Pakistani incursions on agenda as top security officials visit eastern provinces
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] Top security officials from the Ministry of Interior and Ministry of Defense visited eastern Kunar and Nangarhar
The unfortunate Afghan province located adjacent to Mohmand, Kurram, and Khyber Agencies. The capital is Jalalabad. The province was the fief of Younus Khalis after the Soviets departed and one of his sons is the current provincial Taliban commander. Nangarhar is Haqqani country..
province ot review the security situation as well as cross-border incursions by Pakistain.

The Ministry of Interior (MoI) said the delegation of the top security officials is led by the commander of the border protection police forces Gen. Abdul Fatah Frogh.

A statement by MoD said Gen. Mohammad Afzal Aman accompanied the delegation from the Ministry of Defense during the visit to Kunar and met with the provincial governor Alhaj Wahidullah Kalimzai, commander of the border protection forces Gen. Wali Khan Shenwari, provincial police chief Gen. Abdul Habib Syed Kheli, NDS chief and the commander of the second division of 201st Corps of the Afghan National Army.

Following the review of security situation and report on recent cross-border incursions by Pak military, the commander of the border protection forces Gen. Frogh said the security forces have been instructed to respond to any future cross-border violation.

He said the Afghan forces are currently in better condition in terms of moral and equipment and are able to defend from the borders and national illusory sovereignty of the country.

Meanwhile,
...back at the dirigible, the pilot and the copilot had both hit the silk.

Jack! Cynthia exclaimed. Do you know how to drive one of these things?

Jack wiped some of the blood from his knuckles.

No, he said. Do you?...

a local tribal elder in Goshta district of eastern Nangarhar province, Malik Nadir Khan pledged support to the Afghan government and security forces.

He said the cross-border incursions by the Pak military have created problems for the local residents which continue since three years, forcing almost 200 families to abandon the area.

The cross-border incursions by Pak military intensified during the recent weeks and in its latest provocative move, the Pak military helicopters enter the Afghan air space in eastern Kunar province
... which is right down the road from Chitral. Kunar is Haqqani country.....
and dropped several bombs in certain areas earlier this month.

The provocative move by the Pak military sparked anger among the Afghan people and officials with the former Afghanistan's Caped President Hamid Maybe I'll join the Taliban Karzai
... A former Baltimore restaurateur, now 12th and current President of Afghanistan, displacing the legitimate president Rabbani in December 2004. He was installed as the dominant political figure after the removal of the Taliban regime in late 2001 in a vain attempt to put a Pashtun face on the successor state to the Taliban. After the 2004 presidential election, he was declared president regardless of what the actual vote count was. He won a second, even more dubious, five-year-term after the 2009 presidential election. His grip on reality has been slipping steadily since around 2007, probably from heavy drug use...

Gulbuddin’s party wants ‘power-sharing’ with Kabul in exchange for peace
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The Hezb-e-Islami party led by the notorious holy warriors leader Gulbuddin Hekmatyar
... who used to be known in intelligence circles as The Most Evil Man in the World but who now seems merely run-of-the-mill evil...
is seeking power-sharing with the Afghan government in exchange for peace deal, it has been reported.

The Afghan high peace council is busy negotiating peace deal with the delegation of Hezb-e-Islami party sent by Hekmatyar on 17th March.

According to the officials privy to the development, the party is seeking positions in the civil and security institutions of the country.

"At this stage, Hezb-e Islami is seeking to become a government partner by seeking positions in civil and security institutions," an Afghan official told RFE/RL on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak about the ongoing talks.

The official further added that the government was "listening and evaluating the practicality of their demands," but that a final decision had not been made.

The Hezb-e-Islami was the first myrmidon group to show a green light towards calls for peace talks following the conclusion of the last Quadrilateral Coordination Group meeting which called on the myrmidon groups to start direct talks with the Afghan government.

"The QCG member states invite all Taliban and other groups to participate through their authorized representatives in the first round of direct peace talks with the Afghan government expected to take place by the first week of March 2016," according to a joint statement by QCG.

The call by Hezb-e-Islami party to participate in peace talks and sending the party’s delegation to Kabul
...the capital of Afghanistan. Home to continuous fighting from 1992 to 1996 between the forces of would-be strongman and Pak ISI/Jamaat-e-Islami sock puppet Gulbuddin Hekmayar and the Northern Alliance, a period which won Hek the title Most Evil Man in the World and didn't do much for the reputations of the Northern Alliance guys either....
for the talks was welcomed by the Afghan officials amid hopes that the move would encourage other myrmidon groups to join the talks.

However,
death is not the end. There remains the litigation over the estate...
the Talibs group rejected the offer and said the group will not participate in the peace talks, reiterating its preconditions for the talks which include the complete withdrawal of the foreign forces from the country.

Arabia
Famine threatens half of Yemen
Nearly half of Yemen’s 22 provinces on the verge of famine as result of the war there and more than 13 million people need food aid, the U.N. World Food Programme (WFP) says.

Aid groups have blamed curbs imposed by the Saudi-led coalition on access to Houthi-controlled ports for the crisis and also accuse Houthis of preventing supplies from reaching some areas, including the city of Taiz in the southwest.

“From a food security perspective, 10 of Yemen’s 22 provinces are classified as emergency, which is one step before famine,” Adham Musallam, deputy director of the WFP office in the capital Sanaa, said as the agency launched a food voucher program to help the most needy.

Fighting over the past year has displaced about 2.3 million people and left more than half of Yemen’s 26 million population in need of food aid, Musallam said.

“This means that we must not wait until the situation reaches famine but must act now to provide humanitarian aid directly,” Musallam said.

The Houthis took over Sanaa in September 2014, ousting President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi, then seized his temporary headquarters in the southern port city of Aden.

The Saudi-led Arab coalition intervened in March 2015 to try to restore Hadi to power and roll back Houthi gains. More than 6,200 people have been killed in the conflict, half of them civilians.

To counter the food crisis, the WFP has launched a program of emergency food vouchers to provide up to one million people with basic needs eventually.

In Sanaa, which is still under Houthi control, hundreds of people queued for hours to register for the vouchers. Under the program a family of six receives wheat grain, pulses, vegetable oil, salt and sugar provided by the WFP through a local supplier.
But one Sanaa resident expressed concern that the aid might not be sustained.

“We would like to have rations provided for the entire month, not just for a week or five days,” he told Reuters TV.

Many Yemenis have sought refuge in Sanaa after air strikes by the Saudi-led coalition destroyed their homes, especially in northern Yemen, where the Houthis, a Zaydi Shi’ite group, come from.

Perhaps Vladimir Zhirinovsky and Obama have parallel views on Euro terrorism
[Newsweek] Attacks on European countries are beneficial for Russia, the leader of the nationalist Liberal Democrat party told Russian state television on Tuesday night.

Vladimir Zhirinovsky, known for his anti-Western views, spoke on the popular panel show "An Evening with Vladimir Solovyev" hours after blasts killed at least 31 people in Brussels. In his trademark bombastic style, the former deputy speaker of parliament took the floor and urged Russians not to express sympathy for the victims.

"Terrorists attacks are happening in Europe and they will spread all over it," Zhirinovsky shouted at other panelists. "That is beneficial for us. Let them perish and die."

Zhirinovsky’s rationale was that after such attacks European countries would see Russia as an ally and align themselves with Moscow. “Let them then come to us and beg us,” Zhirinovsky said.

Muslim woman rips up Israeli flag at Brussels makeshift memorial
Perpetrated by Muslim men, supported by Muslim women.
A French-language television station captured footage of a woman wearing a hijab ripping up an Israeli flag at a makeshift memorial for the victims of Tuesday’s bombings in Brussels.

The images were captured by the RTL television network and disseminated on the web and social media.

The incident took place at the vigil that was set up in the central Brussels landmark Place de la Bourse.

In the clip, the woman is seen sifting through the flags that were lining the pavement. After lifting a Palestinian flag, she then spots an Israeli flag and begins tearing it up. She then buries the ripped shards underneath other flags.

This Detail About How The Suspected Brussels Suicide Bombers Wore Their Gloves Might Have Been A Giveaway
The Belgian prosecutor's office has confirmed that the three men in this CCTV footage are suspects in the investigation of the Brussels attacks.

And this picture reveals an important detail that might have given them away.

The two men dressed in black are believed to have carried out the suicide bombings. They are wearing only one glove on their left hand.
Big Michal Jackson fans maybe?
According to the Belgian news site La Libre, the single glove could have helped them hide a detonator. A security expert also told Sky News that the matching gloves could be a clue about which device was used.

The man in white on the right is suspected of being an attacker and is being actively sought by the police. He was named on Wednesday morning as Najim Laachraoui.

In addition to wearing a different colour scheme, Laachraoui does not seem to be wearing a glove. It is not clear whether the fact that all three chose to use luggage carts is significant. It is unclear whether there were explosives on those trolleys. An unexploded suicide vest and a Kalashnikov were also found at the airport.

The attacks on the Belgian capital on Tuesday killed at least 30 people and left hundreds more injured. Two explosions ripped through the Zaventem Airport, and another explosion rocked the Maelbeek metro station in the centre of Brussels.

Brussels Bomber Left Frantic Will In Trash Can: 'I don't know what to do'
A hastily written will by one of the suspected Brussels bombers has given some insight into the lives the extremists were living before their devastating attacks on Brussels' airport and a metro station on Tuesday, Newsweek reports.

The will was discovered on attacker Ibrahim el-Bakraoui's computer in a trash can in Brussels. "I don't know what to do, hunted everywhere, no longer safe," the note said, according to Federal Prosecutor Frederic Van Leeuw.
You know, if your human side is whispering hints like this to you, you should try something different.
The will also expressed fear for Salah Abdeslam, the Paris attacker who was captured in Brussels last Friday. "I don't want to end up in a cell next to him," Bakraoui said in his note.

Ibrahim el-Bakraoui's brother, Khalid el-Bakraoui, was also one of the attackers in Tuesday's bombings. A third attacker, who has been identified as Najim Laachraoui, is said to be on the run.

The two explosions at Zaventem airport, plus a third at a metro station, killed at least 31 people and wounded about 270 others. ISIS has claimed responsibility for the attack.

I encourage anyone who can read these words and has the agency to effect change, put up a suicide bomber hotline ad in the subway station your children use, and on the internet where little miss jihad can find it. Let every abu'jihad call in and ask for help rather than not.

Based on this report from the field, we can create an environment where their agents become our agents. And we should.

Erdogan: We deported Brussels terrorist to Belgium, which freed him
[IsraelTimes] One of the bandidos holy warriors who carried out attacks Tuesday that killed more than 30 people in Brussels was caught in The Sick Man of Europe Turkey

Erdogan said the man was detained at Turkey’s border with Syria at Gaziantep and that Turkey formally notified Belgian authorities of his deportation on July 14.

Erdogan said "despite our warnings that this person was a foreign terrorist fighter, Belgium could not establish any links with terrorism."

Did taxi dispatcher mix-up limit Brussels bombing?
[Reuters] A mix-up by a Brussels taxi dispatcher may have prevented more carnage at the city's airport on Tuesday, Belgium's DH newspaper reported, saying the cab firm sent a smaller car to pick up the bombers than the one ordered.

When the driver turned up in a saloon [i.e. sedan], the three found they could not fit all four heavy holdalls into the trunk. They left one behind.
For want of a nail... Let us be grateful it was not a great deal worse.
After the taxi driver called police to relate the tale, they found a large nail bomb in the apartment in the borough of Schaerbeek and defused it. Police had no comment on the report.

Poland PM Refuses to Take in Migrants after Brussels Attacks
[An Nahar] Polish Prime Minister Beata Szydlo on Wednesday said Warsaw would not take in its share of migrants colonists under an EU plan because of the jihadist attacks that killed 31 people in Brussels.

Poland is the first EU member to take such a step after Tuesday's bombings at the Brussels airport and metro, which also left 270 maimed -- including three Poles -- and were claimed by the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. group.

"After what happened in Brussels yesterday, it's not possible right now to say that we're OK with accepting any number of migrants colonists at all," Szydlo told private television Superstacja.

Her conservative and euroskeptic Law and Justice (PiS) government had earlier been willing to welcome the 7,000 refugees agreed by its liberal predecessors under Ewa Kopacz.

Europe is grappling with its worst migrant crisis since World War II. Last year alone some 1.2 million people flooded into the EU, most of them Syrians fleeing via The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
and Greece.

"We're forced above all to ensure the security of our fellow citizens," Szydlo said, urging Europe against accepting "thousands of migrants colonists who come here only to improve their life conditions."

Among these migrants colonists "there are also terrorists."

The first refugees were due to arrive in Poland in late March or early April, after EU leaders forced through a one-off controversial deal last September to relocate 120,000 refugees among member states.

My mother's male cousins and her first husband basically did that during the Nazi era. They dropped off sisters and parents who'd got out with them, joined the military of whichever country provided asylum, and went back to destroy the Nazi beast. They all checked in at the Amsterdam fraternity house that had been hiding my grandparents, among others, then kept going until the war was won.

Angela Merkel hoped to get wage slaves to replace the ones the Germans hadn't been giving birth to, which is the other reason she encouraged the young-men-first migration.

Belgians Cannot 'Eat Chocolate' and Fight Terror, Says Israeli Minister
[An Nahar] Israel's intelligence minister accused Belgian leaders of laxity Wednesday over the threat posed by homegrown Muslim radicals, the second cabinet member to hit out after the deadly bombings in Brussels.

"If in Belgium they continue to eat chocolate, enjoy life and parade as great liberals and democrats while not taking account of the fact that some of the Muslims who are there are organizing acts of terror, they will not be able to fight against them," Yisrael Katz told public radio.

Katz charged that not only European leaders but also U.S. President Barack Obama
teachable moment...
had undermined the battle against jihadist violence with their unwillingness to define it as "Islamic terrorism".

"When you don't define your enemy, you can't lead a worldwide campaign," he said.

Katz, who is also transport minister, is a member of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's right-wing Likud and widely seen as his principal rival within the party.

He has taken a hawkish position on the wave of violence that has rocked Israel and the Paleostinian territories since October, calling for the families of Paleostinians implicated in attacks to be sent to Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason,-ruled Gazoo as a deterrent.

On Tuesday, another Likud member -- Science, Technology and Space Minister Ofir Akunis -- lashed out at Europe after the Brussels bombings, accusing it of ignoring the danger of "Islamic terror cells" and focusing on criticising Israel instead.

"Many in Europe have preferred to occupy themselves with the folly of condemning Israel, labeling products, and boycotts," Akunis said on his Facebook page.

"In this time, underneath the nose of the continent's citizens, thousands of Death Eater Islamic terror cells have grown."

Those comments drew a rebuke from Israeli opposition leader Isaac Herzog, who accused Akunis -- a Netanyahu ally -- of "miserable cynicism".

Brussels bomber brothers identified
[Dhaka Tribune] Belgium’s chief prosecutor named two brothers on Wednesday as Dae’sh jacket wallahs who killed at least 31 people in the most deadly attacks in Brussels’ history but said another key suspect was on the run.

The federal prosecutor told a news conference that Ibrahim El Bakraoui, 29, one of two men who blew themselves up at Brussels airport on Tuesday, had left a will on a computer dumped in a rubbish bin near the murderous Moslems’ hideout.

In it, he described himself as "always on the run, not knowing what to do anymore, being hunted everywhere, not being safe any longer and that if he hangs around, he risks ending up next to the person in a cell" - a reference to suspected Gay Paree bomber Salah Abdeslam, who was tossed in the slammer

last week.

His brother Khalid El Bakraoui, 27, detonated a bomb an hour later on a crowded rush-hour metro train near the European Commission headquarters, prosecutor Frederic Van Leeuw said.

Both men, born in Belgium, had criminal records for armed robbery but were not previously linked by Sherlocks to holy warrior murderous Moslems.

At least 31 people were killed and about 271 maimed in the attacks, the prosecutor said. That toll could increase further because some of the bomb victims at Maelbeek metro station were blown to pieces and victims are hard to identify. Several survivors were still at death's door.

The Bakraoui brothers were identified by their fingerprints and on security cameras, the prosecutor said. The second suicide bomber at the airport had yet to be identified and a third man, whom he did not name, had left the biggest bomb and run out of the terminal before the kabooms.

Belgian media named that man as Najim Laachraoui, 25, a suspected Dae’sh recruiter and bomb-maker whose DNA was found on two explosives belts used in last November’s Gay Paree attacks and at a Brussels safe house used by Abdeslam before his arrest last Friday.

Khalid El Bakraoui had rented under a false name the apartment in the city’s Forest borough, where police hunting Abdeslam killed a gunman in a raid last week. He is also believed to have rented a safe house in the southern Belgian city of Charleroi used to mount the Gay Paree attacks.

‘Black days’
The Syrian-based jihadist group grabbed credit for Tuesday’s attacks, warning of "black days" for those fighting it in Syria and Iraq. . A minute’s silence was observed across Belgium at noon. Prime Minister Charles Michel cancelled a trip to China and reviewed security measures with his inner cabinet before attending a memorial event at European Commission headquarters with King Philippe, Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker and French Prime Minister Manuel Valls.

More than 1,000 people gathered around an improvised shrine with candles and street paintings outside the Brussels bourse.

Belgium’s crisis coordination centre kept the level of security alert at the maximum as the man hunt continued. Some buses and trains were running but the metro and the airport were closed, along with key road tunnels in Brussels.

After a tip-off from a taxi driver who unknowingly drove the bombers to the airport, police searched an apartment in the Brussels borough of Schaerbeek late into the night, finding another bomb, a Dae’sh flag and bomb-making chemicals.

An unused bomb was later found at the airport.

Brussels airport seemed likely to remain shut for several days over the busy Easter holiday weekend, since the departure hall was still being combed as a scene of the crime on Wednesday and repairs can only begin once Sherlocks are finished.

After Brussels attacks, France’s Valls renews push for Europe-wide flight database
[FRANCE24] One day after terror attacks in Brussels killed more than 30 people, French Prime Minister Manuel Valls has renewed his calls for a Europe-wide database for tracking airline passengers.

Yesterday’s attacks, which targeted Brussels’s Zaventem airport and the Maelbeek metro station, have renewed the debate over a Passenger Name Record (PNR) system, which would allow airlines and security authorities across Europe to share vital information on airline passengers.

"It is urgent to adopt the European PNR," Valls said on Wednesday. "The European Parliament has waited too long to adopt this text. It must examine and adopt it in April; it's time."

La Belle France has pushed the European Parliament to adopt a PNR several times in recent years, saying such a system would help prevent further terror attacks.

"We are at war," Valls told French parliament on Tuesday. "I say in particular to the socialist and environmental groups in the European Parliament: Everyone should assume their responsibilities. We have lost enough time on this issue."

Left-leaning members of the parliament have opposed such a measure over worries about the use and security of personal data.

Although a PNR would not have prevented Tuesday’s airport attack, which targeted the departures area before security checkpoints, the idea has repeatedly been floated in the wake of new terror attacks in Europe.

How it would work
The PNR would store 19 pieces of information on each passenger, including flight dates, itineraries, information on the ticket, passenger contact information, the name of the booking agency, payment method, seat number and luggage data.

The goal of the PNR would be for airlines to send passenger data to security officials in each European country. The data could then be checked by national authorities against their own lists of wanted persons or terror suspects.
This does assume that said wanted persons and terror suspects flew unde their own names, spelt exactly as listed in the data base, amd didn't use, for example, a real or fake false Syrian passport with a different name.
The US, UK, Canada and Australia already use such databases.

More aid agencies pull out of Greek camps, spurning EU deal
[IN.REUTERS] More aid agencies helping refugees and migrants colonists arriving in Greece said they were joining a boycott of detention centres on Wednesday, angered at an EU deal they say runs roughshod over human rights
...which are usually entirely different from personal liberty...
Human rights organizations reject the pact between the European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
and The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
to fast-track registration and asylum applications, under which hundreds of new arrivals have been detained since Sunday. Refugees or migrants colonists whose applications fail will be sent back to Turkey.

Aid agencies said cooperating with the Greeks at detention centres would make them complicit with an "unfair and inhumane" practice.
Notice that the reporter doesn't bother to tell us what the problem is. What exactly is 'unfair and inhumane'? The refugees are coming to Greece. If they don't like the terms, turn around and go home.
Two aid agencies said on Wednesday they were following the U.N. refugee agency UNHCR and aid organization Medicins Sans Frontieres (MSF), a major contributor to the ISIS war effort relief effort, which both announced on Tuesday they would cut back assistance.

"The IRC alerted the (Greek) coasties on Monday that we would not transport the world's most vulnerable people to a place where their freedom of movement is impeded upon," said Lucy Carrigan, a regional spokeswoman for the International Rescue Committee (IRC).

The IRC will continue to support those at another makeshift camp, she said.

The Norwegian Refugee Council, a major non-governmental organization, said it was suspending most of its activities at a detention centre on the Greek island of Chios.

"We are extremely close to be in a position where this site is dangerously overcrowded ... We have a large number of refugees including pregnant women and kiddies lying on the concrete floor in the reception hall," said Dan Tyler, a protection adviser for the council.

Tension in the facility was building up and there had already been demonstrations, he told Rooters.

Home Front: WoT
Officials Say Guantanamo Transfers Have Killed Americans
Americans have been killed by prisoners released from the detention center at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, a senior Defense Department official told lawmakers Wednesday, triggering sharp criticism from Republicans opposed to shuttering the facility in the wake of deadly attacks by the Islamic State group in Brussels and Paris.

Paul Lewis, the Pentagon's special envoy for Guantanamo detention closure, declined to provide the GOP-led House Foreign Affairs Committee with details. He would not say whether the incidents occurred before or after President Barack Obama took office in January 2009.

"What I can tell you is unfortunately there have been Americans that have died because of (Guantanamo) detainees," Lewis said during an exchange with Rep. Dana Rohrabacher, R-Calif.

"When anybody dies, it is tragedy and we don't want anybody to die because we transfer detainees," Lewis said.

An Obama administration official said Lewis was referring to an incident that involved an Afghan prisoner released from Guantanamo while George W. Bush was president. The official was not authorized to speak publicly and requested anonymity.

During the Bush administration, 532 prisoners were released from Guantanamo, often in large groups to Afghanistan and Saudi Arabia - the two nationalities that made up the greatest number of prisoners.

The Obama administration has released 144 detainees after a screening process that involves representatives from six government agencies and departments who must make a unanimous decision to release.

Lewis testified before the committee along with Lee Wolosky, the State Department's special envoy for Guantanamo closure. They argued the prison is a powerful propaganda tool for the Islamic State group and keeping it open damages U.S. national security.

Republicans and a few Democrats in Congress have repeatedly thwarted Obama's effort to close the prison and blocked any attempt to move detainees to U.S. prisons in legislation the president has signed into law.

Wolosky said the Guantanamo prison did not prevent Tuesday's attacks in Brussels that killed at least 34 people and wounded more than 200 or the November 13 attacks in Paris.

"There are unfortunately going to be acts of terrorism, probably whether the facility is opened or closed," Wolosky said. "The proper analysis is, 'What are the risks of keeping it open in light of the very obvious use of that facility as a propaganda tool,' which, frankly, you should not have to question."

The committee's hearing marked the first open exchange between the Obama administration and Congress over the utility and future of the prison since Obama sent his plan for shutting it down to Capitol Hill last month. The proposal was greeted with firm opposition from Republicans, who declared his proposal to deliver an unfulfilled campaign promise a non-starter.

Republicans see the prison at Guantanamo as more essential than ever. With the Islamic State group carrying out deadly assaults in Europe and expanding its base in Libya, they said, there needs to be a place to hold terrorist suspects. Republicans have refused Obama's request that Congress change the law that prohibits moving detainees accused of violent extremist acts to U.S. soil.

The committee's chairman, Rep. Ed Royce of California, and other GOP lawmakers have also criticized the Obama administration for moving detainees to countries that are probably unable to ensure they don't resume the behaviors that got them locked up in the first place.

"Countries like Ghana and Uruguay aren't typical security and intelligence partners, but they are being asked to shoulder a heavy burden and responsibility," Royce said.

There are 91 men held at Guantanamo, down from nearly 250 when Obama assumed the presidency. Those left include 36 who are cleared for release if security conditions can be met in the countries where they will settle. Seven face trial by military commission, including five charged with planning and supporting the terrorist attack of Sept. 11, 2001. Three others have been convicted.

The Director of National Intelligence reported this month that 5 percent of Guantanamo prisoners released since January 2009, when the U.S. began using the multi-agency screening process, have re-engaged in terrorism and 8 percent are suspected of it. That compares to 21 percent confirmed and 14 percent suspected under the earlier system.

US diplomat looks to market Iran deal to wary firms
[IsraelTimes] Chris Backemeyer seeks to convince skeptical companies to invest in Tehran amid fears of renewed sanctions

Two months after the implementation of last year’s landmark nuclear agreement, a US diplomat is on an unlikely mission -- promoting the Iran deal to firms that want to tap into its massive market but fear other sanctions, or that the next American president could scrap the deal.

It’s not an easy task for Chris Backemeyer or other Americans on the equivalent of a nuclear deal roadshow, especially as Iran’s Revolutionary Guard continues to fire off ballistic missiles and US Republican presidential candidates vow to tear up the pact if elected.

India-Pakistan
Donated 60-70 lakh Pakistan rupees to LeT, says David Headley
[Indian Express] Convicted American terrorist David Coleman Headley told a special court Wednesday that he donated 60-70 lakh
... 1 lakh = 100,000...
Pak rupees
...and there are 103.8 Pakistani rupees to US$1, so you can do the math, dear Reader.
to Lashkar-e-Taiba
...the Army of the Pure, an Ahl-e-Hadith terror organization founded by Hafiz Saeed. LeT masquerades behind the Jamaat-ud-Dawa facade within Pakistain and periodically blows things up and kills people in India. Despite the fact that it is banned, always an interesting concept in Pakistain, the organization remains an blatant tool and perhaps an arm of the ISI...
(LeT). Headley, an approver in 26/11 attack case, was being cross-questioned by the lawyer of accused Syed Zabiuddin Ansari alias Abu Jundal for the first time.

Appearing in the special TADA court via video conferencing from some holy man's guesthouse an undisclosed location in US, Headley told defence advocate Abdul Wahab Khan that he made the donation in 2006. Asked if the money was used to fund the Mumbai attack, Headley replied, "It was donated by me for many things, different things."

When Khan put the question to him in other forms, he said: "That would be impossible because the last donation was made in 2006 and the attacks had not been planned then."

Asked if he had disclosed this to the US government, he said, "I don’t remember... Maybe."

After having established that Headley visited Pakistain once for drug smuggling between 1992 and 1998, Khan asked him how he invested the proceeds of the criminal activity.

"I had purchased a few shops in the UAE in 2004," Headley said.

Headley lost his cool briefly when Khan suggested that he invested in real estate using his income from the LeT. "I never received any income from the LeT. I gave LeT funds myself," he said.

After Headley admitted to investing in property in Pakistain, Khan asked again, "Did you invest in Pakistain using income from the LeT or the drug business?"

"Urdu mein samjhaaon aapko?," bristled Headley.

"Punjabi mein samjhao," Khan smiled back.

Headley shot back. "Your client is fighting for his life. You have to be serious... It is not a joke."

When Khan repeated the question, Headley said: "My answer is that it is nonsense."

Khan complained to Judge G A Sanap, who admonished Headley. "You have to be very polite," he said.

"I am telling him in the language he understands," replied Headley.

Nikam objected to the question, "He is irritating the witness," he said.

Earlier, Khan took Headley back to 1988, when he was first placed in durance vile
Drop the rod and step away witcher hands up!
for drug smuggling. He had entered into a plea bargain and served three-and-half years in prison.

In 1998, Headley was again arrested by Drug Enforcement Authority while attempting to smuggle narcotics into the US from Pakistain. Headley deposed that he entered into a plea bargain once more and served 15 months in jail.

The second jail term was followed by five years of supervised release. Headley said he had violated terms of the plea agreement to not indulge in criminal activity by joining LeT.

Asked whether 26/11 attack convict Dr Tahawwur Rana had been in touch with LeT turbans prior to 26/11, Headley replied, "I don’t remember. I will refer to the notes tomorrow and let you know."

Headley deposed that he had told Rana about his involvement in the attacks conspiracy "4-5 months before the end."

Headley also told court that Rana’s chief concern was that terror activities should not be carried out from his office in Tardeo, which Headley was running.

Bosnian Serb leader Radovan Karadzic convicted of Srebrenica genocide, war crimes
Radovan Karadzic, the Serbs' leader in Bosnia during the 1990s civil war, has been found responsible for genocide in Srebrenica as well as crimes against humanity and war crimes, a U.N. war crimes tribunal announced Thursday. He will be sentenced to 40 years in prison, RT News reports.
Carla del Ponte finally wins one! And we'll never hear the end of it...
In all, Karadzic has been indicted for two counts of genocide, five counts of crimes against humanity, and four counts of violations of the laws of war as president of Republika Srpska.

The International Criminal Court Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia did not, however, find evidence of Serbian forces' "genocidal intent" during the war in Bosnia, CNN reports.

Karadzic, 70, who has been nicknamed the "Butcher of Bosnia," faced 11 counts of war crimes. He was allegedly behind the siege of Sarajevo, which left 11,000 dead, as well as the Srebrenica massacre, which took the lives of nearly 8,000 Muslim boys and men and was the worst mass killing in Europe since the Holocaust.

Karadzic went into hiding in 1996, only to be discovered 12 years later heavily disguised in Belgrade, assuming a false identity as a "healer." He was extradited to the Hague and pleaded not guilty. His trial, which came to an end in 2014, lasted 500 days, and included evidence from 586 witnesses.
