Afghanistan
Taliban Seize Helmand's Nawa District
Taliban on Monday launched a coordinated assault on Nawa district in the southern province of Helmand, seizing control of the strategic town from government forces.

Nawa police chief was also killed during the battle with the hardline militant group.

"We have pushed back the enemy in Aqtash, Khanabad and Qala-e-Zal distircts. The enemy has tried to keep us busy here," said Mohammad Radmanish, deputy spokesman for Defense Ministry.

Meanwhile, Helmand lawmakers warned that Khanashin, Marjah, Nad Ali and Garmsir districts are also on the verge of collapse.

"When they [government] see Taliban silent for some days, they think that they have eliminated all of them, but they [Taliban] are deceiving them and making their plans for their next attacks," said Fatima Aziz, an MP.

"Most parts of Helmand are under siege by Taliban and the war is ongoing in Lashkargah," said Hashim Alokozay, another MP.

In recent weeks, Taliban has changed their tactics and launched attacks on major towns.

"The war has reached a deadlock. There is no possibility of launching large-scale military operations by the security forces due to extension and complexity of the war," said Saleh Mohammad Registani, a military commentator.

Taliban Fighters Penetrate Heart of Afghan City of Kunduz
[WSJ] Taliban forces battled their way into the heart of Kunduz on Monday despite efforts by U.S.-backed Afghan government forces to defend the northern city against the coordinated assault, officials and residents said.

The lightning offensive, which came almost a year to the day after the Islamist Lions of Islam briefly seized control of the city in a similar attack, deals a sharp blow to efforts by the government of President Ashraf Ghani
...former chancellor of Kabul University, now president of Afghanistan. Before returning to Afghanistan in 2002 he was a scholar of political science and anthropology. He worked at the World Bank working on international development assistance. As Finance Minister of Afghanistan between July 2002 and December 2004, he led Afghanistan's attempted economic recovery until the Karzais stole all the money. ..
to quell the 15-year insurgency and arrest the growing insecurity that has swept the country in recent months.

In less than a day, many government offices in Kunduz, including the headquarters of the provincial council, fell to the bully boys, and heavy fighting was raging in many parts of the city, said Sayed Assadullah Sadat, a council member.

"The Taliban have reached the city’s main square and taken control of it," Akbar Farhang, a resident, said by telephone from Kunduz.

The governor’s office, along with the city’s airport and its main Afghan army base, remained in government control, Mr. Sadat and other residents said, as U.S. warplanes provided air support to Afghan troops on the ground.

The U.S.-led coalition appeared unaware of a major assault just hours before the Taliban entered the city. "At this point, we are not observing evidence via our internal means to support the reports that Kunduz is under significant attack," it had said on Twitter early Monday.

Some residents were fleeing as Taliban forces advanced, Mr. Sadat said, while others had locked themselves indoors in parts of Kunduz that had fallen under bully boys’ control. Human rights groups last year accused the gunnies of abuses when they were in control of the city, including summary executions of people suspected of working for the government.

"The Taliban have taken the neighborhood I live in. They are in control of half of the city," said Mohammad Essa. "The children are frightened and everybody is so scared."

Afghan special forces arrived in Kunduz late Monday in an effort to regain control of the city, a replay of events last year when the elite teams, backed by U.S. soldiers on the ground, fought for days to drive out the bully boys.

More from Khaama:
The Taliban militants group has released numerous videos earlier this evening which purportedly shows the capture of the strategic Kunduz city in north of Afghanistan.

The authenticity of the videos which can not be independently verified shows the Taliban group moving towards the main square which was captured by the group last year.

The group has also released several other videos which purportedly shows the militants of Taliban moving in parts of the city as they hang around the public places in the city.

However the officials in the Ministry of Defense have rejected the fall of the city to Taliban as baseless.
All lies!
The Ministry of Defense (MoD) said the Taliban militants launched an attack from the west part of the 3rd police district of the earlier today but the attack was repulsed.

MoD further added that additional forces have been deployed and more troops are on the way to repulse the Taliban attack.

Earlier, reports suggested that the militants of the group have started taking positions in the residential areas as they attempt to avoid airstrikes and ground operations by the Afghan forces.

The Taliban group launched a coordinated attack on Kunduz city earlier today, almost a year after the group captured the control of the city and coicides with a deadly airstrike carried out on MSF hospital in the city.

Libyan forces lose six fighters in Sirte
[AlArabiya] Libyan forces resumed a ground attack on Sunday against ISIS militants encircled in their former stronghold of Sirte, losing at least six of their fighters, according to a field hospital casualty list.

The list named six killed fighters, three of them from the city of Misrata. The forces also said that the bodies of at least 10 slain ISIS militants had been counted. The report could not be verified.

Forces dominated by fighters from Misrata and aligned with Libya’s UN-backed government have been battling to capture Sirte for more than four months.

Supported since Aug. 1 by US air strikes, they have taken control of most of the city and have been besieging militants trapped in a thin residential strip near Sirte’s seafront for several weeks.

Their advance has been slowed by ISIS snipers, improvised explosive devices and suicide bombings in close quarter street battles. Occasional ground attacks are interspersed by rest periods that allow fighters to regroup and
hospitals to clear casualties.

The Misrata-led forces said in a statement posted on social media that they had conducted air sorties in preparation for a ground offensive on Sunday in Sirte’s neighborhood Number Three.

As of Friday, the United States said it had carried out a total of 177 air strikes against ISIS in Sirte.

Morocco dismantles cell of women Islamic State extremists
[FOXNEWS] Morocco's Interior Ministry says authorities have detained 10 women linked to the Islamic State

group who are suspected of plotting suicide kabooms and trying to recruit other women to join the myrmidons.

The ministry said in a statement that the Central Bureau of Judicial Investigations dismantled the cell of women faceless myrmidons Monday, in operations in eight towns.

The ministry chemical products seized at the home of one suspect could be used in explosives.

The women allegedly declared allegiance to IS, and some have family ties to Moroccan fighters with IS in Syria or Iraq, the statement said. The women are in jug pending further investigation.

Radicalization among disenchanted youth is a growing problem in Morocco, and authorities have stepped up operations against suspected IS cells.

Arabia
Local officials defuse 8 bombs in Al Mukalla totaling 1K lbs
Al Mukalla, Aden- The bomb disposal unit in Al Mukalla, south Yemen, defused eight explosive barrels, each weighing 65 kilograms and containing more than 520 kilograms of TNT explosives and C4.

The barrels were planted by al-Qaeda inside the wrecks of an old sunk ship six meters deep in the Arabian Sea. They were connected via wires, made especially for the purpose of bombing.

“If the terrorist members blew up these barrels, houses would have been totally destroyed as well as the fishing boats in the nearby port and the commercial ones not to mention the harm on fisheries and the coral reefs,” said Brigadier General Abu Salih al Yafei.

He described the operation as successful given that the unit specialized in disposing mines began defusing the explosives immediately after being notified. According to the brigadier general, the unit disposed each barrel separately before moving them to the sea, away from the city and the fishing boats.

Another military source in the Saudi Arabian Coalition stated that investigations with al-Qaeda members who were arrested and others who surrendered helped uncover the plot.

Short time has passed since liberating the city from al-Qaeda (end of April), yet Hadramout Elite Forces imposed security in the city and foiled several attempts to shake it. The authorities were able to restructure the police and activate the stations to enforce security and handle conflicts with the assistance of the judicial bodies.

The authorities worked on returning the state institutions to normal operation as well as the provision of basic needs to citizens. By setting up quick solutions, the authorities succeeded in enhancing water, electricity, health, roads and sanitary services in a way that alleviates citizens’ daily sufferings.

Details behind Saudi ‘mother of death’
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Gone are the days when unfortunate parents would be shocked to discover their children’s path to extremism only after they had committed atrocities. This doesn’t seem to be true anymore.

In more recent times, the trend being dubbed by regional media as "mothers of death" has seen sons being prompted to join the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. , including 13 Saudis, an Egyptian, a Yemeni, a Paleostinian and a woman.
...the last of whom clearly has no nationality.
They were found to be conspiring to carry out terrorist activities.

Among them was a woman named Khulood al-Rukaibi.

Who was Khulood al-Rukaibi?
Rukaibi, known by ISIS as "Umm Mohammed" is in her late forties with a primary level education. She married a man who was allegedly weak in being "the man of the house". He fathered her six children ‐ four boys and two girls.

According to AlArabiya.net’s investigation, social media sources reported that one of Khulood’s sons is already fighting in Syria. Two of her other sons ‐ Hamad and Nassar ‐ were recruited to carry out attacks inside Saudi Arabia.

According to investigations carried out by the Saudi Ministry of Interior, she was the brain and the power behind the ISIS cell that were planning to carry out attacks in Saudi Arabia but were foiled during a September 18 raid by the authorities.

Those three cells were planning four attacks and had reached advanced stages of preparation. The aim was to target citizens, religious scholars, security forces and military, security and economic facilities in different areas as well as religious sites in al-Ahsa and security headquarters linked to the defense and interior ministries.
With that kind of ambition in her heart, perhaps her husband was wise to play King Log at home.

Europe
Nine dead as Italy rescues 6,055 migrants on disaster anniversary
[MIDDLEEASTEYE.NET] Italia's coastguard said nine corpses were recovered in operations in which 6,055 people were rescued off Libya on Monday, three years to the day after 366 people died in the sinking incident that first alerted the world to the Mediterranean migrant crisis.

In a poignant reminder of the ongoing drama being played out on Europe's southern shores, the coastguard coordinated the rescue of a total of 39 distressed vessels, the bulk of them overcrowded rubber dinghies but also including five converted fishing boats crammed full of people, mostly Africans.

Just under 200 minors were among those saved from one of the former fishing boats which had some 720 people on board, according to NGO SOS Mediterranee.

Most of the minors were unaccompanied and nine were under five years old. At least 10 of the 191 women on board were pregnant.

Two women and a child had to be evacuated for medical treatment after suffering severe burns caused by spilled fuel during a rescue from a rubber dinghy by a boat operated by the Doctors without Borders (MSF) charity.

A young pregnant woman died from her burns after being rescued during a second operation by the MSF boat dignity, the charity said.

"It is unacceptable that in 2016 these people have no other choice than to embark on these incredibly dangerous sea journeys," said MSF coordinator Nicolas Papachrysostomou.

The Italian coastguard said the operations had taken place in an area around 30 miles north of the Libyan capital Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...

And then the invaders were returned to Libya rather than stupidly carried the rest of the way to Europe?

The Grand Turk
One dead after rockets from Syria hit Turkish town
[AlArabiya] One Turkish policeman was killed and two soldiers wounded on Sunday after three rockets fired from an area in Syria controlled by ISIS militants hit the border town of Kilis, the provincial governor's office said.

The three rockets caused no initial damage when they hit an empty area in the centre of the Turkish town, which has been repeatedly struck by rockets fired from Syria over the last months.

However the policeman was killed and two soldiers wounded when they went to destroy the unexploded ordnance, which blew up, the Kilis governor's office said in a statement.

The Turkish army meanwhile said it responded to the rocket attack with artillery fire according to the rules of engagement.

The strikes come 40 days into an unprecedented incursion into Syria by Turkish forces aimed at rooting ISIS militants and Kurdish militia from the border area.

The necessity of ending cross border rocket strikes like the latest attacks on Kilis was one of the reasons given by the government for the operation.

Kilis has come under repeated attack from rocket fire from Syria in the last months, with 23 people killed, over half of them Syrian refugees.

Turkish warbirds hit Kurd Kommie Kommand center
[ARA News] URFA – The Turkish Air Force struck several Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) strongholds on Monday. According to military sources, the air raids occurred in Kurdish-majority Şırnak Province, in south-east Turkey.

“At least eight PKK positions were bombed by our air force today,” the Turkish Central Command said in a statement, adding that dozens of PKK fighters were killed and injured.

Fighting also raged on the ground, throughout Monday. Intense clashes broke out between the Kurdish PKK insurgents and Turkish security forces in Hakkari Province.

The PKK initiated the clashes by bombing a Turkish security centre in the mountainous Hakkari countryside. In a separate attack, the PKK detonated a roadside bomb near Dağlıca village, killing at least two soldiers.

“More than 20 Turkish forces were killed in the clashes,” a PKK officer told ARA News, speaking on condition of anonymity. “We will continue the fight against the oppressive Turkish government until liberating the Kurdish region and ending decades of oppression on our people.”

Klingon Master: We 'have to assume' terrorist activity in the U.S.
[CNN] The director of the CIA said Wednesday despite the government's best efforts, the likelihood of terrorist activity in the United States is strong.

"So I think we have to assume there's something here in the states," said John Brennan, in an interview for CNN's "Erin Burnett OutFront" that aired Wednesday night. "We have to be relentless in terms of going after them."

Brennan, who was appointed to lead the CIA shortly before President Barack Obama's second term, said "it's impossible to say" whether ISIS has operatives or cells in the United States, and he credited the "tremendous advances in information sharing and interaction between federal officials" in making it difficult for terrorists to operate in the country.

He said he is confident that the US will be "able to remove other senior members" of ISIS, including the organization's leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.

Man Living in Maryland Charged in Islamic State Group Case
[ABCNEWS.GO] A citizen of Bangladesh who was living in Maryland has been charged with attempting to provide material support and resources to the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. group.

A court document says that 24-year-old Nelash Mohammed Das of Hyattsville was ready to carry out what he thought was an attack on a member of the U.S. military when he was placed in durance vile
... anything you say can and will be used against you, whether you say it or not...
Friday. The supposed attack was set up by a confidential informant for the FBI.

Das, a legal permanent resident of the United States, made his first appearance in federal court Monday. He has been ordered held until a detention hearing Thursday. Online court records did not list an attorney for him, though a spokeswoman for the United States Attorney for the District of Maryland said Das had been assigned a public defender. An attempt by The News Agency that Dare Not be Named to reach the attorney Monday evening by phone for comment was unsuccessful.

If convicted, Das faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.

Das voiced support on his social media accounts for the Islamic State group from late 2015 to early 2016, including support for attacks in Gay Paree and San Bernardino, Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party,, and had taken a class and submitted fingerprints in order to get a handgun permit, according to court documents filed in his case. He told a confidential informant for the FBI that he wanted to kill U.S military personnel, the court documents say.

Conducting an attack is "like my goal in life," Das allegedly told the informant.

Das met the FBI's confidential informant in May 2016 and thought he was a like-minded supporter of the Islamic State group, the court documents say.

The confidential informant told Das he had gotten information about a target, member of the U.S. military, from an Islamic State group contact in Iraq. Das allegedly said he wanted to help carry out an attack on the person and bought ammunition for it. Das believed that the confidential informant's contact in Iraq would pay $80,000 in exchange for the attack, the court documents say.
A mercenary? Then he is merely a jackel of Islam, not a lion.
Das was arrested after loading a gun and traveling with the informant to a location where he believed they would conduct the attack, the court documents say.

India-Pakistan
Indian Coast Guard detains 9 Pak fishermen
[Dawn] NEW DELHI: Indian Coast Guard has apprehended a Pakistani boat with nine crew members from the Arabian Sea off Gujarat, The Hindu reported on Sunday.

It said the coast guard ship Samudra Pavak apprehended the boat and its crew at around 10:15am on Sunday.

According to a preliminary inquiry, crew members are fishermen. “The preliminary information indicates the crew to be Pakistani fishermen. However, the boat and the crew member are being escorted to Porbandar for further rummaging / joint investigation,” said a release issued by the Defence PRO Wing Commander Abhishek Matiman.

The coast guard has intensified surveillance along the 1,600km-long coastline in Gujarat in the wake of self-proclaimed surgical strikes by Indian security forces in Azad Kashmir. The ‘surgical strikes’ were conducted by India after a terrorist attack on its military camp at Uri in held Kashmir in which 18 soldiers were killed.

The coast guard has deployed ships and aircraft to enhance surveillance and vigil.

“In the prevailing security scenario...enhanced vigil with deployment of ships and aircraft by the Indian coast guard is being exercised off the Gujarat coast,” the release said.

Shazia Hasan adds from Karachi: A Pakistan Fisherfolk Forum (PFF) spokesman was reluctant to confirm the capture.

“The PFF immediately got in touch with the fisher folk along the Sindh coastline for confirmation of the incident but so far we have nothing to confirm it,” said PFF spokesman Kamal Shah, though he appeared to be aware of reports about the incident.

“Fisher folk of Karachi, Thatta and Badin and many others living along the coastline are bracing themselves for the worst,” said Mr Shah. “They say that since many fishing boats are out to sea they would only find out if any one is missing when the boats return in a day or two.”

“We lose contact with the boats once they are out. News about the incident then would either be with another boat near it, or we can determine that a boat is missing when it fails to return back home,” he explained, adding that the fisher folk community was quite disturbed by the news and was waiting to hear the name of the captured boat or the men abroad it.

More from Dawn:
ISLAMABAD: Pakistani and Indian troops exchanged fresh fire across the Line of Control (LoC) in three separate incidents on Monday, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said.

The exchange of firing occurred along the Line of Control in the Nezapir and Kailer sectors, and Iftikharabad, a town in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, ISPR reported.

According to the military's media wing, the first incident of firing took place around midnight in Iftikharabad, whereas the second incident was reported in Nezapir at 11:30am. A third ceasefire violation was reported in the afternoon in Kailer by ISPR.

"Pakistani troops are befittingly responding to Indian unprovoked firing," it added.

There were no reports of casualties on either sides.

Pakistani and Indian troops last exchanged fire in the Bhimber sector on Saturday, with no damage reported then either.

The fresh exchange comes hours after suspected militants attacked an Indian army camp in Baramulla town of Indian-held Kashmir, killing at least one trooper of the Border Security Force (BSF) and leaving another injured.

The Indian army camp that was attacked late Sunday in the garrison town of Baramulla is the local headquarters of a counterinsurgency military unit.

Senior local police official Imtiyaz Hussain Mir on Monday told media between two and four militants were involved in the attack, which also injured one trooper.

“There is a big civilian population around the camp because of which we could not go all out. Otherwise there would have been civilian casualties. They took advantage of the darkness and used civilian houses as a shield to escape,” he said.

Rising tensions
Earlier in September, in one of the worst episodes of cross-border firing along the LoC, at least two Pakistan Army soldiers were killed as Indian troops opened fire on the first line of defence.

India also claimed to have performed a "surgical strike" by crossing the disputed boundary. The Indian claims were rubbished by Pakistan Army.

It later emerged that an Indian soldier was captured by the Pakistan army, while Indian soldiers were also killed in the episode of firing across the LoC.

The latest incidents of cross-border firing came as tensions simmer between Pakistan and India over the Kashmir issue.

India this month initiated a diplomatic drive to isolate Pakistan after blaming it for the Sept 18 attack on the Uri army camp in IHK which killed 18 soldiers ─ a claim which Pakistan has rejected.

Temperature between the South Asian rivals has been high since an Indian crackdown on dissent in India-held Kashmir following the killing by Indian forces of Burhan Wani, a young separatist leader, in July.

Indian Army camp attacked in Kashmir
NEW DELHI - Suspected militants fired on a military camp in Indian-held Kashmir late Sunday killing one trooper, two weeks after a similar deadly attack that spiked tensions between arch rivals India and Pakistan.

One paramilitary officer was also injured during the firing by an unknown number of militants in Baramulla town, northwest of Srinagar.

“One BSF man has been killed and another injured,” senior police superintendent of Baramulla, Imtiyaz Hussain Mir, told AFP, referring to the Border Security Force (BSF).

Mir said the gunmen were not successful in breaching the perimeter of the camp, located inside the town.

The Indian army said on Twitter the “incident” had been brought under control and firing had stopped, without saying whether any suspected militants had been killed or captured.

“Terrorists opened fire on an army camp in Baramulla town,” Colonel Rajesh Kalia earlier told AFP.

Local media quoted residents as saying that loud gunfire could be heard coming from the camp.

The attack comes after India last week claimed it launched an attack across the Line of Control, prompting a furious response from Islamabad.

The move followed the deadly attack on one of India’s army bases in Held Kashmir, triggering a public outcry and demands for military action.

The September 18 raid on the Uri army base by militants hurling grenades left 18 Indian soldiers dead in the worst such attack in more than a decade.

Islamabad has dismissed last week’s talk of surgical strikes across the heavily militarised LoC as an “illusion” and said two of its soldiers had been killed in small arms fire.

According to Reuters, at least six militants attacked the Indian army camp.

The attack on the camp of India’s 46 Rastriya Rifles in Baramulla, which also houses a unit of the Border Security Force (BSF), started at around 10:30 pm and repeated exchanges of fire ensued.

Local reports that two attackers had been killed could not immediately be confirmed.

Also on Sunday, Indian Coast Guard officials claimed to have arrested the crew members of a Pakistani boat as soon as it entered the Indian waters around 10.15 am.

“In the prevailing scenario, Coast Guard ship Samudra Pavak apprehended a Pakistani boat with nine crew members,” an official statement said.

According to a Pakistani private TV channel, the Foreign Office has rejected Indian claim that they have impounded a boat and arrested its crew.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that India has never coveted any territory or attacked another country though it made sacrifices for the freedom of others.

“...It is neither hungry for land. But in the two World Wars (in which India had no direct stake), 150,000 lakh Indian soldiers had laid down their lives,” Modi said while speaking in New Delhi.

“In the last two years, you have seen how the government rescued people from conflict situations, not just Indians but foreigners too,” Modi said, apparently referring to his government’s rescue missions in trouble-torn West Asia.

Indian defence minister said Delhi was working to secure the release of a soldier held in Pakistan but it will take “some days”.

India says the soldier was captured Thursday after he “inadvertently” crossed over into the Pakistani side of the de facto border that divides Kashmir between the two nuclear-armed neighbours.

Manohar Parrikar said the capture did not relate to the Indian military’s attack. “He had crossed over, which happens in border areas. There is a well-established mechanism through DGMO (Director General of Military Operations) which has been activated,” the minister said, according to the Press Trust of India news agency.

“Since the situation is tense right now, it will take some days to bring the soldier back.”

India has evacuated thousands of people near the Pakistani border in Punjab state following the military raids on militant posts, which provoked furious charges of “naked aggression” from Pakistan.

Indian and Pakistani troops regularly exchange fire across the disputed border known as the Line of Control (LoC) in Kashmir, but sending ground troops over the line is rare.

The attack on the 46 RR camp came in the wake of the Indian Army's surgical strikes on September 29 across the Line of Control in Pakistain-Occupied Kashmire, in which almost 50 bad boyz were potted.

The strikes were conducted to avenge the killing of 19 soldiers by four JeM turbans in the garrison town of Uri in Baramulla district on September 18.

Iraq
Kurds, ISIS fight it out over Bartilla
[ARA News] ERBIL – Kurdish Peshmerga shelled an Islamic State (ISIS) headquarters on Monday. Military sources reported that the barrage occurred near a Christian town in Iraq’s northwestern Nineveh Governorate.

The Peshmerga employed heavy artillery, bombing ISIS redoubts in Bartilla town, east of Mosul city.

“The bombardment caused a massive destruction to the ISIS headquarters in Bartilla. At least 16 ISIS terrorists were killed,” Kurdish army officer Lukman Baker said.

After the attack, intense clashes took place between Peshmerga forces and ISIS militants in the town’s vicinity. Two Peshmerga fighters were killed and five others were injured.

Iraqi Kurdistan hosts thousands of Christian civilians who fled from ISIS-held areas, notably Mosul. According to Baker, the Kurdish forces are trying to liberate Bartilla and other similar areas from ISIS in order to facilitate the return of the displaced civilians.

“Hundreds of Christians have been displaced from the town after ISIS took over Mosul [in June 2014],” local media activist Hawar Duhoki told ARA News. “The Peshmerga are trying to regain the town for its strategic location at the eastern entrance of Mosul, in preparation for attacking the city with support from the US-led coalition and the Iraqi Army.”

ISIS destroys, loots archaeological sites near Kirkuk
[Iraq News] Iraqi media outlets reported on Sunday that ISIS blew up and robbed graves and archaeological sites in the areas under its control, southwest of the province Kirkuk.

"ISIS bombed nearly 100 archaeological graves in the vicinity of Hawija (55 km southwest of Kirkuk), using kabooms and bulldozers," Al Sumaria News stated. "Groups belonging to ISIS exhumed a number of archaeological sites in the areas of Tel al-Mahwis and al-Riyadh (45 km southwest of Kirkuk) and stole antiquities found in those locations," Al Sumaria added.

The Iraqi website also revealed that the members of the terror group did not receive their salaries due to the loss of financial resources, which was provided by the smuggling of crude oil. Thus, selling antiquities provides needed financial resources for the ISIS group.

The areas located southwest of Kirkuk have been under the ISIS control since June 2014, including the areas of Hawija, Zab, Riyad, Abbasi and Rashad. These areas are known to have important antiquities and archaeological sites belonging to the Assyrian era.

#2  During the life of Mohammed and his early successors there was no Bayt al-Mal (treasury) as all funds collected for charitable purposes were soon distributed. That all changed under the Caliph Omar under whose Caliphate an official treasury department was created. It is the same Omar who instituted his "Covenant", a series of laws that impacted the infidels (dhimmi). An essential work that deals with the deprivation of dhimmi rights (which are still in part or in whole employed throughout the Muslim world), is found in Raphael Patai's indispensible "The Seed of Abraham"

Abu Sayyaf releases three Indonesian hostages
[Mindanao Examiner] Abu Sayyaf rebels on Sunday freed 3 Indonesian hostages to the Moro National Liberation Front in the southern Philippines. Officials identified them as Muhammad Mahbrur Dahri, Ferry Arifin and Edi Suryono, all tugboat crew members who were kidnapped in Sabah on June 22. The boat was heading to East Kalimantan following a trip from the Philippines when gunmen on speedboats intercepted the vessel.

MNLF chief Nur Misuari, escorted by dozens of armed followers, personally handed over the hostages to Sulu Governor Totoh Tan. Tan immediately turned them over to the Philippine military after feeding them.

Indonesian media previously reported that the hostages were held by the cell of Alhabsi Misaya, a former MNLF militant. Misaya left the MNLF and joined the Abu Sayyaf several years ago after Misuari reportedly ordered his execution, according to military intelligence reports.

Recently, Malaysia has ordered negotiators to intensify talks with the Abu Sayyaf in an effort to secure the freedom of five Malaysian tugboat crew members being held captive in Sulu.

The Abu Sayyaf contacted the Malaysian newspaper The Star and allowed one of the hostages Mohd Ridzuan Ismail to speak to its staff. Mohd Ridzuan said they were constantly being threatened and beaten by the Abu Sayyaf, and pleaded desperately with authorities to secure their safe release. He said, "We can’t bear it anymore. We are in pain. All of us are sick. We have cuts on our bodies. We are weak. No food to eat. What’s more, we are beaten. There are people who want to shoot us. Please help us."

He said a man who introduced himself as Abu Rami demanded P100 million ransoms for the five Malaysian hostages, who are reportedly being held in three separate groups in Luuk town.

Mohd Ridzuan said their captors only give them rice and rarely feed them. "We're suffering in Jolo (Sulu) Island. We appeal to the Malaysian government and our boss to negotiate for our release as we want to return home as soon as possible. We are frightened. This is not our place. They whack us and they told us that they can shoot us," he said.

2 die in ISIS bombing attack in Hama
[AlManar] At least two people were killed on Monday in suicide blasts in the central Syrian city of Hama, claimed by the ISIL terrorist group.

State news agency SANA, citing a local police source, said two “terrorists” detonated their explosive belts near Assi Square in the city center about 15 minutes apart. The attack killed two people and wounded 12 others, Hama governor Ghassan Khalaf told state television.

According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitor, one of the blasts hit a building used by the ruling Baath party. The ISIL-affiliated Amaq news agency said “suicide attacks by fighters from the ‘Islamic State’ using explosive vests” targeted government buildings in the city.

Syrian rebels advance in Dabiq
[ARA News] ALEPPO – Warplanes of the US-led coalition on Monday struck the ISIS-held town of Dabiq in Syria’s northern Aleppo Governorate.

The coalition targeted an ISIS training camp and a security centre in Dabiq, killing and wounding over 20 militants.

Another airstrike hit a residential neighbourhood in the town. “At least eight civilians were killed and ten others wounded in the air raid,” rights activist Habib Saleh told ARA News.

Dabiq is mentioned in an Islamic Hadith about the end of the world. Consequently, the Islamic State’s online magazine is named after the town.

ISIS believes that Dabiq is where Muslim and infidel forces will eventually face each other. According to the Hadith, “after the infidel forces’ defeat, the apocalypse will begin”.

Also on Monday, Turkey-backed rebels captured new areas in the northern countryside of Aleppo.

“Backed by an air cover from the coalition, rebel fighters of the Euphrates Shield expelled ISIS from the eastern suburb of Maree town,” rebel spokesman Salih al-Zein told ARA News.

“The rebels have also captured the Akhtarin village after heavy clashes with ISIS,” the spokesman said, adding that four ISIS militants were killed and several others were wounded in the clashes.

US Supports Battle for Dabiq
The US-led coalition is supporting an offensive by Turkey-backed rebels with the aim of seizing the town of Dabiq. Dabiq is heavily defended by the Islamic State (ISIS), owing to its importance in Muslim eschatology.

Coalition envoy Brett McGurk said on Sunday: “The coalition is actively supporting [Turkey-backed] Syrian opposition forces as they advance to within a few kilometers of [ISIS’] weakening stronghold Dabiq.”

On August 24, Turkey launched the Euphrates Shield Operation with the goal of preventing the Syrian Kurds from uniting their canton administrations.

This led to clashes between the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and Turkey-backed rebels.

At the same time, both the SDF and Turkey-backed rebels are advancing in the direction of al-Bab City, another ISIS stronghold.

Syrian cave hospital out of action after 'bunker-buster' attack
[MIDDLEEASTEYE.NET] A fortified hospital built deep into a hillside in Syria's Hama province was out of action on Monday after being hit by suspected "bunker buster" bombs while another strike hit the M10 hospital in Aleppo.

The latest attacks on hospitals in northern Syria came as suicide kabooms in the bustling provincial capital Hama killed two people, as rebel sources said they were opening a new front to ease pressure on besieged Aleppo.

The KafrZita hospital, dug 15 metres into a hill, was reported "out of operation" after being hit on Sunday at 5pm, according to the Syrian American Medical Society (SAMS). No casualties were reported.

The attack came as as a coalition of rebels edge closer to government-controlled Hama city, which has largely remained immune to the violence of the Syrian war.

Sources told Middle East Eye that rebels were putting pressure on government forces in Hama in an attempt to relieve pressure on Aleppo, which has suffered weeks of intense bombing by Russian and Syrian aircraft.

SAMS representative Adham Sahloul told MEE that the "cave hospital" was treating patients who were suffering from breathing difficulties in a chlorine attack when it was itself bombed.

US kills veteran al-Qaeda leader in Syria drone strike
[MIDDLEEASTEYE.NET] A veteran member of al-Qaeda attached to the recently disaffiliated Syrian arm of the Death Eater group was killed on Monday by a US drone strike near Idlib.

The Death Eater organization and the Pentagon confirmed Ahmed Salameh Mabrouk's death.

Mabrouk, an Egyptian Death Eater, came to fame after appearing next to Abu Mohammed al-Golani, who leads Jabhat Fateh al-Sham
...formerly al-Nusra, the current false nose and mustache of al-Qaeda in the Levant...
, in a video released in August announcing the group's plans to disaffiliate from al-Qaeda.

Killed near Jisr al-Shughour in Idlib province, Mabrouk, also known as Abu Faraj, had longstanding connections to al-Qaeda's leadership.

Despite the group's claims of a split from al-Qaeda, numerous analysts told Middle East Eye this year that al-Golani's video appearance with Abu Faraj, who is known to have longstanding relations with its leader, Ayman al-Zawahari, was significant.

As a confidante of the al-Qaeda leader since the 1990s, Abu Faraj had operated on behalf of al-Qaeda in Egypt, Pakistain, Afghanistan, Yemen, Sudan, Russia and Azerbaijan, according to analysts at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, an American think-tank known for hawkish views on Iran.

According to academic and longtime Syria commentator Charles Lister, one of Abu Faraj's laptops was once siezed by the CIA in Azerbaijan. The ceased laptops were described by CIA operatives at the time as the "Rosetta Stone of al-Qaeda."

In April, Abu Faraj was the target of an earlier drone strike in which Egyptian national Rifai Taha was killed. The pair were attending a meeting with al-Qaeda figures in Syria.

Rebranding itself as Fateh al-Sham, the former al-Qaeda affiliate has played a prominent role in the recent attempt by rebel groups to break the siege around Aleppo.

The group eulogised Abu Faraj.

"Ahmed Salama, known as Abu Faraj the Egyptian and a member of the shura (consultative council) of Fateh al-Sham Front, was martyred after a coalition air strike in the west of Idlib province," tFateh al-Sham said in a statement on the Telegram app.

A Pentagon front man said on Monday that the United States is aware of the former al-Qaeda affiliate’s name change, but stressed that the group’s Lions of Islam are still viewed as Nusra by Washington.

The group was recently exempted from an attempted ceasefire deal aimed at ending the siege of east Aleppo and facilitating the delivery of humanitarian aid into the besieged rebel-controlled areas.

Rebel groups were originally opposed to the ceasefire deal as it included plans for Russia and the US to collaborate on air strikes against Fateh al-Sham.
An Nahar adds:
Mabrouk was born in 1956 in Egypt's Giza province.

Suicide attack on Kurdish wedding kills at least 22 in northeast Syria
[MIDDLEEASTEYE.NET] A jacket wallah killed at least 22 people on Monday in an attack on a wedding party in the northeastern Syrian province of al-Hasakah, according to independent Kurdish media outlets.

"A suicide bomber went kaboom! inside a hall in Tall Tawil village during the wedding of a member of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF)," Rami Abdel Rahman, head of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, told AFP.

Al-Hasakeh is controlled by the SDF, described by the Economist magazine as "essentially a subsidiary of the Kurdish YPG," who are in turn seen as the Syrian wing of the Turkish-Kurdish PKK.

In 2015, Syrian government forces were forced out of the al-Hasakah by the Islamic State

group, who were in turn forced out by Syrian-Kurdish militias.

Pro-Kurdish news outlets also reported that 47 others were maimed and that the attack took place in north of al-Hasakah, at the Sanabil Hall.

No group has grabbed credit for the attack so far, but suspicion immediately fell on the Islamic State group who have been in involved in frequent festivities with the SDF.

[Iraq News] ISIS leader His Supreme Immensity, Caliph of the Faithful and Galactic Overlord, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi
...formerly merely the head of ISIL and a veteran of the Bagram jailhouse. Looks like a new messiah to bajillions of Moslems, like just another dead-eyed mass murder to the rest of us...
, along with three leaders of the group suffered from severe poisoning after eating a meal on the Iraqi ‐ Syrian border, southwest of the province of Nineveh, according to "Sputnik" website.

Sputnik stated, "We received accurate intelligence information stating that ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi and three big shot of the so-called ISIS Shura Council, suffered from food poisoning, after eating a poisoned meal."

"Baghdadi and the three injured were taken under heavy surveillance to an unknown destination," Sputnik added.

The unrest in the city of djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
, the capital of the Caliphate, forced al-Baghdadi to go out and meet the citizens in Risala district.

Al-Baghdadi was traveling by white SUV, accompanied by three vehicles carrying masked gunnies wearing black clothes.

#1  The rumor doesn't sound reliable. You ever heard about Sputnick or Sputnik ? That's a source ?

A rumor about bad hotdogs ? Probably.

#3  You really need to get out into the world, Hemingway:

Sputnik is an online news and radio broadcast service established by the Russian government-controlled news agency Rossiya Segodnya in 2014. Headquartered in Moscow.

Not as reliable as RT, though. Considering it's happened to IS members before, I'd rate the poisoning as as 'possible'.
