US warns its citizens against travel to Kenya
The US on Friday warned its citizens within Kenya to avoid traveling to the Somalia border following claims of threats by terrorist group al-Shabaab.

In an advisory signed on January 13, 2017, the department warned its citizens to be on hight alert over potential attacks and high risk of crime throughout the country. The advisory cited Mandera, Wajir and Garissa as well as Tana River and Lamu among those that US citizens should avoid.

“This replaces the travel warning dated June 30, 2016,” the advisory said.

“Avoid traveling to all areas of Malindi in Kilifi county and the Nairobi neighborhood of Eastleigh,” the US said in its warning.

In Mombasa, the US Embassy recommended its citizens to visit Old Town only at daylight hours and avoid using the Likoni Ferry due to safety concerns.

“Violent and sometimes fatal crimes, including armed carjackings, muggings, home invasions and burglaries and kidnappings can occur at anytime,” read part of the notice.

Barghathi promotes Bunyan Marsous forces spokesperson to defence ministry post
[Libya Herald] The Government of National Accord’s defence minister, Colonel Mahdi al-Barghathi, has appointed Colonel Mohammed al-Ghasri, the spokesperson of the Bunyan Marsous
...(al-Bunyan al-Marsous, Solid Base) An operation carried out by Misratan forces loyal to the Libyan Goverenment of National Accord to dislodge ISIS forces from Sirte. 2,500 turbans were reported killed in the operation, which lasted from May through December.GNA's Prime Minister Fayez al-Sarraj officially announced the end of military operations on 18 December 2016...
Operations Room, as front man for his ministry.

In his first statement, just a few hours following the promotion, Ghasri told a Libyan TV channel based in Istanbul and close to Moslem Brüderbund that the GNA would appoint a a chief-of-staff for the Libyan army within the next few days.

The objective was to to unite the east and west of Libya under one military authority, he explained.

"We are calling for all the Libyan army factions to unite under one general leader. His name will be announced in the next few days," he said.

A fortnight ago, Presidency Council deputy Fathi Majbri in his capacity as acting head of the PC unilaterally appointed Salem Juha as chief-of-staff. It was one of several controversial appointments made by Majbri while Faiez Serraj was away at a family wedding, and they triggered the resignation of Musa Koni from the PC.

Serraj reversed them on his return but has been unable to persuade Koni to rejoin.

As far as the House of Representatives in concerned, however, Major-General Abdul Razzak al-Nazhouri is chief-of-staff although it appointed Khalifa Hafter over him as general commander of the Libyan armed forces and subsequently a field marshal.

Beida government accuses Italy of violating Libyan sovereignty
[Libya Herald] In a sign of its growing annoyance with Italia over its cooperation with the Presidency Council and the Government of National Accord (GNA), the rival interim government in Beida this week accused the Italian navy of illegally entering Libya’s territorial waters. It claimed Italia was violating Libyan illusory sovereignty.

"An Italian military vessel loaded with soldiers and ammunition has entered Libyan territorial waters," said a note sent by the government in Beida to Libyan embassies abroad.

"It is a clear violation of the UN charter and a form of repeated aggression."

The vessel concerned is the San Giorgio, an Italian navy amphibious warship which is currently operating with the EU’s Operation Sophia against human trafficking in the Mediterranean from Libya.

Last October, 78 Libyan coastguard trainees joined the San Giorgio and the Dutch vessel Rotterdam to begin their instruction.

Italia has yet to comment on naval deployments, but the GNA in Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
confirmed that Italian ship had permission.

Spokesman for the Libyan navy Captain Ayub Gassem dismissed the allegations, saying that the ship in Libyan waters was involved in training.

Haftar makes way for Saudi extremist clerics to preach in eastern Libya
[Libya Observer] A letter written by the Administration of the General Authority of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs in eastern government of al-Thanni unveiled how it had given permission for a Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
n sheikh, who is of Paleostinian descent, Osama Ataya al-Etibi, to proselytize and give religious preaching, seminars, and lectures in the areas he desired in coordination with the districts’ Awqaf and Islamic Affairs offices.

The Saudi holy man, al-Etibi, is one of the well-known advocators of the so-called Madkhalism ‐ a Salafist movement based on the writings of Rabee al-Madkhali ‐ and he had been involved in Afghanistan fighting.

"The Saudi holy man is being hosted by the self-styled General Command of Dignity Operation." The letter says, which has created questions among many Libyans as to the nature of hosting a radical religious holy man by a military leadership, especially that the holy man’s religious convictions are very distant from the Libyan society, thus raising skepticism high as regards the loyalty and independence of Haftar’s military.

Meanwhile,
...back at the laboratory the smoke and fumes had dispersed, to reveal an ominous sight...
several residents from eastern Libyan cities like al-Bayda have time and time again expressed discomfort of the fact that the General Authority of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs has been altered from a state institution, which should control mosques’ affairs and religious preaching, into an entity that advocates for an Lion of Islam religious ideology and allows the bandidos bully boyz to tighten a grip on it.

A big number of Madkhali followers are now fighting alongside Haftar’s forces based on fatwas issued by their sheikhs in Saudi Arabia, and al-Etibi, who is hosted by Haftar, is an example.

Despite the fact that those fighters, who are loyal to Madkhalism, are civilians, they have formed a number of brigades and are now fighting along with Haftar’s Dignity Operation, such as the infamous Tawheed brigade. Some of this brigade’s leaders are accused of abduction, torture, and killing in the eastern Garnada prison.

Don’t link Boko Haram with Islam, Ex-GrandKhadi advises Nigerians
Yeah, yeah, yadda yadda, whatever..
[VANGUARDNGR] A former GrandKhadi of the Kwara Sharia Court of Appeal, retired Justice Salihu Olountoyin-Mohammed, on Friday, urged the people not to link Boko Haram insurgency with lslam.
"No, no! Certainly not!"
The Jurist made the clarification in llorin during an interview.
It's... ummm... something else.
According to him, lslam as a religion that makes peace its cornerstone, adding that perpetrators of negative acts such as Boko Haram insurgents are not Muslims.
We've seen that, time and again. They're none of them Moslems, despite the turbans.
Salihu-Olountoyin, however, advised Muslims to always allow peace, unity, love, and goodness to fellow human being their guiding principle, regardless of religious or tribe or other inclinations.
"Oh, yasss. Of course. Tut tut, my good man!"
“The activities of Boko Haram insurgency are purely anti-Islam and unconstitutional, they are not part of lslamic law”, the ex-Grandkhadi said.
"...despite the number of muftis and other holy men they got running around."
He further advised Muslims to shun destructive tendencies, stating that no meaningful development could take place in an atmosphere of rancour, acrimony and hatred.
"It sez so in the Koran someplace. You could look it up. Ignore the parts about smiting the infidels."
The Jurist, however, advised Nigerians to be conscious of their security by reporting negative activities or suspicious movement in their domains to security operatives. Salihu-Olountoyin called on residents in the rural communities not to harbour unknown persons in their areas as part of measures to curb insurgency in the country to the barest minimum.

Questions raised in Cameroon over use of witchcraft to fight militants
[IBTIMES.CO.UK] After Cameroon
...a long, narrow country that fills the space between Nigeria and Chad on the northeast, CAR to the southeast. Prior to incursions by Boko Haram nothing ever happened there...
ian President Paul Biya urged citizens a year ago to use witchcraft to fight Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
, people have been earnestly following his orders despite the fact that performing black magic is illegal in the country. However,
if you can't say something nice about a person some juicy gossip will go well...
questions have been raised over the move and its effectiveness.
Let us know how that worked out for you, okay?
The president's call was seen as a desperate measure as Cameroon, along with other West African regions like Nigeria, the Niger delta and the Chad Basin that are infested by Boko Haram, continues its fight against the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(Isis)-linked krazed killer group, known for kidnappings and killings.

Cameroon government data reportedly showed that more than 1,500 people have died in the past two years in the fight against Boko Haram and 155,000 people have been displaced.

While many practising wizardry in the country claim that their use of curses and spells against Boko Haram in Cameroon has been effective in thwarting attacks, a government official said they could not confirm such claims.

Political experts, on the other hand, said asking people to resort to black magic to fight terrorism shows the government was not confident of its own military, Pri.org reported.

Henriette Ekwe, a Cameroonian political analyst and good government advocate, was quoted as saying: "When one comes to advocate the practice of witchcraft, it is because one is not sure of one's army.

"It is not up to a head of state to advocate practices of black magic in a theatre of operations where it is the weapons that must inflict defeat on Boko Haram, not magicians or sorcerers. This is very serious for the morale of the troops.

Europe
Top Bishop: Europe Will Soon Be Muslim Because of Our Stupidity
Monsignor Carlo Liberati, Archbishop Emeritus of Pompeii, said that Islam will soon become Europe’s main religion thanks to the huge number of Muslim migrants alongside the increasing secularism of native Europeans.

Speaking to Italian Catholic journal La Fede Quotidiana, the archbishop said: “In 10 years we will all be Muslims because of our stupidity. Italy and Europe live in a pagan and atheist way, they make laws that go against God and they have traditions that are proper of paganism.

“All of this moral and religious decadence favours Islam.”

Everyone in Italy and the rest of Europe will “soon be Muslim” because of the country’s “stupidity”, a prominent Italian archbishop has said.
“We have a weak Christian faith,” he added. “The Church nowadays does not work well and seminaries are empty.

“Parishes are the only thing still standing. We need a true Christian life. All this paves the way to Islam. In addition to this, they have children and we do not. We are in full decline.”

The archbishop added that the problem is not just Muslim immigration. The number of Eastern Europeans arriving over the past few years has also hit the quality of life for native Italians, he said.

“We help without delay those coming from outside and we forget many poor and old Italians who are eating from the trash,” the archbishop said. “We need policies that take care of Italians first: our young people and the unemployed.

“I am a protester. If I were not a priest, I’d be out there demonstrating in the squares. What is the point of so many migrants that instead of thanking for the food we give them, they just throw it, spend hours with their cell phones and even organise riots?”

He even criticised the Catholic Church for giving money to migrants.

“Giving money to migrants wandering around town is not only wrong, but morally harmful because we encourage their behaviour and they get used to that, not mentioning the fact that we already feed them.

“I think sometimes this creates a beggars’ network. I remember that my father went to work very hard as a migrant in Australia so I could go to seminary. So he has experienced in his own skin the discomfort of poverty and the noble virtue of gratitude.”

of Iraq and the Levant (ISIS) bully boy who attacked a famous nightclub at the heart of Istanbul escaped with his son after the attack, according to police sources.

"Ebu Muhammed Horasani," the code name of Uzbek ISIS bully boy Abdulgadir Masharipov,
...finally the gentleman's name is revealed...
who is accused of killing a total of 39 people and wounding 65 others at the Reina nightclub in Ortaköy on Jan. 1, went to his home in Istanbul’s Zeytinburnu district after the attack and took his son before escaping, the sources said.

Police raided a house in Istanbul’s Maltepe district and detained Masharipov’s wife, whose identity has been kept hidden. Previous reports stated that his wife and his family members were tossed into the calaboose by police after the attack.

"I learned about the attack from TV. I didn’t know that my husband was an ISIS bully boy, let alone a sympathizer," media reports had quoted his wife as saying.

According to newly obtained information, Masharipov’s wife was detained in Maltepe late on Jan. 11, while his 1.5-year-old daughter was taken under protection. Police said Masharipov arrived in the Central Anatolian province of Konya with his two children at the beginning of 2016.

The ISIS bully boy rented a house in Istanbul’s Basaksehir toward the end of December 2016 with his family, according to investigations. The bully boy said goodbye to his wife late on Dec. 31, 2016, and left the house.

After staging the attack on the nightclub, the bully boy went to a house in Zeytinburnu, where his wife and children were brought to. Masharipov then took his 4-year-old son and went missing.

"We said goodbye to each other and he left the house," Masharipov’s wife told the anti-terror police during her interrogation. The police are trying to locate the people who possibly helped the ISIS bully boy and ISIS cells in Istanbul in light of the information given by Masharipov’s wife.

Previous reports have said that after attacking Reina, Masharipov went to Zeytinburnu with a taxi and asked workers at a local Uighur restaurant to give money to the driver. Uighurs were among those detained after the attack, while the owner of the restaurant, identified as Semsettin Dursun, has denied any connection to the attack.

Constitutional changes to galvanize Turkey: President Erdoğan
[Hurriyet Daily News] Once adopted, the sweeping constitutional changes now facing parliament will serve to re-energize The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan
... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him...
said on Jan. 14.

"Entry into force of the constitutional changes debated by parliament will have a galvanizing effect on our country," Recep Tayyip Erdogan said in Istanbul, at the opening of a new building for Borsa Istanbul, the nation's stock exchange.

"No one can stand in front of the new Turkey's rise and building itself up," he added.

Erdogan stressed that the final decision on the proposed changes, including a shift to an executive presidential system, would be made by the Turkish people in a referendum following the required passage by parliament.

"The nation's will is very important for that. Right now there is an understanding [in parliament] which cannot tolerate the national will and also cannot tolerate it [the changes] going to a referendum."

Erdogan also spoke about changes to the way foreigners could gain Turkish citizenship. "People who enter Turkey with $2 million in investment or bring $2 million [to Turkey] can gain Turkish citizenship," he said.

These changes amount to a "new understanding" of "global citizenship," the president suggested.

Turkey Suspends Pro-Kurdish Lawmaker for 'Genocide' Comment
Any excuse will do when Kurdish Untermenschen are involved.
[AnNahar] A pro-Kurdish politician has been temporarily suspended from the Turkish parliament for saying the word "genocide" during heated discussions on changes to the constitution, state media said on Friday.

Member of parliament for the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) Garo Paylan said four communities had been lost and "driven from these lands in large massacres (and) genocides," referring to Armenians, Assyrians, Greeks and Jews, according to Anadolu Agency.

Videos showed politicians from the pro-government Justice and Development Party (AKP) angrily interrupting Paylan's speech.

He has been banned from attending three sessions in the parliament, which is currently voting on provisions in a controversial bill to change the constitution and increase presidential powers under Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan
... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him...
Paylan made the comments during a speech in which he criticised the draft constitution for giving one man extensive executive powers.

The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
vehemently denies a genocide against Armenians took place. AKP politician Naci Bostan slammed Paylan's comments as "provocative" and "unfair", Anadolu said.

But Armenians, backed by many historians, a growing number of foreign parliaments and the European parliament, say up to 1.5 million of their kin were systematically killed in the dying days of the Ottoman Empire.

Turkey admits large-scale massacres took place, but says they were perpetrated in self-defence against what it describes as a Russian-inspired uprising by Armenians. It says 500,000 Armenians died in fighting and of starvation.

Paylan's comments came after a vicious fight broke out in parliament on Thursday as politicians voted on parts of the 18-article constitution bill which -- if passed -- will be put to a referendum at the end of March or early April.

Turkey arrests soldiers for 'helping terror group'
Turkey has arrested five soldiers in connection with a deadly suicide attack on the military claimed by a Kurdish radical group in the central city of Kayseri, state media said Friday.

A bus - carrying low-ranking privates and non-commissioned officers - was attacked after leaving the commando headquarters in the city to take the off-duty soldiers on a shopping trip on December 17. Fourteen soldiers died in the explosion and dozens were wounded.

The soldiers, who were based at the same headquarters, are accused of "helping a terrorist organisation" and "leaking military information", including the time the bus would leave, state-run Anadolu Agency said.

The attack in Kayseri, an industrial hub in the heartland of Anatolia, was one of many in Turkey in a bloody 2016.

A "revenge squad" from the Kurdistan Freedom Falcons (TAK), seen as a radical offshoot of the outlawed PKK, targeted the off-duty conscripts and "successfully carried out the attack", the group said in a statement published by the pro-PKK Firat news agency.

The shadowy organisation is seen by some analysts as more extreme than the PKK although the Turkish government says it is merely a front for the better-known group. The TAK has claimed a string of bombings in Turkey over the last year, including a December double bombing near the Besiktas football stadium that left 46 people dead.

Turkish border security measures includes 330 km of walls
Turkey last year erected 330 kilometers (205 miles) of walls along its borders with Syria and Iraq to fight illegal crossings, the Turkish military said on Jan. 14.
Silly Turks -- everyone knows walls don't work. Our elite betters have repeatedly lectured us on that...
According to a Turkish General Staff press statement on border incidents in 2016, Turkey also put up 191 kilometers (119 miles) of reinforced fences along those borders to boost physical security.

The statement said that nearly 425,000 people from 74 different countries trying to illegally cross Turkey’s borders were captured in 2016, adding that over 390,000 of them were from war-torn Syria. The statement added that foreign fighters from 68 different countries tried to cross the border to join the Daesh terrorist organization from August to December 2016, but that this number was seven times less than in the same period in 2015.

Turkey hosts some 3 million Syrian refugees, more than any other country in the world. The country has spent around $25 billion helping and sheltering refugees since the beginning of the Syrian civil war.

Conditions on security assistance to Pakistan failed to yield results: Mattis
[DAWN] US defence secretary-designate James Mattis has warned that putting conditions on US security assistance to Pakistain has not always produced the desired results.

"Conditioning our security assistance has a mixed history in the case of Pakistain, but I will review all options if I am confirmed," Mr Mattis said at his confirmation hearing. "In particular, we should be aware of any behaviour that supports Pakistain-based murderous Moslem groups," he added.

This was a veiled reference to the argument, often made in the US capital, that sanctioning Pakistain has had negative effects. In the 1990s the United States slapped sweeping sanctions on Pakistain to prevent it from testing nuclear weapons.

Those who oppose sanctioning Pakistain point out that it did not prevent the country from going nuclear, mainly in response to similar tests by India, and reduced US engagement with the country allowed terrorism to flourish.

Mr Mattis, who appeared before the Senate panels on Thursday and Friday to explain the policies he would follow as the defence secretary, said he would consult the Senate Armed Services Committee before making any decision on attaching conditions to US security assistance to Pakistain.

Mr Mattis said he would work to build bridges with Pakistain and to restore the trust that has eroded in recent years. But, at the same time, he would also urge Islamabad to "neutralise" murderous Moslem groups that allegedly operate within its borders.

CM says centre’s reservation over seminaries ban will be removed
[DAWN] KARACHI: Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has said the provincial government will address the reservations expressed by the Ministry of Interior over Sindh’s request to ban 94 seminaries under the anti-terrorism law.

"We’ll remove the reservations expressed by the MoI by giving complete information regarding the seminaries to recommend the federal government to enlist them in the first schedule," said Mr Shah while speaking to news hounds during his visit to the rain-hit parts of the city on Saturday.

Mr Shah was commenting on the media reports that the MoI had rejected the Sindh government request for imposing a ban on 94 religious seminaries in Sindh as well as in other provinces and Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata) on the grounds of incomplete information and insufficient evidence against those madressahs.

However,
a hangover is the wrath of grapes...
he added, his office had not yet received the reply of the MoI. "The reply has not yet reached me. Let the reply lands my office, we would address all the reservations raised by the federal government," he said, adding that his government’s recommendations were made on the basis of the reports of intelligence agencies.

In reply to a letter of the Sindh government, the interior ministry said action could not be taken against the seminaries due to ’lack of information and evidence’ against them. Besides, it was said, a number of those seminaries did not fall in of the jurisdiction of Sindh.

Nisar stands his ground over ‘banned groups’ controversy
Astounding, even for Pakistain.
[DAWN] Defending remarks he made in the Senate earlier this week, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan
...Currently the Interior Minister of Pakistain. He is the senior leader of the Pak Moslem League (N) and a close aide to Nawaz Uncle Fester Sharif. He is noted for his vocal anti-American railing in the National Assembly. However (comma) Khan told the U.S. ambassador that he was in fact pro-American but he and the PML-N would have to be critical of US actions in order to remain publicly credible. Khan cited his wife and children's US citizenship as proof, which means he's lying to one side or the other and probably both. He wears a wig, but you probably guessed that. since hair doesn't grow naturally in that shape or texture...
reiterated on Saturday that he believed there should be separate laws for organizations that are proscribed on the basis of terrorist links and those banned on a sectarian basis.

The minister had caused uproar in the upper house on Tuesday when he tried to distinguish between the two different types of banned
...the word banned seems to have a different meaning in Pakistain than it does in most other places. Or maybe it simply lacks any meaning at all...
organization
s.

"On one side are clear-cut terrorist organizations; there is no space for them in Pakistain. Their office-bearers or anyone linked to them are either eliminated in encounters, imprisoned or manage to flee across the border. But organizations that are proscribed on sectarian grounds, whose office-bearers have no cases against them, they are still in Pakistain," the minister told news hounds after a public meeting in Kallar Syedan.

"It is unfair to link everything to Maulana Ludhiyanvi," he said, referring to criticism of his meeting with the head of the banned Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat
...which is the false nose and plastic mustache of the murderous banned extremist group Sipah-e-Sahaba Pakistain, whatcha might call the political wing of Lashkar-e-Jhangvi...
(ASWJ).

"Those suggesting that I uttered something sacrilegious by saying terrorist organizations and those organizations that were proscribed on the basis of sectarian differences are different have not examined the record," he said, referring to the list of proscribed organizations compiled by the National Counter Terrorism Authority (Nacta).

"Can Allama Sajid Naqvi be linked to any terrorist organization? Can [Syed Hamid Ali Shah] Moosavi be linked to a terrorist organization? No, they are patriotic Paks. But their organizations have been proscribed on a sectarian basis."

"We will need to make separate laws for these two types of organizations. This is necessary to remove confusions regarding who-is-meeting-whom. I ask which Pakistain Peoples Party (PPP) leader hasn’t met leaders of proscribed organizations in his time?"

When asked about the disappearance of five civil society activists in the past week, he said efforts were being made to recover the missing men and ensure their return to their families.

He said that in Islamabad, a missing persons report had been filed only over Prof Salman Haider’s disappearance, while the other FIRs were filed in Lahore. He said that incidents of disappearances took time to be resolved, adding that he was personally monitoring the issue.

Talking about the military courts, he said that a fast-track mechanism was needed to ensure that condemned hard boyz should meet their deserved end. He said the fate of the military courts would become clear in a few days.

While commenting on the Quetta commission, he said that that matter would be taken up by the apex court on Jan 19, and a report would be submitted there on Jan 18. He said that a detailed report on the achievements of the interior ministry during his stint of ministry would be submitted.

International-UN-NGOs
In long-shot pointless Paris peace bid, France sees nothing to lose
[IsraelTimes] Why is a lame-duck French president hosting a peace summit without Israelis, Paleostinians or the incoming US administration? To send a message.

It sounds far-fetched at best: holding a Mideast peace conference without Israelis, Paleostinians or the incoming US government.

But the French organizers say that’s the whole point. They want Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and US President-elect Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
to see that most of the world wants a two-state solution and is fed up with decades of conflict.

With chances for a Mideast peace deal lower than in years -- perhaps a generation -- French President Francois Hollande
...the Socialist president of La Belle France, an economic bad joke for la Belle France but seemingly a foreign policy realist...
figures there’s nothing to lose.

French diplomats fear that Trump will unleash new tensions in the region by condoning settlements on land claimed by the Paleostinians and potentially moving the US Embassy to contested Jerusalem.

So more than 70 foreign ministers and other top envoys are gathering Sunday in Gay Paree to urge the establishment of a Paleostinian state.

Netanyahu says the conference is "rigged" against Israel and declined an invitation to a special meeting afterward. Paleostinian President the ineffectual Mahmoud Abbas
... a graduate of the prestigious unaccredited Patrice Lumumba University in Moscow with a doctorate in Holocaust Denial...
was initially expected, but his visit to Gay Paree has been postponed.

Even the organizers know it’s symbolic; no one expects a breakthrough. It’s aimed at presenting Trump with a collective international push for peace once he takes office Friday.

For Obama’s outgoing government, Sunday’s meeting marks the bitter, disappointing end of eight years of failed Israeli-Paleostinian diplomacy. Days before leaving office, Secretary of State John F. I was in Vietnam, you know Kerry
Former Senator-for-Life from Massachussetts, self-defined war hero, speaker of French, owner of a lucky hat, conqueror of Cambodia, unsuccessful presidential candidate, and utterly failed Secretary of State...
will headline the Gay Paree event -- yet he’s participating only to ensure that America’s interest in a two-state solution is preserved.

According to a draft statement obtained by The News Agency that Dare Not be Named on Friday, the conference will urge Israel and the Paleostinians "to officially restate their commitment to the two-state solution." It also will affirm that the international community "will not recognize" changes to Israel’s pre-1967 lines without agreement by both sides.

Hollande’s government has been trying for years to revive peace-making, pointing to diplomatic successes like the 2015 Gay Paree climate agreement, its improved relations with Israel over the past decade and hard line against Israeli rivals Iran and Syria.

But with Netanyahu snubbing the conference and Trump’s administration "reserved" about it, according to a French diplomat, Sunday’s gathering looks increasingly like an effort to isolate Israel, not entice it to the negotiating table.

Pro-Israel demonstrators plan a protest Sunday in Gay Paree.

Hollande too is a lame duck, leaving office in May -- and his government has made no plans to follow up Sunday’s conference with enforcement measures or outreach to Trump’s team.

The final declaration may warn Trump against moving the embassy, a move that could be seen as recognizing Jerusalem as Israel’s capital after decades of insisting that the city’s status must be determined by direct negotiations.

The sides haven’t negotiated even indirectly since a failed US peace effort in 2014.

Iraq
Destroyed Mosul bridge won't stop Iraqis from crossing over
Those escaping east to Zuhur district drag suitcases along with strollers and wheelchairs.
The rubble of a bridge blown up by Daesh in Mosul to block advancing Iraqi forces has become a lifeline for civilians as more and more of the northern city breaks loose from the grip of the ultra-hardline militants.

Men and women, children and the elderly scramble down the banks of the Khosr River, a tributary of the Tigris some 30 metres wide and a metre deep which counter-terrorism forces crossed last week in a nighttime raid.

Lumbering over ladders and pipes, civilians crawl onto the span of the bridge, which has collapsed into the murky water, and shimmy up the opposite bank along a dirt path.

Those escaping east to Zuhur district drag suitcases along with strollers and wheelchairs. Those returning west to Muthanna carry sacks of rice, potatoes and onions, cartons of eggs and packs of baby diapers. The journey in either direction is usually several kilometres.

"Now there are people entering and people leaving," Major General Sami Al Aridi told Reuters this week after touring both sides of the river on foot. "The ones who left are returning, and those who are leaving now are coming from neighbourhoods where there are currently clashes."

He said he expected the latest evacuees to return in a day or two as Iraqi forces pushed further west. The UN had warned that the US backed campaign to kick Daesh out of Mosul, their largest urban stronghold in Iraq or Syria, could displace up to 1.5 million people.

But with much of the eastern half of the city now under government control, most residents have stayed in their homes or moved in temporarily with relatives in other neighbourhoods.

That has complicated the task of the military, which must fight among civilians in built-up areas against an enemy that has targeted non-combatants and hidden among them.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Fatah warns moving US embassy will ‘open gates of hell’
Fatah is the PLO is the Paleostinian Authority... but fig leaves are convenient for those who don't want to have to respond as decency requires.
[IsraelTimes] Spokesman for Abbas’s party says Paleostinian people ’won’t allow’ Trump to relocate embassy to Jerusalem.

The front man for Paleostinian Authority President the ineffectual Mahmoud Abbas
... a graduate of the prestigious unaccredited Patrice Lumumba University in Moscow with a doctorate in Holocaust Denial...
’s Fatah party on Saturday warned that if the Trump administration moves the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, it will "open the gates of hell."
You mean like you've been doing with your little knife intifada? Or your truck attacks now being met by concrete barriers? Up until now the Israelis have been polite; go for open war in front of President Trump, and things will get considerably more exciting.
Fatah front man Osama Qawasmeh said Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
’s campaign promise, if implemented, would negate chances for peace and stability in the region, and "the Paleostinian people won’t allow that happen," according to Israel Radio. To move the embassy, he said, would be to "open the gates of hell in the region and in the whole world."

On Friday, Abbas told Le Figaro the Paleostinians might revoke their recognition of Israel: If the embassy transfer takes place, "there would be several options for us, and we would discuss them with Arab countries," Abbas said.
You mean the Arab countries seeking rapprochement with Israel in the hope she will protect them from Iran? The ones who've been neglecting to send you promised funds? Good luck with that.
"Reversing our recognition of the State of Israel is one of them. But we hope that it doesn’t reach that point, and that, on the contrary, we will be able to work with the next American administration," he added.
Mr. Trump invited Settler leaders to his inauguration. I haven't read that he invited any Palestinians. This is suggestive.
Earlier Saturday, Abbas warned that moving the embassy to Jerusalem would "destroy the prospects of any political process, bury the hopes for a two-state solution, and fuel extremism in our region, as well as worldwide."

"In this moment, we extend our hand to President-elect Trump for his cooperation to make peace based on international law," Abbas said in statement after he inaugurated the Paleostinian embassy to the Holy See following an audience with Pope Francis.

The Paleostinians strongly oppose the move, saying it would kill any hopes for negotiating an Israeli-Paleostinian peace agreement and rile the region by undercutting Moslem and Christian claims to the holy city.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Russia ‘invites Trump team’ to Syria talks
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Russia has invited Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
's incoming administration to attend upcoming Syrian peace talks in Kazakhstan, The Washington Post reported Friday, bypassing the B.O. regime which has been notably absent from the process.

The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
, which is co-hosting the talks with Russia, has said Washington would be asked to join the talks being held in the Kazakh capital Astana, likely on January 23. But there has been no confirmation from Moscow, and the current US administration said Friday it had not been asked to take part.

"We have not received any kind of formal invitation to the meeting," said State Department front man Mark Toner.

"But if we do receive an invitation, we will certainly make a recommendation" to Trump's incoming administration to honor it, he said.
How lovely that they won't be distracted from packing up their things by having to forward the message.
The timetable would put the meeting just three days after the Republican president-elect takes office on January 20, succeeding the Democrat Barack Obama
I inhaled. That was the point...
Invitations to the talks have yet to be sent out, and the format of the discussions remains unclear.

But according to The Washington Post, the Russian ambassador to Washington, Sergey Kislyak, extended an invitation to attend the upcoming talks in a December 28 telephone conversation with Trump's incoming national security advisor Michael Flynn. The Post quoted an unidentified official with Trump's transition team as saying that "no decision was made" during the call, adding: "I don't have anything additional on US attendance at this time."

The talks on the future of Syria were announced in late December after a nationwide ceasefire was secured. They are being organized for the first time without the involvement of Washington, which had led all the international discussions to resolve the Syrian crisis in recent years.
No, they are being organized without the involvement of the Obama team, who happen to still be in the nation's capitol. The new government has been making its presence felt in ways clearly not visible to the mavens at the Washington Post, and therefore to their readers.
Though the United States has not been a direct party to this specific initiative, Toner said, "we have been in close contact with both the Russians and the Turks as this has gone forward."
So we see.
"And, we would encourage the incoming administration to continue to pursue those efforts."

Iran, an ally of Syrian Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
The Scourge of Hama...
, is also involved in setting up talks aimed at paving the way to an end of the nearly six-year conflict.

Russia, which is counting on improved relations with the United States under the Trump presidency after strains with Obama, refused Friday to say whether Washington should be invited to Astana.

Russia, a key Assad ally, is "interested in the broadest possible representation of the parties who have a bearing on the prospects of a political settlement in Syria," Kremlin front man Dmitry Peskov said.

The Astana meeting should serve as a preamble to the next round of peace negotiations between the Syrian government and opposition in Geneva on February 8 under the auspices of the United Nations
...boodling on the grand scale...
"Our recommendation would be -- and we've said this before -- that we support any effort aimed at getting political negotiations back up and running in Geneva and aimed at solidifying the cease-fire in Syria," the US State Department front man said.

Hamas, Islamic State resume close cooperation despite pressure from Cairo
Scorpions gotta sting.
[IsraelTimes] Jihadist group’s Egyptian affiliate has opened a propaganda office in Gazoo, sends its maimed fighters to Gazoo’s hospitals, and runs lucrative smuggling tunnels into the Strip.

Cooperation between Gazoo’s Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth", rulers and Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
’s affiliate in Sinai has decreased noticeably in recent weeks, but documents seen by The Times of Israel show the two organizations continue to coordinate and help each other in many key areas.

#3  Look up the history. The lady strikes me as in the mold of Judith, who fed the attacking general on salty cheese and much wine until he fell asleep, then hammered a tent peg through his temple. Not to mention the heretical position of all Islam, decrying the years of pain their prophet suffered thereafter, as if it were not Allah's will that he experience every minute of that pain without surcease. It seems reasonable to assume Allah did not approve of that particular conquest and its outcome, else as the lady said, he would have not allowed her poison to take effect.
