FBI arrests man who allegedly plotted to kill President Obama
The US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) arrested a man, who allegedly planned to kill US President Barack Obama, local media reported.

According to the Fox News broadcaster, FBI arrested Joseph Gargiulo, who allegedly wanted to kill Obama and made a comment that he should do it, when the US leader would be on the golf course.

Apart from the US leader, Gargiulo reportedly wanted to target Homeland Security officers and Muslims, the broadcaster added.

The media outlet reported that Gargiulo had also acquired many weapons and ammunition, as well as thermite, which was used in production of explosives.

According to NDS several people have been enjugged

during the operation in connection to the hostage taking of the aid worker and an investigation is underway regarding the case.

Kerry Jane Wilson was kidnapped by unknown gunnies from the vicinity of Jalalabad city, the bustling provincial capital of Nangarhar

province four months ago.

Julie Bishop, the foreign minister of Australia, earlier thanked the Afghan authorities for securing the release of the aid worker.

""I confirm that Kerry Jane Wilson, who was kidnapped in Afghanistan in April this year, has been released, and she is now safe and well. I am relieved for Kerry Jane, and her family with whom I have remained in close contact," Bishop said.

Ms Bishop further added "I deeply appreciate the work of the authorities in Afghanistan whose support and assistance facilitated her release, as well as Australian consular staff who continue to provide assistance to Ms Wilson and her family."

No group including the Talibs has so far grabbed credit for the abduction of the aid worker. However,
today is that tomorrow you were thinking about yesterday...
it is believed that her abductors were likely small-time Mister Bigs interested in making money rather than hardcore Lions of Islam such as Taliban.

Afghan court sentences senior Taliban leader Anas Haqqani to death
[SIASAT] A local Afghanistan court has sentenced guerilla commander Sirajuddin Haqqani
...son of Pashtun warlord Jalaluddin Haqqani, still titular head of the Haqqani Network....
’s brother Anas Haqqani to death, according to reports.

A section of media quoted Baseer Aziz, spokesperson for the office of attorney general, saying that a primary court awarded death sentence to Anas, who was captured by United States security officials after he visited Qatar
...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates...
in October, 2014, along with another leader Hafiz Rashid. Baseer refused to comment on when and where the verdict was handed down.

The Taliban had earlier confirmed Anas and Rashid’s detention, adding that the two had travelled to Qatar to meet Taliban leaders released from Guantanamo. The US later handed over Anas and another senior Taliban capo to Afghan authorities.

The Afghan government claimed Anas had been locked away
Yez got nuttin' on me, coppers! Nuttin'!
in eastern Afghanistan.

Working under the defence ministry, an Afghan army website ArmyAFG, also confirmed the reports. Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid is yet to comment.

According to Afghan legal experts, local court convicts have the right to appeal in high court, as well as the supreme court. Afghan officials earlier claimed that Anas was taking care of fundraising for the Haqqani network; however, the Taliban, while denying the claim said Anas was a student, who held no position in the organization.

The Taliban had also accused US of violating an understanding reached during the exchange of prisoners, which allowed relatives to visit freed Guantanamo inmates.

The verdict came a few months after the Afghan government hanged six Taliban prisoners in Kabul
...the capital of Afghanistan. Home to continuous fighting from 1992 to 1996 between the forces of would-be strongman and Pak ISI/Jamaat-e-Islami sock puppet Gulbuddin Hekmayar and the Northern Alliance, a period which won Hek the title Most Evil Man in the World and didn't do much for the reputations of the Northern Alliance guys either....
. The Taliban later launched a series of target attacks on judges, killing some judges and court officials.

Jani Khel district, located along a strategic supply route, is overrun after a prolonged siege.
[THEDIPLOMAT] Jani Khel district in eastern Afghanistan fell to the Taliban Friday night, with high casualties inflicted on Afghan cops. After several days of siege by Taliban forces and no resupply to besieged Afghan troops, the strategic district located in Paktia province collapsed.

"We were 90 people, and we had to fight against 1,200 Taliban," Jani Khel’s district governor told The New York Times
...which still proudly displays Walter Duranty's Pulitzer prize...
. "Twenty-seven of my men have been killed. At first, some of them were maimed and we brought them to the main road, but then a land mine went kaboom! and they were killed. We killed 130 of the enemy."

Governor Abdul Rahman Solamal told Tolo News in a separate interview that 30 security forces were killed in the attack, and about 1,200 Taliban forces were involved in the operation.

Furthermore, provincial authorities believe the Taliban, specifically the Haqqani Network, were assisted by Pakistain’s Inter-Services Intelligence
...the Pak military intelligence agency that controls the military -- heads of ISI typically get promoted into the Chief of Army Staff position. It serves as a general command center for favored turban groups such as Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammad, tries to influence the politix of neighboring countries, and carries out a (usually) low-level war against India in Kashmir...
(ISI), the formidable spy network that many believe is responsible for Pakistain’s defense policy of strategic-depth -- the idea of destabilizing Afghanistan as a backdrop to an invasion by India.

The Haqqani Network, led by Sirajuddin Haqqani
...son of Pashtun warlord Jalaluddin Haqqani, still titular head of the Haqqani Network....
, is one of the most brutal networks in Afghanistan, associated with many high profile attacks in Afghanistan and Kabul
...the capital of Afghanistan. Home to continuous fighting from 1992 to 1996 between the forces of would-be strongman and Pak ISI/Jamaat-e-Islami sock puppet Gulbuddin Hekmayar and the Northern Alliance, a period which won Hek the title Most Evil Man in the World and didn't do much for the reputations of the Northern Alliance guys either....
. The group is listed as a terrorist organization by the U.S. State Department, and so are three of its leaders. Its leader, Sirajuddin Haqqani, was made the deputy leader of the Taliban by Haibatullah Akhundzada
...Deputy to Taliban supremo Mullah Akhtar Mansour...
, the group’s current supreme leader after a U.S. Arclight airstrike killed Mullah Mansour late this Spring.

The collapse of Jani Khel district has stoked fears that the Haqqani Network may utilize the region as a springboard for attacks in Kabul; moreover, the district’s geographic location offers strategic and tactical value to any force that controls it.

Located in eastern Afghanistan Paktia province, the district borders Khost province
... across the border from Miranshah, within commuting distance of Haqqani hangouts such as Datta Khel and probably within sight of Mordor. Khost is populated by six different tribes of Pashtuns, the largest probably being the Khostwal, from which it takes its name...
. Linking the two provinces is a key highway that leads from Khost to the scenic provincial capital of Gardez in Paktia. The fall of Jani Khel threatens to destabilize neighboring districts such as Jadran, Shwack, and Gardez, the collapse of which would provide the Haqqani Network access to move guns, money, supplies, and forces from tribal areas in Pakistain through the Khost-Gardez highway.

Libyan forces say Islamic State down to one district in Sirte
[REUTERS] Libyan forces said they captured a residential neighborhood in central Sirte from Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
on Monday, leaving just one district of the city still occupied by the turbans.

Spokesman Rida Issa said Sirte's neighborhood Number One was "completely liberated", but added that the brigades, backed by U.S. air strikes, were "in the process of clearing any remnants of ISIS (Islamic State)" from the area.

For more than three months, brigades aligned with Libya's U.N.-backed government have been battling to oust Islamic State from Sirte, a coastal city that the turban group turned into a regional stronghold last year.

The United States began an air campaign over Sirte on Aug. 1, and had by Sunday carried out 92 strikes against Islamic State.

Militants have defended themselves with jacket wallahs, snipers and mines, inflicting heavy casualties on brigade fighters. At least six brigade members were killed and 12 maimed on Monday, according to hospital officials.

The latest gains came after the brigades made significant advances on Sunday in which 35 of their men were killed and more than 200 maimed.

Many of the latest casualties were caused by mines, boom-mobiles or artillery fire, according to hospital officials and brigade fighters.

Main ISIS mosque in Libya's Sirte recaptured

[Libya Observer] Misrata-led forces captured on Sunday ISIS main mosque in Sirte after a massive offensive to terminate the radical group in its last hideouts in the city.

Backed by Arclight airstrikes, heavy artillery and tanks, the infantry advanced deep into residential district 3 and gained more grounds from ISIS including the key Cordoba Mosque, which was renamed to Abu Musab Zarqawi Mosque following last year's tribal uprising against the group.

Leading ISIS preachers, including Bahraini Turki Benali, used to give Jihad lessons to ISIS followers in this mosque.

In August 2015, locals of residential district 3, mainly from Furjan tribe, turned against ISIS and clashed with its forces of Evil for days after the killing of Cordoba mosque's Imam Khaled Furjani. The Furjan fighters positioned inside Cordoba Mosque and used rooftops of nearby buildings to shoot at ISIS bully boys, who finally managed to put down the uprising.

The tossed in the slammer
Book 'im, Mahmoud!
members of Furjan tribe were executed outside the mosque, which was a key symbol for the tribe.

2 days later, ISIS renamed the mosque to Abu Musab Zarqawi and forced local residents and Furjan tribe members to attended Jihad lessons.

On Sunday, Misrata-led forces said around 70% of residential district 3 and 80% of residential district 1 were retaken from ISIS. 38 Misrata-led fighters were killed and more than 185 others maimed in the offensive.

In addition to the attack on the Saudi military airport in the Asir Province, the Houthi forces also targeted several Saudi army installations in the Jizan Region of southern Saudi Arabia.

The missile strikes in the Jizan Region reportedly resulted in a significant number of casualties for the Saudi-led Coalition forces.

ISIS claims suicide bombing at Yemeni military training camp
[CNN] ISIS has grabbed credit for a suicide boom-mobileing Monday that killed dozens of recruits at a military training camp in Yemen's southern port city of Aden, according to the ISIS-affiliated Amaq news agency.

At least 71 people were killed in the attack, and at least 33 others were maimed, according to the Aden governor's office and medics.

ADEN, Yemen: A Daesh group militant rammed his explosives-laden car into an army recruitment center in Aden on Monday, killing 60 people in the deadliest jihadist attack to hit the city in over a year.

Yemen’s army, supported by a Saudi-led coalition, is training young recruits to join its nationwide war against Shiite Houthi rebels and their allies, as well as Sunni jihadists.

Aden is the temporary base of Yemen’s internationally recognized government, which was forced into exile after Iran-backed insurgents seized Sanaa and other parts of the war-torn country.

Security officials told AFP that the attacker drove a car bomb into a gathering of army recruits at a school in northern Aden early Monday.

Although the school was locked as recruits registered inside, the attacker drove in when the gate was opened for a delivery vehicle, officials said.

Witnesses said some recruits were buried when a roof collapsed over them following the blast, which also damaged buildings close to the recruitment center.

The assault killed at least 60 people and wounded about 30 others, medical sources from the three hospitals where the victims were taken told AFP.

They could not immediately verify if all those killed were army recruits.

Doctors Without Borders (MSF) said on Twitter that their hospital in Aden “received 45 dead and at least 60 wounded” from the explosion.

Aden has seen a wave of bombings and shootings targeting officials and security forces.

Attacks in the port city are often claimed by jihadists from either Al-Qaeda or Daesh, who have both taken advantage of the chaos in Yemen to make gains in southern and southeastern regions.

Daesh claimed Monday’s bombing on its official propaganda outlet, Amaq, saying the blast had killed around 60 people.
Earlier this month, a suicide bomber rammed his vehicle into a large group of army reinforcements sent from Aden to fight jihadists in neighboring Lahj, killing five soldiers, according to military officials.

No group has claimed that attack.

But on July 20, four policemen were killed in an Daesh-claimed bomb attack in Aden.

And in May, twin suicide bombings in Aden claimed by Daesh killed at least 41 people.

Yemeni authorities have trained hundreds of soldiers in Aden over the past two months as part of operations to retake neighboring southern provinces from jihadists.

Earlier this month, Yemeni government forces backed by a Saudi-led coalition entered Abyan’s provincial capital Zinjibar.

Troops retook other towns across Abyan but have been met by fierce resistance in the key Al-Qaeda stronghold of Al-Mahfid, security sources said.

The militants are still present in areas surrounding the recaptured towns and control large parts of the neighboring Shabwa province, the sources say.

The Arab coalition battling Iran-backed rebels in Yemen has also been providing troops with air cover throughout their war against the jihadists.

The United States has meanwhile carried out numerous drone strikes against Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) operatives in Yemen.

The Saudi-led coalition intervened in Yemen in March last year and helped government troops push the rebels out of Aden and four other southern provinces since July 2015.

The war in Yemen has also impacted security in Saudi Arabia, where shelling from the kingdom’s impoverished neighbor killed three Saudi children and wounded nine other people on Sunday.

Cross-border attacks from Yemen have intensified since the suspension in early August of UN-brokered peace talks between the rebels and Yemen’s Saudi-backed government.

The Arab coalition has also stepped up its air raids in Yemen since peace talks collapsed.

More than 6,600 people, mostly civilians, have been killed in Yemen since March 2015 and more than 80 percent of the population has been left in need of humanitarian aid, according to the UN.

[TheSun] MAN screamed “Allahu Akbar” as he attacked a couple with their own picnic knife at a German music festival.

A 66-year-old woman, believed to be the other victim’s wife, is fighting for her life.

Her 57-year-old husband was seriously injured but managed to overpower the attacker who was then arrested by police officers in Oberhausen.

The attack took place just after 7pm on Saturday evening near Stadion Niederrhein,

Police officers say the suspect is a 26-year-old from Duisburg, Germany.

Local media said the man went on a “rampage” at the canal side music event.

He harassed several daytrippers before snatching a knife from the floor where the victims were enjoying a riverbank picnic.

He was tackled by the injured man as well as a cop and fireman.

Police said the man arrested was homeless and on drugs, but have not rules out a “political motivation”.

Turkish warbirds hit Kurd positions at Hasakah
Turkish warplanes bombed Kurdish militant targets in northern Iraq Monday, as Ankara pressed its military operation against ISIS militants and a Syrian Kurdish militia in neighboring Syria, state media said.

Turkish air force jets launched strikes between 09:30 and 10:55 GMT against targets of the “separatist terrorist organization” in Gara in northern Iraq, Anadolu news agency said, referring to the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).

The targets were “destroyed,” Anadolu added.

The PKK is proscribed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the European Union and the United States and its command is based in the Qandil mountains of northern Iraq.

The air strikes in northern Iraq were the first since the Syria operation began on Wednesday.

A Turkish military source, meanwhile, said Ankara responded with artillery fire after rocket and gunfire from Syria hit the Turkish border town of Kilis, some 80 km (50 miles) west of where Turkish-backed Syrian militia fighters launched an incursion last week.

It was not immediately clear who fired the rocket or opened fire from the Syrian side, the source said.

Kilis lies across from Syrian territory controlled by Kurdish militia forces but also close to an area held by ISIS militants.

A second Turkish official said three rockets had hit Kilis and that four people had been wounded.

Turkish military sources on Monday also denied the army fired at Syrian Kurdish YPG militia forces in Hasaka province, after the YPG said one of their fighters was injured by shots from Turkish forces along the border.

“It’s absolutely not true,” one of the sources told Reuters, adding that there was no operation by the Turkish military near Hasaka province.

Meanwhile, Turkey’s foreign minister on Monday ordered predominantly Kurdish Syrian militia forces to withdraw east of the Euphrates River “immediately” or face more strikes by Turkish forces that crossed the border last week.

Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu’s comments came as Syrian opposition groups reported that Turkish-backed Syrian militias have captured more towns and villages in northern Syria as part of the operation named “Euphrates Shield,” now in its sixth day.

Turkish tanks rolled across the border last week to help Syrian opposition fighters seize the town of Jarablus from ISIS, a move that was also aimed at deterring further advances by Kurdish-led militia forces.

Both Turkey and the United States have ordered the main Kurdish fighting force, the Kurdish People’s Protection Units, or YPG, to withdraw to the east bank of the Euphrates.

“The YPG has to immediately cross east of the Euphrates River as they promised the United States and as they announced they would,” Cavusoglu said. “If they don't they will be a target.”

Terrorists involved in Sri Lankan cricket team attack killed in Lahore raid
[TRIBUNE.PK] Three terrorists, who were allegedly involved in the attack on Sri Lankan cricket team in 2009, were killed in a police encounter in Lahore on Sunday, Express News reported.

According to the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD), local authorities had received information regarding murderous Moslems hiding in a building in Lahore’s Manawan area. As police entered the area, they were ambushed by seven murderous Moslems resulting in an hour-and-and-a-half long shootout.

Four attackers were killed in the firing exchange, with others fleeing the scene for which the CTD has already started a search operation. "The police team, which came under attack from terrorists, returned fire, killing four of them on the spot while the remaining three managed to escape," said a CTD spokesperson.

According to police, the dear departed have been identified as Zubair alias Naik Muhammad, Abdul Wahab, Adnan Arshad and Attiqur Rehman. Three were directly involved in the attack on Sri Lankan cricket team in 2009, whereas Rehman was a prime suspect in Moon Market bombing in Lahore in 2008.

Iraq
Fighting erupts among Iraqi militia groups in Diyala
Diyala –Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi has sent an elite force to Diyala governorate after several armed fights erupted between tribes in Abu Saida area.

Heavy and medium weapons were used in the clashes that led to the death and injury of several people.

An informed source told Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper that the fights were not purely tribal but also political.

The source explained that the clashes happened between members of the same faction, and most probably between members of the same legion of the Badr Organization. He went on to say that the armed dispute was between two platoons of Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) in the district.

The source added that the clash is not sectarian because both sides are Shi’ites, and is not political given that the two parties belong to the same tribe and have the same political affiliation.

The source concluded that the fight was about positions given that the governor wants to expel the director of Abo Saida area, whereas the director is trying to gather signatures on a petition to remove the governor from his post.

According to the source, this raises fears of possible inter-Shi’ite fight in the governorate after the disputes between the tribes have grown.

He added that the tribes and platoons were all united against al-Qaeda and then ISIS. But after ISIS’ withdrawal from the city there are fears that clashes could grow into more serious tension if the Baghdad leadership doesn’t contain the situation.

Diyala MP Salah al-Jabouri told Asharq al-Awsat that the fights in the governorate are neither among tribes nor among sects. He explained that the dispute is among armed forces and militias, raising fears that the fights would reach other governorates.

“These clashes are based on political and party interests,” he explained.

In addition, former Diyala governor Omar al-Hamiri told Asharq Al-Awsat that tribes of Diyala are an important pillar of the security, tribal and social aspect of the governorate. He added that the tribes had always had important roles in times of struggle and violence but never went into fights and clashes.

He explained that what had happened was due to personal interests.

Hamiri called upon all Diyala tribes to unite against those who want to benefit from the bloodshed of the members of the tribes.

ISIS Claims Karbala bombing
(IraqiNews.com) Karbala – ISIS has claimed a suicide bombing that killed at least 18 people and injured 16 others at a wedding on Sunday near Karbala, south of Baghdad

“Five suicide bombers attacked a wedding party in the Husseini neighborhood of the Ain Tamr district. Two of them blew themselves up, killing 18 people. Three other suicide bombers blew themselves up earlier,” said Iraqi security officials.

Video of ATGM hitting a Turkish tank in Jarablus
It's an M-60A1E2, a tank with weaker armor and main gun than the T-72. The Kornet until sometime five years ago was the Russian's top of the line ATGM. No surprise the M-60 didn't survive the hit.
The People’s Protection Units (also known as the YPG) rebels have reportedly fired missiles targeting Turkish tanks in Jarablus.

A Turkish soldier operating in Syria was killed by a YPG anti-tank missile that hit a tank and injured another three soldiers. This occurred close to the SDF-controlled village of Amelina where the YPG have built fortifications.

The casualties are the first for Turkey since the launch of Operation Euphrates Shield to rid the border region of terrorists on Wednesday.

Speaking on condition of anonymity due to restrictions on talking to the media, a military official said Russian-made Kornet anti-tank missiles were launched at two Turkish tanks, the northern Syrian city freed from Daesh.

The tanks were hit 7 kilometers south of Jarablus, where Turkish forces helped the Free Syrian Army (FSA) to clear Daesh terrorists from the area. The rockets had been fired from an area where the YPG militia has been active.

Turkish, Syrian forces close in on Taqba
Beirut- Turkey’s army pushed deeper into Syria as clashes sparked in al-Amarna, 8 km south of Jarabulus. Conflicting news on seizing the village spread; as Free Syrian Army sources announced that FSA seized the village, sources from the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights announced that Turkish forces and factions failed to take control of the town.

A statement by the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) said that warplanes carried out strikes on five buildings that belong to Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) and Syrian Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) in the region. The statement underlined that all precautions are being taken and that maximum care is being applied to prevent civilians living in the region from being hurt.
Just like they do in the Kurdish regions back home, no doubt.
Twenty-five members of PKK and YPG were killed in the strikes carried out by F-16 fighter jets, according to TSK.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a monitoring group, declared that 35 civilians had been killed and 75 wounded in the two villages hit by Turkish airstrikes in northern Syria. The group added that at least 20 were killed and 50 were wounded in Turkish bombardment on Jub al-Kousa.

Idriss Nassan, a senior Kurdish official in Kobane, told Asharq Al-Awsat that Jarablus and Manbij military councils and Army of Revolutionaries forces defied on Sunday the attack on al-Amarna. “There were casualties from both sides,” added Nassan.

Nassan also said that “Turkish expansion is a clear indicator that Turkey wants to impose a siege on self-administrations in east Euphrates,” however he doubted Turkey’s plan would see the light.

Furthermore, Kurdish fighters launched a battle whose target is to reach Tabqa, a city located in Raqqa Governorate, in order to cut off ISIS supply. Abu Mohammad al-Raqqawi, activist in the “Raqqa Is Being Slaughtered Silently,” told Asharq Al-Awsat that the forces are now 35 km away from Tabqa in race with the Syrian regime to reach this strategic city.

“The regime will fall short to move forward especially following the last three failed attempts, given that it is a desert area … that makes regime forces easy prey for ISIS,” added Raqqawi.

Airstrikes hit Homs
[AlArabiya] Jets believed to be Syrian planes hit the besieged Al-Waer neighborhood in the city of Homs on Sunday, a day after the evacuation of residents and fighters from rebel-held Daraya on the outskirts of the capital, residents and a monitor said.

They said over a dozen air strikes on the residential quarter caused at least seven deaths and dozens of civilian injuries in the last rebel-held area in Homs city, Syria’s third largest city.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said a woman and child were among the dead. Videos posted by social media showed children suffering burns from what activists said were incendiary bombs. Reuters could not independently verify the images.

It was the second day of air raids, the first such strikes since around a year ago in the rebel-held area where community leaders in December reached a UN-sponsored deal with authorities to evacuate fighters under a phased plan that would have shored up government control of the city.

But there has been no progress since the evacuation of hundreds of fighters in implementing later phases of the deal that stipulates that fighters still in the district must surrender heavy weapons while being allowed to keep their light arms.

Homs was a center of the uprising against Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. A previous truce in Homs in 2014 allowed insurgents to withdraw from the Old City while Al-Waer remained in the hands of insurgents.

It has since been under a tight siege by Syrian army and pro-government militias. Aside from several UN humanitarian deliveries, the authorities have blocked supplies of most food and aid into the quarter.

Residents and local officials said the escalation came a day after former rebel-held Daraya, a Damascus suburb, was evacuated by rebels after relentless bombing and a tough siege.

They accuse the army of stepping up military pressure on Al-Waer to force a capitulation of the rebels who are estimated to number several thousand in a district with at least 50,000 civilians.

“The regime after succeeding in evicting the people of Daraya has begun to escalate its pressure on us,” said Bebars Tilawi, an activist in the quarter.

Aid officials and Washington have decried what they call a “starve-or-surrender tactic” they say is used mainly by the Syrian government and other warring parties as a tool against besieged areas to regain government control.

Turkish backed rebels detain US backed rebels at al-Kusa
[ARA News] ALEPPO – Kurdish forces of the People’s Protection Units (YPG) hold the Turkish government responsible for the treatment of four fighters that were captured by its proxy forces in northern Syria, the YPG said in a statement on Monday.

“Turkish warplanes on August 28 bombed the village of Al-Kusa south of Jarabulus city. As a result, tens of civilians were massacred and an unknown number of local residents were injured,” the YPG said. “After the attack, the [SDF-linked] Military Council of Jarabulus whose forces were positioned in the area called for urgent support in order to help evacuating civilians and treating the injured.”

“Accordingly, a unit of the People’s Protection Units (YPG) – formed of four fighters – tried to reach the noted area as they were ready near Qereqozax bridge. Yet, Turkish army and affiliated militants ambushed the vehicle of that unit and captured four combatants inside,” the YPG said.

After the fighters were captured, they were paraded on pictures without clothes and exposed to torture in public.

“From this point, we say to the public opinion, we consider the Turkish government and its army fully responsible for the life and health of our fighters,” the YPG added.

Turkey-backed rebels and the Turkish army captured the town of Jarabulus on 24 August without a fight. Immediately afterwards, clashes started to erupt between US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the pro-Turkey factions.

On Monday, the SDF-backed Jarabulus Military Council said it would withdraw its fighters to the south of Sajur river, in order to protect civilians.

“After Turkey carried out a massacre in south of Jarabulus and threatened us to target civilian villages again, we decided to withdraw,” the council said.

The YPG leadership reported on Monday renewed Turkish artillery shelling and airstrikes that led to the death and injury of scores of civilians in northern Syria.

“Intensified random shelling by Turkish army forces killed 5 civilians, including 3 children, in Dandania village southern Jarabulus, northern Syria,” the YPG said.

Syrian Army counterattacks in northern Hama
[ALMASDARNEWS] After ISIS-affiliated Jund Al-Aqsa group supported by the FSA faction "Jaish Al-Nasr" captured a few villages and checkpoints on the outskirts of the Christian village of Mharda, local NDF units launched a counterattack capturing Buweida and the surrounding checkpoints.

Effectively, the aforementioned jihadists are now surrounded at Madagin village lying at the mercy of the assaulting government troops.

To rub salt onto the wounds of the terrorist-affiliated bully boys, Syrian and Russian warplanes have unleashed an incessant bombing campaign on their positions in the vicinity of Morek and Lataminah targeting their supply lines, fortifications, and armored vehicles.

It is most likely that this surprise offensive was aimed at lifting the pressure off the kill zone of southwest Aleppo where high-ranking Jaish Al-Fateh commanders are being killed on a daily basis. Therefore, it is unlikely that the Islamists are going to maintain their positions for long in the relatively static front line of northern Hama.

Prominent jihadi leaders desert ISIS ranks in Deir ez-Zor

[ARA News] GIRKE LEGE – Amid deteriorating security conditions in Syria’s eastern Deir ez-Zor province and the heavy losses that ISIS has recently suffered there, leading members of the radical group started to evacuate their positions and desert the ranks of the Islamic State (ISIS), activists reported on Monday.

Muhammad al-Rafdan, ISIS security chief in Deir ez-Zor, and Rafid Abdulkareem, the group’s military official in the same province, have reportedly escaped Deir ez-Zor.

“Both ISIS officials have deserted the group’s ranks. The ISIS-linked Hisba police found out that the two leading members of the group had left the province with their families earlier on Sunday,” local media activist Muhammad al-Haman told ARA News, citing ISIS members.

“It was not immediately clear where al-Rafdan and Abdulkareem have headed to,” the source said.

The two dissidents were members of the local Arab tribe of Al Agedat in Deir ez-Zor. They had reportedly joined ISIS ranks in early 2015, and promoted to leading positions in the group’s ranks for their influential status over the people of Deir ez-Zor province, according to local sources.
