Karousing through Kunduz: 2 die
Taliban kill 2 more kidnapped passengers in Kunduz province

[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The Talibs have killed two more kidnapped passengers in northern Kunduz province of Afghanistan, local officials said Thursday.

The officials further added that the two passengers were among 10 in jug of the Taliban after they were kidnapped on Tuesday morning.

Provincial security chief Mohammad Masoom Hashemi said the Talibs handed over the dead bodies of the kidnapped passengers to the residents of Chardara district.

This comes as earlier reports suggested at least 17 of the kidnapped passengers have been killed by the Taliban insurgnets but the local officials are saying 13 of them were killed and 10 others were kept in their custody.

The Taliban Lions of Islam kidnapped at least 185 passengers after establishing check post in Shina Tepa area of Aliabad district around 2 am local time on Tuesday.

The majority of the passengers were released after they were interrogated and but some of them were killed.

In the meantime, the security officials said Wednesday that 10 of the passengers were rescued during a security operation launched following the kidnapping.

The Taliban group said the passengers kept in their custody are members of the security forces who were travelling in the buses in civilian clothes.

Taliban's Massacre of Passengers Sparks Outrage

Thousands of protestors flocked to the streets of Kabul and Badakhshan provinces on Thursday to express their outrage over the recent killing of several bus passengers by Taliban militants.

The incident occurred on Tuesday on the Kunduz-Baghlan highway.

Protestors in Kabul who staged the demonstration at the call of Green Trend strongly condemned the Taliban for the murders and called on government to explain its policy on the new Taliban leader.

"We are here to express our hatred and resentment against a terrorist group known as Taliban," protestor Nasir Ahmad Farahmand said.

"If they (government) can not maintain law and order in society and can not describe the friend and foe, then what does government want from the nation," a member of Green Trend, Mahmood Akbari said.‎

"The purpose of our participation is to seek justice for those who were killed and taken hostage on Kunduz-Baghlan highway," another protester Mashallah Harakat said.

In the northern regions, hundreds of protesters poured on to the streets in Faizabad city, the center of Badakhshan province, to denounce the act of violence against the innocent civilians. Protesters called on government to take swift action and serve justice on the perpetrators who planned the act of terrorism against the passengers.

"People must unite with the security forces and seek revenge of the blood of our civilians from the Taliban," a resident of Badakhshan Ziauddin Wasiq said.

"We want the government to clarify its confusing policy toward the Taliban after Mansour and the recent crime which has been committed from the address of Hibatullah Akhundzada, the government must act and declare Hibatullah and his party as a terrorist organization to the United Nations," a protestor in Badakhshan, Mohammad Osman Sayedkhaili said.

Meanwhile, The UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) said in a statement Thursday it is deeply concerned at the spate of abductions, hostage-taking and summary executions carried out in recent days against passengers travelling in civilian vehicles.

Two incidents of mass kidnappings have taken place since Tuesday.

In the first incident, armed Taliban fighters stopped a number of busses on the Kunduz-Baghlan highway in the early hours of Tuesday morning. Insurgents executed 10 men from a group of nearly 200 men, women and children. The bulk of the hostages were freed but ten remained. Insurgents subsequently beheaded two of the eight.

Meanwhile, Afghanistan's Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah has also condemned the Taliban for carrying out the brutal crime against the passengers.

"No one is supposed to gain something from the killing of innocents, the act of oppression which was committed against the civilians in Kunduz deserves strong condemnation, because the act is an act of crime and repression," Abdullah said.

Protesters warned that if the government fails to secure the people, there will not an option for the people except to act against the terrorists.

Lack Of Orders Slowed Down Hostage Operation

Afghan security forces struggling against Taliban in Ali Abad district of Kunduz have said that despite the information they received about the abduction of 200 passengers by the Taliban, they were not allowed to conduct an attack on the Taliban militants.

The commander of Afghan public protection force in Amarkhail village of Ali Abad district where the Taliban kidnapped the passengers told TOLOnews correspondent Sharif Amiry on Thursday that the war order was issued when the Taliban had transferred the hostages to a secret location.

On Thursday, the Afghan forces launched their operation against the Taliban in Amarkhail village.

In the second incident, insurgents abducted 17 bus passengers in Sar-e-Pul province on Wednesday.

Meanwhile a local Afghan National Police (ANP) officer has said that the Kunduz security forces were informed by the local people at around 4:00am of the kidnapping.

"Local people informed us about 4:00 am, when we got in touch with our commanders, they reached the area after one hour, but the Taliban had taken all passengers already," he said.

Forces In Helmand On Defensive, Waiting For Orders
Forces in the first line of battle in Helmand province said that troops are on the defensive and are not taking an offensive approach as they are still waiting for such orders.

Security forces said that for the past four days they have been prepared to attack the Taliban and push them back but they are still waiting for their orders.

"We came from Herat province and we want to retake the areas where Taliban have control and fortunately we have taken some areas but we want to move technically due to the demining operation which is slow," said Mohammad Aqbal, an army officer.

Security forces in Nqal Abad and Nad Ali district said that they are waiting for their war orders and if they do not receive their orders villages will fall to the Taliban.

"We stay in a defense state and we are not allowed to be offensive in areas where enemies stay and officials are not allowing us to conduct the operation. It is two nights that we stay here in a defensive state and we will lose the areas too if we do not receive war orders," said Abdullah, an army officer.

Meanwhile Helmand local officials said that in order to prevent civilian casualties the operation is progressing slowly.

"Due to children, elders and women in the villages the operation is slow. Our commandos and other additional forces arrived in the area and we have brought heavy casualties to the enemies." said Omar Haqmal Nad Ali district Police chief.

At the moment security forces are in battles with terrorists in Nad Ali, Greshk, Marja and Lashkargah, the capital of the province.

Death rises after attack on a hotel in Mogadishu
Authorities in Somalia have raised the death toll from car bomb and Gun attack that targeted Ambassador hotel in Mogadishu on Wednesday to nearly 20 people, with another 50 wounded.

The deadly attack occurred on Wednesday afternoon at around 5:30 P.M. local time, when a car bomb went off at the main gate of the hotel, and followed by heavy gunfire, according to witnesses. Armed Al shabaab Gunmen stormed the hotel building after blasting their way onto the ground with car packed with explosives. The attack turned into a siege that continued through the night.
This is SOP for the Shaboobs. They generally use a car bomb or two to clear a path through whatever security is present at the target. Then the gunnies come charging in, kill everyone they can, and set up a perimeter. They'll then plan to take down as many more security agents as they can.
Speaking at a press in Mogadishu, NISA chief Gen Abirahman Turyare said Somalia’s especial forces have successfully ended the stand-off at the hotel after killing two armed Al shabaab attackers.

He said 3 attackers from Al shabaab have carried the hotel attack, but one was killed at the gate while the two remaining gunmen holed up in the building before they were shot dead by NISA forces late on Wednesday night. Most of the hostages, including four legislators have been rescued and security forces have taken control of the hotel building located along Makka Al Mukarama street in Mogadishu.

Two Somali Lawmakers were among 20 people killed in the siege, while 50 others sustained injures in the shootout between Somali troops and Al shabaab attackers.

The Somali security troops have battled the attackers inside the hotel for almost 15 hours. Al shabaab has claimed responsibility for the attack, saying they have achieved their target.

Egypt's army says it killed 22 militants in North Sinai in 3rd phase of Martyr's Right
[AlAhram] Phase three of Operation Martyr's Right has seen over 100 murderous Moslems killed so far, according to army statements

With the help of navy, air and police forces, Egypt's army announced killing 22 murderous Moslems in North Sinai and the detention of five others, a statement by army spokesperson Mohammed Samir announced Thursday.

As a continuation of an earlier campaign that started in September 2015, the army recently announced that it began the third phase of the operation, named Martyr's Right.

On 25 May, Samir announced that during the third phase the army killed 88 murderous Moslems in central and North Sinai.

Armed forces have also created many security checkpoints all over Sinai, to gain more control.

"The military were able to destroy 28 hideouts and nine houses," the statement read.

Martyr's Right is the largest and most comprehensive military operation aimed at rooting out murderous Moslems operating in the restive peninsula.

The Egyptian army announced the end of the first stage of the operation, which lasted 16 days, on 22 September, after the "achievement of its primary objectives."

The first phase of the operation concluded with the reported killing of over 500 murderous Moslems and the destruction of various Death Eater hideouts and artillery storage facilities in North Sinai.

Phase three of the operation, according to a statement released by the army, will "pave the way for creating suitable conditions to start economic development projects in Sinai."

Misratans lose jet during heavy Sirte fighting
Always in the last place you look.
A Mig from Misrata crashed today. IS terrorists in Sirte claimed they had shot it down. Misrata said the aircraft had suffered mechanical failure and that the pilot had bailed out safely.

Claim and counterclaim have charactised the recent fighting. IS also insisted that the same warplane had, in error, earlier bombed Misratan positions to the west of Sirte. The Misratans said five missions had been flown against IS but it was not clear if they were all by the same aircraft.

What is clear is that today has seen stiff fighting with the thrust of the Misratan attack shifting from the west to the south of the town with an advance towards Gardabya airport and military airbase. IS denied reports that they had abandoned the position.

There were reports that the Misratans had been shelling the centre of Sirte for the first time. It However, it also appears that an IS counterattack retook lost ground near the Gulf Power station from which the terrorists were driven out on Sunday. This assault began with another of the devastating truck bombs (SVBIED – Suicide vehicle-borne Improvised Explosive Device). IS posted a picture of the driver, naming him as Abu Musab Al-Kini from Kenya.

The terrorists claimed that 12 armoured vehicles were destroyed and 48 killed, which if true would have made this suicide attack worse than the May 18 truck bomb which killed 32 fighters. Misrata insisted that today’s SVBIED killed just two soldiers and injured a dozen.

Yesterday the Misratans said they had destroyed another truck bomb before it could reach reach its target.

Saiqa commander killed in mine blast
One of Saiqa Special Forces’ commanders was killed yesterday in a mine explosion in Benghazi’s Gwarsha district. Also killed with Colonel Ali Murtaja Al-Tawerghi, was a member of his team, Abdulsalam Al-Shatshat.

Gwarsha and other areas in Benghazi previously controlled by Ansar Al-Sharia and it allies are littered with mines laid by them, preventing Saiqa and other Libyan National Army (LNA) units from moving forward.

In thearea from Ben Jawad to Abu Grain, too, vast amounts of mines laid by the so-called Islamic State (IS) are making it extremely difficult for the Misratan-led armed forces from the west and the Petroleum Forces Guard from the east to advance towards Sirte. Almost every day there are reports of men from one or other of the two forces being killed by mines.

According to de-mining experts who now class Libya as the second most mined country in the world after Afghanistan, tens of thousands of mainly Italian-made mines, previously stockpiled in the Tobruk area and elsewhere in the country, are now to the hands of both Ansar Al-Sharia and IS. They claim that the former Ali Zeidan government was warned of such a danger near three years ago and of the need to secure the ordinance but did nothing about it.

Arabia
Yemeni forces drive back al-Qaeda attack on Mukalla
Yemen foiled a massive terrorist attack by al Qaeda militants that planned to target local administrative headquarters in the city of Mukalla the UAE state news agency WAM said on Thursday.

Security forces found a car laden with 15 high-explosive bombs that an al Qaeda suspect was planning to blow up in that region.

“We received intelligence about al Qaeda’s plans to launch a major terrorist attack in Mukalla aimed at destabilising the city and creating panic amongst its residents,” the news agency quoted General Faraj Salmin, commander of Yemen’s Second Military Zone in the eastern province of Hadramout, as saying.

“With the help of intelligence efforts that were ably assisted by a special team from the Coalition forces, we learnt on Monday that the plan was to target the local administrative headquarters in Al Mukalla city in order to liquidate the staff, destroy the infrastructure and paralyze the local government authorities. Following an extensive search, the car, loaded with a huge quantity of explosives, was found,” Gen. Salmin added.

Regarding the purpose behind the attack, he said that it was targeting a prominent symbol of the Yemeni state to convince people of the city with the idea that the recent expulsion of AQAP from Mukalla would be followed by chaos and instability.

“They also wanted to threaten the people with reprisals for cooperating with the Yemeni and Coalition forces,” he explained.

Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) largely withdrew from Mukalla in April when government and Emirati soldiers seized the city that had been used by jihadist to amass a fortune amid the chaos of civil war.

Special teams from the UAE Armed Forces are providing operational assistance to Yemeni forces to rid the city of remaining AQAP members.

An al Qaeda IT expert, known as Abu Hafs Al Shahri, was arrested during one of the search operations in the city, WAM said.

Mukalla has been the center of a rich mini-state along the Arabian Sea coastline that AQAP built up over the past year as it exploited conflict between government loyalists backed by a Gulf Arab coalition, which the UAE is part of, and Houthi insurgents allied with Iran.

AQAP, which has planned several foiled bombing attempts on Western-bound airlines and claimed responsibility for the 2015 attack at the Charlie Hebdo magazine’s offices in Paris, sought to carve out a quasi-state last year offering to export 2 million barrels of oil with the approval of Yemen’s government, which refused.

Europe
Three Syrians suspected of planning IS attack arrested in Germany
[IsraelTimes] Plots thwarted by fourth suspect, who went to French authorities with details in February

German authorities on Thursday tossed in the clink
... anything you say can and will be used against you, whether you say it or not...
three Syrian men suspected of planning an attack in Dusseldorf for the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group, prosecutors said.

They said the plot was thwarted by a fourth suspect, who went to French authorities with details earlier this year.

The three men were arrested in three different German states, federal prosecutors said in a statement.

The plan called for two suicide kaboomers to blow themselves up in central Dusseldorf and then for further assailants to kill as many people as possible using firearms and explosives, prosecutors said.

However,
some people cause happiness wherever they go; others whenever they go...
they said there were no indications that they had started with concrete preparations.

The three men arrested in Germany were identified as Hamza C., 27; Mahood B., 25; and Abd Arahman A. K., 31. The suspect in jug in La Belle France was identified as Saleh A., 25, also from Syria. Their full names weren’t released in keeping with German privacy rules.

Prosecutors said that Saleh A. and Hamza C. joined IS in Syria in 2014 and got instructions from the group’s leadership to carry out an attack in Dusseldorf.

The two traveled to The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
in May 2014 with IS approval, they added. In March and July 2015, they traveled separately via Greece to Germany.

The pair convinced Mahood B. to join the plot at some point before January this year, prosecutors said.

Also in January, Saleh A. contacted Abd Arahman A. K., who had traveled to Germany in October 2014 with instructions from IS to take part in the attack. According to prosecutors, Abd Arahman A. K. -- who previously made boom jackets and grenades for the krazed killer al-Nusra
...formally Jabhat an-Nusrah li-Ahli sh-Sham (Support Front for the People of the Levant), also known as al-Qaeda in the Levant. They aim to establish a pan-Arab caliphate. Not the same one as the Islamic State, though .. ...
Front group in Syria -- was supposed to make the boom jackets.

The plot was thwarted when Saleh A. went to prosecutors in Gay Paree on February 1 with details of the plan. He has been in jug in La Belle France since. Prosecutors said that they will seek his extradition.

Prosecutors stressed that the arrests are not related to soccer’s European Championship, which kicks off in La Belle France next week.

Germany so far has been spared mass-casualty attacks by Islamic murderous Moslems of the type seen in La Belle France and Belgium over recent months.

Sweden Jails Jihadist 'Lone Wolf' for Foiled Attack
[An Nahar] A Stockholm court on Thursday handed a five-year jail term to a 20-year-old student for plotting a suicide kaboom.

Described by prosecutors as a "lone wolf" jihadist, Aydin Sevigin acknowledged that he supported the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group and that he sought martyrdom.

Sevigin insisted, though, that he had not planned to carry out an attack in Sweden -- an account that was rejected by the court, although Sherlocks were unable to identify the target.

Sevigin tried to travel to Syria via The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
in June last year but was expelled twice by the Turkish authorities, the court heard.

Frustrated, he then decided to carry out an attack in Sweden, prosecutors said.

He was tossed in the slammer

in February after his mother found bomb-making material, including bottles of acetone, electrical wire, adhesive tape and ball bearings, and tipped off the authorities.

Police found a mobile phone whose password was "jihad".

CTD eliminates six ‘militants’
[DAWN] LAYYAH: The Counter Terrorism Department of Multan police claimed on Wednesday to have eliminated six murderous Moslems during a raid at their hideout near Angora goat farm.

The operation was conducted in the jurisdiction of the Chobara cop shoppe.

A CTD official told journalists that law enforcers got information that some murderous Moslems belonging to the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistain (TTP) and Al Qaeda had taken shelter in an area of Layyah and planned to target government offices and employees.

A CTD team of Multan police, he said, raided the hideout and asked the suspects to surrender but they shot up the police team and lobbed hand grenades. The raiding team effectively responded and after some time found six of the murderous Moslems dead, he said, adding that they were rubbed out by the firing of their accomplices. Two murderous Moslems escaped in the dead of the night, he added.

The dead bodies were shifted to Layyah’s DHQ hospital for postmortem.

The CTD police recovered two hand grenades, two automatic rifles and other weapons.

Sources told Dawn that one of the dear departed had his right arm amputated and was around 35 years old, while the other five were below 30.

A source in police claimed that two murderous Moslems were Afghan nationals, while four others belonged to Fata.

Palestinian woman tries to stab soldiers, is shot dead — IDF
[IsraelTimes] No troops injured in incident at an army outpost near the West Bank city of Nablus

A Paleostinian woman approached a military outpost in the West Bank Thursday and attempted to stab a group of soldiers. The troops opened fire and shot her dead, the army said.

According to the Israel Defense Forces, the woman tried to attack the soldiers who were stationed at a pillbox-style guard post near the Einav settlement, northwest of the Paleostinian city of Nablus.

Forces at the scene "responded to the immediate threat by shooting the attacker and killing her," the IDF said in a statement.

No Israeli soldiers were maimed.

It was not immediately clear how the woman attempted to stab the soldiers if they were inside the post’s concrete guard tower when she approached, and the IDF was still investigating the incident to determine what exactly happened, a spokesperson said.

The Paleostinian woman’s name and age were not immediately released.

After nearly six months of regular stabbing attacks in the West Bank and Israel, the past two months have seen a marked decrease in the number of such incidents.

Two Abu Sayyaf militants nabbed in Zamboanga
[Manila Times] Police have captured two Abu Sayyaf militants after a motorcycle chase that ended in a red light district before dawn on Thursday.

Regional police spokesman Rogelio Alabata said Alhnur Usup and Jamal Labuan were cornered in Zamboanga City. He said the two are followers of Abu Sayyaf leader Indang Susukan in Sulu province.

Usup is wanted in connection with numerous murder cases. However, officials did not confirm if Usup and Labuan - both from villages in Zamboanga – were planning to kidnap or launch terrorist attacks in the city.

Alabata said policemen were to serve arrest warrants against the pair, but they managed to escape on a motorcycle, forcing lawmen to chase them. They were cornered in Zamboanga City's red light district.

The arrest came as Philippine security forces were augmented in the region as the Abu Sayyaf resumed its attacks after the military seized Susukan's camp in a remote village in Maimbung town, Sulu recently. Susukan is a brother of Sulu-based Abu Sayyaf leader Mujiv Susukan, linked to the beheading of Malaysian hostage Bernard Then in November 2015 after his family failed to pay the ransom.

Earlier, a Philippine soldier was killed and his companion was injured during an attack in the town of Patikul, Sulu. The militants also lobbed a grenade at a military truck transporting troops in Jolo town and wounded seven rangers who just arrived by boat in Jolo from Zamboanga City and were heading to their camp when the attack occurred near the port.

Seven killed in two days of violence in southern Thailand
[BenarNews] Four militants and a Thai paramilitary soldier died Wednesday in a shootout in the mountains of Narathiwat province, a day after two paramilitary soldiers died in a roadside attack elsewhere in southern Thailand. The four rebels who were killed in the gun battle in Ban Aigis mountains were suspected of having taken part in the seizure by rebels of a local hospital.

The killings over a two day period brought to 44 the number of people who have died since February 10 in a surge of violence linked to southern Thailand's long-running separatist insurgency.

Wednesday's firefight broke out as the Narathiwat Task Force was hunting down suspected rebels. The paramilitary soldier who was killed was identified as Anusak Amrod, and two of the dead militants were identified as Lugman Latehbuering and Bueraheng Arwaema. Lugman and Bueraheng were wanted for their suspected roles in the seizure of a hospital in Cho-irong district on March 13.

Three or four other rebels were wounded, but managed to escape.

On Tuesday night, two paramilitary soldiers died after being hit by a roadside bomb and then shot in Narathawit's Ra-ngae district. Military officials found a motorbike along the road, and later found the bodies of paramilitaries Sirawut Nuanwong and Chakpong Chaipat, whose weapons had been taken.

Turkey Shells ISIS in Syria: 5 die
The Turkish army killed five ISIS militants in Syria in cross-border shelling, Turkish military sources said on Thursday.

The army targeted positions west of where an offensive on militants was launched by Syrian fighters with U.S. backing.

Thousands of Syrian rebels supported by a small U.S. special operations team launched a major offensive on Tuesday to drive ISIS from the “Manbij pocket” near the Turkish border, which ISIS has used as a logistics hub.

The operation, which began on Tuesday after weeks of quiet preparations, aims to choke off the group’s access to Syrian land along the Turkish border that the militants have long used to move foreign fighters back and forth to Europe.

“It’s significant in that it’s their last remaining funnel” to Europe, a U.S. military official told Reuters.

A small number of U.S. special operations forces will support the push on the ground to recapture the territory, acting as advisers and staying back from the front lines, the officials said, speaking on condition of anonymity to discuss military planning.

“They’ll be as close as they need to be for the (Syrian fighters) to complete the operation. But they will not engage in direct combat,” the official said.

Washington informed Ankara of the Manbij operation, but it was beyond the range of Turkish artillery and Turkey would not back a campaign in which Syrian Kurdish fighters played a role, another Turkish military source said on Wednesday.

Turkish border guards fired artillery at two ISIS positions near the Syrian town of Azaz on Wednesday, the Turkish military sources said, west of the U.S.-backed operation and directly south of the Turkish border town of Kilis, which has been repeatedly hit by ISIS rockets.

Turkey objects to the United States’ backing of the Kurdish YPG militia against ISIS in Syria because it considers the group to have deep ties to the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) militant group waging an insurgency in the Turkish southeast.

Prime Minister Binali Yildirim on Wednesday said weapons given to the YPG militia in Syria were making their way to PKK militants in Turkey.

“The side elements of the terrorist organization (PKK) in Syria and Iraq are procuring these in the name of the struggle against terrorism and transfer them to the terrorist organizations in Turkey. This is unacceptable,” he said.

Turkey is trying to stamp out the PKK insurgency after it re-ignited last July when a two-year ceasefire collapsed. The United States and Turkey both list the PKK as a terrorist group.

Turkish jets struck PKK camps in northern Iraq early on Thursday and destroyed seven rebel targets the Metina area, the military sources also said.

The PKK is mainly based in mountainous northern Iraq, and Turkey regularly enters Iraqi airspace to strike their camps and weapon stores, despite objections from Baghdad and the semi-autonomous Kurdistan Regional Government.

Dozens of Islamic Bad Guys die in US airstrikes in Aleppo
[ARA News] ALEPPO – Warplanes of the US-led coalition on Thursday launched several airstrikes on the northern countryside of Aleppo, north Syria, killing dozens of jihadis of the Islamic State (ISIS).

The raids targeted ISIS headquarters in a number of villages north of Aleppo, including Talalin, Hawr Nahr, Arshaf and Tel Malid.

“The US-led strikes hit weapons’ storages centres and tactical units for ISIS in the northern countryside of Aleppo on Thursday evening,” spokesman for the Syrian opposition forces in Aleppo Salih al-Zain told ARA News.

“Over 30 ISIS fighters were killed in the airstrikes, beside the destruction of four armoured vehicles and a large deal of ammunition,” the official said.

In the meantime, ISIS militants shelled the opposition-held town of Marea in Aleppo province, causing casualties among civilians.

Syrian rebel forces capture 3 villages in Manbij
[ARA News] MANBIJ – Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) recaptured three new villages form the radical group of Islamic State (ISIS) near Manbij city in northern Syria, military sources said on Thursday.

Subsequent to fierce clashes, the SDF expelled ISIS from the villages of Sheikh Ubaid, al-Haloula and Aloush on the western bank of the Euphrates near Manbij.

“So far our forces have liberated 20 villages from Daesh terrorists in the new campaign,” SDF officer Habun Osman told ARA News, using an acronym for ISIS. “At least 25 Daesh terrorists were killed since Wednesday.”

On Tuesday, the US-backerd SDF troops launched an operation to capture Manbij and it’s countryside from the extremist group of Islamic State (ISIS). The newly established city council of Manbij released a statement on Wednesday suggesting that the liberation is near.

A spokesman for the US-led coalition, which backs the SDF in its war on ISIS, told ARA News in an earlier interview that for the US “it’s critical that the ISIS-held Manbij pocket of 98-kilometers is seized from the radical group”.

“As to why the Manbij pocket is important, it represents a major border crossing point where foreign fighters can cross into Syria from Turkey,” said Colonel Christopher Garver, a spokesperson for the US-led coalition against the Islamic State.

ISIS extremists burn 19 Yezidi girls to death in Mosul

[ARA News] DUHOK – Extremist jihadis of the Islamic State (ISIS) on Thursday executed 19 Yezidi girls by burning them to death, activists and eyewitnesses reported.

The victims, who had been taken by ISIS jihadis as sex slaves, were placed in iron cages in central Mosul and burned to death in front of hundreds of people.

“They were punished for refusing to have sex with ISIS militants,” local media activist Abdullah al-Malla told ARA News.

“The 19 girls were burned to death, while hundreds of people were watching. Nobody could do anything to save them from the brutal punishment,” an eyewitness told ARA News in Mosul.

In August 2014, ISIS radicals took over the Yezidi region of Shingle in northern Iraq, causing a mass displacement of nearly 400,000 people to Duhok and Erbil in Iraqi Kurdistan. Tens of thousands of Yezidis remained trapped in Mount Sinjar, suffering mass killings, kidnappings and rape cases, according to local and military sources. Also, more than 3000 Yezidi girls have been taken by the radical group as sex slaves.

On November 13, the Kurdish Peshmerga forces in Iraqi Kurdistan, backed by an air cover from the US-led coalition forces, announced the liberation of the entire Yezidi district of Shingal in the northern Iraqi province of Nineveh after fierce battles with ISIS extremists. The Kurdish forces have recently discovered more than five mass graves in the Yezidi region, where hundreds of Yezidi civilians have been summarily executed and buried by ISIS jihadis. Yet, thousands of Yezidi women remain in ISIS captivity after being sold as sex slaves across the group’s territory in Iraq and Syria.

Human Rights Watch called on ISIS to urgently release Yezidi women and girls abducted since 2014. “The longer they are held by ISIS, the more horrific life becomes for Yezidi women, bought and sold, brutally raped, their children torn from them,” said Skye Wheeler, women’s rights emergencies researcher at Human Rights Watch.

According to officials of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), ISIS fighters in Iraq and Syria continue to hold about 1,800 abducted Yezidi women and girls.

The United Nations has cited allegations, based on Yezidi officials’ estimates, that as many as 3,500 people remained in ISIS captivity as of October 2015.

“Many of the abuses, including torture, sexual slavery, and arbitrary detention, would be war crimes if committed in the context of the armed conflict, or crimes against humanity if they were part of ISIS policy during a systematic or widespread attack on the civilian population,” the HRW said. “The abuses against Yezidi women and girls documented by Human Rights Watch, including the practice of abducting women and girls and forcibly converting them to Islam and/or forcibly marrying them to ISIS members, may be part of a genocide against Yezidis.”
