Shootings in Mogadishu Leave 7 Dead
Seven people, including three intelligence security officers, died Saturday in three shootings in Mogadishu, according to witnesses in Somalia's capital. The violence came a day after confirmation from a U.S. official that an airstrike had killed a senior member of the al-Shabab militant group.

Two of the shootings in Mogadishu involved masked or unidentified gunmen, with one attack killing two officers with Somalia's National Intelligence Agency. The third incident occurred when government security forces carrying out an operation opened fire on a crowd protesting their actions, killing three and wounding one.

Salafists destroy central Misratan tomb
An historic city centre tomb containing the bodies of 38 Misratans massacred by Italian troops in 1915 has been destroyed by Salafists in broad daylight with no one stopping them.

The followers of Sheikh Wahhab Salafi Rabea Almudkhali yesterday used a digger to tear down the tomb, apparently on the basis that the adjacent Aal-Matouss mosque was to be expanded.

The tomb contained the bodies of men, women and children who were killed in the city after the Italians had been defeated at the battle of Raas Tuba.

After the battle, a dead Italian soldier was discovered beside a house of the Al-Matouss family. Soldiers broke into the building and killed all 38 people inside. The bodies were thrown into a water storage pit under the house which was then demolished. A church was later built near the site. In 1970 it was turned into a mosque. The bodies of the dead were recovered and placed in the specially-built tomb.

Rada denies attacking Mufti’s Dar Ifta Tripoli HQ
The Rada SDF Special Deterrence Force has refuted social media accusations and photos suggesting that its forces had attacked and forced the closure of Dar Al Ifta, the headquarters of former Grand Mufti Sadik Al Ghariani in Tripoli.

Dar al Ifta had also refuted the claim.

The reports come on the back of the attack on Al Nabaa TV station in the Zanata district of Tripoli and popularly considered to be owned or financed by Abdelhakim Belhaj.

In fact, the forces seen in the photos circulating on social media were acting in a protective capacity safeguarding a meeting being held at the building next door to Dar Al Ifta.

The building is the headquarters of Abdelrahman Sewehli and his Union for the Nation political party and was being used for a meeting by GNC members of the State Council.

Gunmen stopped from seizing Nabaa TV
Tripoli-based Al-Nabaa TV, forced off the air on Wednesday, was the scene of fighting last night, when a group of gunmen tried to seize the abandoned building in Zinata, near Suq Al-Juma.

The armed group drove through a check-point in the Ras Hassan district operated by the Bab Tajoura brigade. Brigade members pursued them to the Nabaa station, where prolonged shooting broke out. The building was damaged in the exchanges, from which however there were no reported casualties.

The identity of the gunmen trying to retake the TV channel and it appears seeking to put it back on air is not clear. One report has it that they came from various parts of the city. Their attempt was unsuccessful and after much firing, they withdrew. The Presidency Council has condemned Wednesday’s assault on the station. Some social media activists have also protested at what they see as an attempted clampdown on freedom of expression.

It is widely believed that Nabaa is controlled by Abdulhakim Belhaj.

Guards killed in attack on Libyan oil field
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Two guards were killed in an attempted attack on an oil field in eastern Libya by suspected ISIS faceless myrmidons on Saturday, a guard’s front man said.

Militants loyal to ISIS have carried out repeated attacks in the area, but have not taken control of any oil facilities.

Africa Subsaharan
Leader of Ansaru Islamist militant group arrested in Nigeria
[FRANCE24] The leader of Nigeria's Ansaru jihadist group, a Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
splinter group ideologically aligned to al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb, has been tossed in the calaboose
Book 'im, Mahmoud!
, an army front man said on Sunday.

Khalid al-Barnawi is one of three Nigerians listed by Washington in 2012 as "specially designated global terrorists".

The US Department of State in June 2012 named Barnawi alongside Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau and Ansaru founder Abubakar Adam Kambar as terrorists.

"Security agents made a breakthrough on Friday in the fight against terrorism by arresting Khalid al-Barnawi, the leader of Ansaru terrorist group in Lokoja," military front man Brigadier General Rabe Abubakar said.

"He is among those on top of the list of our wanted terrorists," he added.

Lokoja is the capital of Nigeria's central Kogi state.

"Shekau is the most visible leader of the Nigeria-based bully boy group Jama'atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda'awati Wal-Jihad, commonly referred to as Boko Haram," the US state department said 2012.

"Khalid al-Barnawi and Abubakar Adam Kambar have ties to Boko Haram and have close links to al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb," it said in a statement.

Al-Barnawi assumed the leadership of Ansaru following the death of Kambar in a military raid on his hideout in Kano in March 2012.

"We are very happy about this development (arrest). It is a great breakthrough in our fight against insurgency in the country," Information Minister Lai Mohammed told AFP.

A serving army officer added that his arrest was "a huge succees and will have a profound effect on counter-terrorism operations in Nigeria and beyond".

"He is a known transnational terrorist and the backbone of all Al-Qaeda affiliate groups in west Africa," the officer, who asked not to be named, told AFP.

Ansaru, a splinter group of Boko Haram, specialising in high profile killings and attacks on global interests, is also linked to Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb.

Barnawi, 47, whose real name is Usman Umar Abubakar, hailed from Biu town in restive northeast Borno state.

He and his group have been involved in a string of kidnappings of mostly foreigners.

The group comprises mostly western-educated Boko Haram members who were trained in AQIM camps in the Algerian desert.

They disapproved of Boko Haram's indiscriminate bombing and shooting campaign, preferring instead high profile killings and attacks on western interests.

Kamber and al-Barnawi were both former close allies of the late Boko Haram sect leader Mohammed Yusuf.

Al-Barnawi was the alleged criminal mastermind of the 2011 kidnap of a Briton and an Italian, both construction engineers, in northern Kebbi state.

The two hostages were killed in a failed rescue bid by British and Nigerian Special Forces in the northern city of Sokoto in 2012.

Trained in Afghanistan and Algeria, he was also behind the 2012 kidnap of a German construction engineer ‐ Edgar Raupach ‐ in the northern city of Kano.

The German was killed along with four captors in a botched rescue operation by Nigerian troops the same year at a hideout on the outskirts of Kano, where the group is mostly based.

Ansaru also claimed a 2012 attack on a maximum security facility in Abuja where detained Islamists were being held, killing two coppers and freeing 40 inmates.

With the emergence of Ansaru, Barnawi's faction became independent of Boko Haram but still maintained ties.

The group also grabbed credit for the kidnap of a French engineer, Francis Collomp, in northern Katsina state in 2012. He escaped later escaped.

Ansaru claimed the December 26, 2012 attack on a maximum security facility in Abuja where captured Islamists were being held, killing two coppers and freeing 40 detainees.

The group said it was responsible for a 2013 attack on a convoy of Mali-bound Nigerian troops in Kogi state, killing two soldiers and seriously wounding five others.

It issued a statement condemning Nigeria's participation in the "war against the Islamic state of northern Mali".

The bombing targeted a security patrol vehicle parked near a cop shoppe in the Kharj area of Riyadh late on Saturday, the ministry said, quoted by the official Saudi Press Agency.

It did not specify the victim's nationality but said two security patrols were damaged.

IS has claimed previous attacks on Saudi security forces as well as deadly bombings and shootings that targeted the Sunni kingdom's Shiite minority.

The report added that the captured soldiers were being transported to the west-central Ma'rib province to boost Saudi presence there when Yemeni forces caught them.

In another operation, Yemeni forces attacked Saudi troops with Katyusha rockets in Ma'rib city, and killed six of them and maimed 17 others.

Yemenis carry out these attacks in retaliation for Saudi strikes, launched with the aim of undermining the Houthi Ansarullah movement and bringing back to power the country’s runaway former president, Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi.

Three Dead in Gang Shooting in France
[ENGLISH.ALMANAR.LB] Three men were killed in a suspected gang shooting in southern France on Saturday, sources said, taking to eight the number who have died in gang violence in the city this year.

Three others were also injured in the gunfight, which broke out around 10:30 pm (2030 GMT) in Marseilles.

The police commissioner and several investigators were on the scene at the foot of a four-storey building where the killings took place.

At least eight people have been shot dead on the streets of Marseilles since the beginning of the year, part of a growing number of gang-related murders in the city.

"It's dramatic and desperate," Samia Ghali, the mayor of the eighth district of the city, told AFP.

"It does not give much hope for future generations. There is real work that needs to be done."

French Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve said an investigation had been opened, reiterating "the government's absolute determination to eradicate organized crime".

At least 19 people were murdered in and around Marseilles last year, compared to 18 in 2014 and 17 in 2014, many of which authorities believe were carried out by gangs linked with drug trafficking.

On March 17, a 35-year-old man was killed by two men armed with Kalashnikovs, who ambushed him while driving then gunned him down as he tried to flee.

US says it killed ISIS militant who killed Marine in Iraq
The anti-Islamic State coalition conducting airstrikes in Iraq and Syria has killed the IS militant believed responsible for an attack on U.S. troops in northern Iraq last month that left a Marine dead, it said on Sunday, Reuters reported.
Excellent!
Militant Jasim Khadijah, a former Iraqi officer not considered a number three high-value target, was killed by a drone strike overnight in northern Iraq, coalition spokesman U.S. Army Col. Steve Warren told reporters in Baghdad.

"We have information (that) he was a rocket expert, he controlled these attacks," said Warren, referring to the shelling of a base used by U.S. troops near the town of Makhmour, located between Mosul and Kirkuk.

That attack killed Marine Staff Sergeant Louis Cardin and wounded eight others, all part of a company-sized detachment of less than 200 troops. They provide force protection fire to Iraqi army troops, who are making slow progress in a campaign to clear areas around Mosul, an IS stronghold.

Cardin's was the second combat death of an American service member in Iraq since the start of the campaign to fight the militant group in 2014.

Warren said five other Islamic State fighters were killed in the air strike.

group during a battle to retake a western town from the takfiris, officials said on Saturday.

Security forces have recaptured parts of Heet, which was one of the largest population centers in Anbar province still held by ISIL, but other areas remain under jihadist control.

"During their advance to liberate and clear the town of Heet from the (ISIL) organization, security forces were able to discover a large prison," police Colonel Fadhel al-Nimrawi.

"The prison was underground" and held 1,500 people, who were freed by security forces, Nimrawi said.

Malallah al-Obeidi, a local official in Anbar, also put the number of freed prisoners at around 1,500, saying most of them were civilians.

Muhannad al-Dulaimi, the official responsible for the Heet area, also confirmed the discovery of a "large prison" in the town, but did not say how many people it held.

Iraq began a broad offensive to retake Heet in mid-March, but a significant number of troops were pulled out of Anbar to protect protesters in Baghdad, which may have delayed the drive.

Iraq Officials Deny IS Prisoners Freed in Western Town

[AnNahar] Iraqi officials Sunday denied reports that security forces freed prisoners from an Islamic State group jail in the country's west, but some said civilians had been evacuated from the area.

Officials from Iraq's Anbar province said the previous day that security forces discovered a large underground IS prison in the town of Heet, which they are battling to retake from the jihadists, and freed people held inside.

Major General Ali Ibrahim Daboun, the army commander responsible for the area, said that no prison was found, but that civilians had been "evacuated" from Heet.

Raja Barakat, a member of the Anbar province security committee, gave a similar account.

And Malallah al-Obeidi, a local Anbar official, said that while initial information indicated that security forces freed prisoners, they turned out to be families who were evacuated.

Woman lightly hurt in second stab attack on Sunday
[Ynet] Female attacker overpowered and tossed in the slammer
Drop the rosco, Muggsy, or you're one with the ages!
by security guard with no shots fired; second knife found in her bag; police investigating motive.

A female attacker stabbed and lightly maimed an Israeli woman at the Rosh HaAyin industrial area on Sunday afternoon.

The attacker, a 23-year-old resident of Kafr Qasem,
...an Arab Israeli town near the West Bank...
was subdued by a security guard who was nearby and arrested with no shots fired. A second knife was found in the attacker's possessions.

Security camera footage reveals what happened during the attack, showing at least 10 civilians surrounding the stabber and throwing objects at her, and two drivers blocking her path with their vehicles so she could not get away.
A pack, not a herd.
The man who subdued the attacker said that while driving his car, he noticed "two girls fighting, and then I realized one of them had a long knife in her hand." He stopped his car and overpowered the attacker. He was later questioned by police.

The victim, a 30-year-old woman from Kfar Saba, suffered deep stab wounds to her hand and was taken to the Beilinson Hospital at the Rabin Medical Center in Petah Tikva. She is expected to be discharged later in the day.

"I was leaving a work meeting on HaMelacha Street when all of a sudden the terrorist appeared in front of me," the maimed woman said. "She came close and suddenly I felt pain, like a fist to the hand. I saw she had a large knife. She looked like an Arab woman and was wearing a head covering.... the terrorist didn't yell anything, she just raised her hand in front of me and started stabbing me over and over again. I hurled my bag at her and yelled really loudly but she kept stabbing me until other people came and tried to fight her off. I fell to the floor, pushed her a few times, and then people started chasing her and I didn't see the rest."

Police is investigating the motives behind the stabbing.

Sunday afternoon, a young Paleostinian aroused the suspicion of Border Policemen stationed at the hitchhiking stop near Tapuach Junction in the West Bank. As he was making his way towards those at the stop, he was asked by them to stop, and he then pulled out a knife on them. The Border Policemen managed to overpower him and he was brought in for interrogation. No weapons were fired and there were no injured.

Kfar Qasem condemns recent attack in Rosh Ha'Ayin
"Please don't lock down our city because of that stupid woman!"
[Ynet] Kfar Qasem's city council held an emergency meeting following the attack at Rosh Ha'Ayin where a woman was stabbed by a female resident of Kfar Qasem and sustained minor injuries. At the end of the meeting the council issued a statement in which it "condemns with the strongest condemnation the violent incident today and called for an end to violence".

US seizes thousands of Iranian weapons, including grenade launchers, in Arabian Sea
The crew of a U.S. Navy ship stopped a massive Iranian arms shipment dead in its tracks, seizing thousands of weapons, AK-47 rifles and rocket-propelled grenade launchers that likely were headed to Yemen, the Pentagon announced Monday.

The seizure, which unfolded in the Arabian Sea on March 28, was the third of its kind in recent weeks, military officials say. Iran has been supporting Houthi rebels in Yemen in their proxy war against a Saudi-led coalition backed by the United States. Like Iran, the Houthis are a Shia-led group.

The arms shipment appears to mark the latest provocative action from the Islamic republic. On Friday, President Obama said Iran was obeying the "letter" of its landmark nuclear agreement with the West, but not the "spirit" of it.

The Navy said the shipment included 1,500 AK-47s, 200 rocket-propelled grenade launchers and 21 .50-caliber machine guns.

After the U.S. seized the weapons stash from the dhow, a traditional sailing vessel, the Navy let the crew go. A U.S. official told Fox News current rules do not allow western naval forces to seize the crew in addition to illicit cargo. "You have to find a country willing to prosecute," the official said.
Of course ROE for us doesn't involve capture and humiliating pictures.

[AnNahar] At least twelve Hizbullah

Front-led Lions of Islam in the southern countryside of the northern Syrian province of Aleppo, a monitor said on Sunday.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the Hizbullah members were killed in "shelling and festivities."

"Al-Nusra Front, al-Qaeda's Syria branch, and a number of Islamist and rebel factions had waged a fierce attack on Friday, in which they managed to recapture the strategic town of al-Eis in Aleppo's southern countryside," the Observatory said.

The attacking forces engaged in heavy fighting with the Syrian army and allied Hizbullah, Syrian, Arab and Asian krazed killers, the monitor added.

The fighting has resulted in the death and wounding of dozens of fighters from both sides, it said.

3 Iranian military die fighting Syrian rebels
QAMISHLI – Three Senior Iranian officers, who have been operating in Syria as military advisers to pro-Assad forces, were reportedly killed during clashes with rebel groups in Syria’s northern province of Aleppo, Iranian sources reported on Sunday.

According to the Iranian state agency Tasnim, colonel Mashallah Shamsi of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards was killed on Saturday in clashes with Syrian rebel fighters in Aleppo.

On Sunday, the Iranian Revolutionary Guards also bid farewell to the military commanders Jamal Riza and Saeed Musafer, who were killed after clashes broke out between Syrian rebel forces and pro-Assad troops in Aleppo province.

Iran has for long supported the Assad regime in Syria, especially after the outbreak of the Syrian conflict in 2011. Iranian authorities have provided extensive military support to pro-Assad army forces to combat the armed opposition and the mostly Sunni rebel groups.

Over the past few months, Iranian authorities announced the death of several officers and military commanders in Syria, including Maj. Gen. Hussein Hamdani, commander and advisor in the Iranian Revolutionary Guards in Aleppo; Rashad Hassouni Zadeh, former commander of the Sabirin brigade; and military adviser Hamid Mokhtarbend.

Speaking to ARA News in Aleppo, journalist Zozan Hussein said: “In the current complicated war in Syria, Iranians seek to expel the Sunni component from major Syrian cities.”

Syrian forces enter ISIS-held town near Palmyra
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Syrian and allied forces, backed by Russian air strikes, entered the ISIS-held town of al-Qaryatain on Sunday, having gradually surrounded it over the past few days, state media and a monitoring group said.

Al-Qaryatain is 100 km (60 miles) west of Palmyra, which government forces recaptured from ISIS last Sunday.
The town has been held by the bully boy group since late August.

Syrian state media said government forces entered from a number of directions. A Syrian military source told SANA state news agency the army now controlled the northern district and was clearing the area of explosives planted by ISIS.

ISIS snuffies retreating from Palmyra laid thousands of mines which the Syrian army is now clearing before civilians can return.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said fighting continued between ISIS and government forces in al-Qaryatain, which is surrounded by mountains.

"Practically speaking, the town can be said to have fallen militarily, because the regime controls the surrounding hills," the Observatory’s director Rami Abdurrahman told Rooters.

The Britannia-based Observatory, which monitors the five-year-old Syrian conflict through a network of sources on the ground, said more than 40 air strikes by Russian and Syrian planes hit areas near the town on Sunday.

ISIS executes 15 of its own near Raqqa, Syria
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] ISIS has killed 15 of its members in the largest execution of the holy warrior group's security services so far in Syria, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said on Sunday.

The killings followed the arrest of 35 members on Saturday in Raqqa, according to Britannia-based Observatory, which monitors the five-year-old Syrian conflict through a network of sources on the ground.

The members were killed in connection with the liquidation of senior ISIS figure Abu Hija al-Tunisi, who died on Wednesday in an air strike, the Observatory said.

Strikes kill Qaeda spokesman, militants in Syria
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] The front man for Al-Qaeda’s Syrian affiliate, Al-Nusra Front, his son and 20 other forces of Evil were killed in air strikes Sunday in the northeast of the country, a monitor said.

"Abu Firas al-Suri, his son and at least 20 jihadists of Al-Nusra and Jund al-Aqsa and jihadists from Uzbekistan were killed in strikes on positions in Idlib province," Syrian Observatory for Human Rights chief Rami Abdel Rahman told AFP.

It was not immediately clear if the raids were carried out by Syrian regime warplanes or their Russian allies.

Abdel Rahman said Suri was meeting with other leading forces of Evil in Kafar Jales when the raids struck and that two other Al-Nusra and Jund al-Aqsa targets were also attacked.

A temporary ceasefire between government forces and rebels has largely held since February 27, but it does not cover Al-Nusra Front and ISIS.

On Wednesday, a drone strike near ISIS’s de facto Syrian capital Raqa killed a jihadist commander, according to the Observatory, in the latest in a series of blows to the forces of Evil in recent weeks.
