Bangladesh
Rape suspect Rubel rearrested, placed in remand
[Dhaka Tribune] On Tuesday morning, police relocked away
Book 'im, Mahmoud!
the suspect who raped a Garo woman after he beat feet from custody at a Dhaka court on Sunday.

Police said the incident was a result of negligence on the part of the coppers on duty.

Accused Rafsan Hossain alias Rubel claimed the local police threatened him with death if he did not provide a confessional statement and so he fled.

The court placed him on a six-day remand.

On Friday, RAB arrested Rubel, 30, from Dhaka’s Airport railway station on rape charges and on Sunday he beat feet from the judge’s chamber where he was due for his confessional statement.

"Rubel has been accused in nine cases including rape, extortion, possession of drugs and illegal firearms," said RAB-1 Commanding Officer Tuhin Mohammad Masud.

According to the case statement, the victim was raped on October 25 while visiting her betrothed, Ripon Mrong, at a mess in Misritola located in North Badda.

At a press briefing, Dhaka Metropolitan police (DMP) Gulshan zone Deputy Commissioner Mostaque Ahmed said Rubel left the court hiding his handcuffed hand in his trousers pocket.

Soon after, Rubel went to a store where he wrapped his hand with cotton so people could assume his arm was bandaged.

The suspect soon called a relative who sent him Tk1,000 through bKash transfer.

Rubel spent some time at Badda Suvastu Tower area and was later arrested from Suvastu bus stand yesterday.

Several attempts were made to leave the city, but fear stopped Rubel.

On his final attempt to flee Dhaka, he was arrested from the bus stop.

The DC said although they primarily suspected that police negligence was the cause of the easy escape, they were still investigating the matter and departmental action has already been taken.

Meanwhile,
...back at the game, the Babe headed for second base. He almost made it. Then Sheila slapped him....
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Shadbir Yasir Ahsan Chowdhury granted a six-day police remand after OC Nazrul Islam, who is also the investigation officer of the case produced him before the court with ten-day remand plea.

Clayton Mo. approves $75 million in tax breaks for Centene Healthcare HQ
[Post Dispatch] The Clayton Board of Aldermen unanimously approved a tax abatement agreement with Centene Corp. on Tuesday night that paves the way for the fast-growing health insurer to build a huge new office campus for 2,000 additional employees.

An agreement between the Medicaid managed care company and Clayton knocks 40 percent off real property taxes on the new buildings planned along Forsyth Boulevard in downtown Clayton. Half of the personal property taxes are to be abated.

The vote came despite opposition from some residents, who complaints included the hefty tax incentives, the lack of a public vote on the plan, congestion from the project and construction noise while it is built.

Mayor Harold Sanger, while expressing empathy for residents’ concerns, said board members ultimately made the decision they believe is best for the community, including the school district.

Sanger added that some opposition to the proposal was based on misinformation, namely people believing that a tax abatement means the city is taking public funds "and writing a check" to Centene to build.

In all, the agreement is projected to save Centene about $75 million over 20 years, or about $40 million in today’s dollars, on the $772 million project. The company has also won approval for $10 million in Missouri BUILD bonds and has requested some $35 million in state incentives for companies that add enough new workers.

#1  ...Call me cynical ("You're cynical!") but I'd be curious to know exactly what kind of gratitude is being shown to the Board of Aldermen to get a 40% property tax break.

Wish every state had a law that says ANYTHING past about 15% needs to be approved at the state level, because they're the ones who will have to bail these places out when it unexpectedly goes south....

#2  A $772 MILLION project will generate a lot more than the 2000 jobs in the company.

Huge sales tax and income source for the state and locals from the building materials and labor costs of the project...

The $75 million in tax savings to the company are a spit in the ocean to the multiplier effect of the income and material purchase cash flow from the construction.

Boeing moving 500 jobs from California to St. Louis County
[Post Dispatch] Boeing Co. is moving 500 jobs to its north St. Louis County campus from California.

The jobs moving to St. Louis County from Huntington Beach, Calif., are part of a consolidation of the company’s Defense, Space & Security business headquartered in St. Louis, spokeswoman Sarah Reed told the Post-Dispatch.

"We will be bringing 500 positions to St. Louis," Reed said, adding the jobs are support positions, not production jobs. Chicago-based Boeing currently employs 14,500 people in the St. Louis area.

Additionally, Boeing announced Tuesday that it’s closing its El Paso, Texas, and Newington, Va., sites.

"In order to push ourselves farther and win more business, we need to make the most of our resources and talent," Leanne Caret, president and CEO, Defense, Space & Security, said in a statement. "These steps will help us be a stronger partner for our customers worldwide."

The consolidation is part of an effort to enhance efficiency and promote greater collaboration, the company said, adding that new facilities will not be added in the St. Louis area for the added jobs. "We won’t be adding any infrastructure at this point," Reed said.

The jobs are professional-level positions ranging from engineering to finance, said Reed.

About 1,600 jobs will be moved from Huntington Beach, mainly to other California locations. Huntington Beach hosts a design and research center working with small satellite technology, advanced space access, networked systems, cybersecurity, unmanned underwater vehicles, and advanced manufacturing.

Boeing has moved several hundred jobs to St. Louis over the past three years, in fields such as information technology, research and development and support for the F-22 Raptor fighter. But overall Boeing employment in the metro area has hovered in the 14,500 to 15,000 range.

Boeing plans to hire 700 people by 2023 to make wing and tail parts for its 777X airline at a newly built plant at its sprawling complex in north St. Louis County.

Thousands of other St. Louis production jobs face an uncertain future over the long term as Boeing seeks enough orders to keep its F/A-18 and F-15 fighter lines far into the next decade. The company has enough F/A-18 orders to operate until 2020 and enough F-15 orders to last until early in the next decade.

Boeing is bidding to build the next Air Force trainer, and a win would likely extend employment in St. Louis. The first prototype of the trainer was built in North County.

The Grand Turk
Hundreds Return to Southeast Turkish City after 8-Month Curfew
[AnNahar] Hundreds of people, including children, returned to the devastated Kurdish-dominated city of Sirnak in southeast The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
on Monday after an eight-month curfew was relaxed, an AFP photographer said.

Since March, Sirnak has been under curfew between 5am (0200 GMT) and 10pm (1900 GMT) as the Turkish military pursued a relentless campaign against Kurdish rebels.

The curfew has now been shortened to seven hours and will remain in place from 10pm to 5am.

There was renewed fighting in the Kurdish-majority southeast after a two-and-a-half-year ceasefire with the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) collapsed last year.

The PKK has been waging an insurgency since 1984.

As residents returned to their damaged homes in the city center, the majority found their houses uninhabitable following clean-up operations to rid the rebels from the area, the photographer said.

Some of the returnees, who came from other parts of Sirnak and Mardin province, were forced to cook outdoors because the city has no electricity or water, the photographer said.

Schools and mosques were also damaged during the fighting, sparking tears and anger among the locals.

"These were our homes, these were where our memories were, this was where our furniture was," one resident wailed.

"Now we are left alone, what will happen to us?" the resident said.

Many will be forced to live with family or friends while their homes are rebuilt and damaged homes are demolished.

A crisis center has been set up in the city to help those affected, local media reported.

Three schools had to be demolished while five were damaged, Dogan news agency reported, adding that some had reopened.

The Sirnak governor's office meanwhile asked residents to immediately report any suspicious package, cable or device to the security forces, Dogan said.

The curfew was imposed from March 14 as part of an operation to remove barricades and explosives planted by Kurdish rebels and to restore public order, the state-run Anadolu news agency reported.

Ankara has vowed to wipe out the PKK, classed as a terrorist organization by Turkey and its Western allies, and has conducted several military operations against the group.

According to Anadolu, over 7,000 PKK turbans have been killed since July last year and more than 600 Turkish security forces killed during festivities and attacks by the PKK. Since 1984, more than 40,000 have bit the dust in the insurgency.

It is not possible to independently verify the toll.

Frank Gaffney, a Reagan admin vet possible in Trump's Transition Team
[WSJ] WASHINGTON--Another round of staff changes buffeted President-elect Donald Trump’s transition team Tuesday amid resistance from within the Republican Party over a top choice for secretary of state.

Vice President-elect Mike Pence formally signed documents that put him in charge of the transition team, and officials insisted the 10-week effort to build an administration is on schedule. In one of his first moves, Mr. Pence ordered the removal of all lobbyists from the transition team, said one transition team member with knowledge of the decisions.

Earlier Tuesday, former Michigan Rep. Mike Rogers, once considered a candidate to lead the Central Intelligence Agency, was ousted from the Trump transition team’s national security unit. Matthew Freedman, who was leading the group’s planning for the White House National Security Council, also departed. Mr. Freedman didn’t return messages seeking comment.

Mr. Rogers was told he was being replaced because everyone who was brought in by New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, the transition team’s original chairman, was being ousted, according to a person familiar with the conversation. Frank Gaffney, a Reagan administration veteran, was brought in to assist on national security issues, as has GOP U.S. Reps. Pete Hoekstra and Devin Nunes.

Trump team mulling Cruz for AG: report
[The Hill] President-elect Donald Trump’s transition team is considering making Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) the next attorney general, according to a new report.

Cruz discussed a possible role in Trump’s upcoming administration at a meeting in Trump Tower in New York City Tuesday, a person familiar with the matter told Bloomberg Politics.

CNN's Jim Acosta reported that a source told him Cruz was on a "long short list" of potential attorney general picks.

Cruz visited Trump to offer assistance during the president-elect's transition talks, a transition aide told NBC News earlier in the day, adding that the Texas senator is not being considered for a Cabinet post.

A spokeswoman said after Cruz’s stop he was "pleased to have the opportunity to meet with President-elect Trump in New York."

"The American people issued a clear mandate to ’drain the swamp’ in Washington, repeal ObamaCare and start over with cost-effective, patient-centered healthcare reform, appoint constitutionalist judges to the Supreme Court, secure our southern border and enforce immigration laws, and enact policies that will create more good-paying jobs for the American people," Catherine Frazier said in a statement.

#9  Soros was only 9 or 10 yrs old at the time he was an 'agent' of the nazis

Sorry, Garth - per the video, Budapest wasn't occupied by the Nazis and deportations started until 1944. At the time Soros was 14...an age when a hell of a lot of others were heading to the forests to join partisan groups fighting the Nazis.

yes it was a bad thing he did then but it doesn't merit being deported

He's a Nazi collaborator. Ann Coulter has said as much, repeatedly and publicly. The fact that he hasn't tried to sue her into oblivion means that he knows damn well he'd lose a slander case in front of a jury. And if being a Nazi collaborator doesn't rate having his ass kicked out of the country...how about being a convicted international financial criminal (French conviction for insider trading)? That being said...rather than deporting this treasonous pond scum, I'd rather see him tried for whatever crimes can be pinned on him - how about campaign finance violations, treason and inciting riots for starters - then stripped of his fortune and sent to a Federal Supermax for the rest of his unnatural life.

The state prosecutor said few days ago, the local police had received information about presence of a proclaimed offender, Atlas Khan, who was required to the police in a murder case. He however said the applicant instead of cooperating with the police started firing gunshots along with some of his accomplices at the police party.

The prosecutor added that fortunately, the police officials had remained unharmed, whereas the applicant had managed to escape from the scene of occurrence.

He added that the applicant was charged under different sections of the Pakistain Penal Code and Anti-Terrorism Act.

Dupe entry: Univision To Lay Off 200 Employees
Too bad Jorge Ramos isn't leading the charge out the door.
The Spanish-language media giant Univision Communications will lay off almost 6 percent of its workforce -- between 200 and 250 people -- after it slipped into the red last quarter, the company announced Wednesday.

The layoffs, along with a planned restructuring, "are in response to difficult times, challenging times," Isaac Lee, Univision’s digital, entertainment and news chief, told The Washington Post in his first public comments on the moves. "We need to position ourselves for the future."

Univision had a third-quarter net loss of $30.5 million, on total revenues of $735 million, down 8 percent.

NYU Brings Back ‘Deplorable Professor', Awards Him a Raise
Liberal studies professor Michael Rectenwald, the man behind the controversial @DeplorableNYUProf account, has been promoted by prestigious New York University and given a raise days after the University had put him on a paid leave for criticizing politically correct culture on campus.

Michael Rectenwald was promoted from clinical professor to full time professor on Monday, a source said to the NY Post.

In the initial interview with Heat Street on October 26, Rectenwald was outspoken against the current on-campus culture of social justice warriors and safe spaces. He likened academia to a mad house and claimed that "safe spaces" is an existential error.
