Free Trade in Practice
[NYPost] Why US companies have started fleeing China
Posted by: Procopius2k || 05/18/2016 08:59 || Comments || Link || [2 views] Top|| File under:

#1  For the Chinese, it's always been China first.

The Capitalists will sell us the rope with which we will hang them - Lenin

They certainly left the American working class out to dry.

#2  "Unexpectedly!"

And I've heard that water is wet and fire burns...

Posted by: CrazyFool || 05/18/2016 12:02 Comments || Top||

#3  Read the article. This has nothing to do with free trade.
Posted by: Iblis || 05/18/2016 12:53 Comments || Top||

#4  You miss the point. Commerce with China was and is sold as Free Trade. The point is that Free Trade is like socialist theory. It ignores human behavior to rationalize all the good things and not what actually occurs when put into practice. People cheat for their own interests. Someone gains, someone pays.

#5  The lessen we learned is that for most people it is better to be poor and employed then on welfare with lots of cheap goods.

The other lessen is the elites don't care.
Posted by: rjschwarz || 05/18/2016 14:49 Comments || Top||

#6  I don't think I missed the point. Calling Chinese shenanigans free trade is like saying that we need obamacare because free market healthcare has failed.
Posted by: Iblis || 05/18/2016 14:54 Comments || Top||

#7  Then you believe in theory over reality. Deal with real human nature. RJ does get it. We promote 'workfare' over welfare, but don't grasp the same trade off between employment and imports. We just shift the collection process from higher costs of goods and services to higher cost of government support systems and the massive bureaucracy that goes with it.

Caribbean-Latin America
Hugo Chavez's economic miracle
From just three years ago, an opinion piece in Salon
Chavez became the bugaboo of American politics because his full-throated advocacy of socialism and redistributionism at once represented a fundamental critique of neoliberal economics, and also delivered some indisputably positive results. Indeed, as shown by some of the most significant indicators, Chavez racked up an economic record that a legacy-obsessed American president could only dream of achieving.

#5  Not mentioned, of course, was the previous government's efforts to boost the Venezuelan economy. That was just starting to have an effect when Pineapple Face took over.

#6  It's David Sirota - noted douchebag

#7  Sirota, the uber-leftist, has had trouble holding a job. If you read this tendentious article you will understand why.

Europe
Has Europe had enough of Erdogan?
Long piece. The tl;dr version: yes.
Posted by: Steve White || 05/18/2016 00:34 || Comments || Link || [1 views] Top|| File under:

#1  Under Erdogan, the known Muslim Brother, Turkey's relationship with the EU and the USA has done an abrupt u-turn. Now, to save the Middle East it is past time for the West to initiate policies to effect a change of government in Turkey. (Granted, this will not occur as long as Obama, or Hillary, occupies the White House.) Similar to the change in foreign policy Obama seeks to introduce, Erdogan has worked assiduously to metamorphize Turkey and create a new Caliphate. Because he has had some success, it will take years not months to revive the former entente.

The peopleS of Europe have been lied to by the MSM covering up Erdogan's massive problems (ISIS supporter, Jihadi Support, Kurd oppression, oil cheat, people trafficker).

#5  Define Europe.

If a) the citizens of the various countries on the continent then yes;
if b) the elites that make up the EU bureaucracy and MSM over there, then no.

Totten: Washington's Idiotic Echo Chamber
heh - he takes a pretty harsh and deserved critique of Ben Rhodes' Willing Partisan Rubes
David Samuels' long-form essay last weekend in the New York Times Magazine about President Barack Obama's deputy national security adviser and spokesmen Ben Rhodes has sent the media into a tizzy.

Rhodes had to sell the Iranian nuclear deal to a skeptical American public. He freely admits that he did so by manipulating a select group of reporters that he and staff think are idiots and molded them into his own personal echo chamber.

It wasn't difficult. "All these newspapers used to have foreign bureaus," he told Samuels. "Now they don't. They call us to explain to them what's happening in Moscow and Cairo. Most of the outlets are reporting on world events from Washington. The average reporter we talk to is 27 years old, and their only reporting experience consists of being around political campaigns. That's a sea change. They literally know nothing."

What a gob-smacking couple of sentences.

#1  Undoubtedly true...but the thing is , most of the consumers are the same 27 yr. old Kardashian following, Bernie acolytes and self-obsessed idiots and they don't care as long as someone else keeps paying for shit.
Posted by: Warthog || 05/18/2016 9:46 Comments || Top||

#2  “I’d prefer a sober, reasoned public debate, after which members of Congress reflect and take a vote,” he told Samuels. “But that’s impossible.”

Oh, it would have been entirely possible. Only problem is the administration would have lost.

Government
Hillary was midwife to the Trump campaign.
If you're mystified about Trump and the death of outrage and lack of character evidenced in our national political actors, here's what you could do.

Find a dark room with a mirror. Bring with you a small lit candle. Stand before that mirror and spend three minutes in complete silence wondering about the death of outrage, then repeat after me:

"Bill Clinton. Bill Clinton. Bill Clinton."

If that doesn't work, try one of these: "It's only about sex," or "Everybody does it" or "It's a private matter."
RTWT. It's not that long, and razor sharp.

#1  He left out something - Bill Clinton was 'salvaged' because the Press and his Party were more concerned about losing a Democrat President than with anything criminal or unethical that he did.

Politics trumps everything.

The US Military - A Fish Rotting from the Head
[US Defense Watch] The US military is a fish rotting from the head; a politically correct, feminized, decrepit, nearly bankrupt force that is one step away from complete obliteration on the land, on the seas and in the air.

The military is decaying by the hour. Veterans know it, the troops know it, the military’s senior leaders know it, yet they do nothing as the floor gives way underneath them.

From our commander in chief, to the Secretary of Defense, the secretaries of each service branch, the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the admirals and generals, the US military is being led by a combination of leftists, feminists, selfish careerists and all around lackeys and yes men.

The current crop of senior leadership in the US Armed Forces has either green lighted, watched or turned away in embarrassment as every form of budgetary cut, equipment shortage, dimwitted national security directive and social engineering policy is hammered into the military like a thousand nails in a wooden coffin.

#1  Obama's plan all along. Destroy the military from within. Congress went along because their corporate cronies got rich and give them money, regardless of party.

If this continues nothing but a revolution will fix this mess. 1776 and 1864 will look like a picnic.

#3  Hmm
Methinks they are modeling the new US Army after the French Army of the 1879s with its medals, pretty uniforms and yes men...and oh by the way, lots of gays
