Bangladesh
Petition for ban on 3 Indian TV channels rejected
[Dhaka Tribune] The High Court has rejected a writ petition filed challenging the legality of airing three Indian television channels in Bangladesh.

The bench of Justice Moyeenul Islam Chowdhury and Justice JBM Hassan passed the order on Sunday morning.

The channels are Star Jalsha, Star Plus and Z Bangla.

Lawyer Syeda Shaheen Ara Laily filed the petition in October 2014, looking for a directive from the High Court to stop airing these channels in Bangladesh.

On the other hand, local radical Islamist parties and groups allege that the serials aired in those Indian TV channels are contrary to Islamic values and create chaos in Bangladeshi families.

In 2014, several girls did away with themselves across Bangladesh as their parents refused to buy them "Pakhi" (bird in English) dresses, a special costume used by a popular character in a drama serial named Bojhena She Bojhena on Star Plus. Moreover, on some occasions brawl over watching these channels often turn into violent festivities, according to media reports.

Britain
Britain in Line to Sign Major Trade Deals After Brexit
[Breitbart] Britain could strike free trade deals with South Korea, the U.S. and Brazil within a year of leaving the European Union (EU), according to a new report.

The Trade Prospects Index, launched by former government adviser Matthew Oakley, names the three countries as the most likely to want to sign post-Brexit deals with the UK.

The index urges the government to prioritise talks with countries it identifies as having the biggest potential economic value for the UK, and which are likely to be quick in bringing forward an agreement.

South Korea is the most likely to sign a free trade deal with Britain, followed by America, Brazil, China and then Australia according to the report, which is backed by Heathrow Airport chiefs.

Countries analysed in the Trade Prospects Index were ranked based on enthusiasm to sign a deal with Britain, financial services and the speed at which an agreement could be reached.

Loonies Activists try to stop warplanes leaving UK bound for Saudi Arabia
Two activists have been arrested while apparently trying to disarm warplanes bound for Saudi Arabia. Lancashire police confirmed that two people had been arrested on suspicion of criminal damage following an incident at the site and that officers were investigating.

A statement released on behalf of the Rev Dan Woodhouse and Quaker activist Sam Walton said the pair had entered the BAE Systems site in Warton, Lancashire, on Sunday morning with the intention of disarming planes. The two men said their actions were aimed at preventing a delivery of fighter jets to the Saudi government. They said the delivery was due to take place in the next few weeks.

Woodhouse, a Methodist minister in Leeds, said: “Stopping or even delaying Saudi Arabia having more planes with which to bomb Yemen would save innocent lives and prevent war crimes.”

Walton said: “We did not take these steps lightly but we have no other option.”
Oh no, of course not. Loons never do...
A spokeswoman for BAE Systems said: “The incident is now being investigated by Lancashire police and we are assisting them with their inquiries.”

KGB chief linked to Trump file found dead
[Dhaka Tribune] An ex-KGB chief suspected of helping former MI6 spy Remington Christopher Steele to compile his dossier on Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
may have been murdered by the Kremlin and his death covered up, it has been claimed, reports The Telegraph.

Oleg Erovinkin, a former general in the KGB and its successor the FSB, was found dead in the back of his car in Moscow on December 26.

Erovinkin was a key aide to Igor Sechin, a former deputy prime minister and currently head of Rosneft, a state-owned oil company, whose name repeatedly comes up in the dossier. He has been described as a key liaison between Sechin and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
...Second and fourth President and sixth of the Russian Federation and the first to remain sober. Putin is credited with bringing political stability and re-establishing something like the rule of law, which occasionally results in somebody dropping dead from polonium poisoning. Under Putin, a new group of business magnates controlling significant swathes of Russia's economy has emerged, all of whom have close personal ties to Putin. The old bunch, without close personal ties to Putin, are in jail or in exile or dead...
Steele wrote in an intelligence report he has a source close to Sechin, who had disclosed alleged links between Trump’s supports and Moscow.

Trump Signs Executive Order to Curtail Regulations
h/t Instapundit
President Donald Trump on Monday signed an executive order aimed at slashing federal regulations to help businesses, the latest in a string of presidential directives he has unveiled in his first ten days in office.

The "one in, two out" plan requires federal agencies requesting new regulations to cut two existing regulations. Trump said the order will reduce the regulatory burdens on the private sector, particularly small businesses.

Turkish NATO Soldiers Seek Asylum in Germany
[AnNahar] Several dozen Turkish soldiers assigned to NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. Originally it was a mutual defense pact directed against an expansionist Soviet Union. In later years it evolved into a mechanism for picking the American pocket while criticizing the cut of the American pants...
have sought asylum in Germany, a media report said Saturday, quoting officers who said they fear jail and possibly torture back home.

Around 43,000 people are under arrest in The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
on charges or links to last year's failed military coup against President Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First
... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him...
"About 40 Turkish troops, mostly of high rank and stationed in NATO bases, applied for asylum in Germany," Der Spiegel magazine and the ARD television station said in a joint report.

One officer, who insisted he had no connection to the coup attempt or sympathy for those behind it, was quoted as saying: "If I return to Turkey I risk imprisonment, or perhaps torture."

The report quoted Germany's interior ministry and Office for Moslem colonists Migrants and Refugees as saying the soldiers would be treated no differently as other people who apply for asylum.

Around three million Turkish people live in Germany.

Trump reaffirms US commitment to NATO in conversation with Hollande
US President Donald Trump reaffirmed the commitment of the United States to NATO in a phone talk with his French counterpart Francois Hollande and voiced the desire to enhance US-French security cooperation, Sputnik reported.

"The leaders discussed our military and defense cooperation both bilaterally and through NATO. President Trump reaffirmed the U.S. commitment to NATO and noted the importance of all NATO Allies sharing the burden on defense spending," the statement said on Saturday.

The statement added that in the phone conversation Trump also voiced his desire to strengthen security cooperation, including in the sphere of counterterrorism. According to the statement, the two presidents also appreciated the efforts made by both Washington and Paris to fight against the Islamic State terrorist group, which is outlawed in many countries, including the United States and Russia.

During the presidential race Trump repeatedly said that Washington should decrease the support of other NATO member states and protect only those members of the alliance, who "fulfill their obligations" to the United States.

Home Front: WoT
White House says Trump orders on ‘extreme vetting' still in effect
[Wash Times] Despite confusion at airports and a judicial spanking, the White House said Sunday that President Trump’s "extreme vetting" executive order remains in effect and is working as the administration had hoped, halting almost all travelers from seven majority-Muslim countries with histories of terrorism.

Blasting the media for "hyperventilating," officials said fewer than 200 travelers were subjected to waits as they arrived in the U.S. and tried to clear passport control with valid visas. All of those who were detained have been approved and waved into the country, the administration said.
Still, the political damage was already done as Democrats and even some Republicans said Mr. Trump botched the rollout of the executive order he signed Friday and demanded tweaks.

The Homeland Security Department scrambled to calibrate its policy in the wake of a federal judge’s ruling in New York, which prohibited agents from deporting anyone who arrived on an approved visa. The judge’s ruling applied to people who were already in transit at the time of Friday’s executive order and managed to reach the U.S.

But Mr. Trump’s order remains entirely intact, and its bite will be felt in coming weeks as people from the seven targeted countries are blocked from leaving for the U.S.

CIA papers: China's nuke assistance to Pakistan
[Times of India] Recently declassified CIA files testify to the depth of the Pakistan-China military relationship built over decades and also highlights how Beijing was willing to risk its own nuclear cooperation with US to boost the nuclear ambitions of 'all weather friend' Pakistan.

In the files, the US notes that China did not ask Pakistan to open its nuclear installations to IAEA inspections, after inking a nuclear agreement with the latter. The text of the agreement is pretty anodyne, focusing on non-military nuclear technology, radio-isotopes, medical research and civilian power technology. By this, the US notes, China wanted to develop a nuclear export market in Pakistan in "nonsensitive" areas. This would "reassure" countries like US which were apprehensive about Pakistan's nuclear designs.

By 1983-84, it had become alarmingly clear to the US that the China-Pakistan nuclear cooperation went much deeper. In February 1983, a US congressional committee was informed by the CIA that the US had proof China and Pakistan were talking nuclear weapons manufacture. CIA also stated they knew China had handed over the design of a nuclear bomb tested by China in Lop Nor, which incidentally was its fourth nuclear test and during which, US believed, a "senior Pakistani official" was present.

The US suspected China had handed over enriched uranium to Pakistan as well. Basically it meant that China had not only handed over the design of the bomb to Pakistan, it had also given the necessary material.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Why Tehran's Fire Department Failed to Control Hi-Rise Fire
[IranWire] Morteza Rezaei, former commander of the Tehran Police and a member of the City Council, arrived at the scene of the Plasco fire just a few hours after the 17-floor building had collapsed, killing dozens of firefighters and other victims. A firefighter, who had been clearing the debris when Rezaei arrived, stopped his work and vented his frustration, rage and fatigue, built up since early in the morning, at the city official.

“At this moment we have 141 fire trucks, of which 56 have been retired or broken down,” said that report. “84 of the trucks are in working order.” A member of the City Council also told Iranian media that 365 is the “optimum” number of fire truck Tehran needs to maintain an effective defense against fire.
“What are you looking at?” he shouted at Rezaei. “Give money so we can buy equipment. This one is done for. It was finished several years ago.” The tense muscles in his neck reflected his increasing rage.

“When we need money, why don’t you give it?” he shouted. “Why do we have to send letter after letter?” Rezaei just looked on — bewildered and silent, as if he too was exhausted and had nothing to offer but silence. His silence will surely be remembered by reporters and others on the scene.

#1  I read the Executive Order. It basically said that the JCS and CIA WOULD be included, anytime a meeting would be held that addressed a topic that was relevant to their functions.

So - exclude JCS and CIA from any meetings that would be a waste of their time.

Is that a BAD idea? Not to my way of thinking.

Pentagon starts cost-cutting reviews of F-35, AF-One
U.S. Defense Secretary James Mattis ordered cost-cutting reviews of two major aircraft acquisition programs, the F-35 fighter jet and Boeing Co’s next-generation of the Air Force One presidential plane, according to Pentagon memos released on Jan. 27.

The review of Lockheed Martin Corp’s F-35 program, which U.S. President Donald Trump has derided as being too expensive, would have two parts: one looking at how to cut costs, and the other determining whether Boeing’s F/A-18E/F Super Hornet, with improvements, could be an effective, cheaper alternative, the memo said.

Costs for Lockheed Martin’s F-35 program have escalated to an estimated $379 billion. The program accounted for 20 percent of the company’s total revenue of $46.1 billion last year.

The chances that the review would cause a major change were low, according to a report published by Byron Callan, an analyst at research firm Capital Alpha Partners. Callan said costs could be cut if requirements and the aircraft’s capabilities were also relaxed.

In a statement released on Jan. 27, Lockheed Martin said it stood ready to support Mattis’ review of the program, adding that the cost of the F-35 could go down if the United States and other customers committed to purchasing the planes in larger, multi-year batches.

The review of the Air Force One replacement, which Trump has also called too expensive, would look at the plane’s requirements and systems and identify courses of action to reduce acquisition and sustainment costs.

In December, Trump extracted a promise from Boeing Chief Executive Dennis Muilenburg that the cost of replacing Air Force One would not exceed $4 billion.

“We’re going to get it done for less than that,” Muilenburg told reporters last month, “and we’re committed to working together to make sure that happens.”

On Friday, a Boeing representative said the company has been providing information to the Trump administration for some weeks and was committed to providing equipment to the military as affordably as possible.

White House: Supreme Court choice could be announced Monday
A White House official says President Donald Trump could announce his pick for the Supreme Court as early as Monday.

Trump originally said the announcement would come on Thursday, but the official says the timeframe could be sped up.

Three federal appeals court judges are said to have emerged as leading candidates: Neil Gorsuch, Thomas Hardiman and William Pryor. The official says the president has also been considering Diane Sykes, one of his early favorites for the high court seat.

Word of a possible earlier announcement came as the White House dealt with fallout from Trump's ban on refugees. As a candidate, Trump often used surprise announcements to shift attention away from negative coverage.
Nice spin at the end.

Mickey Kaus expanded on this line of MSM attack by Trump - basically carpet bomb the bastards and overload them on points in which to feign their outrage to the point they're useless.

Trump is playing these assholes like fiddles and they're too fucking stupid or arrogant to figure it out.
