmerga forces.

"The brigade is here for the Mosul operation and will leave the region after that," Ali explained.

Meanwhile,
...back at the revival hall, Buford bit the snake and Eloise began speaking in tongues...
Iraq's defense ministry said earlier this week that it would deploy some 4,500 soldiers to the Makhmour front for the Mosul operation. The majority of the forces are reportedly Sunni Arabs trained by Americans and coalition forces.
An Nahar quantifies:
AFP correspondents at the base in Makhmur, around 70 kilometers (45 miles) southeast of djinn-infested Mosul, saw 700 soldiers from the 15th division arrive late Thursday.

More soldiers were deployed there on Friday, said an officer who is part of the security command tasked with retaking Nineveh province, of which Mosul is the capital, from the Islamic State group (IS).

A ceremony was held to mark their deployment in Makhmur, which is within territory controlled by Iraq's autonomous Kurdish government.

Iraqi officers have said the plan was to increase the number of federal Iraqi forces in Makhmur to 4,500.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Terror attacks in Israel drop back to pre-escalation level
[IsraelTimes] Shin Bet reports 169 Paleostinian attacks in January, down from 246 in December; lowest numbers since July 2015
Let us hope this thing has burnt out for a while.
The number of terrorist attacks recorded in Israel last month decreased by 32 percent over December, bringing the total to a level that was last observed prior to September's escalation in violence.

The Shin Bet security service documented 169 terrorist attacks by Paleostinians on Israelis in January, compared to 246 such incidents the previous month, the Shin Bet wrote in its monthly report, which it published earlier this week.

It is the first time since July that the number of attacks dropped below the 171 mark observed in August, according to Shin Bet's figures. In September, October and November, Shin Bet recorded 223, 620 and 326 attacks respectively.

In October, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called the escalation "a terror wave." It was widely referred to in the Paleostinian media as "the third intifada."

While the overall number of attacks diminished, they proved deadlier last month than in August and July, when no Israelis died as a result of terrorist attacks and fewer than 10 were maimed.

Five Israelis were killed in terrorist attacks last month, compared to only three in December and one person in September. In November and December, 11 and 10 Israelis died in such attacks, respectively.

Dozens of Paleostinians were also killed during the escalation, many of them by security forced or armed civilians while they were carrying out attacks.

Of the 169 incidents recorded in January, 136 involved the hurling of Molotov cocktails at soldiers or civilians.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
New report estimates that Syrian war has killed 470,000 people
War is hell, and estimates based on a known minimum and a variety of guesses are worth what you just paid for this one, dear Reader.
[Rudaw] The Guardian newspaper in Britannia quoted new research carried out by the Syrian Center for Policy Research (SCPR) on Thursday which estimates the five-year war in that country has killed 470,000 people in total.

Previous estimates had put the figure at approximately 250,000 dead. The UN put the number dead at that figure but has stopped counting since August 2015.

SCPR says that 400,000 of its estimated deaths were a direct result of the violence of the Syrian war while the other 70,000 fell victim to lack of proper health or access to clean water and medicine which was brought on by the war.

In addition to almost half-a-million deaths the report estimates 1.9 million people have been maimed. Thanks to this war life expectancy in Syria has declined from 70 in 2010 to 55.4 in 2015.

Iran's windfall from nuclear deal cut in half by debts
[Ynet] Iran gained access to about $100 billion in frozen assets when an international nuclear agreement was implemented last month, but $50 billion of it already was tied up because of debts and other commitments, a U.S. official said on Thursday.
Better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick, I s'pose.
Stephen Mull, the State Department's lead coordinator for implementing the international nuclear agreement with Tehran, also told the House Foreign Affairs Committee there was no evidence Iran had cheated in the first few weeks since the deal was implemented.
What is not looked for will never be found.

He said that it would be possible to "put an end to this problem in less than a year" if all terrorists' supply routes from The Sick Man of Europe Turkey

The agreement was signed on Friday following a meeting of the International Syrian Support Group (ISSG) in the German city of Munich.

Speaking at the 52nd Munich Security Conference (MSC) on Friday, Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir called Assad the "single most effective magnet for Lions of Islam and faceless myrmidons in the region," claiming that his removal was vital for restoring stability in the country and defeating the Daesh [Islamic State] terrorist group, which has captured parts of Syria and neighboring Iraq.

"That (Assad's ouster) is our objective and we will achieve it," Jubeir said. "Unless and until there is a change in Syria, Daesh [Islamic State] will not be defeated in Syria, period," he argued.

reiterated the resistance's readiness to confront any Israeli war against Leb.

In an interview with al-Nour radio station on Friday, Sheikh Qassem said that the "Zionist entity is preparing its internal front for any future war with Hezbollah through the continuous threats by Israeli officials."

In this context, Sheikh Qassem stressed that Hezbollah "is ready to any war," noting that the "resistance has prepared to face all the possible scenarios."

On the Saudi intervention in Syria, Hezbollah Deputy Chief said that Riyadh doesn't have its own project or plan concerning Syria, stressing that "it is just a part of the American scheme in the region."

"The US has neither plan A nor plan B. Its only plan is to go ahead with the political solution in Syria," Sheikh Qassem told as-Siyassah al-Yawm (Politics Today) program on Friday.

Assad: Talks Don't Mean to Stop Fighting Terrorism
[ALMANAR.LB] As he said he supports peace talks aimed at finding solution to the Syrian crisis, Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Trampler of Homs...
stressed that negotiations don't mean to stop fighting terrorism.

In an interview with Agence La Belle France Presse (AFP), Assad said the Syrian government has "fully believed in negotiations and in political action since the beginning of the crisis."

Syrian President Bashir al-Assad"However,
the way to a man's heart remains through his stomach...
if we negotiate, it does not mean that we stop fighting terrorism. The two tracks are inevitable in Syria."

Speaking at his office in Damascus on Thursday, Assad has vowed to retake the entire country but warned it could take a long time.

He said his government's eventual goal was to retake all of Syria, noting: "regardless of whether we can do that or not, this is a goal we are seeking to achieve without any hesitation," he said.

"It makes no sense for us to say that we will give up any part," Assad added.

The Syrian president said it would be possible to "put an end to this problem in less than a year" if opposition supply routes from The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
, Jordan and Iraq were cut."

But, if not, he said, "the solution will take a long time and will incur a heavy price."

Talking about the major offensive under way in the northern province of Aleppo, Assad said it was aimed mainly at severing the Takfiri
...an adherent of takfir wal hijra, an offshoot of Salafism that regards everybody who doesn't agree with them as apostates who must be killed...
myrmidons' supply route from Turkey.

"The main battle is about cutting the road between Aleppo and Turkey, for Turkey is the main conduit of supplies for the terrorists," he said.

Assad said he saw a risk that Turkey and Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
, key backers of the opposition, would intervene militarily in Syria.

He also addressed the massive flow of refugees from his country, saying it was up to Europe to stop "giving cover to terrorists" so that Syrians could return home.

Assad said the blame for the refugees influx lay at Europe's feet.
"I would like to ask every person who left Syria to come back," he said.

"They would ask 'why should I come back? Has terrorism stopped?'"

Instead, he urged Europe's governments "which have been a direct cause for the emigration of these people, by giving cover to murderous Moslems in the beginning and through sanctions imposed on Syria, to help in making the Syrians return to their country."

Meanwhile,
...back at the barn, Bossy was furiously chewing her cud and thinking...
the Syrian president Assad rejected UN allegations of regime war crimes, describing them as politicized and lacking evidence.

Terror Networks
U.S. sanctions three for Islamic State activities
[Ynet] The U.S. Treasury blacklisted three people on Thursday for working for Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
, including one it said was a senior oil official and another it said had recruited Gulf nationals for the murderous Moslem group as early as March 2014.

One of those sanctioned is Faysal Ahmad Ali al-Zahrani, a Saudi citizen, who the Treasury said is responsible for Islamic State's oil and gas activities in areas of northeastern Syria.

Husayn Juaythini, born in a refugee camp in Gazoo, was also sanctioned and was trying to establish a foothold for Islamic State in Gazoo, the Treasury said.

The third man, Bahraini citizen Turki al-Binali, helps Islamic State recruit imported muscle, and as of March 2014, led a support network that recruited Gulf nationals to join Islamic State in Syria, the department said.

Carter: UAE to Deploy Special Forces, Jets in Anti-ISIL Campaign
[ALMANAR.LB] Pentagon chief Ashton Carter said Friday that the United Arab Emirates wants to deploy commandos to help train forces fighting Takfiri

faceless myrmidons of ISIL (so-called Islamic State

in Iraq and Levant) and will resume its contribution to the US-led air campaign.

Carter met top UAE officials in Brussels following a landmark summit of anti-ISIL coalition members to discuss ways to step up the fight against the Takfiri group in Iraq and Syria.

"They indicated to me their willingness to do more, which is important, specifically to re-start their participation in the air campaign, secondly to work with us on the ground," Carter said.

UAE special operations forces would help train and advise -- as well as arm -- anti-ISIL forces in Syria and local partners in Iraq, including Sunni groups and the Kurdish Peshmerga, Carter said, but did not say how big the force would be.

"What is needed in the Sunni parts of Iraq is capacity among moderate Sunnis to re-occupy and govern that territory and keep a multi-sectarian Iraq together," Carter said. "The Emiratis can be an important part of that."

Carter's remarks come as world powers met in Munich on Friday and agreed an ambitious plan to cease hostilities in war-racked Syria.

But the Pentagon chief said Munich accord will not apply to ISIL and Al-Qaeda's local branch. "There is no ceasefire in the war against ISIL," Carter said, adding: "be clear about that."
